A low humming sound filled the air as Evelyn put away the last of her files, having gone through them already. They were the files for the Team's most recent case. And Evelyn was of course, in charge of putting them away. One of her minor duties as part of the BAU Team along with being assistant techie. A position that hadn't been randomly made up by her mentor. Stepping out of the room and locking the door behind her, she very nearly bumped into the figure that was rushing by. Rather she did bump into them and instantly started to apologize.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see where I was-"
"Evelyn? What're you doing down here?" The red head blinked, finally catching on who she'd bumped into.
"Spencer?" Her instant reaction was curiosity as she stared at her team member, trying to figure out what was new with him. Spencer stared back at her quizzically and questioningly, raising an eyebrow at her. Realization dawned and the red head grinned.
"You got a hair cut!" Instantly his hand went up to run his fingers through his hair, a nervous habit, Evelyn had noted long ago. "Yeah, I figured it was time to get a new look." The genius replied with a shrug. "So what're you doing here?" He asked, coming back to his previous question.
"I had to box away a few files." She responded with a small smile. "It is part of my job to clean after you guys." She added with a teasing tone, prompting him to smile back at her. Blue eyes flickered to his newly cut hair.
And unable to resist Evelyn reached out to gently run her fingers through the ends of his hair, having pushed herself up to the toes of her shoes so she could reach easily. The position pressed her a little close to him, but neither of them seemed to notice as she smiled at him. "I like it. You look cute."
Cute.
She'd just called him cute!
As if the realization of her words just hit her, Evelyn stepped back, cheeks flushing, a nervous smile playing at her lips as she avoided Spencer's gaze who only looked back at her which she found more cuter then his haircut. Like that of a confused puppy. The red head however did make the mistake of looking at him, and instantly regretted it as her heart sped up and her voice reached new levels of high pitch as she quickly managed to squeak out a goodbye before dashing past him, leaving a slightly confused Spencer, who was confused by her behavior to say the least, yet none the less pleased at her words.
Evelyn for her part avoided Spencer for the entire day.
Of course they were both back to discussing(arguing) over a new theory the very next day.
Though Evelyn still felt that strange warmth in her cheeks any time their eyes would accidentally meet and she would be reminded of the little run in a few days ago.
So embarrassing!
                                              ————————–
JJ traced the tip of her finger along the rim of her coffee mug. She was sitting on a stool in a little café a few miles from the office and was waiting for Evelyn to show up. Said red head was making her way towards her friend, holding her own coffee mug and setting it on the small table between them, before hoping onto the stool as well. Outside rain splattered against the glass window of the café, the coldness of it seeping through the window, one that both women felt, yet neither minded. They had their coffees to help keep them warm.
"So how did the assignment go?" JJ asked, once she'd taken a small sip of her beverage.
Evelyn gave a small nod. "It went well. And that is all I can tell you." She said with a slightly pointed look to which JJ chuckled.
"Right! Top secret, I know." The red head gave a low chuckle, before taking a sip of her own drink, frowning as the steam from the coffee fogged up her glasses. Handing her friend a tissue with a smile of sympathy she watched as she wiped the glasses clean.
"So what was it you wanted to tell me?" JJ asked. Evelyn sighed before reaching into her bag and pulling out a magazine from her bag and placing it in front of the blonde. JJ pulled the magazine closer, frowning at the bold title that greeted her in big bold letters.
NEW YORK SOCIALITE EXPECTING.
"After five years of marriage." JJ glanced up at the red head sitting across from her, who had her lips pursed as she stared at the image of the smiling woman on the cover. Along with a man, who was obviously her husband, going by the way they had their arms wrapped around each other. JJ bit her bottom lip before she sighed and reached out to lay a hand atop Evelyn's in a gentle grip.
"I've tried everything I could JJ. But she still refuses to listen to me. Even Gideon has tried to help but she's just so stubborn." Evelyn sounded almost heartbroken as she spoke, finally raising her eyes to meet JJ's gaze.
"I don't know what I did to her JJ, but I wish there was some way I could find out." Her friend sighed.
"I know you're trying Evelyn, but sometimes one person's effort isn't enough. The other party has to put in some effort as well." The younger woman sighed before nodding. "I know, but I was just hoping if I did my best it would get something out of her."
Her gaze, which she now focused on JJ was desperate and hopeless. "Why are people so hard to figure out JJ?" The other woman sighed and shook her head, squeezing the hand she held.
"It's a good thing that we have the BAU then isn't it?" The small joke prompted a smile out of Evelyn. "I wish I could ask their help but I don't want this turning into a professional thing. Its why I've only ever talked to Gideon about it. Penelope doesn't know either, and she's my mentor."
JJ frowned. "Then why tell me?" Blue eyes blinked as they caught JJ's. "Because you asked." The response had a wry smile pulling at JJ's lips, which had Evelyn smiling back and shaking her head.
"I don't know JJ. I'm still surprised I even told you about all of it. But I'm glad I did. It doesn't seem as much of a burden as it did before." JJ smiled at the response. "And I will gladly help wherever and whenever I can."
The smile she was given, sent a surge of affection and protectiveness through the older woman. She understood what Morgan had meant when she spoke to him about Evelyn. There was something so….pure about the red head that a person wanted nothing more then to protect her. Or as Penelope said, wrap her up in a bubble sheet and store her away someplace safe.
"Now! On to other topics, is there anyone you're seeing these days?" The groan of dismal she was rewarded prompted her to laugh loudly, one which Evelyn joined in soon after.
                                              ————————–
Morgan suddenly slammed his file shut a thought occurring to him. The motion caused Penelope to look away from her screen and frown at him. "What?" The blonde asked. Though he turned his head towards her, his eyes were still trained towards the floor, though they were unseeing.
"Have you ever realized that Reid and Evelyn have the same glass frames?" Penelope looked taken aback at the question. She opened her mouth to say something but then closed it as Morgan finally met her gaze and raised an eyebrow as if questioning her.
"Coincidence?" The blonde suggested, looking and feeling uncertain.
"More like unconscious retention?" The confused look had him explaining further. "Basically he picked them out unconsciously because he's seen Evelyn wear them all the time." Penelope frowned. "He sees me wearing glasses all the time." Her hand raised to touch the side of her own glasses which were a bright orange that day. Morgan nodded.
"Yeah, but you change them all the time. Evelyn never did." Penelope sighed before shrugging and turning back to her computers.
"Unconscious retention it is then." She muttered under her breath before starting to type away on her keyboard. Morgan went back to his own files, pushing the observation to the back of his head.
                                              ————————–
Cupping her hands around the paper cup she watched it scrunch between her fingers. It was more out of worry and sadness then anything else.
"I take it you heard." Evelyn glanced up just in time to see Gideon take Spencer's unaccompanied desk chair and turn it towards her. The red head shrugged.
"More like saw." Both their gaze turned towards the desk that had been previously taken by Elle. It was completely clear now.
"Its for the best." Evelyn's gaze snapped to look at Gideon. "She knew she couldn't handle the pressure any longer." She only nodded in agreement her face grim.
"Still, doesn't make it any easier does it?" Her superior shook his head at her question.
"Leaving is never easy. Neither is letting go." At that he gave her a slightly pointed look which she countered with a sad smile.
"No. Its never easy."
                                              ————————–
Hotch glanced up from where he had been signing up the last of his papers to see his wife enter the bullpen. Pushing Jack's pram in front of her. He frowned. Hailey was meant to take Jack to her mother's for the night so that the two of them could go on a date. Quickly standing up he met his wife midway as she walked to his office. "Hailey? Is everything alright?" He asked, once he'd greeted her hello and smiled at his son who made delighted sounds at the sight of his father.
His wife nodded. "Yes, only my mom won't be able to look after Jack for the night. She has a cold, and Jack might catch it." Hotch sighed at the news, looking disappointed. "Great, now what?" He grumbled to which his wife shrugged helplessly. "I called the babysitter, but she's out too." The night was getting better and better with each second.
"Agent Hotch! I managed to scrounge up those reports you asked for. Who in their right mind would file them under X instead of Y when clearly it's a Z and-oh hello Mrs Hotchner! I didn't see you there! Is everything alright?" The woman only ever came when there was something going on, and for a minute Evelyn's heart stopped out of terror. But then restarted once the older woman smiled at her.
"Everything is fine Evelyn. Aaron and I just hit a bit of a snag, since we can't go on our date." The red head frowned, even as Hotch pursed his lips, thinking of the reservations that he would have to cancel.
"Oh? Why is that?" Seemingly catching sight of Jack the red head was quick to move forward and wave at the baby, who seemed fixated on Evelyn's hair. "No babysitter." At the answer Evelyn shrugged.
"I can look after him for a few hours. I used to babysit around the neighborhood when I was a teen."
And that was how Evelyn found herself holding a baby in one arm, the other holding up two baby bags. She turned her head to look at Jack who was looking right back with a fistful of her hair in his chubby fingers.
"That went well didn't it?" The baby only responded with a giggle before proceeding to pull at her hair, making her wince.
                                              ————————–
For once the Team had the chance to eat together in their little conference room. Chinese take out boxes were set atop the table while they all assembled chairs around it. "I love take out with you guys. Its always so much fun." Penelope said with a grin as she settled into her chair and reached for her box.
"Hey, where're the other three?" Morgan asked, glancing up from his box of chicken. Spencer shrugged through his mouthful of rice. JJ answered for him.
"Gideon had someplace to go, Hotch had a dinner date with Hailey, and Evelyn is-"
"And this is where your Daddy and the rest of the Team are briefed about the cases." The four of them stared as Evelyn entered the room with an inquisitive baby Jack, staring around with wide eyes. The woman holding him looked as if she'd been through some kind of storm that had knocked her glasses askew and her hair to be completely frizzy and her pony tail lopsided and barely holding up.
"Look Jack! Dinner! Excellent! Because I am starving!" So saying she dropped into a chair, and started to drop the two baby bags that were weighing her down onto the floor.
"Jesus! How much stuff does one baby need?" She grumbled to herself as she held Jack around the waist, having set him down on her thigh. The baby had his head turned to look up at her. Evelyn met his gaze and the two had an intense stare down. Which was broken when Evelyn made a face and the baby giggled loudly.
Morgan smirked. "Pint-size? Mind explaining what you're doing with Hotch's kid?" He asked the question that was on everyone's mind. Evelyn grunted as she picked up one of the bags and placed it on the table, doing her best to use only one hand while her other was occupied with keeping Jack secure.
"Babysitting Morgan. Something I happen to be good at. And Spencer? Help a girl out. I can't make his formula without some help." She'd already taken out the thermos with the water and the bottle which already had the formula in it. Jack was starting to fuss so she quickly stood up and cradling the baby to her chest starting to walk around while bouncing him a little. Spencer quickly stood up to do Evelyn's bidding, pouring the water into the bottle. JJ met Penelope's gaze and the two of them smiled at the sight of Spencer standing in front of Evelyn with the bottle in hand. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"Did you check the temperature of the bottle?" Spencer frowned. "No." The two of them were oblivious to the other three members of their team looking at them.
Evelyn sighed. "All those random facts and you didn't read about babies? Honestly Spence, what're you going to do when a case calls for a random baby fact?" She asked, her tone dry, wincing slightly as Jack pulled at her hair yet again.
"Just squeeze a bit out on your arm. If it burns, obviously we wouldn't give it to him." Rolling his eyes Spencer sighed before moving to unbutton his cuff and pulling up the sleeve. A few seconds later, little Jack was greedily drinking from his bottle while Evelyn cradled him, slowly walking around.
"Why don't you sit down honey?" Penelope said, pulling a chair next to her, if only to coo at the baby. Evelyn shook her head. "Can't. Hailey said he likes to drink while walking around."
"So much fuss over a baby." Spencer grumbled as he munched on a piece of carrot, prompting Evelyn to glare at him. "Oh, and aren't you particular about your eating habits Dr. Reid." She only ever called him that when she was especially ticked off. And Morgan had to say, seeing Evelyn jump to defend Jack was hilarious. Especially when Spencer pursed his lips in response, licking them before speaking.
"Aren't you?" The words had the red head glaring at him even more. "I'm not the one calling a baby out on his eating habits." Morgan laughed loudly. "Alright you two. Reid, leave them alone." The man chided earning a look of triumph from Evelyn who turned her attention back to the baby.
"Spencer is just being mean Jack, don't mind him." Of course, Spencer had to ruin her little bubble.
"I doubt he understands you Evelyn." This time it was JJ who chuckled reaching out to pat his shoulder in a reassuring manner. "Let it go Reid. I know you're jealous, but you'll have Evelyn's undivided attention soon enough." The words only reached Reid's ears who turned to stare at his friend, cheeks flushed and mouth agape.
"Why would I be jealous?" He managed to say quietly, despite having the urge to shout the words in surprise. JJ only gave him an amused look before she turned her attention back to her food. Reid glanced at Evelyn, who was now setting the baby on the floor after spreading a small blanket and placing his various toys around him to play with while sneaking in bites of food for herself here and there. "I was just teasing Spence." The blonde beside him spoke up, knowing he would most likely beat himself black and blue trying to find out why JJ would think he was jealous, when he wasn't.
After eating the four of them left to finish up their tasks for the night. While getting ready to go home, Spencer realized he'd forgotten his bag in the conference room. Quickly walking in he very nearly missed the sight of Evelyn and Jack on the floor. Jack was sound asleep, laid out on his back, one hand still clutching his toy. Evelyn was curled around the baby in what Spencer could only describe as a protective manner. She was asleep as well, her hair falling over her face, her glasses placed beside her head. She'd shed her cardigan to drape it over Jack so he wouldn't get cold and she was on the floor while Jack was on the blanket.
Spencer didn't know how long he stood there. Simply watching the two of them sleep. It was strange how the simple sight of Evelyn sleeping so peacefully had him feeling peaceful and somewhat calm. The notion had him frowning in confusion, yet he still didn't walk away. Not until Hotch arrived with his wife after their night out and the scene was disturbed by Hailey waking up Evelyn. At Hotch's questioning look he simply held up his bag and left without glancing at Evelyn, trying to ignore the flush on his cheeks and the calmness that stayed with him every time he'd think of his red haired friend.

