~ Doctor's Plan ~
Agent Stone x (f) reader
Part three {the masterlist}
Warnings: none
Word count: 14.8k
The agent woke up early that morning and went for a run. There was no one around except some stray animals. A gentle cold wind was hitting his face.  Meanwhile, in the back of his mind, he was still thinking about how to put Robotnik's plan into action. It wasn't easy and he had to keep a low profile while doing all this.
While he was running in his usual direction, he noticed a detail that he had not paid much attention before.
'Employee wanted for Karen's Coffee '
At that moment, it was as if everything fell into place like a puzzle piece. He hadn't realized before that this was exactly what he had been looking for for days.
When he completed his run and returned home, he took a quick shower and got dressed. Y/N was asleep on the couch. Out of spite, she turned down Stone's offer to sleep in his bedroom. She could very well sleep on the couch and as she said she was already used to. But eventually they came to an agreement; one week, one would sleep on the couch while the other would sleep in the bedroom. This way, both of them would have equal conditions. They decided who would sleep on the couch the first week by tossing a coin.
While Stone was placing the portafilter in his hand into the coffee machine, was also making a bacon omelette.
"I don't like bacon." Y/N said as she stepped into the kitchen.
Stone was startled by the voice, but quickly regained his composure and looked over his shoulder at Y/N. "Okay... How would you like your omelette then?"
"Umm... I'm not in the mood for an omelette today." Y/N said and yawned. She went to the refrigerator and started looking inside.
"Okay, what would you like to eat then?" Stone asked as he turned off the stove.
Y/N didn't answer. At that moment, she didn't want to eat anything she saw in the refrigerator. She closed the refrigerator's door, sat on one of the chairs, and started drinking the coffee Stone had made for himself. "Thanks." she said just before taking the first sip.
Y/N was already drank half the coffee before Stone told her he made that coffee for himself. He left the plate in his hand on the table and started making himself another coffee.
"Bagels. I want bagels. Is there a place around here that sells them?"
"Uh... I don't know. It has to be." said Stone. He took his new coffee and sat on one of the chairs. “Do you want me to go get it from the store?”
"Nah..." she objected. When she looked around, she got curious when she couldn't see her cat. "Where's Sylvester?"
Stone looked around, the last time he saw him was before Y/N woke up. "He's around here somewhere. Can't be far away."
Y/N gulped down her coffee and got up to look out for her cat. She searched everywhere -even the bathroom- but the only place she didn't look was Stone's bedroom. The room's door was half-open. As soon as Y/N walked in, she found her cat napping on the bed.
She had never been in this room before. There was nothing in the room other than a large wardrobe, a double-size bed and two nightstands. Something on one of the nightstands caught her attention: Stone's wallet.
She check through the door and quietly approached the wallet. Her purpose was just to look at Mr. Mysterious's ID and learn his name. After another check, she took the wallet, opened it and found his ID among the cards.
Aban Stone
She hummed silently in her head. She put the wallet back in its place and left the room. When she came back to the kitchen, Stone looked at her questioningly.
"Did you find him?"
"Oh, yeah. He's taking a nap, in your room." she said and then added. "You have no idea how grumpy he gets when he's disturbed."
She sat down again and watched the agent, who was finishing his breakfast. She wasn't sure if the name suited him. You could easily guess some people's names by looking at their faces, but Stone wasn't one of them.
"So, what's the plan today?" Y/N asked, breaking the long, deep silence.
"Actually, I was planning to go to a job interview today. At Karen's Coffee. This morning, while I was running, I saw an ad saying they were looking for employees."
"I thought you were an agent..."
"I am. But I need something to provide a monthly cash flow." he said, getting up to refill his and Y/N's coffee. "Besides, I need to get a job so I don't attract too much attention."
"Do you think you can do it? Alright, you make better coffee way above average, but are you talented enough to be stable in this job?" Y/N asked, turning around in her chair, looking at Stone.
"I have a diploma and degrees on this." Stone replied with a proud grin on his face.
Y/N was wide-eyed in surprise, but luckily Stone still had his back turned and didn't see her expression.
"Wow, I didn't know that." she said in a surprised tone.
The grin on his face still hadn't disappeared when Stone turned towards her with two cups in his hands. "There's a lot you don't know yet."
"Because you don't tell!" Y/N snapped at him.
"Everything has its time."
Y/N just made a face at that cliché. While they were sipping their coffee, Sylvester came into the kitchen. She left her coffee cup on the table and took her cat in her arms.
"Heyy, sweet boy!"
Her voice had changed, it always changed when she was talking to her cat. It would become more childish. And Stone noticed this from day one.
While Y/N was playing with her cat, Stone quietly got up and went to his room to get ready. He was ready when he put on his suit jacket and grabbed his wallet and phone. He called out to Y/N one last time before putting on his shoes and leaving the house.
