Philippa of England, Queen of Norway, Denmark and Sweden
Philippa of England was the youngest daughter and last child of Henry of Lancaster and Mary de Bohun, Earl and Countess of Derby, and was born on, or shortly before, 1 July 1394, when her mother died from complications in childbirth. Little is known of Philippa’s early childhood but when her father usurped the throne in 1399, becoming Henry IV, her future changed dramatically. No longer the youngest daughter of an earl, she was now a princess.
The new king almost immediately began searching for marriage alliances for his two daughters. 1401 saw Henry enter into marriage negotiations with Margrete of Denmark for Philippa to marry Margrete’s adoptive son and heir, Erik of Pomerania. Like Henry, Margrete was hoping for an alliance to strengthen her domestic position and that of the fledgling Kalmar Union of Norway, Denmark and Sweden. It wasn’t until 1405 that the marriage was formally agreed upon and in December, Philippa was proclaimed Queen of Norway, Denmark and Sweden. In August 1406, the 12-year-old Philippa sailed from England in August 1406. She married Erik at the cathedral of Lund, and her coronation soon followed. Famously, Philippa is the first documented European princess to wear white at her wedding.
She spent the next three years at Kalmar Castle in Sweden, the first year under the guidance of Katarina Knutsdotter (the granddaughter of Saint Birgitta of Sweden), and probably owing in no small part to her youth, Philippa remained in the sidelines of rule until Margrete’s death in 1412. She retained close ties to Sweden, serving as Erik’s de facto regent there, and was the only queen of the Kalmar Union to ever achieve popularity in Sweden. Of particular note is her patronage of Vadstenna Abbey, the motherhouse of the Bridgettine Order. She often stayed there when in Sweden, was a generous patron, and petitioned the pope multiple times on the Order's behalf, even enlisting the support of her brother, Henry V of England. In 1425, Philippa donated a choir dedicated to St. Anne, where she was later buried. This may have had particular significance for Philippa, as she had no surviving children..
Philippa was deeply involved in the rule of all three kingdoms of the Kalmar Union. In 1420, demonstrating Erik’s trust in her, it was decided that she would serve as regent to his heir, Bogislaw of Pomerania, should the marriage remain childless, and her widow’s pension would effectively give her a ‘queendom’ in Sweden. In 1423, Erik went on pilgrimage and Philippa served as his regent, with all power that entailed, until his return in 1425. She also obtained the resources and support Erik needed for his war against the Hanseatic League. Indeed, it was Philippa who organised the defence of Copenhagen against the bombardment of the Hanseatic League in 1428 to great acclaim.
In late 1429, Philippa, apparently in good health, travelled to Sweden to secure further support for the war against the Hanseatic League. She was staying in Vadstena Abbey when she fell seriously ill and died on the night of 5 and 6 January 1430, possibly following a stillbirth. Philippa was remembered almost universally favourably, a reputation that was surely deserved.

Startling Detective Yearbook 1966
Tumblr media
Startling Detective Yearbook 1966, Vol 1, No 4
Blood Bath for a Baby-Sitter by Stanley Churchill - a babysitter is brutally stabbed with a bayonet
Rape and Murder Ends a Pep Pill Binge - A hairdresser on bennies kidnaps a couple teenagers in Dallas, raping and killing one, tormenting the other until he passed out and she escaped. Sentenced to death, but was commuted when the Supreme Court temporarily overturned the death penalty in 1972. The killer was alive as of at least 2019 and is still registered as a sex offender at his nursing home.
Bluebeard's Wife - Historical quickie of a career criminal who buried several people under cement
Cold Corpse in a Hot Car by Lawrence Gardner - capri pant wearing wife and her ex-con lover kill her doting husband
Love Had a Bitter Taste by Andre Connor
Heavily padded tale of an elderly arsenic wielding black widow.
Blue-Eyed Blonde Under the Bridge by Hal White
Multiple killings of women in Montana, though only one conviction is mentioned. An internet check shows the rest were unsolved as of a few years later.
Riddle of the Twisted Love Triangle by Keith Ramsey
A woman steps out, separates from her husband who promptly moves in with her lover. Hubby disappears while her boyfriend is shot to death by cops after a robbery.
When it Snows, It's Murder by Harold Edwards
A killer hires a teenage girl as a babysitter, posing as a client.
I Had To Kill by Ace Bushnell
Door to door salesman turned killer. Creepy detailed confession.
Murdered Teacher at Battle Mountain by D.L. Champion
A woman is killed after her car runs out of gas. The killer had a failed appeal, had his last parole hearing in 2009 and is now deceased.
None of the cases are particularly compelling, many of them invented narrative devices like internal monologues or details only known to the dead, and each story is compelled to describe the victims as attractive, or at least shapely, at every opportunity.

