(warning: literary analysis ahead) i know i'm not the first person by far to say this, but there are so many similarities between kaz and wylan in six of crows and ESPECIALLY crooked kingdom.

there's obviously the big one of both of them having a re-birth type experience in the harbor, but that's not where the similarity stops. during my ck reread, i noticed that the reason kaz and wylan are in the harbor in the first place is because a father-like figure.

pekka rollins was a father-like figure to both kaz and jordie, and the book says this. the rietveld boys had just lost their father, and one of the big reasons pekka was able to scam jordie and kaz so well is because he provided them with a comforting and parental like space. kaz ofc eventually ends up in the harbor, and it can all be traced back to pekka rollins.

wylan has his rebirth in the harbor due to his father. the connection is more direct with his, but even then there are middle men and other things involved. but again, it can all be traced back to his father.

going off this thought, they both lost a close family member due to a father figure.

another big similarity i found that i feel like i haven't seen anyone talk about his what kaz and wylan are both motivated by: revenge.

wylan does not start off the books being motivated by revenge. he ends up in the barrel and with the crows out of a desperation to both hide from his father and because he genuinely has no where else to go. later on in ck, after wylan finds his mother at saint hilde, the book very clearly states that his motivation changes. at the begining of chapter 31, there's a scene where wylan is staring at himself in the mirror. there are lines that say, "What am I doing here? But he knew the answer. Only he could see his father punished for what he'd done. Only he could see his mother freed." which drives me INSANE!! because it's a DIRECT PARELLEL to things kaz says/feels about jordie!! in the chapter right before that (30) there's a line that says, "He'd found his way to shore, devoted himself to the vengeance he and his brother were owed." (there are other and better lines that reference wylan's "only he could *take revenge*" line, but this is just the closest one that comes to mind)

there are differences between their motives—you could say that kaz's revenge motive is more direct and violent—but there's also the fact that we see both kaz and wylan get their revenge in the book.

both kaz and wylan want revenge for one of their family members, and themselves, from what a father figure in their life has done.

they've also both been kidnapped by jan/held in captivity by him. i know this happens to inej too, but i think it's important that one of the first scenes we see with kaz is him negotiating with jan after being captured by him, and then towards the very end of the series, we (very simplified and on the surface) see the same thing happening to wylan. i know the two jan captivity scenes with kaz and wylan are very different, but i think the basic similarity of these scenes really attest to how far wylan has come and how much he's been assimilated into the crows.

there's also of course the part where wylan's expression is said to be something that looks kaz-like, which i feel also shows how far he's come and how he's truely developed into a crow.

in conclusion, as others have said, they truely are two sides of the same coin. they're so different but so alike, and i absolutely love how leigh bardugo was able to directly juxstapose wylan and kaz when they're so different on the surface.

I can't get enough of the Brother/uncle Kaz headcannons. So here r some more.

But this time, it's about Kaz third wheeling Elijah Rollins (Adjala's lover aka my oc) and Adjala (Kaz's sistet aka my oc).

1. Kaz, the Eternal Third Wheel: Kaz often finds himself unintentionally third-wheeling when spending time with Adjala and Elijah. Whether it's a romantic dinner or a simple walk in the park, he somehow manages to always be there, lurking in the shadows.

2. Awkward Interruptions: Kaz has a knack for walking in at the most inopportune moments. Whenever Adjala and Elijah share a tender moment, steal a kiss or are making out, Kaz's impeccable timing ensures that he witnesses it all. His reaction? A dramatic sigh and an eye roll or cursing on his way out.

3. Secretly Ships Them: Despite his gruff exterior, Kaz secretly ships Adjala and Elijah and can't help but playfully tease them about their affectionate moments. He might toss a coin their way and quip, "Buy yourselves a room, you two."

4. Reluctant Babysitter: Whenever Adjala and Elijah need a break from their parental duties, they know they can count on Kaz to babysit Jordan, Johannes and Kaz jr. Kaz's (aka the og) tough love approach makes for some amusing stories of the kids outsmarting him.

