hc dump (mostly botw)
some of these are imagine your otp things i found on tumblr btw!! or inspired by them at least! not all ideas here are entirely mine... but mostly they are originals ^^ feel free to be inspired by these :>
most of the ones that refer to zelda and Link as they/thems are from imagine your otp prompts!
help Zelda subtly flirting and Link taking a moment to realize she's flirting and then just being like 'ᵒʰ'
post calamity Link is blunt and honest about being in love with zelda and she gets so flustered about it
wheras pre-calamity link is flustered and shy about anything LIKE flirting
Headcannon that Link got the master sword and almost immediately named it Fi (he never told anyone though.) he just sort of felt that that was what it was meant to be called. Like how i hc he knows Saria's song but not how he knows it or where it came from.
mxmtoon’s ‘Better than u’ is If revali was a song
revali is gay for link you cant convince me otherwise
link is oblivious to this fact though (really only urbosa notices lmao)
hc  that Zelda bought a kalimba once bc she thought it was cool & it looked pretty and Link thought it was really neat so he tried to play it & he played saria's song on it pErfectly and he has no idea how (but sarias song is weird and at this point he just sort of accepts it) and he teaches himself Zelda's Lullaby bc he knows its important to her somehow & she wakes up while he’s playing once & shes so touched and every now and then when shes feeling down he'll play the kalimba for her.
and when she cant sleep he always plays zelda's lullaby and it always helps
o v e r p r o t e c t i v e   Link because he has anxiety... Link with ptsd... Skyward Sword Link having extreme self esteem issues after the whole thing with Impa... Link but he has ISSUES
but seriously im obSESSED with Skyward sword link having major self esteem issues after the whole thing w/ impa
and then after the events of the game Zelda helps him get over it!!!!!!!
ok hc that they each remember every single (accidental or purposeful) time they flirted w eachother if it was accidental they usuall y realize it between like a minute and a week later but they p much always realize it also they really hope that the other doesnt remember bc that would be EMBARRASING and (getting into possible au territory here bc i STILL DONT KNOW IF THEY HAD TIME TO CATCH U P POST CALAMITY >:( STILL ANGERY ABUOT THAT LIKW WHEN IS BOTW 2 GONA COEM OUT ND HAND ME THE TASTY LORE) post-calam link talks abt p much ALL of those moments when he tells zelda what he remembers and shes like 'wtf he remembres that  skndnvbdvtlghtfw'
like when they call the other cute or hot or say sometging sappy
omg he also tells Zelda abt how Urbosa kept teasing him abt her and shes like 'LMAO THATS WHY YOU TOLD ME TO MAKE HER STOP GIVING U DARES' (bc urbosa always dared him to kiss zelda or tell her he loved her or something stupid likr that bc urbosa 10000% shipped them so like shut up im 109% right)
i love Zelda and Urbosa's relationship so much... Urbosa is likr a very cool aunt but also a mother figure but also a best friend to Zelda and her callig Zelda little bird bc thats what zelds' mother called her before she died...when i think about it sassy muscle woman is so sad she probably tells Zelda about her mother bc Urbosa and Zelda's mom were like. besties or whatever before Zelds' mom died also the cutscene where Urbosa is sitting with Zelda and Zelda is fallen asleep and Urbosa tells link to make sure she stays safe... muscle woman makes me feel sad
but also shes sassy and funny!!! immediately after the heartfelt moment where she told link to take care of zelda or whatever she said i dont remember exactly, she wakes zelda up by making thunder in the distance and then laughs at Zelda lmfao
ALSO SHES SEEN LINK GIRLBOSSING IN THE GERUDO WOMAN OUTFIT LMFAO
You know she told him he was slaying in that outfit
 you KNOW IT
Zelda canonically never saw him in it but i want to know what her reaction would be shed probably like laugh and tell him he looked cute and then hed be all embarrassed like o///o but also inside hed be so happy like OMG OMG OMG SHE THINKS IM CUTE dOES SHE REALLY MEAN iT
Link is able to play Sarias song on any instrument even if he doesnt know how to play the instrument at all. just instinctually
like he'll play sarias song perfectly anf then not be able to make a decent note come out lmao
but he taught himself how to play the kalimba because. he likes it
OK SO they're in a carraige anf some Yiga attacked it anf while he was fighting they hurt him and almos t got to Zelda so he shook as all hell (and also ADRENALIN E RUSH his body doesnt realize theyre safe and done fighting yet. probably bc he doesnt quite beleive that lmao-) and he just needs some chill. ᴮᵘᵗ ʰᵉ ᵖʳᵒᵖᵃᵇˡʸ ⁿᵉᵉᵈˢ ˢᵒᵐᵉ ˢˡᵉᵉᵖ So Zelda's sitting next to him anf after a few minutes of watching him sort of freakinf out and beig all jittery and fidgety (also he keeps touching the master sword bc. i hvae a hc that it comforts him. Fi sword Fi sword) Zelds just reaches over and pulls him closer to her and puts her hands over his ears anf tells him to chill out like "hey. you're alright. we're both ok. you need to calm down... and maybe take a nap." anf he starts breathinf more slowly and he stops fidgeting anf eventualy he closes his eyes and he falls asleep anf leans his head on Zelds' shoulder He wakes up when they get near the castle but he doesnt sit up until just before the (whatever u call the dude that opens the door for important ppl) opens the door. Anf he doesnt tell her btu hes really grateful for her helpinf him calm down bc the few times before whne he got like that (whne he was younger, before he became tge appointed knight) hed just had to wait for it to go away
childhood trauma go brrr
ok so Post-calam link is telling zelda abt dreams he remembers (from pre-calam) and hes like 'im pretty sure i dreamed we were gonna get married, and then i woke myself up because i didnt think you could ever want to.' and shes like '..why wouldnt i?' and he just shrugs anf moves closer to her and leans his head on her shoulder
lmfao precalam link would have been an absolute blushinf MESS if shed said shit like that back then
first time they were riding in a carraige together, Link sat between Zelda and Urbosa instead of between Zelda and King Rhoam or standing on the other side of the carraige, and Urbosa assumed it was because he didnt trust her (which she was not pleased about bc shes very close to zelda anf always has been and shes probably one of the people you could trust the MOST) but after a while she notices that he's actually just uncomfortable with the King. But still wants to be with Zelda. Urbosa definitely feels better abt it after that bc. he trusts her more than the actual king of hyrule
Ganon giving Link horrifying and super exadgerated nightmares about him (Ganon) dying in horrifying ways because when he died is a good song and i like lemon demon. also maybe about alt timeline links dying?
also?? 'when he died an endless age of untold nightmares would be nigh, and the blood would make the seas run red.' sounds suspiciously like what Demise said when SSLink killed him... also the bit abt the drawing of the clown with the date on the back could be a drawing by young Link (oot)
Link knows morse code and occasionally says things by tapping the wall or floor or a table. he's usually saying things to zelda although she doesnt know morse code (which he is well aware of) and thinks hes just fidgeting. He usually says stuff like 'i love you' or 'you look pretty' because he's too shy to say them aloud.
Urbosa taught herself morse code (about a month or so before the calamity) because she realized that that's what he was doing and when she figured out what he was doing she was like 'awwwwwwwwww!!!!!!' and she didn't tell anyone (including him) that she knew what he was saying.
post-calamity, he's probably retained this habit although he usually does it without thinking and when he notices that he's doing it he'll just say whatever it was out loud. Eventually he'd tell Zelda about it and try to teach her morse code so that whenever he starts doing it she knows what he's saying
 also whenever someone else is tapping the table or kicking or something he just hears it as 'E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E E' or random letters which sometimes annoys him and sometimes he thinks its hilarious
by the way i had this headcannon that without his memories fully intact Link acts different and talks more and i much more confident and comfortable and i found out IT’S ACTUALLY CANNON. MY HEADCANNON IS CANONICAL HELP-- and there is no way i could have seen that information before and just forgotten that i’d seen it because the only place i’ve ever heard about it is in one loz video that quoted something in an official book which i have never read any of the contents of (I WANNA BUY IT SO BAD THO)
ok i was just thinking and the first thought Link had when he woke in the shrine of resurection was probably just 'what' or something along the lines of it. i mean. how would YOU react if a weird disembodied voice woke you from a nice sleep?
his last thought as he passed out before he was taken there can go one of 2 directions. 'well, fuck' or 'i failed'
i dont like the second one
ok revali hc: Link makes a mug of warm milk and leaves it on the counter and when he comes back after like an hour its empty and hes like >> 'w e r i d' and the next night he decides to make another one anf leave it on purpose this time anf its empty again and the third night he watches from the doorway and it was revali drinking the milk and now every time revali is at the castle Link (at the same time every night) makes him a mug of milk and leaves it out for birdman because he is a good person. OH And when Link gets hurt while Revali is at the castle, Revali goes for his mug of milk anf its not there and he realizes it was Link making it and he gets a little bit gayer inside.
Ravioli is such a dick smh Link stop beinf nice to him
Link just laying on Zelda's floor staring at her and when she decides to stare back, after like 10 seconds he just sticks his hands out in her direction like '..i can haz hug' And this is completely normal anf she just goes over and pulls him up and drags him over and sits down at her desk again with Link just sitting next to her chair w his head on her leg or something anf she rubs his head while she works. like 80% of the reason he does it is bc hes too tired/lazy to get up but he still wants affection and the rest of the reason is a mix between 'i dont want to force my company on her if she doesnt want me there' and 'will she still do that thing if i do this'
Zelda says 'You're very tiresome, you know..' And Link just makes a confused face and says under his breath '...im not tired' and Zelda bursts out laughing- /srs this isnt joking like a lot of my ‘headcannons’ are this is a legitimate headcannon
CHILD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Link!! and child Mipha! litle tiny fish girl zoomin around pretending to be an ambulance (i know there arent any ambulances but fuck you maybe theres carraiges with sirens) she notices he’s hurt and runs over anf fixes his scratch or his bruise or whatever w/ her magic and then she s just like 'wee woo wee woo' and runs around the kingdom some more looking for anyone else hurt (but keeping an eye on Link and mostly staying nearby him)
i love child link and mipha,,,
(zelink is still better tho sorry fishwife)
zelda calling link goblin/gremlin as like an affectionate little nickname
hekp zelda stroking the back of links hand anf its kinda numb so its that weirdly pleasant soft and knid of tickly feeling and hes just like O//--//O
slightly weird one imo but i absolutely *love it* anyways so fuck you
ok but link stretching like a cat and zelda being so amused by it. i love this
  Imagine Zelds buying some mistletoe, hanging it up in their house, and then trying with increasingly less subtlety as time goes on to get Link underneath it so they can steal a kiss, while Link remains blissfully oblivious, and somehow manages to miss all of Zelds’s hints.
 would be later in their relationship obvi
Link has gone through some form of major trauma and abuse while Zelda wasn’t able to help. Months after Link is safe again, they continue to have nightmares and flashbacks to the event and find it hard to trust people anymore. Zelds is heartbroken but slowly helps Link learn to love again and be themself.
LITERALY THIS ONE IS SKYWARD SWORD LINK THOUGH???????????????
my hc about him having awful self esteem :0
After a long day, Link sleepily crawls into bed with Zelda, who is absorbed in a book. Link lays their head on Zelda’s shoulder, and occasionally reads a page of Zelds’ book while lapsing into a deep sleep. Once Zelds finds out Link is asleep, they gently lay Link down, cover them, and turn out the light.
Zelds sitting cross-legged on the couch with a pile of bows and hair ties in their lap, messing with Link’s hair, while Link is sitting on the floor, laughing at Zelds’s antics.
Link is in a bad mood and is mumbling a list of things they don’t like about themself under their breath. Zelds notices and chimes in with a way longer list of things they like/love about Link.
ok so i added more to this and also did it once with each of them because it’s just?? good
ok so first one hed be like whispering to himself and curled up or something by himself and Zelda finds him and hears what hes saying and softly starts listing the good things about him and she hugs him and then i cry because AAAAAAAAAAAAA /pos
Zelda is in a bad mood and is mumbling a list of things they don’t like about themself under their breath. Link notices and chimes in with a way longer list of things they like/love about Zelds.
second one, Zelda is working feverishly and whispering problems and she just sort of spirals into problems and things she doesnt like about herSELF and how her powers arent working and whats gonna happen if she cant pull herself together and figure out whats wrong and Link is there but she sort of forgets and the first thing he says is related to whatever she's just said (saying its wrong) and then shes like 'wait hes here i forgot  and he slowly starts listing other things and eventually hes just quickly and steadily listing things he likes about her and after like 3 or 4 minutes she just pulls him up into a hug and he cuts off like '!!!' but when hes stops being startled he just relaxes and enjoys the hug and he doesnt realize but Zelds........REALLY needed that. like. he knows she needed it but she REALLY needed that she was losing it
child link & mipha one!!!! Link has scars on their back/shoulders/arms (prob from fighting, being clumsy, animals, random stuff) One day Link has their back exposed, and Mipha gives their shoulder a kiss. When Link asks what Mipha is doing, Mipha replies “no one has ever kissed them better before, so I’m doing it now.”
the children </3
but zelink is better sorry mipha
Zelda is up late at night, trying to figure something out or studying, when Link comes up from behind them with a cup of tea, gives them a hug, and tells them good night.
i'm! sobbing!
Zelda learns a bit of kalimba music offers to teach Link how to play, unaware that Link is already a fairly talented kalimba player himself. Link accepts so he has an excuse to spend time with Zelds but gets discovered one day when Zelda wakes up to him playing Saria's song and then Zelda's lullaby
 SO BASICALLY MY HC BUT LIKE WITH MORE SETUP
also it was piano in the prompt thing but i edited it bc it was too perfect
Link wakes up in the middle of the night, shaking, breathing heavily, maybe even crying. Zelds wakes up as well, immediately knows what is happening and starts cuddling Link.
Link just chilling out or pouting or something likr that and just sitting somewhere, and Zelda coming along and seeing him and just randomly deciding to give him a hug and he's surprised (hes usually the one bothering her for attention or hugging her randomly) but ofc he enjoys it and when she lets go hes like 'what did i miss?' and she just chuckles and says 'nothing.' and he gives her a second shorter hug and decides to go take a nap.
the nap has no significance to the hc he just takes naps a lot
OMG Link has a little mini garden thing in a clearing in some woods near the castle with like 4 plants that he just found next to eachother and one that he moved (just random little wildflowers) and he takes care of them for at least like 15 minutes every day (unless something important is happening) and Zelda notices him leaving to go take care of them one day and shes like 'wher e is he goinf' because he hasnt told anyone and she sees him gardening and just sits down (he has his back to her anf hes not paying attention bc hes focused on the flowers) anf he turns around anf goes  and shes like 'ᵗʰᵉʸ'ʳᵉ ᵛᵉʳʸ ᵇᵉᵃᵘᵗᶦᶠᵘˡ' and Link just goes
'...ᵗʰᵃⁿᵏˢ'
and he finishes gardening and they walk home together
BONUS, next time Link gets badly hurt or sick she's getting ready to leave and links like 'where are you going?' and shes like 'im gonna go check on your garden' and hes like 'oh make sure you dont water joans too much' and shes like 'what????' and he goes 'oh thats the orange and blue one' and then he starts telling her about all his plants and their names and internally shes like 'omg this is so cute' and she listens to him talk for like 40 minutes about his plants (he probably has like 7 or something by then) and then he gets tired and shes like 'go to sleep little goblin' and he does and she does her best to take care of the plants how he does. They dont die or anything they end up being ok that time and every time that he gets confined to bed (or stays in her room resting which is much more common) for more than 2 days she'll go check on his garden and water it.
also the extra stuff is longer than the actual hc. what
Zelda is having a really tough/exhausting/just generally bad day. Link can tell just by looking at them, so when Zelds is busy with their work/activity, Link runs and gets Zelds nice smelling things like flowers and stuff, a blanket, and a mug of milk (he doesnt know how to make anything else lmao). Link shows up like “I know you’ve had a bad day and it’s part of my job to make sure you’re okay” and Zelds just sorta stands there like “how did I get so lucky.”
and probably gives him a hug
Link and Zelda go to a bookstore and Link has *no* interest in books and stuff but he pretends he cares and tries to show interest. He's mostly just really happy to see Zelds enjoying herself.
i’m probably gonna do a second one of these with writing prompts and stuff!! i have 2 channels in my discord server for headcannons and writing prompts and stuff but i get carried away with my headcannons a lot and end up making them super long so some of these probably belong in the prompts/writing one instead... (looking at ths gardening one specifically lmao) but!! im lazy! :D hope you liked reading this, and hopefully the misspelling isnt TOO bad lmao. ..................this is so long help

oh, you could go on and on about the height difference? please do. i want to hear more
*sigh* you guys are trying to make me embarrass myself aren't you?? well i embarrass myself all the time anyway, so please accept my giant masterlist of short king link headcanons
My personal estimates for their heights are 5'2 for link and 5'6 for zelda. In terms of relative height, this puts the top of link's head around level with zelda's ears, which is fairly accurate if you look at scenes in the game where they're standing side by side.