"I'm going out. If you need anything, call me."
"I don't have your number!" Y/N yelled back. She repeated the sentence in a more normal tone as she came to the kitchen door and leaned on the beam. She was looking at the agent who was putting on his shoes on the floor.
Stone stood up, straightened his jacket, took his phone out of his pocket and made a transaction. "Now you have." he said, at the same time as the notification sound on Y/N's phone. Then he put a slight smile on his face and left the house.
Less than half an hour after Stone left, the doorbell rang. Y/N got up from where she was sitting and went to the door. When she looked through the door hole, she saw that the person coming was a courier. She hesitantly opened the door and looked at the courier with frowning and questioning eyes.
"Are you Y/N Y/LN?" said the courier, taking a brief look at the note in their hand.
"Yes?"
"This order is for you." said the courier, holding out the package in their hand. "Bon appetit, ma'am." they added, and instead of taking the elevator, they took the stairs and walked away.
Y/N closed the door and walked back into the kitchen with the package in hand. There were two bagels in the package. She jumped slightly with joy when she saw it.
While taking a bite of one of the bagels, she texted Stone.
"Thanks for the bagels!"
At that moment, Stone quickly put on the apron in his hand and looked at the notification on his smart watch. Y/N must've liked the bagels he sent. He quickly replied to her and returned to his work. He was hired right away and now all he had to do was lay low and make money.
"Enjoy it. :)"
Y/N had spent the rest of the day cleaning and working on projects she still hadn't finished. She didn't have much to do at home, she had her phone with her but she couldn't talk to her friends. It's been almost a week since she came here and she hasn't even stepped out. She had to stay away from everything and everyone for a while, for her own safety. Although this seemed relaxing at first, she was starting to get bored.
While her cat was taking his umpteenth nap of the day, she went into Stone's home office and sat down in front of the little robot she had been working on for months. While she was dealing with this, she had her father in the back of her mind, she knew that her interest in mechanics came from blood.
She had designed little things since she was little, and little Y/N had kept them all in hopes of showing them to her father one day. All of them were currently in a box in the attic of her house in New York, waiting to be resurfaced.
When she absentmindedly plugged in her robot, which she thought she had finished, she tripped the house's electrical switch. She returned to the moment with surprise and unplugged the robot. She knew from the beginning that building a cable-powered robot was a mistake, but she tried anyway. She left the room and looked for the little container where the house's electrical switch was located. When she found it, she came out with the help of a chair and looked. Yes, just as she thought, her little robot had tripped the electrical switch. She returned the keys to their original state and got down from the chair. Her whole mood was disappear.
She closed the office's door before her cat woke up, returned to the living room, and sat down on the sofa exhausted. She wanted time to pass as quickly as possible.
Stone adapted easily to his new job. Even though his boss was rude and his co-workers were people he wasn't used to and they tested his patience, there wasn't much he could do. He had completed his first whirlwind day at work and was back home; even if not his body, his nerves were worn out and overwhelmed.
When he opened the door and walked in, Sylvester was at his feet. "Hello, little one." he said before leaning down and picking him up.
He took off his shoes and walked towards the living room with the cat in his arms. Y/N had fallen asleep in front of the TV, sitting on the couch, a very uncomfortable position to sleep.
She woke up startled as Stone gently grabbed the remote control, which was about to fall from her hand.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to turn off the TV..." Stone quickly explained.
"No problem." Y/N replied in her sleepy voice. She turned off the television and sat up, feeling stiff all over. As she tilted her neck left and right to relax, she grimaced in pain.
"It's been a tiring day?" Stone asked, while stroking the fur of the cat that lay calmly on his lap.
"No. Not at all. On the contrary, it's been boring." She exhaled loudly. "I feel like Rapunzel."
Stone raised an eyebrow and looked at her. "Why?"
"Because I'm stuck in here and can't go out. Just like her." she replied. Her tone of voice was as if she were telling a truth known by everyone.
"You can't go out yet ." he corrected her. "As soon as I can figure all the things out you're able to can. But for now, you have to be out of sights." he said and added before Y/N could open her mouth. "For your own safety."
"There are coffee stains on your shirt." Y/N said, changing the subject.
Stone looked down at his shirt and grimaced. "Uh... Yeah."
"What happened?"
Stone took a deep, tired sigh and began to explain. "Karen, my new boss, didn't like the coffee I made and sprayed it in my face with the first sip she took."
There was anger hidden in his voice and Y/N noticed it immediately.
"What?! But you make great coffee!"
This sentence brought relief to Stone's face and inside him, he was glad to be understood. "Thanks! But well... not everyone realizes that."
Y/N sat down with one leg under her and turned towards him. "How about you make me the same coffee? Huh?"
"Are you sure?" he asked, raising one eyebrow.
"Absolutely." Y/N answered him without hesitation.