Doctor Who, The Process Of Healing From Trauma, and Me: A Text Post Essay No One Asked For
Back in 2006ish, when I first started watching Doctor Who as a teenager in late high school/early college, it captivated me mind, body, and soul. I ate that early 2000s, broody-complex-hero shit up.
I loved that the Doctor grappled with the guilt and regret from some truly fucked up shit he did, and I loved that he gave the middle finger to it by going on wild, ridiculous-special-effects-ed adventures instead of attempting the mortifying ordeal of opening up about it.
I'm sure, judging by how popular the 2005 version of the show became, a lot of my generation felt similar. 9/11 hadn’t been that long ago. We were coming of age and starting to sense that the world kind of sucked major ass, and perhaps the older generations had been super lying to us about most things this whole time.
As such, Rose Tyler was living the dream as far as I was concerned. Abandoning her place in this bullshit society to go help people and save lives with someone who never settled, who always ran towards the darkness, who found ways to laugh and dance in it even…Rose's lifestyle was goals.
Not only did the Ninth and Tenth Doctor's struggle to opening up about what they'd been through or forgive themselves for it not bother teen me at all, I preferred it. It was understandable and relatable. I wasn't ready to actually look at and deal with any of my own problems either, I just didn't want to pretend like I had none. Admitting there's a problem is the first step, and that's where Nine, Ten, Rose, and me all hung out and had fun.
Rose’s "death" was when I started to feel differently. It wasn't that I didn't still enjoy the show - I kept watching through Martha and Donna's seasons, and also a little bit into Eleven's run - but it wasn't the same. I could never quite get over the loss of Rose, or how the Doctor chose to get over it by doing what he always did - ignore and repress.
It had been much easier to watch the Doctor do this with trauma when I didn't know much about what he'd been through, but every time he avoided the topic of Rose, or minimized who she was, it pissed me off. It felt bad to watch him do that to the memory of someone who mattered.
I was starting to realize that just admitting you had problems wasn't sustainable. I couldn't stay on that first step indefinitely, and Doctor Who didn't feel like it was my show anymore, which was fine. After all, it's a family-friendly series. An episode on intergalactic talk therapy is not going to be a hit with the kids.
I was off to have the one adventure the Doctor never could - to understand and manage my own mental health. Learning about psychology, learning about trauma, going to therapy. I processed, I surprised myself, I found new stories to obsess over that resonated with a different, older version of me.
Whenever I popped back into Doctor Who, it felt more nostalgic than anything else. It reminded me of how I used to feel, and how far I'd come. I had that bittersweet feeling of wishing I could connect with it the way I used to, but being grateful that the reason I couldn't was a positive, therapeutic one.
And then…the 60th Anniversary Specials.
David Tennant didn’t even do anything that different in his performance, and he admits as much in interviews. Trying to replicate what he did as the Tenth wouldn't make sense because he isn't the Tenth, and trying to do something completely new wouldn't make sense because then why bring back David at all?
He just played the role as an actor who's lived 10 more years since the last time he played the role, and brother that shit hit me hard.
All the natural, subtle, perhaps subconscious changes in him made me feel the weight of slightly too many years passing. Despite knowing I am relatively young, l’m at a point in my life where I, for the first time, feel old.
Gray hairs and smile lines that were only on the faces of grownups are now on the faces of me and my friends. I know I don't know it all, and also realize I know even less than I thought I did. Love feels deeper, loss feels heavier. I'm compelled to express feelings of gratitude and affection I used to always keep to myself. Oh, is that who I am now?
I love that the Doctor's body didn't just go back to Ten's face, but to an aged version of Ten's face. A version that would align with the aged version of Donna's. I know this was not a creative choice, it was literally just what David and Catherine look like now, but how perfect for time itself to play a role in the story, too.
I love that the Doctor, at last, had to catch up with what his body was telling him. To notice his feelings and learn what those feelings meant. Like the title of one of my favorite (and extremely relevant to this this post) books says, the body keeps the score.
And I loved the bi-generation.
I loved that Fourteen made the choice to stop and ask his friends to help him do it.
I know that RTD proposed a theory that in that moment all the previous regenerations became bi-generations as well, but I like the idea that all the others could have bi-generated, but didn't. They weren't ready to look at themselves, or ask for that help from anyone. Not until now.
And I love love LOVE Ncuti Gatwa as Fifteen. I love that the healed next Doctor is a millennial. That he is a Doctor who can freely say he loved his friends, he loved Rose, can tell his former self, "I love you."
The show's become such a beautiful portrayal of generational trauma and healing that did not know that's what it was until its end.
And now, it begins again.

I just finished rereading Good Omens and now, after 2 seasons of the show, I understand season 1 a lot better.
The book is at its core about the Antichrist who grew up without hellish influence and due to being half-angel, half demon and fully human, couldn't let the world end. He's the center of the narrative, a character who grows more than anybody else, and he makes all the most important decisions on his own.
Crowley and Aziraphale are just there to be incompetent and a bit bumbling. They put the plot into motion and give us the celestial perspective on what's going on.
But the thing is that Adam is only eleven and it's not a children's book, so not every reader connects to Adam (I did) and the demon and the angel are so charismatic and fun that they became iconic and they're many people's favourite characters in the book. I could compare it to Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli being more iconic than Frodo because Frodo is just a normal hobbit who became a hero due to being a decent person, while the aforementioned four are noble, powerful, and highly unusual. Or the way a certain boy wizard was rarely somebody's favourite character (he was mine).
To me, someone who likes the journey more than the sites, the main characters are usually the most interesting ones, they change a lot, they learn, they make decisions. But aesthetically and due to their uniqueness, side characters can be more compelling. They also invite imagining their own journeys because they're usually unseen to us.
So, Crowley and Aziraphale ignite imagination and look very compelling. That's why it's sort of accepted that the book is about them. It's also easy to see them having further adventures because Adam's arc is complete.
When season 1 came out, I enjoyed it, but the added conflict between Aziraphale and Crowley irked me and I thought there wasn't enough focus on Adam.
What I understand now is that there was no journey for Aziraphale and Crowley in the book. They were an angel and a demon and it was implied that they were quite ordinary. Were another demon stationed on Earth given the Antichrist, they'd probably also not be very thrilled.
Aziraphale and Crowley start trusting each other more as the book goes on, but not by miles, and they essentially stay the same throughout the story. And that's great, they're comforting and reassuring.
They also depend on each other less. When Crowley thinks that Aziraphale is dead, he's sad, but he just moves on. They constantly ask each other to do things and they oblige each other without much deliberation. They are good friends. There is subtext that they look like a couple and they behave like one, but they can live without one another, they're just enjoying each other's company.
In the show, on the other hand, they are the main characters, it's not a kids show or an 80s American small town horror, after all. They should appear in each episode, not only in the first two and the last two. They need to grow and change and learn and make decisions.
They also must convey to an unprepared viewer in a limited amount of time that they aren't as evil or good as they are supposed to be and that despite everything, they care about each other. And such relationships should get tested.
They are also made distinct from all the other demons and angels, so that we know why it's only them trying to stop the Apocalypse.
In season 2 they are developed even further and now season 1 doesn't look like it got its protagonists confused, it looks deliberate and a great start to a love story of a couple of very unusual occult entities who exist not just to enjoy themselves, but to love each other and keep the world safe.
And that's beautiful.

Round 1 - Side A: Poll 3 of 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Abstract:
As Jake goes through some personal changes, he’s haunted by a sinister dream encounter with his brother Jermaine.
Finn the Human / Jake the Dog:
Finn and Jake chase the Lich through a dimensional portal where they meet Prismo, who tells them that the Lich wished for the destruction of all life. This leads Finn to wish that the Lich “never even ever existed.” / Finn gains powers from the Ice King’s crown.
propaganda below the cut
Abstract:
what if we condensed all the themes of adventure time into eleven minutes and it was wonderful
Finn the Human / Jake the Dog:
Absolutely legendary season opener. Changed my life as a kid. If I absolutely had to point to only one, specific moment when Adventure Time made the shift from Silly and Episodical to Emotionally Serious and Lore Focused, it would be this.

Your tags in the post of Derek missing Laura. That hurst so much. I really wonder if Peter feels sorry or regret killing Laura. Did he ever apologize to Derek? We know nothing about hold older was she, but probably in his mid twenties. She was alone with his brother, with a alpha spark that was too soon to have. Did she even see that was Peter who attacked her?
it's no secret laura hale is my roman empire of teen wolf. i wrote a 5K essay on my thoughts about laura and my theory on the circumstances surrounding her death.
it makes sense that derek doesn't talk about laura. we already know he doesn't talk about these things.
in fact i think the only time he does talk about laura in a way that's not necessary to relaying information is when he goes to see peter in heart monitor and even then it's choked off by grief.
one of the testaments to how much derek is lost and grieving without laura though is that he declares brotherhood to scott hours after he's buried laura. he latches onto scott despite everything because not only does he see himself in scott but he sees someone he can save when he was unable to prevent laura's death.
there is also an element of desperation to derek turning erica, boyd and isaac. not only does derek need a pack for power in the face of hunters and the kanima but he's seeking the familiarity of pack which for derek is synonymous with family.
he would never admit to how alone he feels. he is a brother without anyone to be a brother to. a middle child cast adrift without his sisters to anchor him. derek in seasons 1 and 2 believes he's outlived his baby sister and now exists in a world without his older one.
this is why it makes me salty that derek and cora never talked about laura. they never let these two reconnect as brother and sister.
like, cora's entire predicament and why she's so fucking angry is entirely glossed over. maybe if she had stayed longer it would've been explored but the fact they couldn't spare one fucking moment is just egregious.
she thought she was the only survivor of the fire that killed her family only to hear there was a hale alpha in beacon hills. did she think her mother survived? or if not talia than her older sister who was clearly meant to be talia's successor?
so not only did she get kidnapped by the alphas but she's struggling with the relief that derek's alive while being angry he's the alpha when it wasn't supposed to be him which probably makes her feel super guilty.
than there's the anger that peter killed laura, that derek's just letting him loiter around but there's also the relief that uncle peter's alive too.
it's why frayed is so interesting. not only is it the episode that pivots derek and scott's relationship but it gives us the cora and peter adventure.
peter: It's just me! your uncle... uncle peter... cora: uncle peter who killed sister laura. peter: mmm, not my finest hour, no. but, i'm hardly the only dysfunctional family member! did derek mention that he killed me, too? slashed my throat, ear-to-ear. cora: so, that means i should trust you? peter : actually, I'm wondering if i can trust you. cora: you've known me for seventeen years! peter: i knew you for eleven, leaving the last six unaccounted for. and i'm not particularly fond of things unaccounted.
this ties in to the fact that i do believe that peter does feel guilt over killing laura but like everything with peter it's complicated.
i think if he had been in his right mind he wouldn't have done it but due to his circumstances killing her was the only viable path that he saw at that time. plus i believe nurse jennifer played a role in pushing peter.
peter regrets the way it played out and probably wishes it went differently.
when peter shares his memories with scott in co-captain we hear laura say his name as she approached him. she knew it was him and it's probably why she was slow to defend herself.
i think it haunts him but he would never say that out loud.
as for apologizing to derek for it? well. i think it was part of the reason he wanted to turn stiles and one of the myriad of reasons peter continues to help derek.

Essential Boblin Episodes
In preparation for Boblin Week, I’ve compiled a list of the episodes where I think Bob and Linda’s dynamic shines the most.
Season One:
Weekend at Mort’s— this episode really has the grumpy/sunshine dynamic on full display! Bob and Linda fight and make up, and Bob learns a nice lesson about having fun with her.
Season Three:
Lindapendent Woman- ohhhhhhh myyyyy goodness. I’m being so serious when I say I think about this episode on a daily basis. Bob realizing how much he needs Linda’s help at the restaurant while also acknowledging how how she makes his life more fun?? So excellent, makes me cry, 10/10.
My Fuzzy Valentine- Bob being dumb and going to great lengths to make Linda’s Valentine’s Day special!!! Also, this episode is just so funny in general.
Season Four:
A River Runs Through Bob- the bickering in this one!! They’re so, so married. They overcome a huge problem together, and Linda gets to be the hero. Amazing.
Seaplane!— Hello??? Using infidelity in a storyline while also never having Bob or Linda consider cheating on one another is so genius. I like the argument they have that’s the heart of this episode, because both sides are understandable and I think it’s easy to empathize with them both.
Season Five:
Can’t Buy Me Math- I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day, and I love Bob and Linda spending so much time trying to perfect theirs 😭 having romance be very messy and imperfect is so them, and it’s hilarious and sweet.
Adventures in Chinchilla-sitting- Bob and Linda having fun together by being lowkey mischievous is a favorite of mine. Also the kiss at the end??? Best boblin kiss.
Season Six:
Stand By Gene- I love Bob and Linda’s competitiveness with each other, and this one adds the extra element of Bob feeling guilty and realizing how proud he actually is of Linda doing well. The moral of like “we’re always on the same side, even when we’re not” GETS TO ME.
Season Seven:
Bob Actually- sue me, it’s another Valentine’s Day episode. I love Bob stepping sooo far out of his comfort zone to make Linda smile, and her reaction to his surprise is adorable. Obsessed with them.
Eggs For Days- Bob and Linda being sooo dumb and petty and competitive. It’s a good thing they married each other, because who else is going to get this hardcore about their children’s egg hunt?
Season Eight:
The Trouble With Doubles (/also The Date Escape? google says both titles)- A hallmark of long term relationships is handling frustrating situations together, and Bob and Linda being stuck with an annoying couple feels like such a realistic Marriage™️ problem.
Go Tina on the Mountain- Is there anything more on brand for Boblin then falling asleep on the couch together after eating copious amounts of cheese? No.
Are You There, Bob? It’s Me, Birthday- I love this little exploration of an introvert and an extrovert being in a relationship together! And I love how Bob and Linda both come to separate realizations about sacrifices they can make to make the other person happy
Season Ten:
The Ring (but not scary)- Bob is so, so excited to give Linda an anniversary gift she deserves, and Linda is so secure in their love that she doesn’t need one anyway. Yes, I’m still mad about this ending.
Season Eleven:
Romancing The Beef- I’m obsessed with how their lists of what they love each other consist of such small, domestic things.
Season Twelve:
Touch of Eval(uations)— literally my favorite boblin episode!!! Bob being so anxious about not being buried with Linda is a unique way of demonstrating how much he loves her and just wants to be with her forever. This episode makes me lose my mind.
Ferry on My Wayward Bob and Linda- Valentine’s Day episodes are their THING. Another instance of them enduring a difficult situation together, and the ending where they kiss and say I love you simply destroys my life.

