last chronological part for stem koo... WHEW I WATCHED THEM GROW WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN NOW
Tumblr media
cold senior!y/n x stem major koo masterlist :D
they finally become lunchbox lovers
“you’re asking me what’s jungkook like?”
jimin couldn't be any more surprised
first of all, his day started with yOU texting him and asking if you can drop by for a second, and the moment he texted "sure???", you're literally already knocking on the door
and second, you're asking him???
“oh come on. he clings to you with every chance he gets. i thought you gave him a chance already.”
your eyes only deadpan that jimin actually gets the hint, his mouth curling in a eureka moment that he managed to figure out himself without you talking
“oH! so that’s why you’re asking me because you’re thinking of giving him an actual chance.”
alright finally
you slump in relief over not saying it out loud, expressing the slightest bit of worry you have to someone (that's not as close to you like yoongi and jin are) who'd get where you're coming from without bias
“i just wanna know how he usually is when he’s not on my heels.”
“honestly? the same. probably even a bit more clingier.”
jimin wastes no time in ratting jungkook out, even leaning back to the couch with how relaxed he is
“talks about you too. i’m sorry y/n but even i know what shampoo you use!!!”
jimins knows your wHAT
"my shampoo???"
“mhmm. made me drive him to a grocery store at 10 in the evening so he can individually smell all the shampoos without anyone calling him a creep or something like that,” he nods earnestly and doesn't look like he's playing with you or the sort
you're quite frozen and jungkook's roommate isn't at all fazed and is even pulling up pICTURES of their impromptu grocery trip
“he even made it in a scientific paper format. with the hypothesis and conclusion and everything.”
he points it out just in time when you swipe to jimin's hand holding a printed piece of paper with the document in the monitor right behind it, the next pictures being blurry because that's when jungkook freaked out
jimin gets his phone back but not without sending you the pictures you just saw even if you didn't ask for them, trying to hide the amusement in your eyes when you decide to scroll through them again later
“cut him some slack though. he’s never really had a girlfriend, y’know? or like even a crush. he’s just navigating it with his instincts and all the advice he gets.”
hold on a second
“... advice?”
he thought you'd never ask (he'll still say it even if you don't) which is why he brightly grins, hunching over as if to let you in on a guarded secret
“i’m one of his consultants!!! didn’t suggest the shampoo part though.”
who could have possibly thought of that idea then ://
you hum in faux complacency, trying to get this as fast as possible so you could make up your mind quicker
“what else?”
jimin's relaxed now that he's had a proper laugh with you and realized you aren't as Intimidating As He Thought You Were, recounting the things in his mind like a to-do list
“he’s sickeningly kind.”
the gravity of his words strike him before they do with you, straightening his posture to clear up the air right away, “but i knoW that what he did to you is the furthest thing from kind, and trust me, i really got that point across!!!”
by point, jimin means cooking him burnt meals and jungkook having to endure it because he doesn't like wasting food
additionally, that also meant jimin served kook a cRISP smack on the back of his boba ball head into next week
look at him <3 seokjin, yoongi AND jimin gave him shit!!! now isn;t that teamwork
you're unable to paint the mental image in your head because he continues, grabbing your attention once again
“but apart from that, jungkook could just be too kind for his own sake,” he says sincerely. “he’s like the kid the principal refers to in elementary when they talk about peer pressure!!!”
your first instinct is to snort at that, the mental image definitely forming in your head now
is it just sO bad that you and jimin agree on this
“jokes aside, jungkook’s really genuine.”
it's the last thing jimin wraps it off with when you stand from the couch, cheeks still a little warm when he trails you behind the door
you're just about to thank him when the door in front of you opens and almost hits you in the process, the person behind it just as alarmed
jungkook’s just now coming home because he had to pick up some last-minute groceries from the convenience store downstairs that jimin forgot from his last run, clearly startled to why would wou be here
"oH???? y/n??? what are you doing here???"
his pupils are shaking between the two of you and he's not even trying to hide is incoming panic
“.... a-are you and jimin-“
“yup! sorry bud! we were just-...” jimin's attempt at a lighthearted joke is halted as fast as it was introduced, getting a smack on the middle of his back that makes him wince
“you’re annoying, jimin."
oOOOOH you just put your palm on him!! yea at this rate he's gonna be your best friend too won't he
jungkook's processing things as fast as he could, getting a reassuring glance from you that puts him at ease
“we were just talking, kook.”
he nods even if he's still a tiny bit unsure, calling for you when you're on your way out the door
“a-about what though?”
:-)
“you’d know soon enough.”
( ♡ )
“you wanna tell me now why we went on this drive?”
seokjin yawns at a stoplight even when his car is the only one waiting on the intersection right now, not in the mood for a ticket with a printed traffic light picture of him mid-yawn in his matching pajamas anytime soon
“no reason," you sing-song and it makes him snort, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. “couldn’t sleep."
“well that makes one of us.”
you've unabashedly knocked on jin's door and even if it took you two tries, he still answered nonetheless, not even asking for an explanation why before he sleepily took his keys and grabbed his house slippers for shoes
you had no destination in mind at 3 in the morning which is why jin’s just driving for no rhyme nor direction and is just going with his brain’s one-second impulses of where to turn
he’s game for anything, actually — that much you know
although you do know that jin literally wouldn't do this for anyone else besides the people he find worth all this (aka everyone except you and yoongi and ok maybe namjoon sometimes)
the drive is beyond serene and even with repetitive radio music playing in the background, you don't actually mind it
when you're with jin, it just feels like you're in a constant bubble of comfort and ease that you always try to look for in everything
he doesn't necessarily need explanations,, he just deduces from things at face-value and later ask about it when you're comfortable enough to share
jin points at a drive-thru he suddenly had a craving for as you were about to suggest it anyway
you're not even quite sure why there's a line but neither of you complain, the situation more than bearable that a little waiting wouldn't dampen your mood
the words you've been thinking of the whole day finally slip across the silence, as casual yet as sincere as they could be
“i’m really thankful that you’re in my life, jin. you know that right?”
he seems pleasantly surprised when you look at his side profile, shaking his head
“mhmm. you only tell me a couple times but you put your knee on top of mine everyday,” he chuckles at the habit of yours and he kNOWS for a fact you would put your knee on top of his if only he wasn't behind the wheel. “tell me all about it, kid.”
it's genuine laughter that encompasses the whole car, his chuckles suddenly ceasing when he realizes another possibility
“you’re not asking me for allowance, are you? because yoongi’s already bugging me for his next month’s.”
wait what
“you give yoongi an allowance???”
“you didn’t know???”
:///
“... i’m not asking for an allowance.”
“..... but do you want it,.,..”
jin sees you pursing your lips and intentionally looking at everywhere but him, already getting his answer
“fine. that’s the furthest you two could get from me!! don’t expect me to pack your lunchboxes to school now. you must be crazy.”
jin, in fact, packs you and yoongi lunchboxes more often than not
jin, aLSO, does all the paper rolling for you so when the three of u get occasionally high, it’s all nice and tight
jin is also the one who does all the talking on the phone to customer service when neither of you are willing
he asks the moment he relays your usual midnight snack slash early breakfast order he's already memorized to the attendant, patiently looking at you
“you want anything else with that?”
“i’m all good.”
it's in between cars and stoplights that the car is filled with more emotion again, acting on it when you realize it when seokjin's mid-bite on his hashbrowns
“jin?”
“yes?” he speaks muffled, looking at you once before bringing his attention back on the changing stoplight
“love you.”
he feels himself still for a second even if his foot's on the gas and one hand is on the wheel, a somber look on his face that he later smiles sincerely
“love you too, kid.”
( ♡ )
“it’s not my birthday if that’s what you’re thinking.”
yoongi sleepily mumbles the moment he feels his bed dipping, his side that was once holding a pillow now being occupied by you
“i know.”
you wedge yourself between his heavy comforter, tossing and turning until it feels comfortable
“but i actually don’t know your birthday lol it’s-...”
“fuck right off.”
yoongi doesn't question why you're in his bed, because the last time you did, it was because you were left traumatized after seeing a genuinely good horror movie that it was pending to give you nightmares
he didn't see you watch any movie today though, but he'll take you in nonetheless
“kidding.”
you offer in consolation because yoongi's birthday is in your calendar even if you know it by heart, a mindless hum in reply
it's when you drop your arm on his waist like it's dead weight and relax completely, your face near to his mop of hair that it's making him think you're actually cuddling him rn
quick how can he get a picture of this to get this framed
“are you telling me now?”
he questions with his eyes half-open, shimmying backwards so that you're able to hug him more comfortably
“my airconditioner’s busted.”
“mhmm. give me ten minutes. i’ll fix it for you.”
it's 4 am and if your airconditioner really was busted, you wouldn't have let it stay busted for that long
“don’t. it’s okay. i wanna be here anyways.”
both you and yoongi know that your airconditioner’s in tip-top shape and is actually the one that blows the coldest air in the dorm
sometimes you think he’s an angel in disguise because there’s no way you deserve a human best friend like him
“yoongs?”
“hmm?” he hums before he falls asleep again, trying to keep up while having his eyes closed so he could listen to you
“you know that i’m really glad you’re in my life, right?”
oh
:)
“mhmm. you don’t say, sweets," he teasingly chuckles, feeling his ribcage rise in amusement under your arm
“fuck-“
“yeah, i know. i do, because you put me as your family member in your emergency contacts, but you don’t know that i know that.”
... oh
you don't even know how yoongi came to know but you don't question it, the warmth in your heart doubling
“love you.”
“love you too, y/n.”
( ♡ )
jungkook’s the most nervous he’s been in awhile
and that’s coming from him who sees yoongi in almost a daily basis
after all, jin did tell him you can be quite forgetful becasue you tend to take care of things all at once
he’ll sTILL try to be as smooth and casual as much as possible though
“big game tomorrow huh?”
and by big game that means as in your last qualifying game to whether or not your team would compete in the yearly (not to mention prestigious) soccer tournament
you chuckle at the thought because by now, you should already be sleeping and getting some rest even if it’s just seven in the evening
but you’re here <3 out at a park near jungkook’s dorm, sharing hand warmers <3
“yeah. it’s a make or break match.”
“i actually haven’t seen you play before, y’know," jungkook silently admits, looking down on his shoes as he thinks if he's just offended you
“really?” you ask in genuine curiosity, “then how come you interviewed me for your little survey when you haven’t watched me play before?”
oh
tHAT
“i uh, i actually just really wanted to talk to you that day. i-i don’t normally approach people first, but you just looked warm enough for me to reach out first.”
he's babbling before he even knows it, oblivious the growing smile on your face
“then i asked jimin because he kNOWS everything, and it was all in good fate that it turned out you were the soccer captain!! i was excited because i had a legitimate reason to talk to you that day.”
so that’s why
he wanted to talk to you even before his lunchboxes were taken out of the situation!!!
“how about me? why was it me?”
ahem
you're not trying to be funny but you can't help but chuckle, scratching the back of your ear in thought
“i honestly couldn’t tell either, jungkook.”
he almost coughs in shock, masking it off with playing it off for the bite of the chill of the night
“all i know is that something told me it was you,” you timidly add, looking down on your hands. “and i went for it.”
right can he chalk up mad blushing to the night air
he fiddles with the drawstrings of his sweatpants this time, his eye contact with you becoming fidgety
“big game tomorrow,” he repeats and you're just about to tell him that your conversation sounds like it's gonna be repeated
“don’t forget your eyedrops, alright?”
....
was that smooth enough
“eyedrops?”
yeah
uhm
that was... random
“oh right! you gave them back to me.”
“yeah. you should open it tonight, probably. to see if it’s already all-evaporated, y’know? if it is, then let me know tomorrow so i can buy you new ones.”
“highly doubt that they would, but alright, kook.”
you take the little banter to be your cue to walk back to your dorm, about to say goodbye to him when he makes an audible sound of confusion
it confuses you even more when he's trailing behind you
“your dorm’s twenty feet away from where we are, jungkook.”
“y-yeah i know that!! i’m walking you home, silly.”
right!!
hee-hee
he’s keeping his hands to himself even if he BADLY wants to hold your hand or even your forearm but he has to resist that urge rn
but he does intentionally brush shoulders with you and mumble “pothole.” so he could nUDGE you to the side even if there aren’t any to begin with
silence with jungkook now is comfortable as it has been for more than awhile, the walk passing by faster that you almost wish you walked slower
goddamn it he should've said there was a pothole atleast ten more times to make the walk longer
“goodnight, koo.”
“goodnight, y/n.”
there’s obviously no goodnight kiss but he dOES get a squeeze on his bicep
you take your time when you come home — to unwind as much as you could before you stress yourself out tomorrow
your shower routine may have took a little longer this time but it makes you get dressed as quick as you could when your eyes see the origami box you've been putting off from opening, one that jungkook just told you to open, because as far as you knew they were just EYEDROPS!!!
... the supposed bottle of eyedrops that’s too well-packaged and clearly thought-out
an origami box, a carebear heart initial drawstring pouch AND a plain ziplock baggie as if the other two weren’t enough
it’s when you open the box within the ziplock bag that you feel it’s definitely not as light as a bottle of eyedrops would be
there’s a very visible dent weighing down on the pouch (that’s within the origami box) that’s cLEARLY not your eyedrops
you’re actually nervous to the point that you just open unfurl it with your eyes closed, feeling two items in there
the plastic bottle of eyedrops, and definitely the cool surface of what feels like
a bracelet?
it’s a pretty straightforward yet timelessly elegant silver link bracelet, equipped with a couple options for how tight or loose you want to wear it
it hits you all at once and god does it just render you speechless
jungkook has this bracelet too.
you’re quite speechless and in between looking at it up-close to avoiding looking at it at all, trying to calm your breathing by focusing on the eyedrops instead
the said eyedrops you've been so used to seeing that you immediately sense that there's something oFF with the label???
its stuck-on, that's for sure, but something about it is not as seamless and stationary and official as it should be
it's almost as if there's something snuck inside it and-
...
..... there is
it's scotch tape that's just as thin as the actual label of the bottle itself, having to peel the whole label in order to see it in entirety
it's the same double-sided label jungkook worked so hard to peel flawlessly so he could try and replicate it in the same exact design and measurements, having to even take it up to a classmate from stem he once knew that transferred to graphic design
(yeonjun did ask for a science paper in exchange for his replication of the eyedrops slash adhesive label because who fucking kNEW he still had science even when in graphic design, but jungkook thinks it's fair trade so it's worth it)
it's the same exact label jungkook's had for a month and only recently gave it to you a week ago, a truth he's long since known
it's the same exact label that reads —
i love you
— in his handwriting you've come to known by heart, the label in your hand feeling much more heavy than the bracelet in the other
you already know what to do.
.
.
.
it's game day and u are about to launch yourself into orbit if you hear oNE more drum cheer because it just makes you nervous even more
yeah SURE it makes you pumped when it's the actual game itself but not now!!! not now when you're pumping yourself with electrolytes and at the risk of peeing from nervousness and too much hydration
you haven't seen seokjin nor yoongi yet and as much as that lessens the pressure on you, that alsO makes you nervous because they're your emotional support people!!!! where r they
usually you would see them in the front row of the bleachers and neither of them have any snacks because all of their focus would be on you
jin is nOT mr. kim from student affairs when it comes to your games,,, nuh-uh sir,,, he's that guy from the other team that glares so hard it dISTRACTS me from scoring in the perspective of the opposing team
coach's about to whistle like five minutes from now for a final huddle and everyone's getting their final stretches in
you're too busy looking for people that you actually want to be here that you're taken off-guard when one of them grasps at your forearm, a breathless smile one his face
"give them hell out there, alright. you're a champ."
it's jungkook!!!
IT'S JUNGKOOK!!!!@&$&":@:"$
he looks especially handsome today that you just short-circuit immediately
he's wearing a shirt with your team colors on it aND!!!
he ditched his glasses today to wear contacts, not only because he wanted to look a bit more different and special today, but because he's also scared that a ball would be thrown in his direction and injure him with the additional impact of his glasses
his hair's pushed back with his forehead showing instead of his usual hairstyle and god is it making you a little dizzy
he's beaming at you and his eyes immediately wander to your wrist, not expecting the feeling in his gut next
you're not wearing the bracelet.
jungkook feels the sudden urge to cry even when in public but it's when you grip at his forearm tightly that he stays still, squeaking when you realize his line of thought
"can't wear any jewelry on the field. i-i'm wearing your bracelet as an anklet for the meantime, it's underneath my sock."
...
....
...... oh my god
jungkook's never felt this frozen and euphoric at the same time, sputtering over nothing when your face looks like the furthest thing from joking
you're about to excuse yourself suddenly when your eyes finally take notice what's thrown on his shoulder, something about it being so familiar that it throws you off for awhile
"is that my jersey?"
he nods eagerly to your query, proudly unfolding it for you to see your spare soccer jersey with your surname and number right on it, the exact marks being the same from when you tried to use a laundry pen on it
he didn't get it replicated???
"h-how did you get that? where did you get that?"
jungkook thought you'd never ask, the words he never thought he'd say already leaving his lips
"yoongi gave it to me."
you only have a handful of jerseys on-hand and even if you could always request for more, the ones you have at home are a little more sentimental
you gave jin and yoongs one each from the only several ones you had, and you know yoongi would not give up his for jungkook
but now, you do know that he snuck to your closet and took one to give it to jungkook willingly, trusting him enough to give it to you behind your back
kook's sTILL not fully-forgiven but they're getting there sooner or later
wait why is this making you cry
before you know it, you're pushing yourself to jungkook to hug him tightly, the boy being surprised for a second but ultimately reciprocating once it registers
"i love you too."
.
.
.
.
