Making the trip to Martha’s Vineyard was an annual thing for the Boston ladies. Victoria, Sienna, Aurora, Jackie and Kyra couldn’t get enough of the place.
And they were so excited that they picked a quiet day to go. The May sun was shining, they all had the day off work and best of all, the kids hadn’t broken up yet for the summer holidays.
“If only we had a boat!” Jackie said as she climbed out the car.
“Someone could afford it on her diagnostics team leaders salary.” Aurora looked at Victoria.
“Or Doctor Hottie’s salary. That man must be in the six figures surely.” Kyra laughed.
“A woman never tells. And by the way, we share an account so it’s not just his money.” Victoria chuckled, grabbing the bags out the back of the car.
“You shouldn’t be carrying that!” Sienna swatted Victoria’s hand away. “Let us do that.”
“I can carry something. I want to help.”
“Ethan gave us strict instructions to not let you carry anything heavy.” Aurora said.
“Yeah and I don’t want to be on the receiving end of Ethan’s bad mood. I get that enough at work.” Jackie chuckled.
“At least if you do go into labour you’ve got people who know what to do around you.” Kyra shrugged.
“Not today though. Today is all about having fun.” Jackie said putting her sunglasses on.
The girls headed to the beach and set up in a spot, it took more than one person to fold the chair out for Victoria, she found it highly amusing.
She sat down and pulled out her magazine as the others hit the water, running towards the waves at a fast speed. Victoria wished she could join them in the water but she thought she’d be safer on the sand. One day she thought. Maybe with her two little ones.
She felt a flutter of kicks and rubbed her belly with a smile. “You two are very energetic today, just like your aunties. I hope you’re going to run towards the ocean as fast as them one day.”
Victoria smiled as she watched her friends splash about in the water. They were so excited when they found out Ethan and Victoria were expecting a baby and even more excited when they found out it was twins.
“Are you comfortable?” Sienna asked as she made her way over to Victoria.
“Yeah, I’ve got my magazine, the sun is shining. What’s not to like?” Victoria laughed.
Sienna sat down on the blanket they had laid out. “We just promised Ethan we’d look after you. He seemed a little nervous, especially as you are expecting twins.”
“Double the worry eh? I understand. It’s a lot. But I appreciate everyone looking out for me. For us.” Victoria rubbed her belly. “We are lucky.”
“Time for drinks!” Kyra grinned as her, Aurora and Jackie made their way out of the water.
“I’ll happily take the non-alcoholic version of a mimosa.” Victoria laughed.
“So just regular orange juice?” Jackie chuckled.
“4 months until I can go back to them.” Victoria grinned.
Aurora handed Victoria a glass. “I love how you’re counting down.”
“It’s been on my calendar since the day I found out.” Victoria laughed.
“I think it has been for some of us too.” Sienna said.
“Well that’s something to toast to!” Kyra held up her glass. “To the Ramsey twins!”
“The Ramsey twins!” The ladies clinked glasses.
There was so much to look forward to, the ladies couldn’t wait.

