My Dumb Thoughts on Higurashi- Onikakushi
The first of my Higurashi Reactions I started on Reddit, now with GIFS! These are basically the notes I put down of my thoughts after each chapter.( I'm not sure if long posts like this are seen as okay, so I may break up the later chapters for readability) [also spoilers for Onikakushi, obviously]
Oh, and before I begin, I read the main five in the following voices:
Rena and Keiichi: higher and lower versions of my own voice
Satoko: heavy enunciation
Mion: Peni Parker's Sonic voice
Rika: Cherami Leigh's voice for Sunako in Shiki
any other voice, I'll say when they show up. With that, let's begin!
Well, that was an uncomfortable opening
Ch 1-1
Honestly the fact Keiichi’s mom has no sprite way more unnerving than it should be

Ch 1-2

Ch 1-9

Welcome to the “Keiichi digs himself into a bigger hole” hour. I hope the conclusion of this game is him eventually learning to talk around the truth.

Trollhunters : Rise of The Titans [Rika’s Version!]
AIGHT SO THIS IS WHAT SHOULD’VE FREAKIN’ HAPPENED --
The movie starts a year after Wizards. We see Douxie, Archie, and Nari all settled in Metro City. Douxie managed to get a dinky little apartment and works two jobs. He comes home after a long day to Nari and Archie.
Maybe Nari’s running around chasing after Archie. Maybe the two of them are curled up on the couch and snoozing. Douxie smiles softly, petting Archie’s head and gently brushes Nari’s hair out of her face. Maybe Nari was singing to one of her plants and just beams when Douxie walks through the door. Just Magical Siblings and Their Therapy Cat fluff.
But that night, Douxie wakes up. Something feels very, very wrong. Nari feels it, too.
Cut to the door to their apartment being busted right through, flames quickly consuming the threshold. To Douxie’s horror, it’s the Arcane Order and he immediately goes on the offensive. This is the first display in the movie of Douxie’s strength as a Master Wizard, his proficiency and skill with his magic as he holds his own against Bellroc and Skrael as he did in Wizards. He tells Archie to take Nari and run but neither of them want to leave him behind. Archie instead fights beside Douxie, urging for Nari to escape while she can. Nari’s reluctant because Douxie and Archie have become so precious to her.
When it looks like they’re about to be done in, Archie wills himself to transform into a huge dragon, taking Douxie and Nari into his claws and flying out of there, busting straight out of the apartment. But not before giving Bellroc and Skrael a thrashing with his tail. They manage to give the Order the slip. For now.
Archie quickly loses steam from holding such a form and crashes on the outskirts of the city, transforming back into a cat. Douxie cradles him in his arms. Nari tends to their wounds with her magic, looking forlorn.
Douxie frantically dials a number on his phone.
“Claire? Claire it’s me...” A column of fire erupts in the distance. A shot of Douxie, Archie, and Nari huddled close. “They found us.”
Trollhunters : Rise of the Titans Title Screen
The scene fades in on the new and improved Camelot, where the Lakes are staying. We see Jim spending time with his mother and Walter and it’s lovely. We see a hint of Jim’s trauma when he’s cooking and looks at his reflection in a spatula. He flinches away. He doesn’t want to look at himself. Barbara comforts him, a tender heartfelt moment between them.
Claire then emerges from a shadow portal with grim news : The Arcane Order have found Douxie and Nari.
Jim gathers his friends. Claire shadow portals them all to Douxie, who’s found shelter in a hut Nari made from tree roots. Douxie’s cast a barrier to hide their presence, though it won’t last long.
It’s a really sweet and awesome reunion. Douxie gives Claire and Steve big hugs. Nari bounds up to Toby and holds his hand. Jim, Krel, and Douxie have a “good to see you again, bro” moment between them. Aaarrgh licks his lips at the sight of Archie.
It’s here that Douxie gives the deets on what’s happened. As they begin to figure out a way to keep Nari safe and away from the Order, Nari suddenly says, “No.”
After almost losing Douxie and Archie, her new family, Nari decides enough is enough. She wants to face her corrupted siblings head-on. To not only protect the world, but her newfound friends.
Douxie understandably protests. But Nari, gentle but resolute, tells him she’s made up her mind. No more running.
And so, Douxie acquiesces.
Cue the sequence/fight scene on the train!
Nari realizes what Douxie’s doing when it’s too late. They switch bodies and Douxie’s taken away by the Order.
“Douxie, I’m so sorry...I couldn’t save her,” Claire laments.
Nari, in Douxie’s body, “N-no...No, I am fine. But Douxie...Douxie!”
Everyone’s like, “Oh no” but then oof, they all get arrested.
The police department scene! With Krel and the Blanks busting everyone out.
Now, we find ourselves back on Camelot where Jim’s being attended to by Walter and Barbara after waking up from a nightmare. Bellroc’s words torment him : “Without your Amulet, you are nothing but a frightened! Little!! BOY!!!”
Walter suggests Jim should lay low, let his friends handle things. Jim reaches a real low point here. Claire provides some comfort. Hand in hand, they make their way to the Round Table, where everyone’s licking their wounds.
Blinky explains to them that the Order wants to awaken the Titans and need all three members of the Order to do so. While everyone’s relieved that Nari’s safe, Douxie’s now in the Order’s clutches and they want to figure out a way to save him.
Nari, sad and grim, says that Douxie’s spell will eventually wear off.
“He is, as humans say, buying us time...”
Cut to Douxie (in Nari’s body) with the Order. Douxie doesn’t make a sound, not wanting to give anything away. They try the ritual and when it fails, Bellroc and Skrael quickly suspect foul play. They realize that Nari isn’t Nari and proceed to forcefully, painfully, undo Douxie’s spell.
Douxie wakes up, back in his own body. He’s swarmed by his friends, all overcome with relief that he’s alright, but it’s short-lived. The Order has Nari.
Douxie manages to recall where the Order took him. Before they head out, a downtrodden Jim says he should stay behind, going back to the bed chamber. Claire goes to talk to him, but Douxie stops her.
“Let’s give him some space,” Douxie says gently, though he looks just as concerned for Jim. “In the meantime,” he summons his staff, “we’ll hunt the Order down, put a stop to their schemes, and bring Nari home.”
Everyone heads to the warehouse-train track place (I forgot what it was called rip). Just then, Aja comes flying in, having been contacted by Krel. The Tarron siblings have a sweet, wholesome, long-awaited reunion. Also Staja and Creepslayerz reunited!
Aja cautions Steve about the whole seventh kiss-pregnancy thing and he quickly decides that, yeah no, he’s not quite ready for that. His Alien Queen Muffin (or whatever the heck he called her) is back and that’s all that matters to him. Also wtf Eli’s hot and taller than him now.
There’s a cute moment of Douxie and Aja really meeting for the first time. Aja recognizes him.
“Oh! You were the hand-reading waiter boy!”
Upon hearing she’s a Queen, Douxie’s Medieval chivalry kicks in and he bows at the waist.
“The name’s Hisirdoux, Your Majesty.” After Aja butchers his name, he says “Douxie” will do just fine.
Nomura abruptly reminds them they don’t have time for pleasantries. They get to it. Douxie figures out the sigil and the illusion fades, revealing the Order performing their ritual with a brainwashed Nari. They’re unable to stop it and the Order members teleport away to join with their respective Titans. We see each of the Titans rising.
The Arcadia Gang regroups back on Camelot to form a plan. Jim, discouraged and deeply troubled, is leaning over a rail, head in his hands. Douxie comes up beside him, silent.
Jim eventually asks how things went. When Douxie tells him they failed and the Titans have risen, Jim feels even more powerless and guilt-ridden.
“I’m sorry...I’m sorry, I couldn’t...I can’t do anything. Without the Amulet I’m not the Trollhunter anymore and I’m just...useless--”
Douxie cuts him off, putting a hand on Jim’s shoulder.
“Jim. That’s not true. Do you remember what I told you? That our strength doesn’t come from special trinkets. Our strength...” Douxie finally gets Jim to look at him, “comes from our friends. From each other. All of us together. That includes you.”
“But...without my Amulet how can I do anything--”
Douxie smiles gently. “By being true to yourself, Jim. As we, your friends, are true to you.”
Just then, Claire joins them and asks if Jim’s okay. Jim smiles as Douxie ruffles his hair.
“I will be. Thanks.”
Jim, Claire, and Douxie find everyone arguing at the Round Table. Aja is wanting to evacuate everyone off of Earth, to which Blinky protests. Everyone just keeps going back and forth until Jim yells for them to stop.
Time to divide and conquer, cutting back and forth between each battle with the Titans.
Aja, Krel, Steve, and Eli tackle the Fire Titan.
Blinky, Toby, and Nomura handle the Ice Titan, with Walter and Barbara steering Camelot.
Jim, Claire, Douxie, and Aaarrgh go for the Earth Titan. Douxie’s hoping to get through to Nari and break her free from the Order’s control.
Aja and Krel fight the Fire Titan side by side on their hoverboard. Steve and Eli help civilians off the bridge and keep them safe.
Varvatos Vex in his giant robo mech incoming, along with a handful of Akiridion warships.
The Fire Titan proves to be too powerful and defeats Varvatos’ robot, melting down the Akiridion troops in the process. Aja and Krel are knocked down from their hoverboard. They and Varvatos retreat as the Fire Titan continues to burn a path towards its destination.
Toby and Nomura attempt to zipline their way to the Ice Titan to take down Skrael with Akiridion bombs. When the rope fails, Walter extends his wings to save them, but his wings quickly freeze.
Nomura grabs the bombs and sacrifices herself, bidding a heartwrenching farewell to Toby and her longtime friend, thanking them both. She asks Toby to tell Jim she said goodbye. Ever agile, Nomura scales the Ice Titan and detonates the bombs.
But to everyone’s horror, the Ice Titan only puts itself back together. Walter sinks to his knees. Toby throws down his helmet. Their friend sacrificed herself for nothing.
Aaarrgh is charging after the Earth Titan, Douxie, Jim, and Claire hanging onto his back. Claire shadow portals the three of them onto the Titan’s back. Douxie begins to plead with Nari, even as she constricts him with vines.
Douxie manages to grab her hand. He begins to break the mind-control with his magic, still calling out to Nari as he’s losing the ability to breathe.
Douxie’s voice reaches her and she breaks free. Nari frantically asks where she is, if she hurt him or his friends. Douxie, overcome with relief, just embraces her.
“You’re here with us, Nari...You’re here with us.”
Nari assures them they have a Titan on their side now. They receive communication from the Tarrons, who warn them that the Ice Titan is getting close to Arcadia.
No time to wonder why Skrael’s headed there. Claire makes a massive shadow portal to Arcadia (the field trip scene!), taking Nari’s Titan with them. Nari tries to reason with Skrael, but he’s having none of it.
NARI VS SKRAEL COMMENCE!
The Tarrons and Creepslayerz arrive on scene. Douxie boards Aja’s hoverboard and together they fire lazers and magic at the Ice Titan. Varvatos dashes and slashes his way up the Titan. Claire, Jim, Krel, Steve, and Eli work to rescue the school bus from getting crushed.
Well, it does get crushed but thankfully everyone made it off. Then, Archie comes flying in with his father, Charlemagne. Charlie flies all the students and Coach to safety. Archie joins Douxie in the air, blasting Skrael with fire.
“C’mon and face the music, Skrael!!!” Douxie summons Spellcaster and starts shredding.
Enraged, Skrael releases a devastating burst of magic that knocks Douxie, Aja, and Varvatos away. Nari seizes the opportunity to impale Skrael’s Titan, but not before Nari’s fatally wounded by him in return. Both Titans collapse.
Douxie runs to Nari, desperately calling her name. She’s on the ground, dying. Everyone gathers around, devastated. Douxie holds Nari in his arms. Archie nuzzles Nari’s arm, tears forming in his eyes. Douxie’s already crying.
“No..No, no, Nari, please...” Douxie holds her hand. “Nari, don’t go, please...!”
“It is okay, Douxie...Do not be sad...”
“I’m sorry...I’m sorry, I said I would protect you...” Douxie leans down, almost touching his forehead to hers (it’s Harry and Dobby y’all). His tears fall onto her face. “I said I would protect you...!”
“You did something greater, Douxie...” Nari squeezes his hand. Tears of her own roll down her cheeks. “You gave me a home. And many, many friends....” Douxie sobs harder, holding her close. “You saved me, Douxie...” She’s beginning to fade. She smiles, her eyes closing. “Thank you...Thank...”
Nari fades, wisps of magic and flower petals slipping through Douxie’s fingers. Douxie wails, Archie pressing close. Jim and Claire lay their hands on his shoulders. Claire hugs him.
Krel is then alerted that the Fire Titan is also on the move towards Arcadia.
Everyone reconvenes on Camelot. They all mourn the deaths of Nomura and Nari.
They learn that Bellroc is headed towards Arcadia, the center of the universe, because that’s where the last Heartstone is. If at least one Titan reaches the Heartstone, the world will be wiped clean.
Before they head out, Douxie and the Tarrons present Jim with a brand new Amulet, forged from magic and Akiridion technology. That, and the stone in which Excaliber lodged itself. Douxie encourages Jim to try once more.
Jim steps up on the stone, gazing fondly at his friends around him. They all place their hands on the stone in support. Jim pulls Excaliber from the stone. Everyone cheers for him.
Douxie’s seen texting someone.
FINAL SHOWDOWN IN ARCADIA
Bellroc is seen making their way towards the Heartstone. But what stands between them and the prize is the Guardians of Arcadia.
Charlemagne, Archie, and Walter soar above. Blinky and Aaarrgh lead an army of trolls. More Akiridion fleets arrive, Aja and Krel at the helm. Varvatos has a brand new robo, too.
Bellroc sneers at their defiance and summons an army of their own : hundreds of big rocky lava monsters.
BATTLE OF THE MOST EPIC OF PROPORTIONS IS A GO.
Trolls are punching, Akiridions are blasting, magicians are casting.
JIM SUITS UP WITH HIS NEW ARMOR AND EXCALIBER AND IS LIKE DON’T THINK BECOMIN’ FOR YA BELLROC FOR THE GOOD OF AAAAAAAALL
Douxie conjures up a spell to send that boy flying onto that Fire Titan.
Toby and Aaarrgh slam and hammer their way through fiery goons. Claire and Aja team up to take down the opposition, noting they should get lunch together sometime. Charlemagne tears through the enemies with his claws and wings. Krel and the Creepslayerz flail about and kick tail anyway.
Our heroes all cover one another and play off of each other’s strengths and it’s beautiful.
When Douxie’s about to get smothered by lava fists, there’s a flash of lightening and the monsters vaporize.
Douxie turns to see Zoe with a brigade of hedge wizards. Douxie’s immediately bowled over, smitten.
“About time you showed up...,” Douxie says, in a daze cause wow Zoe’s so pretty.
“Oh, you’ve got a lot of nerve --” Explosions. More lava monsters. Zoe sighs and pats Douxie’s cheek. “Ugh, focus, you big sap!”
The pair are unstoppable together, mowing down the lava monsters in powerful bursts of blue and pink.
DOUXIE’S EYES GO BLUE AND ZOE’S EYES GO PINK EPIC AVATAR STATE RINGS OF MAGIC AS THEY DECIMATE THEIR FOES WITH ROCK MUSIC BLARING YESSSS
And well, Douxie can’t help himself and gives Zoe a good long smooch after they’ve destroyed half of Bellroc’s army.
Toby in the distance : HOW LONG HAS THAT BEEN A THING?????
Archie just groans.
And meanwhile, Jim’s finally facing off with Bellroc. After having one of the most badass fights in the franchise, Jim comes out on top, skewering Bellroc in the stomach with Excaliber.
AND BOOM THEY DID IT GUYS EARTH IS SAVED.
....But not without great cost.
Toby’s been mortally wounded, crushed by the falling pieces of the Fire Titan. There’s the tearful, heartbreaking moment Jim has to say goodbye to his best friend, the one who was there with him through it all.
“We did it, Jimbo...We did it...”
Jim holds Toby in his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Claire holds Jim and weeps beside him. Aaarrgh is in hysterics but is calmed to pained whimpers by Blinky. The Arcadia Gang grieves, feeling the painful weight of losing the friends they held so dear....Nomura, Nari, and now Toby.
Time Skip/Montage
Douxie found a proper apartment in Arcadia. He keeps a potted plant with those distinct pink flowers, the flowers Nari loved, on his windowsill. Smiles softly at them every time.
Scenes of Mary with Darci as she mourns. Steve and Eli hanging out. Douxie and Krel jamming, Krel creating beats and Douxie riffing on his guitar. Aja and Claire going on that lunch date. Archie taking a nap on top of Aaarrgh. Walter playing classical music.
It’s taken a while, but Jim’s starting to feel a little bit better. Douxie, Krel, Steve, and Eli came over for some bro time. Seeing the pain in his eyes, Douxie gives Jim a hug.
The final scene is a picnic at everyone’s favorite spot in Arcadia with a single bench and an awesome view of the town.
Aja and Steve are cuddling. Krel and Eli play with a frisbee. Blinky, Aaarrgh, and Varvatos laugh around a table. Douxie and Zoe, holding hands, are having a lively chat with Claire. Jim serves up a huge plate of enchiladas.
Walter and Barbara announce their engagement. Everyone celebrates.
EMOTIONAL SPEECH VOICEOVER TIME.
Aja, Varvatos, and Eli depart back to Akiridion-5. Steve honks into a tissue. Krel pats him on the back as he waves to his sister.
Barbara kisses Jim on the forehead before going home with Walter.
Zoe kisses Douxie on the cheek and heads off.
Steve and Krel are the next to go.
Douxie, Archie around his shoulders, pulls both Jim and Claire into a hug before leaving.
Blinky gives Jim a hug. Aaarrgh nuzzle him, looking sad.
Jim and Claire hold hands and sit on the bench, gazing out at the town.