.
this is the last chronological update for stem koo aka lunchbox lovers!! however, this is not the end of them!! with the end of this chronological series, this means that all the future updates don't necessarily have to be linked — they're miscellaneous and don't have to follow a specific layout like this part of their arc.
with that said, feel free to send in asks on what you want to see from the lunchbox lovers (misc. requests, questions, and everything in between) and i'd love to fulfill them because after all, this series was born purely out of your ideas <3 also pls send in ur thoughts and feedback and love because i have da greatest time reading through all of them!! thank you for all the love for da stem koo universe <3

Rock ‘n’ Roll People Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Part 5
Tumblr media
NOVEMBER 2008
Six. The number of days you were currently packing for to be away on what the two of you had deemed your "honeymoon-not-honeymoon".
Three years ago, when Paul proposed, the two of you had started thinking about dates and he was a sucker for them. He loved celebrating dates, something he'd learned from watching his dad admire his mother every day of the year but made certain days more meaningful than others. So you'd decided on the upcoming Saturday, three years to the date he'd proposed. And now that time was upon you. But you weren't walking down the aisle, no. The two of you were taking a trip. One you'd decided on after your big blow out just little over a month ago.
Like promised, Paul had called Shutters On The Beach and found out what he could about them rearranging your wedding date. It wasn't good news but with a defeated sigh, he'd accepted their new date, twelve months from your original, just like he'd suspected. They did, however, say that if anything changed, within fair notice, that they'd call either of you with news. So with that in mind, you took some time and thought about what to do. Then one afternoon in October, over Sunday brunch at his parents, your mother suggested the two of you still take the time away like planned.
You weren't going to be gone long, nor take your official honeymoon anyway, having the date so close to the holidays and being the family people you were, you would have had your big day and then a little get away before your huge trip in February, near the anniversary the two of you'd met. It all seemed to work out just fine, really. Paul was even on board with you taking the time away, feeling you'd both earned a good change in routine. So, Rogers was more than happy to give your time, considering it was still approved and could be covered by your benefits despite being out with Paul for so many weeks.
It was a Tuesday, you having the morning shift with your team; serving warrants, search and seizure of property and even a short call to a known gang house, whilst Paul had therapy and physiotherapy. You were set to leave Thursday after breakfast for a long weekend in Vegas, pulling out Tuesday morning after a late checkout time.
"Hey Sugar?" Paul called out to you from the hall, having been in the kitchen cleaning out the fridge and on the phone with his parents. "Mom and Dad are on their way over, said they're bringing us something for the trip. Wouldn't say what."
"Okay," you giggled, knowing full well that something had to be up. Both sets of their parents were always highly forthcoming with the two of you. "Did you gas up the Tahoe?" You wondered, knowing that the two of you weren't taking your car, but rather his SUV, a 2004 Chevy Tahoe he'd been driving since his first big check on the force, that they were making final payments on to this day.
"Nope, not yet. Figured I'd do that tomorrow after I get it washed." He flopped on the bed among the piles of clothes you were sorting through. "Whatcha packin'?" He asked, twirling a pair of your barely there panties on his finger.
"Noneya," you snatched the garment from his hand. "It's Vegas, in November, so... something for everything? What are you packing?"
"Whatever I can fit on the other side," Paul chuckled glancing down at the case on the bed.
"Fair point." You chuckled as Paul grabbed you by the leg, swooping you into his lap. You laughed with a roar and he laughed along with you.
The excitement between you was magnetic and the two of you couldn't wait to leave. He started placing kisses along your neck, your free hand curling around his neck, fingers tickling at his nape.
He moaned against your skin as you smirked. "Maybe we should take a break from packing and..."
"Or..we.." but before you could finish your sentence, a loud rap on your door sounded. "Your parents are here."
"Always ruining shit...." He fake complained as he tapped your ass and you hopped off to allow him up.
The two of you headed out to answer and were surprised to see only Dot at the door.
"Hey Mom," Paul looked behind her for Jim.
"Hi, Sweetheart," Dot smiled, "Come on, follow me."
Paul looked at you with a confused frown and you shrugged, no idea what was going on either. The two of you followed Dot out to the back where your garage was, and all you could do was grin when you heard Paul gasp.
"No, no way!" He happily called out.
There was Big Jim, standing there with the keys in hand to his father's, Paul's grandfather's, all black, first generation 1967 Chevy Camaro. And a huge surprise to you, your parents were there too.
"He'd have wanted you to take it, just like we do," Jim held out the keys.
"No." He was still in disbelief as he took the keys from his dad.
"Our plan was to surprise you with it as you left your reception but since plans have deviated slightly... Have at it."
"Oh, no way!" Paul hugged his dad tightly. You grinned as you watched him pull the driver's door open and sit inside, his big hands moving over the soft, well worn leather of the steering wheel.
"And," your dad smiled warmly, handing an envelope out to you for the taking, "this is from us. A little spending cash. It's not a lot, but it'll get you guys started at the tables."
"You guys... That's not," you shook your head in disbelief but feeling deep appreciation. "Thank you." You hugged them tightly.
"Now, pile in kids, were going to dinner!" Dot exclaimed and brushed past Big Jim to their awaiting SUV.
"Wait, let me get my purse!" You quickly jogged back to the house, grabbing your bag and Paul's wallet before heading back out, closing up the apartment behind you.
While you were gone, Paul locked up the Camaro and slid into the third row of his parents Suburban, Big Jim behind the wheel, Dot beside him, your parents in the second row captain's chairs. "Alright kids, hope you're hungry."
"Where are we going?" You asked your parents as they were seated in front of you.
"Bill's," your mom replied. You looked at Paul who fist pumped a 'yes' with a grin.
Taco Tuesdays at Bill's Taco House was a favorite of yours among both sides of the families. So much so that even you and Paul had sometimes met there in your earliest months of dating for a quick bite during shifts with Barnes and Barton. The place was an LA staple that dated back to 1949.
A couple of beers and a handful of the tastiest tacos with your parents, future in-laws and Disco felt like the perfect start to your honeymoon-not-honeymoon.
It wasn't late when you'd been dropped back off at the apartment, the hour nearing eight and darkness settling over the city. You'd gotten back to packing whilst Paul showered. Then after he'd finished, you showered and he packed. The hour had gone nine and truth be told, the two of you were wired, the excitement hitting you both that your adventure was just a day away.
"Let's leave tonight," Paul blurted out, poking his head into the bathroom while you brushed your teeth, hair wrapped in a towel, your body just the same.
You spit your toothpaste in the sink and said, "what?"
He stepped in behind you and placed his big hands on your hips, kissing your bare, wet shoulder, his cheek nuzzling against yours. "Think about it, we can take the long way, swing up by the Grand Canyon like we've been talking about and drive in still on Thursday as planned. We have the car, a full tank of gas, and I'm ready to go."
You saw the sparkle in his eyes, the excitement radiating off of him. If you were honest with yourself, it sounded great, and seeing him so excited about something was a rare gem lately. You made eye contact with him in the bathroom mirror, "okay."
"Yeah?" He nipped at your neck.
"Yeah. Load up the car and give me ten minutes."
His bulky arms wrapped around you tightly and squeezed. "I'm so excited!"
You couldn't help but giggle as he left you for your ten minutes to dress and finish up packing the essentials. And ever the eager beaver, Paul sat in the driver's seat, the engine roaring to life and warming up the minute he saw you come out of the walkway from the apartment.
You set your small travel bag in the back seat and set your cross-body purse on the floorboard at your feet when Paul turned to you with a big grin.
"Ready, Sugar?"
With a giggle and a big kiss, you replied, "Drive on, Stud," against his lips.
As soon as he hit the highway, his right hand found your left and laced your fingers together. There was very little traffic, and an open road once you were out of LA. Nothing but the sounds of the radio as it faded in and out of range as you went. At some point, your hand found its way up to the back of his neck as you gently scratched and rubbed at the nape. He'd look at you every few minutes, singing to you as a song he was familiar with came on or just looking at you. You felt a warmth rush through you with each glance. Sometimes, his palm would rub along your thigh or stay there against your jeans, his thumb moving back and forth over the material.
It was a couple of hours into your drive, moving through the dark night with very little oncoming traffic passing you by and the dessert sky with its stars like diamonds painting your route, that a naughty and quirky idea, one that could get you completely banned from your careers for life, had struck your mind.
"Paul," you scooted closer to the side of your seat, your arm around his shoulder, lips against his jaw. "Stay focused." You watched him visibly swallow hard and a smirk passed your lips. Your right hand began palming him through his own denim.
"Jesus Christ, Y/N," he twitched beneath your hand. "I'll fucking crash, baby."
"Shhhh, stay focused," you purred. He was hard quickly and you popped the button on his flies, keeping him buckled in. You pulled his cock free and began stroking him in that circular motion you knew he liked so well.
He hummed deep within his chest as you pumped him with firm and slow strikes of your hand. "Fuck, Sugar, please..." it was a whine that escaped him but it didn't stop you. You'd get him just there, just enough before he'd be spent. You knew if above all else, you could push him that far and nothing of consequence would happen.
You licked you lips, just long enough for him to flick his eyes at you before you bent down, taking his pre-cum dripping head into your mouth. You knew just by the sounds he made, he was white knuckling the wheel just to stay focused on the road in front of him, but you could feel his thick member pulsing against your tongue. You could hear his breaths quicken as you bobbed up and down in the dark.
You were lost in the motions of your sweet sin with your fiancé that you barely missed his very audible "shit, shit, shit!" With a big pop of your lips as you released him, Paul's one hand pushing you off by your chin. "CHP." He managed.
Your eyes went wide and your heart raced as you started shaking in worry. Just what you two needed, to get caught, suspend or worse fired as you'd no doubt be arrested for public indecency or public oral fornication. But as quickly as the CHP Explorer had pulled up behind the Camaro, it had disappeared. Paul pulled off at the next exit, a rest stop station, no words between you.
"Holy fuck," he started chuckling, allowing himself to fully explode in laughter, you joining him. Your faces hurt when you'd finally calmed yourselves and he gave you a deep, long kiss in the front seat. "We're driving into Needles and stopping for the night. I don't care what we find with vacancy, but," his lips brushed near your ear, "I need to be inside you."
Your insides fluttered and your palms began to sweat, your core soaked and clenching around emptiness. "How far is that?"
"Thirty miles," he stated and pulled out of the rest stop and back on to the highway.
Thirty miles later, in the near dead of night and nearly all twelve hotels or motels were at capacity. Your last choice, was by far your least desirable but there was no way Paul would have made it entirely to Peach Springs, Arizona before sleep would start to overtake. He pulled the Camaro into the destitute lot of the 'Best Motel' and looked at you sympathetically. You shrugged, knowing this was your only option.
"Stay here, my gun is in the glove box." He said assuringly.
"Yeah, okay. Got mine too," you gave him a kiss and watched as he left you in the car and headed inside the motel office.
Minutes later, he emerged twirling a key in his hand and sliding into his seat. "This is probably going to be the worst eighty-bucks we've ever spent but it's all we got."
You shared a laugh as he backed away from the stall he'd been parked in and coasted to the end of the building where your room was supposed to be. You grabbed your bag from the backseat as Paul grabbed your suitcase. You let him lead the way to the door and open it with the rusty key. The sight that greeted you was comically horrifying.
The carpet was green shag with maroon walls and some odd colored sheets you weren't sure if they were stained or patterned. You looked at Paul about the same time he looked to you and the two of you roared in hysterical laughter once more.
"How many people do you think have been murdered in here?" He asked with a cringe once the laughter died down again.
"Loads. You bring your gun in?" You smirked, as if either of you would need it.
Disco grinned as he turned to you, his hands on your hips. "I’m always packing, baby."
"Good." You winked, your hands finding their way around his neck once you dropped your bags to the shag floor.
"I wasn’t talking about my G17." His lips pressed into your neck, his fingertips pulling at the hem of your tee.
"Maybe you're overdue for your inspection and cleaning, Detective Diskant."
"Yeah?" He quirked a brow. "You gonna strip me down and examine my trigger?"
"I wanna see just how many rounds you can fire," you raked your nails down his chest and rested them on the button of his denim, palming him, realizing he was already half hard.
"Sugar, the safety's off."
**********
Despite the destitute nature of the room, Paul made due on his threat to be inside Y/N. And he more than made up for the edge she'd put him on during her little stunt in the car. She was putty, boneless in his hands by the time the night had turned to day. But, alas they had a destination to get to, so, after a shared, scalding hot shower and returning the key to the office the next morning, they filled up on gas and grabbed some coffee and donuts at a hole in the wall donut shop just before the highway on-ramp.
The drive to the Grand Canyon's West End was a mere two hours from where they'd slept on the California-Arizona border the night before. The sun was warm against the glass as they sped through the desert toward their destination. Paul parked the Camaro close to the Visitors Center at the Grand Canyon West Rim.
They spent the day exploring the treasures the West Rim had to offer, from the local native tribe museum to the Skywalk, a ten foot wide, horseshoe shaped glass bridge that moved away from the canyon's rim by seventy feet with a view to the canyon floor, four thousand feet below them.
Eventually, as the day was starting to draw in, they both conceded that they should head off and find somewhere to stay for the evening before completing the final few hours’ drive into Vegas the next morning to arrive for their scheduled stay. As they made their way back to the car, Y/N excused herself to use the bathroom and Paul dipped into the visitors centre to see if he could find anything on accommodation in the area.
After a brief browse, he located a leaflet detailing The Cabins at Grand Canyon West. Figuring he had nothing to lose, he quickly called the number. He fist pumped the air when the woman he was talking to informed him they had a last minute cancellation and with a tiny white lie later (because there were other people on the standby list for a cabin) he cut the call with a smirk.
For the first time in fuck knows how long, Lady Luck had been smiling down on him.
Whistling to himself, he walked outside into the early evening sun, shades on his eyes and leaned against a set of railings, waiting for his girl. Mere moments later he spotted her emerging from the bathroom, her hair pulled away from her face, zipping up her jacket halfway.
"You know," he said, when she stood at this side, slowly removing his sunglasses in a movement reminiscent of CSI Miami’s Lt. Horatio Caine, "If I had to rate you from 1 to 10, Sugar, I'd give you a 9, because I'm the 1 you're missing."
Tumblr media
She blinked, before she threw her head back in a loud laugh, her chest rising and falling with the force of her chuckles. Eventually she looked at him and he grinned, his arm looping round her waist to pull her in for a deep kiss.
"You're such a fucking loser." She chuckled against his mouth.
"Do fucking losers snag the only single cabin left for the night after a last minute cancelation?"
"Cabin?" She frowned, her hand gently tickling at the back of his neck. "What are you talking about?
"We, my sweetness, are staying the night, right over there." He grinned, pointing to the road that led to the cabins that sat with stunning views on a slightly more elevated peak than where they currently stood.
"What?" She gasped. "How...those things are booked up months in advance!"
"Like I said, last minute cancelation. And I may have pulled the ‘I'm going to propose to my future wife and our original plans fell through’ card.”
“So you lied?” She smirked. “And as an officer of the law, shame on you Paul Diskant.”
“It’s only a half lie.” He shrugged. “Technically our original plans did fall though.”
“This isn’t a joke, is it? Like, you’re not going to drive me up there and then laugh and take me to another Muder Motel are you?”
“No.” Paul shook his head. “I promise.”
He watched as her face split into a huge grin and she leaned up to kiss him again. “I love you.”
"I love you too," Paul smiled, "like so so much love you."
She beamed at him, and it was the same smile he saw every time he uttered those three words. It lit up her face, her eyes shone and sparkled in the same way they had all those years ago when he told her he loved her for the first time…
It was a Thursday evening, both of them had the Friday off shift and as such had headed out for dinner and a few drinks. They were two months into their relationship now, and had spent almost every bit of spare time they could together, and simply put it still wasn’t enough for Paul. He could listen to her talk and laugh for hours, and not to mention the sex. Fuck, it was mind blowing.
As they walked into the small bar, he held the door for Y/N, who stepped in before him. There was a small table over at the far side and Paul told her to head over and grab it whilst he grabbed their drinks. It wasn’t too busy, so five minutes or so later he made his way over to the table, two beers in hand, to find Y/N was looking at someone over the other side of the room.
“Everything okay?” Paul asked as he sank onto the bench of the booth beside her, his arm dropping round her shoulders.
"Oh, peachy." She rolled her eyes. "We just so happened to step into the bar of all the bars in LA where my ex happens to be. On the same night."
Paul stiffened a little before he took a drink of his beer. "Which one is he?"
"That one, 4 o'clock."
Paul glanced around, and his eyes fell on a dark haired guy lounging at another booth, flicking through a paper. He let out a soft groan, he'd been hoping to be able to come up with some quick quip about her having shit taste in men, but to be honest, the guy was pretty damned good looking.
"Not bad." he muttered. "Obviously, I'm much more of a catch but..."
"Trust me, I'm far better off," she kissed just under his jaw. "He looks pretty on the outside, but, he wouldn't know a Glock from a Barretta, nor could he really decipher a fish from a frog. He ain't got nothing on you babe, inside and out.”
His ego suitably massaged and nerves restored to normal, Paul grinned and pressed a soft kiss to her lips as his eyes glanced at her ex once more. “Well if he dumped you for someone else then that goes without saying. He's clearly dumb as shit."
“That’s an understatement. He's a total dick. You know, I've arrested him twice since.”
“Is being a total dick an arrestable offence, now?” Paul raised an eyebrow and she laughed.
“No, but being drunk and disorderly in public is. Dumb bastard didn’t learn the first time either.”
Their conversation switched then to their respective days at work, before they chatted a little about their plans for the next few days, both once again happy to be taking advantage of the fact they had a house to themselves, this time Paul’s as his parents were away for a week. Their drinks soon empty, Paul headed for another round and when he came back, Y/N beamed at him, before her smile slipped a little as her eyes followed someone behind him.
“Well I’ll be…”
“What?”
“The girl, the one that’s…” She nodded towards her ex and Paul arched his brow, slightly peeved she’d mentioned him again. “That’s who he ditched me for! As if they’re still together.”