5. Inadvertent Matchmaker: Kaz unintentionally becomes a matchmaker for the couple. He might arrange "accidental" encounters or conveniently forget to mention that the other is coming over, leading to amusing situations.

6. Kaz's Relationship Advice: Kaz occasionally offers unsolicited relationship advice to Adjala and Elijah, which they usually find amusing. His advice often involves strategies for heists and scams, much to their amusement.

7. The Mournful Violin (ft. Nina's singing, Jesper's horrible violin skills and Matthias' bleeding eardrums): Jesper once jokingly complained that his violin playing and Nina's singing duet was so horrifying that it drove couples apart. And Matthias could barely hear anything over their duet, so Kaz had him learn to play harmonica horribly. Now, whenever Adjala and Elijah go out in a romantic date on the roof of the Slat, Kaz will have Jesper dramatically pull out his violin and play a mournful tune, dramatically out of key, and have Nina duet to it, while Matthias plays the harmonica horribly in the background, always causing Adjala to face palm and Elijah to stuff tissues into his ears. *They carry around ear plugs now*. (rip Matty and Elijah's ear drums xoxo)

8. Impromptu Counselling (ft. Therapist Wylan) : Kaz occasionally finds himself in the role of an impromptu couples' counselor, alongside wylan, always listening to their relationship woes and offering his unique perspective on love and loyalty.

9. Kaz's "I Told You So" Moments: When disagreements arise between Adjala and Elijah, Kaz is always ready with an "I told you so" or "You should have listened to me." It's all in good fun, of course. (Except for that one time Elijah got Adjala pregnant)

10. The mom friend (ft. Inej) : Kaz embraces his role as the mom friend of the family (taught by urs truly Inej ofc), offering a different perspective on life and love. He might say, "You two enjoy your domestic bliss; I'll be out here in the shadows, counting my crows." And he jokes be grudgingly so that inej laughs.

I was just thinking how a Ketterdam and Gotham crossover/mashup has so many possibilities! I haven't really seen much tho so here are some thoughts.

I picture it as slightly more Gotham, set in the modern (ish) world but also having the political systems and gangs of the Barrel mixed in. The grisha would still have the categories of powers that they do in the grishaverse but less organized, basically considered a subset of meta (my head is currently full of stress so sorry for any and all lore mistakes I make!).

So there's beginning SoC Kaz with the Crows and he hears right away when there's a certain up an coming crime lord in town. Kaz wants to get his revenge on Pekka Rollins but there's the issue of his debt and how many gang leaders don't take him seriously because he's young and walks with a cane. After gathering more info and concocting some convoluted plan that has 43 steps and 15 backups he meets with the Red Hood to see if they can come to a mutually beneficial agreement as Kaz has tabs on pretty much everything in Ketterdam and all the political gang stuff that goes on. He also has PLANS that I'm pretty sure Jason would disrupt and Kaz is gonna do his best to integrate him into those plans while also maybe helping direct him in what he should be doing for optimal takeover.

Like if Kaz has the firepower of the Red Hood to add to his plans? Absolutely terrifying. Ofc there would be interpersonal conflict but that's like half the fun, the character dynamics possibilities are endless! I was thinking that the generally fanon accepted rules that Jason has (I'm more familiar with SoC canon and am more fuzzy on dc details so apologies) like regulating the drug trade, protecting sex workers, etc and strict enforcement of those rules are all things that Kaz wouldn't mind AND if Jason took down Tante Heleen's Menagerie? That would be a great scene for after everyone has started working together and taking over, maybe Jason doesn't know Inej's history but he can probably guess and offers to torture Tante Heleen for her (do I hate Heleen? Yes I do) wether or not he does Tante Heleen won't be conducting her business ever again.

I think that Kaz could definitely spruce up Jason's ten step revenge plot but how idk. For real tho, Kaz's lack of experience is one of the few things holding him back, when he's older? Even just late twenties, it'll be over for everyone lol.

