A nice character with a yandere split persona. The Yandere persona was born out of the abandonment of the character by a loved one, maybe mom. Did he kill her just so she could stay? Maybe. Only the Yandere persona knows, the character is oblivious, he just knows his mom left him. But he oddly feels ok about it as though the situation has been reconciled... which is weird to him.
Now he meets and falls in love with yn. She must not leave. It's f around and find out
Btw I love you ❤️❤️❤️ The Yokai series is my fave
Oooh, I’ve been thinking of a context for your idea and I somehow got stuck on a serial killer who is unaware of it most of the time. Since you mentioned abandonment and obsession, my mind wandered to some of the typical habits, such as collecting trophies. I’ve also been wanting to try my hand at writing a serial killer, so hopefully it turns out to your liking. (Sending back the love, always a pleasure to see your comments ❤)
Although let me include a little disclaimer, because I am aware many things in the sphere of true crime are problematic: this in no way glorifies or romanticizes serial killers. Just a reminder that this is a work of fiction and all behaviors displayed are for the sake of an interesting story, not to be admired in real life.
Yandere! Serial Killer x Reader
You're temporarily staying with a kind, quiet man renting out a room in the house he inherited. It's just the two of you, and a locked bedroom he claims to be vacant. Yet as night falls, you hear the whispered arguing of a voice you don't recognize. Is anyone else there?
Content/TW: female reader, mentions of murder, obsessive behavior, horror

You must break the pattern today, or the loop with repeat tomorrow
He stares at the locked drawer of the bureau. The clock ticking in the background fades into an irritating buzz, drumming against his ears at irregular intervals like a swarm of insects. Once again, he cannot remember where the key is. Yet he does not feel compelled to search for it. It cannot be anything of significance, he tells himself. Forgotten knick-knacks, perhaps. Despite the apparent lack of curiosity, he is drawn here every morning. He wakes up, carefully folds the sheets, and goes to sit in the office. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Until, at last, the noon hour strikes, and the hallways are flooded with ghastly chimes.
Lately, however, other sounds have taken over the usual silence that envelops the house. The main door rattles faintly before opening with a creak.
“They were out of our bread rolls. I got a baguette instead.”
It’s you.
He stands up, as if startled from deep slumber, and hurries downstairs to greet you. He takes the grocery bags from your hands, flashing a smile of gratitude. Somehow, the idea of another person living here is still foreign to him. He’s gotten so used to the solitude, the quietness of the house. Time stands still when there’s no one else to remind you of it.
You glance up at the tall man, noticing his slight frown.
“Another brain fog?” You ask, worried.
“Don’t mind me. It’s a morning routine at this point”, he jokes. “More importantly, what would you like for breakfast?”
He always cooks for both of you. Initially, you were rather hesitant to go for his offer. You’d been looking for temporary accommodation and stumbled upon his advertisement. A cozy, vintage house the man had inherited from his lamentably departed mother, with one too many spare rooms. He had no need for all the space, he said in his description. You paid him a visit and were taken aback by his appearance. A massive, muscular frame that did not fit the rest of his mannerisms and features. He was soft-spoken, polite, and terribly shy. His eyes reflected the kind of gloom to be expected from anyone in his situation.
A sweet, gentle soul looking for company. On top of that, if you are to be technical, he’s a housemate difficult to compete against. Well-kept, mannered, organized, and thoughtful. He keeps to himself. You’d learned, soon after moving in, that he suffers from the occasional brain fog and memory loss. He goes for walks at odd hours to clear his mind. Enjoys reading in his office, although you’ve caught him just staring into space many times. Terribly inconvenient for the poor lad, you imagine.
The house itself is also not a bad deal by any means. Old fashioned, littered with trinkets and paintings. “My mother liked to collect many things”, he’d told you. It certainly has personality, to put it mildly. Some belongings are more bizarre than others: portraits of faceless people, with features smudged or distorted, doll heads in pompous, feathered collars hanging in clusters across the musty walls. Peculiar, but manageable.
Only at night does it become unsettling.
“Going for a walk?”
You’re curled in one of the armchairs, flipping through a magazine you found. It’s been hours since your little breakfast together and now the sun is beginning to set. The man is buttoning up his coat, standing in the doorframe and gazing at you with a smile.
“Yeah. I’m starting to detach a little. Maybe some fresh air will help.”
It’s nice, he thinks, having you here. He didn’t expect much when he ventured to rent out a room. He just wanted to hear the murmur of life again. Ever since his mother has passed…when did it happen, again? Better yet, how did it happen? Christ, he can’t remember. The last memory he has of her is not something to cherish. She was angrily shoving him out of the way, visibly annoyed by his cries and pleading. “Please don’t leave me”, he kept croaking in a pathetic tone, dragging his knees like a beggar. Then it’s all black. Black, like the cover they kept over her body at the morgue, to hide the mutilated remains. Black, like the tie he struggled to knot before her funeral. At that time, the sheets of her bed were still scattered, as if she never left. He could almost see her there, reflected onto the mirror’s surface – rather dirty as a matter of fact, he should wipe it soon – sitting melancholically on the edge of the mattress.
To think he’d be hearing footsteps again. A soothing voice. Even if it’s temporary, your presence in the house has been a blessing. Even if you must leave eventually. His lips purse involuntarily.
You hear the door close, followed by the key twisting inside the lock. You’re alone now.
With haste, you get up and sprint upstairs. You pull out a hairpin from your pocket and discreetly insert it in the cylinder. Today you find out if the spare bedroom truly is as vacant as your housemate claims.
When you first viewed the house, he mentioned that only this room will remain locked. It was his mother’s and he’d rather not look at it, he said. Let it gather dust, for all he cares.
Only at night, you’ve been hearing someone else’s voice. It didn’t happen immediately. Weeks after you’d moved in, you woke up thirsty and tiptoed on your way to the kitchen for a glass of water. On your return, you were surprised to see dim light coming from underneath the door of the forbidden bedroom. Visitors of your housemate? You hurried back into your bed, not wanting to intrude. But the following night you jolted up from the same mumbled voice. Strange that he’d invite someone over this late - twice in a row! - without saying a word to you. Even more, they were arguing like this. Curiosity got the better of you, so you snuck out and placed your cupped ear against the wall.
“No, no, no, no. I’m telling you, it’s different. She’s different from the others.” A deep, ragged voice retorted angrily.
Suddenly, there was a loud thud, a fist smashing against something, then glass shattering over exasperated, shouted curses. You ran back to your room, baffled. Who on Earth was there? You could feel your heart throbbing inside your chest.
Morning couldn’t come quick enough. You marched over to your housemate, demanding to know who this stranger was. He stared at you, wide eyed and incredulous. “There’s no one else here, dear. Just you and me.” Nonsense. You knew what you heard. You’d been wide awake! He gently placed the back of his hand against your forehead. “Could it be that you’re sick? Weather has been dreadful lately.” You scanned his face with hitched breath. Was he mocking you? Yet his features betrayed no such intent. The man seemed genuinely worried; face twisted in a caring frown.
Then what? A ghost? An intruder that fancied having a chat in a dead woman’s bedroom?
You fiddle with the pin until you hear the click. Finally. Surely whoever has been frequenting the place must’ve left some clues behind. You carefully open the door and peek inside. A broken mirror and some furniture covered in webs. There’s a lingering rusty smell that tickles your nostrils, and soon enough you find the source. Next to the old bed lays a cloth splattered red. On top of it, a leather folder from which scalpels and other surgical tools fell out haphazardly. Blood? Your mouth curls in disgust. You crouch to the floor to inspect the odd items and notice a jar glistening from underneath the bed. You pull it towards you and give it a rattle. Nothing heavy. You lift the jar into the light for a better look and gasp.
Fingernails.
“Oh, I forgot to put those away.”
It’s the same deep voice you’ve been hearing at night. Your stomach drops and you turn, slowly, towards the entrance. Horror is swiftly replaced by confusion once you realize it’s none other than your housemate.
“Y-you’re back from your walk?” You blurt out.
“Walk?” He inquires. “Ah, that’s what he told you.” He steps towards you and lowers himself to your level with a grin.
“Have you come to say hello?” He points towards the tall, shattered mirror. “This is (Y/N), mother. See, I told you she’s stunning. You didn’t believe me.”
He ruffles your hair with a boldness completely unfamiliar.
Nausea overwhelms you and your ears ring in panic. Whatever is happening right now is beyond your understanding.
“I’d like to go to my room now.”
“I recognize that speech all too well. You want to run away.”
Within seconds, he grabs one of the scalpels and points it towards your throat, poking your skin with its cold tip.
“Now, don’t embarrass me in front of her like that. Do you know how hard it is to convince this bitch of anything? I told her you’re not like them, (Y/N). Don’t prove me wrong.”
“Them?” You whisper, lungs devoid of air.
“Come, let’s put this with the others first.” He pockets the scalpel and lifts you up by the hand, tenderly kissing your fingers in the process. “Then we can talk.”
You follow him into the office, and he unlocks one of the desk drawers. Against your better judgment, you stretch over his shoulder and glance inside. ID cards of various women, jewelry, lipsticks. Teeth. Fingernails.
You want to cry.
He nonchalantly dumps the contents of the jar into the drawer and slams it back shut, then throws himself in the chair and pats his thigh, eyeing you. With a sob, you clumsily climb onto his lap.
“Back to our matters. What were you planning on doing?”
“I just wanted to lay in bed.”
He takes out the scalpel and draws a line across your cheek. It stings.
“Don’t lie, (Y/N). You have nothing to gain from being naughty with me.” He coos, placing a kiss over the fresh wound.
“I wanted to run away.” You confess, petrified.
“Good. Do you now understand what happens if you try to run away?”
You briefly look at the drawer and nod.
“I knew you would. You’re so smart.” He strokes your hair fondly. “Not an easy decision to make, mind you. I love you more than anything in this world. Who’d enjoy killing their one and only?”
The man ponders his next words with a hum.
“Don’t count on getting away while he’s awake, either.” He taps his temple and chuckles. “He has no idea and won’t stop you, but I can easily find you again.”
The eggs sizzle in the pan as you stare at your plate, background sounds melting into shapeless static. After a couple more minutes, the man turns off the stove and places the food on the table with a cheerful whistle.
“Eat up!” He encourages you.
You hold onto your fork with faintly trembling hands.
“This might be the last breakfast I cook for you, after all. You’re leaving tomorrow, aren’t you?” His last sentence trails off and he smiles, dejected.
“Actually, I was wondering if I could…stay here instead.”
He gazes at you in disbelief.
“Truly? I-…That’d be fantastic.” He laughs awkwardly and scratches the back of his head, a deep red blush spreading over his cheeks. “Do excuse my rudeness. To be honest with you, I’ve grown quite fond of our arrangement. I really do like having you here.”
You return the smile without responding.
“Most exciting news. I’ll get the documents from the office after we eat, so we can draft a new lease.”
“That’d be lovely”, you answer curtly.
“Say, have you by any chance stumbled upon a small key around the house? I wanted to finally unlock the drawer upstairs, but I can’t remember where I could’ve left it.”
The knot in your stomach tightens.
“Not at all.”
“Don’t sweat it. I’m sure it’s nothing important, anyways. Old memorabilia, most likely.”

