I would like to ask your opinion on what might constitute a mature rating in ao3 that isn’t necessarily more extreme instances of violence/sexual references (compared to teen).
My example is I would like to write a “descent into madness” arc but I’m unsure where it falls on the scale. I sense that the worst of the depiction will be extremely harmful words to others and mild injury from disorientation.
I would first ask myself "If a 13-year-old asked me if it would be okay to read this, what would I say?" If the answer is no, its going under Mature rather than Teen and Up Audiences. You might be fine with a 16-year-old reading it, but there are teens younger than them, after all. Now, however you answer that question isn't the end of it. You might not even know what to answer. The thing is that ratings aren't just about mature subject matter or how "graphically" they're depicted, but the level of maturity/life experience you as the author would expect from the reader for them to understand the story.
A story can have not even the mention of violence, swearing, sex, and the like, and still warrant an M rating, because it's written in such a way that only someone with a certain level of reading comprehension or understanding of the world/subject matter would get. For example, if you were writing a story about office politics and drama with all these underhanded comments and such, that would still be rated as mature, because a teenager would be unlikely to have the life experience to fully understand the sheer anxiety of reading a sentence like "As per my last several emails," and even if they do, it's less likely to engage them because it doesn't resemble what their own life looks like at that point. Does that make sense? If you rate that kind of story as 'Teen and Up Audiences' because it as no age-inappropriate content, the teens who see or read it are still going to be unhappy because it doesn't relate to them, and adults may skip over it because they think it's an "immature" interpretation of their experiences.
For a "downward spiral" arc (I'm using this instead of "descent into madness" because I think it's a less ableist term), those have been done in kid's media before, with Azula from ATLA as a pretty famous one, but it also wasn't the centre of the story. ATLA's target audience is also younger than teens as well. The thing is though, the watcher can still enjoy ATLA whether they sympathise with Azula or not, since they have other characters to be invested in and root for, and they can always come to understand her nuances better as they grow older.
If Azula's downward spiral was the main storyline though, it would have to be marked as being for older audiences, because seeing the protagonist -the character you as the reader are likely to be the most attached to- go through these difficult emotions and reach a point of no return is going to be an emotionally and morally challenging read. You'd expect your audience to have a certain level of maturity where they're able to understand where the character is coming from but also how their downfall is also, at least partially, their own doing. If you're using this story to raise questions, you'd expect the readers to be able to sit with and think about them rather than demanding answers. However much of that maturity you expect from your readers will ultimately decide if your story should be rated 'Mature' or lower. Well, this answer got away from me. I hope it all makes sense! Def typed this up through a raging headache lol

I still keep hoping (someday, I’ll be falling without caution)
(steddie | teen | 2.3k | AO3 | @steddie-week | fluff and/or angst)
Eddie has always been a romantic, but he never believed in love at first sight. Still doesn't, but his heart stutters in his chest and the world around him grows distant and quiet. He smiles softly at the man, hoping his thoughts don't show on his face. Thinks they might, because the smile he gets in return is dazed, wondrous. Eddie wonders how he's not used to people fawning over him, throwing themselves at his feet, vying for his attention. Before he can do anything stupid like walk over to the man and catch his perfect lips in a devouring kiss, Gareth taps him on the shoulder. "You okay, man?" "Why wouldn't I be?" "Don't know, but if you tune the strings any tighter they'll snap."
A sweet laugh rings through the warm spring air, bright and playful like a wind chime dancing in a gentle breeze. It's a beautiful sound, full of joy and giddiness and love. It tugs at Steve's heart, a bittersweet ache he's come to recognize and accept around Nancy these days.
He watches as she walks down the aisle, her white dress with the baby blue ribbon complimenting her petite frame, her big azure eyes sparkling with the promise of a happy life with the other half of her heart.
Steve gives her a soft smile, hiding his sadness and melancholy, because Nancy doesn't deserve one of the most important days of her life to be tainted by Steve's longing.
Neither does Robin. She's standing next to Steve, who is her best man of honor as she’s calling it, dressed in a burgundy tuxedo, her face nearly split in two at the sight of the love of her life walking toward her. She threatened to shave his hair off if he ever told anyone she called Nancy that. As if the way they were together could mean anything else.
They don't have eyes for anyone but each other, and before Nancy even reaches the altar, Robin steps forward, too eager to hold Nancy's hands in hers to wait any longer. It's not even funny, but Nancy throws her head back and laughs again, this time louder, uninhibited in a way she's never been with him. Not really.
And that's okay, because he realized that it hadn't been love between them. It had been the idea of love, the dream of the white picket fence life. They had wanted to be in love, and for a while they thought they were. Nancy, always smart, always curious and quick to figure things out, had been the first to realize it and had broken up with him over it. Steve had always been a little slower. It had taken him seeing Robin and Nancy together to finally realize the difference between wanting to be in love and being in love.
He remembered the day Robin came to him at seven-thirty in the morning, before the classes they were teaching even began, literally giggling and kicking her feet. She had told him with bright, excited eyes that she had met someone at the public lecture on how language shapes societal beliefs, or something equally nerdy. Not just someone, but "the most perfect woman that has ever existed, Steve, like, oh my God, you should have seen her, she's so beautiful I wanted to cry and then she opens her pretty mouth and she's also so smart, Steve, so much smarter than me, like, how is that fair, she’s perfect," she rambled on and on.
A few weeks later, Steve found out that the beautiful, smart woman was none other than his ex. Robin had fallen in love with the first girl he ever thought he loved. The one who made him realize there was more to life than popularity and doing what was expected of you. The one who broke his heart into a million pieces. The one who had made him cautious in a way he’s never had been before.
It had hurt, at first. It hadn't been easy watching his best friend, his platonic soulmate, get the love he once had while he went from date to date, bed to bed. Steve soon realized that it didn't hurt because he was jealous of Robin. It hurt because he was jealous of what Robin and Nancy had that he didn't.
Now, four years later, most of that was gone. He is so, so happy for them, his heart full of love for these two wonderful women who still acted like they'd just started dating.
He thinks of the way they still giggle together at the breakfast table, of the way Nancy always makes fun of the way Robin gets during the holidays, all stressed out and frenetic, going all out with the decorations and the presents and the traditions. The way Nancy wears that indulgent, gentle smile that is only Robin's when she does it. Or how Robin still kisses the ring Nancy's been wearing since their first anniversary whenever they haven't seen each other for more than a few hours. The ring they told everyone didn't mean they were engaged, even though they were. A secret only Steve ever learned, something he'll take to his grave.
As they stand before the officiant, holding each other's hands, lost in each other's eyes, and say "I do," Steve wonders if he'll ever find what they have. He wants it, wants it so bad that he can feel it sitting on his chest, knocking the breath out of his lungs. It feels like he's walking through life with Yearning at his side, holding his hand, lying in his arms at night, kissing his lips good morning and good night. It's the longest relationship he's ever had.
After the ceremony, the wedding party mingled while waiters walked around with champagne flutes, and Steve grabbed two and downed them in quick succession. The hardest part is over, he tells himself, now buck up and have some fun, for Robin and Nancy, if not for yourself.
Steve nods to himself and grabs another flute.
He can do this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Playing in a wedding band was not exactly what he had in mind when he told his uncle that he wanted to make a living with his guitar. And yet here he was with Gareth and Jeff and Grant, setting up their instruments in fucking tuxedos instead of the ripped jeans and leather and chains they usually wear to their concerts. He really doesn't get paid enough for that.
But he does get paid, more than he can say for most of the gigs they play in clubs and bars around town. So wedding band it is. For now.
Eddie's eyes sweep over the crowd, landing on the happy couple chatting with some of the wedding guests. He liked them, especially the taller of the two, Robin (like the bird, he thinks, and it helps him remember her name), because she had also been in a band, and they had bonded over the horrors of being a band geek and theater kid in high school. He had given her a social pariah discount after that.
He lets his eyes wander further, taking in the mingling guests, chattering and laughing in small groups, before they land on a man standing all alone at the bar, and the first thing Eddie thinks is, he looks so lonely, followed by, that's the most beautiful creature I've ever seen, why is he all alone when everyone should be drawn to him like bees to the most enticing flower.
Just as he thinks that, the guy looks up from his empty flute and their eyes meet across the room.
"You okay, man?"
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"Don't know, but if you tune the strings any tighter they'll snap."
That's enough for him to tear (most of) his thoughts away from the lovely angel who is standing just a few, endless feet away, and back to what he's doing. It's not his sweetheart, but his uncle gave him this guitar, an acoustic, the one he learned to play on. She's his lucky charm, and he strokes her in silent apology.
When they're all set, he steps up to the microphone and greets the wedding party.
"Hello, ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between, it's an honor to witness and celebrate the union of those two lovebirds over there," he points to Robin and Nancy, "with you. We're here to give this joyous occasion the soundtrack it deserves, and we hope you enjoy it. Requests are welcome, and the cuter you are, the more likely we are to play them." He winks at the crowd, thinking of a certain someone who could probably ask for any song, and Eddie would at least try.
He's got it bad.
"But first we have the opening dance. Please give it up for Mrs. and Mrs. Wheeler-Buckley."
With that, the two women make their way to the center of the dance floor, hand in hand, and Eddie begins to strum the first few notes. Everyone is quiet as the newlyweds begin to dance across the hall.
As Eddie sings the lyrics to the song the brides have chosen to declare their love, he can't help but look for the man from earlier.
'Cause it's you and me And all of the people with nothing to do Nothing to lose And it's you and me And all of the people And I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of you
He finds the man looking right back at him, eyes wide and dark as they watch him, and Eddie knows he has to talk to him, has to at least try, because he feels like he's on the verge of something monumental, something terrifying and wonderful and exhilarating.
It's almost an hour later when he gets his chance. They play their last song before the first break of the evening and Eddie can't wait to get a cold beer and smoke a cigarette outside before he talks to Mr-Too-Gorgeous-To-Be-Real.
Only Mr-Too-Gorgeous-To-Be-Real has other plans, because that's when he approaches the stage and stands right in front of Eddie, looking up at him through long, dark lashes and tousled honey-colored hair. His eyes are hazel and droopy, the sexiest bedroom eyes Eddie has ever seen, and he's glad to have a guitar in his lap.
They finish the song and the cute guy starts clapping before he realizes he's the only one and stops with the most adorable blush on his cheeks. Eddie is a total goner. Cute, sexy and a dork? He never had a chance.
Leaning over to him, Eddie asks in a hopefully sexy, sultry voice, "You're cute enough that I would even play Last Christmas if you asked. And I hate that song."
The blush deepens, but there's a twinkle in his eyes that Eddie is dying to see more of. "Oh, how do you know my favorite song?" he says, batting his eyelashes at Eddie and smiling in a way that is both a challenge and an invitation all at once, and before he can help himself, Eddie starts to strum on his guitar.
Last Christmas I gave you my heart But the very next day you gave it away This year, to save me from tears I'll give it to someone special
Eddie feels the stares of his bandmates at his back. They know how much he despises this song, have to listen to his rants about it every December, but he doesn't care what they think. He doesn't want to go home with them.
Pulling his guitar over his head and gently setting it on the floor, he jumps off the stage and lands next to the star of many dreams yet to come.
"I'm Eddie," he says, holding out his hand.
"Steve, nice to meet you," Steve says, taking Eddie's hand in his goddamn paws and Eddie's brain takes a short vacation. He silently thanks a God he doesn't believe in and vows to spend a lot of time on his knees with God's name on his lips whenever his mouth isn't full.
"Steve, what do you say we get out of here for a while?" Eddie knows he's being very forward, obvious in a way he usually isn't. He likes to play with his prey, draw it out, let the tension build. But right now he just wants to ask Steve if he can see him again. Preferably tomorrow, for breakfast at the latest.
Good thing Steve seems to be on the same page, because without another word he grabs Eddie's hand and pulls him towards the patio door leading to the grounds.
They both grab a beer from the bar before stepping outside into the bright May sun. There's a secluded area a few yards away from the main building with a small pond and a bench right under the cherry blossoms, and Steve sits down on it, beckoning Eddie to join him.
Eddie does, sitting as close as he can without being in Steve's lap, and Steve laughs, bright and happy, looking at him like he's something special.
"Tell me about you," Eddie says, and Steve laughs again.
"Like what?"
"Like everything."
Now Steve looks doubtful, almost nervous, as if he thinks Eddie is joking, and Eddie wonders how many people have ever bothered to get to know Steve.
He adds a please through his pouting lips, making his eyes big and round and batting his eyelashes for good measure. Steve snorts, but the lines around his eyes and mouth disappear.
Steve talks until Jeff comes and finds them to tell Eddie that their break ended 10 minutes ago and that he'd really like to get paid for this gig, thank you very much.
Eddie jumps up and runs toward Jeff, but pauses mid-step, turns around, runs back to Steve and tells him, "We're on until midnight, after that I'm free. I really want to dance with you, so please tell me you won't turn into a pumpkin at midnight."
Steve scrunches his nose, confused. "Why would I turn into a pumpkin at midnight?"
"Never mind. Will you save me a dance?"
Jeff clears his throat loudly behind them, and Eddie flips him the bird without taking his eyes off Steve.
"I'd love to."