Paul turned round, more out of curiosity than anything and he couldn’t help but let out a snort, suddenly understanding her indignation. “Seriously? Fuck, no wonder you got offended. She looks like she fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way-“ he trailed off as he caught a proper look at the woman, her familiar profile registering in his brain. “Oh my god that’s Tanya!” “Wait, as in Tiny Tanya, with her man hands?” Y/N’s look of shock turned into one of out and out amusement as she twigged that her ex was with his ex. And more to the point, an ex he’d just called butt ugly. “No way!” “Yeah, this night just got weird. We need to go.” Paul mumbled, thrusting the pint glass at her. “Down that and let’s get out of here.”
And get out of there they did. They headed to another bar a few down and spent the rest of their night in there, and were the complete wrong side of drunk when they hailed a cab back to his parents. They were giggling hysterically when they crashed through the door, Paul hastily turning to her, his finger over his lips.
“Shhhh.”
“Shhhh what do you mean shhhh they're not home you dumbass!”
“Oh yeah.” Paul grinned, shutting the door behind them. No sooner had he done that, Y/N advanced on him,  her body pressing to his and he arched a brow as he looked down at her.
“Hey, Disco,” she hiccupped as she grabbed his crotch making him grunt. “ Could tiny hands Tanya...no wait...tiny Tanya hands... man Tanya... whatever, could she make you purr like this?” “You're terrible,” Diskant rolled his eyes as his mouth hovered over hers, his teeth nipping at her lip, “absolutely criminal.” “Maybe you should arrest me.” She teased, pulling back a little, a smirk crossing her face, eyes glazed with a combination of lust and excitement. Or maybe alcohol. Most likely all three, actually, when he thought about it.
"You'd like that, huh," Paul teased, "pushing you against the wall, cuffing your hands back like some criminal."
"Promise?"
A blaze tore through his eyes as his lips latched to hers in a desperate and dirty all tongue kiss. Her hands found his belt and button-zipper to his jeans, frantically trying to undo them. But he was quick to grab her wrists and pin her hands above her head, locking them agasint the wall single handedly. His free hand worked at the hem of her dress, searching for her panties.
"You have the right to remain silent." He breathed against her neck, his right hand finding its way inside her lace underwear, past what he knew was a neatly trimmed patch of hair and bare, velvety soft outer lips. "Anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law." His thumb pressed into her clit as his index finger slipped through her slick. A deep moan escaped Y/N's lips and Paul lowly chuckled. "You have the right to an attorney," his finger slipped into her soaked channel. "If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you." A second stretched her blissfully. "Do you understand these rights as I have explained them to you?" His fingers stopped their minstrations as his eyes bore into her, awaiting an answer.
"So I have the right to remain silent?" She huffed out, her body shaking against him.
"Can you?" Paul asked mere millimeters from her lips.
"Nope." She whispered.
"Good, don't want you to," he managed before kissing her until they were both breathless, pressing her deeper into the wall.
"You want me to talk dirty, Officer Diskant?"
"I wanna hear everything," he let her go, removed his hand from her aching insides to grip at her waist, plucking her from the floor easily.
Y/N's legs wrapped around his narrow hips, her ankles locking at the small of his back. Paul grabbed her by the underside of her ass and carried her from the entry to the living room, just to their left. Depositing her onto the couch all the while never leaving her lips. The entire move was surprisingly coordinated despite their dual intoxication.
However, what wasn’t coordinated was the way her legs, still wrapped around his waist, jerked him down towards her and the force of the movement combined with the fact he was a little unsteady on his feet sent him stumbling over the top of her, and the pair of them rolling onto the floor.
"Fuck, are you okay?" His eyes went wide as Y/N broke out in giggles. With a smirk, he started in at her neck, exactly where he'd learned to make her gasp and curl her body into his. "Want you," he crooned as his mouth fell over the exposed cleavage her dress provided, his free hands now sliding up under her dress, pulling down at the sides of her lace to expose her to him. He tossed the material to the floor and raked his dull nails over the insides of her legs, making the most elicit purr escape her throat.
"Oh fuck," she squirmed. "Fuck, that feels so good."
"I'm. Just. Getting. Started." Diskant kissed agasint her thighs.
"You gonna eat that pussy before you fuck it? You gonna stuff that big, thick cock deep ins... Oh fuck," she cried out as his tongue glided over her centre, a growl emitting from him agasint her clit.
He'd not seen this side of her yet, and good God it was fucking ridiculous how hot it made him. His good girl, total badass at work, soft and beautiful, good girl could have a filthy mouth on her and he was all in.
Obscenities flowed out of her as he licked and lapped at all of the areas she was soaked. "So sweet, baby," he licked then kissed at her clit, "such a good girl, Sugar."
She stilled and he felt her prop herself on her elbows. He peeked up at her, a little shyly as she looked at him, before she burst out laughing.
“Sugar?”
“Yeah, okay... it just...” he shook his head before he shoved her gently in the chest so she lay back flat down, “you’re still under caution...” his teeth nipped at her thighs and she quivered, letting out a squeak.
“Tell me about it, Stud.” She sniggered and that was it. With a chuckle of his own his mouth latched onto her pussy and he gave her everything he had. He made her cum with an absolute body quaking force, visible tremors vibrating through her thighs and tummy.
He helped her ride out her high, mouth and fingers buried over and in her until she was heaving for breath. He kissed his way up her exposed belly, over her mounded breasts still covered by her dress before finding her lips and lolling his tongue around with hers. He knew she could taste remnants of herself on his tongue and she wasn't shy about it.
Again her fingers clawd for his belt and Paul let her pull him free as his arms caged her in, palms flat agasint the rug on either side of her head. He breathed into her ear, "get naked."
“Is this a strip search?”
A quirked brow and mischievous smirk spread over his face, "Definitely."
“I’m not sure I consent to that, Officer.” She quipped back.
He pushed himself up to his knees as he towered over her, reaching behind his neck and pulled at the collar of his polo, his built, board chest on full display, semi soft abs twitching as he balanced his weight between his core and knees as he leaned down to cage her in again, his necklace dragging across her chest. “No?” He nipped at that spot on her neck making her groan again. “Sure about that?”
“You need to work on your interrogation technique.” She whispered as his teeth nipped at her skin.
“Well take your clothes off and I’ll have you spilling all your darkest secrets in seconds.”
He ravished her with hot, open mouthed kisses, a nip here or there followed by a gentle touch of his lips to soothe the skin. Her left hand moved to the back of his neck, scratching at his hair whilst with her right, she palmed him as his free hand popped the buttons on her sundress, the material falling away like an opened dress shirt. His strong hand curved around her hip as his other still bore his weight over her.
His eyes took her in, nearly naked, only her bra remained as the material of her dress led beneath her like a small blanket against the rug. She brought herself to her elbows, the short sleeves of her dress slipping down her arms. One at a time she pulled them free. Paul's eyes watched each move she made, entranced.
“Okay, I consent.” She looked at him from beneath heavy lidded eyes before she smirked, pulling his head down to hers, “but only if you don’t go easy on me, Officer.”
He groaned into her mouth, for he had no plans of going easy.
“You’ve been resisting arrest...” his lips hovered over hers, “I can use reasonable force to ensure you comply.”
"What's gonna get me unreasonable force?"
“If I deem you a threat to life... which, is a very real possibility coz you’re killing me Y/N."
"Then you better go hard before you die."
“I’m already fucking hard.” He mumbled, grinding his pelvis into hers as he reached up with one hand, pulling down the cups of her bra.
"Jesus, fuck" she mewled, the pressure of his cock head sliding along her folds, kissing her still sensitive clit was near too much.
His mouth trailed down her sternum between her breasts as his hand skated up her bare side, fingers trailing her heated skin. He nipped the area under her right breast, just at the top of her rib cage before his mouth latched into her nipple, tongue violently flicking. She arched her back, crying out at his assault as he made good on his promise not to go easy.
“Disco... just...” she squirmed as he smirked against her skin, “fucking fuck me already.”
His already open jeans and boxer briefs were half down his ass and with a quick shove of her feet along his thighs the clothing slipped down his thighs for maneuverability. She was more than ready to take all of him and fuck was he going to give it to her. Each and every inch he had, buried deep inside her.
With a strong, firm roll of his hips the head of his cock slipped between her folds. It took all of his self control to keep himself from burying straight to the hilt but he didn’t. Instead he pulled his pelvis away leaving her scrabbling at his back with her nails, her palm flattening at the base of his spine as she desperately tried to urge him forward.
“You’re fucking greedy tonight.” He grit out from between his teeth, the tendons in his neck straining with his words before he gave her what she wanted and slammed inside her.
"Don't fucking stop."
“I’ve no,” another hard thrust, “intention of stopping, Sugar.”
"Oh fuck, that feels so fucking good."
“How good?” He groaned as he added a dirty grind. “Use your words, baby.”
"Oh fuck that pussy so good."
“You’ve got a mouth.... I should arrest you more often.”
"Yes, right there."
He could feel her fluttering around him and his arms trembled a little as he faught to bear his weight. He dropped to his elbows, his chest pressing to hers as he buried his face into the side of her neck, teeth latching onto her skin. He knew he’d leave a mark, one which she knew she’d lambast him for in the morning but right now he didn’t care.
A dirty grind, backed by a handful of shallow thrusts and a hard rut had her undone beneath him. Y/N crying out Paul's name mixed with an obscene whine had him right behind her.
With a shudder, he fell forward, their sweat slick skin sliding together as he took in deep, ragged gasps of air, his nose nuzzling into her hair.
"Baby, wow," he managed. "Are you okay?"
She couldn't manage more than a content hum herself with the alcoholic daze ebbing away and blending with the euphoric high of orgasm. Instead, by way of answer she turned her head and brushed her lips over his.
The feeling in his chest was beyond explanation as he absorbed his emotions and thoughts. "I love you."
He felt Y/N still underneath him, and she pulled back, a smile on her face. “Are we talking hypothetically now or...”
“No.” He shook his head, swallowing the lump in his throat. “I know it might be soon and you don’t have to say it back if you can’t but... this is absolutely none hypothetical. I love you.”
"I love you too."
The warmth exploded across his chest and he grinned. “Yeah?”
Her bottom lip was pulled between her teeth as she nodded, "oh yeah."
“You okay, babe?”
He clears his throat “Yeah I was just thinking. Remember the first time I said that to you?”
She smiled and nodded. “Course I do.” Then she grinned. “You used unreasonable force and you called me.. I believe it was fucking greedy.”
“You resisted arrest.” He smirked, his hands falling to her hips.
“Play your cards right I might do it again tonight.”

Trouble Trio getting caught Checking Out their s/o!
Tumblr media
Feitan Portor
It was early in the morning when you two woke up. After many promises, considerations, and LOTS of begging and convincing, you managed to get Feitan to go to the beach with you.
The night before you had packed everything you guys would need: Sunscreen, towels, food and snacks, shade, chairs, everything. Now you were changing into your bathing suit as was he, facing each others backs respectfully. Once you were finished you grabbed some last minute things and started to pack everything into the car. You both got everything and started driving.
Now the beach was about an hour and a half away so you both agreed to stop by a drive thru and get some quick breakfast. After doing so you continued down the road.
For the most part you avoided traffic, since it was early in the morning, but after nearing the beach it seemed as though the freeway was decently packed. This didn’t bother you since it wasn’t that bad, but Feitan was getting quite irritated.
“Are we, almost there?” You could practically see the venom spat out from his tone, not directed at you but to the ‘nuisances’ blocking the road.
“Yes Fei we’re almost there.”
“These people, are annoying. Drive.”
“Feitan we could crash into somebody if we did that, then we would ESPECIALLY not go to the beach!” Feitan grumbled something and slumped in his seat, as you turned on the radio and changed it to your favorite station. You began to hum the song and bop your head to the beat of the music, this eventually turning into a light dance whilst in the driver’s seat. After a couple of minutes you heard a ‘Click!’ come from Feitan’s side.
“Fei, what did you just do??” He didn’t respond to this, though he showed you his phone. On it was a photo of you dancing and smiling.
“FEITAN PORTOR DELETE THAT NOW”
“Nope 🖤”
“Sone of a.. SHIIITT!!” You stepped on the gas pedal as the honks of people behind you registered in your head. The traffic had been moving this whole time and Feitan didn’t even bother to tell you! All the while you could hear him cracking up in his seat.
By the time you arrived at the beach, unloaded your things from the car, found a spot in the sand and unpacked everything, it was about 11 AM. All that was left to do was undress down to your swimwear, apply sunscreen and head in the water. Undress down to your swimwear... Feitan didn’t like this.
Does she have to do this in front of all of these people?
What if people start checking her out?
What the fuck?
Nevertheless you began to pull up your shirt. You weren’t wearing anything too revealing, just a simple (f/c) one piece that fit well around your body, showing a slight bit of cleavage. Pulling down your shorts as well, you felt a pair of eyes on you. Very familiar eyes..
“FEITAN ARE YOU CHECKING ME OUT?”
“N- no” You could see the blush on his face from the couple feet away you were from him. You picked up your clothes and hurled them at his face as hard as you could, which to your surprise he didn’t dodge.
“Pervy Feitan pervy Feitan pervy Feitan”
“I’M NOT, A PERVERT.”
“Mhm, sure you aren-” You felt him pick you up and begin to speed walk towards the water, I’m sure you could guess what happened next.
Shalnark Ryusei
You and Shalnark had been planning this for a while. A fun couple’s night out with a fancy dinner, movies and cuddling on the couch. You and your partner were finishing up getting dressed as you heard a weird honk from outside.
“Alright princess let’s go!”
“Huh? Wait-” You couldn’t really object since Shal picked you up bridal style and began walking out the door towards a.. limo?
“Shalbaby, you didn’t have to do thiiss.” You chuckled and looked at your blushing boyfriend.
“Of course I did! I’m always off on missions and don’t get to see you too often!! I have to make it up to you somehow!” You heard the driver scoff at your guys’ gushy talk, and in the blink of an eye Shalnark shot a pin in his neck and told him to drive to your first destination, to which he obliged at will.
Once the two of you arrived you had an amazing 3 coursed meal, each dish even better than the last. Chit-chatting the whole time, it felt as though you grew even closer to your boyfriend. Not by being at an amazing restaurant and not by doing amazing things with him, but because you WERE with him. Talking and laughing together, sharing sad and fun memories, every time you were with him you felt that you couldn’t fall for him again, but here you were, head over heels. Shalnark payed for the dinner and you both thanked the waitress. Walking back to the limo you guys sat and talked some more while heading to the best movie theater in town.
Even after the movie, it appeared Shal had some more things in town, and with this you ended up going to an ice cream parlor, arcade, and finally stopping by the troupe’s current hideout to say hi. Heading back home you practically collapsed from all of the fun you two had.
Barley being able to walk back to your guys’ room, you changed into some lazy pajamas and Shal changed into his. As you were pulling down your comfy shirt you felt two muscular arms wrap around your waist and fell onto the bed.
“SHALL I WAS CHANGING!!” You both started giggling like children as you flipped yourself over and gave him a kiss on his cheek. You could tell his eyes were wandering though, and soon you realized he was staring at your chest. You grabbed a pillow from behind you and pushed down on his face with it, hearing a startled Shalnark yelp from beneath.
“That’s what you get for being a perv-” *POMPH* He pulled the pillow off of his face and smacked you with it, resulting in a full blown pillow fight with you two passing out on the couch.
Phinks Magcub
You were feeling like a bit of a tease today so you decided to dress in some rather revealing clothes. A skirt shorter than the average, some thigh highs and a crop top, all to get a reaction out of your boyfriend.
Phinks was sitting in the living room snacking and watching some tv as he thought you were still asleep. It was about 10 in the morning so you decided to waltz into the kitchen and make breakfast.
“Hey bab... babe?” He couldn’t finish his sentence as his eyes looked you up and down. Drool was practically falling out of his mouth but you pretended to not notice, still making breakfast.
“Morning baby! How’d you sleep?” Phinks shook his head back into reality.
“G- good, you?”
“I slept pretty well, thanks for asking.” Swinging your hips while plating the food almost pushed Phinks over the edge as his face now looked as red as a tomato.
“Is it feeling a bit warm to you? I’m going to go turn on the AC heh..” You ran in front of your boyfriend and jumped onto him like a koala. At this rate he might as well be a cartoon character because he was fuming. He didn’t have the strength to speak out any words, and all you did was laugh.
“I know you were staring at me earlier~”
“H- HUhH? What would make you think that? I was just watching tv!”
“Then why are your hands on my ass right now?”
Phinks flat out passed out, right there, onto the floor.

Masterlist Chapter 3
Later that night you realize that after your mystery patron left, you made your way back to the shitty motel you were staying at seemingly in a daze. Almost as if you were on autopilot.
Laying in bed having showered and locked up everything tightly, you stared at your dog curiously. She didn’t seem much different than she usually did.
“What the hell was that about huh? Did you turn into a teddy bear all of a sudden?” you often spoke to her as if she’d respond. You supposed that in some ways she usually did, or at least you felt as though she did. She looked at you without lifting her head, the barest hint of acknowledgment.
“Excuse me ma’am, I’m speaking to you.” You stared at her – she looked away and let out a heavy sigh. Wow. Rude. Maybe he smelled like someone familiar? Either way its lucky she didn’t bite or growl at him, relieved that you didn’t have to deal with that fall out.
You stared at the little mark in your palm with the little sliver of light that cut through the darkness of the sad little room you both had been staying in for the past week and thought about it’s twin on the man at the carnival. His voice in the back of your mind as you pictured his face. The smile that made your heart beat faster, those deep brown eyes that crinkled giving you that smile. The feel of his lips on the back of your hand, you could almost feel it as you drifted off to sleep.
The same sliver of light woke you the next morning, and not in the best of moods. You had a vague sense of nightmares but nothing concrete, a couple of minutes later you couldn’t even remember. The feeling however didn’t go away, and it followed you like a cloud throughout the day. After taking the dog out to handle her business and grabbing yourself some breakfast you sat in the bed and upturned your earnings to see what you were working with.
“Okay, so we have $115 from the carnival along with the little bit we still have for emergencies. Which means we’re at a grand total of $637.53. That’s not too bad huh?” the dog gave a little huff.