"Alright then..."
He left the cat on his lap, quickly went to his room, changed his clothes, and then immediately went into the kitchen. Without wasting any time, he started making the coffee he had been making for years.
Y/N was still sitting in the same spot when Stone came back into the living room with coffee in hand. "Here you go." he said as he carefully handed the cup to Y/N. "Latte with steamed Austrian goat milk."
Y/N said thank you and lifted the coffee cup to her lips, smelled before drinking. "Smells good." she said and took a big sip and let the taste of the coffee delight her mouth.
"This... is really good." she said and took another sip. It was obvious from her face that she liked it. Stone's lips turned slightly upward.
"It's definitely in the top three coffees I've drank so far. I'm not exaggerating."
The smile on Stone's face grew wider. "Thanks! That's the Doctor's favourite."
Y/N had slightly pursed her lips at this information, but thanks to the coffee cup, Stone hadn't seen it. "That woman, Karen, must be an ignoramus. Who wouldn't like that?"
"I know, right?!" Stone reacted. There was no trace of his despondency from an hour ago, and he owed that entirely to Y/N.
With an idea coming to her mind, she left the study and started looking for Stone at home. She should have shared the idea in her mind immediately. Stone was sitting at the kitchen table and looking at his phone.
"Stone! Stone!! Ah, there you are!"
Stone's eyebrows were furrowed and he put down the phone in his hand and looked at her with questioning eyes. "Is there a problem?"
"Problem? No, no problem. Listen to me, I have a plan." she said in a very confident manner.
Thereupon, Stone relaxed and his facial expression was replaced by curiosity. "About what?"
Y/N placed both of her hands on the table and leaned forward slightly. "What if I told you that Karen's Coffee is the perfect place for putting Robotnik's Manifesto to work?"
"How?"
"Simple. But not exactly that simple. That place would be a secret base but first, you have manage to do -somehow- all employees quit their job. For example, you're free to sell my father's machines to get money to buy that place. No need to pay back. Don't worry." she explained.
"I'm not gonna sell anything belongs to the Doctor. Forget about it, will you?"
She shrugged. "Okay... Maybe you have hidden money somewhere and you can use it? What do you say?"
"Unfortunately I don't have any hidden money, Y/N."
"Ugh! You don't help. But whatever! I think you able to can find a way to buy that place. And after a few modifications there will be still a lovely coffee shop except one thing: there's no employees but you. You'll be running the coffee shop by your own."
"And with a few little touch, the shop can turn into a total secret base..." Stone concluded her words. He thought about it for a second or two. "It might be work."
"No. It will work." she corrected him, grinning proudly.
Y/N's eyes lit up as she explained her plan and of course Stone noticed. She is a Robotnik, and just like the Doctor, she unconsciously wore the same pride when talking about her plans. Stone looked at the intelligent and beautiful woman in front of him, who didn't want to accept that she still had traces of her father, and smiled at her. It was a very genuine and sincere smile.
When Y/N stopped being proud of herself and looked at Stone, she felt something go on alert in her brain. She knew that what she said affected Stone, but she didn't realize that his reaction would affect her. She decided to do what she always did: change the subject and act like didn't care at all.
"I want pizza! Let's order pizza!" she said, straightened up.
Stone was still smiling as he picked up his phone. "I'm on it."
{New chapter is here guys! Finally I wrote and translated this chapter. I hope you like it! Part four will come but I don't know when. And I wanna thank you all for your patience!}

The guys (gender neutral) who wrote the Sonic movies, really looked at the franchise and went "You know what's missing? An evil assistant being gay for Eggman!", and I will always respect them for that. They took the "queercoded villains because we hate the lgbtq+ folks" trope and change it to "queercoded villains because the lgbtq+ folks deserve it". There isn't anything normal about Robotnik and Stone's relationship, but they're so gay for each other, and nobody can disagree.

~ Doctor's Plan ~
Agent Stone x (f) reader
Part one {the masterlist}
Warnings: none
Word count: 14.7k
"But if you play these rubes against one another to the letter of my scheme, the only ones left standing will be ready to fall in line. Only then will you be ready to proceed to the Robotnik Manifesto: Phase Two!"
Stone had read and memorized every word of Robotnik's manifesto and the rest. But it wasn't just a manifesto the doctor left behind, there was something else extremely important...
Stone was raising an eyebrow at the screen when he opened the private file. "Another one?" he muttered to himself. If so, why was it hiding with a firewall more than the other? Stone leaned back in his chair, stretched his hands and cracked his neck. He approached the computer again and tried to decipher the password. Although he expected it to be difficult, but it was the same as the other. But this time, he needed not just a password to enter the file, but also a fingerprint.
'Brilliant...'  thought Stone. It had 3 entries limit and he had to use them well. But which finger was he supposed to scan? And also, would it accept his fingerprint?