Helloooo (• ▽ •;). Maybe ST 4 steve Harrington x femreader ? Where steve thinks he looks great flirting with reader but he gets embarrassed when he sees a robin camera recording (because robin was spying on them). Maybe a cute and fluffy ending between steve and reader???.
I know it doesn't make much sense but it seems kind of cute to me and I'm still in love with joe keery 😞💗
I love your beautiful writing. Have a nice night/day. Bay!💗
~🦕
stop because i loveeee this. i’m convinced this happened at some point or another canonically.
Fast Times at Family Video
Tumblr media
summary — steve’s great a flirting. that is, until robin gets involved.
pairing — steve harrington x fem!reader
disclaimer — i do not own stranger things, the characters, or that gif.
warnings — steve harrington thinking he’s the shit
“So, you liked Fast Times?” He asked, strategically leaning against one of the shelves in the narrow aisle. From this angle, she could get a perfect view of his arms.
“Yeah,” she grinned at him, her fingers gently smoothing a patch of her shirt, “It was fun…and sort of stupid. A nice simple watch.”
“Have you seen The Breakfast Club?” He asks, an easy smile on his lips, “It’s a little less lighthearted as Fast Times, but I have a feeling you’ll like it.” He stood up from his relaxed position and bent down a bit, thumbing through the stack of VHS tapes under a shelf labeled ‘Teen Comedies.’ Eventually, he landed on the tape.
“Here you go,” he grinned, handing it to her.
“Rad, thanks,” she smiled back. When she took it from him, their fingers brushed, and the familiar ring of her nervous giggle sounded in his ears just like he hoped it would.
“Anything else you’re looking for?” He stretched as he spoke, his arms coming behind his back. The movement causes his shirt to stretch with him, and the unbuttoned collar of his polo shirt reveals a few of his scruffy chest hairs. She noticed, just like he knew she would.
“Uh, yeah—” Her eyes met his a bit sheepishly, “—I was thinking something scary.”
“Something scary?” Steve repeats, his smile widening, “Sure thing.” He leads her down the aisle and past a few customers scanning the shelves until he eventually lands in the horror section.
“Alright,” he begins, glancing up at down at the shelves, “You have your classics, of course: Psycho, The Exorcist. But, if you want something really scary—” He slips a VHS tape from the shelf, “—I’d go with this.”
The title reads Re-Animator. On the cover, there’s a man in a lab coat holding a syringe of neon liquid. In front of the man is a decapitated head on a pan, and behind him is the rest of the body, reaching out to grab him. She studies it with a smile on her face.
“What do you think?” He asks, waiting for her reaction. He’s impatient, almost nervous. It’s just a movie recommendation, but he so badly wants her to like it.
“Looks scary.” She nods, looking back to him. A wide grin breaks out on his face at that. It’s the perfect opening. Once again, he leans against the shelf, his eyes taking her in with a calculated calmness.
“Y’know, if it seems too scary, I could always watch it with you,” he says nonchalantly, “I have a pretty nice setup at my place, too. Speakers—”
He freezes when he hears a familiar raspy laugh. Though she tries to stifle it, when Steve’s eyes meet the end of a camcorder lens that’s poking through the horror shelf, Robin knows she’s been caught.
“Robin!” Steve exclaims, shoving his hand towards the camera, “What the hell?”
“I wasn’t doing anything,” she protests, though, she can’t help but let another laugh slip, “I just wanted to make sure you were properly helping one of our customers.”
“Were you spying?” His eyes widen even further, and he feels himself flush at the thought.
“I wouldn’t call it spying,” Robin shakes her head, “More like…employee analysis.”
Steve lets out a groan, and when he turns away from Robin and back to the girl he’d been talking with, she’s miraculously still there. She looks a bit nervous, but she also can’t contain the small smile on her lips.
“Hey, Robin.” She waves through the shelf where Robin’s face has replaced the camcorder lens.
“Hey,” Robin replies happily, taking in the VHS tapes in her hand, “Breakfast Club? Haven’t you rented that one like ten times already?”
At this, it’s her turn to be embarrassed. Her eyes widen at Robin’s words, and she spares a quick glance at Steve. Though his cheeks are still dusted a light pink, he looks confused. Her attention quickly switches back to Robin.
“Yeah,” she says softly, “Um, I guess I have.”
“Still a good choice,” Robin gives her a knowing smile, “Well, I gotta motor. I’m gonna go rewatch everything I just recorded. Steve, keep showing off that chest hair for me.”
Before Steve could even think of a reply, Robin is off, scampering down the aisle. He lets out another groan, wiping his face with his hands. His eyes peek out between his fingers.
“You’ve seen Breakfast Club?” He asks, looking at her.
“A couple times,” she responds.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” His brows furrow at her admission, “I could’ve found something you haven’t seen before.”
“Well,” she lets out one of those nervous giggles that’s just music to his ears, “You seemed pretty excited about it. And I don’t mind watching it again.”
Steve looks at her, and all of his cockiness evaporates. For the last few weeks, every time he’d seen her enter the store, he’d been able to put up a flirty front, to make her laugh and smile. But now, he can’t help but feel downright nervous.
“Oh?” He tilts his head at her words, though, he’s regained none of his swagger.
“Yeah,” she responds, “It gave me an excuse to look at your smile.”
He cracks a grin at that, both flattered and flustered. It was easy for him to put on the ‘pretty boy’ act, to talk to girls, to be confident. But at her words, he melts a bit.
“I could’ve just smiled at you anyway,” he shrugs, the wide grin still on his lips.
“I guess you could’ve,” she laughs, “But, I already have the tape. And I wouldn’t mind rewatching it with company.”
“With company?” He repeats, and his grin turns into a downright goofy smile.
“Totally,” she nods, “And, like you said, Re-Animator seems pretty scary. I’d hate to watch it alone.”
“It is pretty scary,” he chuckles.
“If we’re gonna be watching these together, does that mean I get your discount?” She asks, a smile on her lips.
“Is that all you’re interested in? A discount?” He jokes. He’s unable to contain his excitement as he watches her.
“No, but it’s a perk.” She let’s out a soft laugh and grins.
“Well, then,” he says, gently taking the tapes from her hands, “How does Saturday sound?”
“Saturday sounds great,” she replies.
“Sounds great for me to!” Robin interjects, passing by the two with a cart of movies labeled ‘To Be Returned.’
“Robin!” Steve exclaims once more, huffing at the interruption. With a sigh, he turns back to the girl before him and smiles.
“I’ll go ring these up,” he grins, “They’re on me.”
After a moment of shy goodbyes, he returns to the counter and logs the tapes under his account. Free movies were a part of the job, so why not use it? He couldn’t stop smiling as he slipped the tapes under the counter, making sure to take them home when his shift ended.
“Are you abusing company policy?” Robin gasps out dramatically, sliding by him on the ‘To Be Returned’ cart. He shoots her a glare, and she puts her hands up defensively.
“Hey, big man, I come in peace,” she says as she reaches into her pocket, producing a scrap of paper, “Your girl had to go, but asked me to give you this.”
Steve takes it from her hands, eyeing her suspiciously. Though she’s technically not ‘his girl’ yet, he makes no attempt at correcting Robin. He unfolds the paper and smiles when he looks down at it. In rushed handwriting, there’s a number scrawled across the page and a note written underneath:
Page me about Saturday? :)

Omggg we need the 5th forced proximity prompt with Lestappen:
“What if y-” “if you seriously propose that I sit on your lap, I will kill you.”
Somehow I decided to write teen lestappen for this prompt, but I hope you enjoyed it <3
FORCED PROXIMITY PROMPTS ˗ˏˋ꒰ 🐚 ꒱ -- found here!
Charles glares.
Max stares back passively. He leans back in his chair and makes a show of stretching his legs out. It makes Charles bristle in return. There's already very little space and now he's trying to take up even more room.
He doesn't actually know how long they've been locked into this absolutely tiny storage space, but it's been long enough that Max's phone had died what felt like an hour ago--Charles' had died before he'd even gotten to the karting track, having forgotten to charge it.
The thought of spending even a minute more in this room with Max Verstappen of all people is enough to drive him insane, but now his feet are also starting to hurt.
Ugh, why couldn't it have been Pierre instead...
"How long are you going to use that chair?" He finally asks, sounding whiny even to his own ears.
Max's face scrunches up. "I'm fine, actually."
Charles grits his teeth. Same answer as before, then. "Well, I want a turn too." He says petulantly.
"What are you, five? Just sit down on the floor."
"Your stupid legs are in the way!" He snaps back, digging his nails into the palms of his hands. There's barely room for Max to sit while Charles is standing, there's no way he'll fit if he wants to sit down.
Max sighs. "What if y--,"
"If you seriously propose that I sit on your lap, I will kill you.” He interrupts, but his face heats up anyway.
He doesn't appreciate the half-laughing, half-snorting noise Max makes. "I was going to say you could kneel down between my legs."
Charles turns completely red, both mortified and confused all at once. "You can't just say stuff like that!" He protests. Max's eyes crease as he laughs, and Charles quickly looks away.
"Would you rather spend your time standing? You can, of course, if you want, but it could take hours before they find us."
That's a horrible thought, being stuck with Max for even longer, but begrudgingly, Max is also... right. Charles hates it, hates it when Max makes him agree, hates it when he's making sense. Ugh, he just hates Max, with his stupid eyes and his stupid hair, and most of all, his stupid mouth.
He jumps when he feels Max's hand on his wrist, and before he knows it, he's pitched forward, right against Max's chest and onto his lap. He lets out a surprised, embarrassed squeak as he twists his fingers into Max's shirt. His face feels like it's on fire.
"Just sit down, Charles." Max looks at him with those stupid half-moon eyes, and Charles can't find it in himself to protest. He shifts-- adjusts himself--,a bit too quickly for his own liking, but Max doesn't say anything as Charles settles down.
It's... it's not as bad as he thought it would be. Maybe it's even nice, but Charles doesn't let himself linger on that thought. Max is his enemy, his greatest rival, not some boy he can... fool around with, not that Charles would want to, of course, he doesn't like boys! Least of all Max Verstappen.
Charles bites his lip as he stares at the shelves behind Max's head, not knowing what to say, not wanting to think about Max any longer, and starts counting the cleaning supplies for what feels like the 100th time, like they're sheep.
He doesn't notice it when his eyes start to feel heavy, doesn't notice it when Max shifts around until Charles can drop his head against his shoulder, and doesn't notice it, when it's hours later, that he tries to cling to Max when they're found and his dad carries him to their car, still fast asleep.