zelda's boots give her an extra inch, and her high heels give her an extra three. (technically the in-game models for all her outfits are the same height, so there's no evidence that she wears heels with her royal dress, but.... for personal reasons, I'm gonna say she does.)
i think i've mentioned my headcanon that link started crushing on zelda the instant he became her knight. he found her very awe-inspiring and also very intimidating, and the fact that he had to look up to meet her eyes definitely did not help
pre-calamity link is actually a little insecure about his small stature and feminine appearance, because the hylian military wasn't really the most accepting place and a lot of fellow knights gave him hell for not being manly enough. 100 years later, link wakes up in the shrine with no memory of what gender even is, and from then on he's genuinely comfortable with his height.
pre-calamity, the only person who link doesn't mind teasing him about his height is—you guessed it—zelda. (and also daruk, but all hylians are tiny to daruk, so it doesn't really feel personal.) link actually loves it when zelda teases him a little, just because it's a sign of their shared trust and he likes to see her drop that formal veneer that she's always keeping up.
yes, zelda likes to tease, but she also truly loves link's height and finds it extremely attractive. she makes sure to give him a lot of genuine encouragement because she knows he's a little self conscious about it.
being the snarky little dude he is (post-calamity), link teases zelda a lot too. even though zelda is pretty average height for a hylian woman, link pretends she's like. the tallest person ever. like "zelda oh my gosh you're fucking gigantic how am i supposed to share a bed with you." he thinks it's hilarious and zelda only pretends to hate it
post-calamity, someone will call link a "twig" or "runty" (both actual lines from in-game i believe) and link will just be like ~hell yes i'm fabulous~
zelda tries to hide things (food, bombs, etc) from link by putting them on high shelves. however... she forgets how good link is at climbing things
yes, link does have to get on his tiptoes a bit when he wants to give zelda a kiss
ALTERNATIVELY sometimes he just fucking grabs zelda's face and pulls her down to his level instead (it always makes her very flustered and they both love it)
link has made dozens of puns about how short he is. sadly i can't think of any on the spot
link and zelda share a lot of their clothes post-calamity! zelda borrows link's pants and cuffs them so they look fashionably short (many thanks to @yourenotacat and your wonderful fic for giving me this idea) and zelda's tunics are adorably oversized on link :') while we're on the topic of sharing clothes—yes, link does wear zelda's dresses too.
i'm so soft for the concept of zelda hugging link from behind and resting her chin on the top of his head. or using him as an arm rest. or link sitting on zelda's lap. give me all that mushy stuff
cuteness aside, link's small size has practical advantages as well. a low center of gravity is helpful for doing backflips!
post-shrine of resurrection, link grows... about one inch. zelda is all like "aww look how you've grown!!!! you're still tiny though lol"
thanks for the ask! hope you enjoyed these!

Akira’s POV
I heard that after the hero defeated the calamity, he went rogue. I also heard he went and left Hateno to go to the faron province to worship the Zonai? My job after awakening from my 118 years of slumber is to bring him back. WOW, I’m Zelda’s older sister, why am I having to prove I am “good enough”. They didn’t even give me new clothes.
I rode my black steed Hocus. Well the descendant of him. God it’s hot. I wipe sweat off my forehead. We crossed a bridge, I slowed him down. I hear rustling. Suddenly feeling a pain and a jolt, I feel my body hit the dirt ground. I open my eyes while gasping for breath, I see sharp blue eyes pierce through mine. My breath hitched in my throat.
Link. It’s the hero of legend. The blonde pulled me up by my hair. “Ow, ow ow, that hurts!” I cried as he grabbed the reins of my horse and he made me get up off the ground. He pushed me in front of him and told me with a raspy breath, “move.”
I start to walk and I ask, “where are we going?” Silence. He said nothing. We go through a gate to a cave. He pushed me to the ground and my hands were cut open from the rugged ground. I hiss from the pain.
His sharp voice asked where I came from. “Did you come from the Castle?” He spit. “y-yes..I’m the first daughter of the Hylian royal family..Akira..” “They don’t have another daughter, the only one is Zelda.” He snarled. God he is horrifying.
“I am the first daughter. I am 118 years old and I will not be treated this way by you.” I snarled back as I got off the ground. My grey royal dress was tattered. “I just woke up from the coma, and the first thing I had to do was come get you.” I sighed. He looked at me like I had two heads.
He glared at me with intense daggers. “I’m not here to take you back, I know just how bad the hylians are.” I patted my legs off and looked up at him.  He stayed silent. “Even though I was born an abomination, I actually have full sheikah blood.” I unzipped my dress a little from the back. I showed him the thick black tattoo that was on my shoulders. It was the Sheikah eye.
He reached out and skimmed the tattoo with his finger tips. “I see..” Link straightened up and nodded. “I understand, so you won’t try to make me go back?” I nodded slightly. Then he looked guilty. “Sorry for pulling your hair and pushing you on the ground..” He looked embarrassed. “It’s okay I would have done something similar if someone tried to make me leave” I laugh.
1
Link then told me to follow him. Hesitantly, I follow him down into the dark cave. The blonde led me to a large room with potions, water and all sorts of survival things. He tells me to sit down while he rummages through some jars. I sit down carefully and wince at my hands.
He then sat down beside me. “Give me your hands.” He demanded and I gave him them. He opened a jar with pink cream looking stuff. “It’s an elixir, but I tweaked it to be a cream.” The boy looked intently down at my red smeared palms. He skimmed over them, remembering every cut he created.
I sucked in my breath when he applied the pink stuff. The scent of petals invaded my nostrils. The cream was chilly and so I winced. Seeing my reaction, he softly blows on the cuts. He thought it was hurting. Why did…
I blushed awkwardly. He finished applying the petal scented stuff. “...what is this stuff made of?” Sharply he said, “Fairy Tonic, I had put fairies in a cook pot and made the perfect elixir out of it.” I sweatdrop. The blonde looked up and laughed at my reaction. “It’s true though” He commented.
 I watch the cuts disappear and look up with a beaming smile. “Thanks for healing me,” he smiles back. “No problem” he says shortly. Then he waited a moment before talking again. “You’re not so bad, Akira.” “You’re not as bad as I originally thought either” I laugh while I trace over my palm. He looked away. “I’m glad you’re not a snotty princess that tells me what to do when all i’m doing is protecting you” He laughs, then went silent.
“Are you okay?” I ask while putting my hand on his shoulder. “Yeah I’m fine, thanks.” He sharply replies. His sapphire eyes dart down to the ground. I feel extremely awkward. He takes his skull helmet off and sits it on the ground beside him. Then he raked his hand through his hair. His hair was so long.
I then scoot closer. “Can I braid your hair?” I ask weary. He nods and I stand up, moving behind him. I softly raked my hands through his blonde hair. I assumed his hair would be at least a little dirty, but his hair is clean and a pretty golden color. I slowly braid his long soft hair and as soon as I finish the braid, I ask for a piece of lace. He hands me a lace piece and I tie it around his hair.
2
He looked up at me and I smiled. “I’m done, it looks really good!” He then hands me a...Sheikah slate… “take a picture so i can see” He responds. I nod, then ask where the picture thing was. He turned and pointed at this icon. I nod.
I opened the icon and it made a noise that startled me. I zoomed onto his hair and took a clear realistic picture of his braid. “Here Link!” I give it to him, and he intently looks at the picture. “Good job Akira, it’s perfect” He looked up at me and beamed with his toothy grin.
I blush at his cute face. I then  look down at myself subconsciously. I am a literal hot mess. He looks down at what I'm looking at. “What?” He asks curiously. “Sorry, i just noticed how much of a mess I am” I laugh nervously. He nods slowly. “Here” He stands up quickly. He digs through a bag and pulls out an outfit that is a little revealing.
He pulled me up and handed me the outfit. “There’s a spring farther back into the cave, you can bathe there” He smiles. “Well, Is there a soap I can use?” I inquired. He nodded and said it was already there. “I can show you there if you want” He shrugged. I say that would be perfect. He took my hand and led me to the spring. It was dim, and the water was a beautiful shade of blue. It was glowing like foxfire mushrooms.
“Thank you Link, you can go now..” I say. He lets go of my hand and walks back the other direction. “See you when you’re done, Akira” He waved. I waited until he’s completely gone and took my tattered clothes off. I walked into the spring and it was warm. The soap was on the edge of the pool.
I wash up and soak for a while. As soon as I was done, I rinsed myself and dried off. Tip toeing over the clothes, I pick them up. No wonder they looked revealing, They were also Barbarian clothes. I put them on and they were a perfect fit.
I put on the shoes and picked up my clothes that were 101 YEARS OLD. I walked out of the spring room and saw Link picking up stuff around the cave. I call and he looks up. He sets a bunch of random stuff in the corner. “It suits you very well,” He commented. His face seemed more pink than normal.
“Well, uh I can braid your hair too” He said as he grabbed a wooden comb from the pile. I nodded. Link sat me down on clothes and sat behind me. The boy gently combed my hair straight and he fishtailed my hair. “How can you do that, Link?” I asked curiously. “My mother taught me before the calamity” He responded.
3
He took a picture of it as well and showed me. “It looks so much better than my braid..” I say flabbergasted. He chuckles. Then he looked rigged. “What's w-” “Do you want paint on too?” He interrupted me looking interested. “I guess, what colors do you have?” I ask looking back at him. “Any color you’d like” He replied.
“I would like a purple color, kinda like yours” She said as she looked at his markings. “I see” He said as he stood up AGAIN and said while blending paint, “i think a more vibrant purple color will suit your skin tone” He mixed some blue, red with already existing purple making it more purple.
He walked over with a jar full of paint. “First I'll go from your face, down ok?” he asked while he dipped his fingers into the jar. “Okay” I say while feeling butterflies in my stomach. He stares intently at my cheeks as he presses his cold painted finger on parts of my face. “As soon as I’m done, I'll show you on the reflecting glass” I nod, as his hands trail from my chin to my neck.
He made three dots on my shoulders and re-dipped his finger into the jar.  He drew some lines and circles on my arms and a small triangle on the top of my wrist. Then he repeated onto the other arm. Then he made a swirl on my stomach just above my belly button. I blush at the touch. “Turn around” He said while making more purple lines on my body.
I turn around and he makes a nice hum sound. “Your actual tattoo is so detailed, is it like a birthmark or..” I nod. “Yeah it’s a birthmark, everyone thought it was so weird it was there when I was born, since I was apparently 100% Hylian” I giggle.
Link then makes some more symbols on my back, but I don't know what they are. “Stand up and turn around again” I do as he says and he puts paint on my thighs. They were lines and circles.
“I think you’re done, Akira” He says as he wipes his stained hand on a cloth on the ground. “Okay, can I see?” I asked curiously. “Yeah follow me” He said. I followed him like a lost puppy until We were in front of a reflection. We looked like we were fixing to burn down a village. “Here I forgot something” He disappeared and appeared again a few minutes later with a helm.
It was a cat skull with red braids and tribal ornaments. “It’s lovely,” I say as he puts it on my head. “It suits you very well, Akira” He smiles at me through the reflection.
4
“Should we go find something to eat?” Link asked as he took my hand and dragged me outside. “Well I guess I'm hungry” I say as I look around. “What are you thinking, big guy?” I ask as I skim the jungle. “Birds, deer, squirrels..Anything” He said as he equipped himself with a bow and an axe. “What should I use?” I ask while I pet my horse.
“Here is a dagger and light weighted bow, it's ok if you break either of those though” He said as he handed me the weapons. “..okay, so what do I use on what?” I asked. It dawned on him. “You don’t know how to use weapons huh?” I smiled. “Nope!” I said as I sheathed my dagger.
Link hopped on my horse and lended me hand to get up on there as well. I took his hand and sat in front of him. I had one hand on the rein and one of the saddle pommel. Link grabbed the opposite side of the rein, and his other hand rested on my hip. I went a little ridged. I tapped Hocus’s sides with my feet stirrup. “Okay we are going to an area that is peaceful, so we can ruin the lives of animals! HAH'' He laughed maniacally.
-TIME SKIP AFTER THE HUNTING SHENANIGANS-
I held all the bird eggs and Link lugged the deer bodies and bird bodies, onto Hocus, before letting him carry it back. “You are literally so weird Akira” Link laughed remembering what she did twenty mins later. “Sorry I threw a bird at you Link, I thought you were gonna shoot it” She giggled.
“You threw it in my face Akira!” he yelled, chuckling afterward. “Well how was I supposed to know my strength!” I yelled back laughing. Link and I walked beside Hocus. We walked to the cave, before Link grabbed the meat off of the horse before going into the cave. After gently setting down the raw meat, I pulled out a few carrots for Hocus. “Be right back!” I yelled.
I greet Hocus and pet him. He neighs with delight before searching me for food. I give him the carrot laughing.

First Lines Meme
Tagged by @nikkxb -- sorry it's taken me so long to get to this, lmao
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!)
See if there are any patterns.
Choose your favorite opening lines.
Then tag 10 authors!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just kinda went to my recents on my google docs, so this is gonna have a mix of stuff, some original stuff too. ye :3 but I'm starting with fics that I currently have posted online. All of them are the first paragraph of the update that's in progress
Favorites have bolded and italicized titles :3
1. Sobriety || KouKag
Kagome had three sessions of therapy so far and she wasn’t fully sure how to feel. She knew it was helping her, but she was left feeling so.... raw and open after every session that she felt like she was just back pedaling and it was hard to cope with. A part of her wanted to just stop altogether and go back to self medicating, but she knew that this was just part of the process. The first couple sessions were going to be hard because there was just so much to unpack, but her therapist was nice and calm and patient with her. She really had to thank Kouga again when she saw him later today.
2. 100 Arms, 100 Years || KouKag
This was the fifth day that an offering had been left in front of Kagome’s door for her. The fifth time she would receive the carcass of a large animal that she wouldn’t accept. The fifth time that Inuyasha found himself in front of her and Kikyō’s shared hut and bringing the carcass to the village for her. His fifth time taking the credit for a hunt he had no part in. He had to admit, this was quickly grating on his nerves. He hated the attention that he was getting from the villagers now. They praised him for shit that he didn’t do. That, and he didn’t want to be praised for anything. It was bad enough that he practically had the Sacred Jewel within his grasp and wasn’t able to use it to become a full-fledged youkai, but now he was being celebrated as a hero by some mere humans? Keh... they’re lucky I don’t tell them what this is all actually about. I bet they wouldn’t be so happy then. He sniffed and scratched at his nose. He talked a big game, but Inuyasha knew deep down that he would never do anything to hurt them. If he did that, that would in turn hurt Kikyō and he couldn’t do that to her.
3. Big God || KouKag
Kagome let out a frustrated huff as she shoved her phone into her pocket. She then plopped down onto the couch, tucking her legs up underneath her and curling into Kouga’s side. “That’s the fourth test we’ve ran, and we just... can’t figure out what the hell that stuff is... It’s so frustrating!” she grumbled.
4. You are the Moon || KouKag
Kagome took care of dinner that night, going out to pick up a few things she would need before returning home and cooking. Her mother tried to talk her out of it, but Kagome insisted, wanting to give her mother a break for the night and do something nice for the family. She missed them, and she wanted to make up for being gone for so long.
5. The Demon of Nabewari Yama || KouKag
Kagome let out a small huff as she looked up at the mountain she was heading towards. She had been traveling for several days, bordering a week now, looking for somewhere to settle. However, all the villages she had come across already had a miko or monk residing there, and if they didn’t, they didn’t want one. To be fair, there weren’t many villages she had come across between her hometown and here, and sure, maybe she should go further out after completing her training, but it was still just a little frustrating.
6. Seasons of Love || ZelGan
Zelda looked herself over in the mirror, and the corners of her lips pulled down into a small frown. Her hair was pulled up into an extravagant updo, several locks braided and pulled into the bun that rested on the back of her head. There were some flowers pinned in as well, all of them white in color. She would have preferred something with a pop of color, so they would stand out against her hair; but she figured that, in the end, everything had to match her dress.
7. Gerudotown || ZelGan -- Title may change for this, idk lmao
Ganondorf let out a grunt as he dismounted from his horse. The beast was large with a jet-black coat and a matching mane. He gave the steed a pat on his neck before handing the reins to a stable boy, holding back a chuckle from the look on the boy’s face. He was certain the child had never seen a beast so big, nor a Gerudo, based on how he was looking up at Ganondorf with wide, disbelieving eyes.