Bucky Barnes Aka The Winter Soldier.
Tumblr media
This reading guide is going to be split up in several parts depending on what alias he was using at the time
Timely Comics
Timely Comics was the original name a lot of Bucky's first comics were published under when most of the original comics came out. These have mostly been retconned out However they are canon in the way that they are comics in universe. I call this Pre-Timely Retcon
During this time Bucky was around 12-16 years old and he was going by "Bucky."
Please be aware that these comics have a lot of racist, sexist and overall derogatory approach to people who aren't cis white straight men.
Captain America Vol 1 (At least the first issue)
Young Allies Vol 1 (This comic contains heavy use of black face to represent an African American character)
The Invaders Vol 1
The Avengers #56
Marvels #1
Personally I don't think you absolutely have to read these, but I recommend the ones in bold .
Bucky
Post-Timely Retcon, the Timely comics are now comics in canon. What age Bucky is depends on what comic you read. He's between 12-16 when he meets Steve and 16-20 when he dies. It depends on the writer.
Captain America 65th Anniversary Special #1
Avengers/Invaders*
Young Allies Comics 70th Anniversary Special **
Wolverine Origins #17, 18, 19, 20,
Captain America: Man Out of Time
Captain America & Bucky #620-#628***
Captain America White
*This comic is very weird in its treatment of Jewish characters, they give Robots serial numbers on their wrist to get Jim Hammond upset and equate that to the treatment of Jewish people in the holocaust
** This comic contains heavy use of black face to represent an African American character
*** this comic shows depictions of a concentration camp
Winter Soldier
Captain America Vol 5
Winter Soldier : Winter Kills
Wolverine (2003) #38-#40
Wolverine Origins #15, 16, 23, 25
Winter Soldier: The Bitter March
-Read Captain America section here if you want to be chronological
Winter Soldier (2012)
All-New Invaders
Black Widow (2014)
Winter Soldier (2018)
Invaders (2019)
Captain America
Captain America Vol 5
Captain America: Forever Allies*
Avengers/Invaders
Invaders Now!
Fear Itself
* This comic contains heavy use of black face to represent an African American character
Hopefully this helps anyone looking into reading Bucky! I love him he's one of my favourites. Some of the comics may overlap being good reading for him as Bucky/Winter Soldier/Cap but I've tried to make it easy to get into!
Here are a list of other comics that I don't think are important but could help with further reading:
The Marvels Project - Good to lean about the Golden age heroes! Tales of Suspense (2017) - Personally I don't like this one but for WinterHawk shippers this is the main one!
The Unstoppable Wasp
Strikeforce - It's fun!
Devil's Reign: Winter Soldier - Not a personal fav, I don't like the new "He was always planned to be Winter soldier, even before his birth" but if you like it, this is a good place to start.
Young Avengers Presents - Important Bucky interacting with younger heroes