duncney week day 1: admitting feelings
some mid-TDI duncney for the soul <3 duncney song of the day: 'jane says,' jane's addiction (really more of a courtney song but the vibes are there)
also on my ao3!
Her day is unceremoniously kickstarted by someone rapping furiously on her door.
"Courtney!" Bridgette shouts, heedless of time of day or volume. "Court, you in there? You're gonna wanna see this!"
Courtney sighs. She had planned on spending a lazy afternoon stuck to the sheets with a book in her hand and her lawyers on standby, but it's pretty hard to gain any semblance of privacy when you're sharing accommodations with a bunch of other teens. Courtney neatly slides her bookmark between the pages of In Cold Blood, marking her place for later.
On the other side of the door, Bridgette's wearing an uncharacteristically large grin on her face. She's usually smiling, but this feels a tad overdramatic.
"Um," Courtney says. "Are you ok?"
"Geoff and I were watching the bonus reel from yesterday's episode," Bridgette explains. "Chris just sent it over."
Courtney rolls her eyes - there's a reason she purposefully avoids watching any more of Total Drama than she's socially expected to. Last night, Duncan had done really well in the challenge, and -
"And what exactly is so urgent about that?" she asks, before her mind can get away from her.
Bridgette grins again, gap-toothed and rosy. "Just come to the rec hall and see what Duncan said about you."
"I hope Heather knows that if she's gonna try and seduce me for gain, it's not gonna work. I'm not Trent, ok?  The only chick I dig is Courtney. I miss her. I've never felt this way for anyone before - I mean. Uh. Whatever. I'm not all lovey-dovey or anything. Sigh."
"I don't get why it's such a big deal," Geoff says. "You guys made out. You already know you're into each other!"
Bridgette levels her boyfriend with a glare so quailing, he actually gulps. "It's not the same!" She squeezes Courtney's shoulder, eyes sparkling. "It's not the same, right?"
Courtney shakes her head slowly, staring at the paused screen. She feels like she does right before she goes on to crushanother debate team - really good, and also really jumpy in the stomach. "It's not," she says, hoping she doesn't sound as mushy-gushy as she feels. "It's so, so not."
"Think about it, Geoff," Bridgette continues. "Yeah, we were flirting all the time on the island, but it was different when you asked me to be your girlfriend, wasn't it?"
"Ohhhhhhh," Geoff says as realization dawns, eyebrows disappearing beneath the brim of his hat. "'Cause it's a totally different vibe! Righteous."
"And?" Bridgette turns back to Courtney, bumping her elbow playfully.
Courtney hums noncommittally. "And?"
"Do you feel the same way?!" Bridgette practically explodes, and Courtney feels flushed and frizzy and unfocused all over again.
"Well," she starts to say - her face is melting like she's just had too much of her uncle's homemade salsa. "Well, I...um..."
Oh, come on, girl. It's just Bridgette and Geoff.
...And Ezekiel in the corner over there, but I honestly can't tell if he's dead or asleep right now.
You trust them.
She nods, a smile spreading across her face. The stupid, delinquent, idiot, caring, sympathetic, frankly gorgeous boy on TV is paused in eternal red-cheeked hell forever - because of her.
"I've never felt this way for anyone before, either."

A happy memory
(Written for @p3akishinjiweek day 7: Special Occasions | Vacations)
Summer festival, Fluff, Self-hatred, Because it's Shinjiro we're talking about, Kissing, Bittersweet
Akihiko asks Shinjiro to accompany him for the summer festival. He's tempted to say no, but he doesn't. Might has well giving him one happy memory, before he has to go…
(AO3 link)
(Fic under the cut)
Through the sheer power of being a stubborn ass, Akihiko has convinced Shinjiro to go to the summer festival with him.
It ain’t exactly his thing, but there’s a limited amount of times he can manage to tell him no, before eventually caving in.
There’s also the fact that he knows that, between Castor and the suppressants, he doesn’t have long to live anymore, and as much as he keeps telling himself that keeping away will make it easier for Aki to deal with it… He also wants to give him a happy memory to remember him by. Not that there hasn’t been any happy moment between them in their entire life, just… not recently.
It’s selfish as fuck, but by now he’s made peace with the fact that he’s an irredeemable piece of shit, so who cares.
Besides, the way Aki beamed at him when he said yes made every eventual headache he’ll get immediately worth it.
After all, how bad can it get?
They’ve just got here, and Shinjiro already wants to leave. Too much noise, too many people… it’s just too much in general.
Still, he’s agreed to spend the evening with Akihiko, and he can’t back off now, not when they’ve just arrived.
He just has to hope that Akihiko won’t—
“Shinji, look! They have games!”
Well, nevermind.
They check the games stands, but there’s nothing out of the ordinary, just standard fair games.
“Seeing anything that catches your eye?” Shinjiro asks, leaning close to Akihiko, because apparently he’s a masochistic fuck who can’t wait to be involved into whatever game he wants to play.
“Mmmh…” Akihiko mumbles, inspecting each stand with his gaze. “How about that one?”
Shinjiro turns to the stand Akihiko’s looking at. Ah, that’s a classic: it’s one of those kinds of game where you have to knock down the targets to get prizes.
The problem with these games is that they’re mostly meant for children, so the prizes aren’t exactly intriguing for two teens like them, mostly dolls or stuffed animals.
“I bet I can get the big teddy bear,” Akihiko says, an enormous grin on his face.
Shinjiro sighs, massaging the bridge of his nose. Of fucking course the biggest, dumbest prize is the one that catches his eye. “And what exactly are you going to do with it, Aki?”
“I’ll give it to you, of course!” the other replies, like it the most obvious thing in the universe.
“Don’t you fucking even think about it,” Shinjiro threatens him, but Akihiko is already walking to the stand and speaking to the old man behind the counter and once Shinjiro reaches him, he has already paid for his shot.
Stupid fuckin…
“Oi!” he grabs Akihiko by the shoulder, shaking him. “Are you out of your mind?!”
“What?” the other replies, as if he’s not planning on humiliating him in front of who knows how many people. “Can’t I give my boyfriend a gift?”
That makes Shinjiro pause. It is true that they were together before everything went to shit, but they never really talked about it after he left SEES. The fact that Aki still considers them partners make him feel sick to his stomach – he doesn’t deserve it – but also… it makes him all warm inside in a way he hasn’t felt in a long time.
Of course, there’s no way he can say any of this shit out loud, so he decides to ignore the “boyfriend” part.
“What makes you think I want that?” he says instead, but Akihiko has already tuned him out, focusing on his target, and the ball in his hand.
If he really wants to get the giant teddy bear, he has to knock down all the four cans pyramids in one shot, which doesn’t sound possible at all. There’s no way he can do it, no way at all; he’s clearly doing this because he wants to mess with him, not because he really thinks he’s got a shot at it…
… And then the fucker actually manages to win. Whether that’s just dumb luck or skill, Shinjiro can’t tell. He’s still too stunned to speak.
If he dares to come close to him with that huge fucking teddy bear, he’ll deck him on the face, it’s decided.
It must be his lucky day – well, night – because he’s saved by a crying girl that has been begging her father to play as well, because she wants to get a giant teddy bear for herself too.
When Akihiko notices it, he makes a beeline towards her, and gives her his prize, accompanying the gesture with a charming smile that makes her stop crying immediately, accepting the gift from the kind stranger and thanking him.
It does make Shinjiro feel fuzzy inside, watching this scene. It makes him think about what could’ve been if…
He doesn’t even realize that Akihiko has made his way back, until he’s standing right in front of him.
“Sorry about that, she looked so sad that I couldn’t resist,” he apologizes. What is more appalling, though, is that he looks sheepish about it, as if Shinjiro actually wanted that teddy bear, and he’s upset that he gave it away.
Dumb, idiot Aki…
He says that, but he might’ve just fallen in love with him even more, now, so he may be the real dumbass here.
In order to exorcise any kind of sappy thought, he smacks the back of Akihiko’s head.
“Always playing the hero, huh?” he says, because it’s easier than to say I love you.
Akihiko doesn’t seem fazed by his snark – must’ve gotten used to it by now – and just smiles at him.
“C’mon, let’s take a look at the other stands,” he says, grabbing his hand.
If you ask Shinjiro, he’d say that he’s already had enough of the festival, but he’ll be damned if he lets go of his hand.
Alright, more stands it is.
Aki buys takoyaki for the both of them.
“Feeling generous, huh?” Shinjiro can’t help but to comment, accepting his share.
“Well, it was my idea to come here. Figured I should treat you,” the other shrugs.
“You don’t have to do that…” Shinjiro mutters, looking away. Damned Aki, always making things hard for him.
“But I wanted to!” Akihiko insists. “Isn’t it nice to do something normal from time to time?”
Except nothing about them is normal, no matter how much they can pretend it’s not, even for just this moment.
He doesn’t say anything, though, because this is supposed to be a happy memory for Aki; he shouldn’t ruin it by being an asshole.
A shrug. “I guess.”
It’s the best he can come up with.
They eat as they walk around, checking out other stalls.
Sometimes Shinjiro feels observed, eyes pointing daggers at him, but it’s hard to tell if it’s just his guilt, screaming at him because why is he having fun he doesn’t deserve to have fun, or if it’s just people being weirded out when Aki insists on feeding him one of the takoyaki – did Takeba got him to watch some sort of romantic comedy? This is the kind of shit couples do in those.
He tries to pay it no mind, reminding himself that he’s doing this for Aki, not for himself. He glances at him, just to make sure that he’s having fun, and he has to immediately look away: he looks so happy, so radiant, that staring at him feels like staring directly at the sun. At least he’s enjoying himself…
They’re still walking around, when Akihiko stops abruptly, prompting Shinjiro to do the same.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Shouldn’t the fireworks start soon? Let’s find a better spot, so we can watch them!” Akihiko exclaims, in fact. Just like last time, he grabs Shinjiro’s hand as he makes his way through the crowd, and just like last time, he doesn’t let go.
They find a nice spot on a small hill. After so much time spent around others, Shinjiro can finally sigh of relief at the fact that it’s just them up here. Alone at last.
“Finally…” he can’t help but to mutter, but he receives no response, which feels weird, because usually Aki would waste no time telling him that it wasn’t so bad and that he’s just being a grumpy killjoy.
When he looks to the side, he notices how close he’s standing, his whole body turned towards him. What catches his attention, though, is the intense way he’s staring at him, so intense that it almost makes him feel small, despite the fact that he’s taller.
“What?” he asks.
Akihiko’s reply is instant. “Thanks for coming here, with me. It means a lot.”
Shinjiro mirrors his stance now, so that they can be properly face to face.
“I just agreed to go to the festival with you. It’s not a big deal.”
“It is for me! Shinji, I…”
A whistle, then a bang. That’s all it takes to announce the beginning of the fireworks.
Shinjiro can see them out of the corner of his eyes, but he doesn’t move his gaze from Akihiko, not when the other is staring at him so intently. They’re supposed to enjoy the show, and yet they can’t keep their fucking eyes away from each other, like they’re drawn by an external force that makes it impossible to look away.
Then Akihiko moves, breaking this perfect stasis, reaching for Shinjiro’s hands, holding them tight in his own. The sound of fireworks is too deafening to hear what he’s saying, but Shinjiro couldn’t mistake those three words for anything else in the world; he doesn’t need to actually listen to them to know their meaning.
They both lean in at the same time, slowly but without hesitation, until their lips touch. It’s just a small peck at first, but before Shinjiro can pull away, Akihiko grabs him by the jacket and pulls him closer, pressing their lips together more insistently.
What else can Shinjiro do, if not surrender? Were he a stronger man, he would’ve pushed Akihiko away after the first kiss, but… he missed this, yes, he missed this so much, and now that he has it again, he’s not going to give it up, at least not for the evening.
He’s doing this for Aki, he keeps telling himself. Remember, the story of the happy memory to remember him by? This is part of it.
It’s just an exception, not the rule, of course: how would Aki react when he dies, if they keep going like this? The next day, things will be different, but for now, Shinjiro lets himself go.
It’s been a long time since he’s felt this good…
When they pull away, the fireworks have long stopped, but it matters little to them.
Shinjiro wants to say something, but words are frozen in his throat, unable to come out. Thinking about it later, that was for the best: he would’ve said something very stupid, otherwise.
In the end, it’s Akihiko the one who breaks the silence.
“See? Didn’t I tell you that normal isn’t bad?”
This time, Shinjiro can’t help but to smile, before pulling Akihiko close and kissing him again.
No, it’s not bad at all.