Map: Exploring the World by Victoria Clarke
Tumblr media
Read time: 2 Days Rating: 4/5 Stars
The Quote: There are many different kinds of map. Part science, part artistic design, the map as a concept is complex and ever changing, encompassing a range of different forms of graphic expression and display. — John Hessler
Most of this review will just be a list of my favourite maps or notable inclusions and some interesting quotes. Honestly, this is a hard book to review purely because it is what it says on the tin, a collection of maps. Let's all be very honest here Map is a book for a particular kind of person. There are a number of fields that may find it of interest but for most people, it is just something that would not appeal. Some groups of people I think this might appeal to, the obvious is those with an amateur interest in cartography (ie the intended audience), those with an interest in anthropology, potentially art fans, or those looking to fill a reading prompt. It is an appealing coffee table book though, there are some really nice and unusual pairs of illustrations that you are likely to find anywhere else. Of the categories I listed I'm actually the anthropology (though I am using it for a prompt too).
To give you an idea of the layout of the book. For the most part, the maps are presented in sets of two. Each set is tied by having a similar topic, style or theme, though very few have similar colour themes. In most cases, the maps were created decades or longer apart. Each map is captioned by the title, year of creation and artist/ cartographer on one line. The second line has the materials it's made of and on, its dimensions and where it is currently housed. Under this is an approximately 200-word write-up on the map, its importance and the creator. I was reading this at night and found it to be quite like watching a match of tennis or test cricket (sometimes at least). Just one more game, just one more over or in this case just one more page. I found it to be quite a calming read. That said there are quite a lot of random facts I didn't know. Like where Brazil got its name from, a tree.
From here the review just devolves into a list of maps and quotes.
Olafur Eliasson's real-time neon light Daylight Map is the first one that made me this I have to mention this
City of Anarchy by Adolfo Arranz is a brilliant cutaway of Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong
1247s A Map of the Stars by Wang Zhiyuan is stunning
Survival Map 1992-1996 (The Siege of Sarajevo) is such a dichotomy. It is a brightly coloured beautiful thing for a very dark time in human history.
Willamette River, Oregon by Daniel Coe is a gorgeous map and the colouring is fantastic.
Map of Days is a wonderful idea for a self-portrait by Grayson Perry.
Mapping the Brain by the Human Genome Project is a whole other way to present the human brain and I want it on my wall
The embossed Map of Maine is gorgeous and I want to such it.
The interactive Iceland Illustrated is a fantastic
In 1989 the-then American Cartographic Association recommended that rectangular projections should not be used at all for general-purpose world maps, but Peters' contention that we should scrutinize the way we predict the world remains valid. (p.156)
I have never seen the Upside Down World Map and I live in Australia.
I really like A Map of Vesuvius. It is a good way to show the impact of a lava flow.
“Few rulers have had as much reason to fear their enemies as King Henry VIII" — (p.176) Truer words have never been spoken.
Carta Marina is so stunningly detailed. I wish I could see it in all its in-person glory
Chicago, USA is just a smart piece of design work
Any given place holds an infinite number of things that can be mapped. An individual neighbourhood has streets and houses and parks - all of which we might expect to see on a map. But it also has power lines and Christmas lights and sounds and graffiti and people with their own aspirations and all this can be shown cartographically if we simply take the time to collect the information." — (p. 193)
This isn't the first map I've seen of Mecca but it is probably my favourite, its the colouring
Serio-Comic War Map for the Year 1877 by Frederick W. Rose is humorous.
"named Bom Bahia (good bay) by the Portuguese, Bombay was ceded by Portugal to Englan as part of Catherine of Braganza's dowry when she married Charles II of England in 1661" — (p.226) How did I not know this? I mean I'm not surprised it was all to do with marriage and dowries but I didn't know
Locals and Tourists by Eric Fischer is a wonderful project idea. I'd love to see it done in other cities. Also, I like the colour choices.
The Earth Seen Through the Sphere of the Stars by Andreas Cellarius is so pretty and so intricate it looks like it belongs on a ceiling somewhere.
2MASS Redshift Survey by John Hurchra, Thomas Jarrett and others I also want on my wall. It's mapping light wavelengths look it's pretty ok.
The Court Game of Geography c. 1840-3 by W. & H. Rock is a fantastic deck of cards and I want it. I would love to see the whole deck, the book only has one suit (hearts, Europe). Honestly, I think we could use this again now.

The Finale: Sondheim! The Birthday Concert
At long last, someone has uploaded the full Stephen Sondheim 80th Birthday Concert in 1080p so that we can worship properly. You too can watch it at the link above.
Tumblr media
Sondheim celebrated his 80th birthday at Lincoln Center with a truly jaw-dropping cast of Broadway legends on March 15 and 16 in 2010. Though he would go on to celebrate many more birthdays, no other event would ever be more sublime than this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directed by Lonny Price, conducted by Paul Gemingnani, and hosted by David Hyde Pierce, the event featured Karen Olivo, Alexander Gemignani, Jason Danieley, Victoria Clark, Nathan Gunn, John McMartin, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason, Jim Walton, Mandy Patinkin, George Hearn, Michael Cerveris, Laura Benanti, all accompanied by the New York Philharmonic.
Tumblr media
And as a grand finale, the Ladies in Red: Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, Donna Murphy, and Marin Mazzie, all Sondheim leading ladies who gave one iconic performance after another.