And I’ve been flouting the principle of my people ever since
FINAL EPISODE FINAL EPISODE FINAL!!!!! "Time Of The Doctor," let's do it: it's ASDA's Own Brand "Parting Of The Ways"
sexism rank objectification (female character is ogled/harassed/turned into a sex joke by the doctor and/or a lead we’re supposed to root for and/or the camera): 4/10
sexism rank plot-point (lead female character is only there to serve plot, not to have her emotional interiority explored, or given agency to her emotional interiority): 2/10
interesting complex or pointlessly complex (does the complexity serve the narrative or does it just serve to be confusing as a stand-in for smart, this includes visually): 3/10
furthers character and/or lore and/or plot development (broader question that ties into the previous ones, at least two of these, ideally three should be fulfilled): 4/10
companion matters (the companion doesn’t always have to be there, but if the companion is there, can they function without the doctor– and overall per season how often is the companion the focus or POV of the story): 3/10
the doctor is more than just “godlike” (examines the doctor’s flaws and limitations, doesn’t solve a plot by having it revolve entirely around the doctor’s existence): 3/10
doesn’t look down on previous doctor who (by erasing or mocking its importance, by redoing and “bettering” previous beloved plotpoints or characters, etc.): 5/10
isn’t trying to insert hamfisted sexiness (m*ffat famously talked a lot about how dw should be sexier multiple times, he sucks at writing it): 4/10
internal world has consistency (characters have backgrounds, feel rooted in a place with other people, generally feel like they have Lives): 4/10
Politics (how conservative is the story): 4/10
FULL RATING: 36/100 (if I can count….)
CONGRATULATIONS! ELEVEN'S RUN HAS ENDED ON THE OFFICIALLY LOWEST RATED EPISODE BASED ON THESE CRITERIA OF THE ENTIRE RUN!
Now there's a saying that goes something along the lines of being Bad is not bad. Boring is bad
well this episode is Bad and Boring. but at least the music is great!
OBJECTIFICATION: there's a woman who's the high priest of a religious organisation (it's in fact the religious organisation that filters back in time and causes all the trouble for the Eleventh Doctor this whole era) and guess what????
she's sexy
shocking, really. she's the amalgamation of the River Song/Queen Liz The Tenth/Nefertiti with a sprinkle of Irene Adler Bullshit given one last Hurrah!
genuinely she's meant to be at the centre for quite a complex arc of powerful leader with whom the Doctor has an uneasy alliance to years long antagonism with a dash of strange friendship to sticking up for one another at the last Conflict, and all I can tell you about her is that she is sexy, allegedly
OH also that she's apparently a psychopath too
there's also non-consensual kissing, which I've opted to put in the "sexiness" category, but belongs just as much here!
PLOT-POINT: Clara calls the Doctor to be her pretend boyfriend for Christmas (at least she has a family, and while we've not properly met them before now outside of her dead mum in flashbacks, I can buy these people in this estate!)
and from there Clara's feelings about things is uh. The Doctor is great and please don't leave me behind, which the Doctor does... twice!
but this is no Parting Of The Ways/Dooms Day big dramatic event -- Clara is not the focal point here, or her emotions about her life and what it means to be whisked away from it on these adventures, no matter how dangerous, or how it affects her relationship with just-met family, or anything to do with class or feelings of self-worth or or or... no nonoooo what this episode suggests is that she fancies the Doctor
and she has another similar Moment to Parting Of The Ways in which the Doctor changes in front of her (the big emotional moment is with a hallucinated Amy Pond, Clara is kind of just... also there), and she asks him not to, even though to her, as far as I've seen this season, the Doctor is a really good mate, whom she already knows regenerates, because she's seen all 11 of their lives, so where is this emotion coming from? Idk, I guess because she thinks Eleven is hot, or something, that's all I can come up with. general human angst about things not being the same? whatever it is, it's not grounded in anything character-based that I've seen
the point is that things happen and she does some things but none of this is about her and she could as well not be in this story
COMPLEXITY: ARGH okay so me calling this Parting Of The Ways redux -- the Doctor lands on Trenzalore (without knowing it's Trenzalore?) after a bunch of pointless buildup that is way too similar to Pandorica Opens and once again gathers the greatest hits of Daleks, Cybermen and... Slitheen (this has happened twice, does M*ffat know the Slitheen are a family and not a species? gosh I'm getting pedantic now, but you ain't seen nothing yet, because I've just watched all of Eleven's era and had to suffer through things that could have been good but instead were.... this!)
and other species, Sontaran uh... oh Angels at the beginning and... just take my word for it, other species. because there's a Signal, and the Signal is beaming out a Question, and the Question is... it's still Doctor Who, that's still The Question, which the Answer is a Code Word that will bring back the Time Lords from where they're hiding. so many things are Capitalised, because everything is given Capital Importance All The Time
Anyway, this is all centred on a... town called Christmas. because it's a Christmas episode. we're really going to have to get into some cultural Christianity type judgement at this point I feel, although I do acknowledge this isn't a M*ffat fault so much as the fact that there is a Christmas special. one day the Doctor is going to travel with someone who's idk. Jewish. Hindu. Muslim. Druze. Sikh. Take your pick
I do think M*ffat is worse than RTD for inserting Christmas as this all-important Universal Type Thing, whereas at least in Christmas Invasion it was just like... we're celebrating a local family's Christmas traditions. Runaway Bride? fucking hate Christmas. Titanic episode a bit shakier, but makes fun of Christmas, which I enjoyed
eh The Next Doctor... shakier. anyway, it's shaky, where was I?
A TOWN CALLED CHRISTMAS! where you can only tell the truth, which will not matter at all to the plot, I think? unless I missed something massive while yelling NO STOP FUCKING WHAT???? at the screen
and the Doctor and all these species enter into a several hundred years long stalemate, where the Doctor allegedly can't leave because... they'll bomb it to get rid of the signal that indicates where the Doctor must answer the Question to bring back the Time Lords I think? and then the people of Christmas will die
and they can't invade Christmas because the Doctor is single-handedly defending it, which the Doctor can do now I guess
but then at the end the Doctor can't because he's old and it's been hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years in this frankly boring as fuck town that never changes and has zero personality, and the Daleks invade, and then Doctor regenerates (he was afraid he couldn't because due to technicalities this is the last regeneration, except we know it's not -- not mad at that, I get it, give it some emotion, makes sense) and uses the energy to just blow up all the Daleks
IIII am not convinced that regeneration energy can blow up all the Dalek ships, dunno... but it's not the stupidest part of this episode, which is really just the Doctor's whole *waves hands* Thing about this town that needs to be this way because the Plot Demands It and the surrounding aliens and the Doctor is so very interesting and powerful and rather than dig into the plot, we have a Voice Over giving quick explanations to tie us in from one scene to the next
I'm not sure we ever find out who that is? but M*ffat LOVES a Voice Over, almost as much as he likes a not-so-cryptic mysterious prophecy wrapped in a simple rhyming sche- OH YEAH WE GET THAT TOO
If I'd known to count these from the beginning I would have done so, because frankly it turned out to be one of my biggest pet peeves of the era. why is this thing happening? oh see, there was a prophetic Rhyme said at some point by any rando so it's gotta, sorry. Prophetic Rhymes. gotta Prophecy, because it's in a rhyme that could have been put together by a five year old, that's how you know it's extra Prophetic
anyway then the Crack In The Wall/Universe reappears in this place and is just vibing with the Doctor for all these years, and at the end Clara kneels down next to it and asks it to... save? the Doctor... I've gotta be honest I must have faded out at that point, because I cannot remember if it's explained
. how does Clara come up with the idea to do this?/what is her connection to the crack in the wall that she'd think it was sentient or even that important to events or idk... capable of doing what it later does?
. how does it become sentient??
. uh what does it do other than be kind of spooky and suck up a few daleks?
. where does it go?
. why was it there?
OH and the Daleks infiltrate that Religious Organisation and take over all of them/turn them into the human Daleks we saw back in Asylum and it's... idk whatever, I never cared about this organisation (but we'll get to that)
and then the Doctor regenerates into Peter Capaldi
the point is, I couldn't help but think of Nine's final episode, staying behind to protect the earth, as every character we met in this two-parter has died doing the same. in this episode Eleven stays to protect... some people in some place who have no real character other than as reflecting onto the Doctor. Rose and Clara are both sent away, and both come back, but for Clara that's not part of her arc, it's just that she arrives at key moments to witness the Doctor Doing Stuff
all of the emotional weight behind Parting Of The Ways is superficially recreated in this story, right down to big old Massive Dalek Spooky Voice, which I think epitomises M*ffat's writing. stay on the surface and it'll feel epic and big and complex and like it's emotionally doing something and going somewhere, look at it the tiniest bit closer and it's just... Flash Scene after Flash Scene
CHARACTERS/LORE/PLOT: And then the Doctor regenerates into Peter Capaldi. nothing else important happens in this episode. Clara and the Eleventh Doctor end statically (no real Anger anger about being abandoned twice, it's a short little argument and then they hug the first time and the second she's just... there at the end)
no new info really on the Time Lords/Gallifrey. the name being a Code Word might be new actually
um. Christmas is just some place at the end, why is it safe now?
COMPANIONS MATTER: Sorry Clara you got pulled into the Bullshit of a patented M*ffat finale episode
“GODLIKE” DOCTOR: uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh the Doctor can single-handedly hold off fleets of Daleks, Cybermen, Angels, Sontarans...... Slitheen... I guess... etcetc... and yes they can't bomb the place from orbit, but wow what a way to render all of the main players in DW as apparently utterly boring when up against specialist boy of all time
also the episode cloaks itself in so much grandeur (the most successful layer of which is of course Murray Gold's score), and so much alleged mystery and Oh The Doctor Is So Interesting for a story in which, I cannot stress enough, despite my large write-up above, Barely anything happens!
back into pedantic mode but having just watched Eleven's whole era, which had a few great episodes, a bunch of mediocre ones, and wahaaay too many absolutely unwatchable ones, I find the speech at the end to be entirely too meta self-aggrandising. what are the important things about Eleven, what do we take away? that it was all super awesome and "I'll never forget when the Doctor was me" said straight at the camera -- I'm shocked he didn't wink
yes, Nine had "you were fantastic and so was I" (paraphrased I know), and Ten had "I don't want to go," but it's based in what's been going on with the characters up until that point in various ways, and also wasn't preluded by seasons of narrative that made you want to claw your brains out, so that a line about not wanting to forget a single moment makes you go "actually I'd be happy to forget a fair bit"
this probably feels different if one really enjoyed this Era outside of select episodes, but since I have sooo much baggage tied into it and it hasn't mysteriously improved upon rewatch, it makes me want to shake M*ffat by the scruff of his neck
PREVIOUS DOCTOR WHO: mmmm as far as I'm aware there's barely anything here, apart from youknow. Daleks and Cybermen and a throwaway about TenToo being down to "vanity issues" which I can take, because the Doctor often trivialises things in order not to discuss them
I guess all the callbacks were for Day Of The Doctor, but still. kind of an oddly connectionless regeneration episode. it's your last Hurrah and it's tying up all of M*ffat's loose ends unsatisfactorily and in a rush before getting the heck outta dodge (because who cared about this town where the whole thing is set, really???)
oh and "reverse the polarity"
“SEXINESS”: OHHHHHHH WELL YOU SEE! YOU REMEMBER! that woman I mentioned who's the allegedly mysteeeerious powerful leader of the Religious Organisation?
well she just can't resist the sexy sexy Doctor. her introduction scene includes all of this within idk. ten seconds: Hey babes. New body, give us a twirl. Nice though. Tight.
it is important to note that although the audience can't see it, the Doctor is technically naked when she says these things, because there's a pointless plotline where they have to briefly beam onto the planet and can't bring anything with them, including clothes, so they... hologram them on???
the Doctor also does this in front of Clara's family who all see him naked and don't really interact with this beyond grandmother being visibly into it, and Clara pushing the Doctor into the kitchen and saying "he's Swedish"
also actually, in the beginning of the episode Clara calls asking the Doctor to "be her boyfriend" (omitting the word "pretend" by accident) and he responds by going "Ding Dong"
it's just... really M*ffat's Greatest Hits
I wrote the words WHY IS THIS BEING SEXY??? AGAIN???? several times in my notes, including one bit where he insults Religious Lady enough to make her angry enough to reverse her Dalek brainwashing/death... whatever just to slap him (I think this also doubles as a sexist moment, because the Doctor starts the insulting by pointing at Clara and going that is a Woman! meaning Clara is just representing People better by not being cowardly, but like... why frame it like that, when there's been all this badly-written non-tension between you two), at which point he grabs her and dip-kisses her without her consent
Religious Lady, winded: Kiss me when I ask The Doctor: Well you’d better ask nicely
she smiles, clearly kind of turned on by that bit of misogyny
oh so sexy
INTERNAL WORLD: Town called Christmas? Nonsense, no personality, nothing. Big Religious Organisation that engineered the whole set of events of this era? as bland and boring as when we met them back in s6 (seriously what do they stand for, I still don't know who they are in any meaningful way). Clara's family? yeah I'll give it that, she has a family, which is, again, more than can be said for Amy
POLITICS: I've already done my Christmas Spiel. the other thing is something I said in the review for the last episode, which is that "ordinary" people don't matter. the people of Christmas, Clara, her family, they're just set-dressing for the really Important people (Big Religious Organisation, Dalek Commanders, The Doctor) to do their Important People Things
how do they feel about it? what part of the story do they affect? why do we care about these people?
no, the important thing about this story is apparently the Gods, the Military, the Religious Institutions, who also aren't represented by ordinary people for that matter, but by their Structures and the Leaders Who Uphold them... as practically Inhuman
FULL RATING: 36/100 (if I can count….)
listen... Capaldi is here. and yes, he starts underground in terms of the bar and has to claw his way up, but I know he does it!
meanwhile what can I say about the end of an era?
there were some good'uns. we'll get to that on a bigger summing up, but I will not lie, they were there. not... when M*ffat was writing
it was around this time (actually earlier s7) that I stopped watching, and I'm glad I did, because I can watch it now and enjoy the good without taking the bad so much to my very emotional teenage heart
this episode shouldn't exist, if I'm being honest. they should have ended Eleven's run in the 50th Anniversary, which, while very very flawed, was at least suitably actually epic and is the episode that sets up a lot of the next arcs
the most I can say for this is that it leaves behind a lot of the baggage of s5-7 -- not tying it up suitably, but at least ending it. don't need to care about cracks in walls, the silence and their weird cult, Trenzalore, or The Question... at least I bloody hope not!