High-Rise Invasion Review: Bloody Anime is a Satisfying Character Study

This review contains no spoilers and is based on all 12 episodes of High-Rise Invasion season 1.
“I refuse to die. I won’t lose to a world like this.”
There’s nothing quite like a good, heightened mystery, especially if it’s working in tandem with something like the horror genre. Audiences have become increasingly savvy towards and desensitized by even the most extreme examples of each genre, which pushes entertainment to go even further.
This isn’t always the right approach, but it can sometimes be just the right kind of crazy and High-Rise Invasion succeeds in finding that balance. The new Netflix anime initially feels like Rob Zombie’s animated take on The Most Dangerous Game or Battle Royale, but it soon becomes far more than a parade of blood, guts, and lunatics. High-Rise Invasion has a complex message that it wants to convey and the anime cuts much deeper than the simple flesh wounds that cover the cast of characters.
Yuri Honjo is a typical teenager who wakes up in an abstract prison reality that consists purely of the tops of skyscrapers and pits regular humans against deadly individuals in intimidating masks. It’s a lot like if John Wick’s assassins consisted purely from the serial killers in The Strangers. It’s a chilling scenario and Yuri is running for her life too quickly to be able to properly question what’s going on. Yuri learns that her brother, Rika, is also in this strange scenario and her goal becomes to reunite with her sibling and find an escape together.

Anime For Beginners: Best Genres and Series to Watch

Aesthetics are a major factor in anime and High-Rise Invasion tries its best to present visuals that are as engaging as central mystery and story. High-Rise Invasion comes from the more recent anime studio, Zero-G, but it’s definitely one of their most polished works. There’s a strong art direction here and the animation style even feels reminiscent of a grungy anime OVA from the ’80s. The anime’s soundtrack beautifully taps into this energy and it’s full of electric guitar rock riffs that honestly feel like they could be Queen tracks. They intensify and become more wild during the anime’s more chaotic moments.
At first it appears as if the objective in High-Rise Invasion is rather cut and dry, but Yuri learns something radically different each time that she digs deeper into her surroundings or the murderous individuals who wear masks. The anime does a good job with how it illustrates that the masked antagonists are victims in their own ways and that there’s an even higher power that’s using everyone as tools to fulfill a twisted game. The complications and layers behind the new “realm” that Yuri is stuck in are what give the anime such life and make it more than some edgy hack-and-slash action series.
The ideas that High-Rise Invasion poses turn the anime into a larger meditation on what humans will do to survive and how far they will sell their values in order to secure their safety. This isn’t exactly an original idea, especially with how some mysterious and shady benefactor is behind the whole operation, but the execution is at least very unique.
It becomes a creative character study that does manage to say something new on these themes. Some of the most entertaining material that’s tackled through this is Yuri’s struggle to find a way to survive, but to not become worse than the monsters that hunt her. It’s a struggle that’s present from the very first episode and High-Rise Invasion explores it in a pseudo-realistic manner that doesn’t feel overly rushed for Yuri’s development.
A major source of tension in the series stems from how Yuri is trusting and wants to see the bests in others, but this makes her a major liability in the process. This is a game where no one should be trusted and allies are collateral damage in the making, but Yuri finds a real sense of purpose and security when she meets another lost soul in this world, Mayuko Nise. Mayuko’s aggressive personality is quite the contrast to Yuri, but there’s immediately a palpable chemistry between them.
Mayuko gets introduced as an ally for Yuri, but Sniper Mask gets brought in just as quickly as a formidable opponent. He’s treated as a parallel figure to Yuri who also wants to figure out the basics of this world, but he comes at it from a different angle than Yuri and Mayuko’s necessity for survival. Sniper Mask ultimately becomes the most fascinating of High-Rise Invasion’s characters since he exists in this fractured state where he has some level of awareness that allows him to question the rules that govern this realm.
High-Rise Invasion unpacks this larger mystery with three separate series of events between Yuri’s party, Rika’s group, and Sniper Mask’s team. These three narratives all cover different aspects of this universe and it’s an effective strategy that builds real excitement once these disparate objectives get to align and come together. It all helps contribute another layer to how the true goal of this situation may not be to escape and that there’s actually something more appealing to those within the universe.
People will likely come into High-Rise Invasion for the murder and trippy concept, but they’ll leave talking about the friendship between Yuri Honjo and Mayuko Nise. Yuri explodes with joy whenever Mayuko shows her appreciation and they form a sisterly bond that’s truly wonderful, as is Mayuko’s embarrassment every time she opens herself up to Yuri a little more. These two have somehow brought out the best in each other in this twisted world and the growing bond between them is one of the highlights of the series. They’re the new reigning Murder Wives.
No one in the cast feels like a waste, but Yuri and Mayuko grow into especially entertaining protagonists who have a surreal sense of humor and empathy that add a lot to each of them. Mayuko’s romantic love towards sharp blades is a good example of High-Rise Invasion’s wild mix of sensibilities. The dynamic between Yuri and Mayuko is a consistent delight, but High-Rise Invasion develops strong character dynamics across the board and there are multiple pairings of unlikely figures that blossom into endearing friendships by the end of the season. Sniper Mask is often played in juxtaposition to Yuri and his bond with Kuon Shinzaki is also genuinely sweet.
The vocal performances in the English version are also exceptional across the board and add a lot to the characters. Suzi Yeung as Yuri and Jonas Scott as Sniper Mask are the best of the lot, but everyone makes a strong impression. The Mask characters are by nature caricatures and all have generalized names that speak to their weapon of choice like Sniper Mask, Axe Mask, or even Masked Rider Mask. Baseball Mask and Chef Mask are some of the most creative of the lot and are also highly terrifying. High-Rise Invasion at least seems to be aware of how absurd and exaggerated all of this is and is in on the “joke.”
It’s common for series with an overarching mystery as dense as High-Rise Invasion to drag things out or for there to not be enough content to sustain the entire season. High-Rise Invasion very carefully parses out details where different characters collect disparate nuggets of what’s going on in this “realm,” while the audience is allowed to piece all of this together and try to get a little ahead of the game. The anime is also a case where it only improves as the season goes on and it doesn’t run out of ammunition after the first few installments. If anything, it uses this time to work out its more awkward impulses and really find its groove with the characters and structure.
Once everything does come together there’s a considerably different story being told than what it initially seemed. The answers that High-Rise Invasion provides are satisfying and still leave plenty to be discovered in subsequent seasons. These episodes do feel like the end of a first chapter and that the anime and its world are about to get considerably bigger in its second season, yet there’s still enough of a full story being told that the ending doesn’t feel incomplete.
High-Rise Invasion is a very satisfying journey that’s thankfully more than the sum of its parts. It’d be easy for this series to coast on some creepy imagery and boatloads of violence, but there’s a more intricate story that’s in play here. It does give in to some of its baser instincts at times, but this first season delicately builds a gripping mythology and solid foundation to fall back on.

This is an anime with dozens of murders across its 12 episodes, heightened brainwashed assassins, and those that want to ascend to a level of deity, but it’s really about finding independence in an oppressive world and how the right friend can change someone’s universe. High-Rise Invasion manages to make its gonzo murder party somehow feel relatable and spill just as much empathy as it does viscera.

Higurashi Gou Liveblog: Episode 2
HEY (I knew this episode was when we got told that this was an addition but not a remake but like damn okay we’re not playing around here) and I say again HEY, Rika deserves to have gotten out of this by now!
Okay the sea of kakera has changed a lot.
“I’m just a lingering trace of myself.” Hmm. Don’t like that. This is very much not like Hanyuu and I am very much not liking this.
Hell yeah Rika, don’t give into despair.
New opening is dramatic and gorgeous as shit but I’m sorry, you can NEVER be the original opening. Its not bad, there’s just only room for one Higurashi opening in my heart.
FUCK OFF FEATHERINE!

Keiichi you dumb fuck you are literally hitting with the worst part of the blade to cut something apart. I’m sorry but crouching and hitting something with the point is NOT the way to cut open a bar, post, or anything else long and thin. No leverage, no cutting edge, and Keiichi has never been more obviously a dumbass cityslicker.
Two seconds after me noticing his exaggerated swings and grunts are a lot like the first murder scene of the anime, Keiichi immediately flashes into the memory of beating Rena and Mion to death and I have never felt so thematically validated.
Okay Rena absolutely remembers some shit.
Oh and they’re wrapping the statue up like the bodies she chopped apart in Atonement, we’re getting all the callbacks.
Rena has a large collection of mascot statues and I don’t know why that came as a surprise to me.
OH WHAT we are getting trace memories left and right! First Rena probably remembering Keiichi fucking murdering her with a bat, now Keiichi remembering shit about Tomitake!
“I thought he was a detective or a spy” Tomitake is a sniper instructor and secret agent, Keiichi, get your facts right.
Rena continues to be sus as hell.
Okay Keiichi just burned Satoko to the ground.
Aw she’s giving him headpats before he breaks into her family’s shrine and eventually ends up horribly murdered for it.
Oh so that’s where Rena went in Abducted by Demons.
I like the added detail of actually getting to see Rika’s ceremonial dance for once. Mion playing wingman for Keiichi is also great, even if I ship her with Keiichi than I ship Rena with him.
Okay damn the ritual offering dance interplayed with introducing Takano was AMAZING thematic parallels, especially considering the antecedents of that dance.
Oh I am NOT liking what the closing implies.