How Ep 7 should’ve actually happened if not for Plot™
OKAY– so I was going to write this as like a scene rewrite BUT i don't want to sksksksks soooorry :D EITHER WAY LET'S GET TO IT BABIES
posting this specially for my angels @pinkchubbiebunnie and @trice-divergent thank you so much for letting me take so much of y'alls time with my bullshit :3
For the purpose of this, I’m going to assume the accusation scene happens somewhat similarly, but the only one who's actually suspicious of Jason is Rachel, cause her thing is directly linked to him and she's more angry and upset than anything. The others will bring the stuff that happened to them but more as in a “huh… something hinky is going on here” and maybe try to investigate it properly
A day after Jason almost dies NO ONE has talked to him until Dawn asks Dick to do it, neither her or Kory seem sure he’s okay enough to do a good job at it – he's obviously distracted with something else. Which leads me to my first 2 points: 1. at least one of them would take that as a clue someone should do a follow up with Jason after Dick talks to him and 2. it's crazy to think that NO ONE ELSE in the entire team didn't even try to check up on Jason – specially Gar or Dawn – that’s stupid at the least and INCREDIBLY out of character at most.
So with that in mind, I'm going to do a character by character “analysis” to show what I think really happened, in an AU where events aren't controlled by Plot™. I'm so glad this is what I'm currently using my psychology education for !! hooray !!
Dick Grayson
Tumblr media
i can't say for sure how much of this is an accurate read on Dick’s personality or and how much is just wishful thinking on my part but let's get to it
Even though Dick is – clearly – going through some stuff I think he’d try to be a little more honest with Jason, like actually talk in complete sentences for one, but also actually make sure Jason at least heard him before he bolts out the building. He could've done more, this whole episode Dick is so worried about the past and its implications on him now that he completely ignores pretty obvious warning signs. There's I think 2 things he says that IF FOLLOWED UP BY ACTUAL SENTENCES could have actually meant something:
“Good thing Conner was there -> “Im sorry” SORRY FOR WHAT?????? BE CLEARER PLEASE !!!! Dick does feel responsible for Jason’s kidnapping AND the fall, he knows Conner being there was pure luck, he knows what would've happened if he wasn't – they both do – so apologize like you mean it, say where you failed and what you are sorry for, you can't just hope the other person is going to guess what you meant, SPECIALLY Jason, he doesn't feel cared for, he thinks you're apologizing just to say it, HELP HIM BELIEVE YOU
“All of this is my fault for going alone” -> “No. I don't think that” This ties into the other paragraph but FINISH YOUR SENTENCES !!! SAY WHAT YOU MEAN !!! You could just be saying that to make Jason feel better, thats what hes gonna think anyways, say the words, tell him “I'm sorry I wasn't there for you” “I'm sorry I let you go” “I'm sorry I let you go alone” HE KNOWS Jason is impulsive, he really thought if he let the teens unattended nothing would’ve happen? And YES Jason is grown enough to make his own decisions this isn't ONLY on Dick BUT he could have tried to be a better mentor to him before all this happened, he should tell Jason that
“Rest up” at the risk of sounding repetitive I'm just gonna say, Dick knows Jason is training like that to keep his mind of the bad thing that happened, he’s done it too – probably still does – tell him it that even tho it can help now it won't solve everything forever, connect with him, share your failures and bad experiences with him BEFORE he’s standing on a fucking ledge.
Hank Hall
Tumblr media
I fell in love with Hank while writing his part, I'm so sorry
I think Hank would be the 2nd to talk to Jason. First I thought he’d go with Dawn or because she asked BUT !! ACTUALLY !! It makes more sense for it to come from him.
His whole job before coming back to the tower was helping at-risk youth was it not? I know it focused more on addiction but suicidal ideation – and life risking behavior in general – is very linked to people who suffer from any substance abuse, not to mention emotional distress/trauma can be the leading cause for developing it as a coping mechanism (look at me and my professional lingo)
He would recognize the signs, is what I'm saying here. Hank and Jason might not be super tight friends but he cares for the kid, that's clear. I can’t decide how he would approach Jason tho, it could go one of two ways: 1. he uses the training room as an excuse – either during sparring or some other training thing (?) like holding the punching bag for Jason or something, idk im not athletic – so it feels more like a conversation than an intervention AND it would be a good bonding moment for them, to show that even tho they find each other UNBEARABLE, they can still be there for one another OR 2. i did say two ways huh well the second way could be the next morning before everything blows up, he tries – although a little emotionally constipated, cause bro dudes – to have an honest conversation with Jason about the risks of isolating himself after a traumatic experience, THAT approach however – like being more direct – might “scare” Jason a little and make him lash out
Dawn Granger
Tumblr media
At first, I had Dawn as the second person who’d talk to Jason, but now I think she’d be third. She's really good at reading people and social situations/cues, so obviously would notice Dick was acting very weird and probably didn’t talk to Jason as well as he could have BUT Hank did go to Jason first, so she’s gonna trust him to do the right thing and talk to the kid when she sees him in the morning – that is, if Hank goes right after dinner, when Jason is still training, which makes the most sense to me.
I think she’d probably talk to Hank first, to see how it went, so she has a better sense of what Jason needs to hear right now. Even if there wasn’t anything to add, she would still wait for him to show up in the common areas — I don’t think she’d go look for him, just wait until “he wants to be found” kinda deal — and the very least tell him she’s glad he’s safe, and offer him a space to talk about what happened. I don’t know how positive of an interaction this would be, but I think anyone — even Jason, in his current emotional state — would find it very hard to snap at Dawn, and IF he did she seems like the person to keep her cool and try and understand their side while still setting down boundaries (she’s so calm when speaking that you’d feel silly for raising your voice, you know?)
Kory Anders
Tumblr media
“You're making me feel helpless and I hate feeling helpless” you cannot tell me this woman wouldn't even THINK to check on her number 1 problem child, like that's stupid. HOWEVER I can’t just ignore her reaction to Jason’s death “he made a mistake and didn't learn from it, now he's dead” which is,,, well accurate BUT the problem isn't that Jason “didn't learn his lesson” after Deathstroke, he did, just not the right one – he learned not to trust anyone but himself, people betray him, leave him for dead, accuse him without proof -> instead of learning to lean on and trust others.
So because of that I think she would talk to Jason at some point but not be very nice and sweet about it, she’d be very direct, to make sure this doesn't happen again. Like not mean either, don’t get me wrong, just direct. I think after all the weird inspirational speech vibes from Dick, Hank and Dawn, Jason would appreciate someone talking to him normally and not “babying him”. I'm assuming things don’t escalate so fast at breakfast, so Kory has time after that scene to talk to him
Like I think Kory would also wait until she sees him, instead of seeking him out, and I can definitely hear her saying something like what she said in season 3 -> “you made a mistake, now you have to learn from it, make sure you’re picking up the right lesson”. Probably the most efficient out of everyone, cause she is still holding Jason accountable for his own actions BUT she’s also letting him know he isn’t a lost cause, so even tho he might still say something annoying or even mean back, he WILL think about what she said for the rest of the day
Donna Troy
Tumblr media
Donna follows the same like as Kory, very straightforward, although I do think she’d check up on Jason for a more “basic” line, like checking how he’s taking care of himself — if he’s eaten, drank water, also warning him about overworking himself — almost in a casual or even “acidic” way tho —> “there's leftovers in the fridge” instead of asking if he’s eaten, demanding to have the gym to herself when she notices him way too long in there, wordlessly pouring him a glass of water if she’s already getting herself some — she’s more actions than words, to me at least
Garfield Logan
Tumblr media
OKAY SO— I realize now I should’ve probably put Gar before Dick for what I'm about to say but idk do that right now. Gar would be the first person to check on Jason after they get back AND it’d go so bad, he’s also the reason dude’s training himself half to death— I'LL EXPLAIN !!!
So Gar is an angel who cares too much for his friends, yes? Of course. AND because of that he feels INCREDIBLY responsible for what happened to Jason: he agreed to go with him check the thing out, didn’t call Dick or tell anyone else where they’d be, agreed to get separated AND didn’t fight harder to go with the older Titans — “maybe with his powers, they’d have a better chance”.
And, unlike Dick, Gar would make that abundantly clear to Jason. But it wouldn’t be well received because Jason isn’t taking Gar’s apology as “I’m sorry I didn’t do more to help you”, he’s hearing it as “sorry I didn’t save you from yourself” WHICH would make him really mad at Gar for “implying” that AND even more mad at himself for doing what he did —> arguing with Gar and then go to the training room to let off some steam from the terrible day/evening he just had
Rachel Roth
Tumblr media
I don't know how to say this without making her seem like an asshole but I don't think she would actively check on Jason. There is already so much on her plate because of her powers, she’s still resenting him a bit for what he said, and the mirror thing happens so soon she doesn’t even HAVE time to go and talk to him. I can’t remember now when she argues with Gar but it’d definitely make her even more mad at the whole situation, even if she’s not completely aware she’s projecting that stuff onto her feeling about Jason.
Extra - Zephyr
Tumblr media
I wasn't going to, but I love to talk about self inserts/OCs SO if my self insert Zephyr – hero name – was part of this shit show, this is the role I’d want her to play !! : D
Little context: she's my on going self insert for just about anything, literally just me but with powers – if the universe demands – and cooler hair – I missed the days of having fantasy colored hair. She always has some version of “air bending” as her power, cause I noticed that a lot of main casts don't have an air bender in their groups
I imagined her having a kinda bickering rivalry with Jason, nothing too serious but also not super buddy buddy, she doesn't go with him and Gar to check out the thing – she’s not aware they left, until Gar gets back – and when Dick leaves with the older Titans, she follows him after he told her to stay in the tower, cause her powers could be useful – and they are :3 – long story short, instead of Dick catching and then dropping Jason, she manages to stop/catch him with her powers, but before she can start either pulling him back up or lowering him to the ground, Slade sneaks up behind her and knocks her tf out and Jason free falls again. (I HAVE THIS SCENE SO CLEAR IN MY BRAIN !! ITS LIKE REALLY GRUESOME AND EVEN MORE TRAUMATIC FOR JASON :D PLZ LMK IF YOU I SHOULD EXPAND ON THIS !!)
SO— because she got her shits absolutely rocked, she would ALSO be in the medical area, in a different room from Conner, I think either Kory and Dawn would switch places to watch them both OR they would stick to Conner and Rachel would be the one keeping an eye on Zephyr. Considering that the two people who did the most to help Jason got fucking wrecked because of it, I think it’s safe to say he’d feel too guilty to visit any of them.
If we go with Rachel on Z watch duty, I think she’d maybe try and use her powers to heal her, not completely tho cause she’s still unsure about them but enough for Z to be able to at least get up next morning, so after helping Kory out with Conner, Rachel would update Z on most of what happened last night: Conner saving Jason, Dick just leaving in the middle of the night, how Jason is doing, etc.
Now Jason doesn’t really goes to breakfast, and the whole thing with Rachel happens pretty early (everyone is still in the kitchen) SO I think the time Z actually goes downstairs (??? I have no clue what the fucking layout of this tower is like) is when all the yelling starts. Like I said in the beginning, the other guys aren’t gonna accuse Jason cause,,, it doesn’t make sense, so there’s not much to defend him from — maybe just help Rachel calm down “you said he was barely leaving his room for anything other than training, what would he do that,,, now specially?”
And only after everyone else starts sharing the weird things/messages they got she tries to talk to Jason, asking him if he’s okay, if he’s eaten, the basics — in their bickering way like “when’s the last time you drank some water ? your lips look chapped as hell” “why are you looking? 👀” — and then after diffusing some of the tenseness, getting a bit more serious with the questions and genuinely apologizing for dropping him (if he tries to change subject/dismiss her/even walk from her, she’s gonna play the “i'm pretty sure I’m concussed” card so he’ll at least stay put)

