Agreed, but Genesis isn't effectively "bullying" Sephiroth until later on when he's severely warped and manipulated by the degradation process.

Him and Sephiroth being competitive towards each other does not equate to Genesis being a bully. It means that Genesis has ambitions and takes them VERY seriously. It also means that he's probably trying to inflate himself into being a worthy adversary. But as far as I can tell, he's not saying things that are specifically designed to hurt Sephiroth emotionally. Sephiroth doesn't CARE about being a hero. He OFFERS it to Genesis. Also, and this is going to sound very basic, but Genesis being cocky and arrogant while sparring is kind of the norm of how competitive guys often banter with each other. Dumb? Definitely. But it's true. What does Sephiroth do after Genesis challenges him for the role of hero? Basically roll his eyes good naturedly like "lol sure Genesis come fight me then". They're egging each other on as COMPETITIVE BANTER, not bullying. Sephiroth and Genesis are being dumb young adult men teasing each other, until the situation escalates and things take a sudden serious turn. Don't forget that Seph was inches away from legitimately hurting Genesis as well. Hell, in the original storyboard of the scene, he DID.

Now when Genesis starts verbally attacking Sephiroth later on after the degradation takes hold, the line begins to blur. Because Genesis' bitterness is tangible and real there, but the degradation process canonically twists a person's mind and emotions, thus making Genesis the worst version of himself. He intentionally uses methods designed to emotionally hurt Sephiroth, but his motives and emotions are far more questionable here because he also simultaneously sought to integrate Sephiroth (and Angeal) as well.

I don't condone bullying. I've faced bullying almost my entire life. Hell, the experiences I faced have left some pretty irreparable scars, scars that will never heal. But this ain't it, chief. It's just Genesis being.... Genesis.

However, despite his belief he is naturally inclined to lead and therefore is the best possible person to control everything, he is also absolute dogshit at actually administering his holdings and doing the basic day-to-day business required to maintain more permanent control over the territories he invades. Unless he’s motivated to stay put and hold course by a powerful grudge, he’s often moving on to the next, more exciting challenge once he’s finished his business in a location, which often involves physically leaving and abandoning whichever poor patsies he’s appointed to look after things in his absence to fend for themselves. This is why all the kingdoms he’s ever built according to his personal vision of how the world ought to be collapse into dust immediately after he dies.

Getting this man to do paperwork will get you the same response as trying to force him to chew broken glass, which is why he will always be defeated unless he eventually develops the good sense to appoint either a whole cabinet or a single reasonably competent secretary to do all the boring stuff for him.

random tf2 thought but I am once again wishing we got that expiration date show even if just so that we could see more of the merc’s real personalities. Like that video of Spy’s Rally that ended up being cut from meet the spy - that shit is FIRE. And it really is in line with the comics and expiration date in portraying Spy as a sort of charismatic speaker/team leader who can in fact comprehend working in a group.

In the games we mainly see a very adrenaline-fueled, hostile side of the mercs where they’re just screaming at the enemy team in the middle of battle But like. Spy’s speeches are fire, y’know? Something that I see often on the revalink tag here is hate for revalink under the ship's tag- which is messed up.

I get it if you don't like revalink, if its not your thing, but leave that shit out of our tag. We're all out here just trying to enjoy a ship that doesn't deserve hate.

I have issues with Sidlink, but I'm not about to go tagging that in this post or if I ever made a post about my issues about it.