The night was cold back then. You were shivering, the silence disturbed by soft noise the machines next to you made, the ones that were supposed to make sure the person laying in the bed was stable.
V was safe, that you were sure of. He was peaceful, laying here, not bothered by anything. The whole world seemed so far away from him. All that happened all along. He looked as if he forgot about it already, drowned in the world of his own.
Your hands trembled when you dialed the same number for the second time. Then the third, the fourth.
Nothing.
The bad feeling never left you, not even for a while.
And it was only worse when, in the morning, Seven’s words confirmed your worst predictions.
„So… everything ended well, right?” Zen smiled softly, glancing at the ceiling. After all the stress he went through, RFA could finally see him at ease.
“Guess so…” Yoosung mumbled, staring down at the beer Zen bought to cheer everyone up.
V had been released from the hospital fairly quickly and everyone decided to chill out together, now that everything seemed fine.
You, V, Zen, Yoosung, Jumin and Jaehee.
Zen was the most relieved about all the things. V didn’t speak much, he was obviously still tired and no one let him even stand up on his own yet. Yoosung was a bit quiet, but tried to joke along. Jumin and Jaehee were exhausted, but both of them seemed the most like usual. The special unit didn’t need all the attention anymore. Everyone deserved some rest and they finally got it.
Only your thoughts were clouded, as you sat in the middle of the room, staring at the TV as if the movie actually absorbed you.
It didn’t and you didn’t even try to lie to yourself.
“Ah, we should have more meetings like this… Even trust fund kid isn’t as annoying as usual when he’s tired” Zen smirked. His attitude was starting to get on your nerves, but you knew he wasn’t doing it on purpose. It was only natural though… to be annoyed by people who didn’t understand you, right?
“You talk a lot as for someone who didn’t even move a finger to guarantee the RFA’s safety” Jumin answered, crossing his arms, but not sparing him even a single glance, his eyes fixated on the screen.
“Hey, I took care of Yoosung…! You can’t imagine how bothersome he was…” he sighed tiredly.
“Zen…! I’m not a kid, you know…” Yoosung whined quietly. “You say it as if you were babysitting me!”
“Come on, it was almost like babysitting… You looked as if you were about to do something incredibly stupid, so I had to watch over you all the time~”
“If you’re so exhausted by a mere few days of babysitting, I’m not surprised you chose a career that doesn’t require you to get married” Jumin said with a soft smirk that made Jaehee get amazingly pale in less than a second.
“Taking care of a baby is not an easy duty, Mr. Han…”
“Guys, but I’m not a baby, stop it already!”
Everyone laughed, except for Yoosung, who pouted and turned away from them. It seemed as if they just needed it. To laugh a bit, to chill out, to forget about what just happened.
Even V seemed as if he already didn’t think about it anymore. About Ray, about Rika, about the Mint Eye. How come it was so easy for him to just throw it aside?
You tried to be mad. Your thoughts were clear: he was the only person that could be blamed for what happened now, ever since Rika ended in the mental hospital as she clearly wasn’t in her right mind anymore. And still, V seemed to… get out of it the most comfortable way possible, well, aside from his physical injuries.
You desperately felt as if you needed someone to blame.
And yet… no matter how much you thought about it, you could only blame yourself.
For not being there. For not realizing earlier.
You couldn’t be cheerful, careless, act as if nothing happened. Not after what you heard. The last words still echoed in your head.
I love you.
The overwhelming tension you felt ever since you escaped with V, all of it suddenly wrapped around you tightly, making you feel as if you were about to suffocate.
The high walls of sorrow, trapping you inside, crushing you more and more with every passing second.
Everyone could see you getting worse. No one knew how to help you. Because no one, except for V, knew what was the reason of your state. Others probably thought you just needed to somehow relieve all the stress, everyone would be overwhelmed after what you came through in such a short amount of time, right?
But it was not the case. V knew only part of the truth. All he knew was that someone died, and that you were somehow attached to that person.
He wasn’t there when you heard that voice: the voice filled with sorrow, overwhelming sadness. Voice of the person who was completely broken, the person who’s been left by everyone else. V was sleeping, not even thinking about it, not realizing the pain you were going through, the pain way worse than the physical one he had to experience.
And you also weren’t where you were supposed to be. Not there, in the Mint Eye, where your heart stayed even after you ran away. Maybe if you didn’t leave, or maybe if you came back, or even just tried to come back, telling him to go and take you away… Maybe it’d be different. Maybe he wouldn’t…
Or would it be the end of the both of you?
Was it… what should have happened?
You couldn’t know it.
Overwhelming helplessness made a single tear escape the corner of your eye, your head hurting from all the crying you went through so far. It’s been only three days and you couldn’t stop grieving.
You felt as if you’d never be able to.
His eyes were focused on the screen. Nothing could disturb him as his fingers tapped the keyboard in a regular, almost boring way. The tapping echoed through the room along with the shuffling of aluminum bags being picked up and tossed into a trashcan.
“How come you make such horrible mess even when you don’t move away from your computer…?” the quiet murmur almost reached his ears, but he was too focused to notice it anyway.
The redhead stared at the screen as the satellite photoshoots appeared and for a few seconds, there was such silence surrounding them that Vanderwood was genuinely curious if the agent didn’t faint in the meanwhile. It was the third day since he started working and he didn’t get any sleep in this time. His only friend was this junk food that made him look like a zombie, but at least be productive.
And he didn’t even touch the actual work he had to do, Vanderwood sighed.
Seven didn’t look good lately. Ever since the mysterious explosion, when he almost barged into the burning residence, he tried to restore all the information from all the sources he could find. The files saved on computers in there were mostly destroyed, but he worked on what he could find.
And it seemed as if everything he found was somehow suspicious.
Vanderwood didn’t question it.
“This…”
Seven’s eyes flickered and his hands froze in the air right before he was about to start tapping again.
His associate stalked closer, quietly glancing over his shoulder, but knowing better than to say a word.
“No…”
His voice died down and his shoulders trembled slightly.
“Huh? Seven? What’s going on?”
In a blink of an eye, he got up, almost tripping over his own feet and making the chair collide loudly with the ground.
Without a single word, he ran to the door.
“Ack- wait! What with the wor-“
“Need to talk to V” Seven mumbled.
A second later, the door slammed behind him.
Vanderwood shook his head in disbelief, staring at the door for a while.
Was he annoyed? More than ever. Was he surprised? Not at all.
Before he returned to cleaning all the mess Seven left, he briefly glanced at the satellite photos, still opened on the huge screen of his computer.
In one of them, fairly small, there was a boy. Injured, with his clothes torn apart, which wasn’t too clear because of the photo’s quality. But even the monochromatic coloring didn’t hide his white hair, dirty and messed by the hot wind breathing onto him from the nearby fire.
„We need to talk… about that hacker.”
Seven’s hand gripped tightly his phone as the other made sure his car doesn’t turn suddenly, keeping the steering wheel stable.
“What do you… want to know?” V’s voice was quiet all of sudden, but the boy didn’t really mind it much. His heart was racing from nervousness.
“I… What would I want to know? It’s just…” He took a deep breath. “He didn’t die in the fire.”
“What?”
He could almost feel V’s facade drop and he heard some shuffling, along with someone’s voice telling him to not move too much.
“Wait a moment.”
“Are you still at Zen’s place?”
“Yes, but…”
“I will be there in a few minutes.”
“I… don’t know if it’s a good idea.”
“What? Why?”
There was a short silence on the other side of the phone. V sighed softly and Seven heard even more shuffling. Someone mumbled incoherently, trying to stop him from moving too much, but it seemed that everyone was already too drunk to actually care.
The soft, quiet voice could be heard when V spoke again, probably from a place where he couldn’t be heard by the others.
“Are you sure about that…?”
“I… don’t know if he’s still alive. He’s injured. But he escaped the building, that’s I’m sure of. V… I know it’s been three days, but, he may still be somewhere in this forest. He could be not able to escape too far. No one really checked it. If it’s true, we need to find him before anyone else does. Or before he… I don’t want him to die, V.”
“I don’t either, but…”
“But…?”
“MC.”
“Huh?”
V’s voice quivered slightly, betraying his own nervousness. He was clearly reluctant to talk about this, even more that any second someone could hear what he was talking about.
“She… can’t know.”
“What…?”
“She can’t. Promise me that you won’t tell her about it. Or anyone else in the RFA. And… It’ll be the best if you just leave it to me.”
“Wha- V! Are you kidding…? Did we go through the whole start to fucking trust others phase only to make more secrets…?”
“…”
“MC deserves to know. And I won’t leave it either.”
“Luciel, I really think you shouldn’t-“
“And I think you should take it seriously for once.”
He threw the phone onto the backseat, not even caring whether or not the call ends from the impact.
He drove silently for a few minutes, his mind emptied. He didn’t even know where to go now. V complicated things, as always. He didn’t change at all.
Rika wasn’t the problem from the beginning. The problem was V himself.
He stopped the car in the middle of the road and stared at the dark surroundings. It was late, almost midnight. He just barged out without a single thought, only knowing what he wants to do. Was he at least a bit considerate? Should he really risk that much only because of this suspicious feeling he had now?
Because he was more than sure that he shouldn’t just leave it like this.
Was there a reason why he was so desperate to continue this inquiry? Why couldn’t he just let go of it?
Maybe it was because it was the first time he met someone who could actually be a competition to him? The hacker’s skills were impressive, that’s for sure. They made Seven curious, more than ever.
From the moment he started digging, he kept having that weird feeling: it didn’t let him give up, even when he collapsed while going to the bathroom during this three days long restless work.
He didn’t hesitate even for a second opening the car’s door, even though he knew how dangerous driving in this state could be. Was it still devoutness or should he already call it stupidity?
Now he did hesitate. Something seemed very off in this all. Some pieces of this puzzle seemed to be missing, preventing him from finding the final answer. His mind was empty for a moment, and now all the thoughts came back with such a force that his head spun.
He rushed out of the car, slamming the door closed and leaned against it, breathing heavily.
What was wrong, what was going on?!
He couldn’t calm down now.
He heard the faint sound of his phone on the backseat and turned around, expecting to see V’s number on the screen, ready to reject the call or just ignore it.
But that wasn’t it. The phone showed a number he already knew, even though he didn’t use it too often.
It belonged to MC.
He opened the back door and reached for the phone, pressing the green button and without a word, placing the phone next to his ear.
“Seven…?”
“MC… What’s up?” he asked, trying to sound as cheerful as possible. The tiredness in his voice was more than clear though, he could tell how unconvincing he was right now.
“Is this… true? Is he…” She cleared her throat, trying to sound calm. He could hear her voice trembling though. “I heard you talking with V just now, is he… Is Ray… alive…?”
“It’s…”
“Seven… Please, don’t lie to me… Not you, at least…”
“V wouldn’t approve talking about thi-“
“I couldn’t care less now. Seven. If he really is alive. If there’s a chance. The smallest chance that he didn’t die, that he… That he is somewhere, alone, without anyone to help him now… Please, help me look for him. I can’t leave him, I can’t leave him alone, Seven. Ever again.”
He took a deep breath and held it in his lungs for a while, before letting it out heavily.
He slowly closed the back door and got back onto the driver’s seat. He shook his head in disbelief.
And spoke.