The Barrel seems Crime Alley adjacent so those can be smashed together (would that make Kaz from Metropolis?? Lol but nah probably some farming state)

Omg what if Dick is Inej's brother? Doesn't really fit I think but just an idea. That'd be so freaking sad tho, she's gonna search for her parents and not know they're dead :(

Batman does batman stuff I guess, I didn't really care about him when I was thinking of this crossover but there could be interesting ideas for him. I feel like there's so much going on in Ketterdam/Gotham (Gothdam?lol) that he'd be run ragged and honestly I'd understand him barely putting even a dent in crime there. I'd still have Duke be a meta as opposed to a grisha mostly bc he's closest to a sun summoner and I'm not a fan of the Shadow and Bone books. Damian should definitely have his metal spine, maybe he's a Fabrikator or got that spine put in by one. Steph might be on the very fringes of Crows activity, I really like when her and Jason are besties in fics bc I feel like they have the least amount of baggage/history and have similar backgrounds so its easier if u want to ease him into the batfam one person at a time. Not that I've decided if that's what's happening here but anyways. I'll have more later, ttfn and please take any of this and run with it! Imma tag this thing Gothdam au.

I've written two kanej fics (one where kaz buys a house for Captain ghafa freer of slaves reaper of men) (and another which is a follow up of chapter 44 with kaz meeting inej's parents) especially proud of those too cuz pandu says i write kaz's pov like it's straight out of the book and then two wesper fics (i would like to not talk about one of them it was a silly dare it's like wylan is slorny (im not gonna elaborate) and aaaaa its a suggestive fluff bye) (and other is a poem i wrote about wylan and his struggles with dyslexia yk the one pandu sent you)

And as soon as my exams are over im gonna write a 70k+ modern au where they recreate the ice court heist except it's just them breaking into their enemy school Fjerda High to steal their mascot costume before a big event (they end up stealing the student inside it too)

okay all of these around so good. I NEED TO READ THE CHAPTER 44 WALA i trust pandu with my life so I'll trust her with these too ofc but also again i already know you must've written great. I'll read them once college allows me to have a clear head

NOW FOR A RAMBLE

so the thing I'm really excited for about this superhero au is that it'll be super fun to translate the canon characters over. and y'all know I love digging deep into aus and making everything overly complicated

first of all, what kind of superheroes are they gonna be?? I'm thinking something like robin hood-type vigilantes that target the rich and corrupt and protect the innocent. I think that's the closest to their canon personalities, where they actively target the people like van eck, pekka rollins, and tante heleen, and keep them from harming anyone else. it's a bit more hopeful and heroic than how they are in the books (mostly kaz) but I think it works with the superhero genre and the changes I'm making to their backstories <3 and it's a modern au, so that'll also have a factor! (I also want to see kaz scheme his way around cameras and security systems <333 I think that'll be fun to mess with)

first we're gonna talk about kaz!!! his power is touch-based healing. because the symbolism there gripped me and wouldn't let me go. his backstory is pretty similar to canon, except he tried to heal jordie several times, but since kaz himself was sick, he was unable to. the last time he tried to heal his brother was in the harbor when jordie was already dead. kaz started out as a vigilante targeting pekka rollins, but after inej and the others came into the mix, he slowly developed into a hero rather than a vigilante. because he realized that if his friends could give him hope, maybe he could do the same to the city that both destroyed and created him. and I don't know plot details yet but I want there to be a scene where jesper is fatally wounded, like actively bleeding out during a mission, and wylan and everyone are panicking because there's too much blood and not enough time, but then kaz shoves wylan aside, tears off his gloves, and activates his powers for the first time since jordie. but this time it works and jesper's eyes open and he cracks a joke and nina immediately punches him in the shoulder for scaring the hell out of her

now inej!!!! she has a shadow-based power. I haven't decided if she can travel through shadows or just control them. maybe both. but in any case her powers help her be stealthy and scary because you just Don't Know where she's gonna be. her hero name is Wraith <333 her backstory is also fairly similar, with the kidnapping, trafficking, and sexual abuse and enslavement to tante heleen. the key difference here is that instead of joining a gang upon being rescued, she becomes a superhero. and inej is a vigilante targeting those in power just like kaz, but she's also specifically trying to protect people, too. she specifically targets human traffickers, but is still bound to kaz because she doesn't know where else to go since she doesn't want her parents to see her after everything she was forced to do. but then. she helps her friends defeat van eck, and then she realizes that she can do so much more as a hero if she isn't based just in a single city. so she becomes a traveling hero who tracks trafficking rings around the world and systematically dismantles them, one by one