“One more day at the carnival wouldn’t hurt – lets see if we can make it an even $700. Don’t look at me like that, it’s got nothing to do with that guy he probably forgot what he said. I doubt we’ll ever see him again.” You weren’t sure who you were trying to convince. The dog was ever silent and you gave her a little frown but put your money away anyway.
You decided that no matter what happened at the carnival, this was your last night in this town. It felt as though you’d stayed there too long already. To harden your resolve, you checked out of the motel early and packed up everything you owned - double and triple checking that you didn’t miss anything - into the back of your jeep. You used the rest of the day to restock everything you needed for your life on the road – snacks, extra gas for the long stretches of road between gas stations, dog food & snacks for your girl, as well as basic toiletries that had been used up or were running dangerously low. Everything went into the back of the jeep where you had your life neatly organized. Feeling better about your provisions, you made your way over to the carnival.
It was a slow night. Not as many customers as you would have hoped for and the cloud over your head felt as though it was getting heavier, full to bursting with rain and hail, thunder and lightning. The feeling that seemed like a vague suggestion of a bad dream, now sat heavy and low in the pit of your stomach like a brick. You tried to shake it off but the slightest movement had you whipping your head around, any normal carnival noise had you jumping and it wasn’t just you. The dog’s ears kept prickling like she too was on the lookout. Even the smells of carnival, which normally were the only thing you liked about it – were making you queasy. Donuts and funnel cakes, cotton candy and roasted nuts, things you usually liked now were cloying and were threatening to make you gag.
You felt him before you actually saw him and when your eyes locked and he gave you that secret smile, it felt as though the wind got knocked out of you.
He sat down opposite you and you stared at each other for a few minutes in silence. You mapped out the lines of his face unabashedly while he did the same. You noticed the scar on his cheek that you’d somehow missed the night before and again that wild urge to reach out and touch him struck you again.
“Good evening Birdie, I cannot put into words the euphoria I feel in seeing you again.”
“Do you always speak like that?” you blurted out, as your eyes widened and the colour rose high in your cheeks.
“Do you find it bothersome?” he asked seemingly unphased, you’re guessing you probably aren’t the first person to ask him.
“No.” You certainly didn’t speak in such flowery prose but then again, you travelled alone with a dog so your conversations were very one-sided.
“I found myself contemplating how a petal as exquisite as yourself found herself providing your services in this barren no-name town. I suspect you’re not a local?”
“Nope, just passing through.” You ignored the compliment.
“As I suspected. As am I petal. I don’t suppose you’d be agreeable to coming to a little arrangement? I’m looking for transport out of this place and as romantic as the thought of purchasing a bus ticket and driving off into the sunset with strangers on all sides is, I’d rather travel with someone as lovely as yourself to look at.” You gawked at him. “I realize that we do not know each other but I assure you petal I am as harmless as a newborn kitten.” Yeah. Right. You weren’t afraid of this man in any way, you couldn’t explain why but there was something in the pit of your stomach that told you he was safe. Were you actually considering this??
“You want me to give you a ride? You don’t even know where I’m going, and how do you know I’m harmless?” You crossed your arms over your chest to hide the frantic beating of your heart, as if he could somehow see it.
“Call it intuition. What do you say? Are you agreeable?” He reached out his hand to shake on your agreement. You stared at his hand momentarily when a thought struck you.
“What do you say girl, should we pick up a stray?” You looked over at your dog. She stood up and walked over to him – he smiled and pet her behind the ear and she licked his hand again. That settled it.
“Agreed.” You both shook on it.
It was only as you both walked over to your jeep that you realized you’d never asked him his name.
At first it was a little strange having someone other than the dog in the Jeep, but he volunteered to drive and you couldn’t help but admit that it was nice. It was nice to be in the passengers seat with the window open, sun shining on your face, wind blowing through your hair and the steady hum of his voice lulling you into a state of relaxation you haven’t felt since god knows when. That was another thing that was strange. Conversation. You spoke to the dog often but she didn’t respond. Not verbally anyway. You both made your way through each town, deciding off the cuff whether or not you wanted to stay or keep going. It was also very nice having him pitching in with gas money. The first time you pulled into a gas station he was out of the car before you could fully comprehend what he was doing, filling up your tank and walking in to pay without so much as a word. As he got in and dropped a bottle of water in your lap he gave you one of those smiles that made your heart skip a beat, and noticing the look of confusion on your face he laughed lightly.
“I figure if you’re courteous enough to allow me to accompany you in your cross-country travel, the very least I can do is contribute with the cost of fuel. Now I have purchased some water for you because you have to stay hydrated, especially in this heat and I’m guessing the little lady riding in the back might also be a little thirsty. What do you say girl, do you need to go about your business?” the dog perked her ears up as he grabbed her leash to lead her outside.
You were left speechless, but glad you didn’t have to have the awkward conversation when you eventually did run out of gas money. That was another thing that seriously weirded you out. He spoke to your dog as if he’d known her forever – no fear – no hesitation and while for other dogs that was usually fine, you knew for a fact that your dog was most decidedly not open to new people. Except him it seemed. You watched as he led her near the trees while she relieved herself and trotted back happily for a drink of water. Any part of you which held a little bit of regret at readily accepting him joining you was gone in that moment.

Steve jumps out of an eleventh-story window and, because he has wings, Sam jumps after him.
The men chasing them have only knives and the sky, at the time, seemed safer.
But, because he doesn’t have wings, Steve falls. Sam is ashamed to admit that all coherent though leaves his brain right around that time, and he nosedives straight down after him.
Steve jumped precious seconds before and there’s so much space between them, but Steve is reaching, not curled up behind his shield, not protecting himself. Never intending to make impact. The free fall rips the air out of Sam’s lungs, fear and speed rendering him breathless.
Steve is falling. And reaching. And all the while his wild eyes and parted lips are saying come on, Sammy, come catch me. Catch me like you do during practice together, like you do when I step off of planes without parachutes and when Nazis push me off of rooftops, by the tips of my fingers, or under my knees and shoulders like a bride. Catch me like you always do.
Not this time.
Steve hits the ground, and pain rips across his face. The shield skids off his arm, across pavement, and he twists into himself, breathes heavily.
Sam wanted so horribly catch him, kept after him even when he knew he couldn’t. He didn’t pull up in time. It’s only Steve, still looking agonized, throwing his strong arms up to catch Sam’s chest that keeps his knees from breaking. The padding still tears when he crashes. The road still scrapes him open, and he feels like a little boy falling off his bike again.
Sam is also ashamed to admit that he gasps, “please, no,” into Steve’s shoulder, and doesn’t realize he’s still moving until he squirms out from under Sam and pulls him to his feet. They’re being chased again by then, though Sam isn’t even sure he grasps that he isn’t being led by a dead man until they leap into Natasha’s car.
“Close one. Nasty fall,” she tosses into the backseat as she steps on the gas until the car squeals. She probably doesn’t see Sam wince, or the hand Steve lays on his thigh without looking up. And yet, she still has the good grace to leave them alone in the kitchen that evening, saying something about getting packed up and ready to find the next safe house.
Steve sips coffee because he’ll be driving. Sam sips coffee because he’s always felt rude dozing off in the passenger seat. “Are you okay?” Steve murmurs, covering Sam’s hand with his own and rubbing his thumb through the curve of Sam’s palm.
“I...” Sam starts, feeling helpless to answer. “I don’t know. No.”
“I’m okay, you know? There’s a bruise. It’ll be gone by morning.”
“I thought you didn’t bruise,” Sam replies, even though that’s not really true. He’s seen Steve bruise; it had happened once after he got punched in the face by a man with a vibranium arm.
Steve cracks a smile. “I’m flattered.”
It’s too harsh, but Sam snaps, “Wasn’t a compliment.” Steve’s smile dies.
“There was nothing you could have done. It was too far; I shouldn’t have reached for you. You never would have made it,” he reassures, even though he doesn’t have to because Sam knows. He’d never let anyone fall if he could help it. “So, there’s no reason to beat yourself up.”
“Can we stop talking about it?” Sam asks. He means it, too. There’s nothing else to say.
Steve is Steve though, and Steve is sweet, so he squeezes Sam’s hand and hooks their ankles together under the table. “I’m not gonna make you,” he says, “but I wish you would.”
“I love you. That’s all. I love you and I don’t want to see you dead.”
“I’m not going to die. I’ve fallen much further than that.”
Sam bites his lip. “Yeah. Don’t remind me.” Now Steve is actually scooting his chair closer, and it’s making Sam roll his eyes. “There are better places to cuddle than at the dinner table.”
That gets him the baby-blue puppy eyes, and Steve says, “Okay. Bed?”
“Couch,” he says, because he doesn’t want to explain to Natasha why he’s crying.
He lets Steve haul him to his feet and lead him over to the couch, where they collapse together. Steve wriggles out of his jacket and throws it over their shoulders, oblivious as ever to the fact that he’s a human space heater. Really, this shouldn’t be comfortable at all; they’re in jeans and still wearing shoes, but Steve is a notoriously excellent snuggler.
Sam still feels like an idiot or an asshole, laying there and sniffling into Steve’s t-shirt like he can’t stop, but the thing is he really can’t stop, and Steve’s never judged him before. That’s a really addictive feeling, not being judged. What’s also addictive is the warm grip Steve has on his arm, and the way his fingers are slowly caressing the crown of Sam’s head.
“I like your hair when it’s longer,” Steve mumbles. “You’re pretty, Sammy.”
Sam only sighs. Steve’s trying. He’s being as loving as ever, really, but Sam doesn’t want to be told he’s pretty right now. He’s honestly not sure he ever wants to be told he’s pretty again, because he feels horrible, and the incongruence is making it worse. His hands feel dirty, and his stomach feels upside-down, and he wants Steve to either be quiet or get upset about the near-death experience. Or, well, it wasn’t really a near-death experience at all. Because Steve is fine. So, then Sam is irrational, and also maybe having a slow-motion panic attack.
It very nearly becomes a real-time panic attack every one of the four times he wakes up on that couch, not realizing he’d nodded off, grabbing Steve’s waist, sure that Steve is falling. Or that Riley is falling, but sometimes he can’t tell the difference between his nightmares. The ripped-open feeling in his gut the whole way down is always the same, anyway.
Steve must not sleep much that night either because he’s awake and ready to dote on Sam every time he spasms back into consciousness. It’s pleasant and it’s comforting, and days probably could have passed by the time Steve whispers, “Let’s get up, honey, we have to drive.”
Sam doesn’t remember where they’re going and doesn’t really want to know. He wishes Steve would get on the road and drive them back home, so he could let his big sister crush him in a hug and watch her shake hands with Natasha. He’d play soccer in the backyard with his nephews and Steve. He’d probably call Rhodey, too, and visit his parents’ grave, and everyone would forgive him for everything.
But by the time he’s snapped out of that daydream he’s sitting in the front seat of Natasha’s car, beside Steve and with no memory of how he got there. Impossibly, he thinks he must have been asleep on his feet.
“Good morning,” Steve whispers with a tiny smile, like he can somehow tell Sam has just come alive.
“Oh, God. Good morning,” Sam says back and takes Steve’s hand off the wheel, folding it in his own. That widens Steve’s smile, and Sam feels himself relax with a shiver, the warm touch spreading heat into his cold hands and his body through them. Steve actually looks alright, Sam thinks, and it’s a relieving thought.
“How about McDonald’s for breakfast?” Natasha asks from behind them.
Sam arches a brow. “Is that safe?” he asks, knowing it can’t be.
“Close enough. It’s a pick-me-up,” Steve justifies with a shrug, and Sam actually laughs, because sometimes Steve is actually unbearably chivalrous.
“I— you don’t have to. It’s going to suck if they bring us in over some hash browns,” Sam protests.
“Hash browns it is,” is the only reply Steve gives him, squeezing Sam’s hand like he did the night before. Lovingly.
The sun is coming up on the horizon, and they’re driving straight into it, the light turning their faces golden and soft. Natasha is laughing behind them, the radio is playing quietly, and it’s funny how alive Steve looks right now with mischief in his blue eyes and that flashing white smile. Suddenly, how Sam could have possibly mistaken him for a dead man mere hours earlier is entirely beyond him.

I was up before Sam which almost never happens, but I was determined to get coffee and muffins to take over to Y/N and ask her if she wanted to come with us to Montana. Walking up to her door, I kept reminding myself to take deep breaths and not act like an idiot. I knocked on the door and I heard a faint “Come in.” Slowly pushing the door open, I see Y/N folding her clothes to pack into her suitcase. She had her hair up in a ponytail, with jeans and a hoodie on and I couldn’t help but smile when she looked up at me.
“Hey Winchester.”
“Hey!” That sounded too eager, tone it down, Dean… I cleared my throat and continued. “Do you always leave your door open for people to just walk in? That’s not very safe.”
“I just forgot to lock it this morning after I got back from the ice machine. I figured it was you or Sam knocking, but I have this bad boy ready just in case.” She reached over the bed to her nightstand and held up a large knife.”
“That’s not going to do much good if someone were to barge in here with a gun.”
Y/N raised her eyebrow at me with a doubting look on her face which made my heart jump a little. “Most of the time, bringing a knife to a gun fight is a bad idea. But most people aren’t me.” She spun the knife in her hand and set it down on the bed next to her.
“Whatever you say, sweetheart.” I teased and held up a small brown bag with blueberry muffins inside. “I brought you some breakfast.” My gesture was interrupted by the bag being ripped from my hands and pinned to wall just behind me with a knife. It took a second to process what just happened. “Did… Did you just throw a knife at me?” Maybe I should be concerned, but more than anything I’m beyond impressed and a little turned on.
Y/N sent a devious smile my way as she walked over and pulled the knife from the wall, catching the bag before it fell to the ground. “You sounded like you were doubtful of my knife skills so I figured I’d prove it to you.” She stuck the knife in the back of her belt and opened the bag, pulling out a muffin. “Oh, blueberry! My favorite!” How this girl can go from terrifying one second to completely adorable in the next is beyond me, but I can’t get enough of it.
I sit on the bed and she joins me, pulling her feet up and sitting cross legged by my side. “So, you got any plans after this?” I ask as she pulls a muffin from the bag and hands it to me.
“No, I don’t think so. Find a case somewhere close by, I guess?”
“Well Sam and I found one in Montana if you want in. We can always use the backup.”
Y/N’s smile fades as she pops the last bite in her mouth.
“I would love to, but I don’t know if I can…”
My heart sinks. “How come?”
“My stupid piece of crap car can barely make it fifty miles without over-heating. The trip here really did a number on it and I don’t know that it would make it all the way to Montana.”
“Well, lucky for you, I know a great mechanic.” I wink at her and dust the crumbs off my lap. “I’m good with cars. I fix my baby up all the time and keep her running like new. Let me take a look at your piece of crap and see what I can do.”
“Wow, a personal compass and mechanic who brings me breakfast first thing in the morning. What am I supposed to do without you, Dean Winchester?” I knew Y/N was joking, but all I wanted was to tell her that she never had to be without me.
“I’ll tell Sam to get a head start and scope the case out. I’ll stay here with you and fix up your car and we can meet him there. Deal?”
“Dean, you don’t need to do that.”
“I want to.”
Y/N looked skeptically at me, so I reached over and grabbed her hand, squeezing it for reassurance.
“Thank you.” She said softly.
All I wanted to do was lean in and kiss her and it took everything in me to stop myself.
“I’m going to go update Sam. Be back in a sec.”
After giving Sam the low down, I met Y/N at her car. It was a simple jeep, nothing too complicated and I figured it would be an easy fix.
“You wanna pop the hood?” I instructed. She got in the car and pulled a lever. I pulled the hood up and began looking. It only took a few minutes to find a large crack in her water pump.
“Figured it out.” I said as I shut the hood. “Your water pump is busted. Let’s take her to that auto parts store a few blocks down and I’ll have her up and running in no time.”
“My knight in grungy plaid!” She joked as she walked to the passenger side door, which I opened for her before hopping in the driver’s side.
Y/N walked across the street to the gas station and bought some snacks and drinks while I quickly changed the pump, then we headed out on the road. Sam had only left a few hours before us and I sent him a quick text letting him know that we were on our way.
We were looking at a fifteen hour drive ahead of us, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited to get to know Y/N more.
“So, where’d you learn to throw knives like that?” I asked.
“Well, that’s kind of a long story.” She muttered as she shuffled through CDs, looking for one to pop in.
“We have time.” I was genuinely interested in knowing everything about her. I would sit in this stupid car for a whole week if it meant I got to be with Y/N.
I knew she could sense my sincerity and tried to repress a smile as she looked at the floor. “Well, you remember me telling you that my family died when I was little?” I nodded. “I kind of bounced around between hunters who raised me and taught me the ropes. I never really stayed with anyone for that long, though. Bobby kept me the most. I’m sure I was a burden on him, but he’s the only one who didn’t make me feel like I was, and I love him for that. But I always wanted to feel like I belonged with someone, you know? Like I just wanted to stick with one person and not have them dump me off with the next hunter who was free to look after me. I quickly learned that the more useful I was on hunts, the longer I’d stay with someone, so I decided that I’d learn how to throw knives. Bobby gave me this little guy,” she reached down and opened the glove compartment, pulling out a decent sized pocketknife, “and I practiced in every free minute I had. Eventually, I upgraded to bigger and better weapons, but this one holds a place in my heart.” She folded the knife back up and put it away. “Anyway, long story short, I got pretty good at throwing pointy things.” She chuckled.
“Did you ever get to stick with someone?”
She pursed her lips. “Not really, no. Once I was an asset on hunts, people would keep me around for longer, but never permanently. When I turned sixteen, Bobby set me up with one of his old cars and I went out on my own.”
I couldn’t fathom how anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want this amazing person around. “I’m sorry.” I shot her a sympathetic side smile.