I'm not gonna complain about a certain ship but I wanna complain about it. Not because I want to dictate what people do but because I'm sick to death of the same patterns every single time you have specific characters in play. Every.Single.Time. I know if roles were reversed it wouldn't be happening like this. I'd bet my savings account on it. (I'm also more genuinely frustrated this time around than I have been the many times in the past because for one character it's literally ignoring their relationship to the only people that have been shown to care, love and want to prioritize them in some way after something terrible happened. The two most important relationships for them)
REAL
also shoutout to @starmora who so helpfully pointed out to me that after just 1 year after vol 1's release (so aug 2015), the starmora ao3 tag only had a little over 90 fics. less than a month after the vol 3 release and less than a year after all the post-endgame media featuring both nebula and peter has released, their ao3 tag already has almost half the number of fics that starmora had after a full 12 months, and arguably starmora had a lot more actual canon basis throughout vol 1...like ppl have truly lost the plot here
i'm trying to think of all the potential contexts that could explain the differences in how long it took each ship to achieve the numbers of fics it's gotten...ao3 was definitely pretty commonly used in mcu fandom by 2014/2015, and other ships with far less basis in mcu canon had tooooons of fics back then as well (any ship involving loki, darcy, or bucky comes to mind lmaooo)
so it's a bit suspicious that this is happening to a canon interracial ship where the woc died, as if the natural progression from that is the woc's white sister dating the woc's white male widow. like, ermmm...
then take into account fandom's age-old tendency to erase woc characters and, well, i think we can just do the mental math on this one, unfortunately 🙃

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
September 8th - The White Fox
Ami Han is the last of the Kumiho, a mystical shapeshifting nine-tailed fox.  Korean fables told of these Kumiho and how they seduced unsuspecting men so to  tear out their hearts and eat them. Ami’s grandmother was a Kumiho who fell in love with the man that helped her uncover her humanity.
Ami was raised by her mother, who taught her how to hunt and turn into a Kumiho, advising her to hide her true form from the others. Her mother was later killed by a  Samjokgu, monstrous three-legged dogs who hunted the Kumihos until their near-extinction.
Years later, Ami, a high schooler living with her uncle and aunt, befriended a girl whose father owed money to a  dangerous Seoul gang called the Yongsan Brothers. When the gang kidnapped Ami's friend, Ami came to rescue, defeating the gang and its leader, a Samjoksu. Afterwards, Ami was invited by The National Intelligence Service to join the agency.  She accepted and ultimately matriculated to the point where she is the director of this agency.  Simultaneously, Ami has also led the NIS’ superhuman response team, Tiger Division, under the superheroic alter-ego of the White Fox.
The White Fox was involved in the Contest of Champions event and later fought alongside the Agents of Atlas during the War of Realms event.  More recently, White Fox has joined forces with Black Widow in an effort to stop the villainous Taskmaster.
White Fox first appeared in the pages of Contest of Champions Vol. 2 #1 (2015).

Reading Resolution: “My Brother’s Husband, Vol. 1″ by Gengoroh Tagame
17. A graphic novel: My Brother’s Husband, Vol. 1 by Gengoroh Tagame
Tumblr media
List Progress: 13/30
There is something so lovely about emotionally intelligent stories. The first volume of the manga My Brother’s Husband is all about a complicated relationship and a lot of twisted, snarled emotions, but author Gengoroh Tagame deals with them deftly, including a lot of shades of gray. Queer stories can often fall into “all angst” or “all fluff”, but My Brother’s Husband threads the needle of the intersection between the two, finding the joy and the pain that is part of every life, but especially queer ones.
Single father Yaichi has not spoken to his identical twin brother Ryoji in ten years, when said brother unexpectedly dies. Ryoji’s newly-widowed husband, a white Canadian named Mike, has traveled to Japan to learn more about his husband’s home and family of origin, but that is only made up of the estranged Yaichi and his young daughter Kana, who didn’t even know she had an uncle. Mike knew Ryoji better and more recently than Yaichi, and they are often clearly talking past each other when remembering the departed. But Kana is coming in clean: she is learning that men can marry men, that she has more family than she had thought, and that the world is a complicated place. Kana’s exuberance and innocence keeps the tone of the manga light, but it also serves a vital role in Yaichi’s journey. When he has to articulate why he is uncomfortable with Mike and Ryoji’s relationship and the life they led, he discovers things about himself that he had never investigated before. He didn’t shun his brother when he came out, but there was a coldness and distance there that never faded.
It is hard to determine depth in an ongoing series, but the only slight criticism in the first volume is that Mike is a bit too good; an inoffensive teddy bear of a man, so that the only objections Yaichi can have are based in homophobia or culture clash. But even then, Mike is never neutered and desexualized. A lot of that is down to the art style, as Tagame is one of the biggest names in erotic and BDSM manga, and while My Brother’s Husband is for all ages, the interest in the muscular male body is very clear.
The first volume of My Brother’s Husband serves as a great hook into the series, an emotionally deft story about finding family in the midst of tragedy. If the rest of the series is as strong as this first installment, there is a lot to recommend.
Would I Recommend It: Very much so.