How the Drow Became Problematic Faves - a Badly Written Meta History of D&D
Oh, hey. It feels like newcomers to D&D via BG3 fandom have discovered the Problematic Nature of Drow via Halsin vs Minthara conflict.
Cut because of talk of racism and it being fucking long.
Let's talk about meta, first. So, the very first usage of 'drow' came from a dialetc of Scots as a term for troll, which was used to talk about all sorts of evil spirits. When Gary Gygax had to make a war game, he decided he'd make evil elves. They were based on 'black elves' in the Prose Edda and saw the word 'Drow' in a dictionary that claimed it was a term for underground elves who were skilled workers in metal. Being a white guy in the late 70s, he saw no issues in making evil elves actually black. For the next decade or so, they were canon fodder for modules and novels and always evil and repugnant.
In the late 80s and early 90s, R. A. Salavotre and Ed Greenwood slapped on the concept of drow society being an evil dystopian society run by dominatrixes who emasculate men, in the Forgotten Realms setting. There were a few token dark elves, namely the super popular Drizzt Do'Urden, who were good but the majority were not. Like Gary, RA and Ed were white guys who did not see the problem of black elves and putting their kink into deep lore. Not all settings went by this, Dragonlance for example had drow just be ‘evil assholes elves who got kicked out of their society’ and look like just any other elves.
(Quick note on Drizzt, he became iconic not because of his race but so much as being an outsider to two cultures while being a badass. I might not be a fan personally, but I know the appeal of the character.)
The 90s came along and by the end of the decade, TSR was bought by Wizards of he Coast who proceeded to make the Drow even Grim Darker during 3rd edition  to go along with the times. Yet, too, didn’t stop to think about the problematic issues that were being brought up by more thoughtful fans - WotC hired another module company who wrote about  drow women being so fucking evil, they an orgasm like reaction when embryo killed each other in the womb.
4th Edition came and went. No one talks about those times. Drow existed as evil.
2014, 5e comes along and drow are so fucking popular, they’re included in the Player’s Handbook, rather in errata based books, as ‘humanoid’. In fact other evil races were introduced under the label of ‘humanoid’, indicating orcs and goblinkin. About a year later, Matt Mercer switched up his TTRPG to 5e because it was an easier system for his friends to understand, and they began to show their games online under Critical Role while a year after that Stranger Things came out and became a smash hit.
Between these two, D&D explodes in popularity with an entirely new demographic group that began to outnumber the old guard. This larger and more diverse popular saw drow and other ‘evil races’ and went ‘wtf’. They didn’t exactly like the concept of ‘an always evil race’ and discovered the problematic issues that collected over the last several decades not with just drow, but with ‘monstrous’ races.
WotC wanting money began to listen - just really slowly, and not so much in Forgotten Realms. They dropped the ‘always evil’ from the stat block but refused to change anything else to their older settings.
(Incidentally, the company that made Grim Dark Drow really disliked 4e. They decided to make their own take of 3.5e with Hookers and Blackjack and made Pathfinder, which was supposed to be Edgier Game than D&D. However, a lot of people they hired were quick to notice the nature of the game and say, ‘nah, this shit is stupid’. As of now, Pazio is retconning drow from their lore. - That my friends, is called a character arc.)
During this 46 year span, drow have been fucking evil because their goddess made them do it as justification of their evilness - and not because they were black or born into it. In fact, Lloth, Gruumsh and Maglubiyet are the reasons why the Drow, Orc, and Goblinkin society is so evil and they’re also why they can function as a society when in truth, they all should have fallen apart. And no one has bothered to change this lore. In fact they avoid mentioning this lore rather than changing it to avoid conflict with older fans and newer fans.
Then BG3 hits and hits harder than anyone expected. A lot of new fans come on aboard and really begin to like Drow, who are super sexy evil elves, not knowing the lore and kicking the problematic issues down the road. Larian was a bit quicker than TSR/WotC to realize ‘wow, this is fucking yikes’ and decided to make Seldarine drow. I’ve been playing since I was young teen, in the last years of 3.xe. I saw a lot of wanna-be Drizzt and Good Aligned Drow that were played variably, but there were a lot of people who loved the concept. While Seldarine aren’t a concept in TTRPG canon proper, the idea of Seldarine drow has existed for decades at tables, and Larian acknowledging that is something I love.
But they made Llothsworn Drow as the ‘lore compliant drow’ because WotC hasn’t changed drow in decades.
The thing is, Drow being Problematic Faves isn’t because WotC is wildly racist on purpose, it’s just that during the majority of Drow being A Thing in D&D, they have been Sexy and Evil Villains and play the role of Misunderstood Outsider (though this recently has been taken over by tieflings).
In fact, I’m seeing a lot of new fans getting kicked in the teeth when characters react to a Llothsworn drow as flat out evil and not being judged by their actions, because they don’t know it’s been a thing in D&D for years with narrative excuses to justify in-universe racism. And then there are some players who make an evil Llothsworn drow and still get upset despite playing into in-universe reasons for the excuses of racism.
We’re seeing it as a reaction to datamined information with little context other than an abused white guy feels uncomfortable with an abused black woman - and it’s super hard to justify in-universe reasons for this because in the real world, a white guy is going to be listened to and believed regardless of it being true or not.
Essentially, the drow are a fucking mess due to D&D ignoring the racial implications of drow in the real world for nearly 50 years. The only way to fix it is making major lore changes, which is something they’re reluctant to do because they’re making their errata books so damn light on lore as to avoid conflict and the model sells.
Will this change with BG3? I don’t know. But I kinda hope so.