8. Shit, Let's be Pirates || DaveJade
Jade ran down the dirt path leading to a hidden beach. She had just gotten out of class and was eager to go down to the coves. She wanted to find some cool shells and snap a couple pictures for her biology class. She always went above and beyond in that class, but she just had a passion for marine life.
9. Changing Fate || ZelGan
“You can’t possibly be serious about this, father!” Zelda snapped indignantly. Her hands were balled into fists at her sides and her face was contorted in rage. King Rimoll let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose. They had been at this “conversation” for what felt like hours. He didn’t expect it to go this badly. Of course, he didn’t expect it to go well in the first place, but this was beyond what he anticipated.
10. Moon Bonds || KouKag
All Hallow’s Eve. A powerful night for witches and magick users alike. A night that better helped connect them to the spirits of the earth and those who had been lost. It was a night that Kagome looked forward to every year. The surge of magick that tingled under her skin and filled her very being... by the goddess it was an amazing feeling. And this year would be even more delightful and powerful.
11. Princess and the Pirate || Amuto
Growing up, Amu had been told many stories about pirates, everyone on her small island had. But Amu felt as if she had heard more than most. Her mother would tell her tales before bed about the pirates on a ship called the Emerald Line. Despite the name of the ship, its hull and sails were completely black. The only speck of color was the pirate flag it flew, which was emerald green and depicted a cat head with crossbones beneath. It was also known to be the fastest ship to sail the seas.
12. The Black Card || KouKag
Kagome paced around her room in her tiny apartment, struggling with picking out an outfit. It was her first day off in a while and she wanted to look cute, seeing as she wouldn’t be restricted by her, somewhat lenient (semi-strict?), dress code at the bookstore. However, she also wanted to be comfortable, so she was at a bit of an impasse. It wasn’t really as big a deal as she was making it out to be, but she was exhausted and she hoped that dressing nice would throw Sango off her trail. With a huff, she finally settled on a nice sundress she had stuffed in the back of her closet, one she rarely wore and almost forgot she had. It was light blue in color with a floral print.
13. Harvest Moon || KouKag
Kagome stretched as she woke up that morning. She opened her eyes and saw the torn-up ceiling and frowned to herself ever so slightly. She had moved into the country several days ago and had only recently started working on repairs that her home needed. It was a pretty large house, but the rent was extremely cheap. The only downside was she had to pay for the repairs, but in all honesty… she wasn’t too bothered by it. Apparently the house had been abandoned for years. No one was really sure how long... but Kagome could take a guess that it had been at least a decade with how worn down and dirty things were.
14. Memories || Original Fic - No Pairing
Lotus looked around at the scene before her. It would be an easy job, simple. She could do it in her sleep no problem. She scoffed and looked at the man beside her. “Really? You need me for this?” she asked. He turned to look at her, a scowl on his face.
15. Any Way the Wind Blows || ZelGan
Zelda woke up to the sun on her face. She grumbled and grunted, rolling over onto her side on her small mat. She opened her eyes and looked out ahead of her, at the grass and flowers swaying in the breeze. Her stomach gurgled and she placed a hand on it, a grimace on her lips. Food...
16. Found || KouKag
When Kouga had heard that there was a disturbance along one of their borders, he had been prepared for anything. He pulled together a team quickly, not taking all the strongest warriors, making sure to leave some behind to protect his pack. They ran off, ready to fight. Ready for anything. Anything except this.
17. Interlude IV (Showtime) || KouKag
O Signore, per amor del tuo nome, perdonami la mia iniquità... Perciocche ellà e grande Kagome sat there in the street, blood seeping through her clothes and soaking her knees. Tears continued to stream down her cheeks in a never ending flow. Her breath kept catching in the back of her throat as she tried to force down her sobs. Her hands were curled up into fists, pressed against the pavement, soaked in blood and in pain from being clenched so tightly and pressed so firm against the rough asphalt. Regret, despair, and guilt crushed her heart. They squeezed tight, holding onto her and keeping her trapped in the moment. A moment she’d rather drink away and forget, only for her guilty conscious to bring it back in her dreams at night, keeping her away from the blissfulness of sleep.
18. Bubblegum & Nicotine || Original Fic -- Astrid/Loki
Astrid opened the door to the apartment and latched her keys onto her belt loop. She then bent over to pick up the bags of groceries she had set on the ground to unlock the front door. Once she had crossed the threshold into the house, she raised up her right leg and kicked the door closed behind her. With a bit of a grunt, she hoisted the bags up a tad higher and made her way to the kitchen. She set them down on the counter with a thud and took a moment to catch her breath. She may be in good shape, but carrying several pounds of groceries up three flights of stairs because the elevator was out? That would wind anyone.
19. We Are Complicated || Bubbline
Bonnibel Kaugummi entered the school and was quick to drop her things off in her locker so she could head straight to the Student Council room. She grabbed a couple of her books out of the locker and shoved them into her messenger bag. The tan colored bag complimented her uniform, which consisted of a grey sweater, a red ribbon tied into a neat bow, which was neatly tucked underneath the collar of her white button up shirt underneath her sweater, and a red plaid skirt. The red accents to her uniform identified her as a Junior, and they complimented her red-orange hair and rosy complexion.
20. The End of All Things || KouKag
Kagome let out a soft sigh as she curled up in her spot on the bench, bringing her legs up to her chest. She was sitting out on the small deck that overlooked the garden in her backyard and watching the rain. It was fairly cool out thanks to the constant drizzle that had begun early that morning. The sound of it pattering against the ground and roof that extended over the deck filled her with a sense of calm, a calm that she desperately needed right about now. Working as a nurse wore her out. She loved her job, of course, but gods if it didn’t have its trials and tribulations. She had been working almost every day for a solid two weeks now, covering shifts for people on top of her own. Thankfully she had a couple of her shifts taken from her after being at the hospital for a full 24 hours at one point in time. Today just so happened to be her natural day off, and she felt pretty great about it.
RULES:  repost, don’t reblog. just pick a muse of yours and fill it out.
MUSE: Zelda
Tumblr media
— basics
▸ is your muse tall/short/average? She’s average height, which is 5′3″ however in the world of LOZ where most characters are sizes of trees... she’s probably considered on the short side. In fact, she’s actually shorter than almost all of the cast in SS save for a few characters. Especially since she’s around the same height as manlet king Link. As Hylia in her past life, when in her form that mortals can comprehend, because looking at a god is similar to staring into five suns, she was a seven foot goddess. Even bigger in goddess form but by mortal eyes it just looks like a great ball of light haha!
▸ are they okay with their height? It’d be nice if she could be just a few inches taller in order to get books from the highest shelves. And maybe knock a few taller folk’s pegs down... aside from that, she’s fine with it!! Though the short jokes can get irksome.
▸ what’s their hair like? Very soft, super thick and an over abundance of it. It may seem short in that low pony tail she sports but it actually falls to her waist in terms of length. She takes good care of it and tends to style it in mostly low ponytail or other hair styles that keeps it out of her face. Side note: It is a-ok to play with her hair so long as you don’t mess around too much with it.
▸ do they spend a lot of time on their hair/with their grooming? A normal amount of time is spent on it! Gotta take good care of those goldie locks of hers!
▸ does your muse care about their appearance? Of course! To an extent! First impressions are important and all. She likes looking cute as a button if she can help it, thanks! Honestly though she likes to look and feel cute more for herself rather than others. Nothing wrong with loving to wear pink and other pastel colors and simple jewelry that goes with your outfit and junk!!
▸ does your muse care about what others think about them? Hmm. Yes and no! Not nearly enough to completely change herself for others in order to appear better or anything, Zelda is very much an open book and what you see is what you get with this girl. She’s not going to try hard to make you like her or anything. But well, she has that natural charm going for her so :’)
— preferences
▸ indoors or outdoors? Both? Both! She loves the outdoors but staying inside to read or to sew/knit something is also nice to her!  ▸ rain or sunshine? Sunshine ▸ forest or beach? Forest ▸ precious metals or gems? Metals ▸ flowers or perfumes? Flowers ▸ personality or appearance?  Personality  ▸ being alone or being in a crowd? AH hm, both seem very extreme options haha. Either way she doesn’t mind both settings.  ▸ order or anarchy? Order ▸ painful truths or white lies? TEAM PAINFUL TRUTHS AFTER ALL THAT’S HAPPENED IN SS HWEOH, she’ll try to make the delivery gentle as possible but well the truth hurts.  ▸ science or magic? Magic ▸ peace or conflict? Peace! ▸ night or day? Day, she’s out like a light once the sun’s down lol  ▸ dusk or dawn? The dawn!!  ▸ warmth or cold? Warmth, she’s been spoiled by the mild weather in Skyloft so experiencing super cold and bitter winter for the first time was like 8D to D8 in a matter of five seconds. ▸ many acquaintances or a few close friends? Few close friends ▸ reading or playing a game? Both! She’s a bit of a bookworm for sure (I mean all those books in her room) however she also likes to have fun too!
— questionnaire
▸ what are some of your muse’s bad habits? COMBINING WORRYWART TENDENCIES WITH BUSYBODY HABITS IS NEVER A GOOD COMBO BECAUSE GIRL WILL TAKE MATTERS INTO HER OWN HANDS AND WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY EXCUSES WHATSOEVER IF SHE FEELS SOMEONE’S SLACKING ON SOMETHING. She tends to rush into things if she comes to her own conclusions and will sometimes press forward without thinking much on it. When she steps in like this it’s mostly done from a good place and she only does this with nothing but good intentions. She’s responsible to a fault, putting everything and everyone above her own needs first and foremost. And the girl could learn to be a bit more selfish.
▸ has your muse lost anyone close to them? how has it affected them? :’)))))) It wasn’t enough recalling her past life. But gosh, as Zelda? Impa. Without a shadow of a doubt, she still misses Impa and still regrets not being able to say something as simple as thank you before Impa passes on. Of course, there was more that she’d wanted to say but thank you sums up all of her feelings neatly with a pretty bow and all. Zelda is pretty straightforward with revealing her inner thoughts and this increases tenfold once Impa passes on.
▸ what are some fond memories your muse has? Any time spent with Link and in the skies. She also loved spending time traveling around with Impa because of how much wisdom Impa had given her throughout the journey as well as being an amazing friend.
▸ is it easy for your muse to kill? You’d think she’d be used to the idea considering her past life as Hylia but if she can help, Zelda will never ever kill.
▸ what’s it like when your muse breaks down? Tragic. WAIT I’M REALIZING THAT THIS SOUNDS SO DRAMATIC BUT WAIT HOLD ON LET ME EXPLAIN. I’ve mentioned time and time again that Zelda is someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, she’s very expressive and very in tune with her emotions, having no issue with showing whatever thoughts she has out in the open. So with that in mind, she has no issue with expressing what doesn’t exactly make her happy. Once she breaks down it’s mostly when things are finally over. Whether for better or worse, that’s when she just lets loose and lets the water work go. No crying until the very end and all that... honestly... this question needs more context though hweoh.
▸ is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life? EHHH well, yes and no. She believes in giving chances to everyone, benefit of the doubt and all that jazz. And she likes to believe in the best in others, as such she does like to extend trust to them too. But to trust another with her own literal life is a bit much for her ;v;
▸ what’s your muse like when they’re in love? EVEN MORE DISGUSTINGLY CUTE GOD I can guarantee that any couple with Zel is going to be the new grossly in love couple that’s all lovey dovey aka very cute hours. You’re dating Miss. 💝💘💕🎀🎀uwu girl🍬🌸🌸🌷🍭🌺 herself. You more or less signed up for this. That said, it all ties into with what was said above in that she has no issues with expressing herself as such she will openly display her affection once that whole shy period goes out the window after the Confession™ happens. She loves spending time with S/O the most, doing just about anything! Zelda has lots of love to give and she’ll spoil her S/O with it. I’m sorry for any future grossly cute content u-u
NCT AS DIMENSION 20
okay so firstly, this is very niche but its been on my mind for literally ages now. im mostly gonna be focusing on fantasy high characters because that’s the one im most familiar with(d20 release free episodes of crown of candy already ;-; ya girl is suffering) i think i might write a fic or a couple more posts based off this concept but im not sure yet lvfksdvsk let’s get startedddddddd:
so i believe that 2000 line would be the most accurate for fantasy high main characters. i WAS gonna have dream at first but there are 7 members and there are only 6 mcs. so 2000 liners are pretty much perfect for this.
Tumblr media
okay idk if it’s me or renjun gives off the extremely polite vibes at first? like thinking of early dream era where he seemed really quiet and chill. buuuuut then i also flashback to him putting chenle in a chokehold in like mfal era which makes me think of the cafeteria scene. i dont think renjun is as anxious as adaine. hes def more confident and more forceful but i think he has that ethereal factor adaine has. renjun would absolutely be a high elf because he would be NOTHING less and he deserves it. i think wizard class fits him really well! also his tiny little elf ear may have convinced me to make him adaine....
Tumblr media
so jeno is literally the most like gorgug and it makes me wanna cry kjfnvlsdkl they’re both such loveable sweethearts that are too good for this world but then sometimes???? they just get super intense and fucking insane and it scares me sometimes holy shit. gorgug deals massive damage in battle and can fucking wreck people and jeno,,,,,,lets not talk about it. ALSO i do think jeno would absolutely act like gorgug does with zelda(probably more likely when he was gorgug’s age but oh well) gorgug can be very ditzy(himboish if that’s a better word) but he gives really good advice.and i feel like even though jeno is so foolish, he is supportive and is a wonderful friend. i just fucking love them so much
Tumblr media
HAECAHN IS LITERALLY FIG I FUCKING SHIT YOU NOT: in this essay i will explain why lee haechan is actually fig in disguise. not ONLY does he give a lot of affection/flirt with basically everyone, he’s literally the perfect definition o f bard. like come onnnnnnn. also he’s VERY mischievous and gets the gang into 90% of the trouble and somehow gets them out of it. the “makes problems on purpose but solves them by accident” type. it’s not just because i wanna see him play a bass and jeno on drums bc that would be sexy of them noooooo absolutely not. if you ever see haechan in an outfit similar to fig’s, just know i’ll be literally laying in a grave just know this. STYLISTS PUT THIS MAN IN FISHNETS IMMEDIATELY FOR SCIENCE PURPOSES. bitches be emotional and then say theyre closed off,,,,, literally haechan at both the last dream show with mark and the dream show before they would have graduated
Tumblr media
HES A JOCK DWEEB DO I NEED TO GO FURTHER?? okay so i know that jaemin is pretty introverted and quiet at times bc he likes to chill and im the same way, but when he’s out of his shell or with people who share his energy HES LEGIT LIKE FABIAN. my man’s was a SPEED SKATER, which is so fucking surprising but not the point. im saying that he’s also pretty lean and quick when he wants to be and that makes him good for the type of fighter fabian is. not to mention the weird relationship both fabian and gorgug have and also jaemin and jeno’s relationship. a l s o fabian straight up punched gorgug and then started becoming his friend after being spending time in detention and stuff. jeno and jaemin legit joined at the same time and were seatmates in school and stuff like that.... but this aint about those two. also jaemin’s intonation is fucking funny sometimes but other times i AM willing to fight him bc he wont talk normally (this is a joke vksjdkjs) but the same goes for fabian. the confidence they both have is literally unmatched, its actually kinda scary
Tumblr media
first of all look at how spiffy they look, its actually adorable. second, look at my gremlin childrennnnnnnn i love themmmm(yes i know riz is a goblin no i dont care) okay shotaro is literally a child and he’s kinda still new so he’s a bit shy. but he ACTUALLY terrifies me with how talented he is. like in the recent relay when he learned the dance in like an hour. my guy is so quick at picking things up, he’s the perfect riz. also his korean has gotten so good in just like 3 and a half months so that just showssssss how hardworking he is. i dont know, i feel like shotaro is hiding some feral energy and we just need to wait it out and he’ll be foaming at the mouth or smth. shotaro is a liiiiiiitle too cool for the Ball but they both kinda have that dorky feeling to them. like the kid brother whose hair you ruffle all the time. but all in all i just think he’s neat :]
Tumblr media
okay the photos dont match that well but thats because i was trying to find him in the pink takeoff outfit and i couldnt find a good screenshot but that’s not the point. now you’re probably thinking “helios, yangyang cant be kristen. make him the Ball or fig or anybody else.” ohoho quite the opposite my friend. i think  yangyang is the most like kristen purely bc of the untapped chaotic energy these two have. i literally remember both my first impression of kristen and yy were that they were mostly harmless and then somehow they started speaking and holy shit im terrified of them now. it also makes yangyang being a healer very interesting. they’re both really caring and outgoing, but some of the shit they say literally makes me head fucking spin bc it’s so ridiculous.