Kiersten Fraust: Hey! What's up guys? It's me, Kiersten Fraust and my co-host on this crazy ride Logan Feniiiiiix! We are finally back to talk everything Christ with our great viewers, wherever you may be.
Kiersten turns to Logan with a smile.
Kiersten Fraust: I got a question for you, Logan... Are you ready?
Logan Fenix: Oh I’m ready… wait, for what? This show right?
Kiersten Fraust: Yes. We got a lot to cover from the CCW show that happened.
Logan Fenix: A lot happened on that super show, we never thought it would air due to technical difficulties even, but it happened! Where to even begin?!
Kiersten Fraust: Well, we got a huge surprise when Natalie and Paris Traeger showed up to the dismay of Brennan Devlin. That feud is starting to take a turn.
Logan Fenix: I never thought in my life I would see a baby attack a grown man and take him to the mat, to the point the roster had to come break it up. Then that 450 Splash from Devlin on Paris..
Kiersten Fraust: I am always for girls doing their thing, so I support Paris for what she’s doing and standing her ground against Brennan. She’s iconic as the city she’s named after.
Logan Fenix: Paris is a no good neanderthal and a degenerate. She doesn’t work here!
Kiersten Fraust: Paris is a sweet angel that Brennan maliciously targeted
Logan Fenix: I saw Santana teaching her how to hide knives on her person before she came out there.
Kiersten Fraust: It’s a bit much. But we also have the Christ Centered Combat that happened before the show. It was just as crazy as CCW.
Logan Fenix: And on Christ Centered Combat, we had a new Combat Crown Champion crowned in Azi, who beat Jacob Kuntz in the Sandcastle Deathmatch, and general manager of CCC Faith McKinsey has been challenged to a best of seven series with Tinsley Marshall.
Kiersten Fraust: I really feel for Faith. I mean I can only imagine running a show is tough, but to also have somebody wanting your head and want nothing more to embarrass you on television. Tinsley needs to chill out.
Logan Fenix: Tinsley is trying to assert her dominance, it could have been her in charge of the show and Faith got it all. But at the end of CCW Christ Centered Combat, we saw Heather Haze, the current Golden Ticket Champion attack the new Combat Crown Champion, Azi. Could we see a title vs. title match at Wrestling With Christ?
Kiersten Fraust: It is possible. Although Azi is capable of defending the Combat Crown championship to whoever dares step up to her, Heather Haze has taken that challenge. Maybe it could turn into a champion versus champion situation? Wrestling With Christ could settle that real quick.
Logan Fenix: And then we have several new contenders for the CCW championships. Rika seems to have been picked to face off against C.J. Sweet for the Christcore, and the self proclaimed Golden Ticket, Rivers, has won his opportunity to face Siberia Zombie for the Television championship. And who can forget the tags, the hot ones, Children of the Moon have gotten their shot at Brew Collar by defeating the Killer Baes.
Keirsten Fraust: I find this to be very interesting because C.J. has been on a rampage ever since she's won the christcore championship and she's picked up a few along the way. How do you think Rika will fare in their future match up?
Logan Fenix: Rika has been a force, and I mean, I don’t know. If this were any other company, and in the Tokyo dome, Rika would win because Japan. But who’s to say? She couldn’t even go to Saudi Arabia last time, something about being banned, which Essence did first.
Kiersten Fraust: Then you have to factor in that girl gang of hers....
Logan Fenix: The trio of CJ Sweet, Rimadonna and Astraea are hot, literally and figuratively right now. I wouldn’t want to be Rika. But okay, Siberia Zombie has been a force, she has been to Saudi Arabia and won the Television Championship in the past. She bizarrely claims this place ‘spawned’ her, and now, the Golden Ticket, the man who holds the record for most Golden Ticket Championship reigns, Rivers, looks to drown her in the depths for the CCW Television Championship…
Kiersten Fraust: Looking at both competitors, this match is very hard to predict. Siberia has that heart and fight in her- two things that got her the television championship. Then we have Rivers, who has just as much fight in him as Siberia does and puts everything on the line in the name of independent wrestling. Like you said Rivers has the most golden ticket reigns to his name so he knows what it takes to win a championship.. If you had to choose one, Logan, who would you choose?
Logan Fenix: I’m going to go with Siberia Zombie, she’s proven, Rivers still has questions about if he’ll crumble under the pressure. Now, Kiersten, you pick?!
Kiersten Fraust: Like gun to my head... Probably... Rivers. I mean I like Siberia and she's such an amazing wrestler but I could see Rivers walking away with the Television championship, especially if Belle Valentine is at ringside. She could be the reason why he wins.
Logan Fenix: Hmm, that’s fair… but then for the last one I mentioned. Brew Collar, Wilkow and Danielson taking on Bex Thoreau and Julie Miri, the Children of the Moon. Everyone has an opinion on how this will go, and since the COTM came here, these two groups have been on a collision course. Who ya got?
Kiersten Fraust: The tag team division has been really hot in CCW right now and it's all thanks to Children of the Moon and Brew Collar. Not trying to take anything away from the Killer Baes, they're great despite their little annoyances. But wherever Children of the Moon go success seems to follow them. My pick is pretty obvious. Children of the Moon hands down.
Logan Fenix: Brew Collar for me, but, there is another question. The Killer Baes have mentioned having friends, we’ve seen Astrid and Corrie interacting with two other girls on Twitter… could we see their tag team grow into a stable, and what would that mean for this match? Clearly the feud isn’t over between them and the COTM… but the COTM and Brew Collar have their own problems. What a mess.
Kiersten Fraust: More girls added to The Killer Baes? That only spells trouble for everybody. And speaking of trouble, Conor Machina made his grand appearance on CCW television with an open challenge. A challenge that was answered by Void Walker. Watching the whole thing gave me the creeps.
Logan Fenix: Bun Bun is Void Walkers brother, Kiersten. A Southern religious mans’ brother is a man who wears a rabbit mask over his head. And at the end, Conor accidentally unmasked him… and now Bun… I guess Ben Walker is more dangerous than ever alongside his brother?
Kiersten Fraust: Oh, right. Bun Bun Ben Walker definitely made his presence known when he hit Conor with a chair and proceeded to viciously beat him with it. Either way, Void Walker said he would see Conor at Wrestling With Christ. Sounds like a match will be set between the two.
Logan Fenix: I like Bun Bun Ben Walker. Let’s see… after that, there’s something weird going on with Neve. Did you see her reacting to that guy heckling? She should have gotten him thrown outta here!
Kiersten Fraust: Yeah, I saw him and that huge sign he was carrying. She must have known him? I mean you can say that about literally most of the fans in the venues. Most of them are there to watch and react to what's going on, then there's the hecklers. Moving on, we have to discuss what took place after Mitch McMaster stumbled into the venue. While Angel was trying to compose her father, Chellsea showed up to tell Angel who her next opponent would be and that is Mykie Villanueva! Angel didn't look too happy.
Logan Fenix: I hope those people Mitch ran over are okay too. But yeah, Mykie Villanueva, she hasn’t been seen since that tour Rock Pearson did back in Guatemala. Apparently it’s gonna be a main event of CCW Sunday School, the morning before Wrestling With Christ?
Kiersten Fraust: We heard it from Chellsea's own mouth. So, Angel McMaster versus Mykie Villanueva is official for CCW Sunday School. Considering the outcome of the Mitch and Santana match, Angel is going to be a very busy champion come Wrestling With Christ. You saw what happened in that match, right?
Logan Fenix: An old man was caught on fire, there was an attempted drowning, stabbing, and more.
Kiersten Fraust: Now Santana Johnson is the number one contender for the CCW heavyweight championship at Wrestling With Christ. Let that sink in.
Logan Fenix: Nate Paxton was visibly angry at ringside, he’s been professional but he’s a outspoken critic of deathmatch wrestling. People on the internet are mad. All 47 of Santana's daughters are ecstatic, though.
Kiersten Fraust: I do not want to be Angel right now. Defending your championship is one thing but to defend it against a guy like Santana is another. The CCW heavyweight championship match is going to be a roller coaster ride.
Logan Fenix: As if being in Saudi Arabia wouldn’t make you nervous enough.
Kiersten Fraust: Speaking of making someone nervous, I know our next guest will. Please welcome our guests at this time, one of the many bosses in CCW Chellsea and her lovely husband Daequan!
The cameras pan over to where Chellsea and Daequan walk from as she takes his arm, leading to the table to join Logan and Kiersten. Both given microphones.
Kiersten Fraust: Thanks for joining us guys.
Chellsea: Thank you so much for having us. Your outfit is so cute.
Daequan didn’t speak, silently looked between Kiersten and Logan, then down at Chellsea’s rear end. Then he looked up to Kiersten and Logan and gave them a thumbs up.
Logan Fenix: Uh… hi to you too Daequan.
Kiersten Fraust: He's just showing love and appreciation for his wife. I just gotta ask now, what made you bring Mykie Villanueva to CCW?
Chellsea: It was my Dae's idea actually. I know he doesn't speak much but when he does, he says the most beautiful and intelligent things. Plus, Angel likes to talk herself up to anybody who'll listen to her and as a boss here, I have the unfortunate duty of finding her an opponent before defending the CCW heavyweight championship against Santana.
Logan Fenix: Are you not worried Santana will go too far? He’s known for…
Daequan makes a stabbing motion, while standing behind Chellsea in an uncomfortable seeming manner and seemingly mesmerized by her.
Logan Fenix: Yeah that, stabbing. And how about unfairness? She has to face Mykie before she can even get to that murderer?
Chellsea: I did set up the match between Mitch and Santana because it was fair. Mitch lost in the end which means that Santana gets his shot at Angel's championship. I don't see the problem with that. Yes, Santana is so out there with his antics and I was always under the impression that Angel is up for any challenge. My first priority to any wrestler who steps into our CCW ring is their health and well being.
Daequan: Men and women of action are favored by the Goddess of luck.
Logan Fenix: What.
Kiersten Fraust: I think he means that you get what you get... Daequan, who's your favorite tag team right now?
Daequan paused and thought about it for a moment before pointing at Chellsea’s chest.
Logan Fenix: Yes we get it you love your wife but an actual tag team, please.
Chellsea: Calm down, Logan. My husband is a little camera shy. But we absolutely enjoy Farm Fresh Beef. I hope we see more of them.
A sudden scream echoed out, the voice of none other than Sydney Vahle who was a known Farm Fresh Beef fangirl.
Sydney Vahle: “YESSSS!”
Logan Fenix: “Hi Sydney, bye Sydney.”
He waved as she passed by the door.
Kiersten Fraust: She's crazy about that team. Anyway, what can we expect from the upcoming Wrestling With Christ? Any surprises planned? Because judging from the last time CCW was in Saudi Arabia literally all hell broke loose.
Daequan: When Chellsea got her titties out, everyone goes all out. I think that answers your question.
Logan Fenix: That does not answer our question and please don’t have those out over there Chellsea, they’re very old world and it would be unsafe.
Chellsea: Dae likes to joke around. And I am very well aware of how they live in Saudi Arabia and I will be respecting their culture for the safety of the roster that will be traveling with us.
Logan Fenix: Okay, just a few more questions, I think. You’ve been sort of running the show alongside Brennan Devlin. How is that relationship working out? At first it seemed like you were butting heads but, you two were actually seemingly getting along at Thot for Christ?
Chellsea: Brennan and I have an understanding, and yes we've been friendly. We'd rather be working together than butting heads. The work environment is so much better because of it and the product has gotten better because of it. We like seeing results with the hard work our roster puts in.
Logan Fenix: Anymore questions, Kiersten?
Daequan remained behind Chellsea, hands on her rear end now. They were a bit uncomfortably in love and made it awkward for everyone.
Kiersten Fraust: Who are you wearing?
Chellsea: Chanel.
Daequan: She’ll be wearing my *bleep* in a second.
Before they could ask much else, Daequan lifted Chellsea up onto the table and actually started undressing her while they kissed passionately. Several cords being torn down or loose as Logan and Kiersten looked on in horror.
Logan Fenix: Shit, cut, cut, we can’t show this.

Mystic Messenger: ~V~ Good Ending Walkthrough -Updated-
Well looks like I was on the right track, because I finally got the good ending. Here is how I got it, these are indubitably not the only answers you can use to get it, but they worked for me.
Okay so this is a mess, and I'm sorry for that. I have no time to organize this into something nicer (Unfortunately homework is calling me T-T). It was literally typed in notes on my laptop (Lmfao not even Microsoft word *gasp*). It was basically something I was going to use to keep track of the right answers. I feel like someone can at-least use this to make a more proper/organized walkthrough.
The answers are not fully typed out, but there’s enough for you to know which one it is. I placed the name or typed out the color of the heart by the answer so you know who you are getting a heart from
The answers without a name next to them mean you get nothing.
I put a - or * next to the answers I picked.
I tried to pick the answers that would get me hearts for all the RFA members, and of course V ( I think I got most of the right answers for him).
I flirted a bit with Saeran... because... do I really need to explain? you can get away with doing it a little so I’ve heard, but I wouldn't do it a bunch.
Also careful the burgundy/ red violet hearts are Saeran/Rays, my dumbass did not know so, if I typed out red violet heart next to an answer that’s Saeran’s and um... you should probably not pick it.
Update: So I just found out from @alois-trancys-short-shorts that you actually shouldn’t be mean to Saeran, you can be supportive. To get the good and normal ending you need to rebuff him gently. So I'm assuming you need to not break his heart, which I think I do once, and then tried to fix it by getting another heart for him( because I felt bad). You probably shouldn’t break his heart at all.