Hi..... Can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from JJK? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series (until now)? Thanks....
No problem. It gives me a great excuse to whip out this image of my top 9 jjk faves
Tumblr media
They're not in order here, but compared to other categories, I don't actually have such a hard time ranking characters.
Kenjaku
I've talked about them a bunch, most recently on the last ask about my favourite characters, so I'll just summarize what I love about them: mad scientist + family drama + trans + chill & genre-savvy + Japanese history + body snatcher
2. Yuuji
Also like him for how he's a pretty unusual shonen protagonist. He's not overpowered, he doesn't want to become the jujutsu king/kage/president and almost every shonen mc trope he does exhibit gets punished or beaten out of him. He nontheless doesn't lose his base compassion for people. That compassion is also what will drive him to kill if he has to, something for the few people he actually hates. He's selfless to the point of suicidal. His whole character arc(s) revolves around him finding a satisfying way to die and now being forced to also find a satisfying reason to live (with how jjk is going, I don't think he'll find that but he's not able to die either). His conflicts with the villains are deeply personal, he doesn't just challenge them on the basis of them breaking the law or being some nebulous depiction of a bad person. That's how it starts out, but he can't beat them on that basis alone. He was only able to really hurt Mahito and defeat him after he accepted their personal connection and similarities.
3. Tengen
Problematic conservative grandma. She's really the root of all of the problems in jujutsu society, she's the one who build up the entire basis of the series from world building to the antagonists. Without her Kenjaku wouldn't be who they are right now, they would likely not try to challenge the system and forcefully advance humanity in the way they do and might even be dead for hundreds of years. Gojo wouldn't exist without her either. Riko wouldn't either and she also wouldn't have died the way she did. Same for Yuki. Sukuna might largely be influenced by her as well. She's responsible for so much of what's happening in the series, but gets all too easily overlooked both in-universe and outside. Her whole backstory is so fascinating, her relationship to Kenjaku drives me crazy and I do find her stubborn, kinda grumpy personality quite charming. Also gnc as fuck.
4. Uraume
While in Sukuna's case I really care more about his backstory than him as a person and find his personality not that exciting, it's the opposite for Uraume. I do want that Heian flashback and also see where Uraume came from and how they met Sukuna, but what I really like about them is their personality. At first glance they appear so calm and collected, just a loyal servant without much autonomy, but they're actually so much more. There's so much passion in them, they are so easy to tick off and always ready for violence. Especially in combination with Kenjaku they are so entertaining. I need to see them cook more often. Preferably human. That brief glimpse we got when they prepared Sukuna's bath was so good. The way they pinned down and sliced up those curses without destroying them...I want to see them do the same with humans.
5. Angel
Heian era's craziest paladin. I just love how hypocritical and bloodthirsty she is. She has her sense of justice and right and wrong, she doesn't pretend like everyone has to agree with it, but she will still mercilessly kill everyone in her way or who she just doesn't like for one reason or another. If Kenjaku is a social butterfly, she's a social caterpillar. I miss her just blatently telling the protagonists that she doesn't care about their goals or innocent people dying. She must have been wonderful to witness in politics. I'm really curious how her relationship to the Abe clan looked liked. It's such a shame that all that got toned down, so Sukuna didn't get one-shotted and Gojo could be freed. The volume 24 extra show though that Gege does care about her or at least her technique, giving me some hope that she will actually get something to do again soon. Once we get her backstory, she could easily rank above Uraume. Btw, I want more panels where Angel is just a mouth. No Hana, just that mouth with a monotone background and overly detailed teeth. It looks so fantastically creepy.
Favourite Moments
1. Kenjaku talking to Kogane
Tumblr media
It's just such a good moment that does a lot for Kenjaku's characterization, their goals and relationship to Tengen (and arguably also Yuuji). Still feeling pretty ambivalent about ch222, but this was undeniably a highlight. It has had a tight grip on my mind ever since. I could write whole essays about it, starting with the scenary of it all. Kenjaku sitting alone, the only one in focus and the only one in the light, while being in front of a game console with two controllers that remain untouched and without a game running while talking to someone/something that/who can't hear them or can't understand them. Kogane is basically just a computer. It can't give insightful answers or challenge Kenjaku's beliefs, while Tengen has also lost all autonomy and most of her personality I assume. She also can't talk back, probably can't hear them and isn't even there, but Kenjaku still directs their musings at her, knowing she won't/can't answer, but still asking for her input, challenging her and leaving space for what would be her own words. They hate her, but also want her to do better and this scene really shows that while Kenjaku's plans my succeed, they probably won't get what they really want.
2. Yuuji chasing Mahito
Tumblr media
Pretty easy pick. I'm really looking forward to seeing this animated soon. It's not just the beautiful imagery or how their roles have now reversed, but also what leads up to it. Yuuji accepts who he is, how he is not so different from Mahito. He discards any pretence of high and mighty reasons for why Mahito should die and embraces his hate. He's not pretending to be any better than Mahito, no "I'm not gonna kill you because I'm not like you", he says with absolute senserity that he will kill Mahito as many times as it takes. He's gonna hunt him down just like Mahito did. It's also the start of Yuuji giving into the role jujutsu society has put him in and starts thinking of himself as a cog, a mere object that serves others and blindly obeys its function (killing curses). I think getting Sukuna out of his body was the start to him evolving past that thinking, but this was a very necessary step. He needs to be broken down before being build back up. It was a great end for Mahito as a character as well.
3. Kenjaku & Tengen get Sukuna's body
Tumblr media
This whole scene is so interesting. Like in the first moment it's basically just Kenjaku talking to their hand puppets again, but this time there's a bit more outside input. Ngl, the mere fact that Kenjaku and Tengen are together, talking to each other and working with each other excites me already. There's not much of Tengen's consciousness left and she can't actually refuse anything Kenjaku does, but their interactions were still very fascinating. What's also interesting is how they (both of them) treat Sukuna's corpse. They stroll up to it so casually, as if they have done it in the past. Kenjaku asks Tengen if they can take it and she says yes, but neither of them consider Sukuna and his wishes in all this. Kenjaku even jokes that it's their souvenir for him. It makes me so curious about how they are connected to him and what kind of relationship the three used to have. It gets even better now that we know that Tengen was the one who prepared his corpse (without his knowledge) and Kenjaku was the one who turned Sukuna into a cursed object. These two have clearly passed around Sukuna's corpse between them before. "Do you mind if I take his fingers?" "No, go ahead, I don't need them" This scene gets better and better as the story progresses.
4. MCs meeting Tengen
Tumblr media
Speaking of scenes that get better with time, ch145 and 146 have been one of my favourites for a long time. They have to be on this list for how many times I've reread them alone. The more information and backstory we get, the more interesting this whole info dump becomes. There are always little phrases and moments that become a lot more meaning full on a reread. We also got so many hints. Tengen's connection to the Star Plasma Vessels and Six Eyes, Yuki being able to hear the other SPVs, Tengen and Kenjaku's relationship (many hcs were spawned by Tengen casually calling Kenjaku a child and I'm happy to see that many of them are turning out to be true), the first hints at Kenjaku's plan, even though a lot of depth was missing of course and Tengen underestimates some of their reasoning and end goals, and Tengen's utter failure to understand Kenjaku as a person (they aren't even that shy to talk about their reasons, especially to her! grandma please...).
5. Noritoshi preparing to die/visiting his mother
Tumblr media
It's this scene of Noritoshi finding his mother again plus the context of her side of the story at the end of the Sakurajima colony and Maki's advice re matricide that really moves me. Probably Noritoshi's best scene so far. I really hope the reason he isn't with the others is because he went back to his mother to finally talk to her openly. I swear, these two are so horrible at communicating. It's so heartbreaking to see Noritoshi lose all will to live and being ready to die in battle to do at least something useful with his life. He dedicated everything to changing the Kamo from within for his mother, only to get kicked out of the clan and find out that his mother has moved on. Everything he has done so far becomes meaningless. However, it is what comes afterwards that makes it even more clear how toxic his mindset was. Noritoshi thinks poetic words about how he's gonna die for his friends, only to be interrupted by Daido and Miyo. It shows that this way of thinking is entirely unnecessary and something he has to break out of. It's what sets him on the right path to reunite with his mother. Kenjaku forced him out of the clan and gave him no way to return. His mother showed him that there is a way to live a happy life despite the abuse both of them suffered from the Kamo clan, it is possible to move on. Daido & Miyo disrupted his suicidal thoughts and took over the fight for him aka he has to rely on others and accept their "help" without giving anythign in return. Maki taught him that there might be a way to reconnect with his mother and that he should ask all the questions he has for her regarding his purpose and name openly. I really didn't care much for Noritoshi before, but this whole arc elevated him so much for me.