So I pretty consistently watched DW through Nine, Ten, and Eleven. I started watching Twelve, and then fell off like near the end of his first season. Then I watched a few episodes with Twelve and Bill, but again fell off. Then watched almost all of Thirteen’s first season except the last special, then jumped back in and watched her last two episodes in prep for these 60th specials.
And really, I’ve always wanted to go back through and watch the whole thing. Even back through Eleven’s since aside from a few episodes I pretty much only ran through his seasons once. But obviously motivation hasn’t been there for me to sit down and do it, and I kind of found all the little bits that I’ve learned through the years about the Gallifrey stuff a little daunting to try and get my head ready to wrap around.
Here’s the thing though. Fourteen’s emotional breakdown in this second special, talking about the Flux (which I have no idea what that’s about) and timeless child and idk even what else make me so want to go back and watch so badly, just so I can fully understand and appreciate these scenes and emotions.
And honestly I can’t think of a time I was watching a new regen’s season or special and thought that.
One of the aspects of the regens (especially when it’s a new show runner) that I’ve always been a little sad over is that there’s very little reference to the Doctor(s) they were before, and especially the companions and events they went through. I get that they want to distinguish these new chapters as their own, and that the Doctor is not the same Doctor as they were before. But it just feels like such an amputation and makes me so sad.
Like don’t get me wrong, I’m over the moon that David specifically is back to have this adventure with Donna. But it would just make me swoon to see another of the Doctor’s faces speak with the same love for their former companions. Another example of this is in Thirteen’s last episode with the classic companions, we just got a bite of Thirteen’s face with them before it switched to their personal Doctor’s faces (which again, I’m more excited as a fan watching knowing these are actors who are so excited to work together again and that we’re so lucky to still have these actors appearing, than as a follower of the story seeing the current Doctor with their old friends).
Anyway, that’s not my point here. My point is that the carry over of story and influence of previous Doctor(s) emotions/thoughts/feelings is something that I adore and it motivates me to go back and learn more and get the whole story. Because if RTD is giving us this for just the specials, I look forward to his approach for the next Doctor and season so much!