Honorable mentions:
Taeyong is Prinicpal Aguefort bc he is one of the only ones who has that chaotic yet majestic energy he has.
Johnny is either Johnny Spells or Jawbone. Johnny Spells because he hangs out with the kiddos a lot and i just think of the “johnny spells fucks” bit and it makes me laugh so hard. but also Jawbone because he’s our emotional support werewolf basically. he also gives great advice.
Doyoung is Sandra Lynn because of how much of fig/haechan’s shit they have to put up with. also i think the dynamic’s are really funny and similar
Chenle as Torek,,,,,do i need to explain any further
Tumblr media
hey guys sorry about the couple of days i wasn’t posting!! this thing took a little longer than i thought-- but yeah! i’ve seen other artists draw their own interpretations of all the incarnations of Links, and i finally decided to draw the versions i’ve made up together with a friend of mine all in one place! get a load of these fools
tumblr wouldn’t let me post these in rows without them getting super blurry so there’s gonna be closeups, headcanons, etc under the cut
Tumblr media
Time (Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask):  - post-majora’s mask but he still has the scars from oot(dont ask me how idk either)  - Really Fucked up. Very Strange Grandpa  - despite actually having had the years to grow up this time he still acts like a kid  - idk i can’t really describe him but he’s just been through so much stress his only remaining emotion is essentially just “:)”  - he’s gone back to hyrule and is just kinda wandering around he got those two shoulder pads as a gift and they’re based off of the ones he has as a ghost  - the gauntlets are redesigned golden gauntlets only because i forgot what they looked like  - he’s missing his right eye from a wolfos and lost his finger when Ganon slapped his sword out of his hand also he has goron tattoos on his shoulders  - headcanon that he’s Zelda’s twin brother but they just never were told about it
Tumblr media
Sky (Skyward Sword):  - he’s got Sleepy Bitch Disease  - just wants to rest...... please let him Sleep For Once  - he gets very snappy and Rude, especially when he’s tired but he’s pretty patient and sweet around people he’s fond of  - headcanon that he has some form of asthma(because in game hes like constantly gasping for air)  - after the events of his game hes just Tuckered Out and just wants to sleep for the rest of his life  - i didn’t really give him any redesigns, just let him keep his skyloft outfit  - his scars are from demise and ghirahim(jerks)
Tumblr media
Twi (Twilight Princess):  - COUNTRY BOYYYY I LOVE YOUU  - furry boy go awooo  - amazing with animals and kids but doesn’t really cope too well in social situations because he gets Nervous  - GAY. I WONT ACCEPT ANY OTHER ANSWER  - headcanon that he’s the direct descendant of Time  - goes back to his Farming Ways after the War and just chills with the rest of Ordon village  - most of his scars are from those stupid Ghost Rats but he also has some others from Ganondorf
Tumblr media
Wild (Breath of the Wild):  - ‘scuse me everyone certified ROWDY BOY comin through  - he seems very normal from a distance but as soon as you get close to him you will realize that you just found a Raccoon  - *sees anything* oh! yum!  - really, really loves cooking and is actually really good at it even if his ingredients come from questionable locations  - headcanon that along with every other memory he lost, he also forgot most of what was pressuring him before his Death and is now completely unhinged and will not stop for anyones social standards  - he has a couple scars from being blasted by guardians but honestly most of his other ones are because he just really loves rolling down mountainsides
Tumblr media
Warrior (Hyrule Warriors):  - hh,,, Anxious boy :(  - he just really wants approval and he damn well deserves it  - when he first got appointed as the hero of whatever and got the master sword he was honestly starting to get a bit cocky  - but then Cia Promptly ripped all of that confidence and Rude Boy Behaviour out of him and he became :( again  - he could speak beforehand but he got an injury during the battles and is now rendered practically mute  - has a couple major scars underneath his scarf/tunic but he managed to keep his face mostly unscathed somehow
Tumblr media
Albi (A Link Between Worlds/Tri Force Heroes):  - Shy,,,, doesnt like Attention  - honestly just wants to be left alone but since he’ss the hero of whatever people just Gave Him Too Much Love  - broke down and is now Fashionable  - sometimes likes to sew or paint  - headcanon that he’s colourblind(tritanopia)  - those little marks on his skin are little “wall cracks” from merging too often  - has a few scars but no important ones tbh
Tumblr media
Minish (The Minish Cap):  - small and Super Mad About It  - he’s extremely quiet and only really ever talks if he’s mad or asked a question  - and even then he says as few words as he can possibly muster  - really dedicated blacksmith and is pretty good at his job despite his age  - still hangs out with Zelda a whole lot theyre still Best Friends  - the scar is from his fight with Vaati and he got an undershirt with a collar to hide it a bit because he feels a bit self conscious about it :(
Tumblr media
Every Game I Played in 2019, Ranked
 2019 sure was a year that happened where I happened to play some video games. Here’s the ones I played enough to form opinions, in a rough ranked order of preference.
It’s kind of weird that I’ve done this for five years now, but hey. I like to talk about things that I like / dislike. Hopefully you’ll empathize with my complaints, and give ones I enjoyed a try.
As a bonus, I also tweeted about the anime I watched and enjoyed this year.
Orm & Cheep: Narrow Squeaks – 1985 – ZX Spectrum – ★
How far would you go for a joke? For the sake of a joke, I spent an hour beating an incomprehensible, shitty ZX Spectrum Game about Orm & Cheep, an 80s British children show I only know about from a Trash Night video making fun of it.
Tumblr media
Orm & Cheep: Birthday Party – 1985 – ZX Spectrum – ★
… and also this one, though Birthday Party is marginally better than Narrow Squeaks. Marginally. Extremely marginally. Congratulations to Orm & Cheap: Birthday Party.
16. River City Girls – 2019 – Switch – ★★★
The style of River City Girls is great. I like a lot of what it’s doing in terms of look and sound. It’s just that… well, River City Ransom’s gameplay was interesting something-like 30 years ago. Gameplay wise, this game hasn’t evolved that much from OG RC Ransom. The combat certainly feels better, but as far as it controls… I can’t tell if it’s not taking advantage of modern controllers and just sticking too close to the original’s control scheme, or if side-scrolling beat-em-ups are themselves just so staid and dated these days that there’s not much to be done. I just wasn’t having much fun, and the RC Ransom progression of new techniques and stat boosting didn’t exactly make me want to keep going.
It’s a real shame because in terms of pure aesthetics and concept, the game is amazing. I just don’t actually enjoy playing it. Oh well!
15. Baba is You – 2019 – Switch – ★★★
The core gameplay concept of Baba is You is fantastic. The way you manipulate nouns and verbs to construct phrases that operate as equations in a physical environment is super interesting. The early goings of the game were quite fun.
The problem I have with this game is that when you hit a wall in it, that wall can sometimes be impenetrable. I found that Baba is You is at times too subtle with its attempt to “teach” you tricks or onboard you into approaches to puzzles; it’s possible to come to solutions without taking away the lesson the designer intended, which can make later puzzles basically impossible.
The difficulty curve feels all over the place; I was extremely high on this game early on, but after getting completely blocked moving forward for hours on end, with the only real recourse being to either look stuff up or stare at past puzzles to try to figure out what apparently crucial lesson I missed despite coming to my own solutions, I ultimately decided to just do something else.
14. Cadence of Hyrule – 2019 – Switch – ★★★
Zelda has great music. Crypt of the Necrodancer has pretty good rhythm-game action. Combine them, and you get… well, it turns out you get a pretty OK procedurally generated Zelda-game with Necrodancer mechanics, I suppose. The appeal is easy to understand, though I’m personally not sure I care much for the final product.
I enjoyed the original Necrodancer well enough as a simple run-based, short-ish rhythm dungeon crawler. The brevity of each given “run” (stemming in part from my own inadequate skill, I suppose) worked well with the style of gameplay, in that it never really became much of a chore.
Meanwhile, I enjoy Zelda as an extended puzzle adventure game where there’s an innate unthinking flow to the actions. I’m not typically thinking much about the moment-to-moment about the actual mechanics of the action; the brain’s desires flow directly to the motion on the screen, as it were.
Combining the two results in a Necrodancer experience that’s way too long, and a Zelda experience that is way harder to control. Add the fact that the procedurally generated world isn’t that interesting and I’m just rather lukewarm on this. Meh!
13. Super Robot Wars T – 2019 – PS4 – ★★★
It’s fantastic that Super Robot Wars is finally getting proper, high-quality localizations again. It felt like a dream to finally be able to play this franchise again after being forced to stop after the DS era. Playing through the rather roughly translated, and somewhat monotonous SRW OG: Moon Dwellers was good because the OG games tended to have the highest production values and narrative quality (missing out on 2nd OG may have also helped). SRW V was my first foray into the more recent non-OG games, and so shined as something rather fresh to me.
Two years on, and two Super Robot Wars releases later, it’s plain to see that Super Robot Wars’ current annual release cadence is not great. It results in incredibly repetitive, monotonous games that rely heavily on asset reuse— both between games, and even within the same game. Part of the problem is that the derivativeness doesn’t feel additive. It’s not like SRW T is SRW V + SRW X + New Stuff; it’s more that SRW T is a reskinned SRW V, with some heavy series-asset reuse to boot. I think it’d be a bit more tolerable if it felt like these games were building on each other, but every single one feels exactly as slight and mechanically weak.
Super Robot Wars’ combat have not been particularly good from a tactical sense for a long time now. The original OG games were probably the last time the combat was particularly interesting for me, as it presented an actual challenge and difficulty curve. Nowadays, they are entirely fanservice cakewalks, even on the hardest modes. Hell, they’ve apparently decided that increasing the difficulty of the game means you don’t get to chase the special challenge goals, which actually can paradoxically make portions of the hard-mode actually easier than the normal. Bizarre!
 I guess the idea is “well, folks are playing this to see the bits, so if it’s hard they won’t!” Which… I disagree? If the gameplay is deeply unsatisfying, why wouldn’t I just watch the damn series? Crossover shenanigans don’t mean much whey you don’t do much with it. Fanservice talking heads ain’t enough!
The addition of Cowboy Bebop and the return of GaoGaiGar and Gunbuster should have had me onboard. The series list for this game is fantastic. But what they do with it is so flat that about 30 chapters in, I just… stopped. It wasn’t worth it. I’d plainly seen all that it had to offer. Easy, slow, and repetitive gameplay isn’t appealing to me, even if I do get to see Spike Spiegel doing sky donuts to take out a Zaku.
Additionally: stop putting Nadesico in these games. The units are boring, the plot is boring. Stop devoting so much time to it! It sucks!!
12. Ape Out – 2019 – Switch – ★★★★
Ape Out is a game where you’re a big ol’ gorilla murdering guys with guns while dope ass percussive jazz drums play to the action. It’s cool, it’s short, it could honestly probably do with being somewhat shorter, but whatever. I enjoyed it.
BattleTech – 2018 – Steam – ★★★★
Despite being famously a “mecha guy”, BattleTech has never really been my thing. While I’m not opposed to mecha-as-tank-analog, it’s not my primary focus in the genre; I like my robots to be fast, really. I like mecha getting into melee and fucking shit up. Mecha for me is a power fantasy. That’s not really BattleTech / MechWarrior’s thing. That all being said, I quite enjoyed my time with BattleTech, the PC-game rendition of the tabletop thing. It’s a neat turn-based tactical robot combat RPG with an interesting overarching campaign structure… to a point.
The first issue I had is pacing. While the game is turn-based, the combat and movement plays out in real-time. And given how lumbering these robots are, this means that a single mission can take aaaages. Think 45 minutes to an hour for a single mission. It took me about 20-30 hours to get to the campaign’s halfway point, which is when the game really started to sour on me.
The second issue is one of variance. Let me run you through the fundamental loop of the game. You are a mercenary captain that has a ship of mechs and mech pilots, and you fly around from planet to planet taking on jobs. You need money to pay for your ship to keep going, as well as to pay your pilots. It’s expensive to outfit your mechs, and severe damage to them can both REALLY eat into your budget and also take weeks in-game to repair. Missions are rated based on difficulty, and you are expected generally to field a greater “tonnage” of mechs in excess to that difficulty. This all plays out pretty well.
The game starts with you possessing mostly lighter mechs, and as you progress, you’re presented more and more missions in the campaign that require increasingly beefier mechs with more armor and more guns. Whereas in the tabletop game there’s presumably a kind of “point” system by which players are given a limited amount of tonnage that they can field on any given mission (for purposes of balance), there’s no such limit in the game; as such, you’re encouraged to field the four-ish beefiest robots you have, as they’re the most likely to kill everything fast while coming out with the least damage.
How do you get these beefy mechs? Well, you don’t buy them; instead, you’re aiming to kill opposing pilots and leave their robots as much intact as possible so that you can salvage or steal them. It’s kind of amusing; your entire gameplan after a point becomes “how the fuck do I shake this robot around a bunch such that its pilot dies???” It makes sense in practice, but if you think about it for even a second it comes across rather silly. Given you need good mechs to progress, you don’t have much other choice other than just running tonnnsss of missions and hoping you eventually get enough mech fragments to reconstruct some of your own. But beefy-ness isn’t the whole story, as some of the robots you can get just plain suck, regardless of their tonnage. You’re basically rolling dice again and again hoping a robot worthy of stealing shows up so you can kill its friends, and try to kill its pilot as gently as possible. You go through this cycle four times, across the four different weight-classes, until you’ve got what you need in terms of a team of class-appropriate mechs.
The fundamental lack of variety in what you field combines with every single mission really being “how do I kneecap everyone” instead of the given mission objective to make the game quite samey. Mission types don’t vary much, and the environments don’t constrain you all that much, either; the only ones that are particularly interesting are moons and Mars-like planets where your mechs’ ability to regulate their heat become much more constrained, which can necessitate loadout changes.
I enjoyed the story enough for what it was, but honestly? After 30 hours, I was pretty much good. I had a good time with BattleTech, but I’d had my fill.
Mortal Kombat X – 2015 – Steam – ★★★★
In my ongoing adventure of playing the Mortal Kombat games for their goofy plot / story modes and nothing else, I played Mortal Kombat X. I’m not sure there’s much to talk about these other than “Hey I enjoy their dumb ongoing narrative; I wonder where they’ll go from here!”
Tumblr media
11. Mortal Kombat XI – 2019 – Steam – ★★★★
Ditto. The plot for these games are getting sillier and sillier, and the ending of XI may be the most ridiculous yet. In a good way.
Tumblr media
10. Devil May Cry V – 2019 – Steam – ★★★★
Character action games are heavily predicated on the question of “How do we spice the game up over time so that it stays interesting… without overwhelming the player?” Devil May Cry V’s answer is “well, we’ll slowly give them more characters with their own expanding skill sets, that’ll be neat!”
It is neat, but I’m not sure it was actually a good idea. The three protagonists all have extremely different move sets, meaning that the forced switches between them on a chapter-to-chapter basis results in you never really mastering any one of them. Each character has a ton of depth, but… take, for example, Nero, the “main” protagonist. He has a sub-mechanic involved with revving his motorcycle sword to boost damage. I never actually figured out how to get to work. Never really had to, because he had so many other mechanics that were also effective, and I never had much time with him alone to dial in the weird motorcycle thing.
DMCV also does probably my least favorite gameplay gimmick of “introduce new mechanics in a boss battle!” Like great, you gave me a whole new move set here, and are now going to rate me on my performance when you’ve never given me a chance to learn these skills? Oh wait, you’re giving me new mechanics in the final boss battle!?! Fuck off. That sucks!
Also, I think I’m an outlier, but I actually preferred playing as V, the control-three-characters-at-once-while-reading-a-book guy. Just felt like I dialed his move set in easier. Weird.
9. Untitled Goose Game – 2019 – Switch – ★★★★
I’m not going to pretend that this is a deep game, or an enduring game, or even necessarily a great game. But I had a lot of fun with it, I have a lot of good memories thinking about it, and I am glad that so many people out there are now wrestling with the fact that birds can be both terrible and also good. Untitled Goose Game carries a powerful message about avian kind. You would do well to learn from it.
8. Super Mario Maker 2 – 2019 – Switch – ★★★★
Mario Maker 2 is such an incremental upgrade to Mario Maker that it hardly feels like it earns that “2”. That being said: Mario Maker 1 is pretty darn good so it’s not like that’s all that bad. The additional mechanics and story mode are good, granted, but like… I had been wanting more than just Mario Maker 1.5.
As is, it was pretty easy to get bored with Mario Maker pretty quickly, given it was mostly a game I’d already played quite a bit before. The addition of the campaign held my interest for a fair amount of time, but I’m not exactly coming back to this all that often. Hopefully the content updates they seem to be rolling into it keep up.