LotR reread - book 2, chapter 2 - The Council of Elrond
Tolkien once envisaged Galdor of the Havens as the same person as Galdor, Lord of Gondolin. He seems to have gone back on it, but I like that version a bit.
Mysterious Allusions Counter at 4.5
"And yet not so many, nor so fair, as when Thangorodrim was broken, and the Elves deemed that evil was ended for ever, and it was not so."
"The Spear of Gil-galad and the Sword of Elendil, Aeglos and Narsil, none could withstand" -- proof that what's important is a really really good sword, able to survive contact with evil beings?
"The blood of the Númenóreans became mingled with that of lesser men. Then the watch upon the walls of Mordor slept..." - hmmm... otoh, weird with the "lesser men", otoh, given the next sentence, it might mean less a racial change and more the Gondorians forgetting their heritage.
Boromir's (Faramir's really) dream: voice speaks out of the West. This seems important.
Another poem I learned by heart completely accidentally at 13.
Bilbo telling his story - "He did not ommit a single riddle" xdd

"In all the long wars with the Dark Tower treason has ever been our greatest foe"??? In the wars of the First Age, yes, but I can't really find any instances of treason later on, unless it's the Númenóreans' collective descent into evil idiocy. But the "Dark Tower" means Sauron. A slip? Or were there betrayals we haven't been told of?
"It is perilous to study too deeply the arts of the Enemy, for good or for ill"
Whatever one thinks the Valar would say about someone bringing the Ring into Valinor (LotR declines to elaborate on "they would not receive it"), the explanation that the road to the sea will be guarded against them seems very reasonable anyhow. "Too often the Elves have fled that way" and Sauron would not have forgotten how his predecessor ended.
"But if you take it freely, I will say that your choice is right: and though all the mighty Elf-friends of old, Hador, and Húrin, and Túrin, and Beren himself were assembled together, your seat should be among them" (!!!)
I used to not understand why Túrin and Húrin are held in honour so high. Now I get Húrin, because the Silm seriously undersells his bravery (he was long, umm, persuaded to give up the location of Gondolin, and you can guess what kind of methods of persuasion were used - and said nothing), but despite Túrin being a problematic fave of mine, I still feel like remembering the killing of Glaurung and forgetting everything else, which everyone in ME seems to do, is a bit weird. I have seen the interpretation that it is done specifically to spite Morgoth, and I guess it makes as much sense as anything.
But anyway, rest in peace, Túrin, and that praise Frodo was given was something.