Henry Danger Reader Insert | Captain Man x Reader: SEASON 1
Episode 23: The Bucket Trap
~ Down in the Man Cave~
Charlotte and (y/n) were anxiously anticipating the return of Henry and Ray from their patrol. They'd had been waiting for hours and after growing antsy, they had taken to pacing around. However, to their relief, the long wait was soon over, as the tube alarm sounded and the two superheroes dropped into the headquarters.
"Hey, how'd it go?" Charlotte greeted them, she and (y/n) lighting up now that they could hear about their adventures.
"Oh, man, it was insane." Ray smiled as he and Henry walked down the steps to the females. His happy demeanour perked up his best friend, her boredom and nervous excitement bubbling down into a calmness.
"It was nuts!" Henry exclaimed, fuelling Ray's climatic animation.
"Don't leave us in suspense then!" (y/n) told them, eager to hear about what had happened. Things had been a little tense in the Man Cave for the past week, ever since the whole Dennis escapade. Ray tried for days afterwards to get his best friend to stay with a friend downtown, but she refused. The Man Cave was her home, he was her friend and she wasn't going to leave when there was work to be done.
"Okay. The news helicopter was flying around over Swellview, just going in circles." Ray started, his grin expanding at how intently the woman was listening to him.
"Because the helicopter pilot fell asleep at the controls." Henry continued, adding a touch of drama to the tale with his voice.
"And did you guys figure out a way to wake him up?" Charlotte asked, intrigued at how the story was unfolding.
"No. We just watched the helicopter fly around in circles." Ray said, walking past the girls, who looked at the heroic duo in disbelief.
"Until it ran out of gas and fell right down into the Jandy River," Henry added, not helping how horrified they looked.
"Raymond!" (y/n) exclaimed, shocked that he had just watched the helicopter crash. She watched him move to the supercomputer.
"And you guys didn't do anything?" Charlotte voiced her anger too.
"I got a video of it going down," Henry said and he shared a smirk with Ray. The girls' frowns got even deeper at how they were borderline gloating.
"What about the pilot? Was he hurt?" Charlotte inquired, hoping they weren't going around if someone had gotten injured.
"No. Just wet." Kid Danger shrugged, as Ray laughed at the memory.
"So very wet." He chuckled, (y/n) rolling her eyes at his amusement. She didn't think that the situation was funny at all. She lost her train of thought when Henry received a text, his phone dinging from the notification.
"Ugh. Another text from Jasper. That's eleven texts in one hour," Henry groaned, wondering why his friend was so keen to get his attention.
"I've got nine," Charlotte added too, scrolling through all the notifications as she leant on the back of the couch and Henry and (y/n) sat down.
"Man, what's up with that Jasper kid?" Ray asked, standing from the computer chair and going over to Charlotte.
"It's the bucket boy, right? Doesn't he have any other friends?" The young woman questioned too. She didn't know a huge amount about Jasper, other than he was Henry and Charlotte's other friend, he was a bit annoying and he loved buckets.
"Well, yeah, but not the kind you'd be, you know, proud of," Charlotte said carefully, not wanting to be mean about her friend.
"We're his best friends. But now because we work for you, we end up having to leave him alone all the time." Henry explained, making Ray and (y/n) feel a little guilty. They didn't live an easy life, they had to sacrifice a lot to keep everything secret. It sucked that the kids had to do it as well.
"I feel really bad for him," Charlotte said too.
"We're sorry we expect so much from you, but this is what we have to do to keep Captain Man fighting crime." (y/n) told them sincerely and the teens knew she meant it. They knew that she went through crap for Ray too, even though it was often for a completely different reason.
"Yeah...you guys hungry? Who wants Greek food?" Ray put his hand up, smiling at his friends. They weren't impressed, especially (y/n), who wished that sometimes he'd suppress his childishness in serious moments.
"Ray, we just told you we had a real problem we have with our friend," Henry stated, not believing how dismissive his boss had been.
"And all you can say is 'Who wants Greek food?'" Charlotte reiterated and Ray lifted his arm even higher.
"Don't be a dick!" (y/n) scolded him, punching him in the stomach, his rock-hard abs hurting her hand more than she hurt him.
"Tzatziki? Moussaka?" The large man held both her hands together so she couldn't hit him again. She struggled against his grip, but let's face it, she wasn't going anywhere.
"Fine, but we're still going to discuss it." She sighed, making her best friend pick her up and spin her around before skipping off to phone the Greek restaurant.
"You can never say no to him." Charlotte deadpanned, she and Henry watching the situation with bemused faces.
"You lurveee him." Henry teased her, making her hide her red face in her hands.
"Shut up! Go get changed!" She replied in an embarrassed voice. She knew that what they were saying was completely true, but they didn't need to know that.
~~
The food had finally arrived, creating a delicious-looking spread on the couch table. The ground had gathered around it, serving strawberry and blueberry kool-aid alongside the meal.
"Mmmmm..." They all said as they took the first mouthful, the traditional food doing wonders on the tastebuds.
"Man, I love these 'jye-rose'. That's how you say it, y'know, 'jye-rose'." Ray said, his pronunciation not great.
"You try it." He told the kids as (y/n) rolled her eyes and took a sip of her strawberry drink.
"'Jye-rose'" They said together, thinking that it wasn't very difficult to say.
"Perfect." Ray complimented them, taking another bite of his food.
"Don't you think you should talk about something else with them?" (y/n) nudged his knee with his and he looked over his glass at her, the blue liquid sloshing about in the glass.
"What?" His voice was muffled by the glass, and he sounded puzzled as to why she was raising her eyebrows at him.
"Back to our problem with Jasper," Henry told him, jogging his memory back to their problem. Ray groaned at the mention of the boy, causing his best friend to hit him on the arm like a mother scolding her child.
"Don't be rude!" She looked at him sternly, a finger pointed at his face.
"Don't groan, he's our friend." Charlotte chided him too.
"Yeah, and it's not cool how we always have to lie to him and leave him all alone when you need us to work," Henry told his boss his real feelings, which didn't go down with Ray very well. He never took criticism in good humour.
"Okay. Here's an idea." He said in a cheerful voice.
"What?"
"What you got?" The teens replied, thinking he had good intentions.
'Oh god...' (y/n) had known Ray a lot longer than they had and she knew that he wasn't taking their concerns seriously.
"One night soon, we go to Jasper's house...we sneak into his room..." Ray leaned closer as he explained his plan, which the kids nodded along enthusiastically.
"Here it comes." (y/n) mumbled under her breath.
"And we brain wipe his memory so he doesn't remember either one of you." Ray smiled, thinking it was foolproof.
"There it goes." The young woman pinched the bridge of her nose in exasperation as Henry and Charlotte scoffed in offence.
"No. Friends don't wipe friend's brains." Charlotte said in an angry voice.
"Yeah, you wouldn't wipe (y/n)'s brain." Henry gestured to the woman and Ray frowned as they did.
"What? No! She's my friend!" The superhero exclaimed, proving their point. The fact sucked, always the friend, never the girlfriend, but at least it made him see he was a hypocrite.
"Just pass the lamb balls," Ray said to the dark-haired girl in an irritated tone.
"They're actually called Keftedes." (y/n) mentioned as Ray served her some in a sulk.
"Anyway, I got a better idea," Henry announced, wondering how the two adults would take it.
"What?" Charlotte turned to him, knowing that anything was better than what Ray had suggested.
"I say that we just tell Jasper that I'm Kid Danger." Henry declared, causing (y/n) to choke on her meatball and Ray to spray his Kool-aid across the floor.
"That was charming," Charlotte commented with a grimacing face, as the woman in front of her coughed from the food in her windpipe. Ray patted her back and eventually, she calmed down, but she still felt shocked at what the boy had suggested.
"No! No, no, no, no, sir!" Ray exclaimed, wiping his mouth with a blue napkin as he soothingly rubbed (y/n)'s back. He was still on edge from her last near-death experience.
"Oh, why not? (y/n/n), come on! What's the worst thing that could happen?" Charlotte looked at the more reasonable of the two, but even she was sceptical at the idea. This Jasper kid wasn't known for his intelligence and his super-enthusiasm for Captain Man would surely result in him spilling to a supervillain or something.
"Uh, well, the worst thing is if Jasper blabs it all over the place, and then everyone in the world knows Henry's Kid Danger," Ray said in an amused voice, (y/n) agreeing with him even though she knew it was upsetting the teens.
"And then the bad guys follow him and find out he works here, so then they know how how to find Captain Man too, and then they blow this place up, including this really cute skirt I bought last week that I haven't worn yet." (y/n) was exaggerating a bit, but it was nothing compared to how Ray was feeling. He had stood up and was now pacing up and down the middle of the Man Cave.
"And then they could also figure out where Henry's house is, which puts him and his whole family in major danger." Ray finished the scenario by planking on the back of the couch, his body hovering next to (y/n) as she nibbled on her food a little.
"Okay, but other than that?" Charlotte looked at them with a bored expression. In her eyes, it really wasn't that big of a deal.
"Nobody is going to tell Jasper or anyone else that Henry's Kid Danger," Ray said firmly.
"(y/n), help us out!" Charlotte pleaded with her, thinking that she would get on their side and convince Ray.
"Sorry, guys, but I agree with doofus. Jasper just can't keep secrets." (y/n) tried to be fair, but it was so hard. Everyone wanted her on their team since she influenced either side. But ultimately, she thought her best friend was right. Just because Jasper was their friend and was getting left out, didn't mean they should tell him.
"Come on, what if I promise you he'll keep the secret?" Henry asked Ray, sighing with (y/n), who lifted herself onto the back of the couch.
"You can't guarantee that." The superhero argued.
"You wanna know how many of my friends I can't tell about my job? They just have to accept that I've got responsibilities." (y/n) lectured, Ray walking up behind her and squeezing her shoulder. He knew how many things she had given up for him; friends, some family, a normal life, and he couldn't be more grateful that she had stuck with him. He put her through late nights, criminal lunatics coming after them, endless repairs and menial tasks. She really was his angel.
"All right. Why don't we just test Jasper and see?" Charlotte proposed, having had enough of the tall tales about moral high ground.
"Yes. Good." Henry agreed with her.
"What are you guys talking about?" Ray said in a very strained voice, (y/n) swinging her legs over the back of the sofa so she could go over and calm him down.
"We'll make up some big old juicy secret." The dark-haired girl told the adults, making them rub their faces with frustration. Kids were too stubborn for them.
"And then, if he keeps that secret for a week, we know we can trust him." Henry theorised, looking at the two earnestly.
"What do you think?" Charlotte asked, hoping they'd agree.
"Okay." Ray nodded, (y/n) smirking at him as she whispered in his ear, her hot breath making his hair stand on end.
"But we get to pick the fake secret." The young woman grinned at the teens mischievously, knowing that it would have to be something so crafty, so intrinsically evil, they would squirm on the spot.
"Sure."
"Done deal, man." Charlotte and Henry nodded at each other, thinking they could take anything that was thrown at them. Ray sat back down on the couch, pulling (y/n) into his lap and the two of them smiled sweetly.
"So, what secret do you want us to tell him?" Charlotte asked, so Ray murmured into the woman's ear and she giggled cunningly.
The sight of them snuggling and whispering together so openly was unusual for them, but Ray had been more touchy ever since he saw the fading bruises on her collarbone. They always reminded him that she could be taken in an instant, so he found himself needing more physical reassurance that she was still there. However, for Charlotte and Henry, this was war, and no cute couple was going to make them back down.
"That you and Henry..." Ray started, his hands sliding down her waist so his thumb could stroke where her leg joined to her hip. She relaxed into him, enjoying how the scent of his cologne enveloped her.
"...Are boyfriend and girlfriend!" (y/n) squealed, holding up two fingers and then joining them to indicate the two friends coming together in love. She and Ray watched in amusement as the kids cringed and scowled at the thought of being more than friends. The man's chest rumbled behind her as he chuckled and pressed a kiss to her shoulder, making the woman blush as she sipped her drink.
"Have fun..." (y/n) quipped, as she and her would-be boyfriend knew they had their employees rattled. This was going to be interesting...
~Later that night~
Henry and Charlotte had meticulously planned their dinner with Jasper. Everything had to be perfect, otherwise, Jasper would smell a rat and think it was a prank. The table was set, the food was ready, all they had to now was wait for him to arrive.
"Okay, who's going to start?" Henry asked Charlotte as she set out the beakers.
"I don't wanna start." She replied, thinking that the whole plan was unnecessarily wicked on Ray and (y/n)'s parts.
"It's my house, I make the rules." He said like a child.
"Well, why'd you ask me who's going to start if you knew you wanted me to start?" She responded, causing an argument between them. They talked over one another frantically until Jasper came through the door.
"Hey, guys!" He greeted his friends, who broke apart instantly once he spoke.
"Oh, hey, Jasper."
"Hi there, Jasper." They said simultaneously, acting like they hadn't just been freaking out.
"So, why'd you guys invite me for dinner?" The curly-haired boy inquired, throwing his jacket on the couch and sauntering to the table.
"Pfffft, what do you mean why?" Henry scoffed.
"Friends don't need a reason to invite a friend for dinner, right?" Charlotte joined in with a nervous smile.
"I guess." Jasper shrugged.
"Although we do have a reason."
"There is a reason." His friends told him, igniting curiosity in him. What did they want to tell him?
"But first, did you see we made your favourite dinner?" Henry gestured to the spread put out before them, and Jasper gasped as he took it all in.
"Fish sticks and peas!" The boy clapped his hands excitedly.
"Yeah. Sit down." Charlotte told him, finding it a little odd that Jasper ate fish sticks with just peas. The friends sat down, Charlotte giving Henry a look.
"Uh, so, we have something that we kind of wanna tell you. But first, you have to promise. You got to swear that you'll never tell anyone this secret. " Henry started, his tummy alive with butterflies.
"No worries, I can keep a secret." Jasper smiled.
"Can you?" Henry stared at him intensely, putting his friend on edge.
"Yeah. I never told Charlotte you were the one who killed her goldfish." Oh poor Jasper, he really needed to think before he said something. Henry looked at Charlotte with wide eyes as she kicked off.
"WHAT?" She yelled, thinking that her goldfish's death was one of life's shitty curveballs.
"You did not just say that!" Henry snapped at Jasper, who was perspiring at the situation he found himself in.
"You killed Nemo?" Tears sprung up in the corners of the girl's eyes. Her beloved fish...
"We're getting off track here." He looked at her and she calmed down a smidge.
"Now, we want to tell you a big secret, but you gotta seriously swear that you'll never tell anyone," Henry told Jasper firmly.
"Never ever." Charlotte cemented, her tone of voice telling the teen that she meant business.
"I swear on Nemo's grave." Jasper held his fingers up, swearing his secrecy.
"Stop mentioning Nemo," Henry whined at him as the dark-haired girl in front of him gave him a death glare.
"I can't believe you killed him." She hissed over the fish sticks.
"I tickled his back, he had a stroke, it wasn't my fault!" He yelled back. He hadn't meant for the fish to die, but that wasn't the point. Henry didn't know how to get the words out of his mouth, but Charlotte gave him an encouraging look.
"Charlotte and I are boyfriend and girlfriend." He struggled out, thinking about how he was going to kill those two, oblivious, sanctimonious, stinking excuses for bosses/friends when he got hold of them. Jasper's bottom lip quivered in shock, pointing a shaking finger at his friends.
"You? She? You and She? You and him?" He stuttered, looking back and forth between them. He obviously couldn't take it, because he grabbed the bowl of peas and emptied it down his shirt.
"What?!" He yelled after the peas have rolled out of the bottom of his shirt.
"It's true." Charlotte lied, trying to make herself sound believable.
"You guys are dating?" He spluttered.
"We sure are."
"We're deep in love." Charlotte felt like throwing up, but she plastered a fake smile on her face like Henry.
"Wow. So you guys, like, kiss and stuff?" Jasper giggled at the thought of them doing all the mushy, lovey-dovey stuff.
"Mmm-hmm, we sure do," Charlotte replied Henry looked like he was about to spontaneously combust.
"We kiss a lot." The boy said uneasily, swallowing the lump in his throat.
"Can I see?" Jasper questioned in a low voice, setting off a panic in their stomachs.
"Well, we can't kiss right now," Charlotte told him quickly.
"Why not?" The curly-haired boy groaned, thinking his friends were taking all the fun out of what he'd just learned.
"Because Charlotte has a mouth sore." Henry came out with, irritating the girl in question. Why did she have to be the diseased one?
"Ewww, gross," Jasper complained at the thought.
"Yeah, it's real gross." Charlotte glared at the boys.
"Henry, why don't you take me to the mouth doctor?" She pointed to the door with her thumb.
"Sure, baby." Henry cringed at what he said, but it gave the two a chance to get out of the house.
"Wait, it's nighttime. I think all the doctors are closed!" Jasper yelled after them as they opened the door.
"Remember, you promised that you'd never tell anyone that we're boyfriend and girlfriend." Henry reminded him.
"Okay, but where are you going to take Char--" The poor kid couldn't finish his sentence as they ran out briskly. At least he had his fish sticks to keep him happy.
~Junk-N-Stuff, the next day~
Henry and Charlotte were busy scrubbing the teeth in the Dinosaur's head. All that fire had scorched them into a grungy colour, so it was their task to get them back to a reasonable state. Ray and (y/n) were watching them curiously, wondering how to bring up the conversation about the bucket kid.
"So, you guys told Jasper yesterday, huh?" (y/n) asked as Ray helped her polish the counter.
"Yep."
"We did." The kids replied, getting their toothbrushes into all the nooks and crannies of the dinosaur's mouth.
"Ha, I bet he's already blabbed it to every kid in your school." Ray chuckled, thinking he and (y/n) were guaranteed to win the bet.
"And if he did, it meeeeeans....we were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong!" The large man sang with a little dance, Henry and Charlotte strolling over to the counter with frowns on their faces.
"Okay, that's enough." (y/n) squirted some cleanser onto his hand since he was getting on her nerves too. He recoiled with a grumble, ceasing his petulant behaviour. All of a sudden, the shop's doorbell jingled and Jasper came into the store.
"Shhhh!" Henry and Charlotte shushed the adults, much to their annoyance.
"We weren't talking," Ray said to them, but they had already gone to see Jasper. He put his arm around (y/n)'s shoulders as they watched the teens interact.
"Hey, Jasper." Henry greeted his best friend.
"What are you doing here?" Charlotte asked cheerfully.
"I can't stop thinking about what you guys told me last night." Jasper started, causing the other kids to shush him as Ray smirked into his coffee.
"Give me a sip." (y/n) whispered to him, not taking her eyes off the three.
"I asked if you wanted a coffee and you said no!" Ray mumbled back. This was one of her quirks that really annoyed him, but at the same time, he loved it.
"I don't want a coffee, I want a sip of yours. Pleeeease!" She pouted, making him groan and offer her the cup. She took a mouthful and grinned at him happily, focusing on Henry and his friends again. How he loved to see her smile...
"I didn't say anything. But, man, this secret is hard to keep." Jasper confessed, as the two adults circled the cash register and walked over to the group.
"Ahem, excuse us." (y/n) sauntered over to them, a playful spring in her step.
"Henry, Charlotte, we need you guys to go down to the basement and mop the walls." Ray lied, thinking of anything that would get them to leave Jasper alone.
"Since when do we have to mop the walls?" Henry looked at them both with suspicious eyes. They were up to something.
"Since now. You'll find buckets and mops ready to go down there." (y/n) smiled at them, grabbing Ray's mug and taking another drink, making him purse his lips in slight annoyance.
"But our friend Jasper's here and--" Charlotte tried to excuse them as the young woman gave Ray the cup back, but he was having none of it.
"Oh hey, no worries. We'll keep your little friend company." Ray smirked, looking at Jasper, who felt a little awkward. Reluctantly, Henry and Charlotte shuffled off to the elevator, giving Jasper some hand gestures to tell him to keep the secret, no matter what.
"I think something's up with those two." (y/n) smiled at Ray, hinting to Jasper that they were talking about Henry and Charlotte's 'relationship'.
"I don't know anything." The boy said, trying to take his mind off blabbing by playing with a piece of junk on sale.
"You sure? They seem like, I don't know like there's something they're not telling us." Ray said thoughtfully, he and the young woman walking around Jasper in an attempt to get him to feel nervous. And it was definitely working.
"Well, I can't help you." Jasper stayed strong, so (y/n) knew it was time to pull out the big guns.
Nudging Ray, she nodded her head to the floor, so he used his strength to lift a solid gold, jewel-encrusted bucket. It was everything Jasper had dreamed about and more.
"Oh dear god, what is that!?" The boy cried, having never seen such a beautiful bucket in his life.
"Oh, you mean this old thing? This is just King Tut's golden bucket." She said to the teen with an innocent face. Bribery was a classic way to get someone to squeal.
"It is? I've read about that bucket. It's over 3000 years old!" Jasper breathed, taking in how the gold glinted under the light.
"Is it?" Ray folded his arms, pretending like he and (y/n) hadn't spent all of last night curled up on his bed trying to find the world's best bucket.
"Well, who'd have thunk it? We just want thirty bucks for it." The young woman said in an airy voice, causing Jasper to go into a meltdown.
"Thirty? I could have thirty bucks by tomorrow. I can sell my grandmother's wheelchair!" Ray smirked at how desperate the boy was, he was walking right into their trap.
"So you'll really sell it to me?" The boy asked the adults, who shrugged in response.
"Uhhh, no," Ray said, seeing the heartbreak grow on Jasper's face. (y/n) felt a bit bad at how they were using dirty tactics, but she knew that criminals didn't play fair, and they had to test Jasper thoroughly.
"No?" Jasper cried, the three of them unaware that Henry and Charlotte had turned on the supercomputer's camera link to the store. They watched in horror as their bosses teased and tortured Jasper to spill. They even had his biggest weakness: a bucket.
"See, here's the thing, we think you know something about Henry and Charlotte. Like...maybe a little secret." (y/n) leaned in close to Jasper's ear, the boy starting to feel the pinch now.
"Yeah, I think Henry and Charlotte have a secret, and I think you know what it is." Ray juggled the bucket enticingly between his hands, (y/n) nodding along with his words. She could see the boy was starting to crack, all they needed to do now was go in for the kill.
"And we're not going to sell King Tut's golden bucket to a boy who keeps secrets from us." The woman said. Ray put his arm around her so it could settle on her hip, gloating when Jasper's lip quivered. They were an intimidating pair and Jasper found it incredibly hard to stand up to them.
"But that's not fair!" Jasper whined and pouted.
"Mmmm. Life isn't fair, son." Ray pouted back. If life was fair, he would've carried (y/n) off into the sunset by now and they'd be married happily ever after. But life's a bitch and then you die.
"You know what life often is?" (y/n) smiled at Jasper sweetly.
"What?" He replied with a shred of hope.
"Unfair." She blanked him, thinking about all the time's destiny had screwed her over. If life was fair, she'd be a supermodel or a pageant winner and she'd turn Ray's eye her way, even though he'd been hers and vice versa for years.
Jasper groaned in pain, his heart in a constant battle with his brain; bucket or secret, secret or bucket? Charlotte and Henry were entranced by the monitor in the Man Cave, praying he'd stay strong for them.
"Just tell us what you know and you'll be walking outta here with King Tut's golden bucket right in your sweaty hands." Ray insisted, tempting him like a devil on his shoulder. He moved the bucket around in his hands, Jasper losing his self-control.
"Can I tell you a secret about someone else?" Jasper tried, but it was a poor shot.
"No, we don't care about anyone else." (y/n) yawned, trailing her manicured nail around one of the jewels.
"My mom steals butter from restaurants." Jasper divulged, not that it had the slightest bit of difference.
"Don't care." Ray said without emotion, not giving a shit about a woman who stole stupid things from restaurants.
"Will you please sell me the bucket?" The boy put his hands together as he begged.
"Tell us the secret!" Ray yelled, as Jasper grunted and strained from the pressure. It was on the tip of his tongue, so he started running around the shop groaning and shouting before he left the establishment completely.
Henry and Charlotte breathed a sigh of relief as Ray clenched his fists in frustration. They so nearly had him.
"What the hell just happened?" (y/n) asked, trying to process that a teen boy had just had a nervous breakdown in her workplace and had run from the store like he was in actual pain.
~A couple of days later ~
Henry and (y/n) were finishing up the cleaning, sweeping the floors and doing some final dusting. They had been working hard, leaving Ray to grumble and sulk to Charlotte. However, their attention was diverted from their work when a notification dinged on Charlotte's phone.
"Who's that?" Henry asked, propping his broom up as he stopped sweeping.
"Jasper, he just got off the bus and he's on his way here." She replied, scanning through the message rapidly.
"Ohhh. You mean our friend who's kept the secret we told him?" Henry poked (y/n) and leered at Ray, annoying the two adults.
"That's the Jasper." Charlotte played into his mockery, smirking at both of them.
"The deal is he's got to keep your fake secret for a whole week." Ray reminded them, knowing that there was still time for Jasper to bottle it.
"Only two days to go." Henry fought back. He thought Jasper could do it, he had faith in his friend.
"Only two days to go." (y/n) mimicked the boy in a childish voice, which was unlike her, but her stubbornness meant she wanted to win. The doorbell tinkled as Jasper entered Junk-N-Stuff, ready to stay strong.
"Hey, guys." He greeted, strolling into the store carefully.
"Oh, hey." Charlotte smiled, also ready to prove her bosses wrong.
"Come to hang?" Henry asked his best friend.
"Nope, I'm here to talk to your boss and his girlfriend." He said in a stern voice as Ray and (y/n) faltered from what he called them. Panic alarms were ringing in their heads and they quickly shook their heads in denial, although their red cheeks were something of a giveaway.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, you've us all wrong. She's just my friend."
"Oh god, no, no, no. He's not my boyfriend, as if!" The words tumbled from the lips automatically, their sentences jumbling into one long mess of lies and suppressed feelings. They both avoided any eye contact as Henry and Charlotte signalled to Jasper that mentioning any feelings in front of them both was a colossal no-no.
"W-whatever. I'm here to talk to your boss and his...friend." Jasper corrected himself, but he still maintained his confident tone.
"Well, gooooood." Ray replied, settling into the 'friendzone' once again, even as it stung his and (y/n)'s hearts.
"We like to talking to you." (y/n) smiled with a high-pitched voice, but it didn't reach her eyes. She was happy to move on from the awkward moment, despite the fact 'friend' made everything seem so bittersweet.
"Uhh, well actually, Ray and (y/n) are really busy and we got a lot of--" Henry tried to get Jasper to leave, but Ray could see that the curly-haired boy was looking for a fight, and boy, he would give him one.
"Hey! Henry, Charlotte, please go down to the basement and..." Ray interrupted him, trying to think of some humdrum work that would keep the kids busy.
"...Rotate the light bulbs." (y/n) snapped her fingers as the thought came into her mind. It was pointless, but it would take them ages to do every light in the Man Cave, so it was perfect for them.
"Rotate the light bulbs?" Henry looked at her weirdly as the woman lifted herself onto the counter.
"What does that even mean?" Charlotte added, rolling her eyes at their lame attempts to get rid of them.
"It means we want you to unscrew all the light bulbs and then screw them back in again," Ray explained like it was the best job in the world.
"Darn, I wish I was as lucky as you kids, getting to do all of the light bulbs down there! Oh well, off ya go!" (y/n) grinned at them with a fake, sugary voice and Henry and Charlotte did as they were told. But they managed to get a few hand signals in as they walked to the elevator, reminding Jasper again to keep his mouth shut.
(y/n) slid off the counter and circled it so Jaspar could stand and look at them as they faced off.
"Hello." The boy said cooly, but Ray had called the bluff of countless supervillains and that meant he was a seasoned arguer.
"I know why you're here. You've been thinking about something." Ray mocked him.
"Dreaming and thinking...about this." (y/n) used all her strength to lift the bucket, passing it to Ray who held it like it was weightless.
"I want that bucket," Jasper told them confidently.
"We know you do," Ray replied, rolling the metal object in his hands.
"$60. That's double what you asked." The boy stated, slamming the money down on the counter, but Ray just sighed.
"Okay, we were very clear. We know you have a secret. If you want us to sell you this bucket, you better start talking." Ray snapped his fingers in Jasper's face, bulking up his muscles to intimidate Jasper.
"I will not tell you my secret. This is a simple business transaction. My $60 for King Tut's bucket." The kid said firmly, pleasing his friends down in the Man Cave, who were watching again on the computer.
"No deal." (y/n) snapped, causing Jasper to groan as Ray took the bucket away. The thing was worth 3000 bucks. As if she'd sell it for sixty and not get any juicy information with it.
"Come onnnnn!" The teen cried.
"Tell you what, you can have it for free," Ray told him in a sing-song voice. This was his trump card, his best tactic, something he knew Jasper would find irresistible.
"Free?" The boy breathed, gazing at the bucket longingly. It was funny really, he looked at buckets like Ray looked at (y/n), when she wasn't looking, of course.
"Just tell me your little secret." Ray leaned in close to him, his voice sounding like Yoda or possibly Gollum. This was really tricky for Jasper, on one hand, he had the bucket of his dreams nearly in his grasp, but on the other, he had his solemn promise to his friends that he would tell. What to do?
"What's it gonna be, boy? Bucket...for...the secret."  (y/n) hissed at Jasper, holding Ray's wrist so she could edge the bucket closer to the teen's face with every word.
"One sec!" Jasper groaned, jogging off to a corner and zapping his armpit with a taser. He groaned in agony, making the two adults lean back in horror. Should they be worried about this kid? Even Henry and Charlotte were freaked out by his drastic actions.
Jasper let out a deep breath, the pain refocusing his mind. Tucking the taser back into his pants, he cricked his neck and waltzed back up to the counter, ready for round two.
"I will not tell you my secret." He reiterated, Henry and Charlotte encouraging his commitment from downstairs. Ray grumbled and put the bucket down, deciding to switch tactics.
"Hold on, we'll be right back." The large man led his helper by the hand, her stopping briefly so he could yank the bucket from under Jasper's nose. He didn't want to lose his only negotiation point, so it was best to take it with them.
They sloped off through the backroom and went down the elevator. When it's doors opened, Henry and Charlotte were sat on the couch facing them, looking extremely smug. The adults chuckled sarcastically at how pleased they looked with themselves.
"Oh, you guys think you're soooo smart," Ray said, walking up and over the back of the couch whilst (y/n) just walked around it. She huffed at how the teens smirked at them; they may have won the battle, but they certainly hadn't won the war.
"No, we think we're so right." Henry gloated, he and his friend leaning of the back of the coach so they could see what their opponents were doing.
"You two are just mad because we proved Jasper can keep a secret." Charlotte pointed out, making Ray frown.
"Yeah, he's so good at keeping secrets, he has to electrocute himself to stop talking." She quipped as she leaned against the wall next to the snack machine with Ray.
"One french fry." The man said, smacking his hand against the screen so he could say his order. The machine complied, and the woman took the single fried potato between her finger and thumb.
"Wait, what are you going to do with that french fry?" Charlotte looked at them both with worry, thinking it was all part of some conspiracy to break Jasper's resolve. But, it wasn't. (y/n) snapped it in half and gave one piece to Ray to eat as she scoffed her own. They swaggered back to the elevator, intent on finishing this thing.
"Aw, guys, don't feel bad just because..." Henry started as the friends turned around just in time for them to see...
"We were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong!" The kids repeated Ray's song from earlier, copying his dance too.
"This isn't over until we say it's over." (y/n) told them, hitting the button with her elbow so she and Ray could step back into the elevator.
"Don't count your Jaspers before they hatch," Ray said mysteriously, tossing the bucket between his hands as the doors slid shut.
"The hell does that mean?" (y/n), asked him in a confused voice once they were moving.
"I don't know," Ray said honestly, making her giggle a bit at how silly he was. Reaching the shop floor again, she drained her face of emotion and they stepped back out into Junk-N-Stuff, where Jasper was absent-mindedly counting his money.
"All right. I have $100 here. If you'll--" Jasper tried to bargain, but Ray jumped in before he could go any further. It was time to play smart...
"Stop. We'll sell it to you for ten bucks." Ray told the boy, who was really perplexed at the offer.
"Just $10?" He gasped, as Henry and Charlotte panicked in the Man Cave. This must be their dastardly plan to get him to blab once and for all.
"Well, aren't you going to buy the bucket?" (y/n) asked, noticing his hesitance.
"I'm not telling you my secret," Jasper repeated sternly, making the adults hold their hands up in innocence.
"You don't need to," Ray said, placing his trap.
"Henry and Charlotte told us everything down in the basement." (y/n) played along, pretending to sort out some documentation as Ray messed about with some junk behind the counter.
"Really? They told you they're boyfriend and girlfriend?" Jasper asked, not realising he'd been caught out.
"Noooo, but you just did!" Ray smirked and (y/n) was glad they'd won, but victory came with a bitter taste. Ray laughed in the boy's face as he cried out in anguish, Henry and Charlotte stamping their feet in pure irritation.
"We were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong!" Ray bragged into the camera that was showing the store in the Man Cave before walking to the elevator to rub it into Henry and Charlotte's faces.
"I deserve this!"Jasper said to himself as he electrocuted himself with his taser. (y/n) felt rotten about the whole situation and she wasn't going to let the kid hurt himself for his mistake.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, kid, give me that!" She said, running over to him so she could confiscate the weapon.
"But, I broke my promise." Jasper whimpered, making her feel sorry for him. It was a mean trick that they'd played and she knew that just because he'd been outsmarted, it didn't mean he was dumb.
"And your friends will forgive you. Something tells me it wasn't that big of a secret." She smiled at him gently, knowing that Henry and Charlotte were probably 'breaking up' right that very minute. The curly-haired boy sighed and said goodbye to her, leaving the shop with a sombre stomp.
Going down the elevator, (y/n) arrived in the Man Cave to see Ray doing his victory dance on the couch.
"What are you doing?" She asked, looking at him with her arms folded.
"Celebrating." He replied, only stopping briefly to answer the question before boogieing again. She sighed at how he was behaving in front of Henry and Charlotte, who plodded to the elevator in a silent, but foul mood.
"You ever hear of modesty in success?" She questioned as he lept down in front of her and started to dance with her, her hands in his.
"Just dance with me." He told her, enjoying the way their bodies moved together in a clumsy rhythm.
"But there's no music." She frowned, wondering how he was able to jive and step in time when there was no beat to follow.
"There doesn't have to be when it's just us." He told her with a sweet smile on his face, sweeping her across the Man Cave.
It was true when they were together, they made their own music, their own harmony, and it was the softest melody they had ever heard.