In the John Wayne/John Ford team-up 3 Godfathers based on Peter B. Kyne's 1913 novel, which had already been screen adapted several time before, including one by Ford himself. Here we have three desperados Bob Hightower (John Wayne, The Shootist), Pete (Pedro Armendáriz, Fort Apache) and The Abilene Kid (Harry Carey Jr., Rio Grande) ride into Welcome, Arizona to rob the bank. They make their escape on horseback but Pete is shot and wounded in the process, and Sheriff Buck Sweet (Ward Bond, Rio Bravo) manages to shoot a hole in their water bag leaving them without water to quench their thirst. Now wandering the desert looking for water and the keen sheriff always one step ahead of them, keeping them from nearby water supplies. They become lost during a sandstorm and losing their horses the trio end-up at a dried-up watering hole where they  they come upon a covered wagon, inside is the Sheriff's niece in labor with a child. They aid her in giving birth, but she dies from complications of birthing, but not before she name the baby  "Robert William Pedro Hightower" after the names of the men, making them promise to save her baby, and naming the godfathers of the child, which they out to do, but when the Sheriff discovers his daughter's death he blames in on the three desperados. This is a wonderful Technicolor  shot western with a terrific cast, the Death Valley backdrop is stunning, especially during the windstorm scenes that look fantastic in restored HD. The restoration looks fantastic, extras include a beautifully restored version of MGM's earlier black and white version Three Godfathers (1936), directed by Richard Boleslavski and starring Chester Morris and Lewis Stone, plus Trailers for both film. I love having the earlier version on here as well, it makes for an interesting contrast and compare as the earlier version is much grimmer, with the Bob character played by Morris being a cutthroat killer, and heavier on the religious analogy, and it's also beautifully shot, making this a fantastic double-feature.
Special Features:
- Three Godfathers (1936) (80:59) (1080p HD 1.33:1, DTS-HD MA 2.0 Dual Mono with Optional English Subtitles)

Director: George Roy Hill
Cast: Diane Keaton, Yorgo Voyagis, Klaus Kinski, Sami Frey
In this overstuffed thriller Diane Keaton (Annie Hall) stars as Charlie, an American stage actress working in Europe is recruited by Israeli Intelligence agency Mossad to go undercover to track down a Palestinian terrorist Khalil (Sami Frey, Black Widow) who is targeting high-profile Jews. Directed by George Roy Hill (Funny Farm) and adapted from the 1983 novel of the same name by John le Carré this cloak and dagger thriller also features Klaus Kinski (Aguirre, the Wrath of God) as Israeli spymaster Martin Kurtz, Yorgo Voyagis as spy Joseph who seduces and recruits Charlie, pulling her into a web of lies that ends up with her acting a double-agent being taken to Beirut to train at a terrorist camp before being send on assignment by Khalil to assassinate a Jewish professor. The film takes us to London, Munich, Athens, Jerusalem and Beirut , there's a menagerie of characters that float in and out that make it a bit difficult to stay focused on the main plot. Also not helping is that the film is so overstuffed that character motivations are merely sketches, I never did quite figure out how a pro-Palestinian anti-Zionist left-wing actress was successfully recruited by Israeli intelligence to their cause, let alone to seduce and kill for them. Needless to say, in these current times this is an interesting premise that might get some attention now that its making it;s HD debut, but I doubt it will generate much conversation in that it feels so muddled and muted. This is one that I had never seen nor heard of until it was announced, coming from the director of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Funny Farm and The World According to Garp, I was curious about it, but did not end up loving it, even Kinski seems subdued unmotivated this time around, and you could usually count on madman Kinski to deliver the goods, but like everyone else he seems to be struggling with the material. The Blu-ray from Warner Archive is handsomely restored and filmic with uncompressed audio, the only extras is a Trailer.
Special Features:
- Original Theatrical Trailer (1:49)
THEY DRIVE BY NIGHT (1940)
Labe: Warner Archive
Region Code: Region Free
Rating: Unrated
Duration: 95 Minutes