Do you have any dark gothic/horror book recs? I’m trying to get out of thrillers at the moment. also looking for some dark classics. any ideas?
I was waiting to answer this until after the Bella's Book Club summer reading reclist went live and now it's live!! and I must say, full of some Choice gothic recs. But I'll list my personal faves here!
Dark™ things from my part of the BBC reclist:
Jamaica Inn (and My Cousin Rachel) by Daphne du Maurier - iirc I described Jamaica Inn as gothic + adventure in my recs, and yep, that's what it is. definitely part of the specific "the book cover shows a woman in a nightgown running from a scary building" gothic heroine tradition. I also gave a brief nod to My Cousin Rachel because it's another of du Maurier's works which I think is underrated (that one's more of a slow-burning gothic mystery featuring a hero of the 'little wet babygirl' variety.)
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno Garcia - Also as I said in my recs, it's very like Jamaica Inn in structure and genre, though of course the writing, the specific characters, and the central mysteries are different. But MG is (of course) Mexican and has more fun Get Out/Ready or Not vibes with its themes of class and ethnicity.

Girls Running from Houses by tanaudel on redbubble
Perfume: the Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind - Villain protagonist villain protagonist! This one I love mostly for its flowery prose and sheer aesthetic commitment. You're telling me this 18th-century French serial killer turns his victims into perfume?? Say more
The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey - Seriously the most underrated YA series of all time. Also so gory and terrifying I sometimes cannot believe it's YA. To this day some of the scariest written horror my eyes have beheld, not to mention it's got banger prose. Most people know Rick Yancey from The 5th Wave which is such bland cookiecutter 2010s YA dystopia love triangle nonsense that I just want to shake everyone and go NO, READ THIS BRILLIANCE INSTEAD! ngl the last book in the series is Not Good (you can 100% tell he had switched all his energies to 5th Wave, which is a shame) but the first 3 are absolutely good enough to make up for it.
Other people's reclist recs that I too have read and enjoyed: Rebecca (Daphne du Maurier), We Have Always Lived in the Castle (Shirley Jackson), Dracula (Bram Stoker), Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)
More classics: The Turn of the Screw by Henry James (short and easy read!), The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (a must-read for aesthete gays everywhere. I mean cmon it's Oscar)
Extremely melodramatic "classics:' I loved reading Louisa May Alcott's little known "flops" A Long Fatal Love Chase and Behind a Mask (short story collection.) I might make Book Club read Love Chase at some point because I think we'd have way too much fun with it. We'll see.
My personal favorite that I think everyone should read: The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter (short story collection of gothic fairytale retellings!)
Not exactly what you think of when you hear 'gothic' per se but definitely Dark and it's my OTHER favorite: Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer (I never shut up about this book and it's for a reason. Very different from the movie, which I also love!)
My favorite gothic/horror authors:
Shirley Jackson - I've definitely talked about her before but both The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle are straight bangers (and short, easy reads to boot!) Do NOT think you can watch the Mike Fl*nagan Hill House show of the same name and call it a day—they're completely different stories. (also let the record show I'm censoring his name out of personal dislike he hasn't done anything 'problematic' afaik calm down)
Stephen Graham Jones - Insanely good writing oh my god. I have so far only read the My Heart is a Chainsaw books but his entire oeuvre is on my TBR because he cannot lose. Also he lives in my town and I'm starstruck just knowing this fact. Indigenous (Blackfoot) author who writes about indigenous characters!
Kelly Link - Writer of banger short fiction. I particularly enjoy Pretty Monsters because it's 100% written for the Twilight girlies and clearly made with love and silliness
Grady Hendrix - I didn't loooove Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, but I adored Hörrorstör and especially My Best Friend's Exorcism, which is a total masterpiece IMO. Another writer whose entire oeuvre is on my TBR.

For the character ask: Galadriel (or Artanis if the time period is preferred) :)
1: sexuality headcanon
Ragingly bisexual & had a Thing with Luthien. Big strap energy.
2: otp
Galadriel/Celeborn. He's Wife Guy and I love them together.
3: brotp
Glorfindel! Shared experiences with the grinding ice and first age in general. I think there's a real sense of easy familiarity and fondness between the two of them, and I headcannon that she uses Laurefindele in reference to him and he uses Artanis in reference to her. They swap war stories about Turgon together :)
4: notp
Haladriel. I keep seeing fics with Celebrian as a Haladriel baby and I want to kms. I am horrified. I am disgusted. I commit my life to my lord and savior jesus christ--
I just hate it so much. Not least of all for the Celeborn erasure but mostly for how it cheapens both characters and has some problematic implications for how we treat women in fiction. I hate hate hate the whole "she has the potential to save him from himself/bring him back from the brink of insanity/hold him in check" die die die stop romanticising relationships in which one party is responsible for the actions of another especially ESPECIALLY women with men. Women are not here to "civilize" men. And just in general please give Mairon more credit than that. No. He is not refraining from certain actions because he wants that pussy. He is refraining from certain actions because he has long term plans and is capable of strategic thought. No, he is not offering for Galadriel to be "his queen" in a romantic sense. He is manipulating her just like Morgoth manipulated Feanor by playing to that disastrous genetic Noldorin arrogance. Also she's clearly grieving her husband and in no way in a position to have a relationship with anyone, least of all a corrupt maia. I know there's like... let people ship what they want and relationships don't all have to be healthy and unproblematic or whatever but I just take a LOT of issues with the way Haladriel is romanticised. And just...with it. In general. As a ship. It's bad & i hate it. UGHHHH I could go on about this for ages I am so sorry. There are very few ships that I hate more than fucking Haladriel.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head
She collects butterflies. It's her special interest! She has a whole butterfly garden in Lorien & popular gifts from Celeborn include rare sourced caterpillars to add to her garden for her to bond with and study.
6: favorite line from this character
And you, Ring-bearer,’ she said, turning to Frodo. ‘I come to you last who are not last in my thoughts. For you I have prepared this.’ She held up a small crystal phial: it glittered as she moved it, and rays of white light sprang from her hand. ‘In this phial,’ she said, ‘is caught the light of Eärendil’s star, set amid the waters of my fountain. It will shine still brighter when night is about you. May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.
7: one way in which I relate to this character
I think I really do have something of that pitfall of ambition & wanting to be someone and do things -- which is not in of itself a bad thing but it can become unhealthy and detrimental, which I think is part of why Galadriel's arc of desiring power and a kingdom, sailing to Middle Earth, but then kind of settling into a more background role of preservation & guidance and ultimately choosing to resist that core temptation the Ring offers her and sailing back home to simply be Galadriel is very meaningful to me.
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character
She has boomer energy in my head. Can't really elaborate on any specifics but every time she shows up in longfics that take place in the third age she has moments that feel like trying to watch my parents use a cellphone.
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?
Half cinnamon roll half problematic fave imo.