Stone took the risk and had the index finger of his right hand scan into the computer. This wasn't it. Next was the middle finger. This wasn't it either. The last entry limit left, and he didn't know what would happen next. This time the risk was big. Should he try one of the fingers of his left hand or one of the other fingers of his right hand?
After a few long seconds of staring at the screen, frowning, he made up his mind. He had the ring finger of his right hand read to the computer. The box that appeared on the screen relieved him. 'ACCESS SUCCESSFUL'
A smile appeared on his face as he opened the only text there, proud of knowing that he was the only person the doctor trusted.
"Stone, if you've made it this far, I'm sure this secret will be safe with you. You must go to the address at the end of the note, as soon as you read this."
Stone paused for a moment and took a quick glance at the address at the end of the text. The address indicated a location in New York. He went back to the line he had left off and continued reading.
"The person living at that address is my biological daughter. Even though no one, including the leeches in the government, knows about her -and she doesn't use my last name- I want you to keep her close and protect her. You must do this before anything else I told you."
Stone froze for a moment. Robotnik had a daughter? Despite working with him for all these years, he never mentioned it before. He was a little taken aback at first, but then he didn't care much. Doctor Robotnik had always been full of surprises.
The small anecdote attached to the end of the note caught his attention. "P.S.: I have no idea what she looks like. Good luck, you'll need it."
Stone wrote down the address on his phone and turned off the computer. Sitting still in the chair, he leaned back and tilted his head back. The doctor's disappearance, the government's distrain of everything, the manifesto, the mysterious girl who shows up out of nowhere... It all seemed too much for a few days, but Stone was confident that with his usual determination, perseverance and success, he could overcome all of them.
Finally the weekend had come. The teacher was putting her computer in her backpack as the students started to leave the classroom noisily. They had emptied the classroom quickly, but dozens of students' voices still echoed from the hallway and the school garden.
The teacher had carried her backpack and walked out of the classroom with tired but hasty steps. When she mingled with the crowd of students, she was barely able to get away from them. She took a deep sigh when she quickened her steps and stood out from the crowd.
As soon as she got to her car, she sighed heavily again. She was more tired than usual this week and all she wanted was to go home and rest with her cat. The young woman remembered that the moment her cat came to her mind, she had to buy him food and she should've stopped by a market before she left.
After a short grocery shopping and the road, she was able to come to her house. It was starting to get dark and getting colder. The cold wind blew towards her as if it had penetrated her bones. She pulled her scarf up to her nose. She hated the cold, as well as too much heat... While grumbling, she had packed the bags in one hand and locked the car.
The inside of the house was darker than the outside, and she sensed immediately that something was wrong. Her cat wasn't at her feet as soon as she opened that door, as he did every evening. She frowned in concern. She placed the bags in her hands at the entrance of the door and started walking with slow and cautious steps.
When she crossed the short hallway in the entrance and reached the living room, she thought she saw a silhouette in the armchair. Her eyes were narrowed, and eyebrows were furrowed. Yes, there was definitely someone sitting in the armchair.
The moment she took another step towards the silhouette, all the lamps in the room were turned on. The woman had let out a small scream at the sudden light and the effect of the stranger. Then she quickly gathered herself and looked at the owner of the silhouette. With a black suit, black shirt, black tie, black coat and black shoes; a charismatic man was sitting in front of her. While she was annoyed at the man breaking into her house with his shoes on, something else caught her attention: her cat, whom she was worried about. Her cat was unharmed and lying in the stranger's lap, snuggled up against him.
"Who are you? And what are your purpose doin' in my house? And also, why is my cat in your lap?!" she asked in a very serious tone.
"Y/N Y/LN, I suppose?"
"How do you know my name?! Answer!" she added, without breaking eye contact, taking the closest object she could find and pointing it at the man. What she was pointing at was a TV remote. Great (!).
"Ms. Y/LN, I'm Agent Stone. I'm your father's, Doctor Robotnik's, assistant and right-hand man. He gave me your name and address, I was assigned to take you out of here. You may be in danger." Stone explained. "And, your cat came into my lap when I walked in and didn't let me move. I think he realizes that I'm not a threat, unlike you think. You can put off the remote."
Y/N blinked a few times as she listened to what the man said, both from the sudden light hurting her eyes and from slight shock.
"Why didn't he come himself and sent his minion?" she asked in a sarcastic tone. For now, she had pushed every other thought aside. Then she threw the remote on the sofa and approached the agent, snatching her cat from his lap. "We'll talk about that later, Sylvester." she said to the black and white furred cat as she set him down on the ground.
Stone had the opportunity to really take a look at Y/N for the first time at that moment. The way she scream, her choice of words and tropes were almost identical with the doctor. Her height and appearance were similar to the doctor, and her face had a reminisce of him but not much. And it was obvious that Y/N had a few traits that she inherited from her mother. He let out slowly the breath he didn't even realize he was holding as the weight on his lap disappeared.