7. Kind Worlds: Lo-Fi Beats to Write To – 2019 – Steam – ★★★★
This is less a video game and more a sort of vague pen-pal application masquerading as a game, but man… the existence of this thing is neat. It’s just a program where folks write letters about their problems, and people send them stuff back. That’s it.  It’s kind of a sweet thing to just exist.
I’m not a person with what would one term especially Heavy Problems, but just going through other folks letters and giving them an encouraging word is itself nice.
6. The Outer Worlds – 2019 – Epic Game Store – ★★★★
Having been deeply disappointed with the quality of Fallout 4, I was very happy to see Obsidian come back to do their own Fallout-a-like. The Outer Worlds isn’t perfect; I wish it had a bit more of a bite, the gunplay was… fine, the environment design was kind of dull, and the gameplay loop did not outlast the length of the game itself. But I had a fun enough time with it.
That said, I think the dearth of me having much to say here sort of speaks to how… rather unambitious the writing and design ended up being. There’s not a ton to say about it. It’s more responsive than a Fallout 4, to be sure, but even that caps out at a point. It doesn’t necessarily offer much in the way of RPG-style different “paths” to develop your character in terms of who they are or how they behave, beyond the sort-of four-way axis of “grouch to nice” and “corporatist to socialist.” The skill tree ends up being pretty flat, and you can basically become a master of everything by the end.
Shruggo.
5. Pokémon Sword – 2019 – Switch – ★★★★
Pokémon Sword/Shield is a bizarre thing— its design is constantly fighting against itself. There are tons of ease-of-use improvements– but it somehow has some of the worst online in the series. It gives you dozens of complex, half-explained systems— but also feels the need to hold your hand lest you get lost in its incredibly linear, dull story. It adds challenging Pokémon raid battles that you largely need to team up with other players to beat— but also has one of the most trivial progressions in the series. It has a huge and varied open “Wild Area” where you can catch hundreds of Pokémon before ever facing the first gym— but that wild area largely exists as a world unto its own separate from the traditional Pokémon “routes”. It doesn’t want to have a plot up until the very end when it decides that gee, I guess we have to, even if it makes no sense.
Let’s go into these in more detail.
Sword/Shield introduces a ton of gameplay improvements. Auto-saving, while problematic in places, is super useful. The ability to move Pokémon directly from the box to your party is great, and removes a lot of process headaches. Single hand controls are a godsend for both improved accessibility and general ease of use. Items are way easier to get, Pokemon are easier to raise, and this is probably the easiest game in the entire series to breed and raise “high tier” Pokemon for online battling.
On the other hand: despite your friend list being loaded into the game, you are forced to use a bizarre password system and request system that is super confusing and prone to issues. You cannot directly trade or battle or play with friends except through this, which occasionally results in headaches anytime someone uses the same four-digit password as you and your bud. The Max Raid battle system is super poorly explained in-game in terms of how you find and join others raids— I only divined it by a tweet someone made. They did away with the “GTS” trading system they had used for the past decade that allowed global Pokemon bartering, presumably in favor of encouraging more natural trades— but didn’t give any way to actually communicate with people in game what you want to trade for. It encourages more in-person interaction, but that’s once again playing into Game Freak’s obsession with the Japanese mode of gaming.
Sword/Shield perhaps has the most sheer amount of systems in any one of these games. It’s not necessarily all good, but in terms of “wow, you’re not babying us huh” it is at least interesting. There’s Pokemon that evolve based on absurd, never-explained conditions like “number of crits in a single battle”, “pass underneath this specific rock when they’re at low health”, “spin baby spin.” The wild area has tons of mechanical stuff that they let you explore without forcing your hand much, and they let you explore it freely without really railroading you. There’s a separate wild-area specific currency system based on raids / dens that you just stumble upon unprompted, really.
On the other hand, the core story progression of the game though… is perhaps the most infuriatingly patronizing thing I’ve experienced. Cutscenes happen every 15 seconds, often-times forcing your movement, and are almost of zero consequence beyond someone going HEY YOU SHOULD GO THAT WAY. The game is completely unwilling to let you get lost when going through the story. It’s constant, it’s unrelenting, it’s maddening. It literally made me mad.
Pokémon Raid battles are super interesting. The battles themselves aren’t necessarily hard, but the kinds of things they present— in terms of providing access to unique Pokémon, rare items, and the fact that they’re not as “rinse-and-repeat” as normal battles— gives the system and game increased longevity. It’s a pretty deep system, with meaningful rewards. A five-star battle is time consuming and you run the risk of failing, but if you pull it off you can get items like TRs, EXP candies, even bottle caps (super useful items that let you increase the baseline stat “DNA” of your Pokémon), and the captured Pokémon can have unique moves you’d normally have to breed and possess extremely high baseline stats. You can even get hidden secret abilities! Nice!
On the other hand: the core game progression is so piss easy and straight forward. The game’s leveling curve is all out of whack, in part because their introduction of a forced “always on” EXP share. In older games, you’d only get EXP from actively battling and beating a Pokemon in a fight, or having participated in a fight. Now, your whole team gets EXP just from being around, and you also get EXP from catching Pokemon, making curry, and all sorts of other small activities. All of this is fine or even good in the abstract as it makes raising stuff easier, but the game isn’t well balanced around it. Encounters don’t scale, which can result in you steamrolling the game if you engage with any of the game’s other systems prior to beating the game. I had to compensate by stretching my normal party of six into a party of 10, constantly swapping members out to keep the average level across the party down. Additionally, the only non-PVP reason to train and breed pokes, the Battle Tower, is so trivially easy this time that… why bother??
The wild area system is brilliant. A big criticism I’ve had with this series in the past is that the kinds of Pokemon any given player is bound to encounter and capture tend to be pretty similar. The limited amount of Pokemon that tend to be put on a traditional Pokemon route, and the limited means you have to encounter them (“hey I walk through the grass, we’ll see what pops up”) doesn’t trend towards players ending up with very different party compositions, just because there’s not a ton of options at any given point. The wild area completely tosses that out the window. As an open space, the types of things someone encounters will vary wildly— and it’s further varied by player-specific weather conditions that dynamically change the encounter tables. It completely opens up the kinds of Pokemon one can encounter early on, presenting hundreds of appropriately leveled options for players. It’s brilliant. The intermixing of both grass-only, overworld-visible, and raid-specific Pokemon also increases the range of encounters. It’s the accomplishment of the core Pokemon concept of “explore and find everything.” Finally.
On the other hand: the wild area is actually kind of boring to explore, visually speaking. It’s basically the Ocarina of Time field with sporadic patches of grass. There’s little actually diversity or mechanics to its exploration, especially when compared to the fact that… the game still has normal routes. They still behave as they always have, except that by the total remove of “Hidden Machine” mobility moves, the ability to explore geographically has been severely hampered. There’s no “gee, I can’t get there yet, guess I’ll have to come back later” except for a single mobility mechanic (the ability to go over the water, introduced very late in the game). It makes revisiting past areas mostly a box-checking exercise, and in general feels like an odd juxtaposition. They either should went all-in on the wild area or better merged the concepts together, because as is it feels… weird. Especially because the wild area could have done with being bigger and more diverse looking.
The game spends most of its time having no story at all, which is kind of boring. Juxtaposed with the railroading stuff where there’s still constant cutscenes with their mostly mediocre characters who don’t do all that much, it almost comes across as padding than anything. There are good characters (Piers and Marnie are the best, the gym leaders in general are good) but man do they try too hard to put Leon over.
But then at the end they introduce the story super quickly and it’s very dumb in a way that made me laugh out loud so congrats I guess.
All in all, I rather liked Sword/Shield. It’s no Sun/Moon— which innovated in tons of places and had an extremely charming story, cast, and progression— but the places that it innovates, and the ease-of-use improvements that they’ve put in the game, are great improvements to the baseline formula. While it’s caused a ton of drama online, the Pokédex and Pokémon Bank stuff are not huge impacts on my personal enjoyment of the game. It kind of stinks a bit, but the overall package is still quite good and fun.
 The Legend of the Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Master Mode – 2017 – Switch – ★★★★★
Breath of the Wild was my favorite game the year it was released. The harder Master Mode is something that had interested me as something to check out for a replay, but I decided to wait until the shadow of my previous playthrough loomed somewhat less. Breath of the Wild is, after all, both a monumental game and also a monumentally large game. Going back to it for Master Mode would mean (by way of my own obsessive brain) 100%ing it all over again, which is extremely time consuming, even if I don’t go after the all the Koroks.
There was also this sort of reticence in my behind to confront the creeping suspicion I’ve had in my mind that some of the DLC additions have made the core game worse. Which, I would say… is probably somewhat the case. Certain DLC gear items extremely imbalance standard play and really fuck with the exploration of the game (specifically, Majora’s Mask basically making you not have to fight multiple enemy types). Still, I knew I could ignore those, and just focus down on the core experience of Master Mode: harder enemies, regenerating enemy health, and the introduction of floating platforms.
Turns out, BOTW is still fucking amazing, and while the additions Master Mode make aren’t essential, they do make for a fun second run of a fantastic game. The harder enemies make the early parts of that game WAY HARDER (making you really have to get good at using your bombs and stealth), and while that difficulty ramp doesn’t keep up throughout (which, honestly, the platforms are somewhat to blame as they make getting certain bits of higher-level loot earlier easier), it’s still just a great game to go back to.
Breath of the Wild remains my all-time favorite game. Hyped for BOTW2.
4. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – 2019 – Steam – ★★★★★
Sekiro is in a sense the purest expression of the Souls formula. Stripped away of the jolly co-op, the PVP, the stats, the equipment, and most customization to speak of, Sekiro asks the simple question: can you do this? Can you learn all the systems in this quite challenging game, and engage with it on its own terms?
In its mechanical simplicity, I found Sekiro to be my favorite game of that lineage, as it has allowed them to really polish the gameplay by its singular focus. It just feels amazing to stealth around and backstab dudes, parry everything, and triumph in nail-biting sword duels. While you do gain new skills and equipment (in the form of the ninja tools), they are just supplementing the fundamental systems of the game, rather than acting as diverging ones. So really, most of your time is spent not learning wholly new methods of combat, but instead improving your mastery of the core one.
And the feel of mastering that combat is incredible. By the end you feel unstoppable; normal enemies that would have been challenges early on are nothing. Even a lot of the bosses become trivial as-time goes on, bar the few ‘mastery test’ bosses interleaved throughout the progression. This isn’t some “hey I got more EXP and now over-level for everything!” thing, either; this is me, the human holding the controller getting skilled enough to become a Sekiro master. It’s an amazing feeling.
I beat every single boss in the game, including the hidden ones, and enjoyed the hell out of it.
3. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night – 2019 – Steam – ★★★★★
I’m very much on the record as being a huge IGAvania partisan. I fuckin’ love the core loop of that permutation of the Metroidvania formula. Koji Igarashi no longer being able to make Castlevanias hurt me. A lot. Over a decade of time spanned between the last IGAvania game, Order of Ecclesia, and the release of Bloodstained. I was a bit worried.
Thank god Bloodstained is really, really, really good.
Bloodstained is extremely “one of those.” You move about a 2D interconnected world, collect items and abilities until you find the stuff that let you move forward in a new area. It’s kind of an eclectic hybrid of IGA’s past titles. The castle design feels very Aria of Sorrow. The shard mechanics feel close to Aria/Dawn of Sorrow’s soul system. The weapons feel very Symphony of the Night meets Portrait of Ruin. The overall mechanics of movement feel most akin to Order of Ecclesia. All in all: a good mix.
The game is massive. There’s so many weird one-off mechanics (something I appreciate), bizarre callbacks, goofs. There’s an in-depth alchemy system (mostly used for cooking, which is funny). The shard system is a bit boring in places— some shards are extremely simple and forgettable mechanically— but the shard leveling system is kind of hilarious in how broken it can become. The familiar system from SOTN is back and has been essentially perfected by making it a dedicated slot so you can just hang with a fairy or sword pal.
I wish the game had more enemy diversity, and the story left something to be desired. Many shards just aren’t very interesting. But the game is just so dang fun. The core gameplay loop is just so compelling, and the game just feels so dang good. I’m glad they took all the time to polish the gameplay feel because hooooooooooo boy.
Looking forward to those DLC characters for some additional playthroughs.
2. Outer Wilds – 2019 – Epic Game Store – ★★★★★
“Space exploration”, “cosmology”, “archeology”, and “sociology.” While these are certainly not the only fields that dominate much of my attention, they are some big ones. The Outer Wilds is a space exploration game where you explore the structure of a strange but exquisitely constructed solar system, and dig through the remains of a mysterious vanished alien species. Also, you’re stuck in a Majora’s Mask-like apocalyptic time loop ‘cuz the sun keeps exploding. Should probably find out why that’s happening.
I went into this game completely blind, entirely based on the way Austin Walker was raving about it on twitter. Austin’s interests in heady space shit is pretty similar to my own, and turns out? Worked out quite well for me. I blindly explored this solar system for about twenty hours over the course of a couple weeks, and came away from the experience misty eyed at the ending. Outer Wilds is fantastic.
It’s a surprisingly touching and cozy for a game that mostly about you going off into space on your own, all alone. And that’s because you’re not, really. Outer Wilds is less about the science of exploration and archeology and the meaning of it, why it matters even in the darkest moments. Why do we explore? Why does science matter, divorced from the parasite of industry and markets? What value does it give to us, to future generations?
The game is built on the notion that even as we individually wander, explore, and discover, we’re all together collectively building on something that may outlive us, even outlive our species, the pursuit of a collective knowledge that transcends personal enrichment and individual accomplishments.
You are but one a few alien explorers, each on their own adventure. As you adventure, you catch their signals as you cruise across space. The things you learn and do are further built on the relics and messages left behind by the Nomai, the species that came before. This sense of a personal and emotional connection in the act of discovery is the heart of this game. We’re not standing on the shoulders of giants; we’re holding hands with those before us and those after us to build a bridge to a future that we may not live to see.
It’s a positive message of hope in the face of oblivion.
1. Fire Emblem: Three Houses – 2019 – Switch – ★★★★★
I’ve been really on-and-off on Fire Emblem over the years. I first got in on the franchise with Awakening, which I rather liked for its anime-ass sensibilities— though not without criticism. I found the combat kind of obnoxious in its tendency to get muddied down in the Oops You Done Fucked Up, Time To Reset junk. It was too anime-ass in some places, not the least of which being its incredibly one-note characters who had little bearing on ongoing events so as to support the permadeath system without too much wasted effort on the developers’ part. Fates, the follow-up on Awakening, only amped up these criticisms, becoming convoluted, stupid, and kind of obnoxious to play.
I had hopes that Three Houses would be an improvement. Initial impressions made it seem way more serious, way more grounded, with a lot of improved systems. Turns out: it was better than I could have dared of expected or hoped. Three Houses isn’t improvement, or even innovation; it’s a revolution.
Three Houses is great. It’s long, it’s got so many different systems going on that I hardly know where to begin with describing it, but… it’s great. It’s the platonic ideal of what I’d like out of a Fire Emblem. Things feel like they matter. The setting feels weighty, the plot is actually good, and the characters are absolutely marvelous.
No, it’s not perfect— its handling of representation could DEFINITELY be better. Some of the narrative is hokey as hell in places. Certain routes seem to have gotten more attention than others. The class-based specialization systems could do with more depth such that so many characters don’t end up mostly identically specialized to each other.
But… I found the combat extremely enjoyable.  The charge-based rewind mechanic removed the feel-bad gotchas of unanticipated troop appearances and bad rolls etc. The characters are fun, and they’re kept relevant all the whole way through via creative framing of events. The ability to roam an actual physical space via the monastery made the world feel more alive, and made everything feel more real.
The writing was actually interesting and nuanced, exploring things like faith, race, social classes, feudal politics, and romance. While the three routes are largely similar, it’s interesting just how different the underlying messages of each of them ends up being. I appreciate that in this game where you otherwise spend most of your time hanging around with nobles in a church ends just short of you rolling out the guillotines by the end.
This is a tactical RPG in 2019 that I have put something like 150+ hours into, having beaten only two of the four routes. I was, and still am, deeply invested in everything that is. I’ll probably go back to the other two routes when the final DLC is out next year.
“it kinda makes me sad when artists giving out tutorials on character...”
oh could you talk more about this? :o
ABSOLUTELY thank u for enabling me to go off about designs i love this shit this may get a bit long so its going under a readmore (sorry if ur on mobile i hope it works)
gonna start this off with im no expert Nor have i taken any sort of official art class this is me just analyzing characters from what i found that makes them memorable to ppl (most of these examples are going to be from games sorry i got them on my mind)
ok so basically making a memorable revolves around personality and appearance now theres different ways to go about showing these things and i think from consuming media you like will help narrow down how you wanna go about it, basically thinking about your character inside and out!
