I don't hear enough people talk about the side effects of medication, especially when you're starting a new medication.
Chronically ill people are significantly likelier to experience an increased number of side effects, and considering that we're some of the people that take the most medication this absolutely sucks.
Om this day 7 years ago. This was a FB live vid, a second attept as I slipped and fell in the first. I lost the signall when I went into te cave 🏴
do you have any tips for restless leg syndrome. it seems to get worse when i'm tired or it's close to medication time (i take oxxycodone for chronic pain)
I myself don't have RLS, so I can't give any advice. But if anyone with RLS would like to reply to this post, I'll gladly repost this as a thread. 💙🥄
27th June 1751 saw David Balfour and Alan Breck begin their trek across Scotland.
I wouldn’t normally create a post about a fictional event, as are Balfour and Breck are fictional characters out of the Robert Louis Stevenson book Kidnapped. The book however is set in Scotland just after the Jacobite rebellions, so Outlander fans and those interested in Scottish history might both be interested in it. Events and locations are often true to life in the era, including the Appin Murder, the assassination of Colin Roy Campbell of Glenure on 14th May 1752, and the Hawes Inn, at South Queensferry, still trading today, where it is said to have been staying in room number 13 in 1886 when he came up with the idea of ‘Kidnapped.
Kidnapped was first published in serial form in the magazine Young Folks in 1886.
After the death of his father, young Balfour discovers that his uncle Ebenezer has cheated him out of his inheritance. Subsequently, his uncle has David kidnapped and placed on a ship bound for the Carolinas. Aboard ship, Balfour and Alan Breck, a political rebel, become friends. When the ship is wrecked, they escape across the Highlands, the pair come under suspicion of having committed athe Murder of The Red Fox, (The Appin murder) that they accidentally witnessed. Balfour eventually reclaims his inheritance and also aids Breck’s cause.
The first pic is of Balfour and Beck immortalised in statue at Corstophine Edinburgh, where they parted.

So before posting this, despite having RLS (Restless Legs Syndrome), there is still much for me to learn about it. I'll be crediting any articles, posts, etc. in the comments (please don't hesitate to add on in comments, reblogs, or asks if I missed anything, or if you have any questions. If I'm able to verify them as true, I'll add them onto this and credit you and link your post/account in the comments. Thank you!). Anyway, without further ado...
RLS has no known cause or cure, though there are ways of providing relief for yourself. Some of which include: apply heating or cooling pack, moderate exercise, massage, warm bath, iron supplements, etc.
RLS is a diagnosed neurological disorder that causes feelings and sensations such as aching, burning, itching, cramping, etc., primarily in the legs but can also occasionally occur in the arms, chest, and neck.
This disorder must be diagnosed by a professional, but some signs and symptom/affects include "A strong and often overwhelming urge to move your legs that is often associated with abnormal, unpleasant, or uncomfortable sensations"-1. Along with difficulty sleeping, frustration (this one's a personal addition. It causes very much frustration for me :]), etc.
Bending, stretching, massaging, pacing, etc. are all ways of providing temporary relief-2, as well as what I previously mentioned.
Some other things to note about RLS:
Can happen at any time of the day but is worst at evening and night or during rest or inactivity
SYMPTOMS ARE DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE AFFECTED. NOT EVERYONE WILL HAVE THE SYMPTOMS I LISTED AND NOT EVERYONE WILL FIND RELIEF FROM THE METHODS I INCLUDED
ADDITIONALLY, MANY PEOPLE AFFECTED LIKELY FIND RELIEF OR HAVE SYMPTOMS THAT I DID NOT MENTION SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I MISSED ANY
There is not a test for RLS, so it is diagnosed with a doctor's evaluation
Before trying medicine or supplements to help, please talk to your health care provider
Again, if I missed anything please add on or let me know so I can update this and credit you! Thank you!
OK cover your ears if you haven’t read Kidnapped and are going to, but also there are no spoilers in this so don’t bother.
Years ago I paged through a friend’s copy and it had an introduction (or possibly afterword) which contained, among other things, an identification of an existing tune that would work with the given words of Alan’s song (I don’t think it was claimed that RLS actually intended to reference this tune, just that it would work).
I would love to include this in Kidnapped Weekly but I cannot find which edition it was. I am going through OpenLibrary right now but, like, that’s not everything. If this rings a bell, even if you only vaguely remember what the book looked like, please give me any leads you have!
Restless Leg Syndrome is such a fucking weird disorder to have
Like yes, sometimes for no real reason I get the uncontrollable urge to move my body (no it's not just legs), and it's actually so debilitating I can't sleep at all let alone do things that require me to sit/lay still for extended periods of time
And no one knows why it just does that, but I am prescribed iron supplements for it
Having restless leg syndrome is like sometimes entering a weird fuckin Jigsaw trap when you wanna go to bed:
"Would you like to sleep? Well you're going to have to play a game for me first. You're going to lie on this table and spend the next 20 minutes dancing a full Irish jig, all while being shocked with a mild electrical current, or you will be sentenced to 10,000 years in the pit of eternal insomnia."
This is what I feel like with my restless legs at night. Like a weird tingling/tickle/pins and needles? And then my leg HAS to move. Like I have no control. Like a leg sneeze? Lol