I'm the anon who sent you an ask a while ago about my anxiety and panic disorder getting worse and me being back in therapy. I wanted to give you an update about how things are going, because I really appreciate the advice you gave me. I'm on anti-anxiety medication now (I just started my meds today). I'm also making some progress on fixing my sleeping and eating schedules (both were off for the past 2-3 months). I also got into a really good masters program for public health +
I start in September. The only thing that's still sort of bothering me is that my mental health still feels like it's in a very stagnant place. I'm also having a small identity crisis, because one of the things my parents have said to me a few times is that they hope I find a nice guy to marry in grad school. I joke about it with them too, but the whole idea makes me uncomfortable. I've never really dated anyone, because I've never been interested in it. I wasn't really attracted to anyone throughout school and college either. I've been questioning if I'm ace or not, but I'm now also wondering whether this lack of attraction also extends to my romantic attraction towards people. Romance and relationships always sound nice to me in theory, but in real life, I'm not super comfortable with them (I think they're a nice normal part of life, but in terms of myself I don't fully connect with them). Could you give me any advice or reassurance about this? Also I hope you're doing well.
Hi friend!
I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better, and even more than that, you're doing the actual work to become better. So much of mental health is stupid mundane bullshit, like making sure you eat your food + meds/hydrate yourself, going the fuck to sleep instead of watching one more episode on netflix, and reaching out to your friends and just chatting for a bit to feel some human connection. I rebelled against all of it haaaaaaaardddddd when I was in my teens/twenties when other well-meaning adults used to tell me and kept wallowing in my misery, thinking "ugh what do they know, they just don't understand meeeeeee", but I hate to say it, they were right (much to my continued distaste. I hate being told to do the sensible thing.)
Mental health is much like any other slow incremental work you do on yourself, like working out. You're not gonna see drastic results in a day or a week or even a month. But keep doing it, and one day, you'll realise, "hey! i can run for longer than i used to without being outta breath!" or "i can lift more than i used to!" or "i am more flexible now!". Similarly, one day, a few months from now, you'll just suddenly realize that you don't feel so anxious ALL the time anymore. Or that a situation that used to stress you into having panic attacks seems more manageable now. It takes time for your brain chemistry to react to the meds and lifestyle changes, so give yourself that space. It's a daily effort. And if you slip up a day or two (everyone does. I was late with my own meds today), it's fine. Just get back up the next day. A day's miss doesn't undo all the work you've done; making bad choices a continuous pattern does.
The comment from your parents about the marriage thing is just that, a casual comment. It's a half-joke, that you also play along with occasionally. Treat it as just that. In no way are you compelled to do anything you're not comfortable with. Anyway, right now your focus should be on doing your best at your degree and building an independent life for yourself. Use this time to get to know yourself better; you may or may not experiment, educate yourself, whatever you want. See if these type of relationships are meaningful to you, adding value to your life, making you happier. These are things you should figure out for yourself, by yourself, and there's no "deadline" for it. (Hell, I'm in my 30s and I'm still doing it!) Whatever you choose to be and do in your romantic life (including NOT having one) is valid. It's all about what feels authentic to you as a person, and not what other people want from/for you as part of the ideal picture of you in their minds!
Sending you lots of love and good vibes!!!!!!!! ✨✨✨

Loneliness
Tumblr media
One of the main things in my life that I struggle with, and that I don't think gets talked about enough, is loneliness.
I'm at the ripe age of 23. I'm at the prime-time where friendships, particularly female friendships, should be the highlight of my life right now. I should be going out drinking (or a different meet-up activity, as I don't actually drink or like risking going out at night in this currant climate), sending memes and inside jokes to the group chat, checking in on a group of women my own age who do the same for me.
But I don't. I have a best friend, but due being busy and other life issues, we don't talk like we used to. Aside from her, there really is no other friend. My colleagues are all older than me, at a completely different life stage, and the only colleague my own age has her own friends who appear to not match my own lifestyle.
I used to have a friend group - five or so girls in my teen years who I went to school with. We would hang out all the time, message each other constantly - not necessarily relatable to adults but still a nice little social and fun group I could rely on.
Naturally, we grew apart as we got older. They changed and went out partying, while I, at the time, was isolated due to my mental health troubles, and I don't like alcohol (as established). Unfortunately, in hindsight I realised it wasn't really a good group of friends. I was very weird (annoyingly so, but I refuse to even entertain the thoughts of my irritating, not-self-aware younger self), and it was obvious, looking back, that they mostly tolerated me, and often left me out of things.
It was also, considering we were a group of hormonal teens, pretty toxic at times too, but I'm happy to say I, at least, have grown up a lot since then and can put that kind of behaviour behind me.
University was a struggle too. As a highly socially anxious young adult, following my stressful few years of intense mental health issues, I really found it difficult to open up to people. In lessons, I'd remain as quiet as possible; I didn't start conversations or join in; I tried a few societies but they just weren't the right fit for me - or maybe I didn't give them enough of a chance.
It took lockdown, a time for reflection for myself and my personal struggles, to see that I was lonely and I wasn't helping myself. I didn't try enough to join in and make the effort - and I couldn't expect other people to always do so first, especially if I gave off the blank-faced, unapproachable (but secretly fearful of looking stupid) vibe.
When I went to university again for my masters degree, I made far more of an effort - I chatted and instigated conversation, said yes to certain meet-ups and really pushed myself to being open and friendly. It didn't get too far, as many in the year-long course had their own friends, and I wasn't entirely perfect at being the right social person, but I knew I could do it. Practice, after all, makes perfect.
Now that I've started work, and I'm steadily trying to figure out what the hell I want to do with my life (more on that another time), I'm gradually trying to let myself be open to any opportunities, conversation, anything.
But it's hard. Seeing people on social media in their tight-knit groups makes me feel like I'm the problem. It feels like I'm the only person in the world incapable of - and undeserving - of friendships. As much as I know social media is a facade at times, there's no denying that there are truly beautiful friendships out there.
However, I use this as something to hold on to, and something to hope for. Knowing that great friendships exist is wonderful, and it's special to know that when the right time comes along, I will meet the right people I click with. I wouldn't want to force any kind of connection, as in my experience trying too hard doesn't work and it's just emotionally exhausting.
Without trying to sound ridiculously over-positive (I can't stand the high-key promotions of being 'happy happy happy!' that saturate social media, it's just not possible to be as joyful as a Cbeebies programme all the time), there is a blessing to having minimal friends. I get to work on the most important friendships I have - the one with myself.
Disgustingly saccharine, I know, but I've spent the past few years working on my mental health issues and actually working through CBT, getting two degrees and simply enjoying the small things. I love being creative, I adore films, I'm a huge reader. The introvert in me gets to enjoy the comfort of staying in and working on my private hobbies.
Of course I want to branch out still - there's such a thing as getting too comfortable in solitude, especially as someone who clearly still misses frequent socialising - but in the meantime I can focus on myself and the activities that bring me joy.
Early twenties are complicated, and I'm still trying to figure out what the hell I'm going to do. I don't see myself sticking to this job forever, or putting down roots in my home for too long, so I need this quiet time to work it out, find the right career for me and just let things progress naturally.
It's time I start being kinder to myself, and I'm not going to get that self-respect, self-esteem or self-love from other people. Tying my worth into other people - whether they're in my life as my friends or not - only ends badly, as I've learnt before.
Loneliness doesn't mean failure, or that I suck as a person, or that this is going to be my future. It just means my life is a little bit more quiet right now, and I have all this time to look after myself.
If you're like me, feeling completely isolated in your loneliness like you're the only young adult struggling, you're definitely not alone. It's rarely talked about, but that doesn't mean other lacking-in-friends people aren't out there. We're just don't shout about it, and we're probably socially awkward introverts too.

MonoXol voice lines she'd say if KF was an actual game (making this for myself)
------
Asked/answering a question:
"Ah, apologies for the confusion, mate."
" Oh, the answer to that is, "
"Ah. OFC, apologies for not answering sooner"
" Aighto! "
" Oh, I ken how to answer this"
"Sorry mate, I can't answer your question RN. It'd ruin the fun."
"Oh, OFC, I'll get right on that."
"Aighto, mate"
"Aighto, I'll do that now."
"Aighto then!"
" O okay"
-----
Announcing:
"Ahoy/Yo!"
" Aighto, mates, "
"Alright, it's time to make an announcement,"
" The truth is,"
" Now's my chance"
"Alright, good luck with this!"
"Yippee,"
" Are you ready, favorites? "
"without further ado,"
" introducing, "
------
Expressing confusion (without emotion of course):
"Huh?"
" apologies for the misunderstanding, mate. "
"sorry mate, guess you're just smarter than me,"
" Ah, apologies, I don't get it. "
"What? It's my job?"
" this is my job, though"
" It's??? My??? Job??? "
" ....Aighto "
" O okay"
-----
Disagreement/objection:
"Apologies, this isn't well written!"
"Objection, I'll rewrite that logic!"
"Hold on, please"
"it's my job to help you realize your mistake, mate."
"You're mistaken, but good job mate! "
"LOL, DW you can admit to this mistake, no judgement."
"I will fix this trial for you now."
"Please hold it, favorites!"
" I hope this objection is fun from you, mate. "
"As it is my job, I'll tell you what you're wrong about."
"Good effort, even if it's wrong"
"The story's all off!"
"I ken something better!"
------
 Agreement/consent:
"Yeah, I agree with that!"
" What a well written argument! "
" Ooo, GJ mate! "
" I kent you'd get it! "
" Not picking favorites, but that was a good one! "
" nodding in agreement"
"O okay"
"That's it!"
-----
Cut/No longer fitting/honorable mentions:
"Smile, you're on camera and making yourself look stupid. " Too rude for a MonoXol line, also too long.
"correcting you is my least favorite part of my job, but it's not my job to pick favorites!" too long, too forced.
"Yikes, mate." Too rude for a MonoXol line.
" Noooope. Nope nope nope. Try again, please. " Even with the please, too rude. MonoXol is also somewhat of a pushover unless being asked to end the game or a motive.
"Woah, you're smart, figure it out!" Seems out of character, MonoXol loves to help, and wouldn't decline like this.
" :) " " :( " " >:) " And any other thing where he somehow says this aloud, if there was to be an actual voice how would they say these the way MonoXol does.
------
I'll add more later when I think of them. I am so sorry for always talking about Killing Favorites I just really like playing it.
some notes:
Important part about these is that exclamation points as well as other things, MonoXol doesn't express emotion.
MonoXol can sound however you'd like. feminine, masculine, androgynous, anything.
MonoXol is still a teen, it's voice probably wouldn't be that adult.