SO shapes and hyperstylization is a good way to get a fun appearance across in a cartoon esp media and is often what a lot of artists stress on an example of using shapes and a good silhouette to make a memorable character is sonic!(specifically comic sonic)
Tumblr media
(had to google idw sonic for a non...u know image)
but not only do they use lots of triangles for this hedgehog they also made him blue! you’d be more likely to remember a blue headgehog over a realistically colored one!(also almost all of the sonic characters have a combination of fun shape + unusual color to help you remember them! the designs werent afraid to use color to make a bold statement)(he’s also segas mascot so of course they put a lot of work in his design)
now sonics appearance is not the only reason why people like him or remember him so much he’s also got personality! he’s cocky, fast, always getting into trouble, “you’re too slow!”, accompanied by shitty butt rock and a cool guy persona ie he’s got personality! and they weren’t afraid to give him some weird interests(see the butt rock) and he’s not perfect( see arrogance) if youve ever played a sonic game you have almost always remembered the crush 40 theme that went with it
all in all to go with his unusual appearance he’s got some unusual traits! it helps make him believable! admittedly he’s not the most embarrassing of the sonic crew (see knuckles or shadow) but he’s definitely rounded and not boring from an objective standpoint(you can not like sonic or his games i dont care)
(another example of something that requires good shapes is pokemon altho they arent really like very depthy since there are 600+ and some only have like a pokedex entry worth of info but still they have good and memorable designs)
NOW something that doesnt have the most “good shapes” design off the top of my head is link
Tumblr media
now in the most recent zelda game his most memoriable physical attribute is that he’s on the androgynous side w his longer hair and smaller build but in his older designs he looked something like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(art for a loz:link to the past)
not really that much of a striking silhouette, but what do we look at and kinda leaves an impression on us? his hair and hat! its very silly to see someone in such a big green hat with that big of bangs/mullet, the hat at least became so ridiculous of a look that in botw nintendo didnt include his hat in links main outfit bc it was too hard to make look good, its silly! thats good! its fine to have a normal human looking characters because sometimes stories are about humans, but if you want us to remember them include something that will strike us as strange for them
also probably a good thing to note is the noises link makes when he swings his sword, jumps, pushes something, ie any action they have always been something that has stuck with me
(another example similar to this is in mgs solid snake in mgs is this cool super spy but is rocking a full on mullet which is considered a joke hairstyle. this leaves an impression on us. a spy with a mullet! how ridiculous! another example is raiden who was specifically made bc a woman wrote that she didnt want to play as an “old man” so the protagonist of the super spy game is a longer haired pretty boy (with a huge ass))
now ive explained a little on a character with good shapes and personality and a character with a more “boring” shape design that makes up for it with almost quirky design choices but i feel like theres another series thats what originally got me thinking about how even a memorable silhouette doesnt need hyperstylization
Tumblr media
ace attorney! (which is out on switch now if u havent played it i would def recommend it)
if you dont know the protagonist is the guy in the blue suit(phoenix), which well he looks like just a guy...with ridiculously spikey hair enough so that in his silhouette you can recognize him but also his posture (the pointing) makes for a sticking recognizable image bc if you’ve played the games you can practically hear objection just from looking at phoenix’s silhouette
which is another thing id like to talk about! not only are a good shape a way to have a good silhouette but posture is also important! how the character holds themselves can say alot about them just from a glance! such as meekness, arrogance, confidence, sadness, anger, happiness its a very important too especially when you arent relying on stylization
now onto the characters of ace attorney ive gone over phoenix's design a bit but theres a few others id like to look at with some Weird style choices that make us remember them(just going to glance over them since this post is so long)
Tumblr media
now, this woman, franziska von karma, she dresses kind of strange for a prosecutor but her outfit is not too out there and her silhouette is not striking
but you see that whip? remember how i said she was a prosecutor? yeah she will strike people in court for getting off topic and will even hit phoenix when he starts breaking down her witnesses testimonies, which what literally strikes up about her
Tumblr media
another prosecutor, godot, now his hair could provide a somewhat memorable shape but what we first notice is the strange mask on his face which is weird, but not the Same weird as franziska bringing a whip to court thus having both of these prosecutors being Weirdly memorable for different things (another note is his liking of coffee that he does not give up even in court ha ha)
now onto the other protag for the aa games
Tumblr media
apollo! who also has weirdly spikey hair, but even if you put a silhouette of him next to phoenix you could tell there some was a difference between the two! its showing a pattern with the protags while also keeping them distinct enough to be able to tell who is who! although you cant say the pointy haired guy from ace attorney and not get just One answer unlike saying the prosecutor who has a whip but still they are distinct to people who have little experience with the series
sorry i dont have any sort of conclusion on this this was just sort of me rambling on about character design, but my main point is if you are discouraged bc all your characters dont have wildly different silhouettes thats ok! there are other ways to establish a good memorable character! dont be afraid to make them a little weird! give your character pink hair in a medieval setting, have them be ridiculously in love with tigers they have a striped shirt and pants, let them love childrens tv shows and have them never miss an episode, give them wacky hair or an extreme love of gum, show us some personality!! but dont forget about how they act and their values and dont forget that posture can go a long way for establishing a first impression
there are also many other methods to making a good character! like colors and dress!
silly is the way to go! have fun with it!!
there isnt just one way to make a good character!! theres plenty of more series that have good character design that i didnt mention pay attention to why you like the characters you like! also watch this video bc its really good
List-O-Muses
So, I have a lot, a few I cannot remember, a few I’ve never put on Tumblr... So I shall put up a list of them all... by category! Only certain muses will get an explanation and not all have blogs, the ones I remember that do will have them!
Also some blogs might have autoplay, I will label the ones I remember. Some of these blogs have not been touched in years, I apologize
Muse I’ve Had since Before Tumblr
Lexara (OC)- Originally a special agent of some kind, I made her around about 2005, when I first started to read Manga and started drawing characters. She had short hair- Like me at the time, and she was tough and rugged... because my protected catholic ass hadn’t learned the word ass or any swear word ever.
Muses I’ve had on Tumblr
Category 1- KH and FF
Leon/Squall (Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VIII)- This blog still exists for the nostalgia. I don’t rp on it, but this was my gateway to RP in 2011 on this sight. I made it to be on an AU KH RP community, but it never happened, but I found some of my oldest and closest friends there, so yaaaay!! URL- http://transient-awoken.tumblr.com/ AUTOPLAY WARNING
Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX)
Data Sora (Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded)
Reeve/Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus)
Zetto/Kirbopher- My second attempt at a TOME blog that I loved! the icon is from Muffin, I remember seeing the older one going omg it’s perfect, then I got to know her and she is very nice from what I remember (it’s been a while) URL- http://thexcyborgximp.tumblr.com/
Alpha/Kajet- URL- http://godsheritage.tumblr.com/ idk if it is auto play, but there is the possibility of music so AUTOPLAY WARNING
Sofdti/GC- http://lifelinkoftome.tumblr.com/
Category 3- TOME OCs (I’m putting them all here, even though some might fit in other categories)
Omega- He is one of my all time favorite muses I’ve ever made, I love using him, and I even named my car after him, same orange he has on his outfit. URL-http://remorseformistakes.tumblr.com/
King- Based off of an AU with a character named Lady Tigerlilly where the Virus takes over Zetto’s life. URL- http://incurableshadows.tumblr.com/
Squire- Same AU as above, but the other half of King’s code. Same URL.
Velvet- The Prototype to the Antivirus and ‘Older Sister’ of Cake’s oc Amber. I have done a lot more with her in private RP, so she’s grown more than the blog shows. URL- http://purpuravitae.tumblr.com/
Mocha Latte- The Barista of the Netkings named Jane Doe.
Category 4- Canon Misc (the muses on Tumblr that I used that aren’t big enough to class on their own like 1-3 were)
Raiden (Metal Gear Solid 2, 4, and Revengeance)
Pikachu (Pokemon)
N (Pokemon)
Male Pokemon Trainer (Pokemon Black and White)
Endrance (.hack series)
Haseo (.hack series)
Jade Curtiss (Tales of the Abyss)
Amaterasu (Okami Series)- I think I managed to get the blog url ‘Mother of All’, but that was ages ago
Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic Series)
Levi Ackerman (Attack on Titan)
Nagito Komaeda (Danganronpa)
Rin Matsuoka (FREE!)
Link (Legend of Zelda)- I remember deciding to RP him as a mute, so I got really good at describing actions with him
Dark Link (Legend of Zelda)
Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers)
B.B. Hood (Darkstalkers)
Sesshomaru (Inuyasha)
Category 5- OC Misc (same as above, but OCs)
Xurik (Kingdom Hearts)- Based off of a story I wrote for FANFICTION.NET (so ages ago) And never put up... I also have to heavily edit it, my vocabulary had found out about words such as ‘damn’, ‘shit’, and ‘fuck’ and I thought it was cool to use it a lot. I’ll take a pic of that notebook one day. it is a MESS. URL- http://ashenxheart.tumblr.com/
Kirara (Naruto)- A ninja with a demon that had an amazing voice, used songs to buff and debuff her allies and enemies.
Ezekiel (Final Fantasy IX)- the soul that became Zidane, he is the part of Zidane that craves the blood of Gaia’s Citizens. Can use a scythe made from blood and has Blood Wings......... I was just out of high school and very depressed XD
Riboruba (Final Fantasy VIII and Kingdom Hearts)- She is the personification of Squall’s/Leon’s Gunblade! Fun Fact: Riboruba is the Japanese pronunciation of Revolver, to which that is the style of Gunblade Squall has.
Category 6- Main Characters that are heavily AU-d
AU Abridged Yami Bakura (YGOTAS and Kingdom Hearts)- Yes... a parody character, which is it’s on AU in a way, in an AU where he is a keyblade wielder................................ tada! I made this with my good friend millennium-hearts at a con, and because of this blog we are practically family. URL- http://thiefxkeybladerxbakura.tumblr.com/ Possible AUTOPLAY WARNING
AU Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)- He is basically Sephiroth, but winning, the world is pretty much dying/almost dead, so like.... Worst Case Scenario/Apocalypse AU
AU Nylocke (TOME) I’m putting this here because this is the Nylocke that is apart of the Omega Timeline. Where Nylocke had a twin brother (Nye is Colin-based on tta Nai’s name, and Martin- because Martin Billaney), who died. He is also the world’s best hacker, even better than the main villain of the blog, which was revealed once, but never by name. URL with Omega.
Hao Asakura- This was semi-based on the manga and the anime mixing. the story the blog was based off of is actually still on Fanfiction.Net i named Angel of the Devil (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6203556/1/Angel-of-the-Devil) Feel free to read it! There are 9 chapters!
Glitchy Red (Pokemon Creepy Pasta)- He was based off of many different piecemeal creepy pastas (Lost Silver, Pokemon Black, Strangled Red, Glitchy Red, small stories about the candle instead of flash, but used in a house it would burn it down, and the rope inside would make you hang yourself). This blog got me into KORN.
Category 7- Muses on Blogs that belong there, but are not the main reason people went to said blog
Xirra (TTA)- She is a re-purposed character with a whole new look to fit into TOME, and I used her on Remorse for Mistakes
Darkeyes (TTA)- Much Like Xirra, but never got onto the blog much.
Demon Eyes Kyo (Demon Eyes Kyo)- I read this manga in the 6th grade... it is fucking bloody and gory, so don’t look it up if you are weak stomached. I used him as the Guardian Spirit of Hao on his blog instead of the Fire Spirit.
Beelzemon (Digimon)- I had him on a blog I have yet to mention, but you’ll see why I haven’t yet, that blog is in a category all of its own~
Keldeo (Pokemon) He made a brief appearance on Kirb/Zetto blog... Chris named him Vic........ because voiced by Vic......
Muses I’d love to make, but I finally have self control so I won’t make them
Infinite (Sonic Forces)- Because he is my super floof boy and I must PROTECC
Qrow Branwen (RWBY)- I must protecc the birb boi too
THE LUKA-POCALYPSE I have had a lot of Luka’s in my time RPing, and I loved the name so much, I use it as my online pseudonym now... now you will learn where I get it from!
Luka Crosszeria (Uraboku)- This was the man I fell for, he is extremely loyal and protective of the one he loves through every reincarnation they have, and will do anything, even betray his own kind for love. So in a way, I can relate. I want to do the same with my friends and family and girlfriend. This is the blog Beelzemon is on.  URL- http://crosszeriaxbetrayer-blog.tumblr.com/ AUTOPLAY WARNING
Luka Crosszeria (Final Fantasy XIV)- She is my character from my favorite and most played MMO. And while she no longer has a blog, she does have an instagram! URL- https://www.instagram.com/luka_of_eorzea/
Luka Cross (OC- No other affiliation)- She is a girl with the power to summon elementals. From fire and ice spirits, to even the goddess of the moon. Her goal is to gain the power of Elder Summoning. Aldo Omega is in this AU as the guardian of the Library of Summoners, and he is an Elder Summon.
Luka (TOME)- She is the little sister of Xirra. A different kind of virus, hers is a contact epidemic virus that spreads through touch. She has her hands covered at all times, and is very shy, but is almost second to none in hand to hand combat, being at least 30 time stronger than her just 4 foot stature would lead you to believe. she is also a lolita that wears extremely tall boots, and yet she is still very short... like just under 5 foot short. She also dates a giant dragon... and she sounds like Hinata from Naruto... she is an actual baby that is months old
[Review] Steep (PS4)
Tumblr media
I don’t have strong feelings about this game, but it was a chill time. Pretty cool. Ice. Temperatures below 273.15 K.
I have enjoyed snowboard games like Snowboard Kids DS, and Zelda: Twilight Princess, and extreme sports can make for good games. I remember Steep being heralded as a showcase of next-gen technology, albeit two years into the PS4′s life. It’s very impressive to have such a massive open world that you can zoom around so quickly, and the game looks quite nice.
Being in a perpetually snowbound landscape could get visually monotonous, but they do things like altering the lighting and time of day, and it does help checkpoint markers to stand out. The setting is the Alps, centred around Mont Blanc, and although I’m not sure how accurate it is to the real thing, it’s a stunning landscape densely packed with opportunities to do sick runs and tricks on your choice of conveyance.
Snowboarding is the main event, with skiing as an alternative. You can also do exciting glides on a wingsuit, or gain height with the fiddly paraglider or intense rocket wings. Walking is very slow but I guess that’s the point, and it’s easy to warp to events or points of interest. The DLC adds sleds and possibly more, as well as a ton of extra events; I didn’t invest in any of the large assortment on offer, as I’d had my fill from the base game.
I found it nice to get into the zone of boarding around. The events are varied, with races, trick score chases, daredevil stunts, etc. and even repeating tricky challenges was fun (to a point; I left maybe 10% of the hardest ones as they got too demanding for me). As you go you’re always discovering new hotspots and locations, and certain events are a bit more open-ended, about exploring or following another rider around. These were my favourite, and often were about emphasising the natural beauty of the place or the pure pursuit of personal thrills.
There’s another side to the game that I found obnoxious though. Steep leans  into real-world extreme sports culture, with heavy product placement of Red Bull between sponsored events, cosmetics, and even your character drinking it before certain runs. NPC characters who speak to you in VO are often laddish bros or yuppie types. The clothing menus are full of sleek, name-brand outfits and gear. The game also annoyingly pushes its DLC really hard on the player, which only pushed me away.
There’s a choice of a few characters to play as (there’s fewer women than men, I noticed...), mostly differentiated by their voice lines as you’re usually buried under cold-weather layers. I chose RInko Kitano as her scruffy, grungy default outfit seemed to cut against the clean, corporate apparel that dominates the selection. Winning events drip feeds you new cosmetics but very few fit her aesthetic, sadly.
Even after clearing the base game to my satisfaction, the somewhat finicky controls remained a slight sticking point. Ground-based turning and mid-air spinning being bound to the same motion often tripped me up—literally—causing bailouts, and I never did get the hang of operating the map without resetting my position, which caused problems with orienteering events.
The other odd thing about playing Steep at this point in time is that it was at one stage a “living game” with timed events and rewards and such. The tabs remain in the menu but the service is no longer updating, which is a little sad. And the very first thing the game tells you on launch is that there’s a new Ubisoft extreme sports game you should check out instead. Good grief! Talk about a noxious first impression. Anyway, as a big winter sports playground, Steep is a nice time; there’s just some rocky patches along the way.