“You don’t need to be.” I was surprised at her response. “People tell me all the time that I had a crappy childhood, but I didn’t know any different. I learned a long time ago that I can’t let myself feel deprived or angry about the past because that doesn’t help with anything. There’s enough bad that we deal with in our lives and I’m not going to make it worse by throwing a pity party for myself.” She cleared her throat and quickly shook her head, bringing a smile back on her face and changing her tone of voice instantly as she reached into the shopping bag full of treats. “Jerky or ding-dongs?” She asked.
“Jerky. I’ll leave the chocolate for you.” I remembered our conversation from the diner, how she told me she had a big sweet tooth.
“Good answer.” She beamed.
“So, your family,” I started between bites, “what were they like?”
“From what I remember, they were wonderful.” Y/N gave a sweet smile and reminisced as she gazed out the front window. “I was six when they died, so I don’t remember a lot, but I do remember my mom being patient and loving and my dad could make me laugh even on the worst days. I had 4 older brothers who were very protective. I looked up to them a lot. I’ve got some pictures at Bobby’s place. I’ll have to show you someday.”
“I’d love that.”
When Y/N showed me this side of her, it was hard to picture her as a hunter, even though I had seen firsthand how badass she could be. She seemed so vulnerable and kind, and I couldn’t understand how she could be so genuine after what she went through. I hated that she never had a true place of her own, and I wanted to tell her she had found one with me. It had only been a day and a half, but I couldn’t picture the future without this girl by my side. I wanted to tell her that, but how do I say something like that without coming off like an obsessed crazy man?
Y/N asked about my life, and I filled her in on everything. Our mom dying, our dad dying, me going to hell, and even things about myself that I wouldn’t tell Sam. I trusted her. Hours had passed and we had to stop for gas. It was getting late, and she volunteered to drive so I could shut my eyes. She had a blanket in the back seat that she gave to me and I wadded it up to use as a shield between me and the cold window.
Y/N played some music but turned it down low so she wouldn’t wake me. She must have thought I was already asleep and began to softly sing along to Love of My Life by Queen. I kept my eyes closed tight and listened to her, hanging onto every word.
You will remember
When this is blown over
And everything’s all by the way
When I grow older
I will be there at your side to remind you
How I still love you
As she sang those words, my head flooded with pictures of the two of us sitting on the porch of a small secluded house, watching our kids play in the front yard with a big old dog. I had never pictured a future like this for myself, but the minute I met Y/N, I felt a new door open for me. I had always thought that I would die young in a blaze of glory, but now all I wanted was to get out of the hunting life and live a simple one. Maybe not today or anytime soon, but someday. Was it crazy that I felt like this after knowing her for barely two days? Yes. Did I care? No.
My life had very few moments where I felt completely at peace and content, but this was one. One that I would remember every day, and the one that made me realize that I was one hundred percent head-over-heels in love with this girl.
Sam had already spoken with the police and the families of the victims by the time we got there. We quickly figured out who the wolf was and had him taken care of by the end of the day. We made a good team. I convinced Sam and Y/N that we should celebrate at the local bar, and the three of us were sitting at a table. Y/N volunteered to buy the next round and left her chair to go get it.
“So…” Sam started as I watched Y/N joking with the bartender. “You gonna tell her?”
“Tell her what?”
“That you like her, or whatever.”
“We’re not in high school, Sam.”
“Okay, fine. I just mean, I’ve never seen you like this before, and you need to make up your mind. We’re done with this case and she’s taking off in the morning if you don’t do something.”
I sighed and played with the label on my beer bottle. “I know…”
“I think we make a good team, the three of us.” Sam added. “Why don’t you, invite her to come hunt with us for a while?”
I looked at him skeptically. “You’d be okay with that?”
“Dean, she’s one of the best hunter’s I’ve ever seen, she actually helps with research, she’s fun, and you’re much more tolerable to be around when she’s with you.”
“Yeah, okay. I’ll ask her tonight.”
YOUR POV
You, Sam and Dean had been having the time of your lives at that bar. You couldn’t remember the last time you had ever felt like you fit in with anyone like this. Sam was so easy to get along with. You teased him, he teased you, and you both teamed up to tease Dean. He felt like a brother to you. Dean, on the other hand, was so caring and interested in you like no one had ever been before. You had been fighting back strong feelings for him since you had first met him just two days prior; feelings so strong that they scared you. You had heard stories about him from Bobby and other hunters about how he would reel women in, use them, and leave them, so you left your guard up a little. But you had a hard time believing he was that kind of a person. For some reason, you trusted him like you had known him your whole life and it was rare that you trusted anyone at all.
Sam was telling a story about the food Dean used to try and cook for them at motels when they were kids and couldn’t get through a sentence without splitting his side from laughter, which, in turn, made you and Dean belly laugh as well. The ringtone of your phone broke through the cackles and you pulled it from your pocket. You excused yourself and stood up from the table, walking outside where you could hear better.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Y/N, it’s Mitch”
“Wow, hey Mitch. It’s been a long time. Everything okay?” You had worked a few cases with Mitch in the past few years. He was a decent hunter. Young, like you, so you got along with him better than older hunters who looked down on you.
“I’ve got a case in Idaho that I can’t seem to figure out. You free?”
“You’re in luck. I just finished up something in Montana. Text me your address and I’ll be there tomorrow.”
“Thanks, I owe you one.”
You walk back in the bar, disappointed that you have to leave the fun. Dean smiles the second he sees you come back inside. You sat down next to him and he put his arm on the back of your chair.
“I thought you ran away, sweetheart.”
“I figured you could foot the bill.” You teased. “No, I actually got a call from a hunter in Idaho needing some help, so I think I’ve gotta call it a night and find a motel to crash at. I told him I’d be there tomorrow.”
Dean’s face dropped as you pulled out your wallet and set some money on the table. Sam gave Dean a knowing look which you caught. As you pulled on your jacket, Dean grabbed your arm softly.
“Wait, Y/N. Uhm, Sam and I were talking, and we’d love it if you’d let us stick with you for a while. If you’re okay with that, that is…”
You couldn’t fight the smile that crept up on your face. “You guys want to come with me?” Sam and Dean both nodded. “Well come on then. Let’s go get some sleep.”
The boys popped up, paid their part of the bill and Dean put his hand at the small of your back as you walked out, trailing Sam. Once you were outside, he moved his hand to grab yours, lacing his fingers between yours, which took you by surprise. “Is this okay?” He asked. Your heart was fluttering and your stomach doing flips. You nodded and smiled, squeezing his hand in response.

The sun wasn’t even up yet, that was your biggest concern. Not that there could be some kind of emergency but that someone had the audacity to knock on your door before the sun was even up. You swung the door open to see Wilford standing there, looking much more casual than usual and grinning the moment he saw you. “Good morning, sunshine! Ready to go?”
You sighed and let your defenses down. “To go?”
“Yes, to go! To go to the big thing in Chicago!”
“Yeah I remember that, I thought we were leaving at six thirty.”
“It is six thirty.” He said, glancing down at his watch to check.
You stared at him for a moment in sleepy confusion before it finally hit you. “You meant six in the morning??”
“Well of course I meant the morning, can you imagine the traffic that time of day?” He chuckled at the thought and let himself inside. “Besides, the network made it very clear I can’t miss this. Best not to take chances.”
“...You’re lucky you’re cute.” You grumbled, fighting back a yawn as you left to get dressed and grab the bag you packed the night before.
You’d been dating Wil for somewhere close to two years at this point, and you’d been friends for longer than that, and you still never had any idea what to expect from him. There was always a new adventure or shenanigans for him to pull you into, just waiting around the corner. This was one of those times.
When you came back downstairs he took your bag, and your hands in his once it was securely over his shoulder. “Come on, cheer up! I know you took the week off so I made sure this would be worthwhile, planned some stops, made sure we had plenty of time.”
You stopped to lock up your apartment before you two started walking downstairs. “What kind of stops?”
“Sweetheart, you are just gonna have to wait and see.” He told you with a wink.
MONDAY
If Wil hadn’t stopped at a gas station, you probably wouldn’t have been able to keep yourself awake at the start of the drive, but thankfully you took the opportunity to get yourself some caffeine and something for you both to eat. After that it was pretty fun, with music blasting and the windows cracked. Every half hour or so one of you would turn the music down and get into another conversation. You had both been so busy the past few months that you had plenty to talk about. Though, the entire time he made a point to keep a folded up piece of paper out of your reach.
The first detour was through the Las Vegas strip, the only stop being a cozy barbecue place off of an exit. But it was fun to see the grand casinos and attractions nonetheless.
“Okay, this is amazing,” You said, pointing to what was left of your sandwich. “What’s the story behind this place?”
“I’ve actually never been here before, just saw it had four and a half stars.” In the middle of his explanation, he swiped a fry off your plate. “I actually haven’t stayed in Vegas since before all the smart...google...haberdashery.”
You stopped halfway to taking a drink, biting back a smile. “Haberdashery?”
He smiled back, shaking his head at you. “Don’t start.”
“So you really planned this out then, huh?”
“Yeah! I have a whole list of places we’re stopping. Did you expect anything less from me?”
“I probably shouldn’t answer that.” You teased. He gasped in mock offense before both of you burst out laughing.
“Fair enough.”
Once you got back on the road it was an extremely long eight hours, at least in the second half after another gas station stop. Your legs were cramped up and the music was getting a bit tedious and had to be turned down. Wilford assured you it was the longest stretch in the whole trip, but even he was tired by the time you guys got to stop in a small Chinese restaurant on the border of Colorado.  “I should’ve picked a closer hotel.” He mumbled through a yawn, waiting somewhat impatiently on the ‘meal for two’ special. “I really didn’t think it’d be this late.”
“How far is it?” You asked, spinning your straw in your glass.
“‘Nother two hours, I think.”
You nodded, deciding to step in. “You could barely keep your eyes open when we pulled in, you should let me drive.”
“You’re probably right...” He seemed hesitant, but neither one of you wanted this to end in a car crash. “But don’t look at the list.”
“I won’t, I won’t. Jeez”
The next two hours were nice, as it was dark now and there were hardly any cars. It didn’t take more than a few minutes for Wilford to doze off in the passenger seat after he put in the next address and you played an audiobook at a low volume to keep yourself focused. Finally the GPS buzzed; “Your destination is on the left.”
You pulled into the lot of Riverwalk inn and nudged your partner’s shoulder until he finally started to stir. “Hey, c’mon we’re here.”
TUESDAY
You heard an alarm start going off on the other side of the bed and let out a groan, pulling a pillow over your head. “What time is it?”
“It’s eight, get up and get dressed and I’ll find someplace to eat.” And with that Wilford was up and out of bed, no problems.
You on the other hand... “We can’t even sleep in a little bit?”
“Not unless you want to start crossing places off the list, my dear.” He started going through his things to look for something new to wear. “We still have to make it there by Friday...for the thing.”
You grumbled some more, finally dragging yourself out of bed after hearing a couple promises of fresh coffee. “Wilford Warfstache, this ‘thing’ better be the best thing that’ll ever happen to you.”
“I already know it will be!” He said in a sing-song voice as you grabbed your bag and vanished into the bathroom.
“What’s the plan for today anyway?” You called out.
“Nothing much, a couple breaks here and there but it’ll take most of the day to get to-” You heard him cut himself off, “to...the next place. But things’ll get good tomorrow, I promise.”
And when you drove into Oklahoma city that night, you pondered all the possibilities.
WEDNESDAY
It was much easier to get up early, mostly out of excitement. After you two stopped at a random chain restaurant to get something for breakfast, you pushed for answers again. “Come on, you have to tell me now that we’re here.”
“Well, actually I couldn’t decide.”He tore his napkin in two and pull a pen out of what seemed to be thin air. You were about to ask if he even realized he did that, as he usually didn’t, but he held both his now-paper-filled hands out. “So, you pick. Left or right, whatever the paper says is what we’ll do.”
“Okay...left.”
He tossed the other paper over his shoulder and read what yours said. “Ooh good choice.” You tried to lean over the table to see it but he closed his hand quickly, leaning closer to you. “Now, Y/n, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you want to kiss me.”
“I’ll kiss you if you tell me where we’re going.”
He laughed at you and slipped out of the booth without hesitation. “Nope! Not ruining the surprise.”
He was very insistent that it didn’t happen, even convincing you to close your eyes once you were close. He guided you out of the car, and finally let you open your eyes. You looked up at the big green sign.
“OKC Zoo and Botanical Garden.”
“Oh my- are you serious?” You had to stop yourself from jumping up in excitement, and grabbed his hand to pull him inside.
You were still beaming hours after you two left, showing him how all the photos turned out over dinner in Kansas City.
THURSDAY
The audiobook had hit a lull, and you were too sick of pop music to switch it. Wilford was much more quiet than usual, so you kept to yourself for a while after lunch, eventually nodding off for a good half-hour.
“We made it!” Your boyfriend cheered, shutting off the car as you sat up straight. “Oh, sorry, I didn’t even realize.”
“Nah it’s fine. We’re here?”
“Yep! We are officially, finally in Chicago. Ready to stretch your legs?”
You bought some ice cream from a Dessert Dealer before driving down to the architecture center to walk around, even deciding to catch a movie before you checked into the hotel.
“This was the best. week. ever!” You exclaimed, flopping onto the bed.
Wil chuckled and laid down beside you. “It’s not over yet.”
“Well you said no detours planned on the way back, and you’ll be busy with the thing tomorrow, so...safe to say we can call it.” You shrugged, flipping onto your stomach and laying your head on your arms. “What is it anyway? A speech? Big grand opening?”
He didn’t answer you at first, contemplating the answer. “Truth be told...” He started. “The network has no idea I’m here. I just wanted to surprise you with all of this. Because...”
“Because?”
He put up a finger, staring down at his watch until-
FRIDAY
“Because, happy anniversary.” He said with a grin,
You had to pause, doing the math in your head, before sitting up straight. “That is...the sweetest thing anybody’s ever done for me. God, I love you.”
He pulled you into a hug before you started tearing up. “I love you too...In fact I didn’t think it was possible to love someone so much.”
“Me either,” You admitted, pulling back to wipe your face with your sleeve. “Happy anniversary, Wil.”
Little did you know that despite the list being complete, there was still one more surprise in store.
You know, considering the ‘top secret list’ you couldn’t look at was just to keep your attention away from the tiny black box in his suitcase?

Maybe There’s Hope: chpt 1 Stop and Breathe
Starting from the final events of 09x20 The Truth, Mulder and Scully tackle their new reality as fugitives. When they finally settle into things, Scully finds out she is pregnant again. A canon divergent AU where I thought, what if Scully got pregnant whilst on the run instead of at the end of season 11?
4k words; rated t; tagging @today-in-fic; read on ao3
The long desert roads seemed to stretch light-years ahead, no scenery, no landmarks, just flat, arid land in all directions. The baked earth was cool in the grey hue of the early morning. Far out, somewhere along the horizon, the sun started to reach up its first fingers to claw at the dawn sky. Chasing those pale blues and purples, the day would soon bleed bright oranges and yellows and colour the earth below. Daybreak felt like an answer to a prayer; the dawn light lifted the oppressive, starless night sky and had cloaked them. Daybreak filled Mulder with a sense of liberty and overwhelming hope for a second chance as invigorating as the breeze outside. It was a miracle that they had made it this far. Mulder was beginning to think he had been executed after all and was caught in limbo, forever driving towards the end of the cold, dark sky. A lost soul wandering aimlessly as punishment for his crimes.
In his mind, he kept hearing the explosions ring through his hears and the flashes of flame in the rear-view mirror. Always in his peripheral, snapshots of the ruins hurtling his way took him by surprise. He glanced at them but as soon as he chased their sight, the apparitions disappeared.
His father was dead. The smoking son-of-a-bitch should have died a long time ago. Mulder tightened his grip on the staring wheel. Now He haunted his peripheral vision as well, the ghost of his smoke sickly uncurling in the back seats of the stolen car. His fathers, his sister, his mother, Emily, the Gunmen: all dead. How many did he have left to lose?
He swallowed thickly and looked over at Scully in the passenger seat, her head lolled to one side and her lips parted to utter the tiniest of snores. A tiny damp patch on her shoulder marked where she had drooled throughout the night– something she most adamantly didn't do. Caught in the first glowing rays of the sun, Mulder had never seen her so beautiful, frizzy hair and all. He placed a hand upon her knee, a poor substitute for all the embraces he wished to share with her.
Scully stirred from her light sleep, groaning and stretching like old wood as she straightened herself. Her blinks were laboriously heavy, weighed down by the stress of the last twenty-four hours. Mulder hadn't meant to wake her but didn't miss the opportunity to share the day with her. "Hey, Scully, look at the sunrise," he whispered.
She groggily hummed, appreciating the myriad of colours. Voice still thick with sleep, she asked, "Where are we?"
"Not sure," he answered, tapping the dial for the gas to see if the needle was lying.
Scully curled up as much as she could in the seat and turned to gaze out of the window, watching the little rocks and pebbles flew past in a blur along the roadside. "Where are we going?"
He glanced at her, then back towards the horizon racing as quickly away from them as they chased after it. "Don't know. But if we don't know, at least nobody else knows either." It was meant to make her smile, but all she did was frown. With no one and nothing around them, the faux safety of the nowhere between lands scared Scully. As if somehow it was a trap they were being lulled into; a false sense of security. She knew they needed to be wary at all hours, every ticking second of the day and every tock of the clock at night. She reminded herself there was no safe place to hide and no time to catch their breath. But it was all so exhausting.
"How long have you been driving?" She craned her neck to see the bags under his eyes. Mulder had pulled all-nighters before, and it wasn't like he was never subject to bouts of insomnia, but the restless worry was the worst thing. She could see it was eating him up from the inside, not fear for himself but for her, that she had chosen this life with him again. And now he could barely offer her an existence. She wanted to tell him that it didn't matter– she'd make the same decision twice, a thousand times, but that wouldn't allay the worry. Reality had punched him in the face and marked him with two shiners.
"Ten hours or so," he said as if it was still the first half an hour.
Scully sat up in her seat. "You should take a rest. Let me drive."