YELLOW JACKETS S2 FINALE LIVEBLOG 🐝 🐝
Warning spoilers ahead.
Tumblr media
-Rest in Peace Dolores. (A fitting song now that I think on it.)
-R.i.p Javi, I really wanted my fellow art kid to survive. I really did.
- Someone knock that fucking table with the Jonestown tea over please. Lottie is doing the absolute fucking most but also Shauna is correct for doing this. When your friends are paranoid you do have to talk them down, but you also need to not make them feel like they are wrong or insane. Because then they may get a little more than upset. I say this as a person with paranoia.
- Personally I think as teens they should gave never fully believed Lottie even if faith was all that was keeping them alive. They could've used that faith to be more resourceful and hop skip their asses to hike. Just like now they should use that faith to call a doctor and NOT do this faux hunt. Maybe a little belief is okay but nothing where a child is seen as prophet who helps everyone survive. Thats pressure that will crack even a non mentally ill person.
- They are all partly responsible for Charlotte being as bad as she is now and as bad as she got. She didn't start anything she just interacting with whatever force may be out there coupled with her mental illness, they all just wanted an excuse to satiate their hunger. Now the way Lottie looked at Misty when she showed up at the camp makes even more sense, she was afraid of her.. These girls, starting with Shauna, rationalized their eatting of Jackie based on their hunger. Then they rationalize it with Javi by using Lottie's belief and mental illness, even though she doesn't want that weight. And now as adults they rationalize their bad behavior and fuck ups by saying "trauma fucked me up" or "this is fine I'm just a little stressed." They know the right thing but age regressed trauma, no talking about their trauma, and pretending to have happy lives or placate it with drugs is just more rationalizing of we did that because something happened to us.
Tumblr media
- I was right about the masks and Shauna with the rabbits from season 1. I said in my s1 watch that the masks have always been so they didn't feel as bad about what they were doing, even though it was clear some of them enjoyed it.
- A GUN???? A shotty???
- Awww look at these cute theatre kids.
- Tai is sick very sick but not ward sick, woah lets not do this Van. They both don't need to be institutionalized but they do need proper therapy and medication.
- Shauna is hot with knives I'm sorry Melanie lynsky is my weaknes.
- Is Lottie gonna poison her followers?
- I hope that smug bitch of a cop is the sacrifice.
Tumblr media
- I want all these purple clothes and whatever dye they are using. I bet Walter poisoned the tea.
- Well I called that, damn I liked him. Should have been that smug bitch yelling in the background.
- Whoever made that theory about coach simply not making it to the rescue point because he's in that hole, I love you because I think you're correct. Also, the transition from striking flint to light in the cabin wonderful choice TV editors.
- They could at least idk bury the heart, have a little funeral for the boy or create a new tradition with it. Come on now.
- Well okay then Daenerys, but also the metaphor similar to Shauna eatting Jackie's ear. Those lost to the cold are now a piece of them inside them, making them a little colder everyday from the inside out as time goes on. Their trauma with time grows but so does all of the guilt they carry from the inside. Both of them coping with the fact that they both, Travis and Shauna, gave everyone permission to eat their closest person.
Tumblr media
- I adore the things they are doing with the audio and Buffy Sainte-Marie's song. No matter what happens i really appreciate the sound and music direction of this show. Oh Charlotte.
- Van not calling the facility wellness crisis team is so fucking stupid. NATALIE!!!!?!?!??? At least they all admit its their fault.
- This is so beautiful and so fucked up. I want them all to hug Lottie so badly, why don't they just hug her and hold her? Why don't they just be there for each other in moments of stress. They don't need to do this, I think that could be the whole tagline for this show. NO ONE NEEDS TO DO THIS.
Tumblr media
- Callie!!!!?!?!? GET OUT OF THE WOODS, GET OUT OF THE WOODS.
- SHE PROBABLY FUCKING POISONED THEM ALL. Nooooo lottie nooooo please someone stop this.
- Van was pulled back into this cult of the wilderness fast as fuck, this is what happens when you have nothing to loose. Dark Tai is about to come out to play, so is everyone else's dark side. This is so damn tense and yet Lottie is still even as an adult wishing for it to be her. Her own form of self harm and relief would be to be the queen.
Tumblr media
-Oh this all just got very very real.
-"IT WAS JUST US" and Lotties "does it matter?"
Tumblr media
- Fuck. They know what they did deep down and why it scares them isn't because its trauma and hunger, but because it was their own choice. And that is a deep deep trauma that only survivors can experience, a guilt that will never go away.
- The storyteller, the sleepwalker, the priest, the doctor, the hunter, the butcher, and the antler queen.
- Oh Lottie, she HAD to separate herself from this wilderness construct just so she wouldn't completely loose her mind. Then she passed it to the next person and they passed it to the next and the next until there wasn't anyone or enough to pass it to. And then they had to look in the mirror and realize it was just them when they were rescued. A group of kids with a false religion they created to justify the actions they made in their hunger and desperation.
Tumblr media
- His heart. The tension is grows please stop everyone just stop..
- Oh Nat. Oh Misty.
- She was finally sober, that card finally checked in. The wilderness is just death. It follows us all. They came so close to it in a final destination way that it just looms behind and in them, waiting. Waiting for Tai to embrace it with open eyes and the rest when their eyes finally close.
Tumblr media
- These girls make me so angry because of their starved or childish actions, they are so the same and yet different from before the crash. Yet still, seeing them as grown women who simply reflections of young girls and kids that are damaged and near death makes me want to hug them so tight. Misty fucked up all of their lives by smashing that black box in a juvenile attempt to be loved.
- Coach you are so fucked up for that but I get it. Those girls took everything they could, he knew they would tear eachother apart even without survival. So he left them to the cold. Any humanity and hope they had is now gone with their shelter. But it also now will provide a giant signal that may get them home in....10 months?
Tumblr media
- I need a drink or one of nats cigarettes.
Final thoughts: These writers know how to do a red herring right! Of course the pacing gets better in the last episode of the season but I desperately need them to work on middle of the season pacing and getting down the timeline flipping to a science. Great finale with some misses but a good wrap up if this strike lasts a long while. Imma miss my leather jacket baddie. Heavens gate honey should be the NOT cult's new flavor. Also, I think in the future the group can lie to cover up the Kevyn connection by saying that he and Nat reconnected and were doing drugs together and that's how it got into both of their system. The toxicology won't lie but they might get away per se if they say the drugs were laced. Damn her whole non soccer highschool friend group is gone.
Edit: HUGE FINAL POINT I REALIZED, all of them except Van, she is ready to die, had hidden weapons in their final hunt. Tai became sleep Tai, Natalie had her shiv, Misty had a needle with fent, Lottie brought an actual sharp knife, and Shauna had unknowingly Callie with a gun. None of them trust eachother enough to think they won't murder eachother in a *faux* hunt. What does that say about what else they did out there? Also this mimics what Shauna said last episode that she would murder their spouses if they did what Jeff did. She also left the circle terrified because they may chase her but they also might not, and she can't be sure if its because of the past or her recent fuck ups. The risk that they might have actually killed whoever pulled that card no matter the rouse to save Lottie or not was present to all of them. They are still those girls.
(Insert Gif of Natalie smiling)

not a secret anymore
natasha romanoff x fem!teen!reader
summary: nat reveals a secret to the public when your class takes a learning journey to the tower.
requested: yes
warnings: might come off as half assed writing because this probably is one of my worst works i'm so sorry 😭😭
word count: 1681
notes: i'm so sorry i haven't been writing much, i've recently just gotten extremely busy so i had no time to sit down and write (this one was literally written between all the short breaks i had 😫) and i have a few requests piling up so i hope you guys can understand if they come later <3
"hi, y/n!" ally, an agent, greeted you as you, along with your classmates, walked through the east wing hallway of the tower. your classmates—except for peter, ned and mj— turned to look at you with confused looks.
your class was having a learning journey at the avengers tower and you had contemplated on calling in sick to avoid people who worked in the tower acknowledging you around your classmates.
you were actually an avenger—yeah, crazy—, having been rescued during one of the many avengers' hostage rescue missions few years ago. you were able to single-handedly take down a few of your captors, hence why the team took interest in you then.
now, though you had been trained enough, they decided to keep you a secret in order to protect you. lord knows how many people would try hurt you if they ever found out the avengers had a new, teenage recruit. peter was technically still safe as his alter-ego is masked so you had no choice but to only go on missions that weren't in the public eye.
you also lived in the tower so the agents and staff were undoubtedly familiar with you, some even friends with you, just like ally, who had just passed by with a wave of her hand at you before turning the corner.
"did that lady just acknowledge you?" an annoying voice spoke from beside you in a mocking tone. you gulped, not wanting to respond to flash's irrelevant question.
"hey, loser, i'm talking to you," he nudged your arm with his elbow and you held the urge to grab it and flip his whole body upside down. it's not like you couldn't—you had the skills, obviously— but it's the fact that you didn't want to get in trouble for that.
you ended up keeping quiet, like you always did whenever the boy taunted you. peter taught you to do just that. if it were up to you, flash's stupid face wouldn't even dare to show itself in front of you anymore.
speaking of peter, he was nowhere to be seen by now. you internally rolled your eyes. it had only been two minutes and they were already gone. peter was probably showing them around the place. you had no idea how your teacher didn't notice the three of them missing from your group. you were so going to kill them for ditching you and leaving you alone when they knew they were your only friends. they were also the reason why flash still had his head to this day because they'd stop you from doing anything rash. now you weren't sure if flash would be safe from your fury.
"you probably work here as a cleaner on the weekends or something, huh? that's the only way people here would know you," flash jeered. you let out a breath, trying to control your anger towards the boy.
you rolled your eyes, opting to deliberately ignore his insults and walk away instead, hoping you'll bump into those three idiots of friends of yours.
"did you just ignore me?" flash asked incredulously, as if it was a crime to ignore his annoying ass. he pulled you back by your back collar, effectively halting you in your spot.
by instinct, you grabbed his hand that was on your collar, twisting it and turning his whole body around, pinning him against the wall with his twisted arm pressed against his back. it happened in just two seconds which totally caught flash off guard, the boy groaning in pain as he begged you to let him free.
you could hear a series of gasps from all around you and you internally groaned. this is why you always ignored flash's taunting. you didn't want to attract attention to yourself and have people wonder how you could defend yourself so well. but flash just had to provoke you. especially here, out of all places.
"what's going on here?" you heard a familiar voice ask and you sighed.
"oh my gosh! it's the black widow!"
"miss romanoff!"
"oh my gosh, i'm gonna need to get a picture for my mum later, she's gonna freak out!"
you stepped away from flash, releasing him as he dramatically kept rubbing at his arm. as if you even put that much pressure. flash smirked, seeing this as a chance to complain about you to an official avenger.
"this girl right here," flash points an accusing finger at you with a glare, like he wasn't just practically begging for his life twenty seconds ago. "attacked me."
you rolled your eyes, unamused. "i hardly attacked him." you told nat. the woman turned to you, an eyebrow raised as she gave you a knowing look. "this...?" she trailed off and you nodded, knowing what she was insinuating. you'd told her about flash one too many times for her not to immediately figure out who he is from a crowd of students.
"flash thompson. heard a lot about you," she turned to the boy. flash's face lit up, thinking he must've made a name for himself or something that even the black widow knew him. little did he know he did, but not for good reasons.
"i would prefer if you stop messing with y/n/n." nat gave him a sharp look and that grin was immediately wiped off his face. "i– y/n/n?" he stuttered, confused that the natasha romanoff is calling you by a nickname.
"you do know she can kick your ass if she wanted to, right? she's been silent all this while because she didn't want to hurt you but you just never seem to learn, huh?" nat took slow, calculated steps towards him until she was towering over him.
"she doesn't need anyone to protect her because she's fully capable of that but i'm just here to warn you, kid, that she, is not to be meddled with. i'm saying this for your own good, flash thompson. she's capable of much worse than whatever she just did to you. so if i hear you messing around with her or any of her friends," she pauses before continuing with a whisper. "i'll close one eye on whatever she wants to do with you."
you wished you could've taken a picture of the dead scared look on flash's face; it was priceless. you turned to nat once she stepped away from him and she put an arm around your shoulder, leading you both away from the watching crowd.
"i–i'm sorry, miss romanoff," you could hear one of your teachers say and nat stopped, effectively stopping you too as she had you in her hold. "but miss y/l/n is on a learning journey with us and she'll miss the tour of the tower if she leaves with you. we'll be discussing a lot regarding this trip in class and she won't understand what we talk about if she misses this tour. i hope you understand." he spoke nervously.
"with all due respect, y/n's seen the whole tower already," she smiles at him but you could tell it was fake. "even the avengers' residential floors which are closed to the public and most employees of the tower."
your teacher looked at her wide-eyed, mouth open but nothing coming out. nat smiles a fake one once again. "now if you'll excuse us, the both of us have avenger duties to attend to."
gasps could be heard all around you and in the midst of it all, your best friends came back and you made eye contact with them, all of them having the same shocked look on their face.
"avenger duties?! nat, what are you doing?!" you whisper-yelled at the woman who seemed to be enjoying the reactions of your classmates and teachers.
"y/n!" peter ran over to you, your other friends following suit. "oh, um hi miss romanoff," he greets shyly. "thanks a lot, guys, look what happened." you spoke sarcastically, rolling your eyes at them. nat proceeded to drag you away from your friends and the last thing you saw was them mouthing apologies and you half-heartedly mouthing to them back that it was fine.
"relax, y/n/n, the public were about to find out soon anyways." nat said nonchalantly. "what?!" you exclaimed once you two were in a different hallway.
"yeah, you're gonna have press this weekend for this. we're gonna officially announce you to the world as an avenger." she once again says nonchalantly, as if this wasn't the first time you were hearing this. "wait, wait, wait, seriously?" you asked in disbelief. no one had told you anything.
"yeah, i—ohh yeah, you don't know yet," nat remembers and you give her an unimpressed look. she wasn't usually this dumb; she only showed this side of her to you. "sorry, i uh, yeah.. i was supposed to come get you for this. meeting with fury and the rest, yknow?" she tells you and you nodded slowly, taking in the information.
"but tell me it didn't feel good that you got to do that to flash," the woman states excitedly and you playfully rolled your eyes at her. "you got to do something. i'm practically an empty threat to him," you stated matter-of-factly.
"not after this weekend you're not. he'll be afraid of you after. that's what you get for being a smelly bully." you couldn't help the little smile on your face. she really sounded like a child right now and it was adorable.
"alright, natty, whatever you say. let's go before fury releases his fury." you look at her hopefully, waiting for her to laugh at your joke which she responded with an unimpressed look. that of course didn't work as you two burst out laughing looking at each other's faces.
you walked alongside her, the woman resting an arm around your shoulder. you smiled up at her as she talked about her day.
god, you couldn't wait to be able to finally walk out in public with these people you considered family.