"I don't think you've ever met him before, Ms. Y/LN. And besides, the doctor is not on earth right now."
"What do you mean 'not on earth' ?"
"You can be sure I'll explain the details on the way. But now, I have to get you out of here." said Stone, and stood up and took a step forward.
"I'm not going anywhere. Au revoir! " she said, pointing to the door with one hand.
'A quite similar obstination...'  thought Stone. "Ms. Y/LN, -"
"Don't call me Ms. Y/LN, Ms. Y/LN was my mom!" Y/N snapped at him.
Stone smiled faintly at that. "How would you like me to call you? Would Ms. Robotnik be okay?" he asked.
Y/N rolled her eyes exaggeratedly. It was clear that this was an obvious objection. The only reason that kept her away from this surname was her anger towards her biological father, who had not been with her even once since she was born. Stone must have noticed this because he corrected his sentence and began to speak again.
"Y/N, you're in a potential danger. You must come with me with your cat and everything you need. I promise to ensure your safety."
Y/N stopped and thought for a while. The man before her might have been right, but she wasn't suppose that anyone had thought she might be Doctor Robotnik's daughter. She turned with her shoulders and glanced at her house; a small robot laid on the floor, that she had been working on for months but has failed, coffee tables were also filled with computer, repair tools, and small gadgets. She couldn't give up on any of them.
She sighed deeply and turned back to Stone. He was looking at her without saying anything. This bearded and above-average agent, was asking her to leave behind the things that made her life more bearable. And there was something in his eyes that compelled her to be convinced...
Stone picked up the small metal piece from the coffee table near him and turned to Y/N. "I'm taking you a place that will make it easier for you to complete all of this. All I ask is, come with me and hurry up."
Y/N left the room without saying a word and went to the bedroom. She kept thinking while putting her clothes in her suitcase. Why would had she believe this mysterious agent that showed up out of nowhere? Could she trust him just because he knew her father? Was it possible that she is really in danger? Where was her father, and why had he thought of protecting his daughter after all these years? And most importantly, why did she start to tidy up while all these questions were swirling her mind?
She hesitated for a moment as she zipped up the suitcase. She was going to leave her friends, students, and home. But where? She didn't even know where to go, she unconsciously believed the words of the stranger in her living room.
But her curiosity outweighed her worries. She dragged her suitcase down the hallway and left for the kitchen to pack her cat's belongings in the other small suitcase.
Meantime, Stone was watching the cat, who was unaware of everything. He could've considered this part of his mission accomplished, because Y/N hadn't pushed too hard and caused trouble. Maybe they weren't all that much alike to the doctor, or maybe he just knew how to deal with Robotniks.
When Y/N came into the living room with distracted and confused eyes, she picked up the cat at Stone's feet. "Come on, boy, we're leaving." she said. She looked but didn't seem to see, it was obvious that many things were on her mind.
"Are you okay?" Stone asked in a soothing tone.
"Huh?" Y/N replied. The question she received drew her back to that moment. "To be honest, I was okay until two hours ago. But I have no idea how I'm feeling right now."
"I understand you. Totally. It's hard to let go of the life you're used to, but the only thing that matters right now is -"
"My safety. I know, I know..." Y/N interrupted. Taking a deep breath, she grabbed the cat carrier she had dropped on the floor and looked over her shoulder at Stone. "Can you help me carry the suitcases in the hallway to my car?"
"Of course!"
The rain had begun to drizzle. Y/N was focusing at the road with full attention and listening to the agent sitting next to her. She knew her father as much as her dead mother mentioned, mostly in her youth years. What Stone describes him was much more recent. Yes, she knew from the very beginning that her father wasn't ordinary and he was a bit of cracked. But still had a hard time hiding her surprise while listening to Stone. And finally, when Stone read her Robotnik's note about her, her feelings for her father began to take a completely different form. It looked like it would keep her busy in the back of her mind for a while...
They were finally out of New York and Y/N had been driving for hours. She was just driving, not knowing where they were going. She glanced at Stone out of the corner of her eye and saw that he was fiddling with his smartwatch.
"Whe-" Y/N started, but her voice cracked from not speaking for hours. She cleared her throat slightly and spoke again. "Where exactly are we going?"
"Green Hills, Montana."
"A town? Why?" Y/N asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, sorry, I must've missed that detail... The exact location where the doctor disappeared is. And where I'm going to put into practice his manifesto." he explained. On the other hand, he was questioning how he had missed that. He must've been distracted.
"Hmm... Makes sense." she replied, yawning. She got up too early in that morning, very tired during the day, and the clock was approaching midnight.
"I can drive the rest if you want." Stone suggested. Neither his voice nor his face had an expression as if he needed sleep.
