Allstate, too, has pulled out of climate disaster-prone areas while hiring lobbyists who are also aligned to fossil fuel interests
The largest home insurer in the US, State Farm, which is halting new homeowner policies in California due to the “rapidly growing catastrophe exposure” posed by wildfires, has hired lobbyists who also work to advance fossil fuel industry interests across 18 states, a new database shows.
While State Farm in May refused to take new home insurance applications in California, it retains a lobbying firm in the state – the Sacramento-based KP Public Affairs – which also represents Tenaska, a gas developer. Across the US, State Farm shares lobbyists with a raft of oil and gas companies, including ExxonMobil, Calpine and Occidental Energy.
Allstate, another insurer that followed State Farm in pulling out from new policies in California due to the state’s worsening wildfire risk, has also contracted lobbyists who have fossil fuel clients, such as Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Kinder Morgan.
State Farm and Allstate are just two of more than 150 insurance companies and associations – part of an industry facing steepening losses from fires, floods and other disasters spurred by the climate crisis – that use state-based lobbyists also aligned to fossil fuel interests, according to F Minus, a new database of public disclosure records.
James Browning, executive director of F Minus, said that State Farm’s linkage to fossil fuels stretches to Florida, where its lobbying firm Dean Mead also represents the Williams Companies, a gas pipeline operator in the state. “This allegiance with gas interests clearly pits State Farm against the interests of its customers as they face increasingly severe hurricanes, floods, and soaring insurance costs,” said Browning.
The lobbying overlap between insurers like State Farm and the fossil fuel companies stoking the climate crisis is “problematic and potentially counterproductive”, according to Tom Corringham, a research economist with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.
Insurers and fossil fuel companies could be working at cross-purposes around issues such as climate risk disclosures, he said, which the insurance industry requires to accurately price risk for homes facing a rising threat of flooding or fire.

Mayhem (Allstate Commercials) "Mayhem is all the bad things that could happen to a person. He's your house catch fire, your car breaking down, the tree branch breaking off in a lightning storm and crushing something valuable. Mayhem is a Desolation avatar that goes around destroying valuables and making people's lives worse and also being a part of the capitalist hellscape by selling insurance while he is the one causing all the problems you need to get insured against."
Tyler Durden (Fight Club) "Tyler Durden uses his charisma to create a cult of personality built on bitterness surrounding masculinity. He takes a group of men and breaks them down, telling them, "You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world." He also has the men beat each other bloody in underground fights.
He inflicts a chemical burn on each new member of the Fight Club, even himself, and he sends the men out to cause destruction in the community. They perform "harmless" "pranks" like vandalizing statues, damaging cars, destroying every VHS in a store, and threatening to kill people with unloaded guns and then stealing their licenses. By the end of the story he plans to blow up several skyscrapers. Tyler claims to have a philosophy but its all just reckless violence to express fear and hate.
You also get quotes like, "I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every panda that wouldn't screw to save its species. I wanted to open the dump valves on oil tankers and smother all the French beaches I'd never see. I wanted to breathe smoke."

Mayhem, I just saw your newest ad. Bad pun. And not nice bothering a sports legend like that.
Marehem: Yolks on you, I never said I was a nice guy. I think I may need to start wearing my ‘hi my name is Asshole’ name tag again.. but yeah, disaster and misfortune don’t discriminate, my guy. And I excel in both.

Okay, this is a head's up to anyone that buys an electronic at Wal-Mart and is considering buying the warranties they offer.
The Allstate Warranties are complete garbage.
Our TV, which we bought at Wal-Mart in March of 2020 (and we have the receipt for,) recently stopped working. It turns on, shows the Hisense logo, turns off, then does it all over again. The remote doesn't work, so we have to unplug it to get it to stop.
Our claim was denied, because "electrical fire damage isn't covered." Literally, our kids were just playing video games when it started acting weird (the shutting down and turning back on thing.)
Most likely, it was literally a component inside the TV that malfunctioned or blew. Which is covered by the warranty.
Further, we uploaded the receipt to the site, but the closed claim file says we bought it at Amazon in 2019.
So, yeah, don't give Allstate your money, even if the warranty seems like a good idea, they're going to give you the runaround. Also, there are tons of bad reviews on trustpilot and talk about how they don't provide full refunds, even when they do refunds.

Arihnda Pryce (Star Wars) "Arhinda starts off as a relatively normal person who is looking for a way to regain control over her family’s mining company from the galactic empire. As she goes through the books she gets more ruthless and vindictive whilst working through being a mistreated assistant of various scummy galactic politicians. When she kills an agent who’s been sent to protect her because he presents an obstacle to her goals, she panics because she can’t hide his death or her involvement. To hide this, she sets off a bomb that murders a whole rebel base and its people, their hostages from the city, and a huge part of the city. This kills an immense number of people that would not have died in any regular battle. She goes on to continue using explosives to solve her problems (despite not even being military) but I haven’t seen that part yet."