matthias has a spiritual connection to trassel and they fight side by side as a cohesive unit. he started out as a police officer (bleh) who was aiming to take the vigilantes down but after being stranded with one of them (nina ofc) he started leaning more toward their point of view. and he doesn't die because trassel saves him <33 no dead characters here

nina can see/talk to dead people! kinda like klaus from umbrella academy.

the sound of his cane on the floor of the slat is soothing to her nerves. her world is upside down and will never feel right till she's reunited with her parents, but for a moment...it does when its raining and she hears his shoe scuff on the step as it falls in line with the slight thud of his cane.

she has had the vivid fantasy of throwing him against the wall when she's infuriated with him, blade pressed to his throat before letting it clatter to the ground and kissing him. but its only for a moment in the brief flash of anger in her eyes before still following his orders and she prays to the saints that he doesn't see as much.

inej uses the crows outside of kaz's office as an excuse to come sit at the window sill and she regularly feeds them so she can linger. she's sure he has figured as much out by the fact that the threadbare cushion being changed out to something softer and more sturdy.

MODERN: Inej refuses to let Kaz prepare the dogs' food. She makes it from scratch after lots of research and doesn't trust him in the kitchen and also worries he's going to give in to their begging for more food because the dogs are gluttons.

SLAMS MY BINDER OF NOTES DOWN. im jk but i have thought about this!!! ofc general statement and preface that this is (mostly) uninfluenced by the other pjo verses i've seen floating around for the crows and me having a different idea to someone else doesn't mean that i think it's bad for anything. this is just what i think!

i will say that while i play jesper as a son of hermes, i could also absolutely see him as the son of hephaestus, dionysus, or even apollo. i was flipping between all four before i settled on hermes because of jesper's other skills.

kaz is son of nemesis in my brain! i feel like. that's pretty self-explanatory considering kaz's character, considering his transactional view of the world and his focus on revenge. alternatively i also think demeter because a) it'd be funny b) he grew up on a farm

inej is daughter of athena i think... i do also think that she probably caught the eyes of the hunter of artemis for being scouted but overall i think that she's an athena kid.

wylan is ABSOLUTELY an apollo kid... like there's no way that he's not. the music themes, the associations with light/sun, etc. also this means that his piece of shit father isn't actually his biological father thank GOD. i hope van eck goes up in a plume of fire <3 also apollo is the god of medicine and while wylan isn't too heavily in this field he does know a lot about chemistry which. maybe can be considered as apart of the medicine field mayhaps idk

nina is aphrodite's daughter. there's no fucking way you can convince me that she's another god's kid. she's aphrodite. the red themeing, the associations with the heart/body, focusing on pleasure and delight. she can tailor people's appearances a little bit AND she's a sweet-talker. like. she's the perfect candidate for being an aphrodite kid

matthias is kinda hard for me because i THINK that ares fits for him in six of crows considering his association with grief and anger, but i think posideon fits more for the second book. i would probably settle on son of mars for his focus on militant strategies and more discipline otherwise. there's also the fact that he's like. nordic-coded and while i do not know much about the nordic gods bc i didn't enjoy magnus chase too much. possibly the son of tyr then!

also kuwei I THINK.... due to his focus with fire he should be the son of hephaestus but i don't think that necessarily works for him? like the Vibes... i guess he'd technically be in there. i can also see a little bit of son of athena for him!

The relationship Inej shares with her parents is so, so important to me. Not many YA books talk of the beauty of acceptance and support from a family and celebrates that love, which Inej’s parents do, for each other and their children. That’s just one reason though; found family is just as celebratory. 