My name is Victoria Winters. They whisper an old story again up in Collinsport, a tragedy rinsed and repeat: a husband that vanished from his bride, and a young woman interred up on the hill. If you ask the bridal-suite widow she will weave you a tale too fantastical to believe: she will tell you that the young man abandoned her into the past itself, into a former self, and another life. You’ll find that this is the closest thing to the truth for anyone looking for it, as even the sheriff –– try though he might to pin down yet another whiff of sin about the Collins estate ––  can unearth no trace of him. It is as if he never existed at all, even his name soaked in the oil of myth and packed away into aluminum. There are only the flowers over an old, old grave to tell; silent, knowing, nitrogen-glutted.
An au where instead of Jeff getting pulled back to the 18th century, Victoria kills him <3 Because you aren't really a Collins if your spouse doesn't disappear under mysterious circumstances and you have to cover up a killing or two! Second half of the comic text is from Black Sails XIV.

Blue Beetle: Graduation Day (2022) #6
My name is Jaime Reyes. I’m kind of a superhero. I grew up somewhere special, with a family that loved and supported me through all sorts of tough times. It was somewhere that made me the hero I am today. I live in the city now, but it’s starting to grow on me. New friends, a new job… New adventures! What was supposed to be a “gap year” has turned into something much different. A calling. I found people who need me. I found a purpose. Things are getting real weird, but I don’t mind one bit. For me and my life, weird is part of the package. For the first time in a long time, I’m excited about the future. The possibilities. And whatever comes my way, I’ll be ready. It won’t be easy, but we’ll figure it out. Together. After all, I’m the Blue Beetle! I totally have this under control.

October MC of the Month: Victoria Diana Clarke
Tumblr media
Please welcome October 2023's MC of the month! Each month, we will highlight one MC or OC that is currently on our Meet My MC / OC List. The MC / OC is selected randomly on the Wheel of Names, and eligibility requirements can be found here. We accept MC / OC profiles on an ongoing basis. Please feel free to send yours in!
This month’s MC of the month is…
@potionsprefect's Victoria Diana Clarke!
In your own words, tell us what you like most about your MC / OC.
I love how kind Victoria is. She always sees the best in people and is determined to make a difference in the world.
Do you feel your MC / OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?
We’re both very career driven and always strive to do our best. Victoria will never settle for anything less and I like to think I’m the same as well.
What is most important to your MC / OC? What is their motivation in life?
Victoria values family and friends greatly. She likes to surround herself with people who make her happy and will do her best to make them proud in any way she can.
What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?
Victoria dislikes people who are rude for no reason. As a Doctor, she understands the frustrations of people who come to the hospital but she draws the line at rudeness. That is something she will not tolerate.
If your MC / OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?
Victoria would tell herself to be more adventurous. Almost everyday at the hospital, she gets reminded that life can be short so she always tells herself to do something worthwhile
What is your MC / OC’s favorite quote or song?
“If you can dream it, you can do it.” ―Walt Disney. This quote motivated Victoria throughout Med School.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MC / OC?
I’ve always wanted an MC who fights for what is right and does her best in everything she does, and that is exactly what I’ve created with Victoria. I love how caring and kind she is and how she wants to be the best Doctor she can be for her patients.

Sometimes i think about how Jack's mother is Stevie who was married to Conrad whose son is Daniel whose mother is Victoria whose daughter is Charlotte whose father is David whose daughter is Amanda Clarke aka Emily Thorne. And how the two people Jack married went by both Amanda and Emily, one of whom had his child and the other was the godmother.
Also the two people Emily married
were kinda sorta stepbrothers because both of their mothers were married to Conrad
were both with Margaux at some point and one of them fathered her child
the same one she shared a sibling with, and
said sibling almost had a child with the half-sibling of Emily's other husband.
You know, such a fun family tree.

WHAT?!?!?????!!!
Listen, if Victor dies, I will be devastated. Absolutely torn apart. Ruined.
I’m hoping this means all that drama in his life is over and he can have a happy little life with Mitch and his adopted daughter Sydney. Maybe visiting Eli in jail in the weekends for date night.