Practicing
Pairing: Jade West x fem!reader
Rating: SFW
Word Count: 1800+
Warnings: mention of drugs
Request: no
AN: I know I’m still not done with requests, but I just really wanted to get in a Jade West oneshot. I don’t think Jade is out of character all that much, but I’d love feed back.
Tumblr media
Things sucked. Like. They royally sucked.
When Beck and Jade broke up for the second time, it felt like a dark, ominous was looming over the group of talented teens. No one needed to be a genius to realize that both Jade and Beck with miserable. Not just because they were no longer together, but the breakup was emotionally draining.
And despite it all, y/n couldn’t help but feel a little bit hopeful. She and Jade had been friends since middle school when Jade pushed a boy off his seat because he was bullying Y/n. They were pretty different. Actually very different personality-wise. Y/n was what Jade described as a hippie fairy. Which contrasted Jade’s vampire personality completely.
But there were just enough similarities to keep them together. Their hatred for the patriarchy. Interests in a feel-good green herb. They both started practicing Wicca together. And they were killer on the mic.
         It was a fine balance.
And over the years, Y/n couldn’t help but fall for the girl. Snarling personality and all.
She still recalls when Jade and Beck started dated. How at first she just thought she was annoyed at how Jade didn’t spend as much time with her but later realized that she was indeed feeling jealous.
She knew it was terrible to be glad they’re no longer together, but she couldn’t help it.
The first thing she saw when she approached her locker was the dark clothed girl waiting for her; standing cooly against the wall of lockers.
“Morning.” Y/n greeted her with a smile. Jade hummed her greeting in response, waiting for her friend to get her things from the locker. “How you doing?” Jade sent her a glare, knowing that Y/n what trying to get her to talk about the breakup.Y/n mumbled a “nevermind” and closed the locker.
“Do you have plans later?” Jade grumbled as the two started to walk to Sicowitz’s class.
“Uh, yeah. I’m finishing up my script for my play.”
“The one about the girl who turns into a dragon and then the prince who’s supposed to save her kills her on accident.”
“That’s the one,” Y/n finger-gunner. “I’m trying to figure out how to make the finally really pull at the heartstrings.”
         “Make it gruesome,”
“I’ll make a note of it.”
The class was already about to start by the time they entered and most people were engaged in their own conversations. Y/n saw Jade and Beck make eye contact. The same longing look on their faces. But stubbornness kept either of them from saying anything.
“Hey, uh do you want to come over? Help me with the play?” Y/n asked, getting Jade’s attention again.
“Sure. It’s not like I have any plans.” Jade shrugged before taking a seat upfront.
Y/n smiled and took the seat next to her friend. A nervous feeling in the pit of her stomach grew as she already started to expect her friend’s arrival.
“Good day, class!” The eccentric teacher barged into the room. “Your a pack or wolves engaged in a dance party!” He announced, prompting the teans to get up from their seats and act out the prompt.
Tumblr media
         Knock Knock Knock
The front door of Y/n’s house sounded. With a furrowed brow and her hair still wet, the girl opened the door revealing Jade with two coffees
“You’re early,” Y/n stated the obvious.
“Only cause I got bored. Now you want your coffee or not?” The dark haired girl outstretched her arm to hand her the tall cup.
Y/n smiled appreciativly, taking the cup and stepping to the side.
“Alright. So what does your play need?” Jade asked, already getting down to business. She walked straight to the living room and plopped herself on the blanketed couch.
“Well, uh. It's mainly the last scene. Where the dragon turns back into a maiden and the prince realizes what he's done.” Y/n described, sitting next to Jade and grabbing the laptop from the coffee table.
“Ah, so it’s angsty.” Jade smiles and leaned closer to Y/n to get a look at the document with the script.
“Yeah.” Y/n’s voice cracked as she tried to compose herself over her friends close proximity. “So, I was thinking that once he realizes his mistake, he holds her close. I want him to have a monologue. Describing how he'd never get the chance to talk to her, see her, you know typical human relationship things.”
“Alright so what's the problem?” Jade asked, not seeing why Y/n needed her there. Not that she was mad, she loved being around her. And truthfully, she missed hanging out and not having Beck in the back of her mind.
“It just feels like it's missing something. You know.” Y/n said with a tinge of frustration in her voice. “Like. There's something that isn't making the plot complete enough for him to have that monologue. He loves her, but it doesn't feel like he does enough.”
Without warning, Jade took the laptop from her lap.
“I’ll read it.” she grumbled. “You go dry your hair or something.”
“Good idea.” Y/n agreed, leaving the couch and beading back to her bathroom.
“And order a pizza!” She heard Jade shout.
It didn’t take long for Y/n to dry her hair and put the pizza order in. And by the time she got back into the living room, Jade was finished with reading over the script. Instead, she was now holding her new pair of scissors and examining the blades.
“Figure anything out?” Y/n asked, getting the girl’s attention.
“Yeah.” Jade put down the scissors and turned her body to face Y/n as she came in and sat down. “Your characters don’t kiss.”
Y/n month dropped and she bit her bottom lip awkwardly.
“Well, I was thinking about putting one in, but I thought it would be better if there weren’t one. Think about the symbolism behind it. Without the action, it’s expressing how the two never truly experienced being together.” She explained.
Jade hummed and nodded as if she were understanding.
“That’s stupid.” she said. Somehow both calmly and aggressively. Y/n furrowed her brow and tilted her head. Asking without words for Jade to go on. “Y/n the script is good, the storyline is paced well, blah blah blah. But the only thing that isn't good is the way you're presenting that they are in love. You want the audience to be heartbroken for the guy, show them that he loved her.”
“Okay, so, where do you recommend it goes?” Y/n asked, grabbing the laptop and scrolling through.
“Obvious. Scene 4, during the confession, I think after she falls from the tree.” Jade said. Y/n quickly went there and read it over, thinking about how to go about it.
“You don't think it's a little fast?” Y/n asked, twisting her face as unsureness creeped into her mind.
“Course not. You've already presented their infatuation for each other, and after that scene their relationship is already escalating more quickly. If anything it makes more sense.”
She was right. Y/n knew it. But she couldn't shake the fact that having this discussion with Jade felt unreal. Perhaps because Y/n was crushing on her, but also because while Jade was very knowledgeable in entertainment, relationships were more of a ‘on the surface’ knowledge.
Typing quickly the placement of the kiss, Y/n let out a heavy breath.
“And it’s in.” She announced mainly for herself.
“Good.” Jade nodded, now smirking at her friend. “You wanna see how it flows with the scene?”
Y/n kept scrolling down the document to the ending, avoiding looking at the vampiresque girl.
“Uh, ” She cleared her throat to avoid cracking her voice. “What do you mean?”
“Well do the scene, me and you. As then you can make the final choice on whether you like it or not.” Jade explained casually.
“Yeah, okay. We can do that.”
Despite sounding calm and nonchalant on the outside, Y/n was screaming on the inside. Surely Jade wasn't actually intending on kissing her right? They’d work up to it and then stop, right? No kiss?
“Cool, I'll be the guy and do you have it all memorized?” Jade started, grabbing the laptop and placing it on her lap.
“Yep, it's all in my noggin.” Y/n knocked on her head awkwardly, receiving a disapproving look from Jade.
“I’ll start at the beginning of the confession.” The dark haired girl announced, reading the lines. Then she looked up, right into Y/n’s eyes. “Tell me, Ayleth, do you feel what I feel.”
“Why, I'm not quite sure what you mean, my prince.” Y/n continued, swallowing her nervousness.
“When you look into my eyes, do you as well feel that fire? The one raging inside of your heart and coursing through you. Making you think illogically, wanting nothing more than to be consumed completely by you.”
“One shouldn't think illogically. One must think about their duties, their-”
“That wasn't the question.” Jade acted, her usual roughness and anger dropped as she said her lines. “Do you love me?”
“I suppose it would be unwise to try to divert the conversation.”
“Most unwise. Especially to your prince.”
“Well. Yes. I believe I do.”
There was silence between the two. This was where the kiss was written. In the quiet, they both seemed to be questioning whether they would actually kiss or not. They both leaned in, slowly but surely. Y/n’s heart sped up and she wondered whether Jade was feeling the same. No, of course not. It's part of the scene. She's just acting, obviously.
The inches between them soon turned to fractions of an inch. And their lips were so close to meeting.
         Knock knock knock.
They were interrupted by the door. “Y/n pulled away immediately.
“Pizza. I’ll get it.” She chuckled nervously and got up.
“They can wait.” Jade said instead. She grabbed Y/n’s wrist and pulled her back down on the couch.
Before Y/n knew it, Jade placed a firm kiss on Y/n’s lips. Though shocked, Y/n quickly reciprocated the kiss. Jade placed her hand on Y/n’s cheek, while the other girl’s hand went to Jade’s waist. By now, Y/n’s heartbeat was going a million miles per minute and both girls forgot about the person waiting at the door.
         Until they knocked again.
“Give us a minute!” Jade shouted angrily before turning back to her, uh friend? Y/n was giggling at her rage over small things like that. Jade noticed not only that her dark blue lipstick had smudged onto Y/n’s face, but that she also had a deep red blush that covered her face almost completely.
“Should we practice again?” Jade asked instead of bring it up. And when Y/n nodded, she didn’t waste another second to lean in again, kissing her with more depth than the one before.

talking about toh | season two, episode eight: "knock knock knockin' on hooty's door"
holy shit
sorry this was a few days late, i was equal parts busy and lazy.
previous | first | next spoilers under the cut, as always
the beginning
awww hooty’s writing to lilith! like he promised!
btw, just so you guys know, i’ll be referring to hooty with he/they pronouns, because it makes sense to me. also i use he/they and i’m a hooty stan so it works.
I realize now that i spelled “hootsifer” wrong in my url. oh well, i like “hootcifer” better anyway. (also the url “hootsifer” is taken anyway)
oh no, hooty feels unimportant! i’m sure the large majority of the fandom is okay with this, but i’m not! poor thing.
i found it adorable that luz wants to find a way into amity's heart (even though she's had a place there since grom). how she would use the echo mouse for that, i don't know.
luz saying "we have to go" was almost a direct parallel to amity saying "I GOTTA GO" in "wing it like witches".
king's plot
i love how king is going through his angsty teen phase. that's hilarious.
why the fuck does hooty just eat people?! and then just act like that's an okay thing to do?!
i think it's a fun detail that hooty is wearing king's teacher hat from "the intruder". i love little things like that.
i like how this episode gave us some lore as to how demons on the isles work. they emerged from the muck of a decomposing titan? that's dope! it's also cool how there's three main types of demons.
hooty is a worm?!
on the board with all the bug demons, i recognized the butterfly alador kept chasing in "escaping expulsion", as well as adagast from "witches before wizards", the bear trap demon from "the intruder", and the kindergarten teacher from "i was a teenage abomination".
it was neat to see the fairy from "a lying witch and a warden" and the butterfly... thing from "witches before wizards". more neat continuity stuff!
what did king say with his dance? i'm very curious.
maybe king didn't want to talk about the cocoon, but i certainly do! what the hell happened?!
because of some of the images in the background when hooty was talking about demons, we can infer that some students of hexside are demons and not witches. i wonder if witches are more powerful than demons, or if they're on the same level.
other biped demons i recognize are the bounty hunter, tibbles, one of the pirates, warden wrath, and braxus.
i also saw a cat-person. are catgirls and catboys a thing on the isles?
i like how tiny nose and hooty are friends. somehow, it makes sense.
was tiny nose playing on a nintendo switch? that's cool.
we got to see even more past demons from the section about beasts, such as the ratworms, the echo mouse, the trash slug, the selikdomus, the slitherbeast, and the snaggleback.
has tiny nose's voice changed, or is that just me?
i'm really curious as to what the heck king is. is he a unique kind of demon? a hybrid, maybe?
i thought it was sweet that hooty and tiny nose tried to celebrate king for who he is, even though it just made him sad. they're trying.
eda's plot
hooty had a good point in wanting eda to sleep. sleep is important! says the guy who regularly stays up until at least midnight.
i completely understand hooty's fear of the owl beast. remember what happened last time?
the cookies hooty made were very cute. i loved that.
hey, the sleeping nettles are back! the same thing luz and hunter used a few episodes back to put kikimora's steed to sleep.
we got to see eda's dad! we know very little about him, but we did see him. also, did he look like nigel thornberry to anyone else? no? just me? okay then.
it broke my heart seeing raine and eda breaking up. it was neat that we got confirmation that they were together!
eda clearly regrets pushing raine away. poor thing.
who is the cloaked figure? i've seen a lot of theories that it's amity, but that makes no sense. i don't think she was even alive at this point. it could be odalia, though. that would be a cool twist.
the little owl beast was so cute. i want a plush of that.
HARPY EDA! holy shit, she's so cool. top tier character design.
luz (and amity)'s plot
you better bet your ass i have a lot to say about this! plot! okay, let's start from the beginning.
i was really hoping we would get some mutual pining lumity this season, and by god did it deliver! luz referring to her as a "cotton-candy-haired goddess" was too cute.
from what she said, it sounds like this isn't the first time luz has tried to ask someone out. she's so afraid of getting rejected. wait a minute, amity was afraid of getting rejected too! that's a parallel i didn't even realize!
i wasn't expecting to see amity this episode! it looks like her parents let her keep her purple hair. that, or the twins are using illusions to hide her hair from their parents.
i love how hooty's solution to getting amity to the owl house is to straight-up eat her. that's one way to do things.
i really want to know more about house demons. are there more than one? are they all bird-like? are they born as houses or do they just inhabit houses? so many questions and not enough lore!
the way luz interrupted amity when she suggested "forgetting" about what happened in front of blight manor reminded me of how eda kept interrupting king last episode when she thought he was going to tell her he was planning on leaving.
i'm not gonna lie, i skipped through the majority of the tunnel of love scene. that kind of thing gives me second-hand embarrassment like you wouldn't believe.
my heart shattered into pieces when amity said that the idea of her adting luz was stupid. she obviously doesn't believe it, but she's probably been trying to convince herself of it.
this part had me terrified that the lumity plot for the episode would end there. thank goodness it didn't, eh?
the ending
AAAAAAAAAAAA
okay, okay, let's start from when hooty freaks out for a third time, after the tunnel of love.
i thought it was funny how hooty ripped himself out of the door in order to run (?) away. at least we didn't have to hear all the sounds this time.
wait, "things always get weird when hooty's upset"? has this kind of thing happened before?
gosh, the part where king's voice powers saved luz and amity was so cool. i saw somewhere that the animator wanted to reflect the lesbian and bi flags and they did a great job.
eda encouraging luz to ask amity out was so cute. we stan a supportive mom, always.
and then comes the scene everyone's been talking about. oh my gosh, this was done so beautifully! it was equally awkward and cute, the way it should have been, and the fact that they both asked each other was perfect!
LOOK AT HOW HAPPY AMITY IS WHEN SHE SAYS YES!!! this is the happiest we have ever seen her, and it's adorable.
Tumblr media
something i really love about this scene is the fact that they didn't say "i love you" or even kiss, like what seems to happen in a lot of confession scenes. they just held hands. it was probably one of the most realistic confession scenes i've ever seen. it kind of reminded me of when my gf and i got together.
oh yeah, that's right! they're officially together!!!!!!! FINALLY!!! i was not expecting anything that happened in this episode, but out of everything this one was the most surprising. holy SHIT! we have a canonically sapphic couple! in a disney cartoon! a disney cartoon!
honestly, i hope everyone has gained more respect for hooty after this. they've helped further the plot more in one episode than anyone else has done throughout the rest of the show.
we got to see king's dad properly for the first time! i don't think we'll see him in "eclipse lake", but maybe we will in the episode after that? i hope so.
everyone's freaking out about hooty eating the letter but... can't they just... throw it back up? like they did at the beginning of "really small problems"?
predictions
to my knowledge, the next episode is going to be about amity looking for an ingredient for the new portal. i also know that eda, king, and hunter will be there too. i don't know what to expect, but i am very excited. until next time!