"No." Mulder shook his head with pursed lips and then chuckled. "You should sleep while you can. We both know me resting is pointless."
She smiled sorrowfully, looking at her hands rested in her lap. She sighed. "None of this feels real does it?"
Squeezing her knee, Mulder spoke honestly, as soft and as mellow as the sunlight on the horizon. "You are real to me right here and now. That's all I need to get through this."
But Scully didn't ask what this was and when it would be over. She only knew she was already counting down the days. But the end was intangible and far out of sight, and counting was hopeless when it felt like starting at infinity. The one thing Scully knew for certain was that an irrevocable change had already occurred and she blinked and she missed it. She had been fighting for them, pleading for them. Just her and Mulder: that was all she wanted. And then this shift they had taken on in the last couple of days– such a short time– and she was not sure she wanted it anymore. She was beginning to get that tangy taste in her mouth like she was mourning the past and who they used to be.
Scully took a deep breath. Willing the sting away from her eyes, she expelled the air caught in her lungs, imagining the ache in her body fused to the carbon dioxide molecules and expelled also. Focusing on the sunrise, she found beauty in its nature, reminding herself of the beauty of them; all the times he had made her giggle, made her cry, made her roll her eyes.
Mulder could see Scully thinking, the lost look in her eye more familiar to him than the back of his own hand. Her silence spoke louder than any response; it whispered to him exactly what was on her mind. He knew it because he felt it too. He gently took one of the hands from her lap and held it.
The touch made Scully gasp softly, breaking her from the melody of her thoughts. It was as if he had somehow heard them. Of course, he had; they might have changed but somethings always stayed the same. Scully realised she needed him close now more than ever if she was to stand a chance of surviving. Squeezing his hand, she let him in. She missed this telepathy of theirs; messages like electricity passed through their neurons and chemically encoded between the synapse of their touch. They operated on the same electromagnetic wavelength. She smiled and squeezed his hand again.
Mulder glanced back to the gas needle, edging steadily lower. "How much money did Walter manage to get for us?"
"I haven't counted, but it won't last long anyway."
Fortunately, Scully had had the sensibility to keep the cash on her person. It was all they had left aside the clothes on their backs. Their coats and the change of clothes that were hastily packed were still in the car that Monica and Doggett had driven away and they all knew it was too dangerous now to risk meeting up.
"The next motel we come across, we'll book in–"
She looked at him cautiously.
"– Just for the night. We won't stay long, just so we can sleep on a proper bed."
"So we can stop and catch our breath," she concluded, though doubtful, running her thumb over every hill and valley of his knuckles.
"So we can catch our breath," he agreed.
The hum of the tires picking up dust and the voice of the engine marked their silence. Their long, drawn-out breaths were comforting, yet the quiet was ominous, allowing thoughts to grow like tumours, hanging uneasily between them. They had each other but what if they weren't strong enough? Mulder would have said something– anything to break the tension, but all his thoughts were made of what-ifs, and voicing them, he feared, would make them real.
Scully curled up again, protecting herself against the miasma of the silence. Concentrating on the tide of Mulder's breathing, she found a calming rhythm, watching his chest rise and fall. Knowing he was there, she managed to find peace enough to steal an hour or so more sleep.
Over the horizon came a small, dark dot, growing in size and detail. Mulder leaned forward, squinting through the dust on the windscreen. As it came approached, he thanked Scully's God for gifting an oasis. The gas station looked beaten and worn down but promised life and provisions. He made the quick decision to stop and top up on gas, water, and something for breakfast. Looking at Scully one last time, he saw her sleeping; the quiver of her eyelashes somehow anxious even during sleep. He killed the engine and got out to check the store.
It was still: quieter than Scully remembered it being. Blinking tiredly, she picked the sleepy dust from her eyes and groaned. She gasped sharply, the sight of the empty seat next to her sending her heart aflutter. She grappled at her belt for the gun she no longer had. Cursing, she ran out of the car. The beat of her feet on the ground rivaled the pound of the war drum on her chest. "Mulder?" she called but was met with no reply. "Mulder!"
Mulder came quickly through the door, a finger pressed to his lips and a brown bag in his hand. "Shh, Scully," he whispered. "It's alright. I was just getting some gas."
It was then that Scully noticed the row of pumps they were parked next to. She looked away and licked the corner of her mouth, embarrassed that she had failed to correctly assess the situation before leaping to conclusions. It was so unlike her. She was frustrated she had let fatigue and worry manipulate her so easily. It had been less than two days.
"I could have got us caught," she breathed, shaking her head in disbelief. "How could I have been so stupid?"
"Hey, none of that now." Mulder rubbed her shoulder reassuringly. He guided her back towards the car, his palm at the small of her back like a steady rudder. "We're in the middle of nowhere, nobody is going to find us out here," he calmed her, even though his heart was still racing; the fright in her shouts had shot ice through his spine.
Scully slumped into her seat, the faux safety of no-man's-land nagging at her still. "Mulder, you know better than anybody they have eyes and ears everywhere."
"Let me do the worrying for once, Scully. This one's on me."
She shook her head– she wouldn't let him bare this on his own; they were in this together. It made a small smile creep across Mulder's lips and in return Scully's brow furrowed in confusion.
"How can either of us win when we are both so stubborn?" he laughed, and Scully chuckled too. "I spoke to the owner and he said that if we head southwest, sorta back along the trail, we will end up in Rosswell by nightfall. They'll have a motel–"
"And we can breathe," she nodded, then smirked. "You just wanted to see the UFO sight, didn't you?"
"Maybe," he sheepishly replied. "I got you some of that fat-free yogurt you like for breakfast. And some bagels. You should eat something; we didn't eat all day yesterday."
Scully hadn't noticed. The gnawing of worry in her stomach had sated any appetite she might have had. She still wasn't hungry now, but the doctor in her knew she had to eat something, however hard it was going to be.
Much of the day was spent watching the sun rise overhead and munching on bagels. Scully scolded Mulder when he dipped one of his into the yogurt she had barely touched and Mulder lectured Scully about eating enough. By the time the sun began to set, they had arrived in Roswell and found a motel to stay the night. Clouds were rolling in, covering the skies from the farthest corners, and the threat of rain could be smelt on the air.
Unlocking the door, they both stepped inside a minimal, but pleasant room. Scully clenched her hands around phantom luggage itching her palms. She had the urge to unpack everything into the dresser like she always did, like on their very first case together. She peered around the door to the ensuite, seeing rows of tiny bottles and an inviting robe hung elegantly, yet groaned.
"Mulder, we are going to have to go back out for toothbrushes."
"Oh, hang on..." He rummaged through the paper bag, producing two brushes and a tube of paste. "I picked some up earlier. Sorry, they might have some bagel crumbs on."
She took them with a grin, standing on her tiptoes to press a grateful kiss to his cheek. "You're a lifesaver."
Mulder watched her disappear into the bathroom, giving her some privacy and himself some time to think. He sat on the floor, watching the rain begin to fall and the wind pick up, whipping the trees outside. Gazing out of the window, he imagined the brewing storm an omen, but one of hope. All the good things that had happened to him had been christened by torrents of rain and swirls of wind and wisps of Scully stealing small pieces of his heart: their first assignment together; their first night spent together. The weather brought the ships to port and Scully to him. Beyond the clouds he pictured his sister in the starlight twinkling brightly. He hoped his mother was up there too, keeping a watch over them both.
Suddenly, he smelt the smoke, saw it plume from the chair in the corner. He gritted his teeth. Of all the people that could appear to him...
She's been up there for a long time, you know. I thought you would have figured it out sooner.
Mulder dug his fingernails into his palms, sure the pain would snap him awake.
She saw the world for what it truly was: there's no justice... there's no cruelty either. There's simply survival. In the end, she chose not to survive. She had a choice, Mulder, what do you get?
Maybe it was all in his head. If he tried hard enough, he could make the nightmare disappear.
What did your crusade reap you? The Truth? he chuckled. Was it the truth you wanted; expected? He leaned forward out of the shadow, his dead eyes gleaming in the light. Truth is not power, in fact, it's quite the opposite: truth makes you powerless. It's been quite the burden on me; perhaps that's why I smoke so many. He slyly smiled around a wreath of white cloud. You should try it.
In the end, we all lose. That's the beauty of survival: it's only ever a temporary thing. The date is set, son. Nothing, not even you, can change that.
Fury burning through him, Mulder lept up like a lit match to a gas lamp. "And what would you know?! What did you ever try to do about it?!"
He lunged for the man, desperate to squeeze the last, dying breaths from his corpse once and for all. But as he was about to lay his hands on his sickly throat, the son-of-a-bitch dissipated as thin as the smoke he breathed, elusive in death as he had been in life. It seemed fitting. Curling his fingers through nothing but cool air, Mulder slumped back in defeat. Biting his fingernail, he thought about the truth about who he was. It occurred to him that he was lost without purpose. Although he didn't feel it yet, he recognised the impending dawn of realisation and feared it. He threw his hand out in frustration.
The truth was he had failed.
He hadn't exposed the conspiracy or brought down its organisations. He hadn't found Samantha. He hadn't been a father to William. And he hadn't been there for Scully.
The trees shook their disapproval, condemning the guilty man.
Mulder rested his head back on the mattress like he was treading dangerous waters, but his arms were limp over his knees, merely reticent about his fate. Looking back across the room, he saw Scully walk in smelling sweetly of lavender soap and looking angelic in the pale, dilapidated light. She sat on the edge of the bed, gently running her fingers through his hair and watching the storm in unison. He moved into her touch, shifting to rest his cheek against her thigh. They sat like for a while in companionable silence, reassuring one another through their touches.
When Scully crawled up the bed to lie down, she expected him to follow. When he didn't she asked, "what are you thinking? Mulder?"
"I'm thinking... I'm a guilty man. I've failed in every respect. I deserve the harshest punishment for my crimes."
Hearing the echo, Scully was thrown back to the concrete cell when he first said those words. She could tell, then, there had been a hollow complacency to his tone. Now, she only heard a conviction in his voice. It terrified her. Scully had only just broken him free of where he was being tortured, she couldn't let it live on inside of him. So, she did what she always did: countered Mulder with any sane argument she could think of.
"You don't believe that."
He was sure that he had failed as he was sure of anything. If he told Scully that it was her he had failed, she would refuse to believe him and refuse to let him believe it too. But it was true. And he dared not mention all the ways he had failed their child. Mulder sighed. "I believe that I sat in a motel room like this with you when we first met, and I tried to convince you of the truth. And in that respect, I succeeded, but... in every other way..." He thought of William swaddled in his arms when he held him for the first time– only time. He swallowed the burgeoning lump in his throat. "I've failed."
"You don't believe that either."
"Mm," he disagreed. His jaw was set. Thoughts pounded in his chest but every time he chose something to say it died a whisper caught in his throat. He finally settled for something unimportant, yet still a truth neither of them could refute. "I've been chasing after monsters with a butterfly net." He took a breath and tried again "You heard the man– the date's set. I can't change that." I can't save us. I can't make the world a better place for our son, he didn't say.
Scully wanted to shout at him that this wasn't who he was, he didn't quit so easily, he always found something worth fighting for, but she knew if she did that she would lose him forever. Taking a steadying breath, she composed herself. Keeping her voice measured, she told him what she wanted to be true. "You wouldn't tell me. Not because you were afraid or broken... but because you didn't want to accept defeat."
"Well... I was afraid of what knowing would do to you. I was afraid that it would crush your spirit." He looked into her eyes and saw a pained, mirrored reflection. In some ways, he was glad Cancer-man had told her because he could never bring himself to trample her hope, not when things were already so dire. It would break his heart.
Mulder's gaze held her fast and was as deep and cutting as the love she felt. He looked young and small and innocent like he was clutching those cloth hearts. Even then he was undeterred, never willing to give up hope.
"Why would I accept defeat? Why would I accept it if you won't?" Scully needed him to keep fighting. If he didn't, she would surely give in. "Mulder, you say that you've failed, but you only fail if you give up. And I know you-- you can't give up... It's what I saw in you when we first met. It's why I followed you. Why I'd do it all over again."
"And look what it's gotten you," he murmured.
"And what has it gotten you? Not your sister. Nothing that you've set out for. But you won't give up, even now." She took his hand, gently squeezing, hoping their neurons would connect and renew their telepathy. "You've always said that you want to believe. But believe in what, Mulder? If this is the truth you've been looking for, then what is there left to believe in?"
He glanced at the chair still coiled in that foul aroma, thought of his sister living on as bright starlight, or else he had become the thing he feared: delusional, proving all the whispered rumours true. He suspected it was the trauma or remnants from his brain disease that caused the visions, but that's not what he wanted to believe.
"I believe that... the dead are not lost to us. That they speak to us as part of something greater than us– greater than any alien force." He thought of Byers, Langley, Frohike, even Krycek. "And if you and I are powerless now, I want to believe that if we listen to what's speaking, it can give us the power to save ourselves."
"Then we believe the same thing."
Taking her cross between his finger and thumb, Mulder examined it twinkling in the streetlight made shadowy by rain. He never considered himself a religious man, could never find any divine meaning to all the heartache he had suffered. Then life had brought him Scully with her science and her faith and her love. Maybe he could believe. His thumb traveled to her lips, marveling in the warmth of her; how alive they were. When she pressed the smallest of kisses to his digit, his world shattered with clarity. He joined her like a moth to a flame, helplessly wrapping himself around her like a life ring. She lay under the crook of his nose and he anchored them together with his knee over her hip.
"Maybe there's hope," he breathed.
Scully brushed her nose along his, nuzzling like she was nodding in agreement. The hand that Mulder had nestled in the hollow of her waist repeated the motion, climbing up the side of her ribs and abseiling down, friction warming the embers of their affection. Trailing his fingers higher, he followed the swoop of her hair behind her ear, tucking the locks into place. The edge of her jaw now held delicately beneath his fingertips, he looked to her eyes, the clear crystal blue pulling that familiar tug on his heartstrings. If it was possible, Scully shifted closer. She tilted her head, lips locking onto his once, chastely making herself known to him again. And then again, he searched her out to reply with his own tender kiss. Settling into one another's arms, their gazes fell upon the smile in each's eyes, finding an easy lull.
Scully witnessed the universe turn around in his beautiful mind. The flick of his eyes now quieter, softening from tiredness and tranquility, belayed newfound contentment. Staving off her own sleep, she saw his heavy eyelids droop and close, his breathing even out, and his form relax. She pulled him closer, buried herself in his comforting smell, watched over him– his protector.
The relentless pellets of rain struck percussion against the thin roof above them. Outside, the wind picked up in moaning gale. Inside, Scully breathed, sinking further into the hold of her partner and into the grips of sleep.

Stuck Together pt. 9
[NOTE: Long chapter up ahead. Includes link for a song that is essential to the plot.]

"I'm sorry baby but this is really important."
Denali frowned as she watched Rosé pack her bag. They were supposed to go on a date the next day but to Denali's dismay, her girlfriend cancelled at the last minute.
Rosé had to meet with some people and will be staying for at least three days to finish some work. The past month had been very hectic for the both of them; they hadn't seen each other a lot due to the conflict in their schedules and for their date to get cancelled was almost heartbreaking for Denali. She had been looking forward to it since the day they marked their calendars for it.
It wasn't that she didn't understand Rosé. It was just, she couldn't understand why the universe decided to spoil their date with work.
"I'll be back before you know it." Rosé's voice broke Denali's train of bitter thoughts. She felt a quick peck on her lips before Rosé walked past her. Unsatisfied by the half-hearted kiss she received, she reached out to pull Rosé by the hand, crashing their lips together. Not a moment later, Denali heard the bag hit the floor and felt Rosé arms wrap around her waist. Denali deepened the kiss, before moving down to Rosé's neck to leave a mark. Rosé moaned at the sensation, barely keeping her thoughts intact as Denali pulled away, glaring at her.
"You better not be meeting anyone else behind my back or else…" the younger threatened.
"Or else what?" Rosé taunted, raising an eyebrow. Denali stared angrily at her for a while before beginning to pout.
"Or else I will cry and no one can ever make me stop," she finally said, now fully sulking at Rosé. The latter's lips formed into a smile before placing not one but two delicate pecks on Denali's lips.
"I would never dare look at anyone else, baby, I promise you that."
Denali sighed before wiping the frown off her face. "Fine. Just...call me when you can okay?" She looked sadly at Rosé who gave a quick nod. After one final embrace, Rosé picked up her bag and went on her way, leaving Denali to feel all alone.
After taking a shower, Denali grabbed one of Rosé's shirts from the closet and threw it on, basking in the familiar scent of the woman she missed. This wasn't the first time Rosé had to work away for a couple of days but it felt like it was. She climbed onto the bed and curled up in a ball, burying her nose into the sleeves of the shirt until she fell deep into slumber.
Denali spent the next day drowning herself with work just so she could take her mind off of Rosé's absence and their cancelled date. It was a successful ruse---until she got home. Immediately, the house felt empty, knowing that Rosé wasn't coming back that night. She thought about giving Rosé a call but she decided against it because she thought that the less interruptions she makes, the quicker Rosé would finish her work and come home. Instead, she dialled the number of the person she knew could give her the most comfort she needed.
"Hi, mom." Denali almost sobbed when she heard her mother reply from the other side of the line.
"Hey, pumpkin! How are you?"
Denali flopped down on the couch, sighing deeply. "I'm...not so okay," she said truthfully.
"Why?" Her mom's worried voice sounded. "Did something happen?"
Denali shook her head as if her mother could see her. "No," she replied. "I just...Maybe it's just me but I feel like Rosé and I are going downhill." She heard her mother sigh but say nothing, a sign that the other was waiting for her to continue. "We've been quite busy with work and we were supposed to go on a date today but she cancelled. We've been planning for it since a couple of weeks back but at the last minute she said she had to meet some clients and not just that, she has to leave for three days!"
Denali was fuming by the time she finished her sentence. She didn't realize this angered her so much until she said all of that. "Whoa, pumpkin, calm down," came the loving voice from the other side of the line. There was a moment of utmost silence before Denali's mother continued.