OMG!! It's finally here! Season 3 is finally here! After waiting one year, three months, and eleven days, we finally get to see the grand return of the Warners and Pinky and The Brain for all new adventures! I watched the first two episodes of this season, and boy, it was a doozy! Anyways, here are my opinions of these two episodes.
Episode 1: Honestly this was a mixed bag overall. The Warner segments were only okay while the Pinky and The Brain segment was great. Honestly, "Season 3 and WB" was kind of slowly paced and boring. The segment from the 2nd season that came before this was also pretty slow and boring. The Warners felt like background characters and the drama felt forced. I'll give them points for giving Nora Rita Norita a bigger personality and there were some clever movie parodies, but it felt slow. There were also some gross-out jokes that were super weird. There weren't many laughs to be found here, also. "How To: Friendship" was a nice follow-up to the previous segment. While I don't think it was as good as the first Pinky's How To, it still managed to be a funny and engaging watch. I feel like that this season is going to focus more on Pinky, since he basically had more screen time than Brain in these first two episodes. Pinky was very funny and I love how much he cares for Brain. His apology song to Brain was hilarious (and Pinky surprisingly has better editing skills than me!) Pinky playing around with Brain using the filters was cute and him moving his hand to pat Brain on the head when he was frustrated was just freaking adorable. I also liked the ending when Brain compliments Pinky for essentially saving him from an explosion. Also, this is the episode where Pinky makes a macaroni photo of him kissing Brain!!! And Brain keeps the picture even after tearing it away!! This was probably the cutest segment from the reboot and I was squealing like a little girl the entire time! There have already been more Brinky moments in these first two episodes than in the entire first season! I can't wait for more!
Episode 2: This was a slight improvement over the first episode but not by too much. "Soda-Pressed" was kind of interesting and Dot did have her shining moments. But all that character growth just goes down the drain at the end. The song in this episode was only okay, and I'm more excited for other songs to come later on. It was very slowly paced and only had a few decent laughs. This was an okay experience. "A Starbox is Born" is probably the best Starbox and Cindy segment but that's not saying much. There were some cute moments and the animation was beautiful but that's about it. I also got a laugh out of this segment so I consider that a win. It still had some slow pacing, but it thankfully didn't run on for too long. "Royal Flush" was a pretty good segment. There was some clever satire, good jokes, and a surprise song that I really enjoyed. I thought that this episode would be focused more on the poker game that Brain was in, but it was more focused on Pinky and his feelings. Pinky looked stunning in that dress and I liked the bond he formed with the Meagan Markle parody. The song they sang was a spoof of "A Whole New World" and it reminded me of the song from "Pinky's Dream House" (An episode of Pinky, Elmyra, and The Brain). This song was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. Also, Pinky is not straight! He literally envisions Brain in the stars during the parody of a romantic song when the Meagan Markle character was singing about her husband-to-be. Pinky is clearly enamored with his friend, and Brain hopefully will recuperate these feelings. I think the writers are hinting at a little something here! Anyways, I really enjoyed this segment, though it went in a different direction than I had thought. (Also, when the horse appears in the stable at the beginning, did anyone get nervous and think Phar Fignewton was back from the bin of dead Animaniacs characters? I sure did!)
Anyways, I think that the Pinky and The Brain segments are very strong, while the Warner segments were just okay. I still have eight episodes to watch, so maybe my opinions will change for the better or for the worse.

Some speculation regarding the UNIT spinoff, given what we've seen of UNIT in the anniversary specials:
I think it's fairly safe to assume that Shirley and Mel and the Vlekth are all going to have roles in the show. A lot of time was spent establishing them.
Donna seems a fairly likely addition, given that she has a salary negotiation with Kate in the episode
As far as the Doctor's (either Fourteen or Fifteen) involvement, we might be able to guess based on the spinoffs from RTD's prior tenure:
Torchwood starred Captain Jack and had Martha guest for a couple of episodes, but the Doctor never directly appeared and the Torchwood cast didn't crossover with the parent show until the end of Doctor Who's fourth season.
The Sarah Jane Adventures starred Sarah Jane Smith (go figure) and Ten and Eleven were in a handful of episodes between the two of them across the show's five seasons. It also featured the Brigadier and Jo Grant in a couple of episodes.
So RTD's prior spinoffs have treated a crossover with the Doctor as a Thing, not to be squandered. Granted, Donna has a Doctor living in her yard, so he's more immediately available than is usual for the Doctor, but it's not like it takes that much more effort to justify a traveling Doctor showing up. And the real-life circumstances, like filming schedules, that made it difficult for the actor playing the Doctor to crossover are still a thing. Ncuti's obviously busy with Doctor Who itself, and will presumably take other roles during DW's filming breaks. David's a busy a guy who will hopefully be filming Good Omens 3 sooner rather than later.
So--and this is assuming Donna is even part of the cast--I think it's very likely we'll see a tension between Donna and the rest of UNIT.
UNIT doesn't know where he's gone off to. They know that Donna knows (at least where Fourteen is). Donna herself told her own daughter not to bug the Doctor about going places, she's definitely not going to let UNIT drag him into things. And it doesn't seem like Fifteen left any way to contact him. They may or may not also be aware that Mel knows where he is (but they'll probably suspect she does regardless). This saves the appearance of the Doctor for Big Events, like a season finale.
This serves a few purposes. One, it lets the UNIT show stand on its own feet without needing to be propped up by the parent show, which is always important in crossovers. Second, internal to the narrative, it lets the cast prove their capabilities without needing the Doctor around, which might be extra important in UNIT's case because we so frequently see them either asking the Doctor for help or being THEIR backup (if the Doctor isn't outright suspicious of them). Finally, it gives enough space from one of THE most popular actors to play the character so that Ncuti Gatwa can be in the role without people going "Well what's going on with Fourteen."