Director: Raoul Walsh
Cast: George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Gale Page, Alan Hale, Roscoe Carns
Amidst the Great Depression independent truckers Joe and Paul Fabrini are barely making ends meet, and at the start of the film are three payments behind on their rig. Paul (Humphrey Bogart, The Maltese Falcon) dreams of spending more time with his wife, and holding down a corporate gig with steady hours and pay, while and Joe (George Raft, Scarface) has his eye on becoming a trucking bigwig someday. At a diner Joe encounters red-haired Cassie Hartley (Ann Sheridan, Angels with Dirty Faces), who is easy on the eyes and quick-witted, they start a relationship and shortly after Paul loses an arm in an accident after he falls asleep at the wheel. Joe ends up accepting a managerial job working for a trucking outfit run by Ed Carlson (Alan Hale Sr.) but finds himself ducking come-on by the guy's wife Lana Carlson (Ida Lupino, The Big Knife), who is straight-up troub le from her first second on screen.  Tired of her drunken husband she murders him and offers Joe a 50% stake in the company, with strings attached, 'natch. However, when Joe announces he's getting married she confesses to the crime, but she's gonna take Joe with her! Joe of her husband's murder in this hard-edged, classic drama directed by Raoul Walsh (High Sierra) starts off as an engrossing wildcat trucker melodrama and evolves into a damn fine noir-tinged thriller with Ida Lupino stealing the show as the increasingly unhinged Mrs. Carlson. Bogart is also terrific, but he plates third fiddle after Lupino's femme fatale and stand-up guy Raft, maybe even fourth after the wisecracking Sheridan who is fantastic as well, but he has presence to spare, and it's not surprise that he went onto Hollywood icon status not long after. The Blu-ray from Warner Archive looks impressive in HD, not a blemish to squint at anywhere, solid grayscale and largely filmlike. Extras include a Lux Radio Theater Broadcast starring George Raft and Lana Turner; a 11-min featurette with historians Leonard Maltin, Eric Lax, and Robert Osborne waxing nostalgic; a vintage 19-min musical-comedy short, plus the trailer.
Special Features:
- Lux Radio Theater Broadcast with George Raft and Lana Turner (6/2/41) (44:22)
- Featurette: Divided Highway - The Story of They Drive By Night (10:35)
- Vintage WB Short SWINGTIME IN THE MOVIES (1938) (19:09)
- Original Theatrical Trailer (1:51)
STAND AND DELIVER (1984)
Label: Warner Archive
Region Code: Region-Free

Duration: 103 Minutes 33 Seconds

Video: 1080p HD Widescreen (1.85:1)
Director: Ramon Menendez
Cast: Edward James Olmos, Lou Diamond Phillips, Rosana De Soto, Andy Garcia, Ingrid Oliu, Vanessa Marquez,  Estelle Harris
The based-on-a-true-story drama Stand and Deliver (1988) is directed by Ramón Menéndez (Money For Nothing), and stars Edward James Olmos (Blade Runner) as Jaime 'Kemo' Escalante, a quirky teacher at a East Los Angeles inner-city high school where the students routinely under perform academically. When he learns that the school accreditation is on the line he sets the goal of having his kids not only learn calculus but to have them ace the Advanced Placement Calculus by their senior year. The unruly kids are initially reluctant and difficult to reign in, but he wins them over through his oddball and unconventional ways of teaching. This is one of those feel good inspirational movies that while largely embellished and dramatized for cinematic effect is was quite an enjoyable watch when I saw it on cable numerous times as a teen, if a bit trite when pitted against reality these days. That's not to say their are not teachers out there who go above and beyond for their kids, there absolutely are and I was lucky to had a few myself, but this is just a bit too saccharine and overly dramatized to ever hot on an emotional level for me, especially now as a jaded adult, this feels like a Hollywood fairytale more than anything resembling reality. The film also stars Lou Diamond Phillips (Supernova) as a gang member who initially gives Kemo hassles, other actors playing students include Ingrid Oliu (Hellhole), and the late Vanessa Marquez (Maniac Cop III: Badge of Silence), plus keep an eye out for Estelle Harris (George's mom from Seinfeld!) as a the principal's secretary and Andy Garcia (Geostorm) who plays an agent from  the Educational Testing Service who show up to investigate how a group of poor inner-city kids could do so well, suspecting cheating has transpired.  That said, this was/is a popular movie, hard to believe it's only now debuting on Blu-ray thanks to the Warner Archive, who do a terrific job restoring it for it's Blu-ray debut.