"There's two hours left at most, I can bear it." Y/N insisted. Of course, she didn't fully trust an agent she had met only a few hours ago. She could handle, for at least two hours, even if her body told her otherwise.
Stubbornness was definitely a genetic thing with Robotniks, so Stone didn't push it.
After a quiet ride, Y/N decided to stop at a hotel near Green Hills. She was literally unable to awake, she wanted to make their registers and sleep as soon as possible. She had rested her head on the counter for a while while waiting for an empty room at the reception. When Stone saw her in this state, the side of his lip curled slightly upwards.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I kept you waiting. I'm new around here… We have an empty room on the 5th floor with two separate beds." said the receptionist.
"Great, can I have the key now?!" Y/N asked wearily. She looked up from the counter and glared at the receptionist.
"We also have a suite with a king size bed if you -"
"Pass." she interrupted. She had pulled out the key the receptionist was holding out. Stone stopped her as she tried to use her wallet to make the payment.
"I'll take care of it." he said in a soothing tone. "And suitcases too."
Y/N didn't feel energetic enough to object to that. She left him behind and walked towards the elevator. When she reached their room on the 5th floor, she immediately threw herself inside. She sat down on the bed by the wall, took off her boots, threw them on the floor, and lay down. She felt exhausted and hoped to fall asleep quickly.
Y/N was already asleep when Stone took care of everything and came to the room. He had left the cat carrier carefully in a place by the window and opened the carrier's door. Then he left the suitcases next to it.
He straightened up and took off his jacked, placed it on the chair. Before move to the other bed, stretched and yawned. He was extremely tired too, had last slept two nights ago. He had to rest and put aside his plans and thoughts. He took off his shoes and lay on the bed.
He took a deep sigh as he closed his eyes. A busy day awaited him in the morning.
{I'm back with a brand new series and hope you like it! Part two will definitely come but I don't know when...}

" and then there were two "
summary: the bau recruits a new agent whose credentials arguably match their very own boy wonder’s pairing: s1!spencer reid x f!reader genre: fluff wc : 2.5k
Tumblr media
part of the holy ground series.
Tumblr media
“Did you hear? About the new agent?” Elle enters the bullpen with Derek, slinging an arm around his shoulders in an attempt to pull him closer. She keeps her voice just loud enough for him to hear, but it catches the attention of the agents that walk past them. Whispers of a new BAU team member had been lingering around the office for the past few days, especially one of this particular agent’s caliber.
“You heard too- What do you have over there Reid?” Derek’s train of thought had been cut of thought had been cut off the second the pair reached Spencer’s desk, the young man’s attention transfixed on a smooth stone between his fingers.
Spencer looks up, but keeps the pebble in his palm. “I picked it up from the beach a couple of days ago, I thought it looked nice so-”
“That pebble has been within a few feet of a dead body and you still picked it up?” Elle teases, cutting him off and taking the stone for him palm, bringing it up to her eye-level to ‘examine’. “It’s a strange shape though, I’ll give you that.”
Elle returns the rock back to Spencer which he places atop his desk. “You two were talking about the new agent… What- what do you think they’re like?”
Derek shrugs his shoulders. “I didn’t hear anything from Hotch or JJ, other than she’s coming in today.”
“Thank god another woman around, I was worried that we’d always be outnumbered by you four.” Elle breathes an exaggerated sigh of relief before continuing, “All I heard was the agent graduated early and worked in law for a bit.”
“You two definitely heard a lot more than I did.” Spencer’s brows furrow, his mind filled with questions of the new addition to their team. He didn’t even know they were looking for recruits, his eyes scan around the bullpen, drifting from Elle and Derek as he searched for an unfamiliar face.
And he finds one. Standing by the doorway. You looked nervous. You’re biting the inside of cheek, your eyes scanning around the bullpen in search of a familiar figure. Possibly Hotch. You keep to yourself, as if you’re afraid of taking too much space. But it feels like a front, you’re just in an unfamiliar environment. It isn’t until Derek snaps his fingers in front of his face that he drops his train of thought. If you were the newest addition to the team, he probably shouldn’t be profiling you.
“Did pretty boy find himself a pretty girl?” Derek laughs, following Spencer’s gaze.
“She just looks new that’s all.” Spencer quickly averts his eyes to the rock on his desk, but it’s too late. Elle had caught on and managed to see you waiting by the door as well.
She crosses her arms and quickly looks at you before looking back at Spencer. “Looks like you found our new agent.”
You take a couple of deep breaths before fully committing to entering the bullpen. Three people had just looked at you before returning to their conversation. You know you should probably find your unit chief first, and he’d be the one to make introductions for you. But it wouldn’t hurt to introduce yourself… right? You couldn’t ponder on the question for too long as your feet seemed to have a mind of their own, moving in the direction of Spencer’s desk where he, Derek, and Elle are.