"How about, you invite her over for the weekend?" she said. "Maybe it's finally time for you to introduce her to us?" She could sense Denali's hesitation.
"Look, sweetie, relationships need work. If you want to make this work then you have to try a bit more. You can drive down here on Friday night after your work, and we can have supper together and then breakfast before your dad and I leave for his highschool reunion. We won't be back until Sunday night so you girls have the house to yourselves for at least a whole day. Y'all can do whatever you want. Just don't forget to clean up and change the bedsheets."
"Mom!" Denali exclaimed, blushing at her mom's final statement. She heard her mother laugh and then, she realized that maybe she was this angry because she was also sexually frustrated. She thought maybe they could do it that night but no, cancelled. "Fine," she finally agreed. "I'll talk to her about it when she returns. If she cancels again, that's it. I'm going to cry."
"Can't break up with her, can you?" her mother teased.
"No." Denali pouted as she delivered her answer, not even wanting to think about breaking up with Rosé.
A soft chuckle came from the other side of the line and Denali could almost swear it sounded like Rosé. But she pushed the thought aside, thinking she was hallucinating things because of how much she wanted to see her.
"Okay, then," her mother said with finality. "Talk to her and then tell me if you girls are going because I need to fill up the fridge."
Denali smiled as she sank back into her couch.
"Thanks, mom," she said. "I love you."
"I love you, too, pumpkin," her mother replied, blowing a kiss into the mic before hanging up.
*
When Rosé arrived the next day, she found Denali whipping up some mac and cheese in the kitchen. She quietly set her bag down on the floor before creeping up behind Denali.
"Boo!" Rosé shouted simultaneously with the stomping of her feet. To her surprise, Denali did not budge. Slowly, the latter turned to her with a little pout. "What's wrong?" Rosé asked worriedly.
"Nothing, I just miss you."
Rosé sighed upon hearing the reply. She immediately pulled Denali into her embrace, gently squeezing the other's arms as she swayed her. "I miss you too, baby," Rosé replied. She leaned down to bury her face in Denali's hair, filling her senses with the sweet scent.
"How about we go away this weekend?" Denali suggested, hoping that the other would say yes. Rosé pulled away, looking at her with interest.
"Where are we going?" Rosé let her arms rest around Denali's waist as the latter put her arms around Rosé's neck.
"I called my mom yesterday and she wanted to meet you," Denali said truthfully. She laid down the plans, gauging Rosé's reaction. To her dismay, Rosé had this unreadable expression on her face and by the time she finished her vacation pitch, she was nibbling on her lower lip in anticipation. "So?" she nervously asked.
Rosé broke into a smile. "I'd like that," she said. Denali heaved a sigh of relief, letting her head fall on Rosé's shoulder. “Are you worried I would say no?” Rosé asked and Denali nodded. “Silly, I can’t say no to you even if I tried.”
“But you canceled on me the other day!” Denali protested, whipping her head up to glare at Rosé. The latter laughed, pulling her close again.
“I know, baby, I’m sorry,” Rosé cooed. “I’ll make it up to you, okay?”
Denali narrowed her eyes at Rosé. “How?” she asked.
“We can skip to dessert,” Rosé suggested with a wink. “Your mac and cheese is burnt anyways.”
Denali’s eyes widened in shock as she remembered that she was cooking. “Shit!” she exclaimed, pulling away from Rosé to get the pan off the stove. She cursed under her breath for getting distracted and wasting the food she was cooking. However, she was secretly rejoicing because she knew she would finally be cursing for a whole different reason later.
*
Denali almost missed a step as she hurried down the steps of the building entrance to meet Rosé who was parked in front. She clocked out early so they could start their drive early as well. Rosé got up surprisingly early that day to shop for some snacks they could eat on their way. It was a 4-hour drive from their place to Denali’s parents’ house but Rosé was treating it like it was some sort of an excursion---not that Denali was complaining. It’s been long since she saw Rosé this excited about something and she loved it.
So when Rosé handed her a dress she had never seen before, asking her to change into it while they stopped for some gas, Denali heeded. She went into the restroom to change into the new dress while Rosé filled up their gas tank. About fifteen minutes later, Denali came out, taking Rosé’s breath away. Denali had let her hair down; the soft curls that came from her bun were blowing gently against the wind as she made her way down to the car. The dress fit her perfectly; the light blue shade embellished with little floral details brought out the feminine side of Denali that Rosé loved so much. She looked like she came straight out of a movie and Rosé could feel herself falling in love all over again.
Denali noticed the look Rosé was giving her so she decided to twirl playfully before asking Rosé what she thought of her look.
“You look perfect,” Rosé said, almost in a whisper, still unable to take her eyes off Denali.
“Well, your taste in clothing is superior so I guess it’s all thanks to you,” Denali replied with a giggle. It was only then that she noticed that Rosé was in a pair of jeans and blouse that she had never seen before either. The color tones of the outfit Rosé was wearing matched hers. Rosé was wearing a pair of high waisted light blue jeans and a white polo that had a low neckline, pretty much the same as her dress.
“You really bought new clothes for the both of us just to make an impression, huh?” Denali teased as they both got back in the car. Rosé only shrugged, pulling out of the gas station. They continued their drive and it wasn’t long until they arrived.
The house was a cozy bungalow set up right in front of the beach. Denali’s parents decided to sell their old house and move out here after her father’s retirement and so far, both Helena and William Zuckerman were enjoying their life far from the bustling city life where Denali grew up.
“Where are they?” Denali asked when she realized all the lights were out. She immediately got out of the car as soon as Rosé finished parking, trying to reach her mom, but the phone call kept dropping. Denali furrowed her eyebrows as she tried to dial one more time. “This is not a joke…”
Her words trailed off when an array of lights lit up from post to post, creating a pathway towards the beach.
“...Is it?” Denali finished her sentence, looking both shocked and amused at the feat. She felt Rosé take her hand and lead her through the pathway. As they walked along the sand, Denali noticed a whole bunch of photos clipped on a wire, gently illuminated by the lights above it. They were photos of her; all of which she didn’t know existed. They were shots taken of her doing even the most mundane things in the place she called home with Rosé. She looked at each one of them, recognizing the quality of the photos that surely was a product of Rosé's favorite film camera.
It was all beginning to make sense to her. What Rosé’s excitement was about. The dress. All of it.
A few more steps took them right where they should be---at the beach, right in front of their closest friends and loved ones.
Denali took a look around with tears brimming in her eyes as she saw her friends, Joey, Kahmora and Mik. Utica was there too, standing beside Rosé’s cousin Andrew, and Gammy. And of course, her parents were there, even Aunt Tami was there, looking proudly at her. She turned to yell at Rosé for making all this up but she choked on her words when she realized what the other was doing.
Rosé pulled a velvet box out of her pocket, taking Denali’s hand in hers.
“Remember when I told you I’ll propose when I find the perfect ring?” Rosé asked with a smile. “Well, I found it, baby, so here goes.”
Denali tried to hold back her tears as Rosé knelt to the ground, opening the velvet box to reveal a beautiful emerald ring.
“Nali, I love you and I’ve never been more sure of anything other than I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Baby, will you marry me?”
It took a moment for Denali to find her voice and give her answer. With a nod, she said the word Rosé was hoping to hear.
“Yes!”
Their friends and family all cheered around them as Rosé put the ring on Denali’s finger. Rosé stood up cupping Denali’s cheek to give her a kiss.
“Thank you,” Rosé whispered as they pulled away, wiping the tears off of Denali’s cheek.
“Wha--Where did you find this ring? And how did you prepare all this?" Denali asked, out of breath from the euphoric feeling that washed over her.
“Well, that’s Gammy’s engagement ring,” Rosé said proudly, looking over her grandmother who was in tears. “She gave it to me when I told her about my plans of marrying you. As for all this…”
***
"You better not be meeting anyone else behind my back or else…" Denali threatened.
"Or else what?" Rosé taunted, earning another angry look from Denali.
"Or else I will cry and no one can ever make me stop," Denali finally replied and Rosé had to stop herself from laughing.
"I would never dare look at anyone else, baby, I promise you that." Rosé said it with conviction. Denali had no clue what was in store for her.
After one more reminder for Rosé to call her when she can, Denali finally let her go and Rosé was on her way.
On her way to meet Denali’s parents.
She stole their contact number from Denali’s phone and asked to meet with them. She didn’t plan for it to be on the same day as her planned date with Denali but there was no way she was cancelling on her girlfriend’s parents because she was about to do an important task: ask them for permission to marry their daughter.
Rosé didn’t really believe in traditions like this but she wanted to do it out of respect for Denali’s parents. She understood that unlike her, Denali had a close relationship with her family and if Rosé wasn’t keeping this a surprise, Denali would probably tell her to ask for her parents blessing before asking her to marry her.
Rosé was prepared for the worst when she knocked on that door but to her surprise she was greeted with the warmest hug by Denali’s mom, Helena.
“Oh dear, oh my,” Helena gushed, looking over at Rosé. “You’re even prettier in person than in the photos!” Rosé laughed, thanking her for her compliment. Helena called her husband over, who gave the same warm welcome to Rosé.
“I’m glad you called and asked to meet us,” William said as they settled in the dining table for some snacks. “Denali seems very happy whenever she calls and tells us about you.”
“By the way, why didn’t you bring her with you?” Helena asked, sitting beside Rosé.
“Oh, I’m here to ask you something that Denali isn’t supposed to know,” Rosé replied. She pursed her lips as the husband and wife exchanged confused glances.
“What is it, dear?” Helena asked, looking gently at Rosé. The younger cleared her throat before replying.
“I want you guys to know that Denali was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Rosé began. “She was like this ray of sunshine that just made everything better. And I don’t ever want that to end. I want to spend the rest of my life with your daughter, so I’m here to ask for your blessing to marry Denali.” She looked at both of them hopefully.
After a minute of silence, William finally spoke up. “What if we say no?” he asked, looking seriously at the woman asking for her daughter’s hand.
Rosé did not back down. She looked at him with the same seriousness. “I will still marry her,” she replied truthfully. “Because honestly, I can’t imagine life without her. Not after living the past year with her. I just can’t.”
The couple exchanged looks before breaking into a proud smile. Helena took Rosé’s hand, patting it gently as she said, “You have our blessing, dear.”
Rosé spent the rest of the night looking through old photo albums and listening to the growing up stories the couple were sharing about Denali. It was past midnight when the couple decided to retire to bed. On the other hand, Rosé was still full of energy from the welcome and blessing she got from Denali’s parents. She took out the velvet box from her bag and opened it. Inside was her grandmother’s engagement ring that was also passed down to her by her grandmother on her wedding day. She came to visit Gammy the other day to tell her about her plans about marrying Denali and to cheer her on, Gammy gave her the ring.
The next day, after breakfast, Rosé came to accompany William to the fish market to get some fresh catch for lunch.
“Were you surprised when you found out Denali was dating a woman?” Rosé asked as they walked back to the house. William smiled and shook his head.
“I’m not sure if Denali remembers but when she was younger, she would always fall into a daze whenever she sees this one girl in her kindergarten class,” he said. “Every night at dinner she would talk about how beautiful that classmate of hers was. When their halloween party came, the girl came dressed as Cinderella. I remember her running up to me and saying, ‘Dada, I wanna marry  Cinderella when I grow up!’ For the life of me, I don’t know why I never told her she can’t marry Cinderella because she’s a girl. I never told her she should marry Prince Charming instead. I guess I just felt happy with how happy Denali beamed the moment she said that.”
William looked over to Rosé and gave her a proud smile. “I’m glad she found her Cinderella.” His eyes were a bit misty from the tears that threatened to fall anytime. “Take good care of her, okay?” he asked, earning a nod from Rosé.
“I promise,” Rosé replied, raising her hand in pledge.
“You better keep your promise, young lady,” William said in an overly serious voice. “Or I’m turning you into a mouse by midnight!” Rosé laughed, realizing where Denali got her harmless threats from.
After lunch, she spent some time with Helena in the garden, watering and weeding the plants. Rosé sighed when she realized how beautiful Denali’s family was.
“Everything alright?” Helena asked, hearing the younger one sigh for the nth time that day.
Rosé jolted up, immediately shaking her head. “Nothing, I just…” she sighed again. “I just wish my family was like this, too.”
Helena nodded, slightly understanding Rosé even without hearing the full story. “Well,” she shrugged. “We’re your family now, too.” Rosé looked at her in surprise. “You’re a wonderful person, dear. Denali is blessed to have found you.”
Rosé was filled with nothing but the purest form of bliss. She had not felt this much warmth from people she barely knew in a long time. If anything, she felt like she was the one who was blessed to have found people like Denali and her family.
That night, they were busy laughing at Rosé’s story about her first encounter with Denali when Helena’s phone rang.
“It’s Nali,” she said with a shocked look. William told her to answer it and put it on speaker and so she did. William and Rosé kept quiet as the conversation began.
"Hi, mom." Denali’s voice was cracking and it broke Rosé’s heart because she knew what Denali was sulking about.
"Hey, pumpkin! How are you?" Helena greeted cheerfully in an attempt to lift the mood. Unfortunately, the reply that came was, "I'm...not so okay.”
"Why?" Helena tried to sound as worried as she could. "Did something happen?"
"No," Denali replied. "I just...Maybe it's just me but I feel like Rosé and I are going downhill." Denali stopped for a moment before continuing. “We've been quite busy with work and we were supposed to go on a date today but she cancelled. We've been planning for it since a couple of weeks back but at the last minute she said she had to meet some clients and not just that, she has to leave for three days!"
Rosé shuddered at the anger in Denali’s voice. The couple flashed her a sorry look, clearly knowing how Denali was like when she was angry.
"Whoa, pumpkin, calm down," Helena tried to soothe her daughter. She flashed a look at Rosé and smiled knowingly before speaking again. "How about, you invite her over for the weekend? Maybe it's finally time for you to introduce her to us?" She looked over at Rosé who seemed mildly intrigued about where the suggestion was going.
"Look, sweetie, relationships need work,” Helena continued after a moment. Denali’s hesitation was apparent and her mother was having none of that. “If you want to make this work then you have to try a bit more.
Rosé blushed at the same time Denali screamed “Mom!” into the phone. The couple tried their best to keep themselves from laughing at the young ones.
“Fine," Denali finally agreed. "I'll talk to her about it when she returns. If she cancels again, that's it. I'm going to cry."
"Can't break up with her, can you?" Helena teased, glancing over at Rosé who was grinning.
"No." Rosé chuckled a bit too loudly upon hearing Denali’s answer. She only realized it when Helena signalled her to shush, quickly covering her mouth with her hands.
"Okay, then," Helena quickly said in an attempt to cover up Rosé’s voice. "Talk to her and then tell me if you girls are going because I need to fill up the fridge."
"Thanks, mom, I love you,” Denali replied before they hung up.
Rosé removed her hands from her mouth and tilted her head in confusion. “So...am I supposed to act like I haven’t met you guys yet when we come over here on Friday?” she asked, looking at Helena.
“That, or…” Helena trailed off, her eyes glimmering. “You can propose to her on Friday.” William stared at her in shock and Rosé in excitement. “I mean, do you really want to put it off for too long?” Helena reasoned. “You can tell us how you want to do it and we’ll help you with preparations.”
“Really? You would?” Rosé exclaimed. With a final affirmation from her future in-laws, the deal was sealed and the planning began.
***
“Told you she’s a keeper,” Joey nodded after Denali reiterated everything Rosé told her earlier.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re a brilliant one,” Denali replied, playfully rolling her eyes at Joey before looking over to where Rosé was being fawned over by her mom and Aunt Tami.
They were gathered on the porch, hanging out with some drinks and stories, and most of all, happy thoughts for the newly engaged couple. As the night grew deeper, their friends left to go back to the hotel where they would be staying. Andrew and Gammy were supposed to drive back but after Denali’s parents insisted they stayed the night, they finally agreed.
“And what about us?” Denali nudged her mom after Gammy and Andrew settled in the only guest room in the house. Her mother only grinned at her in reply.
“I believe your wonderful wife-to-be over there has plans for both of you,” Helena replied, pointing towards Rosé who was washing the dishes. Denali gave her mom a suspicious look before walking over to Rosé.
“Rosie, where are we staying tonight?” Denali asked, resting her chin on Rosé’s shoulder.
“Are you tired?” the latter asked as she finished up the chore. Rosé turned around to get a good look at Denali who was nodding. “Well then, I guess we should get going then.” Rosé called out a good night to Helena and William before taking Denali back to their car. They drove for a good thirty minutes before they reached their destination.
It was a villa that Rosé had rented for the weekend, situated at the edge of the town, looking over the calm midnight sea. Denali sighed in awe of the view as they walked towards the house. She chuckled, thinking about how extra Rosé was and how she could have prepared all of this in just five days.
“What?” Rosé asked, looking over her shoulder to find Denali standing still in her place, just lovingly staring at her.
Denali shook her head with a smile. “Nothing,” she said. “I just can’t believe this is actually real. I feel like I must be dreaming.” Rosé walked back towards her, pulling her in for a soft, and gentle kiss.
A mix of emotions exploded in Denali’s soul. She couldn’t explain exactly how she was feeling but she was feeling magical. She kept her eyes closed even after they pulled away from the kiss, not wanting the feeling to end.
“Baby, look at me.” Rosé gently ran her thumb across Denali’s cheeks and the latter’s eyes fluttered open. “I love you.”
She delivered the words with her whole heart and soul and as she looked into Denali’s eyes she knew, she would never tire of saying those words.
*
Months after the magical proposal, the wedding preparations were almost done; their wedding outfits have been delivered, the venue has been booked, the invitations have been sent out. The only thing missing was the actual ceremony.
With only just a month to go before their final day, Rosé decided to go somewhere she didn’t like going to: Harvey’s grave. She felt like she needed to see him one last time before the wedding, just to know that it was okay for her to finally let him go and move on with her life.