THE BOOB (1926) & WHY BE GOOD? (1929) SILENT CLASSICS DOUBLE-FEATURE
Label: Warner Archive
Region Code: Region-Free
Rating: Unrated
Duration: 60 Minutes 15 Seconds (The Boob) / 81 Minutes 22 Seconds (Why Be Good?)
Audio: DTS-HD MA 2.0 Dual-Mono
Video: B&W 1080p HD Fullscreen (1.33:1)
Director: William A. Wellman & William A. Seiter
Cast: Gertrude Olmstead, George K. Arthur, Joan Crawford, Charles Murray, Colleen Moore
In The Boob (1926) simple country boy Peter Good (George K. Arthur), the titular boob. is crestfallen when his former gal Amy (Gertrude Olmsted) becomes infatuated by city dandy Harry Benson (Antonio D’Algy). His friend Cactus Jim comes up with a plan to win her back by dressing up Peter in a poor-fitting cowboy outfit and arming him with a six-shooter, so he can round-up some alleged bootleggers, ti impress her. Also around are Peter's pal  Ham Bunn and his faithful dog Benzine, the latter of whom actually provides most the this flick's entertainment. The plot involves Peter storming a local club The Booklovers, an alleged book-themed speakeasy. It turns out that Benson is a bootlegger, and we also get an early appearance from Joan Crawford (Strait-Jacket) as an undercover prohibition agent. The silent-era sight gags and comedy are a tad uninspired, but the slapstick shenanigans are not without charm.  An early film from director William A. Wellman (Westward the Women) didn;t exactly set my eyeballs on fire but still an interesting comedy surio of the silent era.
The second half of this silent era double-feature is WHy be Good? (1929) wherein wide-eyed star Colleen Moore (The Scarlett Letter) plays vivacious jazz-era flapper Pert Kelly, who is a good girl who works at a department store, but loves to dance in the trendy flapper fashions, have a good time, and enter dance competitions, much to the chagrin of her father who feel the lifestyle is immoral. After a night on the town she meets Winthrop Peabody Jr (Neil Hamilton, Commissioner Gordon from the 60's Batman TV show!) and hit it off bigtime, but it turns out he's the son of her employer which creates complications at the workplace when it is revealed  that he is the new personnel manager at the store, but that his father had forbade him to date the staff. This one has more substance that The Boob, a good mix of melodrama and comedy, some fantastic dancing sequences, but it's Olmstead who singularly steals the show here, such a cutey, as her virtue is put to the test by Winthrop. Both flicks looks stellar with handsome restorations that are quite stunning for these nearly century old films, the latter shows some scratches and both of brief moments of wonky contrast but otherwise these look marvelous. The Boob is a silent film, but we do get a fun piano score by Arthur Barrow that was added to the film in 2003, and Why Be Good? which is a sound-comedy features the original Vitaphone soundtrack with musical score,  sound effects and synchronized singing, though no other audible dialogue. The Vitaphone soundtrack is nicely restored but does have a light layer of hiss, but never rising to the level of distraction.  No extras for this silent-era double-feature but seeing these nearly 100 year-old comedies get loving restorations is treat enough for me.