For the character ask: Amaimon (Blue Exorcist), Trein (Twisted Wonderland), and Maki (Fire Force).
Thank you so much for the ask, friend!!! Super excited to answer these :D (related to this post) It will be a long one, so under the cut she goes!!
Amaimon
1: sexuality headcanon: I think Amaimon is either bi or pan. He just...doesn't strike me as the type to care about what his partner is in terms of gender. Amaimon likes what he likes and that's just how it is.
2: otp: I don't know if I have a pairing with Amaimon that I feel strongly enough about to consider it an OTP. I have pairings I like with Amaimon, but for those characters I almost always have another pairing that I like better for them. And I don't think Amaimon would do well with polyamory. He's very selfish.
3: brotp: This is not canon. This is most definitely not canon. But I am *obsessed* with the idea of Amaimon actually doting on Rin after they get past the "tried to kill Rin/Shiemi/other exwires" issue. Like, to Amaimon, a demon, he really just wanted some entertainment. Gotta remember, he's NOT human, and to him "playing" is something totally different. So, it makes sense in my little world that once he realizes how strong Rin is, and that he can get Rin to "play", he wants to more and more, but also becomes a bit jealous and clingy. Maybe even protective? Anyway. This is why when I write him, I most often like writing him as a doting yet teasing older brother for Rin. And maybe Rin warms up to him eventually and really starts to enjoy being around him and trust Amaimon.
4: notp: Lucifer. Not as a friend, not as a lover (Again, they are demons; so remember, demons play by demon rules and not human ones) and not as a brother or 'bromance'. Why? Mainly because I dislike Lucifer, if I'm being honest. But also because I just don't see them being on good terms. I feel like Lucifer would be like "Listen to me" and Amaimon would flip him off and scitter around on the ceiling or something. Which is like, his attitude with Mephisto, except then Mephisto usually has a good counter, where I just don't think it would give the same delightfully funny vibe with Lucifer.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head: Again this would be the "Amaimon not so secretly dotes on Rin and the only one who doesn't realize this is Rin" because it makes me happy. That's literally the main reason. It just makes me so happy.
6: favorite line from this character: "I have a cousin with a penchant for the occult who collects eyeballs". I don't know if I can explain this one. I just find it funny.
7: one way in which I relate to this character: I think what I relate to most for Amaimon is his impatience. I try my best to be patient, especially given my work, but there are some days I just want to lose it because nothing is going my way, or because I really wanted something and I don't get it. It sounds a bit childish of me, but Amaimon is childish too. I think part of why I like him so much is because he acts out his childish urges freely and I wish sometimes that I could do that.
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: His hair spike. Amaimon, sweetie, why?
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? Oh, Problematic Fave, 10000%.
Trein
1: sexuality headcanon: honestly, I think Trein is gay. But he strikes me as someone who lost love once a long time ago and never tried to love like that again. I don't know, I just think sometimes there is a lot of sadness in his eyes. (I've played to the end of Book 6 Part One, so if there is backstory on Trein in the next part or chapters, I am unaware of it at this time)
2: otp: None. As I said, I kind of picture him as someone who did have someone, but then lost them. Maybe someday I'll write him a headcannon backstory about that love.
3: brotp: Trein is not 100% sure what this term means, but I like to think that some students saw him having tea with Crewel and now all the students know he's pretty close to Crewel and Crewel is his brotp.
4: notp: Crowley. Because I think Crowley would drive Trein into madness if they were anything other than colleagues.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head: Well, friend, honestly it's our Bar AU headcannon of Trein Taking Care of Crewel By Sneakily Getting Him To Eat. I just like the idea of Trein realizes Crewel doesn't take good enough care of himself and is like "well, I guess I need to suddenly have a routine of having tea in the evening with biscuits or fruit as a snack and invite Crewel so he eats something". I also like the idea we had together that Vargas goes to Trein every time he tries to figure out how to interact with Crewel because he is Very Enthusiastic and Crewel is less so, and Vargas worries he is overwhelming his coworker. (Side note: Vargas = himbo is the best hc for Vargas ever! hehehe)
6: favorite line from this character: “Excellent. Keep up this hard work for the next time as well.” When Trein praises me, I am almost in tears. Getting his approval is Goals. lol
7: one way in which I relate to this character: Trein seems to like things done in particular ways and puts value in honour and tradition. I may not be so much for tradition, but I do get particular about how I like things done. And I get frustrated when I can't deliver to my own expectations.
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: Nothing, really. I don't find anything about him, at this point, gives me second-hand embarrassment.
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? I don't know if I would define Trein as either of these...lol, though if I had to choose I guess cinnamon roll? He seems like the type of person to be a bit tsundere to be honest.
Maki
1: sexuality headcanon: I headcannon Maki as straight. I don't know why, I just do. (You're probably thinking "what??? But she's one of your anime wives???", and I know. I know, it's odd. But she's a fictional character so I try not to read too hard into it)
2: otp: I don't actually have one for Maki. I really don't ship her with anyone in the show at this point, if I'm completely honest.
3: brotp: Hinawa. I feel like Hinawa and Maki have a really good understanding of each other and have this quiet support for each other going on behind-scenes. I really feel like Hinawa is probably Maki's closest friend in Company 8.
4: notp: Like I said, I don't really like shipping her with anybody in the show honestly, so I suppose that makes them all notp's in my eyes.
5: first headcanon that pops into my head: I think Maki was probably bullied as a child for being so strong. To me, this makes sense as to why she's so hung up on "not being feminine enough". Bullying is something that sticks with you long after the fact and preys on your mind.
6: favorite line from this character: I don't have a favourite line from Maki.
7: one way in which I relate to this character: I relate to Maki a lot about feeling insecure over my body/appearance. I also want to be seen as very feminine, so I get her discouragement and worry about coming across masculine.
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: The way she misinterprets even compliments about her strength to mean she's an "ogre" or "gorilla"; like...calm down? Literally no one said anything like that...
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? Cinnamon Roll! Maki is an absolute sweetheart!
Hope you enjoyed these answers, friend! I had fun writing them. (My computer started glitching out halfway through, though, so I had to save a draft and restart it, which is why it took me so long, lol!)