Jumin wouldn't last five f**king minutes without his bodyguards in a zombie apocalypse. Saeran (before leaving Mint Eye) would be mowing down zombies. Yoosung and Saeyoung would treat the situation like LOLOL; holding their semi-automatic weapons for dear life and looting ammo like no tomorrow. Zen is a zombie magnet since zombies are attracted by sound and Zen LOVES to brag about himself. Sadly, V would be the sacrifice to the undead.
Lol, probably. But you probably have no idea about what happened in the rp then lmao.... It was basically like this from what I can remember from the top of my head: (btw, there are 4 MCs in the rp)
Apocalypse starts
Two MCs (Sharon and Mich) are in the mall, Saeyoung at his bunker, Saeran in hospital, V and Jumin together, Zen and MC (Kinnale) together, rip I can’t remember about Echo Girl and Mina, Yoosung on his way to a LOLOL convention I think
Zen and Kinnale end up getting prepared and then escape on Zen’s motorcycle, Kinnale believes she can fly jumps off Zen’s motorcycle believing she’s a burden to him(?)
V and Jumin get prepared, V has nothing with him, Jumin has Elly in a cat carrier, spare clothes, a good few bottles of stupidly strong painkillers, a fucking sword before they leave (the security outside are fighting zombies btw) and when they get out of the elevator driver kim has a zombie going nom nom nom on him
Echo Girl and Mina end up at a tower, later to be dubbed as ‘Pimp Tower’ as Kyungju finds pimp suits, drugs, and art supplies.
Zen and Kinnale end up at Pimp Tower and get medical attention
Sharon and Mich go to get weapons
V and Jumin trying to escape the zombies, but all of a sudden... DRIVER KIM ZOMBIE OUTTA NOWHERE AND INJURES V’S ARM
The Pimp Tower crew are able to phone V and basically say to go there and also to say bye bye to V’s arm
so
BYE BYE V’S ARM (juju KOs V with his stupidly strong painkillers to do it btw)
Yoosung just casually killing zombies because his cosplay meant he was actually very well prepared
oh yeah and whilst this is happening Saeran is just “oh okay then” in the hospital whilst Saeyoung is quickly driving there to get to him. Saeran is pissed off that he’s stuck wearing a hospital gown and has no weapons
Jumin is just “oh there is somebody (echo girl) spraypainting ‘pimp tower’ on that building, guess that’s where the RFA is” (like, he is totally unfazed)
V and Jumin arrive at pimp tower
Yoosung eventually arrives
ZOMBIE HOARD OUTTA NOWHERE
Pimp tower is abandoned
So they all flee in an RV
Kinnale Just Loves To Almost Die(tm) so she takes some of jumin’s strong painkillers
V is holding Elly during this and Kinnale is just like “I WANT TO HOLD THE CAT BUT V IS BLIND SO I CAN’T ASK HIM ZEN, CAN YOU WRITE DOWN THAT I WANT HER?”

V is just feeling sick so Jumin makes the RV stop so he can get some fresh air

Can you do the RFA + V with an MC who CANNOT sleep in a house alone. Like she's paranoid about someone breaking in, watching her in her sleep, etc. So by the party she's sleep deprived and close to passing out.

I ignored everything that happened in each party because that would’ve changed… well, your entire request, especially in certain routes. Just think of it as a neutral party? Taking Jaehee’s route as an example.

once he takes you somewhere quiet, gets you a chair, and makes certain you’re somewhat more stable, he squats down in front of you and holds your hand, stroking it softly as he listens to what’s been troubling you.

“I’m so sorry you had to go through that by yourself, MC.”
you can see true anguish in every corner of his face.
after a brief discussion with the rest of RFA, he offers to take you home and promises to stay with you until you feel better.
and even though he doesn’t say this out loud, he would gladly, ahem, sleep right next to you if it’ll make you feel safe and sound.

this place is so crowded and noisy and holY SHIT you look like you’re dying, MC, what the hell happened?
he’s eavesdropping on you and it’s quite evident you’re trying your best to make conversation with guests but you’re so disconnected from everything, stuttering and fidgeting and spacing out.
so he approaches you and carefully places a hand on your shoulder to help you out a little and pull you back to earth.
and… you startle at his touch and screech, he screeches as well and backs up, everybody goes quiet, things get awkward, suddenly the concept of spontaneous combustion sounds nice and fitting.
in order to avoid making things worse, though, he smiles for the guests, suggests them to try the food and takes you somewhere less crowded.
it’s not really a pleasant talk because you feel so dizzy and you’re afraid he may start nagging you for not getting enough sleep.
yet not surprisingly enough, he gets mad at everyone but you.
he’s mad at seven and v for leaving you all alone in someone else’s apartment and refusing to reveal your location
what was the point of that anyway?
he’s also mad at himself for not being there for you.
and while he rattles on and on about RFA’s irresponsible and careless members, your legs start feeling heavy and your vision gets blurry.
whoops, there goes MC who is now all passed out on the floor.
OH SHIT.
nope nope nope he’s getting you out of there rIGHT NOW.
not a chance he’s letting you stay at the party, you need a good ol’ beauty sleep to recharge and get better.

she’s been in your position more times than she can count.
it’s pretty obvious she recognizes all the signs of a sleep deprived individual.
and she’s honestly the sweetest and most caring of them all?
like honey, you’ve done more than enough for this huge success of a party, you’re even trying to socialize and interact with guests while struggling to stand and walk.
everything’s been taken care of and the guys are handling the party just fine, you don’t need to worry and you’re going home right. now.
because having you wander around while close to passing out could do more harm than you leaving early.
when she mentions driving you somewhere nearby rika’s apartment so you can get some sleep, your face immediately drops.

she’s quick to pick up your reaction and asks for an explanation.
after you provide her one, she deadpan nods and grabs you by the arm.
okay then it’s settled, she has no choice but to take you to her place.
when you both arrive, she puts you to bed and offers you a warm cup of tea to help you relax before heading out.
except she barely makes it two inches far from her bed because there’s something desperately pulling her sleeve.
she hesitates for a moment and urges you that you’re safe here, there are no bomb threats or possible intruders or hackers slash kidnappers waiting for the right time to take you away.
plus they’re expecting her at the party.
but… you’re persistent and you seem genuinely distressed thus she can’t just go on with her day knowing you’re feeling unsafe.
so she lies down next to you and lets you rest your head on her chest, and she promises to stay by your side until you wake up.
her heart is pounding like crazy and her cheeks are bright red, poor thing may explode at any given second but it’s okay it’s all good, it feels nice having you this close.
you soon fall asleep together and it’s the cutest thing.
Jumin
as soon as he arrives, he eagerly starts looking for you.
an alluring being among the crowd he simply cannot wait to meet, where can they be? you can tell how anxious he is just by looking at his left cuff.
he’s fidgeting with it nonstop.
he asks about your whereabouts to every RFA member and guest he encounters without any luck.
until he bumps into seven and pops out the same question yet again.
“there,” he answers while pointing at his back.
five seconds later you crash into him, both of you losing balance for a moment.
“are you drunk, MC?”
though harsh and quite direct, he tries to be discreet about it.
and in his defense, you do look a bit drunk and disoriented.
this isn’t how he imagined getting to meet you.
still, he’s a gentleman resolved to help you avoid embarrassment and discomfort, and instead of dwelling on the reasons behind your current state right there, he escorts you outside to have a talk.
what? what do you mean you’ve barely slept in the past two weeks?
he refrains from lecturing you because 1) you look like you could faint at any minute and 2) he doesn’t want to upset someone who’s already upset enough, it’d be no help.
“you should’ve called, why didn’t you? I would’ve kept you company.”
you know it’s serious when executive director jumin han is willing to sacrifice his sleep and tight schedule just to make sure you’re having a good night’s sleep.
but since “it’s no use crying over spilled milk” his words and he has zero fucks to give, he suggests fleeing from the party.
no worries he ends up calling jaehee to let her know you’re feeling unwell.
after getting into his car, you fall asleep on his shoulder.
he stays still and watches you sleep in silence, a cute, barely noticeable smile across his face.
Seven
oh noes.
he’s seen that “do i want death or am i already dead who the hell knows at this point” look you’re pulling off.
where, you may be wondering? oh, that’s right, in the fucking mirror every goddamn night for the past fifteen years of his life.
you look like a zombie wandering around the room, you’re bumping into people and making a mess your way.
you haven’t even realized there’s a wine stain on your pretty clothes.
YOU. NEED. HELP.
otherwise, he’s afraid you’ll pass out cold and the last thing you need right now is a concussion, so he comes up to you and greets you with one of his dumb jokes in order to lift your spirit.
it kinda works but you’re still looking… well, dead, and moody.
a moody zombie? yeah, that’s about it.
refusing to give up on you just yet, he grabs your hand and promises to stay by your side throughout the whole night so you can lean on him, literally, whenever you feel like you’re about to faint.
what was that? do you want to leave early instead? that’s cool too, jaehee will take care of everything don’t you worry, my brave soldier.
defender of justice seven zero seven’s got your back!!
you eventually leave the party together but you don’t go very far, instead, you lay down on a park nearby to contemplate the sky.
he’s telling you stories about the clouds idly passing by when he hears a sweet little snore.
it’s you!! you’ve fallen asleep on his chest, aw.
all the blood in his system gathers on his cheeks and he is now all red, you can’t tell his hair apart from his face.
and in order to keep you warm and well protected, he embraces you with both arms and kisses your head.
later on he falls asleep too because he’s just as sleep deprived as you.

surprise surprise! much to everyone’s expectations, lovely boy has decided to show up to the party!
and he’s so excited to meet you after hearing so many positive things about you and how you’ve put every ounce of energy into RFA’s party.
he needs to thank you properly!!
spotting you amidst the guests isn’t really hard as there’s a bunch of people gathered in the center of the room making commotion.
apparently, someone has fainted? he can hear yoosung screaming and asking people to make some room, zen is yelling something about CPR, and jaehee is rushing to the crowd while dialing what it seems to be 119.
what in the world…?
determined to do some damage control, he hurries to reach jaehee and tries to find out what the hell is going on.
“it appears MC has passed out and we don’t know the reason.”
no need to say more.
he kindly but firmly asks people to stay back so that you can get some air, and he also sends yoosung to get you a chair to sit on.
zen is in charge of bringing you a glass of water because boy needs to calm the eff down.
five minutes later he manages to sit you upright in a chair, away from the crowd and where you can get some fresh air.
six pairs of concerned eyes are piercing right through you while you try to regain consciousness, only one of them hidden behind sunglasses.
you may not see those eyes clearly, but they carry the most guilt out of all of them.
in his usual soft caring voice, he does an attempt to ask you what’s wrong, and as he gets the answer he was expecting, he frowns and strokes your hair.
“why didn’t you say anything? we could’ve helped you.”
were it not for the mess he’s sunken in thanks to rika, he would’ve gone to the apartment himself to make sure you were getting some sleep.

I know we’ve just met but I’m not afraid to say that my recent absence was because of a mental breakdown but I’m doing better now!
Okay, so any of you who follow my Voltron blog @imagine-voltron will know that I have a DEEP LOVE FOR ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE AU’S. So, of course, I have headcanons for Mystic Messenger zombies.
Btw spoilers for everything??
Also, I wanted to try something new! So, this is an interactive-type thing! Once you get to the end, there’ll be options and you guys get to pick where MC goes next on her zombie adventure! Pick the choice you like best and leave me a message in my askbox saying what choice MC should make.
So it all starts after the everything is said and done. Everyone is alive (for now), and MC just kind of ended up being everyone’s friend or like a big sister (to Yoosung and Saeran), and did not get together with anyone. V, Rika, and Saeran are all fine (as in alive), and everything is hunky-dory.
That is, until the outbreak.
There was chaos everywhere. No one knew what to do. Traffic was jammed for miles. People were panicking and running around wildly.
And MC was in her pajamas, alone in her apartment, unaware of what was going on outside.
She grabbed a cup of orange juice and her phone which, surprisingly had like 20 messages from everyone. Even V had tried to call a few times. She had gotten used to the constant messaging in the chats and waking up to about 50 new texts, but she had never woken up to about 50 missed calls.
She knew something was wrong.
She immediately thought of the worst. There was an accident. Zen tripped into a pile of cats and died from an allergic reaction. Jumin got into a car accident and died. Saeran cut his wrists open. Jaehee starved herself to death. Saeyoung got shot. Rika hung herself. V’s plane crashed. Yoosung got caught in the middle of a fight at school and someone pulled out a knife. Which one was it?
She decided to play the first voicemail. It was from V.
“MC... I know it’s late but you need to answer your phone. Please pick up, it’s awful. You need to--”
The message ended.
She played the next one, this one from Yoosung.
“MC, did you see what happened? Ah, I’m so scared! Are you okay? Stay inside! I’ll come get you, you’ll be safe, I promise!”
That worried her even further. When was this call placed? Midnight. When was it now? Six in the morning. Now, Yoosung only lives about a half hour away, so where is he?
She listened to message after message, eventually getting to the point where she figured out what was going on.
It was the end of the world. Dead people were roaming around and she had no idea how many of the people she loved had died.
She grabbed an old backpack from under the bed, looking around the apartment she had moved into after Rika moved back into hers.
She shoved in an extra pair of underwear, another shirt, a pair of pants, and a can of pepper-spray Zen had given her as a housewarming gift. She threw on regular clothes and took a peak out the window, hoping this could be a joke Saeyoung had roped everyone into playing on her.
However, when she saw the woman take a bite out of her baby’s head, she knew this was very real.
She ran to the bathroom to vomit after seeing it happen.
Still shaking from emptying her stomach of orange juice and last night’s dinner, she wandered into her kitchen.
She grabbed several cans from the cupboards, stuffing them into her bag. She grabbed water bottles, crackers, medicine from the cabinets, a kitchen knife, bandaids, a flashlight, batteries, socks, and a photo album. The album was the most important part of this little “survival kit”. It was full of photos of her family, both related by blood and related by friendship. Some were awful ones taken by a family member on their phone a few years ago, and some were nice ones of the group at events taken by V. She kept the pictures safe in the book in her backpack. She looked around her apartment, wondering if there was anything else she should take.
She stuffed more cans into her bag and filled another bottle with water. She grabbed her keys and her coat, running down the stairs and jumping into her car, looking in the back seat, just to make sure. If you’ve ever seen Zombieland, you’ll understand the car rule. She threw her backpack in the back seat, locking the doors and driving out of the parking lot.
She took a deep breath and thought about who she should go to.
She thought of looking for Yoosung. However, she was afraid that if she found him, he would be...
She thought about going to Rika. She’s probably terrified right now, unsure if this is just another one of her delusions. But she was sure V had gone to her as soon as he knew what happened. He cared about her, even though she hurt him. Such a nice guy...
Saeyoung and Saeran were probably safe. She doubted a zombie could break into their home. It was super secure, right?
Jaehee is well-versed in self-defense, so there wasn’t much to worry about with her. She’ll be okay for a little bit.
Jumin seems like the one who’d be safest, but in reality, she knew the guards wouldn’t stay with him. But he may have a bunker?
Decisions, decisions. She had to choose who to go to, and quickly. Her car was running out of gas. She only has enough to make it to one RFA member.
Who should she go to?
1. Look for Yoosung.
2. Go to Rika’s apartment.
3. Go to Saeyoung and Saeran.
4. Go to Jaehee.
5. Go to Jumin.
6. Go to V’s house.