I am used to Warner Archive unearthing flicks from the 30's through the 6o's that are new to me, but it's pretty rare that I see them bring a 90's flick to Blu-ray that I have never heard of previously, as is the case with this Bret Ratner (Rush Hour) directed action-comedy starring Chris Tucker (The Fifth Element) as Franklin Hatchett, a fast-talking small time car wash hustler in L.A. who gets busted after the meddling of tabloid TV reporter James Russell (Charlie Sheen, The Boys Next Door). On a prison bound bus Franklin is seated next to French criminal Raymond Villard (Gerard Ismael, The Last Romantic Lover) when his crew attack the transport, in the bloody aftermath Franklin is wrongfully accused of killing cops, he manages to escape with his life but seeks out the help of news reporter Russell, and both end up wrongfully accused and on the run from the law and Villard and his henchmen. If you're a fan of Rush Hour this certainly falls into that sweet spot of urban action-comedy, we have a straight man, the annoying antics of Tucker, and plenty of L.A. scenery. There's also a stellar cast here, we have both Paul Gleason (Sixteen Candles) and Daniel Roebuck (Dudes) as detectives, Heather Locklear (The Return of Swamp Thing)  as James fiancé, Elise Neal (Mission To Mars) as Paula Franklin's pregger girlfriends, plus Paul Sorvino (The Stuff) and Veronica Cartwright (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) as James's soon to be in-laws. Super breezy, action-packed and slickly made, this was a fun 90's action-comedy that delivered everything I expected, car chases, shoot outs, explosions galore, and snappy banter between the leads. The new scan looks terrific with excellent depth and clarity, color reproduction pleases with lots of punchy highlights, and the uncompressed audio is solid. The only extras is a Trailer, which is a bummer, but otherwise a top-notch A/V presentation for an underserved flick.

Daredevil (vol. 1) #112: Death of a Nation?
Read Date: May 31, 2023 Cover Date: August 1974 ● Writer: Steve Gerber ● Penciler: Gene Colan ● Inker: Frank Giacoia ● Colorist: Petra Goldberg ● Letterer: Annette Kawecki ● Editor: Roy Thomas ●
Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● I can’t wait until we get a decent protagonist again. I mean, Nekra and Mandrill aren't awful, but… I don't really feel any investment in them. okay, they are kind of awful. ● and even bring Karen back, because I do. not. care. about Candace Nelson ● comic books set me up for disappointment regarding the number of airships I thought I'd see in my lifetime
Tumblr media
● so he didn't mean to kill Mandrill… but they rigged the airship to explode knowing there was a skeleton crew still onboard… argh ● ah, no body. which means Mandrill might return someday (boo) ● but we have a different return coming up next issue: The Gladiator! (yaaaay!) ● 👏👏
Synopsis: As Daredevil climbs up into the Black Spectre's blimp he watches in horror as it's minions succeed in knocking down the communications tower on the Empire State Building, sending it crashing to the ground. As he climbs up the rope ladder he is attacked by Nekra, however he manages to slip past her and get inside the blimp where he is immediately attacked by the Mandrill. However, Daredevil is ambushed by Nekra, who lands a knock-out blow that puts Daredevil under. Mandrill orders that Daredevil be tied up with Shanna the She-Devil and orders his minions to set a course for Washington D.C. As the blimp flies off, Foggy Nelson calls the authorities for help, however the military, Avengers and Fantastic Four are pressed down due to the fact that the Mandrill has stated that he has planted an a-bomb under Manhattan and will detonate it if anyone acts against him and nobody wants to call his bluff.
As the blimp nears the Washington capital, Mandrill leaves Shanna and Daredevil under the super-vision of the Black Widow. Lowering a giant effigy of himself on the White House lawn, Mandrill and his minions easily take it over and with the threat of the a-bomb under New York, the Mandrill is offered no resistance as he enters the White House and goes to sit in the Oval Office.
While back in the blimp, Daredevil manages to snap Black Widow out of the Mandrill's control by having her remember the old woman that they rescued from being mugged during Christmas Eve. The powerful memory snaps her out of Mandrill's trance and she frees Daredevil and Shanna. They rig the blimp to explode and then go down to the White House to put and end to the Mandrill's mad scheme.
As Black Widow and Shanna battle Nekra, Daredevil fights Mandrill alone, their fight taking them to the roof of the White House. There, the blimp finally explodes sending Mandrill into an attacking frenzy and Daredevil is forced to send Mandrill falling off the roof headfirst to his seeming death. Unable to look, Daredevil checks to see the women to see that they have both defeated Nekra, who was distracted by the explosion long enough for them to defeat her. When they go outside to check on the Mandrill's body, they find that it is missing, leaving Daredevil to wonder when the Mandrill will threaten mankind again.
