If you choose to take the diamond scene with Aerin near the lake, he says that it's the first time he's been able to be himself in a while. In context, it seems like he's talking about being free of his royal responsibilities. But what if he isn't?

The conversation is happening near a lake with incredible magical power. The Light is so strong there, in fact, that it's preserved in the middle of Deadwood for thousands years and even became a haven for all sorts of magical plants and creatures.

So what if the lake is affecting Aerin as well? What if being himself means being free from the influence of the Shadow Court?

Fast forward to the next time we meet Aerin in Whitetower.

MC mentions that Aerin seems different now. Which is when I ask, why would he be different though? Because having the full context, we know Aerin has been under the Court's influence for years. Nothing changed in that regard since the Deadwood, right?

Except for the Light's influence near the lake. The unicorn scene makes sense in this context too. Logically, Aerin shouldn't risk exposing his powers to save the unicorn, and he knows it. But he acts on pure impulse. We know the lake's Light couldn't heal him fully, but what if it was enough to lift the Shadow's influence from him just a little? Enough for his human side to come to the foreground?

unpopular opinion: honestly i don't know why people take him trying to kill poppyfrost as like an end all thing to saying hes a bad character and not someone you should "side with" over crowfeather. like, i do know why but like this is the murder cat book. most of them kill. the book acts like its both scary and epic. like why are you mocking shadowclan and calling them stupid for mourning russetfur's death at lionblaze's hand after thunderclan invaded them and also clutching your pearls over this? when is it ok to kill in this society? and its also an outlandish action not grounded in reality, while crow's neglect hits closer to home. also breeze is a villain at that point lol hes supposed to do fucked up shit while crow's neglect is painted as misunderstood and uwu sad for him at the end of the day. so yeah i do think its fucked that he did that, but at the same time yeah im not gonna "side with crowfeather" and say he deserved the neglect over it. wtf

Even if i like the ending a little, i can absolutely see how it was disappointing. Like, i sat through 37 chapters of a man being tortured and raped, a suicide attempt, i watched him come to terms with his previous bad decisions, go on the very starting road of recovery.... only for him to actually choose to go back to his abuser.... nuts!!!

Wookyung is such a funny character tho, hes capricious and spoiled, this nearly 30yo man has no idea how to properly treat people he loves, he couldnt even keep his own word that hed wait for minho, he wanted what he wanted and now.... and he got it!!! No growth there, unless you count him standing up to his pos mother (i dont lol), but he stayed the same and didnt learn or repent nearly enough to make up for his actions.

Overall, this story wasnt about love or about growth, its about them being miserable together lol nothing has changed and nothing will, theres no lesson
