Finished design for the Eastern Serix, which I made using the Fundamentals Of Creature Design book. I really recommend picking it up if you want to really challenge yourself on really researching and having several passes at creating fictional creatures and really thinking about how and where it would live, feed, walk/swim/fly, breed, sleep. Really useful stuff to practice and full of great examples and references.

I wanted a tree dwelling hunter, so i tried to combine traits from a Fossa, Emerald Tree Boa, and a created gecko, I also threw in some inspiration from lemurs and frilled lizards.

The Eastern Serix is nocturnal and hunts mice and small birds, it uses its long, bristly tail to suspend its body from branches and releases when it wants to drop onto unsuspecting prey below. It then wraps its tail around them and the bristly fur stands on end and sticks into the prey, holding in place like thousands of tiny needles. It is then able to unhinge its jaw and swallow prey whole. The striped fur along its neck can be extended to form a frill to scare off predators.

Do you know why green tree pythons do the coily thing?

This thing? It's just a really great way to balance on skinny branches when you're a long snake. It also has a bonus of helping them blend in well with vines and other foliage! GTPs like to live high up in trees, so they need to balance wissely so they won't fall or break branches when they curl up!

In a wonderful example of convergent evolution that proves it's just a good way to sit on skinny branches - emerald tree boas, despite being from a different family and living across the world, have a similar environment and like to curl up in the same way.

And it's not a position unique to them, either! Just about any snake might use a similar position when they need to curl up somewhere high. It's a great way of balancing weight to help a snake feel safe and comfortable on skinny or tall branches.

Snake!Janus except it's actual snake things and he's cold-blooded and doesn't love and sees in Infrared.

Patton cooking them meals and everyone thinks Janus is sick or something cause he only eats every Friday and then sleeps the next two days

They don't let him do laundry because he just lays on the warm clothes, but they do keep the curtains open during the day

He always gives the sides blankets when they're cold or turns on a fan when they're warm without them telling him and it takes them forever to figure out how he knows

Just because he can't love them doesn't mean he doesn't feel safe or comfortable around them and he regrets ever telling them that

Link for everyone - it's a video of a bright blue green tree python.

Green tree pythons can be blue, but this video looks to have the saturation pumped up and is taking advantage of the lighting to make this snake look very blue.

A GTP this blue is extremely rare, and in imperfect lighting you can see they still have a green tinge, especially near the head.

Most blue GTPs look closer to this.

The blue is caused by structural coloration - that's when tiny structures on the snake's scales cause them to look like a certain color. Snakes don't really have a blue pigment, but most snakes who are green are actually mostly yellow pigment and blue structural coloration!

To get blue GTPs, breeders select for snakes with more of that structural coloration and tone down the yellow a bit. Because green snakes rely on blue structural coloration to look green, many green snakes will have blue color phases!