More than that, Inej as a Suli girl, who is brown and an acrobat, severs many lines of linear and stereotypical thinking. Often brown cultures, with regard to parenting across continents, are thought of as very narrow or close minded, toxic, abusive, neglectful, overbearing etc. and the blame is so heavily put on the fact that these families are brown. People from these families are not held responsible; their brownness is held responsible. The cultures are used to justify that, as if such trauma were a commonplace experience in these families. If people of other cultures themselves can so plainly mention it and say parenting is just like that if people hail from these communities, imagine how much this line of thought is ingrained into children from within these cultures.

Walking into the book, I was half expecting the painful, far from her family or consistent disagreements that Inej might have seen or been subjected to. This comes in addition to the fact that YA books often loosely mention families, rarely address the impact they have on children. 

So the enormous joy of seeing such a healthy relationship between Inej’s parents, of such understanding and warmth between the morals, values and wisdom Inej holds with significance and the sort of respect she has for her parents is so deeply important to me. Not just because it breaks the aforementioned perspective, but also because it reinforces a positive influence and importance that families can have on characters. Something that YA books tend to not explore enough. It also implores you to think about healthy, established relationships and how else you could view them, no matter how minimal information canon provides about that.

nina and matthias would definitely have kids. (or, would’ve :/ )they’d have at least two, maybe more, and matthias would be such an awkward/panic dad (at first). i feel like nina would be like “psht, this is gonna be a breeze”, and whenever matthias doesn’t know what do to or how to handle them, nina teases him but couldn’t be happier bc she knows he’s a great dad (and she’s just as panicked as he is but tries to hide it bc she has to be the cool parent. matthias totally sees through her act but doesn’t tell her)

i don’t think kaz and inej would have kids. they’re perfectly happy with just the two of them as a family but if they were to have a child, it would be some kid that kaz found on the street that reminded him of himself when he was younger (alone with no family), and they would adopt them. inej would train them to be light on their feet to sneak up on kaz, and even though he can always sense them (like he can with inej) he pretends to be surprised every time. (if they were still a baby/too young to know their name they would also name them after jordie. and their nickname would be little spider)

wesper-

they wouldn’t really want/care for children at first, but one day jespers like “wylan i want one”, they’d talk about it, and decide to adopt a kid (maybe another later on). jesper would teach them how to shoot/use a gun (at a concerningly young age) and wylan would freak out telling him how dangerous it is, and jesper laughs it off (ofc he’s always careful when teaching them, and he occasionally manipulates the bullet to hit the target if they miss). wylan would teach them how to play the flute and the piano, and they always sing as a family in the living room- wylan and one of their kids playing piano, and jesper dancing with their other kid standing on his feet. they also have regular games of tag/hide and seek in the mansion

it’s one of my favourite fics ever i would marry it if i could

it’s a kanej fic but there’s actually a plot as well, and when i tell you the plot is ✨flawless ✨. so far, it’s 400k words long and i haven’t been bored of the plot once. AND if you do get bored (weirdo) the fic is split into ‘seasons’ and around every 20 chapters there is a clear stopping point. i recommend reading the whole thing because it is actually a piece of art. i want to hang it on my wall. i want to paint the words on every building, i want to stick the quotes on my forehead.

it starts pretty much straight after Crooked Kingdom, which to me is perfect because i never want CK to end (leigh you ruined my life) and the kanej development throughout......*chiefs kiss*

IT’S EXACTLY HOW I IMAGINED THEIR RELATIONSHIP

IT’S NOT RUSHED AND IT STAYS TRUE TO THE BOOKS IN THAT SENSE AND AHHAUFJKDSBFSKL IT’S SO PERFECT PLS JUST READ IT

and ofc there’s wesper and characters from SOC but it is mainly focussed on inej and kaz. also the POV switches between them so you get the best of both worlds!!!!!!!! you also get to meet inej’s parents and......i want them to adopt me

the ratio of angst : fluff is PERFECT, the amount of times i’ve cried because of this fic is unreal i can’t lie. BUT it’s also made me laugh. out loud. at 2:00AM. i’ve had to cover my face with my pillow because i was laughing too hard (same with the crying but we don’t talk about that). 

bare in mind i started reading it when there was around 80 chapters (there’s 108 currently) and 300k words, I READ IT IN 3 DAYS

it’s so good omfg

it isn’t finished yet (thank god i couldn’t cope if it ends soon) but the updates are pretty regular and consistent and literally no chapter disappoints.

for those of you who have read demon in the woods, he got to meet the white tigers :)

he likes bright colours, but wears black all the time basically for the aesthetic

he met his younger half-sister, Ulla, when he was a seer’s apprentice in Fjerda 

the darkling is a musician! He plays the fiddle, and growing up, he played the balalaika and oud (i wonder if he can read tablature,,)

⚠ Warning ⚠ Long Post.