I’ve finally done it. I’ve finished Assassins Creed: Origins. It took me so bloody long to finish it because I insisted on doing a lot of side content (and holy fuck there’s a lot of it) and the DLC’s. I finished the last DLC just today, and I feel like I’m done with this game. Much like with the Witcher 3 the game lasted long. But for some reason it didn’t feel like a sweet adventure that came to it’s end. AC: Origins is a good game, but it lacks something that makes it special. Perhaps the characters and the story?
Let me start off by saying that the first thing I noticed when playing this game was the movement. It’s so smooth and traversing the world feels good. Climbing on things feels good. The climbing and parkour mechanics are extremely simple, but they just feel real nice. Sometimes it gets wonky and Bayek just sits there without moving or he starts climbing over shit as I try to loot, but most of the time it feels buttery smooth. There’s a mountain in the way of your objective? Just climb over it, man. Much like in the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, but a bit faster.
The new combat is also mmmm, pretty good. The combat was really the only reason why I even gave this game a chance. I never cared for Assassins Creed before this game, because honestly, I thought the previous games looked dull. It’s pretty unfair to say that about a video game franchise with multiple entries, but I won’t sugarcoat my words. I genuinely do not care for the other games. I only ever played the first AC and it bored me to tears. Back to the combat, it’s obviously somewhat inspired by dark souls. They even use R1 and R2 for attacking. You don’t need to stealth in this game, although the stealth method makes fights easier. The combat also has a very satisfying feel to it and it’s just real fun to hack guys up, but there are things which I dislike. Enemies can stunlock you, as in if you get hit once an enemy can hit you multiple times without you being able to get out of the combo. You do the same to the enemies, but it still feels frustrating. I also fucking HATE the finishing moves. They’re always automatic when you kill the last enemy and while they look flashy they just waste your time. Because of this I killed most of my enemies with a bow or by setting them on fire, then you don’t need to watch those finishers.
The story and the characters? The story is very cliche and kinda boring. Bad guys get your son killed and you go on a revenge journey to kill everyone involved. Also something about a powerful relic that fucks with your mind. Deepest AC lore I assume. But Bayek? I loved him. Bayek was a really good character. He was a tough as nails intimidating warrior, but at the same time a fun loving softie. While he can get really angry and brutal he can also show a really light side, a joyous side. He’s a good man, and a man of honor. He wasn’t just some one dimensional angry dude on a revenge mission, just one really broken man seeking something. As for other characters? I didn’t really care for anyone else. Aya was cool I guess but not very interesting. I kinda liked that Greek poet? And the ginger guy from the last DLC was pretty cool, there was like one funny scene with him.
AC: Origins also tried it’s hands at boss battles. They were alright I guess? Nothing remarkable. I do like how they play around with some of the humanoid bosses. Like there’s one guy that does crazy teleporting thanks to the relic, and there’s this one guy with chain weapons that was cool. I like the ideas, but I wish they were executed a bit better.
There are also some things in the game that kinda bother me. One thing that I abhorred was the in-game shop. It’s true that the microtransactions aren’t intrusive, but that bloody shop locks up so many cool outfits and mounts behind it, and yes even weapons. Yes I know they can also be acquire in game, but guess through what? A fucking loot box. A loot box that you need to grind for and even then you have a slight chance to get some marketplace items. And there’s always a chance that you will get a duplicate, so the best bet is to either use real money or farm your ass off for that cool loot. In my 100+ hour playthourgh I got like 4 unique armors from buying the loot boxes. Some duplicate weapons and mounts too. They’re not intrusive, but they’re fucking bollocks either way. The outfits you can acquire in-game all look the same and aren’t anywhere near exciting or cool looking as the marketplace ones. Only in the last DLC you can find some unique looking armors within the game.
The games sidequests are also a bore. Yeah. Some of them are slightly intriguing, but most of them are just dull. Someone has a problem so you solve it by retrieving something or saving someone. The sidequests eventually start blending together and become a bore. At one point I was just doing them to check something off a list that was in my head. Same goes for a lot of the side stuff in the world. You just repeat a lot of the same shit. The only side activity that I always loved was tomb exploring, and that was because it was limited and interesting. It wasn’t plastered all over the map like those camps and treasure places. Although I did like taking out some of those camps. Surprisingly fun.
But you know what made the game for me? Curse of the Pharaos. I’m not joking when I say that this DLC is BETTER than the main game itself. It had everything I wanted from a game set in ancient egypt. Curses and cool looking Pharaoh bosses. I loved the designs of ALL the Pharaos and I loved exploring the four afterlives. Duat and the field of reeds were phenomenal. Exploring the Egyptian equivalent for afterlife was and amazing experience. The field of reeds was beautiful and dream like, while the Duat was magical like a fantasy world. The randomly appearing Pharao Shadows in the main world were really fun to deal with too and I just, ahhh, loved this DLC so much. It took the best parts of the main game, made them better and mixed it with new interesting ideas. This DLC gets a 10/10 from me, best content in the game.
How about the Hidden Ones DLC? Unremarkable. Pretty much the same as the main game. Didn’t care for the characters or the bad guys, and the story was so uninteresting that I can’t even remember it anymore.
So overall? AC: Origins is a pretty good game. It’s not exceptional, but it’s a lot of fun and has one of the coolest and most fun open worlds that I’ve played. Although there’s a lot of boring repetition, but still. Exploring ancient Egypt as a medjay was a blast. Is the game worth it? If you like a big open world games where you can get lost for hundreds of hours, it’s very much worth it. As an AC game? Can’t comment on that. But it’s the only AC game I actually like. I enjoyed the time I spent with this game this summer, so it gets a recommendation from me. I’d give it like a 7/10. It’s good, but could use a lot of improving. Now let’s hope Odyssey fixes these issues, eh? I doubt it. But at least I get to explore ancient Greece, my other dream video game setting.
1 2 and 9 please!
Okay, so my explanations for the Heroes and the Zeldas got really long, so I’m going to put the explanations under a cut in case anyone is interested in them, and just answer the questions short and sweet above it. :)
1.) Top 3 incarnations of Link?
In order:
The Hero of the Wild (Breath of the Wild)
The Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask)
The Hero of Winds (Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass)
2.) Top 3 incarnations of Zelda?
In order:
Princess Zelda (Breath of the Wild)
Tetra (Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass)
Zelda (Skyward Sword)
9.) Favourite Link design?
The Hero of the Wild, easily! Both in his standard outfit, and any number of the alternates we can dress him up in. ♥
And now, my explanations for my favorite incarnations of Link and Zelda are beneath the cut!
1.) Top 3 incarnations of Link?
In order:
The Hero of the Wild (Breath of the Wild) --- Words can’t really explain how much I came to love this kid over the 250 hours I spent with him while I played Breath of the Wild. Like every Hero, he’s meant to be something of a blank slate that we can imprint on, or create a personality for. So in that sense, you could say that maybe the reason why I love him so much is because I love the personality that I gave him. But even if that’s the case, it doesn’t change the fact that I do love him, and I love him a lot.I love the fact, first and foremost, that the Hero of the Wild is a determined survivor. He’s not only a survivor in that he was literally kept alive for one hundred years in the Shine of Resurrection, but that when he wakes up and goes out into the world with pretty much nothing, he’s able to find food, shelter, and weapons enough to keep himself alive. The Hero of the Wild can be given nothing but a stick and still manage to not only survive, but take down his foes, and that is some serious grit and determinaton. The Hero is always Determined; the Spirit of the Hero is an unbreakable spirit, an indomitable will. That determination is a trait shared by every Hero, but I feel it’s most exemplified in the Hero of the Wild.Beyond that, though, there’s so much else to love. I love that he loves food, and that he has just as much joy in cooking it as he does eating it. I love how dorky and cute he can be at times, but also how he can be snarky to those around him as well. I love how serious he is about his duty, but also how gentle he is with Zelda, and how he takes interest in her interests, even when she’s trying to get him to eat a frog. I love that he’s great with animals (dogs and horses alike!), but that he also understands the circle of life and does his best to be respectful with that understanding, as well. I love that he can be competitive and knows how to have fun, that he’s not infallible even though he’s the Hero. I love the complexity that makes him feel like he has to appear infallible, though, because he’s the Hero.Really, the Hero of the Wild is just easily my favorite Hero. I absolutely adore everything about him, design included, and I’m really glad that he’s the one in the upcoming Smash. It’s about time the Hero of Twilight was dethroned, for real.
The Hero of Time (Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask) --- Ahhh, the classic favorite. I loved the Hero of Time for a long time, and while part of that is absolutely due to how he was characterized by Rose Zemlya, a lot of it is also simply due to how much time I personally spent with him, particularly with regards to Majora’s Mask. The Hero of Time, from an abstract standpoint, has a lot of interesting concepts to me, most notably centered around his specific power. He is the Time Hero Victorious; the laws of time are his, and they will obey him. This is, again, most exemplified in Majora’s Mask; you can speed time up, slow it down, skip ahead, travel back. And I like to think about what that does to this Link, how he comes to view time in relation to himself. He hasn’t led a linear life, time-wise, and as such his maturity is all over the place. His mindset is all over the place. And this, I feel, is especially true when you consider that, thanks once again to Majora’s Mask, he also comes in the habit of accepting different souls and minds alongside his own thanks to the transformation masks. He houses the souls of the dead within him, and takes their forms, whenever he wears those masks. He becomes a god with the Fierce Deity’s Mask. And after all this, he’s supposed to go on and live a normal life? No wonder felt as though he had unfinished business in Twilight Princess; he never got to live a normal life.The Hero of Time’s story is one of tragedy, but it’s not entirely unhappy. He has Epona, and his friends here or there. He gets joy from helping others. But there is a lot of sadness there, and that’s interesting to me. The Hero of Time will always be interesting to me.
The Hero of Winds (Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass) --- And finally, this little twerp. The Hero of Winds is a great kid. He’s a sleepyhead who can sleep literally anywhere, given the start of Wind Waker, and he’s also very loyal to his family. He wears the Hero’s outfit despite how ugly he clearly thinks it is because he wants to make his grandma happy, and he’s such a protective big brother that he throws himself off a cliff in an attempt to save Aryll from the Helmaroc King. To that end, the entire purpose of his journey was to save his sister (at least at the start), and his impulsivity and hotheadedness can definitely set him apart from others. To that end, the Hero of Winds is very expressive (he wears every emotion written across his face), as well as friendly, outgoing, and meticulously explorative. He’s just a great kid. There’s a whole lot to love about the Hero of Winds.
2.) Top 3 incarnations of Zelda?
Once again, in order:
Princess Zelda (Breath of the Wild) --- Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to love Zelda as much as I do in BotW, but goodness, I love her. She’s so relatable; no, none of us have goddess power that we’re trying to unlock, but the desperation to do what others expect, and the anxiety and despair that comes with not being able to live up to the expectation . . . particularly with regards to her anxiety and her lack of self-worth, I feel that’s an extremely relatable part of her character. But again, that’s not all she is; she loves dogs and other animals. She’s adventurous. She’s witty, brave, smart, and flawed. She loves reading and learning, but she also loves being on the front and helping where she can. She’s very active, this Zelda; she knows that most want her tucked away where it’s safe, but she works herself to the bone trying to find ways in which she can contribute. She might not join in the fray, but she’s definitely a scholar and kicks ass in her own right. I was really, legitimately impressed by how well-rounded she ended up being.
Tetra (Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass) --- Tetra used to be my first fave, and honestly, she’s still really up there. I love this badass little pirate captain. Tetra commands the entire ship and despite how she was unfairly damseled (right at the start of Phantom Hourglass, even!), as well as the really unfortunate and awful whitewashing that occurs when she’s in her princess get-up, I really love everything about Tetra’s character, including and perhaps especially how sassy she is, and how she takes no shit from anyone. Tetra was the first Zelda to ever fight alongside Link in battle, and she not only aided him in the final fight, but even leaped through the window of the Forsaken Fortress to try to save him. Tetra is a complete badass and is wholly worthy of her title of captain. I love her.
Zelda (Skyward Sword) --- And last by not least, the Zelda (who is not a princess!) from Skyward Sword. Although she unfortunately spends pretty much the entire game damseled, this Zelda is nonetheless bold, brave, spunky, and has a strong sense of justice. I love the scenes where she’s playing around with Link (or having more tender moments wiht him), as well as the incredible strength she demonstrates in that she not only goes on her own journey across the surface world, but that she has the emotional fortitude necessary to follow through with Hylia’s plan to seal herself away until Link could defeat Demise. Zelda’s character was once again really well-written in this game, and I love her a lot.
FALLOUT OC QUESTIONNAIRE
I’m honestly so glad someone wrote me with questions about my OG/OC Fallout 4 character! I only have one playthrough because I feel like I’m cheating on my character when I make another one. Her name is Zelda Draper (goes by Draper) and she sided with the Railroad. She romanced Cait, MacCready, Hancock, and Gage (though she killed him), but I like to pretend she’s really married to Deacon.
2. Which faction(s) did they join and which did they destroy? Why?
Draper initially joined all the factions, but she ended up choosing the Railroad. After seeing how terrible humanity treated itself after the bombs fell, Draper had little faith in other people. She rather help innocent synths that were a creation of the same species that killed her family than “waste time” building up settlements.
4. Give us a summary of their backstory.
Draper was a double-agent who played both the Railroad and Institute. On one hand, she couldn’t imagine taking down her own son. Shaun was her entire life. She dreamed of building a family with Nate. But after the bombs fell, Draper couldn’t care less about the fate of humanity. She almost wanted the Commonwealth to suffer because of how bitter she was.
She found solace in both the Railroad’s mantra of saving innocent synths and her partner Deacon. The more missions Draper went on with him to help escaped synths, the more she was falling in love with the organization. Draper felt that the synths were being abused in the Institute, so when she found out her son was dying, it solidified her position that the Institute must be stopped before they looked for a new figurehead. She didn’t think the other scientists would give her the Director title without a fight.
5. What’s their full name and does it have a meaning? Do they have any nicknames and how did they get em?
Her name is Zelda Draper, but everyone calls her Draper (or Charmer, of course). Draper comes from an affluent family that avidly enjoyed the gossip surrounding the Fitzgeralds.
In reality, I found out Codsworth could say Draper and got super pumped. If it hadn’t had been for that aspect of the game, I would have simply called her Zelda. I thought you had to choose a name he could say (I was new to video games, give me a break!).
8. Do they have any medical conditions? Is medicine/ treatment available for them?
Draper is extremely healthy. Though she sometimes struggles with an on-and-off relationship with chems (especially Mentats and Buffout), overall she is perfectly normal.
EDIT: I’m adding this as an extra blurb. Draper is extremely mentally withdrawn. She obviously is suffering from PTSD after the trauma of losing her family and being thrown in to a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Instead of feeling anxiety, Draper is very detached from her emotions. This may be depression, or just a mental break. She actually joined the Children of Atom as a way to filter through her grief and animosity towards the nuclear fallout. She knows the fanatics are full of lies, but it makes her feel better treating the bomb as fate.
10. What do they fear the most?
Losing people who are close to them. Draper used to be warm and outgoing. When she lost Nate and Shaun, she refused to let her mental health slip any further. Draper rarely interacts with her settlers, or even the synths she saves. She keeps to her close companions, figuring if she has less of a chance of being hurt if she only has a handful of people to lose.
13. What Wasteland threat do they fear the most? (ex. Deathclaws, super mutants, raiders)
Draper hates running in to rouge Institute scientists or remnants of the Brotherhood. It reminds of her of the atrocities she’s committed to secure the Railroad’s success. She is also extremely uncomfortable by feral ghouls, especially because they remind her of what just a few more rads could do to Hancock.
20. Do they have any hobbies? What are they?
Draper loves collecting things from her travels. She has an entire shelf dedicated to trinkets. Among those are toy collectibles of different General Atomics robots and gifts her companions give her. MacCready’s wooden soldier sits proudly in the middle.
She also keeps a lot of clothing from her enemies. After freeing the slaves from Nuka World, Draper brought back all different sorts of garbs. For weeks all of Sanctuary was dressed as raiders. Preston didn’t appreciate the particularly pink and colorful outfit she saved just for him from The Pack.
24. Do they express their emotions freely or hide their true feelings?
She is stone fucking cold. The only emotion Draper lets you know she is feeling is annoyance. If she’s upset, Draper usually gets sarcastic. When she knows she’ll feel particularly upset about a certain mission, she wears duplicates of Deacon’s sunglasses. Draper raided the entire Institute wearing aviators so Shaun wouldn’t see her cry.
26. How do they come off to others? What first impression do they usually make?
Draper is a woman of many trades. It’s extremely hard to read how she’s feeling, especially because she’s always wearing shades and long, dark clothing. If you meet her through the Railroad (people like escaped synths or new agents), she is actually friendly. Draper tries to put her allies at ease, and doesn’t mind asking you about yourself.