“Hi!” You smiled, reaching a hand out for them to shake. “I’m Y/n, I’m supposed to be starting in the BAU today.”
Spencer raises a brow. You didn’t introduce yourself as an agent, only your first name. He shares a look with Elle who only shakes her head at him, as if telling him not to read into it too much.
Derek shakes your hand. “Derek Morgan.”
“Elle Greenaway. Really nice to meet you, Y/n. I apologize we were not being subtle at all.” Elle laughs.
“Don’t worry-” You wave off her apology with a small smile, but before you could continue speaking, Derek cuts you off.
“Used to being stared at from across a room? You don’t seem like the type who buys her own drinks at the bar.” He smirks, exaggeratedly checking you out to prove his point.
Elle rolls her eyes and gently shoves his side. “Cool it, Morgan. She’s new.”
“It’s fine.” You nod your head towards the person directly in front of you, turning your attention turns towards the only one who hasn’t introduced himself.
Instead of offering his hand to shake, Spencer simply offers you a sheepish smile. “Dr. Spencer Reid.”
“Doctor. Cool.”
Your brows shoot up in surprise and Spencer searches for any sign of derision or contempt in your tone and expression. He’s used to getting such anytime he’s introduced himself to anyone older, even more so around people his age; which you seemed to be.
But you seemed to be genuinely impressed. Instead of asking a follow up question on how someone as young as him could possibly have the title of doctor attached to his name, you nod towards the small rock on his desk.
“Most people decorate their desks with pictures, or maybe even little figurines. May I?”
Spencer gestures that you go ahead and you take the rock from his desk, examining it in a similar way that Elle had a few minutes prior.
“Anyone who would willingly want to work at the BAU isn’t going to be like most people.” Derek quips. “If it’s colorful things you’re after I’m more than willing to take you on a little field trip to our technical analyst’s office.”
“I think it’s neat though.” You move to return the pebble back, but Spencer holds a hand up, effectively stopping you in your tracks.
“You can have it if you want. You can, um,” he pauses before pushing your hand back towards you, his skin not actually touching yours, “consider it a welcome gift. Besides I think I picked up a couple more.”
“You know, male penguins offer rocks as a gift to woo female penguins… So if I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were flirting with me.” You attempt to sound nonchalant, but there’s a hint of a teasing tone that laced your words. “On my very first day too.”
Spencer’s lips part, at a loss for words. He scratches the back of his head, trying to look at everything but you. “I, um- no, I wasn’t- I just thought-”
You chuckle at his cheeks turning the slightest shade of pink, but decide to quell his embarrassment. “Relax, Dr. Reid. I was kidding.”
“So male penguins don’t do that?” Elle asks, turning to you.
“Well they do, actually.” Spencer answers the question for you, chiming in without a second thought. “The female penguins often use the rocks to build a kind of nest.”
Derek’s gaze quickly travels between you and Spencer. “How do either of you even know about that?”
“I read about it.” Spencer shrugs.
“Yeah, that checks out.” Derek mumbles, but his words are clear enough that it makes Elle chuckle and shake her head. He turns to you, “And Y/n?”
“I couldn’t sleep one night and a nature documentary was the only thing remotely interesting on.”
Elle leans closer towards Derek and turns away from you and Spencer, speaking in a low enough voice that only he could hear. “Oh god, looks like we have two of them now.”
Before you could even ask about it, Hotchner has already managed to walk towards your little group. “Briefing room. You can continue your introductions there. JJ’s got a case for us.”
All four of you know better than to do anything that isn’t following Hotch to the briefing room. JJ had already set up an extra chair for you, and you wait for everyone to take their seats before you take the available space between Morgan and Elle.
“Agent L/n.” Hotch bring’s everyone’s attention towards you as soon as he’s noticed you settle in your seat. “I believe you’ve met agents Morgan, Greenaway and doctor Reid. This is SSA Jason Gideon. JJ, our liaison. And Penelope Garcia, our technical analyst.”
“I’m excited to work with everyone. Thank you for having me.” You greet, sitting-up a little straighter, a tight-lipped smile spreading across your face.
“Oh don’t be so nervous, sweetheart. Your work’s impressive-”
“Garcia, you already looked her up?” Derek asks, but there isn’t a single ounce of shock in his voice or expression.
“Honey, whispers of a new agent? Of course, I looked her up.” Penelope responds, twirling her sparkly pen around. “Not only did cutie over here graduate early every single time, she did a double degree for her undergrad. Also got a near perfect score on the LSAT, passed the bar in the top ten, and currently trying to get a doctorate in sociology.”
You blink back at her, you weren’t even planning to go into detail about your background to the team. Before you could even ask her how she was able to find out, Gideon speaks up from across the table.
“A lawyer? Prosecutor?”
You nod. “Didn’t even last a full year. I always felt like I could be doing more, you know? Applied to join the FBI, worked in the field for a bit, and now here I am.”