WESPER

• Since their anniversary as an official couple is coming up soon, Wylan decides to propose.

• But he realizes planning isn't exactly his best forte and seeks help from none other than Ketterdam's best schemer Dirtyhands himself.

• Kaz is flattered but even he is weak when it comes to the matter of hearts. He still agrees though, provided Wylan invests a bit in his newly brought club around the Lid. Wylan agrees.

• So Kaz simply asks Wylan to bring Jesper with him to the Fifth Harbour on the day of the event. Wylan is suspicious but he agrees in the end.

• Wylan manages to keep Jesper busy by portraying as a model for Marya's next painting, just so he can go out and pick a ring.

• When the day arrives, Wylan asks Jesper to meet him at the Fifth Harbour by 6 bells.

• Jesper being bad at dates doesn't remember if its because of some special occasion. So he decides to keep it safe and buys a bottle of expensive alcohol.

• When Wylan and Jesper arrive on time, they're both too shocked to speak, their mouths wide open.

• Kaz being Kaz has got the whole harbour decorated in traditional Kerch and Zemeni colors for the duo. There's fairy lights hanging all over, varying cuisines that Jesper has never seen in his life before and a band hired to play throughout the night.

• As they walk in, they spot Nina speaking with Colm Fahey who got invited earlier on by Kaz and Inej gave the man a lift on her Wraith as she herself didn't want to miss two of her favorite people's proposal.

• Jesper is slightly worried because of his father's presence, even more worried because he believes today's supposed to be some big event that only he can't seem to remember.

• Matthias is standing with a Priest and he comes over to congratulate Wylan & Jesper.

• The pair is very confused and so Matthias quirks his brows and tells them: "Brekker said you're getting married."

• The bottle of alcohol in Jesper's hand drops and Wylan is stuttering, unable to form coherent words. He finally yells: "This isn't what I asked Kaz!"

• Kaz finally shows up, Inej at his side. Everyone's staring at him and he shrugs. "What? Too much."

• After a few minutes of yelling and chaos between their squad, the situation is finally calmed down.

• Wylan rummages out the ring from his pocket— a golden band with their initials 'W+J' engraved in it along with intricate patterns. He looks at Jesper. "So amongst all this extravaganza, if I tell you that I want you to adore my stupid face for the rest of our lives, will you?"

• Jesper is wide eyed and has that kinda dubious expression because Wylan has managed to surprise him yet again. So he just tries to collect himself and goes, "Ofc! I already told you I like your stupid face."

• They hug and kiss and everyone cheers. Nina proposes an after-party with waffles.

• Kaz suggests they could still get married cause we know he's secretly the biggest Wesper shipper xD

Thankfully Inej drags him away.

• The actual wedding takes place a month later and yes, Kaz is the wedding planner. Kuwei is that uninvited guest..:)

HELNIK

• Nina keeps joking about wanting Matthias to propose. But she doesn't realise all her meaningless teasing has actually spurred him into action.

• He's secretly making plans and has only told Inej and Wylan about this because he knows Jesper will end up babbling. And Kaz is the last person he wants to take help from.

• He needs a place and proper timing. Inej takes up that task on herself and somehow convinces Kaz to let them use The Crow Club for just one evening.

• Wylan helps Matthias in purchasing a custom ring with a heart-shaped ruby. With his newly acquired mercher title, Wylan’s got connections with the best jewelers in Ketterdam. Marya also tags along cause she believes they'll need a woman's opinion on this.

• So on the day of the event, when Nina is coaxed into wearing the best replica of a Ravkan Kefta and brought into the Crow Club by Inej, she's excited but also wondering whats up.