It follows the Fisher King episodes. And with this chapter we shall officially start with Season 2 of the series! :) Hope you enjoy!
Takes place during Episode 22, Season 1 & Episode 1, Season 2
"So since you won't be allowed any cell service, no contact or anything for the next few days, please please, be careful." Evelyn smothered a smile as she turned her back to her mentor while she placed another set of clothes into her suitcase. She glanced over her shoulder to watch Penelope standing at the doorway, arms crossed over her chest.
"Penny, I'll be fine! I'll get the job done, get some extra cash, come back and spend it on some new baking equipment, if I don't already have it." The red head trailed off as she stared into the distance, thinking of all the shiny new things she'd buy. Her mentor however seemed to still be concerned about the no contact issue.
"Just be careful sweetie. I won't be there to watch your back you know that." The blonde pursed her lips, looking rather miffed about the fact. Evelyn nodded.
"Don't worry I will. Scout's honor!" Her words, and the salute seemed to reassure Penelope as she reached out to place a loud kiss to the shorter girl's cheek, prompting her to scrunch her features in mock playfulness.
"Have fun then honey." She said as she pulled back. "Show them what your mentor has been teaching you."
Her protégé gave a nod and a confident smile. "I'll make you proud Penelope!"
                                              ————————–
Pursing his lips Reid stood at the elevator door of the bullpen, watching as Evelyn said her goodbyes to the rest of the Team. He'd offered to see her off, one that she'd about to decline at first but sensing the urgency in his tone had given in and nodded. Now as he watched her approach him, slinging her bag over her shoulder he couldn't help but feel that this was a bad idea.
"Ready to see me off Spencer?" She asked, once she reached him. He nodded reaching out to press the elevator button. If Evelyn noticed his silence, she didn't comment on it. The two stepped into the elevators, standing inches apart. After the elevator began its descent. Still neither spoke.
Finally Reid cleared his throat. "I'm going to Vegas during our two week break." They still had a week till their vacation, but already most of them had made plans. Evelyn turned to raise an eyebrow at him, smiling slightly.
"Vegas?" Realization dawned and she smirked. "Awfully close to L.A. isn't it Spencer?" The teasing tone of her voice had him giving her a glare, to which she quickly raised her hands in a surrendering motion.
"Its nothing like that Evelyn. Nothing could've ever happened between us. Besides its been months." The red head looked sheepish and slightly nervous at his tone. Unconsciously she took a step away from her teammate, something that Reid noticed and instantly felt bad for snapping at her.
"Sorry, won't mention it again." The red head quickly stepped out of the elevator once the doors opened with Reid following after her. He was about a foot or so behind her when he suddenly reached out to catch her wrist, just as they stepped outside the building. Evelyn glanced up at him in surprise and astonishment. Reid understood her emotions. He never liked touching people. Especially their hands. Granted it was her wrist, it was still some skin.
"I'm sorry for snapping. I'm just…" He trailed off as words failed him, though his mouth remained open. Though there was confusion in her gaze, the red head still managed to smile. Her hand moved to grip his, giving him a reassuring squeeze.
"I don't know what it is you have to tell me Spence. And I don't care if you don't tell me." Her words made him lower his head, half with embarrassment, half from shame. Squeezing his hand once more, she urged him to look at her, by tilting her head down to meet his gaze. She said something that was drowned out by the sound of an approaching car. She spoke so softly. But as he watched her walk away to the car that came to pick her, he couldn't help but feel an ounce of strength settle within him as he watched the memory of her replay in the back of his head for the rest of the day.
"I'm here for you, Spence."
Settling into the car, Evelyn looked out of the tinted windows, smiling at the sight of her friend still standing there. Wishing she could wave to him, or even give him a big hug, she settled for a quick press of her hand against the cool glass. Though not the hand that had just held his. That hand was squeezed shut, still feeling warm from having gripped his for more then a few seconds.
And Evelyn wanted to relish warmth that made her smile all through the ride, a soft look in her blue gaze.
                                              ————————–
"The youngest has the key." JJ muttered under her breath as she stood in front of the evidence board gazing at the aforementioned key as it lay in the evidence bag.
"I don't get it. The youngest out of all of us is Evelyn." The media liaison continued, glancing up at Reid in slight confusion. It was Morgan who answered.
"Since Giles hacked into the systems, and had all our locations and addresses it would explain how the Unsub knew to send it to Reid instead of Evelyn." Reid pursed his lips, briefly wondering how things would be if Evelyn were here.
"Probably why he didn't mention her in his video either. Since she is a part of the Team and everything." Elle commented, trying her best to fight the heaviness that made her eyelids droop every few seconds.
Hotch, who had just walked in after talking to Gideon, sat in his chair, picking up a file. "Well she is safe, which is a good thing." Their superior muttered, his attention already on the papers within the file.
"Either he has no interest in her or he just decided that she shouldn't be part of the quest." The words were followed by a sound of chair scraping against the floor as Morgan stood to get himself some coffee.
"Lets hope it's both." The entire Team lifted their heads to glance at the person who'd spoken, surprised by the relief in the tone. Oblivious to the looks, Reid stood in front of the board, arms crossed, a slight frown on his face as he regarded the clues they'd already put up on the board.
                                                 ————————–
As Elle stepped into her house, she was greeted by the sight of an unexpected figure waiting for her.
"Evelyn? What're you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be away on the secret assignment." She could see the younger woman hadn't slept properly in days. There were bags under her eyes, and her hair was in complete disarray, some strands even falling out of her pony tail. Evelyn nodded.
"I was! But then I got this letter saying you'd been arrested and were put under house arrest as soon as you came back from Jamaica. The assignment finished early and I came home as soon as I could." Her worry was laced in her voice as she watched the other woman collapse into the window seat, exhausted.
"I wasn't." The red head quickly moved to sit down beside Elle.
Her tone was equal parts worried and curious as she asked. "Whats going on Elle?"
Elle glanced at her friend and despite wanting to explain everything, another wave of exhaustion hit her and she had to prevent herself from falling forward onto the floor. "I want to explain everything Eve, really I do, but I haven't slept in nearly two days. I gotta sleep. Why don't you go down to the office? They'll explain everything." Evelyn bit her lower lip before nodding.
"Alright. I'll go there right now. You get some sleep then." The red head quickly stood and made her way to the front door, seeing as Elle had entered form the backdoor.
"Thanks." Elle called, prompting the other girl to glance over her shoulder have a parting smile and wave, disappearing from sight around the corner. Elle moved to lay her head on one of the pillows, sighing in relief as she allowed the tiredness she'd been holding at bay to take complete hold of her. Elle having been half-asleep hadn't heard the thud of the body hitting the floor.
Neither Agents were aware of another presence in the house. One that held a gun in one hand, and a syringe that was now empty as he stared at the unmoving figure of Agent Evelyn Richardson on the floor.
                                                 ————————–
The remaining Agents of the BAU quickly made their way to the phone at Agent Greenaway's desk.
"Gideon." The man spoke as a way of greeting as soon as he had pressed the button.
"What I had to do was not my fault." The voice was hoarse, gravelly as it came through the speakers.
"Excuse me?" Gideon cut in, obviously a little confused. And afraid.
"It was distasteful and barbaric." The man on the other line continued, as if he hadn't been interrupted.
"Who is this?" Gideon demanded, his tone authoritative.
"No one else had to be hurt." Hotch frowned at how almost desperate the other person sounded.
"Call yourself 'The Fisher King'?"
"I told you there were rules."
"I'm actually more interested in exactly how you got all those burns." Gideon retorted, though the man wasn't thrown off by the rapid questioning.
"Remember this next time you decide to step outside my instructions. Agent Greenaway did not have to die like that." Alarmed looks passed between the four people standing around the phone, which instantly gave way to worry.
But the Unsub wasn't finished.
"And do not worry about Agent Richardson." A deathly silence followed the man's words. "She is safe. For now." He continued. "But if you break the rule one more time, I cannot guarantee her safety. Or her life."
The line went dead.
"He has her?! He has Evelyn?!" Penelope nearly shrieked almost instantly, eyes wide and tearful as she did her best to keep her voice down. Gideon instantly met Hotch's gaze and the two nodded before the latter spoke.
"This conversation never happened." His words caused both Reid and Garcia to stare at him in bewilderment, though Reid's shifted to one of understanding.
Garcia, however, demanded answers. "What?"
Hotch lowered his voice as he spoke. "If anyone outside of our team even finds out about Evelyn being kidnapped, they will take us off the case." Reid nodded in agreement, pursing his lips.
"But-"
"If that happens, he will kill Evelyn." There was something resembling resignation in the young genius's tone as he spoke. Garcia didn't speak this time, simply nodding.
"We need to go and check on Elle. Reid? Garcia? Find the book, unscramble that code. Hotch and I will go to Elle's place right now. We'll contact JJ and Morgan on the way."
With that the four of them split, fear and worry gripping their hearts as they did. Though other emotions seemed to be at the forefront as well.
Anger. Despair. Sorrow. Love.
                                              ————————–
Elle had been shot and was fighting for her life. At least they knew where she was and how she was doing. Evelyn on the other hand. The thought of the red head caused Morgan to shoot past yet another signal, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel. JJ reached out to lay a gentle, reassuring hand on his shoulder, which the other Agent barely acknowledged as they both drove back to the BAU, having gotten the information that they needed. There were tears in JJ's eyes, which she did her best to keep at bay as she thought of her two friends. Two of the most amazing people she had met. One of whom she was much closer to then the other. At the thought of the red head JJ heaved a shuddering breath, thinking back on the very long and deep conversation she had had with her once they'd gotten back from Los Angeles. They could only hope they would be able to catch the son of a bitch and make him pay for what he had done.
                                              ————————–
In a dark room eyelids fluttered as they finally opened. Only to be met with a pitiful sight. Blurriness all around her. Someone had taken her glasses. A low groan fell from her lips as, with trembling arms, she pushed herself to sit up.
"Are you alright?" Eyes that could barely make out anything in the dark, flickered in the direction of the voice. "Whose there?" Her voice was hoarse from lack of use.
"I'm Rebecca." The words were followed by a series of coughs, ones that made Evelyn flinch with worry. "I'm a prisoner like you." The voice responded. Her heart plummeted in her stomach and her hands trembled. Pushing herself up from the bed she was laying on the red head raised a hand to her forehead and cradled it there, trying to get her bearings.
"My glasses…." Evelyn trailed off once the other girl responded. "You didn't have any when you came in." Disappointment flooded her as she sighed. Her bag wasn't around her body, neither was her badge in her pocket. She could only assume the person who had knocked her out had taken it.
Finally gaining some semblance of normalcy the red head reached a reassuring hand out to the girl, which she felt her take. "Don't worry Rebecca. My friends will find us." The girl let out an almost relieved whimper as she allowed her head to rest on Evelyn's shoulder. Evelyn nearly jumped at the heat that was radiating off the girl. Clearly she was very very sick. As the girl sobbed, Evelyn wrapped her arm around her, pulling her close to provide warmth to her shivering frame, hoping and praying for her Team to find her soon.
                                              ————————–
Hotch walked in with a cup of coffee. His third one in the last two hours. But he wasn't keeping count. He was more worried about his team. One of which was lying open on an operating table and fighting for her life. The other who was missing. He briefly wondered how Evelyn would've been taken away from her assignment when it was so heavily guarded. The voice message he had played once his phone had re-charged explained everything. Apparently she had finished early and the hysteric voice of his youngest team member was still echoing in his ear as she demanded to know what had happened to Elle in Jamaica. Since her cell was still confiscated, she didn't have any other number memorized and had called him. Hotch was ready to kick himself. If he had gotten to her in time, she wouldn't have been taken like she was. As he began another trip around the waiting room, he passed Gideon who was lost in his own thoughts which were a mix between a strong brown haired woman and a shy yet eager red head, one smiling confidently at him, the latter with a smile of her own. Though this one was of happiness and relief. A smile she'd worn when Gideon decided to listen to her story and offer his help with her sister. He hoped he wouldn't fail her. That he could still save her.
                                              ————————–
"So you've been here for two years?" Evelyn asked, her voice low as she did, not wanting any hidden microphones to hear her. She felt Rebecca nod.
"Yeah, I was sixteen when I decided to ran away from my adopted parents. I didn't know a week of being away would turn to years." A small sob escaped the distress girl. In the time they had been sitting together, Evelyn had managed to coax the girl into eating a little bit of chicken their captor had brought. And though her vision was blurry and unfocused she still managed to see where they were.
And having someone explain to her didn't hurt.
"As soon as we get out of here, we'll get you a good doctor." The red head could only reassure the younger girl, though as night fell outside she could feel an inkling of worry and doubt settle into the pit of her stomach as well, prompting her to bite her lower lip on more then one occasion. Her head was aching from her lack of glasses and she could feel her own hunger pangs starting to become unbearable. But she didn't want to eat. Not when someone as sick as Rebecca needed all the strength she could get. Though it had been hours since the red head had had anything to eat.
As Rebecca was hit with another bought of coughs, all Evelyn could do was hold her trembling frame, trying to steady her frail weak figure.
                                              ————————–
As he sat in around the table in the evidence room, Reid couldn't help but go through all the information he had written to his mother in those letters. There was just so much. And most of it wasn't even information. They were just random facts and thoughts about him and his work, the books he read, and of course his team. He'd talked about his team a lot. Stating their likes and dislikes, their hopes and dreams at times. Even future plans. Cases. He pursed his lips as Evelyn came to mind. He'd, of course, spoken about her to his mother, why wouldn't he? She was one of his closest friends. They shared an understanding when it came to social norms and such. Though he was more likely to seclude himself away on purpose, Evelyn was mostly painfully shy. A quality he had always found endearing. Sighing he ran a hand down his face just as Penelope entered the room as well. The two shared a brief look, with the latter conveying her understanding of his distress. She was the only one who knew about his mother so far. But Reid had a feeling they would all know soon enough. And as Penelope prayed and prayed for both Elle and Evelyn's safe return Reid couldn't help but blame himself for what had happened so far.
                                              ————————–
She was safe. Evelyn was safe. She was safe and in his arms.
The fire raged behind him as all of them quickly ran out of the house and onto the road. Hotch was calling for another ambulance as well as a fire truck, while Morgan was keeping a firm grip on Rebecca as he made his way to the ambulance that was already there.
Evelyn was clutching Reid as he made his way towards one of the cars they'd arrived in, opening the front door to seat her inside. "I'm alright Spence." The red head reassured the blurry figure of her friend as he looked her over for any injuries. She was only covered in soot and her cardigan was gone from where she had draped it over Rebecca to keep her warm. Otherwise the red head was fine. Her skin felt itchy and she knew that was from the soot and smoke. Suddenly everything came into view as her glasses slid back into their place. Evelyn blinked as she focused on Spencer's face and how close it was to her own. They held one another's gaze for a good few seconds, with Spencer's hands cradling her head, and her own gripping his wrists as if to reassure herself that he was there. That this wasn't a dream.
Spencer shifted forward, mouth opening to say something when he grimaced and hissed. Instantly the moment was broken to be replaced by worry on Evelyn's part as she watched her team member glance down at his thigh which looked like it was….
                                              ————————–
"Burnt! Spencer, you were hurt and you just stood there to make sure I was alright." Evelyn's voice was chiding as she stood in front of him. Having been declared fit to go, the red head had raced through a shower and change of clothes after which she'd arrived at the office, only to be smothered by an ecstatic Penelope and JJ. Gideon had smiled at her, as had Hotch. Morgan had been the one to sweep her up in a hug that could rival Penelope's. And after being assured of Elle's condition, Spencer had offered to get her a sandwich from the office canteen. Penelope, had demanded Morgan tell her everything that had happened and dragged him off to her office to repair and talk. Gideon and Hotch walked off to recount everything that had happened to their Superiors, while JJ held a press conference.
"It was the least I could do Evelyn. You were kidnapped because of me." The other agent replied as they slowly made their way towards the room where the Team met for cases. The red head, having inhaled her sandwich only sighed.
"Spence, it wasn't your fault. And Elle is fine, and I know she wouldn't want you to blame yourself for this. This was out of our hands." Reaching the door of the conference room, Evelyn stopped short, reaching out to gently and tentatively take his hand just as she had done when she left a week ago.
"Look at me." Her voice was soft and pleading, prompting his eyes to meet hers. She smiled at him as her other hand came up to reassuringly place a hand to the side of his face. "Elle is going to be fine Spence. And I'm fine too. See? Not a scratch?" Her hair had been wet when she'd stepped out of her shower, so she'd left them open. And without the severe grip of her pony tail, Spencer could see more of that softness in her that she possessed. Finally sighing the man gave a small nod, the corner of his mouth lifting in a small smile before it dropped and he wrapped his arms around her in a hug. Evelyn gasped in surprise, her arms being pressed to his chest. It took a brief second of her surprise to disappear before she simply snuggled into the embrace, her arms shifting to wrap around his middle, her face buried in his chest, glasses digging into her skin, but she didn't care. Not when the worry and fear of the day was finally starting to slowly disappear from her mind. Little did she know, Spencer was drawing the same comfort from her. Allowing himself to feel the relief that broke inside him like a dam as he held her close.
Diana Reid glanced behind her son at the woman who had just entered.
"Mother? I'd like you to meet someone." He sounded almost nervous as he spoke. And Evelyn felt just as much as she stepped forward once Spencer motioned for her to do so.
"Mother, this is-"
But his mother cut him off. "Evelyn." Both agents blinked not having expecting for Evelyn to be recognized so easily. Diana Reid stood up from her seat on the couch and smiled at the two.
"You didn't think I wouldn't recognize her did you Spence? Hair redder then a ruby, was that how you described her?" His cheeks flushed at his mother's words, while Evelyn's eyes widened behind her wide-framed glasses and she made a face at her friend.
"You compared me to a stone?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Your hair." Her friend was quick to correct her. Evelyn rolled her eyes.
"Whats next? You comparing my eyes to a sapphire?" Spencer looked like he was about to retort but was cut off by his mother.
"A Lapis Lazuli actually."
"Mother!" His voice was more of a squeak then anything as Evelyn stared at Spencer in disbelief. Diana Reid frowned.
"Was that supposed to be a secret? You certainly described her perfectly." His mother's words had a blush creeping up Evelyn's cheek as she stepped out from behind Spencer and gave the woman a sweet smile.
"Its nice to meet you Mrs Reid." The older woman smiled back. "Likewise Evelyn. I would love to stay and chat but I believe I have a small lecture to give." Seeing the slightly crestfallen look the girl wore, Diana continued with a reassuring smile.
"Spencer? Bring Evelyn the next time you come and visit me. I would very much like to have a long chat with her. And perhaps she can bring me some of her famous cookies?" At the mention of her baked good the red head beamed with pride.
"I'll bring a whole batch for you Mrs Reid." The red head said eagerly as she stepped forward. Spencer could only stare, gob smacked.
He had never seen Evelyn warm up to someone so easily.
Still he couldn't help the warm feeling of happiness that rose in his chest as he watched the two women interact and smile at one another. He had always written to his mother how he knew Evelyn and her would get along well. And it seemed he wasn't wrong.
And neither was Diana it seemed. Despite her illness, she had always known there was something else her son wasn't telling her about Evelyn. Something, perhaps, even he didn't know yet. But looking at how he was watching Evelyn as she turned to tell him excitedly of the assignment she had just finished, Diana couldn't help but note the affection the two seemed to hold for each other in their eyes.
An affection she had only ever read about in the love poems of great writers.
It almost felt as if she were seeing something that would overcome a great many other quests.
And Diana Reid couldn't wait to read about it in the letters her son would write her.