Nobody misses the flash of recognition in Hotch’s eyes. After all, it’s a familiar story. But no one presses further.
“Garcia, when you said near-perfect score…” JJ trails off, her eyes trained on Penelope.
“Very near.” Penelope turns to you with a smile, seemingly proud despite just having met you. “179.”
“It’s not really something I go around telling people.” You avoid eye contact with the rest of the team and look down at your lap, fiddling with your thumbs from underneath the table. Despite this, you could still feel everyone’s gaze on you.
“You should. Hell, I would.” Derek jokes before looking between you and Spencer. “Trying to get a doctorate too. We’ve got a matching set of boy wonder and girl wonder over here.”
“We’ll be introducing you as Dr. L/n pretty soon, huh?” Elle leans closer towards you, gently hitting your shoulder and causing you to look up at her.
You smile sheepishly at the rest of the team. “I wouldn’t know about soon. I’ve actually been struggling to finish my dissertation.”
Spencer’s lips part. He feels the need to say something, perhaps some words of encouragement. Maybe he could even offer to help you with your work. Especially considering he had also gone through the process of getting a doctorate. Thrice, in fact. But before he could get a single word out, Hotch’s voice is already filling the briefing room.
“I’m sure we’ll get to know more about agent L/n in the coming days. For now, we have a case to get to.”
___
“This one is yours.” JJ leads you to your desk in the bullpen. Despite it being apparently unoccupied, there's a few piles of folders and loose pieces of paper strewn around. “If you need anything, just let me or Hotch- or the rest of the team really- know. I’ll let you settle in, but remember wheels up in thirty.”
“Got it. Thanks JJ.”
“No problem.”
You take out a couple of things you know you’d want on your desk from your bag; a couple of cute pen holders, some post-its, a couple of pictures. You feel around your bag and take out a book you were reading. You were wondering why you felt like your bag was unusually heavy. Then again, you were zooming around your apartment earlier in the day as you had slept through your alarm. As a result, you pretty much grabbed the first bag you saw and haphazardly stuffed your things inside.
“Neil Gaiman?”
You hear someone ask from beside you.
“Huh?”
Spencer is standing by your desk, eyes trained on the book in your hand. He tilts his head over across the small aisle that separated yours and his desks and stuffs his hands in the pockets of his pants. “Mine is just over there. It’s hard to miss, people don’t usually bring non case related things to read.”
“Oh, right I actually forgot this was here… I was going to join this book club and I was really excited about it too. But I just found out their meetings coincide with work hours, so now I’ve read this nearly 500 page fantasy novel and no one to talk to about it.”
A beat passes. Then another. A small surge of nervousness goes through your veins. It almost feels like you were oversharing. You were just introduced to the team, they probably didn’t need to know much about what you do outside of work.
“You can discuss it with me, if you’d like.” He briefly looks down at his feet, almost as if he’s carefully picking his next words. And he was. You were new, but you seemed nice enough. And he didn't mind the idea of taking a breather from discussing cases to discussing books, without said books having to do with a case. He didn't exactly want to come off too strong. “I like to read too. Have you finished?”
“Almost.” You click your tongue, considering his offer. Spencer shifts his weight from side to side, anticipating a response. The corners of your mouth twitches upwards at his earnestness. “That would be nice actually… how much time do you need to finish it? A couple of days or…?”
Spencer takes the book from your desk, flipping through the pages, considering the font size, the writing style. He even raises a brow when he notices the highlights and notes you’ve made across the margins. He hands it back to you with a small smile. “Give or take fifteen minutes.”
“You’re kidding.” You don’t even bother to hide the shock that’s plastered on your face. He’s a profiler, he would have noticed anyway. You flip through the pages yourself, trying to figure out if he was referring to a different book.
“I’m not.” Spencer shrugs his shoulders. “I mean I would have to buy a copy of my own first, which would have to wait until after the case.”
“Wow.” You let out a low whistle, more impressed than you had been earlier. “I guess it’s settled then. Let me know when you’ve eventually used up those fifteen minutes.”
“Okay, I will.”
“I look forward to it, Dr. Reid.”
“I do too, Agent L/n.”
Penelope Garcia and Derek Morgan watch the interaction from across the bullpen. Derek’s gaze follows Reid as he makes the short walk back to his desk. Spencer scratches the back of his head before quickly looking back across the aisle to where you were sitting. But of course, you were too busy getting your things in order to notice.
Derek keeps his voice low as he leans closer towards Penelope, crossing his arms across his chest. “Fifty bucks says pretty boy and girl wonder are going to get it on. He confesses first.”
Penelope notices you taking what looks to be a pebble from your pocket and place it by your pen holder, a soft smile spreading across your face as you looked towards Spencer. “Alright. I’ll take that action.”