Lilith from the owl house!!
Thanks for the ask!! I adore Lilith!
1. sexuality headcanon: aroace queen!
2: otp: haha no.
3. brotp: hooty <3 oh also steve and eda
4. notp: I've seen her shipped with bellos before what is up with that ☠️ oh also hooty that's even worse
5. first headcanon that pops into my head: secretly just as fascinated with the human realm as eda, she collects old lit and history books that make their way across. Gus brings up some question or another one day and w/o pause she answers it, at first shes embarrassed but then they compare notes and it's cute
6. favorite line from this character: "What are you wearing? You look like some sort of trash collector. Oh, right. You are." I think she should go back to being this rude it's was so funny
7. one way in which I relate to this character: can become obsessive over her goals/interests in an unhealthy way
8. thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character: I don't know if I have anything she's one of my favorites everytime she's on screen
9. cinnamon roll or problematic fave?: see she's like a gooey now but I really wish her redemption arc was longer and if she back slid a bit for character growth I would love that. I want to make her worse <3 also she should be more goth again

hey friend! oh my goodness thanks for this feedback, this made my day!! popping my response under a cut bc i have much to say 🥺💕🫶
and yes omg 🥺 writing the soft sweet ari and jakey stuff was maybe the funnest part, i just adore them, big bear and his darling prince vibes for sure 😌 i wish i could give you your very own jakey 🥺 my goal is to make him the softest man alive in this series lol.
and yes!!!! yes yes yes so glad you caught onto the stinky bf vibes 🥸 you are so right to be suspicious of him— and to let you in on a little secret? i might write him as a chris character 😦 originally he was gonna be an oc but? i have to admit i’ve got a few of our faves in mind who i think could really fit his profile well. for now ransom is ari’s problematic friend, just sort of a bad side character who’s gonna stir up some drama, but i don’t hate him for the role of wren’s awful bf tbh 🫣 another good pick would be curtis. mean, rough, heartless. or we could always have lloyd, a controlling older man who has poor wren trapped so tightly in his clenched talons— you guys just gotta promise to not get mad at me for whoever i pick lol 😩
to answer your question, i am considering writing nsfw stuff between ari, jakey, and wren but it would be much further down in the storyline, not even a part of the “main” series. the plan is to have the main storyline (10-ish chapters which i have mapped out, and does not include any nsfw) and then have a follow up collection of fics about their life together after the main story ends. (the plan is to call it egem: little life bc like aww 🥲 i thought it was such a cute play on words hehe!) in the follow up collection, i do think i want to explore their relationship growing into more established polyamory, and really dig into how jake and ari help wren heal through safe, loving sex. i think that would be so healing and comforting for me (and hopefully many others!) nothing rough or depraved, all just slow, soft, almost holy in nature. but if i do write that sort of thing, it’ll be a stand-alone fic, so no one will have to read it who doesn’t want to! that way if readers want, they can experience wren, jake, and ari’s story as an entirely sfw plot, which is i think a really great thing for me to offer given some of the heavier stuff that’ll be explored throughout the series. as always i’ll provide plenty of content and trigger warnings, including warnings for any nsfw parts. i’ll probably even mark them in the little life masterlist so those who want to avoid them don’t ever even have to open them 🫶
anyway, thanks again for your enthusiasm on the series, and i hope i answered your question! take care, it has been so very cold here but i think it’ll be warming up soon, i hope it’s getting nicer too wherever you are! 🥺💕🫶

69. Tristan Strong Punches A Hole In The Sky, by Kwame Mbalia
Tumblr media
Owned: No, library Page count: Unknown/not numbered My summary: Tristan Strong is going through it. He lost his friend, he lost his first boxing match, and he’s been sent to live with his strict grandparents in the middle of nowhere. So when a strange little creature sneaks into the window and steals the last thing he has to remember his friend by, he’s determined to get it back. Soon he finds himself drawn into a mystical world where myths are true and a deadly war is waging. But he can’t do anything to help...right? My rating: 3.5/5 My commentary:
This was another random impulse pull, albeit one that I totally would have picked up if it existed when I was a kid. It's published under Rick Riordan's label, and it lives up to the implicit promise of the Riordan name by being primarily based around folklore. In this case, African-American folklore - specifically stories about Anansi, John the Conqueror, the Flying Africans, the Gum Baby, and more. This is a graphic novel adaptation of the original book, which I have not read, so I'm going to judge it on its own merits rather than as an adaptation. And how does it fare? Pretty well, by my estimation!
Our hero, Tristan Strong, is eminently likeable. In the early pages, we learn that he's failing to live up to his family's expectations of becoming a boxer, and mourning the death of his friend Eddie, who was collecting folklore and mythology in a journal. Poor Tristan is hurting - he's full of survivor's guilt that makes him reluctant to engage with anything beyond finding the journal, which has been stolen by Gum Baby. (Who is, by the way, ridiculously likeable.) In trying to get it back, he releases a haint from a bottle tree, then falls into the world of Alke where these myths are true. Tristan's a very sympathetic hero. He's got that core of strength and resilience, but has realistic human flaws and failings. His reluctance to get involved and grief over his friends are very real emotions, and his arc from discouraged kid to hero is both engaging and satisfying. Tristan is an Ananseem, a storyteller who can affect reality with his words. Longtime readers of this blog will know that I just love stories about stories, and this one does not disappoint. It's particularly relevant given how African and African-American stories were forbidden by the white captors of enslaved people; Tristan is both connecting with his dead friend by telling the stories, and connecting with wider African-American culture.
Speaking of, the stories! The folklore used in this book will be familiar to anyone with a passing knowledge of African-American myth and legend - Brer Fox, Anansi, Gum Baby, haints - with some new additions to build the world of Alke. These include the Fetterlings, living chains that attempt to capture the heroes, brand flies, which burn those around them, and Uncle Cotton, who leads the Bone Ships. Yeah, this isn't exactly subtle, but I don't think it's to the story's detriment. After all, it's aimed at younger readers, and it still makes the point well enough. The horrors that enslaved people experienced are memorialised as much as the gods and heroes of their culture; both sides of the experience are represented here.
My only real criticism of this one is that the pacing felt a bit too fast in most places - the narrative didn't really have a lot of room to breathe. I wonder, though, if that's a result of the adaptation more than a fault of the original. Graphic novels have fewer pages to work with, after all. The art, however, was stunning, a realistic style that reminded me of modern superhero comics while still being able to carry the more fantastical or emotional beats. It's a good little read! I might see if I can track down the original at some point, just to compare.
Next up, back into history, and to my historical problematic fave Charles I.