We’re an entire month into the New Year. 2017 brought horror back into the lime light of popular cinema in full force. Now a solid month into 2018, are you keeping up with your New Year’s Resolutions? Fear not, fiends, there is always time to try something new! What better way to better yourself than expanding something you love?
Let’s talk about East Asian Horror. This sub-genre primarily consists of films from Eastern Asian countries including: Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, and others. Much like Giallo, French, or other film fanatics outside of North America; the horror blends in elements unique to the cultures from which they come. Some elements that are popularized in these films include a strong connection to the supernatural or that they don’t shy away from the ultra violence.
Currently there are as many films in this sub genre as any in horror. To help get you introduced to the horror out East, here are twelve films to get you started and why you should watch them.
A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)

Synopsis – Rika Nishina is a social worker assigned to watch over an ailing, elderly woman, but the house she lives in holds a dark whisper. Years before, a brutal double murder of a mother and her child left an imprint on the home. Their vengeful spirits will haunt whoever goes within this house’s walls until they vanish mysteriously. Rika, now tormented by these angered specters, must find out how to lift the curse of become one its victims.
Why You Should Watch – Jo On is a perfect starter for anyone wanting to explore East Asian Horror. It was one of the first few films to be adapted for North American audiences. Sam Raimi himself assisted with the production of the film, which saw wide release. The pacing and the way the cinematography of the original Japanese version will make you sit and watch the horror as it creeps its way towards you.
Shutter (Banjong Pisanthanakun & Parkpoom Wongpoom, Thailand, 2004)

Synopsis – Thun, a young photographer, and his girlfriend Jane flee from a car accident resulting in them leaving a badly hurt woman. Afterwards, ghostly images begin to appear in the photos that Thun takes. As the ghostly images become more frequent and the hauntings of a ghost woman begin, Jane begins to wonder, is there more to these ghostly torments?
Why You Should Watch – This is another film to get the Hollywood adaptation for North American release. Unlike similar films, The Grudge and The Ring, Shutter’s American adaptation was not as well received. The original version showcases a more fleshed out backstory to the spirit haunting Thun and Jane, as well as more ghost photography to send shivers down your spine.
Train to Busan (Yeon Sang-ho, South Korea, 2016)

Synopsis – Sok-woo is a busy man, so busy that time for his daughter Soo-ahn is usually a luxury. The divorcee wanting to please his daughter, decides to taker her on the KTX from Seoul to Busan so that she can see her mother. Things do not go well for their travels as a zombie outbreak wreaks havoc in South Korea. Now Sok-woo must protect his daughter from flesh eaters and the paranoid living alike, while trying to make it to Busan and possibly safety.
Why You Should Watch – Easily a good way to get into the style and cultural approach to Korean cinema while not shying away from the things that will make your skin crawl. The unique and fresh approach to the zombie theme has resulted in the film’s growing popularity everywhere. Keep an eye out for director Yeon Sang-Ho’s take on the superhero film, which will also be distributed by Netflix.
Noroi: The Curse (Koji Shiraishi, Japan, 2005)

Synopsis – Renowned paranormal investigator Masafumi Kobayashi is missing. His home is burnt down and the remains of his wife are within the ashen ruins. The film centers on the recordings of his newest, in development documentary ‘The Curse’. Find out what event led to Kobayashi’s disappearance and what dark story he was investigating.
Why You Should Watch – This is one of the best, found footage style horror films to see. Not only does the film follow some of the scare tactics seen in found footage, the film delves deeply into Japanese spiritualism and mythology. The movie is a slow burn but it will captivate you for every second.
Memento Mori (Kim Tae-yong & Min Kyu-dong, South Korea, 1999)

Synopsis – High school students Yoo Shi-eun and Min Hyo-shin find love in one another. Sadly the other students find out and chastise the two for their ‘taboo’ love. To avoid further criticism, Shi-eun begins distancing herself from Hyo-shin. Hyo-shin reacts by throwing herself of the roof of the school. After her death, supernatural terrors befall the students that criticized the relationship between the two.
Why You Should Watch – This is technically the second installment in the Whispering Corridors series. Each film centers on supernatural events in an all girls’ school setting with multiple characters to follow and focusing on the relationships between characters. The films are sort of campy with lower budgets and fun special effects. This one stands out as it focuses on a touchy subject even now in some parts of the world. Be sure to check out the other installments in the series.

Tensions are high between Su-mi and her stepmother, as she suspects abuse of her younger sister. With these tensions spreading amongst the family, hidden secrets come forth and the family’s tragic past begins to haunt the home.
Why You Should Watch – Family can be hell and returning home after time away can be worse. A Tale of Two Sisters explores this dark sensibility of a family’s past and does not give the viewer everything right up front. What make this film shine are the quiet moments. There are a lot of long periods of silence, making the audience focus in on the scene, searching along with Su-mi to find out more about what secrets hide in the walls.
Kairo [Pulse] (Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Japan, 2001)

Synopsis – Kudo Michi is searching for her friend after he went missing while working on a computer disk. While looking for him, she comes across strange sightings, black stains on the walls of other missing person’s homes, and a rising number of suicides happening across the city. At the same time, Ryosuke, an economics student, finds disturbing images of ghastly people alone in their rooms. Is it his new Internet service or is there something more supernatural at work?
Why You Should Watch – Technology helps us reach out to every corner of the earth, but what if it connected us to a complete other side of reality? A door can be opened as easily as typing in a URL. The film showcases that fear of an always-connected lifestyle. Kairo was another film to get the American adaptation but was easily forgotten amongst the slur of remakes. Luckily the original still stands out, giving us two diverging storylines that eventually intertwine by the film’s end.
Re-Cycle (The Pang Brothers, Hong Kong, 2006)

Synopsis – Ting-yin is a successful novelist trying to write her big follow up. After a trilogy of romance novels, she hopes to break into new genres. Writer’s block comes and now she isn’t sure where to take her new novel. After one chapter she deletes what she has, but things begin getting strange. Now she’s finding that the paranormal experiences around her are straight from the pages she wrote.
Why You Should Watch – For those that love creative worlds where you can be engrossed in the film’s setting, this one is for you. Re-Cycle is gleaming with strange creatures and an imaginative world likened to that of Alice in Wonderland. Going to a much darker and horrific approach, the film will push your comfort zones to a new level.
Thirst (Park Chan-wook, South Korea, 2009)

Synopsis – Father Sang-hyun is a devout religious man plagued by self doubt and a deep sadness for his life spent. With his desires to aide the ailing, he submits himself to research for a vaccine to a deadly virus that fails and leaves him to die. After a blood transfusion hoping to slow his death, he miraculously recovers. Changes begin to occur within the priest, while dealing with the title of a miracle healer and a captivating woman named Kang-woo, resulting in him to wonder why this dark hunger plagues him.
Why You Should Watch – This is a classic vampirism tale told from a more dramatic and conflicted state, while also dealing with the cultural expectations of the area. We watch as an already troubled man of faith deals with his own inner demons as well as the thirst now building in Sang-hyun. The film is moody and full of existential crisis within the main protagonist. A must watch for any vampire fan out there.
I Saw the Devil (Kim Jee-woon, South Korea, 2011)

Synopsis – Kim Soo-hyun is a secret service agent for the National Intelligent Service. One cold, winter night his fiancée Joo-yun is brutally murdered and her body parts are scattered throughout the town. Grief stricken and vowing vengeance, Soo-hyun begins a hunt to find her killer. What ensues is a descent into a dark world where Soo-Hyun tracks down and torments killer Jang Kyung-chul, no matter the cost.
Why You Should Watch – The film is a fantastic example of a theme common in countries like Japan and South Korea, which are the revenge thrillers/horror. While the film at times seems to sway more in the style of thriller, the concepts at play make the film horror genre worthy. There is excessive gore and graphic violence that make even the most secure stomach squirm. The film makes you wonder, how do you know who is possibly a murderer and who isn’t?
Audition (Takashi Miike, Japan, 1999)

Synopsis – Lonely widower Shigeharu Aoyama might be ready to move on and find love again. With the urgency from his son and the help of his close friend, Shigeharu hosts a phony audition to meet his next love. That’s when he meets the beautiful and reserved Asami. He is immediately infatuated with her. Despite being unable to confirm some of the contact on her resume, Shigeharu dates, beds, and proposes to Asami. The night of their engagement Asami disappears without a trace and he must search for her. During his search he begins to see that she may not be the woman of his dreams but of his nightmares.
Why You Should Watch – This is one of the earlier films from renowned auteur Takashi Miike. He is no novice to the horror genre and has specialized in some of the darkest and demented stories to see on the screen. The moment Asami enters the screen you can tell something is off. Audition will pull you in and lead you somewhere dark you will never forget.
Three… Extremes (Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan 2002)

Synopsis – The film is broken into three different segments, written and directed by different people in different countries.
Dumplings (Fruit Chan): Mrs. Li is an aging actress who wishes to rejuvenate her youth. With her husband taking on a mistress behind her back, she hopes a secret dumpling recipe from Aunt Mei with help her. What would you do to stay young and beautiful?
Cut (Park Chan-wook): Watch a deadly game, as a successful film director must face off against a deranged extra from his films. The extra is upset that such a man can exist who is wealthy and also a good person, when he is poor and abusive to his family. With the director and his wife’s life in the balance, he must prove that he is not as good as he seem to be.
Box (Takashi Miike): Kyoko is a novelist who is stricken with nightmares of her youth in the circus. Her memories of her late twin sister Shoko, and their benefactor Higata, who she had left behind long ago, haunt her. Kyoko then one day receives an invitation to the old circus she was once a part of, leaving her to wonder if that part of her life is actually behind her.
Why You should Watch – This one of the best introductions to East Asian Horror, hands down. The film instead of having a singular director for all three segments gathers three of the biggest names in the genre from each country of origin. Park Chan-wook, Fruit Chan, and Takashii Miike are some of the biggest names in their countries. Each brings their own style and approach to the horror genre. The first segment Dumplings, was also adapted into a feature length film in Hong Kong. The film also spawned a sequel with three different segments from different regions.