• Wylan is playing some romantic melody on his flute.

• The whole club is lit by candles and as the members of Dregs part slowly, at the end is Matthias in replica of traditional Fjerdan garbs (another courtesy of Kaz).

• Nina's eyes keep growing wider and she's at a loss of words when Matthias bends on one knee. "Nina Zenik, will you be the beguiling Drusje to this mighty Fjerdan till the end of time?"

• There's tears in her eyes and she looks around everyone. Wylan is smiling, Inej gives a nod, Jesper gives a thumbs up and winks, even Kaz's eyes flash somewhat in approval.

• She looks back to the brave blond soldier she fell for. He must've planned for them to be unified in their own lands' traditional clothes. She smiles, already tearing up. "Saints Matthias, I'm supposed to be the one full of surprises." She messily wipes her eyes and mumbles, "I..will."

• The whole Dregs break into a roar of cheers as Matthias glides the ring on her finger. Marya is clapping her hands in joy.

• Rotty yells from somewhere in the crowd, "KISS HER YOU PODGE!!!" And Matthias tilts his face down. The newly engaged couple share a passionate kiss.

• Their wedding takes place in a Ravkan forest. King Nikolai himself decides to give his blessings (in disguise ofc). Zoya and Genya are there too.

KANEJ

• It will be super vague. Like Kaz and Inej's relationship is built more on silent gazes and fleeting touches. So they've got this unspoken thing going on. They both know they're each-other's but never actually address it.

• Inej has returned from another of her sea adventures and taking a short break in Ketterdam. She's casually sitting by Kaz's window, feeding the crows while he works on his papers.

• He glances at her, mesmerized by the sight of her glowing skin in the evening sun. Her long hair (free for once) sways due to the wind as she peacefully smiles and looks out at the city.

• He just speaks out of nowhere, "Inej?"

She turns her head and looks at him, the smile never leaving her face. "Yes Kaz?"

"Do you want to tie the knot?" he asks.

The smile immediately leaves her face and she frowns, unsure about his words. "I'm afraid I don't understand."

• He puts his pen down, passes a hand through his hair and huffs out a breath.

"I'm saying my dear Wraith," he starts, methodically taking off his gloves and then joins her at the window. He offers his palm and she gladly places her own in it, her eyes somewhat expectant. Kaz quirks his lips slightly and continues, "would you like us to exchange vows and make it official?" He squeezes her palm and gestures between them.

• She's stunned for a moment because between the two of them, its always her initiating any sort of new action— a hug, a kiss,..making love. And it has taken them a good amount of years to reach this level of intimacy without triggering the other’s traumas so its even more shocking that Kaz asks her first. A small part of her had even wanted to propose him some time in the future but now he's clearly beaten her to that.

• "Inej?" Kaz rubs the back of her hand, "if you don't want to—"

"NO! I do!" she says hurriedly before he can take it back and he breaks into that crooked grin of his, fishing out a simple silver band with a single black feather atop it, its end pointy like a knife.

He smoothly slides it onto her finger and they exchange a gleeful smile.

• After a few minutes he goes, "So like..do you want to do this my way or yours?"

And she's confused so he explains. "If its your way, we can have a traditional Suli wedding, whatever your people do and take your parents' blessings."

He adds a dramatic pause later, "If its my way, I'll just ask Specht to put our names on a marriage document and be done with it."

She rolls her eyes.

• In the end, Inej tells the other Crows. Jesper wiggles his brows, teases Kaz but also gives him a big hug. Wylan is surprised but also happy. Matthias is slightly displeased at the holy bronze girl for letting herself be charmed by this notorious demjin. But he does believe that the two belong with no one else and congratulates them.

• Nina takes it upon herself to plan the wedding and decides it should be a Suli one. She wants to see Inej draped in red. But also wants to see Kaz out of his fitting suits for once and in traditional Suli clothes for men.

• Mr. and Mrs. Ghafa find their son-in-law quite odd but give their blessings happily because there's no one else who'll be more suitable for their lovely daughter.
