going back to my point comparing Eurovision to food writing in its capacity to help Israel whitewash atrocities and present itself as lively, peaceful, pluralistic, and cultured, check out this 1979 article that makes my point for me:

Israel has witnessed a number of "firsts" lately. The first peace treaty was signed with an Arab country, Israel hosted the Eurovision song contest for the first time for 19 European contestants and, for the second year in a row, won first place. One month ago, the first native-born (Sabra) Israeli was appointed by Hilton International as chef of a Hilton hotel. [...] As part of the Eurovision festivities, the Hilton Hotel hosted what was to be a reception after the telecast [...]. After Israel won first place, it became a victory party [...]. Chef Brueh and his staff worked three days preparing all kosher dishes for the 19 countries participating.

The author of the article (Sybil Zimmerman) appends six recipes: hummus, falafel, pita, eggplant salad, tchina [sic], and Turkish coffee. What's odd is that Chef Brueh doesn't serve any of these dishes at the Hotel... the author seems to have felt compelled to add "Israeli recipes" that glommed more with their idea of what "Israeli cuisine" was than Brueh's "avocado soup" did

Disappointing Hanukkah display incoming. Although I must admit I’m surprised this particular grocery store had anything Jewish/kosher given that it’s not Pesach.

Ah yes, Chanukah, known for Matzah and pickles. At least there's some Chanukah products on the top shelf? Also if you like tchina get that tchina while it's on sale, it lasts a long time and it's great.

Falafel-chan in Pita bread

When I got the Gijinka quest on Canvas Tutor for the third time, I was compelled to draw Falafel-chan again. I didn't quite have the time to color her until now, though.

So today I decided to focus on that instead of doing the daily quest. After a month and a half of not missing a day, it's time to take that game down a notch. From now on, I'll only do Canvas Tutor quests if I have nothing else planned.

If anyone wants a mascot for a Falafel joint, I'm willing to talk business. :P

I have no idea considering I don't really like any condiments except Tchina haha....

If it's like....a little bit left from a take-out order, just throw it out if you know you're not gonna eat it. If it's in one of those little sealed packets, keep it in your kitchen junk drawer, you never when you might need it. And if it's a lot, maybe think of a dish you can make to use it. If not, it's not the end of the world if you have to throw it away.

I know the struggle, both OCD and cultural anxiety about Bal Tashchit make it very hard for me to throw out food, even if it's no longer edible. But if you know you're not gonna use it and it's served you its purpose, it's only a health risk to save it and let it spoil in your fridge or whatever.

Italy's Muslim community, like others, suffered many deaths as the coronavirus pandemic hit the Mediterranean country hard. Imams and Muslim community leaders are now calling for more Islamic cemeteries, or additional space in the country's existing graveyards, as the faithful increasingly want to be buried in Italy, their home.