Thoughts on D-Reaper Arc
It took so, so long for me to get to this point because so much happens in Digimon Tamers that it even took me by surprise. But in a way I’m glad that a show like this could have so many complexities regarding it that I could write on and on about it and still not say everything there is to say. But I need to lay this to rest, and finish talking about the last of the third Digimon series--Digimon Tamers.
As a note, there’s going to be a lot of points I spend talking in this post about my full thoughts on certain characters and elements of the whole show than the overall plot of this specific arc, but I will address everything I can. I’ll try to keep it as linear as possible, but when certain characters come up, I will be discussing them in bulk. So let me get this post rolling under the break.
Honestly, the best way I can think to describe this arc based on past Digimon series is if you took the elements of danger from The Eighth Child/Myotismon arc from Digimon Adventure and the battle with Apocalymon and made it a ten episode arc. It has the kind of stakes you want in the finale of a Digimon series, but it has the sort of abstractness of Apocalymon and raises said abstractness up to 11. There is a lot of depth, and I probably can't dig deep enough into it in a single post, but that's part of what made it so good to watch.
I can't believe it took this long, but it finally takes until the freaking D-Reaper enters the real world that the people of this world realize how dangerous it might be to stick around and begin a mass evacuation of Shinjuku, even if it's a bit gradual. Seriously, were giant boars and equines not convincing enough for you people? Regardless, the Tamers want to do whatever they can to fight the D-Reaper, but their families are naturally against it. These conflicts do allow for some subtle developments, like Rika further reconciling with her mother before leaving to fight the D-Reaper as she's given a new shirt, now with a full heart as opposed to the broken heart one she always wears. And she actually changes into it. It's subtle, but little moments like this can help me really appreciate how Rika has developed in the series to become more open and establish more relationships with the people (and Digimon) around her, even if she won't always admit it. Henry also has to deal with the struggle of worrying his family--especially his mother--about taking such big risks to save others, but it really helps make the family dynamic complex while still not out of the ordinary either (other than Henry and Suzie being Tamers). The kind of conflict Henry's mother especially feels is very genuine and I really appreciate it. Takato doesn't get much here in that he already left his parents to guide Jeri home, but he kind of had his moment where he had to convince them to allow him to escort her anyway.
Later the parents do get to support the Tamers later on, similar to how the DigiDestined's parents in Digimon Adventure did, but we can really see them go out of their way to do so. The Tamers and their Digimon get invited to Rika's house, making them suspicious, but they arrive to a big meal prepared for them. It's basically the parents accepting that they have to let the kids do what they feel is best and try to stop the D-Reaper, and it is pretty touching. Again, it's a small thing, but it really shows just how much the parents really care for their kids in this series and even when it's so difficult for them, they are willing to support them. Plus, they do start to help out at Hypnos along with the Wild Bunch later. Also, Guilmon gets more Guilmon bread! Hurray!
Even Ryo gets like... a single moment with who we can assume is his dad, but it's not really enough for him. Unfortunately, the best that comes out of this is seeing his partner in Rookie form as Monodramon. But honestly? Monodramon is pretty quirky and adorable, now actually having a hint of personality over being Cyberdramon in a constantly grouchy mood. Still, when the Digimon partner is more interesting and deep than the Tamer... that's kind of a problem.
Jeri has also started acting... really weird after coming home. And I mean really weird. Not only is she a mindless zombie, but when she isn't she's pinning little kids to the ground and speaking nonsense, she eventually outright disappears. This is where Digimon Tamers starts to get into Nightmare Fuel territory and now I can start to see why the word "dark" is used for this series so often. Don't get me wrong, it was dark from the start, but it just gets downright creepy and surreal here, almost to kind of Silent Hill levels.
But with all of the danger now in the real world, we finally get some focus back on Impmon which we really haven't had since the Gallantmon fight. He finally decides to reconcile with his implied Tamers, Ai and Mako, but they're missing from their apartment due to the mass evacuation. However, they do leave a note specifically for Impmon letting him know they're at their grandmother's house. He decides to give another chance at reuniting with them, and to his surprise the two apologize to him and have learned to share with one another. I have to admit, despite being such minor characters with subtle development, it's really nice to see how they've changed. I maybe would have liked to actually seen this change happen, but that's a nitpick at best--it's still clear that Impmon’s leave triggered said development and I can appreciate that. When they all see the main three Digimon and their Tamers fighting the D-Reaper on TV however, Impmon decides he has to help and promises his two friends he will be back. This leads to Mako giving Impmon a toy gun to "beat the bad guys"--a nice gesture of child innocence. Impmon takes it anyway, but this reconnection with his Tamers not only leads to him Warp Digivolving to Beelzemon, but also allowing a Mode Change to Beelzemon Blast Mode.
This is where Impmon really started to grow on me as probably one of my favorite redemption characters ever. I'm a sucker for the trope, and the way it's executed with Impmon is just really well written and it's given a lot of time and attention to really make this change feel realistic and convincing for the audience. I want to root for him now, whether the protagonists believe in him or not. I want him to follow his newfound convictions and win his battles. I can't believe I've gone from saying "This character is a little shit," to "This character is one of my favorite redemption characters I've ever experienced in any medium." It really goes to show just how powerful and well-executed the whole transition is. From the moment you see his wings sprout and Mako's gun transform with the Mode Change to Beelzemon Blast Mode along with probably the best use of the song EVO, it's hard to deny that Impmon is probably one of the most if not the most developed character in Tamers.
Cutting to the fight on TV, the Tamers find themselves unable to take on the D-Reaper with their Digimon at Ultimate level, so they need to achieve Mega level. However... they can no longer Matrix Digivolve since they're back in the real world and are no longer data. Thankfully Beelzemon does come in to help to defeat one of the D-Reaper Agents, but this isn't the solution to the whole problem. This leads to them being confronted by a strange girl named Alice and her Doberman... Sorry, no, Dobermon (Digimon sure loves making puns with the -mon prefix, don't they?). Fun fact that Dobermon is actually a fan-made Digimon that won a V-Jump contest for original Digimon designs and earned an appearance in the anime. He appears as a messenger from the Four Sovereigns to give the Tamers a special power to allow them to Matrix Digivolve with their partners. But this... requires him to sacrifice himself to give them this power. Come on, a second Digimon dog death!? God, I chose the wrong time to watch this series... Aim straight for the heart, why don't you. I hope the person who designed Dobermon wasn’t too torn to watch the writers kill off their own creation. Anyway, Alice also disappears by the end of the episode, apparently having been dead and was also a granddaughter of one of the members of the Wild Bunch, "Dolphin". Huh, random connections.
So the Tamers and their Digimon are finally able to Matrix Digivolve again and stand a chance against the D-Reaper, but now we see more of the D-Reaper's true colors, and this would probably be a good time for me to talk about how I feel about this antagonist. And as an antagonist, I think it works well. Since it's basically an old security program gone rogue, it's a sort of an AI takeover plot--thinking it's doing the right thing entirely based on logic that all beings are inferior creatures. And that is, technically, the case. The Digimon are capable of easily being erased by merely making contact with the D-Reaper, while humans in general are just flawed creatures.
Things like our emotions and feelings do cause problems, and it makes things way more complicated than for a machine to make a simple deduction. Just as an example, imagine a person having to make the choice of either killing one person or 1,000 people, but the one person was an important individual like a family member or significant other. By emotional attachment, this decision would be much harder to make if even possible. For a machine or program like the D-Reaper, it could easily decide without hesitation that killing a single person over 1,000 is the best decision that would cause the least amount of damage. And for a series like Digimon Tamers which has focused so much on things like the development and the flaws of people and even Digimon, it does work well.
Although I do have to admit, I kind of wish we had an antagonist with a little more... sentience? Personally, an antagonist like Apocalymon fits that kind of role perfectly for me, but I wouldn't have wanted them to do the same thing again either so I do appreciate the variance. Still, I can't help but feel like the D-Reaper's threat level somehow goes down in the real world. Remember how I mentioned it could literally delete Digimon by mere physical contact? Well, the Digimon come in contact with the D-Reaper several times in the real world, with Gallantmon even being dragged inside it, but nothing like that happens to them. No deleting, not even so much as disintegration. I guess being in the real world changes things, but it kind of bothered me and made it feel less threatening than before.
Though, when Gallantmon does get pulled into the D-Reaper, it does separate him back to Takato and Guilmon, but they land in an untouched park area since apparently the D-Reaper hates organic life, as told by Jeri who suddenly shows up. Except... the real Jeri has been gone the whole time, and zombie Jeri was simply an Agent of the D-Reaper, while the D-Reaper has been carrying and using Jeri the whole time since her sorrowful emotions have apparently helped power it. The Nightmare Fuel kicks off even further from here, as fake Jeri goes from being a creepy zombie Jeri to this freaking monster. It's scary just looking at it, but the transformation itself is even more horrifying, and it eventually starts wreaking havoc on Takato's mind and manipulating him with thoughts of Jeri. Thankfully, they're saved by the cutest hero ever MarineAngemon, with what else? KISSES! KISSES OF DEATH! He also heals Sakuyamon with these kisses. Gosh, have I ever told you guys how wonderful and adorable MarineAngemon is? Saving the day with kisses since 2002.
Before Takato and Guilmon are able to return to the battle, things seem hopeless for the rest of the Tamers outside as D-Reaper Agents continue fighting them. That is until a mysterious new Digimon conveniently shows up to save the day for everyone--Justimon! ... Yeah, you guys can already tell who this is supposed to be, right? Who else but freaking Ryo? Yep, Ryo has managed to achieve Matrix Digivolution with Cyberdramon. And thus... I have to talk about the worst of the Mega forms in this series, Justimon. Justimon is just really lame as a Mega form and as a Matrix Digivolution. His design is really boring and uninspired, basically just a really bland Super Sentai-like character with no redeeming qualities. I mean, if they had made him a more dragon-like sort of Kamen Rider character that would have been neat (considering even Cyberdramon was more of a dragon than any of Guilmon's Digivolutions), but he's about as much of a blank slate as could be. There's also no hint of Cyberdramon's presence or personality whatsoever. I mean, I get that Cyberdramon basically had no personality, but Monodramon at least had something that could be worked with. All of the other Mega forms typically focus on the personalities of the Digimon with some occasional input from the Tamers. With Justimon, it's all Ryo, who we all know is as bland as cardboard.
It's obvious that he was just thrown in because the executives wanted an excuse for the writers to use and advertise him more, and that's exactly why Justimon is present. Hell, I only recently realized a huge problem with his existence: How the hell were Ryo and Cyberdramon able to Matrix Digivolve in the real world? Keep in mind, they never even Matrix Digivolved in the Digital World, meaning they just now learned how to do this. The Four Sovereigns solely sent out Dobermon to give the three main Tamers the power to Matrix Digivolve. Ryo got nothing. Not only that, there was no development towards it whatsoever like with the other Tamers. So the short answer? He's Ryo, he can do what he wants. The long answer? The executives demanded it, and the writers either didn't have time to establish a reason or didn't want to bother with one, so they just made it so. But considering how forced Ryo is in this show, I still can't really blame them for just not giving a damn. I mean, considering Ryo never got a Card Slash animation, but Suzie of all characters gets one, you know the showrunners just did not like having this character. Justimon never even gets a Matrix Digovolution animation. He just... shows up, and rarely does anything that meaningful. He's basically always in the backseat and never does anything important--kind of like how he's been the entire show I guess, which really explains everything in the end. For as little as characters like Kazu, Kenta and Suzie do, they still feel more impactful than Ryo ever does.
Okay, so Ryo's not exactly a great character, I think literally the only other thing that actually bores me around the same level on this show would maybe be the Agents of the D-Reaper? Their designs aren't quite as interesting as Digimon designs, and I still kind of wish the Tamers were fighting Digimon. They just feel like a mesh of abstract ideas with not much thought put into them. Maybe that's either the point, or I'm not looking into it deep enough, but most of them have such little screentime that I wouldn't get the chance to really analyze them unless I looked at still frames or official art.
I know I'm ranting here, but I swear there's still a lot of good to Digimon Tamers here. Impmon finds himself working with Calumon a lot in this arc, which is a great irony when you consider how much he picked on him in the beginning and, again, really shows how far his character has come. They work together as Calumon claims to be able to sense Jeri within the D-Reaper, who Impmon does want to try to make up to. Their teamwork is really part of what helps save Jeri, with Calumon able to sense Jeri's presence, Beelzemon being able to break through an invisible barrier containing Jeri, while Calumon is able to get through but Beelzemon ends up captured for a while. Meanwhile, Calumon finds another zombie Jeri, though this is actual Jeri stuck in a trance of sorrow. Seeing Calumon trying to be as supportive of Jeri as possible throughout this arc and basically be like a lending ear and source of encouragement for her shows just how pure and sweet Calumon is.
So now, I can finally talk about Jeri, who I think is probably the most "controversial" character in this series. But honestly? I like her, and I really like and respect her character and the maturity of it. I'm not calling her character herself mature, but rather just how deeply she's written. She could have gone wrong in so, so many ways and she had so much going against her to easily be a bad character in similar ways I feel about early season Kari and Meiko. She could have easily fallen into the Damsel in Distress, the Living MacGuffin and Purity Personified tropes that would have made her an extremely unlikeable character that could have potentially made her even worse than the other two Digimon characters I mentioned earlier. But the execution of her character avoids these easy pitfalls so well and writes her to be an incredibly realistic character that someone in the audience can relate to. Leomon's death triggers serious PTSD of her mother's death, all of which led her to live the philosophy that everything in life is destined and written and it cannot be fought. On top of this, she feels like she's part of this problem, and as humans, it's easy for our despair to lead us to believe that something we have no control over is our fault. It gets to the point that she honestly thinks she's better off dead and even makes a suicide attempt, which really shows just how much she doesn't want to hurt anyone but feels trapped.
This isn't helped by her not-so-good relationship with her father, who does seem like an uncaring asshole from the end of the Digital World arc. But as Digimon Tamers loves teaching its audience, not everything is as it seems. Jeri's father is more of an awkward dad who doesn't really understand how to be a proper dad, likely due to the death of Jeri's mother early on. It doesn't necessarily mean he hates Jeri, because after Takato tells everyone that Jeri is inside the D-Reaper, the man goes out of his way to take action by stealing a vehicle and trying to ram through the D-Reaper with it. It's not that he ever disliked Jeri, but he simply doesn't understand how to express how much he cares about and loves her. And after really understanding what Tamers was trying to do with this situation, it hit close to home since I've had a lot of trouble communicating with and understanding my dad, and he's always been a kind of awkward dad in general. It never made him a terrible father or meant he didn't love me or I didn't love him.