I just can't believe that there are people who still believe every single word a public figure/celebrity says, most of the time they LIE. Did C lie about some fans harassing his bf? I have no clue, but if someone was indeed harassing him, that is just not correct. There are crazy fans in every fandom. If people still believe every post or tweet is posted personally by the celebrity, they are just naive and gullible. I don't believe in CC, but that's just my opinion. I do believe D is closeted and just because he posts something or says something nice about someone doesn't mean he actually thinks that, it is most likely PR, just like the unnecessary refurbishment of RR's house. People should wake up and not believe everything they see on the internet. Side note: I couldn't even get mad at yesterday's show because everything is just so ridiculous and bad-acted that it's funny.
At this point, if you aren't side-eyeing basically everything that comes out of Hollywood, you are just willfully ignorant. Its all calculated to a specific end and they don't think twice about contradicting their past selves if it serves a current narrative. Case in point: C saying towards the end of glee that he had no idea who D was when he joined the show when there's a whole interview of him talking about seeing D in AVPM way back when. Like season 2 back when. That's just a blatantly obvious, easily disproved and stupid lie. With regards to this podcast mess - I haven't listened to it and I wasn't on tumblr for most of glee's run so I wasn't really privy to a lot of the goings on that happened bts. Can I believe that there were people who crossed the line of fandom and behaved like assholes? Yes, definitely because it still happens. That kind of behavior is not exclusive to the glee fandom. You will find people like that everywhere. Whether or not they did exactly what he said they did - only he knows that for sure. Its a weird thing to bring up now 6 years after the show has ended as it effectively (and unfairly) paints a bullseye on a specific group. I'm not sure what he was hoping to achieve with this. The CC people that I've interacted with here are lovely and would never in a million years even think of things that horrible. Keep your thoughts and opinions to your own little blog and you don't tag the person in your post - its as simple as that. Who are these nobodies who have that much power that they think they can get a complete stranger fired? If they did indeed behave this way, then that is appalling, completely batshit crazy, and unacceptable - they need professional help. Its not funny, its scary. There's no need for that ever. At the end of the day, its his life and what he does with it and who he spends it with is his business. There's a pretty simple solution if you don't like the person anymore or don't like what they are doing: you can simply stop following them. You don't need to engage in some sort of bizarre smear campaign that has real world implications. Remember all those toxic twitter teens who were ready to draw and quarter D a few months back over that nearly 10 year old pic of him or a comment just as old? The awful things they said about him, the nonstop tagging of him and the flooding of every one of his SM posts with their bullshit? The "you're dead to me if you choose to remain a fan of his" ultimatums? I do! That's the kind of stuff that drives celebs away from SM and ruins it for the rest of us that know how to behave. You're creating an issue where there wasn't one and that's sort of what C did here with his comments.
From my point of view, the issue with C and D's SOs isn't so much that they are with other people, but more to the kind of people they seem to be. I don't know much frankly about W. He's not shoved in my face 24 hours a day and a hovering annoying presence at everything C does. You'll find more pics of C solo or with AF than you will with W. That's why he bothers me less and why D takes more criticism on this. But from what I've heard about him, he's said and posted some pretty awful things in the past and if people choose to not like him because of that, that seems valid to me. As fans, we can only judge celebs by what they say and do and our perception of them - its all we have. My dislike of M is not because she's with D and I'm a super jealous old spinster. And its not because I'm a self hating misogynist. Its because of the way she clings to D and his career while doing nothing on her own, the way she uses him for her own selfish purposes, and the hypocritical way she claimed to not to want to be in the public eye but yet shadows D at every event he goes to because it means cameras and photos and recognition as his wife. That tacky awful commercialized wedding was the last straw for me because I haven't been able to hold my tongue since. And if you follow someone long enough, you can get a pretty good idea of when they're being genuine and when they're bullshitting you or in D's case, when its him posting something and when its a member of his team. For example: where he supposedly proposed. By lying about it - either then or now - you've created a mess that didn't previously exist. Its a fairly simple straightforward statement that most people get right the first time: where they asked their SO to marry them. D says Japan, RR says D called him saying he wanted to do it when he was outside a bathroom in Miami. So the answer is either a) D b) RR c) none of the above. I'm going to go with c, thanks. Unless RR is going to come back and say that D decided to ask her in Miami but then waited until they were physically in Japan to do the asking, I'm going to go with neither of you are right and the reason D blew off the question every time he was asked about it by saying he didn't want to bore us is that you hadn't come up with a good enough and believable story yet. Much like the engagement ring that hadn't been locked down until RR could find a designer willing to make a ring with a diamond big enough to soothe her ego and give off the pretense of being legit. He probably put more effort into that than anything in D's career in the last 5 years. Do I think that RR did help D at one point when he was starting out with gigs, jobs, things like that? Sure. No problem. And maybe they were friends and liked to hang out and jam together. But do I also think that D has outgrown him personally and professionally at this point? Hell fucking yes. He needs a grown up to take his career to the next level and RR is not that person. He completely failed to capitalize on all the awards and well deserved hype D got from ACS and for that alone, he should have been fired. He needs someone who wants to do the work because they understand the rare find they have in D and that their job is to promote him, not themselves. The IOU ep was nothing but a self serving hour of D trying to make RR look and sound like he's not a complete waste of space on top of getting a cut of his fee as his manager. If you look at D's page on the very sad H/yphenate website, you will see the 3 biggest roles D's had are not listed. No Blaine. No Hedwig. No ACS. But oddly enough, a mention of his record deal with Columbia, which I thought went kaput ages ago and his hosting of the Teen Choice Awards in 2013. You know - the big times. Why? I'm going to assume its because he got those roles without RR's help so he doesn't want them there and what does that tell you? It should tell you everything. This is why your manager should be your manager and your friends should be your friends. Its like a parent who wants to be their
child's friend instead of the authority figure they need.
Too much of D's SM has the look and feel of pr and useless ads and just flat out nonsense and that falls squarely under RR's domain. He's a 34 year old man with an established career, not a 21 year old newbie just starting out but his SM doesn't reflect that in any way, shape, or form. The sooner D can cut his losses and break free, the better off his career will be, the more adult he will sound, and the happier I will be.

Turning Red and Takes Online
So I have already made a post about this movie but there was another thing I wanted to talk about but I wasn't sure how to word it or if I even wanted to talk about it being worried I would be deemed certain things but after thinking about it I just need to talk about this.
A while ago someone on twitter (of course that shit app) called the movie "unapologetically horny" which is the WORST way to describe this movie. Whether the person couldn't come up with any words or not people took that one stupid comment and turned it into this big thing.
Tumblr media
I got suggested this YouTube video that talked about this incident but I was far more curious about the comments since I was hoping to find people who thought this persons tweet was disgusting and ridiculous and I did but i also came across another group of people that were making the possible premise of this movie into a big deal that being about periods. Keep in mind that the movie isn't even out yet and although it is clearly talking about hormones and regular teen topics we don't know if this movie will have the period talk.
And well apparently to some people online characters having their periods in movies are sexualizing minors. Yeah. Now you see why I didn't know if I wanted to talk about this.
I don't know how people dont know this but ummm, periods aren't sexual? They are a natural thing and yes girls get them and if you think that periods are sexual than I guess we better get rid of pad/tampon commercials because "ooo spooky its sExUal" lol! It's not sexual. And it's not bad to have a movie that talks about these things either and I think it is good representation for young girls and of course no one is forced to watch the film but I find it gross how adults are sexualizing something girls and women have.
I find it odd how these people are the ones saying the movie and Pixar are sexualizing minors but they are the ones bringing up how periods are sexual when again it's not. Now I am not saying there aren't people in Hollywood that aren't creeps because there are and we all know that but I feel like this film isn't sexual at all and is trying to relate to women and young girls and I think people comparing this movie to Cuties or anything of the sort is stretching it too far.
And this whole "ew periods are sexual" feels kind of misogynistic and its shaming girls for having something that's natural. And yeah this movie isn't gonna be for everyone and that's okay because not every movie has to target a certain demographic like for me I personally am not super into movies that are targeted to boys and men. That doesn't mean the movie is bad or anything, I am just not the target demographic.
I know that movies and shows targetted for girls can be bad just like media targeting males but sometimes I feel like it gets too much hate because it doesn't target the male demographic and its girly. Fun fact: did you know that Tangled was originally going to be called Rapunzel but changed it so it was more gender neutral so boys would go and watch it?
And now a movie that might talk about female subjects and more female oriented is getting unwarranted hate. Again it just sounds misogynistic. And what sucks is that I know these comments are gonna get a lot of love because these people will hide their misogyny underneath the idea of caring about kids and young girls even though what they are doing is repressing and shaming young girls for a thing they cannot control.
I am also tired of people screaming that this film is "too woke" and "too sjw" even though it's a film about a young girl going through things a young girl goes through and again it sounds misogynistic.
I feel like people have been seeing so much bad representation in movies and shows to where now they will see something with good representation or possible good representation and will just discard it and throw it in the trash because they assume that any show or movie with representation will be bad. I actually saw this with Encanto where someone complained it was forcing representation even though it wasn't and all of the characters were written well.
I really hope that when this film comes out people might see it differently and change their minds, I really feel like the hate and some of the criticism towards this film is unwarranted and I think it deserves a chance before people judge it. I also really wanted to call out the misogyny I was seeing around this movie as well. As a woman who enjoys female media I feel like it gets unfair treatment at times because it's not always as deep as male media but I think it's pretty good and can be empowering and I think that is something that is very important and shouldn't be overlooked. Anyways thank you for reading and I will see you next time! ❤︎