like, my problem with series 7 is that in an ideal world it would have been at least three seasons
hear me out
there should have been a full season beginning with Asylum of the Daleks and ending with A Town Called Mercy, depicting the doctor picking up and dropping off Amy and Rory multiple times, and at one point just Amy, tying in with really addressing the Ponds failed-divorce arc. In fact I wouldn't mind would love if this was two seasons. Also maybe seed in the Great Intelligence once or twice, so the threat level of that guy doesn't come out of absolutely nowhere when it finally gets resolved. This doesn't necessarily have to start yet, though.
Because then, of course, the year of the slow invasion should have been a season in and of itself. That opening montage is a great season opener, then set the stage with the cubes, and end the first episode with the Doctor running out in a fit of boredom and frustration, followed by a half season of eleven knocking about on his own (kinda like ten's post-s4 specials: throw River in one to keep the familiar faces, hint at the Tally/the Shakri/Power of Three's Great Big Bad in a way that will feel face-slappingly obvious but only in retrospect, and maybe seed in the Great Intelligence as a proper threat for the first or second time-- could even have another Clara fragment although idk if I'd personally want that).
mid-season Christmas Special is also totally unrelated until the end when it contains That Scene from Power of Three....
then in the second half, the Doctor comes back for the Ponds, and we have half a season of their Anniversary Day Adventures, penultimately ending with them returning to the anniversary party, the confrontation with Brian, and the Doctor staying.
Then the final episode -- or probably final two parter -- begins by showing them all living together, then resolves the slow invasion plotline, giving proper time for the magnitude of a beyond-the-universe, stuff-of-time-lord-legend baddie...
And then, and only THEN, a half season of adventures for the Ponds on their last time out in the TARDIS (of course they don't know that), culminating in TATM and followed by the Snowmen.
At this point, I could accept season 7B as it is, although, if we're really going for ideal world, I'd put another half season of eleven knocking around on his own; looking for the Impossible Girl, and building up the Great Intelligence threat, followed by a full season of eleven and Clara.
There. Ideal total of 5 seasons, and we haven't even talked about the gap between the S7 conclusion and the 50th special (another full season) or all the missing time in season 6B (an elevenriver centric season between 6A and 6B; a whole lot more trio adventures between Night Terrors and the God Complex; and then, of course, at least 200 years of sad eleven on his own (but that pretty much has to be extended universe content) ) or the full season that should exist between s5 and s6, implied at by the specials.... or how much I personally want 10x more of s5 even if it is admittedly pretty tight as it is.... or, in the other direction again, the entire 10+ season long Big Finish range, the Trenzalore Chronicles (give it to me PLEASE).....
And like, I know that this could never have happened because of the scale and commitment involved, and I'm genuinely we got what we did. But 7A is like.... a highlight reel, just enough to communicate that there was this vast sprawling expanse of time.... and I prefer that to cutting the arc short, but I wish we'd gotten to see the show that those handful of episodes did so much to imply the existence of.

i have never watched doctor who a day in my life but could you please explain to me how it works?? because, there are what, thirteen, fourteen doctors? but google says that there are 26 seasons? i had assumed maybe a new doctor per season but I'm just not sure how that works. i know smith and tenant and the woman (sorry she's new) are 10, 11 and something, (sorry) but that's all I know about this seasons wise.
tl;dr - the Doctors all get multiple seasons except for the Eighth (who got a movie) and the Ninth (who just got one). The First Doctor got three seasons and a bit, the Second got two and a bit (S4 was split between the First and Second Doctors), the Third got five, etc.
In 1963, this show called Doctor Who premiered on the BBC. It starred William Hartnell as the Doctor, an alien who can travel through all of time and space in a police box. Hartnell did three and a bit seasons of the show before he ultimately had to retire from the show because of a medical condition (which is explored in the great bio/drama movie An Adventure in Space and Time)
So the BBC was in a pickle. Doctor Who drew in banger ratings and they wanted to keep it going, but how could they do that when their main actor was leaving? So they came up with this thing called regeneration, where the Doctor can change their face and become someone new, eg. the BBC can hire a new actor to play the character and keep the show rolling
So they brought on Patrick Troughton to play the Second Doctor, who stayed for three seasons. Then the Third Doctor came on and stayed for five. The Fourth Doctor stayed for seven, Fifth for three, Sixth for two, and Seventh for three. In total, that's 26 seasons.
Then Doctor Who got axed in 1989 because of poor ratings and some behind the scenes drama at the BBC. Then in 1996, the BBC launched a DW movie starring the Eighth Doctor that was originally intended to be a backdoor pilot for a new American-produced DW tv series. It received.... mixed reviews but ultimately wasn't successful enough in the States to greenlight that new series, so DW went back into hiatus hell for a while.
Then in 2005, Russell T Davies brought back the series again but for real this time. He revived the series, dubbed by the fans 'New Who' vs the old 'Classic Who', with Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler as the companion. He ran for one season before regenerating into the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant. From here, all of the Doctors - Ten, Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen - have had three seasons (and some specials).
So now we're awaiting the new Fourteenth Doctor's specials (which premiere in November) starring, somehow, David Tennant again. These specials don't count as a full season so I'm guessing we can expect Season 14, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor, sometime next year.
One last thing to note - sometimes the fans will differentiate the seasons by referring to Classic episodes as 'seasons' and the New episodes as 'series'. So Season 3 is the 1965 season while Series 3 is the 2007 season, but that's not a hard and fast rule.

Disclaimer: This post is going to be Anti Moffat for anyone who’s reading and is a fan you’ve been warned.
“The Wedding of River Song” is the thirteenth episode and aside from being a boring episode it was, unfortunately, also my least favorite season finale.
The Good: I haven’t watched Classic Who, but I do know the Brigadier is a very important person in the Doctor’s life and I saw his character in one of the episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Having his death in the show to reflect that of the actor’s was incredibly beautiful, and I liked that it seemed to be the moment the Doctor realized it was his time reminding me a lot of Ten and Wilf. The different settings where time is happening all at once looked really cool, and there were some funny jokes especially with Emperor Churchill.
The Bad: I think the reason I feel like I don’t know Amy and Rory that well is b/c instead of developing them as characters for two seasons now we keep getting fake/different versions of them, there’s always a plot twist of “oh actually that wasn’t the real version of them” and frankly it’s tiring. This finale felt like a rehashed poorly done version of previous concepts. All the “voices” saying they’ll help reminded me of everyone thinking of the Doctor at the end of S3, and the different realities reminded me of the end of S5. The Doctor leaving Dorium’s head again in that place was horrible, why not take him to his home or at least some fancy hotel?
The River storyline being the absolute worst:  That comment about how River spends her days in prison and her nights with him was disgusting, if she didn’t really kill him why on earth is the Doctor making sure she’s serving time?? The fact that we’ve seen her slip in and out of prison easily so many times leads to the horrifying implication that the Doctor just takes her out whenever he pleases like she’s some sort of...idk but that was awful. I genuinely did go into Moffat’s era trying to keep an open mind when it came to her character b/c I was under the impression it was going to be an interesting love story with their timelines not matching. But this has fallen apart in the most horrible ways with everything regarding River seemingly being tacked on w/o any actual thought. How in the world did River convince Ten to trust her in the library? He said that she knew his name, but here he didn’t actually tell her his name...unless later he tells her to fulfill that paradox. But even then I really thought that he would grow to love her in his own way, but the way he treated her here was awful “I don’t want to marry you” and “you embarrass me”. The fact that she loves him when he acts like that with her is probably my least favorite thing Moffat could have ever done. On that same note River saying no one loves the Doctor more than her would feel far more impactful if we actually saw them interacting more in a healthy way, instead we’re just constantly told that they are going on trips and we’re to assume they enjoy spending time with each other when on screen I’ve never once gotten the sense that he actually cares for her. She wanted to rewrite time itself instead of killing him which I suppose I could understand her doing if they’d had a more believable love story, but her relationship with him seems more obsessive and toxic than anything. She knew them touching would cause time to move forward and fix itself, but she wouldn’t allow it until he married her essentially blackmailing him. And Eleven only marrying her to whisper his escape plan seemed horribly manipulative as well, it’s obvious it matters far more to her than him and for him to play into that obsession seems really dark. And I’m not even sure if that counts as their wedding if he didn’t tell her his name? I don’t know enough about the lore, but I was under the impression from the library episode that it was a requirement.
The Unresolved: Apparently there’s a bigger story to tell with the Trenzalore stuff.
Overall I feel disappointed, I have now watched six series of DW and my biggest concern is that I was so unbelievably bored during this episode and several others in this series. The Doctor telling Churchill how everything played out felt like someone was reading the script out to me instead of me watching things play out on screen. I had a really rough time getting through these episodes, but I’m still staying optimistic that it was a dud and next series is better. I think the thing I feel the saddest about is that I don’t find myself loving the characters as much as I used to in the past, Amy has really grown on me, but even then I don’t feel the same attachment I do to the other companions I’ve seen.

so uh, adventure time spoilers even though it's been a good decade i guess
elaborating on the tags on that last reblog, i've been goin in hard on marathoning the original adventure time series. i say 'original' because the fionna and cake thing apparently got made into a full-blown series of its own that takes place quasi-post mainline adventure time or something? who knows. been trying to remain spoiler-free
anyway. what the fuck is this show dude.
like i've always heard people mention it gets heavy, but vague memories of what i remember watching as a kid (back when cable was something i had access to, roughly during just seasons one and two) all made it very hard to put aside the original impression i had that it was just some funny quirky thing i used to watch. some fun little show where "mathmatical!" is a family-friendly exclamation for adventure and all swears and expletives are substituted with random g-rated humor
like, willing to bet everyone at this point is at least sorta familiar with the post-apocalyptic setting/backdrop running underneath it all; i remember back in its airtime when everyone treated it as a big deal, how folks here loved to theorize about it before the explicit confirmation in-show
but... now, actually sitting down to watch this all in order, seeing this silly thing slowly turn into this heavy episodic mess about loss, manipulation, the legacy you're expected to leave behind, identity (and a lack of ties to one's own), and god knows what else... the post-apoc theming's much less a Shocking Reveal, and more just... "yeah, that's just the setting. life goes on. this is how we've dealt with the fallout in trying to rebuild society, fixing our mistakes" since s03/s04.
as funny as it feels to get into a long post about a show aimed at kids and teens, we also have literal episodes like [spoilers] finn getting his own dominant arm completely torn off while trying to chase down his absent father, with the only thing stopping him from bleeding out is a mix of Cursed Artifact and Pool Of Healing fantasy tropes, going on to spend the next episode, and i mean the full fucking runtime of the episode [s06e04, "The Tower"], in a dissociative/depressive state, absentmindedly building a tower to the heavens above in some vain revenge-driven attempt to find his father again just so he can rip /his/ arm off as eye-for-an-eye payback, operating off the vague notion the dude escaped earth's orbit and is just 'up there' somewhere. the only thing that stops him and snaps him out of that state is passing out from a lack of oxygen at the elevations he reaches.
like, imagine tuning into a rerun of a random episode of this show and eleven minutes of /that/ is what you get, devoid of context. there's no adventure there. this isn't fun. but you can't bring yourself to fault the kid, either, seeing the events of the past dozen episodes that built up to that point. this little story arc is hardly the only time this kind of thing happens, and the consequences of each one of these events is never neglected by the writing team. it resonates through the rest of the story, constantly
all taken together, it feels like the main motto of this series season four and on has become some reassurance to the viewer that "life can throw a lot of shit your way, and we don't always know how to handle these things. but for better or worse, life goes on. it has to."
marathoning this series properly has been a trip that resonates close to home too often in too many ways, as weirdly high-fantasy complete nonsense as it can be. feels weird to acknowledge that.
i'm gonna miss this show dearly once i'm through with it