The D-Reaper's indifference and logical mindset really works here, and I can appreciate it's more machine-like nature in how it simply uses whatever it can to throw Jeri further into despair for its own benefit. It utilizes flashbacks of the moment her mother's death, and then turns it up to 11 with some seriously horrifying imagery. It's no wonder she becomes so broken and horrified--How was this show for kids again? Not to mention it tries to use her father's images against her, but now that he's actually standing up to act like a father, the whole plan backfires. Jeri herself isn’t entirely powerless on her own either, as throughout much of her self-reflection she has Calumon trying to cheer her up. And ultimately in the end, she does begin to fight back against the D-Reaper, and she ultimately couldn't have been freed from it nor could have the Tamers and their Digimon been able to bring themselves to defeat the D-Reaper without her trying to break through.
Although... For dub watchers, I can understand why they may not like Jeri because some of the script writing really destroys some of these complexities. What triggers this entire episode with Jeri is Leomon's last words to her, which originally were along the lines of "So this is my fate." This triggered her memories of her mother's death, so not only was she in despair over Leomon, but her own mother, so past memories and pain resurfaced for her. But in the dub... They changed Leomon's last words to "Remember, you have a lion's heart." This isn't just unnecessarily cheesy (coming from someone who likes cheesy things), but it completely ruins the original meaning and can make Jeri's mourning come off as more selfish when Leomon's new words are ones of encouragement to her. In which case, I can understand why more people might find her whiny and be annoyed by her. But for me? I honestly really like her. She doesn't necessarily develop at the same level as some of the other characters like Takato, Henry or Rika, but she's a flawed human being like many of us, and she's a young girl who's still growing up and recovering from some unfortunate events in her life, and I think that makes her a great character. Also, there's some speculation in the fandom that she might be autistic, but there's no official confirmation of this and I am not touching that subject on this website with a ten foot pole despite my own experiences.
Part of this recovery is reconciling with Beelzemon, which is something Beelzemon has to work for himself. And my God, it's so good. This is part of why I love Beelzemon as a redemption character, because he truly has to work for his redemption to Jeri and still works for it knowing she may not even forgive him. After Beelzemon awakens in the D-Reaper and breaks free, he deals with a psychological battle between the D-Reaper and himself as it utilizes the fact that he killed Leomon to upset not only Jeri, but also upsetting Beelzemon for reminding him of his sins. But the fact that he still keeps fighting to save Jeri, knowing he doesn't deserve forgiveness, even when his gun Mako had given him shatters and forces him to fight down to his fists to break Jeri free really shows his desire to help her. Gallantmon even fights alongside him, and eventually Beelzemon breaks the barrier holding Jeri and Calumon by utilizing Leomon's Beast-King Fist, which makes Jeri remember Leomon. But because of this, Jeri is paralyzed with such shock that she doesn't reach out to Beelzemon. This is both an incredibly awesome and badass moment of redemption as well as a tragic one. Beelzemon's determination to save Jeri despite everything against him is honestly inspiring as I've gone on before. But his ability of using Leomon's signature move to save her is, while undeniably a Crowning Moment of Awesome, is a moment of irony as it prevents him from saving her due to his previous actions.
It hurts even more because when the barrier shuts again, he still tries to punch his way through until he's fatally wounded by one of the D-Reaper's Agents, slowly falling as his data disintegrates. This moment actually really got me and is probably one of the most effective fake-out deaths I've seen. Usually, I get extremely mad at these, but the way his redemption was built up only for his attempt to save Jeri to fail does give the impression that maybe he wouldn't be able to earn said redemption and let karma take its course by killing him off. Considering how Tamers really wasn't afraid to kill off characters (except Shibumi I guess), I wasn't entirely sure if the show was going to be willing to spare Beelzemon. Not to mention, for how slow they show his "death", even pushing it to the next episode as a cliffhanger, I was gradually, internally, repeatedly screaming "NO" inside and could feel my heart sinking lower and lower with every second he continued to disappear. Thankfully, Beelzemon is spared and reverts to Impmon, but I honestly do not remember the last time I was so convinced a character could die. Many times I find myself rolling my eyes, questioning what cop-out a show will find to prevent a death or bring a character back to life. None of that happens here, and even though Impmon lives, it's hard to see him reduced so low despite his true efforts. It's such a well-executed set of scenes that it's part of what makes me adore Beelzemon so much as a character. And with how hard he tries to save Jeri, it's no wonder she feels so terrible for being unable to bring herself to reach out to him.
Impmon's savior is one of the more minor but one of my favorite characters in this arc and series. With all that Hypnos and the Wild Bunch have been working on in the background, they've worked on upgrading the Ark that brought the Tamers home from the Digital World. Its communication with Takato and Guilmon wasn't a simple one-off thing, as the Wild Bunch develop and work on him further to make him a steed for Gallantmon--Grani, who's a sort of flying... dragon-horse vehicle whose named after Sigurd's horse from Norse mythology (because HELL YES NORSE MYTHOLOGY IS AWESOME). But Grani helps in multiple battles by giving Gallantmon aerial mobility (something you'd swear he already had from how high he can jump in some shots), making some fights go much smoother as Takato and Guilmon bond with him throughout the few episodes he has, with them even talking to him and thanking him. His sentience is hinted at further throughout the arc, but I'll get to that reveal for the last of the arc.
But after Beelzemon fails to save Jeri, the D-Reaper spreads to the Wild Bunch's HQ and becomes too dangerous for the Tamers and their Digimon to deal with and even they are forced to evacuate. This really makes the whole fight against the D-Reaper feel genuinely hopeless considering the protagonists have to make a full-on retreat--something I can't think of happening in many shows to this degree. It does lead to an interesting bit of continuity with the Battle of Adventurers movie, with Takato's family retreating to Okinawa to see his cousin Kai. Not something the dub watchers of 2002 would have understood, but it's a nice little touch. All hope is lost until the Wild Bunch develops a plan to defeat the D-Reaper while still saving Jeri. It's... too complicated for me to paraphrase, but if you've watched Digimon Tamers then you know how ridiculously in-depth the plan is. Once it's set however, the Tamers say farewell to their families for a final battle against the D-Reaper and go on their mission to save Jeri. With a Red Card developed by the Wild Bunch, the Tamers Card Slash it and can now maintain Matrix Digivolution even when inside the D-Reaper.
This is probably where I should mention one of my other personal problems with the D-Reaper. The last fight... doesn't particularly click with me. It's not really bad, but I was kind of left wanting a little more. This still has to do with me wanting Digimon to fight, the D-Reaper Agents being rather unmemorable to me, and the D-Reaper not having much of its own sentience. The battle is more of a mission than it is a duel of hand-to-hand combat with a specific target, and said mission is to eradicate the D-Reaper and also save Jeri, so I understand why it is the way it is. Still, this doesn't mean the fights with the Agents aren't easy, as Gallantmon eventually falls to the ground only to hear a voice asking "Do you want wings?".
Once again, our savior is Grani! Grani proves his true sentience here, with the ability to talk and make his own thoughts and decisions. This all sadly leads to Grani sacrificing himself, fusing with Gallantmon to allow him to Mode Change into Gallantmon Crimson Mode, giving him more robust, red armor, a new lance and a sword to wield, and of course, has now been given five pairs of radiant white wings. This tears me up knowing Grani ends up being sacrificed after finally talking to Takato and Guilmon, but I don't exaggerate when I say this: Gallantmon Crimson Mode is one of my absolute favorite and one of the best things to come out of Digimon Tamers.
I already talked on and on about why Gallantmon is my favorite Mega form, including because of how well he works for Takato and Guilmon. All of this still applies for both Gallantmon and Gallantmon Crimson Mode. But I do remember one thing I thought of when I saw Gallantmon was "Man, the only thing that could make him even better was if he had wings!” So they gave him wings. And let me tell you, the moment I heard Grani ask Gallantmon "Do you want wings?" I literally was ready to jump off the couch, screaming "YES! YES! YES! YES!". If Gallantmon is perfect, Gallantmon Crimson Mode is absolutely perfect. I literally have nothing to complain about with this Digimon. Its design, its concept, its abilities and its debut... literally the only thing I would complain about is the sacrifice of Grani, but I am glad Grani's sacrifice went to probably one of my favorite things in Digimon, period.
With the entrance of Gallantmon Crimson Mode, he destroys one of the Agents that frees Jeri out of her depression. The rest of the Tamers and their Digimon destroy the D-Reaper, and Guilmon and Takato separate as Takato is thrown into the air to catch Jeri and Calumon (in what I admit is a really sweet shot). And thus, finally the world is at peace. The Tamers can rest with their Digimon from all of the fighting and are able to all reconcile with each other. ... Oh wait, this is Digimon Tamers, where we hate happy endings.
In short, the plan to defeat the D-Reaper known as "Operation: Doodlebug" utilized part of Yamaki's Shaggai program, meaning the Digimon will be forced back into the Digital World, or else they'll disappear just like the D-Reaper. Henry's father is forced to approach all of the Tamers, including Impmon with Ai and Mako, and explain the situation to them as all of the Digimon are regressed to their In-Training forms in order to be small enough to return to the Digital World (except for Calumon and MarineAngemon). Seeing each of the Tamers having to give a tearful goodbye to their Digimon--especially when they're all in heart-crushingly adorable forms--is extremely heartbreaking and did bring me to tears. So yes, the one time I get to see my precious and wonderful Gigimon is at the very end to break my heart. It hurts especially hearing Gigimon ask Takato to promise that they'll see each other again, which Takato agrees to. But honestly? It really shows just how much these two in particular have grown--the boy who once protected the juvenile Guilmon to an unhealthy degree is willing to make a promise with his friend he has grown with to meet again. The use of 3 Primary Colors here is much more effective, while sort of random and out of place earlier in the series, it's so much more meaningful here and listening to it again gets me teary-eyed even now.
This scene is especially hurtful when Henry's father apologizes over and over, knowing there's nothing he could do to make up for this separation between the Tamers and their Digimon. Henry, however, just shakes his head--indicating he has already forgiven his father. It's honestly a really strong and mature message, one about forgiveness and acceptance that's pretty deep for kids but one that should definitely be told. However, this is another thing the dub decided to tweak the script with that hurts the original message. In the dub, Henry's father apologizes but insists that things will get better over time, with Henry shaking his head in response. This completely changes the context of the original message, and it just comes across as cruel. Not only does it feel like Henry’s father is basically dismissing the pain of the Tamers, but Henry shaking his head in response is basically like him saying he can't forgive him for what's happened. It may seem like a nitpick here, but it really is an important part of the original story that gets changed for no good reason.
After a timeskip however, everyone's lives are seemingly back to normal with Digimon no longer in the picture. That is until Takato one day goes by Guilmon's hideout, checking inside to find a portal to the Digital World--giving hope that he may be able to see his Digimon once more. And this is where Digimon Tamers ends.
I would by lying if I didn’t say that when I first watched this ending, I felt a bit of Mood Whiplash. It's great to see the Tamers finally find some peace after the events of the D-Reaper, though I guess to be expecting a happy ending from Digimon Tamers might seem naïve of me. At the same time though, the whole reveal of the Digimon having to return to the Digital World is a little sudden. I'm not saying it doesn't work, as it is an effective sucker punch that hits hard. But at the same time, it comes and goes a little too fast for me. Personally, I would have preferred a little more development with the goodbyes like in Digimon Adventure, but I wouldn't have wanted them to have carbon copy endings either. So I guess a sucker punch bittersweet ending makes more sense for the kind of tone Digimon Tamers has in comparison. At the same time, suddenly resolving the issue with this goodbye by showing a Digital World portal right at the end kind of hurts the impact of such a bittersweet ending.
However, I heard there was a bit of executive meddling in this regard. From what I understand, the network--presumably Fuji Television--was against the producers ending the show with a downer ending, so they asked for it to be lightened up. Hence, the flashforward with the Digital World portal. I can understand the thought behind this, and it would be pretty hard on some kids, but from a story-telling standpoint I do think it hurts some of the impact. Not enough to ruin the ending, but enough to notice how softened up it is. I also heard that the producers decided, in response, to make a drama CD that would have reflected their original ending with the Tamers sending a message to their Digimon in the Digital World. I have not listened to it, so I don't know what exactly happens, but I do know it's pretty sad.
So to make some final closure, I absolutely adore Digimon Tamers. I know a lot of Digimon fans agree it's the best anime series of the bunch, but for me? I'm... not really sure. While I will admit that compared to Digimon Adventure, it's generally more coherently written with a lot more complexities in mind, and overall has better technique. But at the same time, there are some elements of Digimon Adventure that I like more than I do about Digimon Tamers--a certain charm that can't be replicated. This does not make Digimon Adventure better, but it doesn't make Digimon Tamers better either. Personally, I think I love both on an equal level. They both have their own merits and reasons to enjoy them, and a few of their own issues as well. They have a different cast with their own appeal, different Digimon that are loveable in their own ways, and different universes that just work differently. Some people either love or criticize Digimon Tamers for being darker, and while I could feel it is darker in tone I never felt that it was forced. It felt natural enough for me to enjoy it without it feeling jarring, disturbing, or have me rolling my eyes thinking this was Digimon's attempt to be "cool". Digimon was already pretty cool from the start, so having a different tone like Tamers that was noticeably darker but still had enough heartwarming moments made it feel just right. It's fun, it's charming, it's thoughtful, it has depth, it's even scary at times, but it's also just awesome... even if it's filled to the brim with tearjerkers.
But... I'm not done with Digimon Tamers yet, because apparently the showrunners wanted to do more--with another movie.

Hey I don't think I was clear in my past message, will we get specific character routes for the choose your own adventure zombie thing? Like right now we're on 707s route and after this one is done maybe start from the beginning and choose a different path? Or will the choices u gave us at the beginning be considered "bad endings"? Sorry I'm confused.

Well, in reality, I’m not sure. Later on in the story, there will probably be a choice between a few characters to end up with, so he may not even end up with him (also because Jaehee had one point less than him in the beginning I don’t want to lock it in now that he’ll be it, but it might be??).
So, yes. There will be a specific character route, probably.
Also, I’ll probably go back and do another (or maybe 2 more depending on how busy I am and if I really want to) route, and maybe make some of the unpicked choices into bad endings. For example, I’d probably go back and make another route out of the 1st choice where MC goes to Jaehee because she was the 2nd most requested, and I’d also make a bad ending where she went to Rika’s apartment or looked for Yoosung because those were the most dangerous choices.