My favorite part of the Mario movie is funnily enough the dialogue, with which I also have an unfortunate pet peeve
The dialogue, in order, isn't really all that deep. Nobody is trying to be smart and dissect one another, they're all simply accepting one another at fave value because right now the world needs people who can fight and no one would complain if you fought on their side. It's simple, it's not problematic, not complicated and it allows the story to truly just be a really simple yet classic Mario plot where someone gets taken and Mario crosses the world itself to get that someone back.
However my pet peeve with maybe Illumination, probably Nintendo, is that the cast did not shine as much as I had hoped they would which to me feels like a double edged sword. The movie delivered in what it set out to do without trying to be smart or clever or depend exclusively on a famous cast.
I can't help and think of this from a marketing standpoint, however, as hiring a cast who do have a very impressive impressive collective resume to show "Hey we're making sure we deliver a high quality product," which is I guess the mission statement for Nintendo isn't it.

Favorite legendary (æsthetically or collection wise)? 😄✨
OoH! there's a lot of legys i like, but my favourite is without a doubt astralaria!
I liked the collection a lot but the aesthetic definitely wins this one!
I'm a sucker for gold/blue palettes, I think they're so pretty, and I've also been a huge fan of spacey and celestial aesthetics (so a lot of my other fave skins are things with moons or stuff on)
I love the draw effects with the yellow burst, and the footfalls and trail and projectiles aaa!! I love this axe so so much.
I have a character for almost every class that can use astralaria! I know it's a lot of the same colours and aesthetics, but I really love working with them and figuring out what I can pair with the weapon, one of my fave things is how lovely the stardust jackal skin looks with it when you dye it blue and gold:
Tumblr media
also okay. I know this wasn't the question, but I can't resist an obligatory demonstration of the astralaria-using gang!! so that's down there V
Alaethau, my first astralaria user:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's a priory researcher and astronomer! Also in game, he's a druid and his pets are named after constellations (Lacerta for his eletric wyvern because lizard and Eridanus for his aqua stalker because river)
I'm generally more of an armor combo fan over outfits, but I love him in this sm it fits him so well (he is literally an astral scholar aha..) and the shoulder in yellow looks like the draw effect to me!
Cyhydla:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is Alaethau's sort of daughter ?? (when you resuscitate a sylvari from a pod that's been blown away from the pale tree and disconnected from the dream with your husband, I guess you're probably adopting them)
She's a mirage which is wonderful for the projectiles! the axes are just flying everywhere!!
Astronomer Iddrin:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's another priory astronomer, one of Alaethau's colleagues! Her sister, Magister Keelu is intended to use meteorlogicus to match her but I haven't finished it yet! Ooops!
she isn't 80 yet, so doesn't have her armour combo! (while not dyed right because armour preview dyes never are, it's something like this:
Tumblr media
(ignore the fact she is mid-blink and looking so goofy) and she's planned to be a spellbreaker!
Avordelle:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is my problematic girl from a different tree (where I'm theming them all with more celestial sort of aesthetics, because I like doing that) who is causing lots of trouble, at said tree! She's a firebrand!
Lastly, Réaltléas!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's a whispers agent and navigator who uses the stars to navigate. She's a bit less developed than the rest, but I like her <3 She's not level 80 yet either, and this is her intended armour combo, which I love and think is adorable:
Tumblr media
She's intended to be a scourge at 80!

i saw you mention some ocs in that tag-the-oc that’s always on your mind. i’d love to hear a little bit about them!
Hiiii
Tumblr media
I always describe Trishe Horton as a methodical plant enthusiast who's real intense about gardening and farming, bullet journaling/studying, and cooking for her loved ones. She's pan. She has a real soft earthy aesthetic that contrasts so well with her resting bitch face, firm tone, and dark humor.
I attach music genres to my ocs. It's how I make sense of them. Trishe isn't much of a music person (really my only oc where that's the case, pretty wild) but she's in the lofi beats, alt rock and folk rock, international jazz realms with a hint of r&b courtesy of her best friend, Di, another one of my ocs.
Trishe is hilarious to me. Her dialogue is so much fun, especially since her voice is in the lower register and the tone doesn't change too drastically when she speaks. Some examples of dialogue/Trishie actions:
"If I had the grim reaper’s number, I’d send him my location like three times a day. Just in case he wants to make his week a little more spicy. Perhaps break a few rules."
"Gender doesn’t create Haku. Haku creates gender,” Trishe explains. “That’s my claim. Furthermore, Haku is a dragon who disguises himself as an alleged human boy. So, that’s even more evidence that he doesn’t play by the rules of the straights. So, really, he’s genderless. Not androgynous at all if you look at the bigger picture. I can write a whole dissertation on this.”
Trishe would do these tedious dares like “Go outside and pick exactly 40 blades of grass with a pair of tweezers.” Everyone is like “We don’t have a lawn.” Trishe is like, “I’m aware,” with a dead serious face on.
She's very responsible despite how indifferent she is to hearing people describe her as such. She can't deny that she enjoys leading or facilitating things. Her tendency to be straightforward can get her in trouble, but she can and will provide cushion for loved ones whenever someone confronts her about it. Big reveal: She's actually one of my mushiest ocs.
If you ask her, she'll say she values honesty, spirituality and sour cream and onion chips.
Nadji White. This is my baby boy. He's been with me since I was like 13/14, and actually started out as a side character that I used to nurture one of my other characters for a bit, but as Nadj usually does he was like, "Naaaah, I'm stayin lol" and that he did.
Best way I can describe him is goofy new york nigga. Like, for real. He's always been that, but definitely has had some major development this year. Astronomical.
Lets start off with some random facts that come to mind. He's the eldest of four. He's heavy into comics (mainly Marvel) and viddy games. The genres of music I associate him with are (mainly...bc damn, he has so many playlists) diff kinds of rap but especially Chicago rap, funk - most of his music has funk elements, and alt r&b in the steve lacy/frank ocean arena. He also loves trap beats made from gaming music and old cartoon theme songs.
Also, he's very intense about cereal. Ask me to explain his theory about Kix. I dare you.
Nadji draws! Ask him and he'll say he's a graffiti artist first. Started out doing caricature art in high school, then moved to comics and graffiti and street art on both wall and canvas. He has an art collective that he puts together over the years, starting in high school (that I still haven't named lol). They too are my faves.
All of them brought together because of art but they like to think of themselves as a "we do whatever the fuck we feel" kind of crew so there are musicians, actors, and models. There's a photographer/filmmaker, someone crochets and makes rugs, someone does hair, they do comedy sketches, there's a fashion designers, someone paints. another dances. And so on.
Nadj is definitely a problematic fave. He can be a sweetie, but he's so damn mean when he wants to be. As well as selfish. Stupid lol. His growth as a character is one that even surprises me. Oh also should mention he is indeed a part of the alphabet mafia.
I'll leave it there for now. Thank you for asking bout my babies.