If you meet Draper as regular Commonwealth folk, she is more reserved. She won’t be outright rude to you, but Draper likes to make sure you know she’s the most fearsome in the room. She’ll usually let her companion do most of the talking.
27. Do they prefer to travel alone or with company? Who have they traveled with if any? Current companion if any?
Surprisingly, Draper rarely travels alone. She has no problem being by herself, but bring along friends makes the time pass a little quicker. If she is visiting settlements or doing any positive work, Draper brings Nick or Hancock. Both of them are quick enough to keep the conversation interesting, and appreciate her helping other settlers.
In most other cases, Draper brings along Deacon or Cait. Her choices most align with causing a little trouble and not always doing the right thing. Neither of them seem to mind.
29. What do they find most attractive in others? Name at least one psychological and physical trait. (doesn’t have to be romantic attraction)
The best way to catch Draper’s attention is to have a sense of humor. She tends to be cynical, and anyone even more dramatic would bring both of them down. Quick wit and sarcasm will always catch her attention and gain her admiration.
Draper isn’t too picky about physical traits. However, she’ll never turn down a warm smile or bright eyes. It’s more about how confident you present yourself versus what you aesthetically look like.
31. What’s their love life like? Are they interested in anyone or in a relationship?
Draper had been in several relationships with companions before marrying Deacon. She was first involved with MacCready and even exchanged Nate’s wedding ring for his wooden soldier. Additionally, Draper wears his hat everywhere she goes. I mean, it’s a pretty great hat. She eventually had a fling with Hancock because their sense of humor is the most similar. He also didn’t judge her for her occasional stint with chems. Draper was briefly involved with Gage before destroying Nuka World. Luckily she didn’t physically kill him, it was Curie who shot him when he became hostile. Probably to spare her anguish.
Draper’s only bisexual experience has been with Cait. She had never been involved with women before the war, and hasn’t been with another woman since (though Piper often makes constant advances… I haven’t shut down her final affinity speech yet). It was only after securing Nuka World and going on a few more missions with Deacon that Draper realized she was in love with him.
43. What weapon(s) do they always carry with them?
Draper has heavily modified the Deliverer that Deacon gave her on their first mission together. She rarely uses it, but it’s always a sweet memento and she feels like he is with her when they’re apart.
Draper also always has some kind of radiation gun from the Children of Atom. Since joining the cult, it just feels natural to have something like that if she ever runs in to her brethren.
47. What’s their favorite radio station and song? (post-apocalypse)
You can’t beat the classics in Diamond City. She usually listens to “It’s All Over But The Crying” because that was the first song that played when she left the vault. It makes her think of her first day in the Commonwealth when she seemed to be the only one mourning an event that happened 200 years ago.
I JUST..... I JUST REALLY MISS MY OLD DIGIMON OC......
I don’t even know if anyone here would recognize her at all (other than maybe a certain Kari!) bUT..... well, this was actually my old Digimon OC, Hikaru! Many years back, I had one of those Digimon “FDD” (Fictional Digidestined & Digimon!) websites, and it was young me’s pride and joy, my first website that I made all on my own ;3;/ ;3;/ Complete with low quality graphics, comic sans ms, script based roleplays, and Digimon and anime midis galore! (A-ahaha.)
Although, back then I had pretty much zero ability when it came to actual art (I was always more of a writer, orz) and so her look ended up being basically “inspired” (read as: ripoff) of adult!Hikari but with a teenager look, and the story took a huuuge amount of “inspiration” (read as: tropes) from Sailor Moon too (also The Legend of Zelda), a-ahaha. OTL. Her Digimon (twin Digimon ala Wallace’s) were also obviously Chibimon/DemiVeemon recolors (DemiSilveemon and DemiGoldveemon, respectively. I didn’t even have to create an evolution for DemiGoldveemon because he’d basically become Goldveedramon, an actual Digimon!, while “Silveemon” became “Silveedramon”, a-ahaha. So original, I know.)
Regardless, they still have a very special place in my heart and I wish I had the energy to do a complete overhaul of her story nowadays (and actually finish it - I only ever managed to write through the second story arc out of like... eight-nine which was also to have a huge sprawling amount of story arcs after, which I had detailed in extremely lengthy “spoiler” summaries back then pffft - also, it was all to eventually tie into a story arc covering the epilogue and extending the story of that.) Unfortunately, my drive to do so has kind of dried up o-orz...
B-But now that I’m much older, I’m kinda sorta thinking about redesigning her at the least?? I’m super into Japanese fashion now (!!) and would really love to give her a redesign with like.... a very pretty classic styled one-piece, long A-line dress with a petticoat, maybe in a dusty pink color, with cute ruffles and embroidery, white sleeve cuffs?? and probably either neckties and/or (detachable, for look variety!) long sleeves. MAYBE SHE’D EVEN HAVE HER OWN HUGE WARDROBE OF VARIOUS ADORABLE DRESSES ALA CARDCAPTOR SAKURA/CLAMP it’s a nice thought anyway to at least redesign her main outfit in mind, even if I can’t create art for it, aha...!! ;3;/ (ALSO would change her hair color so it’d be less like Hikari’s [which was intended at the time for story purposes/tropes/etc.], though it was still a slightly darker brown - it’d probably be a bit more wavier/curlier too, and something like an even darker brown [deep brown?? nOT JUST BC OF MY OWN HAIR A-AHA....] (possibly also with bits of red through it!!)... at the time she was also created with no set eye color aside from (a darker) blue in mind; maaaybe she could have something like hazel eyes now? which could probably make up for that with the “color changing” hA ALSO SHE WAS MIXED/MULTIRACIAL/MULTIETHNIC ASIAN/JAPANESE-AMERICAN [+OTHERS] SO THERE WAS THAT YEAH!!)
Her Crest was actually the Crest of Faith, since I figured Jou’s Japanese crest’s name could also translate to “Honesty” (maybe even remain “Reliability” still, idek, which I thought was still perfect for Jou) and ‘Faith’ as a trait just held a very personal meaning to young me at the time ;3;/ (Basically never giving up, believing in yourself, etc.!! SHOUNEN/SHOUJO MOTIVATION) Though the image here didn’t quite portray the crest as I would have liked, I did want the imagery to involve a stylized crescent moon symbol and a star (probably now with it hanging outside of the moon somewhere though, not inside....), and the color to be dark pink (which would have also been the color of her D3) [it also had gold and silver buttons because of the two Digimon]. It’d be nice to try and re-design that too somehow ;3;/
All of the art here (sans #4, edited by young me a-aha) was made by request, and I’m to this day, forever grateful to the artists: Skye G. (#1 and the adorable emote!), Kari Avalon (#2), Tiara/Chiara (#3), Alana D. (#5-6), and Jennifer M. (#7)!! If any of you somehow happen to read this, thank you so much again (and for putting up with young me, o-orz)!! (I hope you’re all doing well today too....!!) ;A;/
Anyhow, a lot more rambling under the cut!
So yes, her story did lift a HUGE amount of “inspiration”/tropes from Sailor Moon, complete with the typical “Digimon Princess” theme and everything o-OTL. HOWEVER the more lengthier, sprawling story also had story arcs and tropes I still would have loved to explore in more detail - the 02 kids each had their own story arc where they’d receive their own personalized Crest traits (Iori’s was Wisdom, I can’t quite remember Miyako’s atm orz but she had one too [EDIT: MIYAKO was Loyalty, Iori’s was Wisdom!! Loyalty would fit Iori too maybe though aha?]; and of course, Daisuke got Miracles!) and their Digimon would all get to evolve into their own evolutionary lines.
The Adventure Chosen would eventually have their own arcs too; involving “Negative Crests”, evil clones, and actually the main villain of the entire fic was Alphamon - who wasn’t even featured in the main canon materials much at the time! (SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW MUCH I FLIPPED OUT WHEN HE WAS REVEALED AS THE MAIN VILLAIN FOR TRI, A-AHAHAH) Aaaanyway that arc would have dealt with each kid encountering their evil clone, being attacked by them/fighting them against the real kids’ wills, learning about them and their backstories, and the real kids’ Digimon would all finally evolve to Mega/Ultimate forms; the clones would have then been defeated after their corrupted virus type Digimon were destroyed, and after the clone children and their crests no longer being corrupted; them all dying peacefully to rejoin their Digimon in the Digital World afterlife. ;A; (.....I STILL GET LOTS OF FEELINGS THINKING ABOUT THE STORIES I HAD PLANNED FOR THEM ALL, SOMETIMES, I ADMIT, ESPECIALLY MY FAV KOUSHIRO’S BECAUSE LIKE. /NO MY HEART/ ALSO, THE DIGIMON WERE ALL TO BE ESPECIALLY AMAZING, ESPECIALLY TENTOMON + HIS CLONE BECAUSE LIKE. YES. NO??? HUMONGOUS CORRUPTED VIRUS TYPE ARMORED GIANT BUG PROTECTING CORRUPTED TINY CHILD AND ALL. Also, if you saw my previous post on Koushiro AUs (AKA: MOSTLY SUFFERING), the AU idea there about “Koushiro fully losing his curiosity” would have been detailed in that storyline, too [just in the place of the clone Koushiro, with the real Koushiro trying to help/save him.... but alas.......] ;3;/) (also the clone Koushiro may have not understood his own feelings and that he was hopelessly in love with the clone Taichi who didn’t know this at all until he found out at the very end; and who also died; yeah there was lots of drama/angst to be had)
As for the “Negative Crests”, basically, each Chosen would have had to fight against the darkness attempting to corrupt them and the Crests they had “lost” (which they’d then “regain”), with each cloned Chosen having the Negative Crests, like so: Taichi -> Fear Yamato -> Loneliness Sora -> Hate Koushiro -> Ignorance Mimi -> Lies (Impurity??) Jou -> Betrayal Takeru -> Despair Hikari -> Darkness [/that feeling when I actually finished Hikari’s arc along w/a Ken + Daisuke miniarc cries] (THE CLONE/DARK!JOU WAS ALSO V. EPIC AND BASICALLY BETRAYED ALPHAMON BY FINDING OUT ALPHAMON’S PLANS AND DESTROYING HIMSELF BEFORE ALPHAMON COULD FULLY CORRUPT HIM AND WIN, DARK!JOU AND ALSO JOU HIMSELF WERE SO EPIC, YOU GO JOUs !!!)
Also, being a kid at the time, of course I paired my OC with my other favorite character, of course (.....DAISUKE AHAHAHA) though young me was also very into slashfic and also not-so-subtlely hinted at underlying Tai//shiro storylines as well as not-to-be (orz) Ken//suke (mainly from Ken’s side; it’d then lead to the Ken//yako kids). All of it would have tied into the post-02 epilogue that basically explained “how the heck did all this happen and what do they and the epilogue kids do next??” AAAAND YEAH. (EVEN YOUNG ME LOVED TAI//SHIRO AND KEN//SUKE / DAI//KEN TO DEATH, OK, OK, YOUNG ME KNEW WHAT WAS UP)
Soooo I’m sure you can imagine how I feel now watching AND (MOSTLY) ENJOYING Tri and seeing other new interesting character(s) (Meiko!!) instead, ahahaha. ...Though now I’m also missing my old OC(s) and reflecting on all these old storylines I had (AMONG OTHERS), WHY THIS...... ;A;/ Ah well, it’s still nice to reminisce....!
(BY THE WAY, YOUNG ME ALSO NEVER SAID SO AT THE TIME, BUT THIS OC [AND COINCIDENTALLY ALSO DAISUKE] WAS DEFINITELY HEADCANONED TO BE SOMETHING LIKE BI/PAN/DEMI??...!! Hikaru as a character would have felt to her personally, purely looks or physical attraction was secondary - she would have probably believed in soulmates; developing a very strong emotional bond only with a person who loved and accepted her for who she was, and who she was the same for them. For my character, at the time, that was Daisuke...! H-Hahaha, though - she was also to have a backstory involving another (boy) OC she loved dearly, one who had disappeared (or: died/taken by the digital world) and she had to move on from (nOT.... HELPED BY ONE OF HER OWN DIGIMON DYING PERMANENTLY [the gold one], I’M STILL SUPER SAD I HAD TO KILL HIM OFF BUT IT WAS NECESSARY FOR THE STORY it was also a huge part of her character development and flaws including how she reacted to death/grief and would basically withdraw heavily into herself ALA KOUSHIRO AT HIS WORST.....); she would have then learnt to move on and found her personal true happiness & also her true love. So, at the time, that was Daisuke (despite the major Ken//suke undertones because it was [very] sadly not to be in that fic, o-orz - also Daisuke was a huge underdog/underappreciated within the fandom at the time (and also within OC fic which was near exclusively dub based), who was constantly bashing him for the dumbest of reasons jUST. WHY WAS FANDOM LIKE THAT-)
-- but back to Hikaru now, NOW....?? idek, maybe she’d find someone different and Daisuke would end up together with Ken?! WHOOOO KNOOOOOWS (MAYBE EVEN POLYSHIPS, THAT’D DEFINITELY WORK TOO, YES)
(ADDING A BIT MORE ABOUT HER PERSONALITY!!:) -quite mature as well as modest -secretly a huge computer geek that would also be very experienced at coding. This, of course, made Koushiro something like a senpai to her, and they’d often excitedly discuss computers/coding (along with Ken chiming in at times) while the rest of the Chosen would blank stare (hhhhhA) -despite this however she’d definitely not be on Koushiro nor Ken’s levels but she’d be on course to fast improvement with their guidance!! (also keep in mind this fic was originally written when I was a very young kid when girls who coded were acknowledged even less o-orz) -(ALSO SECRETLY A VERY ENTHUSIASTIC GAMER) (eventually, she’d come to hang out with Daisuke [+Taichi, Koushiro and Ken when they visited] to play games!) (the outcomes would often be: defeat Daisuke [repeatedly], defeat or draw with Taichi [to his dismay as well], be beaten by Koushiro and Ken [to which she’d vow to challenge herself to become better!]) -typically very optimistic/positive, kind/friendly, warm, welcoming, helpful, respectful etc., unlikely to have a mean bone in her body and basically extremely loving and supportive towards everyone -this would often put her at odds, however, with more competitive people or ruder people who weren’t as warm or welcoming; though she’d accept that being the case, she’d often be troubled that she did “something wrong” -speaking of being respectful, though she also wasn’t near Koushiro (or Iori) levels of “-san” respectfulness, she did use proper honorifics for everyone and often hesitated to change honorifics, even when prompted. (The older Chosen were a mix of “-san” [Yamato, Sora, Mimi until Mimi demands the use of “-chan” as per typical] and “-senpai” [Koushiro, Jou, and even Taichi, to his bemusement] mainly due to her having been intimidated to be new at the start, which is.... qUITE A LOT LIKE MEIKO’S NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT...) -despite her typical personality though she would stand up for herself and her friends as needed, especially in the face of evil/darkness -though very friendly, much more of an introvert than an actual extrovert; she’d rather stay inside unless invited out by the others (who would often have to insist she join them) -had some initial regrets about moving from America, even though things were harder for her there (where it was even harder for her to fit in) and it was necessary for her parents’ jobs, it was still her original home, so she holds her childhood close. -becomes chosen to be a Chosen Child due to her initial involvement with Digimon involving the OC who was “taken” by the Digital World (though she wouldn’t learn this was the reason or understand how/why it happened until later) -her story arc would essentially revolve around her learning to pick herself back up after grief and helping to save everything
(ALSO A BIT MORE ABOUT THE DIGIMON): -DemiSilveemon/Silveemon was more like Hikaru herself; though with a more eternally optimistic/supportive personality; though also somewhat more naive and silly, also with a short temper when something (DemiGoldveemon) irritated her. But when things would get tough, she’d always know the right thing to do \o/ -DemiGoldveemon/Goldveemon was much more extroverted / hyper / exciteable and super energetic/even more supportive!! ...though he was also the troublemaker, often getting into mischief and causing headaches for Hikaru and DemiSilveemon. However, when he’d have to put playing aside and defend his friends, he’d become extremely cool and awesome...!! ;A;/ (Later on, he’d also reappear briefly in spirit form to remind Hikaru and Silveemon to not give up \o/)
ALSO:
(TAI//SHIRO WOULD ALSO DEF. HAPPEN SECOND TIME AROUND NOT SORRY) (SHE’D BE ONE OF THEIR #1 SUPPORTERS TOO ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER CHOSEN AND THE PARENTS OK? OK!!!) \o/
SO THERE YOU HAVE IT MY VERY SHAMEFUL DIGIMON FANDOM HISTORY AND OC HISTORY, NOW I WILL EXCUSE MYSELF TO HIDE UNDER A ROCK !!!!!