“Hey, Harvs,” Rosé greeted as she put a hand on his tombstone. “I’m sorry I didn’t visit you that often. I just...I couldn’t believe that you were really gone.” Rosé sniffled, wiping a tear away from her face. “I’m here today, though, because I wanted to tell you that I’m finally getting married. She’s an amazing woman and I think you two would have been great friends. Her name is Denali. She’s smart, and caring, and beautiful, and...she loves me so much I can’t even believe it sometimes.”
Rosé’s eyebrows knitted together as she became unable to hold back her tears.
“I miss you, Harvs,” she sobbed. “I’m sorry. I wish I could have done more. I really do. But… I want to let you go now. I want to stop hating myself for what happened. Is that okay?” Her grip tightened around the cold rock as she continued to cry. “Denali, she… she deserves to have me completely,” Rosé continued. “And that won’t happen unless I let you go, so that’s what I’m doing. I’ll let you go now, Harvs. And I hope...I hope you’re proud of me.” She placed a kiss on her hand before running it across Harvey’s name. “I love you, Harvs.”
Rosé gave one last glance at her brother’s grave before walking away. She had only taken a step when she stopped in her tracks, recognizing the woman that was in front of her.
“Hi, sweetie.”
Her mother looked like she had been crying. Rosé realized that she must have been standing there long enough to hear everything she said on Harvey’s grave.
“What are you doing here?” Rosé asked, too tired from crying to act hostile towards her mom.
“Well, uhm,” her mom waved an iPod in the air with a tight smile. “We heard from Gammy that you’re getting married soon and I just wanted to give you this. You weren’t there when we were cleaning up Harvey’s room and uhm, there was a note on this that said this was a song for your wedding.” Nora took a cautious step to hand it over to Rosé. She heaved a sigh of relief when Rosé took it without any qualms, giving a tight smile before leaving.
“How did you know I was here?” Rosé asked, making her mom turn around.
“We went by to your place and Denali said you went to visit here and so we went here,” Nora replied.
The mother and daughter stared at each other for a while. Nora was about to leave again when Rosé called after her with the name she never thought to hear again.
“Mom,” Rosé called out and Nora looked at her hopefully. “Do you wanna, uhm... listen to it together?” She held out one of the earphones to her mom who gladly took it. They sat down in front of Harvey’s grave, staring at his name as the music played and his voice came on.
‘Okay, Ro-ro-ro-your-boat! This isn’t an original song but I’m recording this anyway because this came on the radio while I was on the way to school and I just thought this would make a great wedding song for you. You know, for when you actually grow a heart and fall in love with someone.’
Rosé laughed despite the tears that were running down her cheeks. The soft sound of the piano began playing followed by the voice she missed hearing.
‘I never I never thought I needed saving
I was right where I should be
Good God, I know it's dangerous
But it's you that I need
I'm in love this time
I'm in love this time
What have I done?
What have I done?’
Rosé glanced over her mom who was silently crying beside her. It was only then that she realized how much her mother had been hurting. Maybe even more than she was. As Harvey’s recording continued to play, Rosé’s eyes wandered towards the car that was parked on the driveway. She could see her father’s silhouette from the window and it was then too that she realized he was probably the one who was hurt the most about what happened.
‘What have I done?
Oh no, what have I done?
You be brave for me, now’
Rosé removed the earphone and stood up, walking towards the direction of the car as Harvey’s voice echoed in her mind.
‘Oh no, what have I done?
You be brave for me, now’
Rosé tapped on the window of the driver’s seat, tears streaming down her face as her father stepped out of the car.
“Dad…” she sobbed, running into his outstretched arms. She buried her face in chest like she did when she was a kid. Her father put his hand on her head, trying his best not to cry.
8 years. It took 8 years for them to finally be released of the anger and pain that has been weighing on their shoulders.
8 years and a 5-minute recording was what it took for Rosé to heal.
Her parents gave her a ride back to her and Denali’s apartment. The drive was mostly quiet but it was the best kind of quiet Rosé has ever heard. Because in it, she found her peace. They pulled up in front of the building and Rosé thanked her parents for the ride. She got out of the car but then quickly turned on her heel. She tapped on her mother’s window and waited for her to roll it down.
“Uhm, if you guys want to come to the wedding,” Rosé began. “Gammy has an invitation so you can look up the venue from there.” Her parents stared at her in shock and she just shrugged. “I just uhm, think it would be nice if you were both there.” Her features softened as she looked her parents in the eyes and gently smiled. “Actually,” she corrected herself. “I would love for you guys to be there.”
Her mother smiled gratefully as did her father.
“Then we will be there.”
*
Denali poked her head out of the bedroom when she heard the door click. She saw Rosé’s puffy eyes and immediately ran up to her to offer a hug. “How was it?” she asked as they walked towards the couch. Rosé lied down on Denali’s lap, offering her one of the earphones.
“Mom and dad came,” Rosé said. Denali smiled, hearing that finally, Rosé was calling them mom and dad again. “They gave me this. It’s Harvey. Singing a song for my potential wedding.” She hit the play button and once again, she heard her brother’s little monologue before the song came on. She didn’t cry this time. Instead, she smiled as she held Denali’s hand closer to her chest, running her thumb across the ring on the other’s finger.
‘So there it is! Congratulations on your wedding! I mean if you ever decide to use your heart other than to pump blood in your veins.’
Rosé chuckled when she realized she hadn’t reached this part of the recording yet because of that moment with her dad.
‘Anyways, I love you, Ro. You’re the best sister anyone could ever ask for and whoever you end up with will be the luckiest person alive.’
In the background, Rosé could hear her own voice, calling her brother down for dinner before the recording ended. Denali leaned down to place a kiss on Rosé’s forehead.  “I guess he’s right,” Denali said, running her hands through Rosé’s hair.
“I am the luckiest person alive.”

Happy Resurrection Day
A short fic in celebration of Dean and Cas’s 12th anniversary!
Rated: T Words: 3652
Summary: The world didn't end, and Dean and Cas finally get to choose each other. It only took twelve years and a little road trip back to where it all started.
Read it here on AO3
One random morning in mid-September, a few months after the world was left in their hands once and for all, Dean woke up to the nagging feeling he was forgetting something. There wasn’t really much to forget anymore. There was no looming apocalypse, no new catastrophe on the horizon. The biggest dilemma he’d faced in the last few days was whether he had enough milk to make pancakes, or whether he’d have to run out to the store before breakfast.
Sure, he and Cas took the occasional salt and burn. Easy hunts they could usually dust in a day. Sam had taken an extended road trip to see the country and try to figure out what he wanted to do with himself now that he was truly free to explore what life after Chuck could look like, but Dean already knew. He’d known for a good long time that he loved his life, loved the bunker, and loved hunting. And for whatever reason, Cas had just decided to stay, no strings attached. Whether Dean was itching to get out on the road for a long weekend on the slimmest excuse of a hunt that just as often as not turned into a detour to some tourist trap or other, or whether Dean just wanted to sit at home bingeing an old tv series or having a movie marathon, Cas seemed equally content with the slate of activities Dean conjured up for them.
He hadn’t put it into so many words, and he definitely hadn’t said it to Cas, but Dean also loved that Cas had stayed with him.
So it was strange waking up with an unsettled swirling in the pit of his stomach. He held a hand up to his forehead, checked his eyes and throat in the mirror to make sure he wasn’t coming down with something. He didn’t want to get Cas sick, if he was. He’d already survived Cas’s first cold as a human, just barely. They went through so much soup in a week, Dean was starting to wonder if Cas was just milking it for the room service. He had to admit that Cas letting him walk him through the highlights of Dr. Sexy while he was curled up in a blanket nest by his side wasn’t the worst thing he’d had to endure. But for now, Dean wasn’t sick. He just had a restlessness in his bones and no idea how to cure it.
He pulled on his robe and ambled out to the kitchen. Coffee would help him figure out what was eating at him, surely. Only Cas had beat him to it, which was unusual enough to amp up that uneasy feeling. Dean usually beat Cas to the kitchen most mornings, so walking in to a full pot of coffee and no other sign of Cas had him wondering if something was wrong. He poured himself a cup and set off in search of Cas, and whatever he was up to so early in the morning.
He found Cas sitting at the table in the library scrolling around on the internet. Dean just stood in the doorway and watched him for a moment, studying his posture as if it might give him some clue what sort of mood Cas was in. Human or not, Cas still had the intense focus he’d always had as an angel, and aside from pausing to take a sip of his coffee or navigate to the next page, he barely moved from his position hunched over the keyboard. Rather than startle him, Dean waited until Cas put his mug down before clearing his throat to announce his presence.
“Mornin’ sunshine. You’re up early.”
“Hello, Dean,” Cas said, giving him a guilty glance before going back to his work. “Yes, I had been hoping to surprise you later, but I apparently didn’t wake up early enough for that. I hope you slept okay.”
Dean shrugged as he walked around the table and sat down across from Cas. He took a sip of his coffee before replying.
“Mostly. Woke up feeling restless, and I couldn’t figure out why.”
Cas nodded at him as if he understood exactly what Dean meant. “I did, as well. And then I checked the calendar. I assume you know what today is?”
Dean’s brow furrowed as he performed a few calculations. Days all sort of blended together after a while, but they’d made a trip up to Henderson for supplies on Wednesday, and that was only a couple days before.
“Friday?” Dean eventually replied, hoping he was right.
Cas laughed, but shook his head. “It is Friday, but it’s also September 18th.”
Dean blinked at him for a moment as he mentally rocketed back to a run down old gas station where the windows shattered the first time Cas had ever tried to introduce himself. He’d just clawed his way out of his own grave, and the local newspaper had helpfully supplied him the date, and the knowledge that he’d been in hell all of four months. No wonder he’d woken up feeling weird. He might’ve forgotten the date, but somewhere deep down, some part of him would always know it.
Dean came back to himself to find Cas waiting patiently for him, like he always did. He took another sip of his coffee and set the mug down, recalling what Cas had said before sending him off down disturbing memory lane. Better to focus on the present than linger in that particular bit of the past.
“So you were planning a surprise?”
Cas shrugged. “I thought maybe we should do something to celebrate. People celebrate these sorts of milestones, yes?”
Dean wobbled his head side to side and made a face. “Pretty sure Hallmark dosn’t make a card for this one.”
Cas frowned, reaching up to shut the laptop as if he’d made some terrible faux pas, but Dean quickly dropped his hand atop Cas’s to stop him.
“Doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it anyway,” he said more quietly, smiling at Cas. “It was a pretty noteworthy occasion, you pulling me outta hell. What did you have in mind?”
Cas’s frown deepened. “That’s where I’ve been stuck all morning. It felt inappropriate to suggest going to visit your gravesite, and taking you out to dinner seems… trite, in light of the occasion.”
“You know me, Cas. I’m always up for food,” Dean replied, trying to lighten the mood. “Plus it wasn’t just about me being un-dead, you know. It’s the whole reason we met in the first place. And look how that turned out.”
Cas had finally begun to smile again, and turned his attention back to the computer. “We didn’t actually meet face to face until late the next night when you summoned me. There was a bit of a delay due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Dean thought about that for a minute, nodding as he remembered the events of his first few days back on earth. “Well, if you wanna do it right, we could always take a road trip back to that old barn, see if it’s still standing.”
“Have you been back there since then?” Cas asked, curious now.
Dean shook his head. “Driven by it a few times over the years, but never went back inside. The whole farm’s completely overgrown. I figured someone would’ve gotten freaked out by all the weird symbols and burned the place down by now. It was still standing as of a couple years ago.” That got Dean curious. “Have you been back?”
“It’s been a while,” Cas said quietly. “I used to fly there sometimes, when I still could. It was a quiet place to think.”
Dean nodded slowly. “Then that’s what we should do. We’re taking a road trip. I know at least three great diners between here and there I haven’t taken you to yet. We can make a whole weekend out of it.”
“That sounds wonderful,” Cas replied, finally shutting the computer.
“Good. Breakfast first, then we’ll head out. Have ourselves a little resurrection day road trip.”
Dean grabbed his mug and stood up. He’d need to get dressed and pack a bag. They could have a quick breakfast if they were gonna be stopping at Dana’s Diner for lunch. It was a bit of a detour, but the burgers were worth it. He flashed a grin at Cas.
“I’m gonna pack a bag and grab some cereal before we hit the road. Meet you in the kitchen in 20?”
Cas nodded and shut the laptop. As Dean made his way out to the hall, he heard Cas mutter quietly, “Happy Resurrection Day,” as if he was testing out the sentiment. He bit his lip to keep from laughing out loud.
The drive to Illinois took most of the day. It could’ve been a lot quicker, but in addition to Dana’s, they hit a steakhouse on the outskirts of Chicago for dinner before swinging back south toward their destination. Dean bypassed the Astoria Motel where a mirrored ceiling shattered by Cas’s angelic voice had once nearly killed him. He pointed it out as part of their trip down memory lane, but pulled up at a different motel clear across town with the excuse that it would be a shorter drive back to the barn in the morning. Their room was a lot less shabby, and a lot less pay-by-the-hour feeling than the Astoria, so Dean felt it was a win all around.
As they settled in for the night like they had every night they’d been on the road together, Dean let himself really feel the usual longing the three foot chasm between their beds brought out in him. Most nights he’d just roll over and pretend to fall asleep while mashing that feeling down as hard as he could. Tonight, though, he lay in bed staring across that gap, wishing he could make some excuse to crawl into the other bed. Of all nights, and in this particular place, he really just wanted someone to hug until dawn.
The specific someone being Cas.
In the dark, in the quiet listening to Cas’s breathing even out as he drifted off, for one moment Dean allowed himself to admit that he didn’t just love that Cas had stayed with him. He loved Cas. Full stop. Dean lay there until he couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer, holding on to that feeling and knowing he’d have to crush it back down in the morning.
He dreamt of what could’ve happened in that barn, if he hadn’t stabbed Cas that first time they’d met. With twelve years of history between them now, and Dean’s quiet revelation that he was in love with Cas, his dream-self went through a series of alternate endings to that meeting ranging from love confessions to things that he would definitely not be enumerating to Cas over breakfast the next morning. It made for an excellent night’s slumber.
Morning came without the restlessness the previous day had. Dean opened his eyes to the dawn light seeping between the curtains to shine a golden spotlight on Cas’s face, which was smiling back at him.
“Hello, Dean. I take it you slept better last night?”
Dean yawned, but didn’t quite feel like getting up yet. He wanted to enjoy this surreal moment for just a bit longer. Instead he stretched out under the blankets and propped himself up on his pillow to get a better look at Cas.
“Yeah, you?”
Cas propped himself up on his elbow, no longer in the little beam of light, and blinked at him. “I’m reserving judgment until after we have coffee, but yes. It seems to have been satisfactory.” Cas frowned for a second, and Dean was about to ask what was wrong, when Cas asked, puzzled, “If yesterday was Resurrection Day, what does that make today?”
Dean must’ve still been a bit loopy from his late night thoughts, the restful sleep, and what he could recall of the dream he’d been having. He never would’ve blurted it out around a yawn otherwise, but that’s exactly what he did.
“It’s countdown to Cas day.”
He froze for a second after the words had escaped into the wild, and then slowly turned to take in the fond look on Cas’s face.
“I’m already here, Dean.”
“Yeah, well, you weren’t twelve years ago. I didn’t even know your name yet.”
“You do now,” Cas replied. “How should we celebrate it? Since I sincerely hope you weren’t dead set on a complete reenactment. I don’t have the power to rattle the roof or blow open the doors anymore.”
Dean grinned at that and sat up. “Yeah, I don’t really wanna shoot you, either.”
“I appreciate that,” Cas replied, sitting up on the edge of his own bed opposite Dean. He looked right into Dean’s eyes, as if attempting to convey some deeper meaning to his words, and spoke quietly. “I’m glad you finally believe in me.”
They sat there for a long moment before Dean finally nodded. “‘Course I believe in you, Cas.”
They took turns in the shower and packed up their bags. After a quick breakfast on the way to the farm, they drove down the overgrown dirt road that led to the barn. Dean had to leave the car a good way back down the road, and they hiked through the knee-high scrub to the broken old barn door. Dean picked up a shattered timber and tossed it out of the way as he pushed his way inside.
“Man, this place is a lot less intimidating looking in broad daylight,” he said, as the two of them stood in the doorway and took in the faded symbols Bobby had painted on every surface of the interior. Broken glass still littered the floor, now covered with a heavy layer of dust.
“It looks different now, somehow,” Cas added. “Smaller. Which is strange considering I was so much larger the first time I was here.”
Dean turned to him and smiled. “Yeah, but now you’re seeing it human. It’s gotta be weird.”
Cas shrugged, and walked around the perimeter of the barn, examining the sigils out of old habit. “This has always been a quiet place for me,” he said, touching a warding sigil with his fingertips before continuing on. “Nothing unholy could find me here. I could be alone with my thoughts.”
Dean noticed a few of the sigils Cas stopped by, and didn’t recognize them. A collection of carefully drawn wards drawn much smaller and in a different shade of paint that stood out from all the rest he’d watched Bobby create twelve years ago.
“Did you add those?” he asked.
Cas nodded. “Angel proofing. Or at least, concealing.”
Dean thought back to all the times Cas had been running or hiding from Heaven and the rest of the angels. When he’d been human and had nowhere to go, and instead of coming here he’d run in the opposite direction, because Dean had kicked him out. A bolt of guilt shot through him and nailed his feet to the floor. This was a place Dean hadn’t come back to because it reminded him that he’d been to Hell, reminded him that Heaven had wanted him for their own for reasons that frankly horrified him now. But for Cas, this was the place Dean had first met him, a place that for him would forever be about the moment he was truly introduced to humanity. It had been kind of a shit introduction, if Dean was honest with himself. But twelve years later, after all the shit had played itself out, Cas had finally made his own choice about his life, and he’d come back to where it all began.
“Happy resurrection day,” Dean said as he stared at Cas from across the room.
Cas turned to him, the look of surprise on his face quickly turning to a smile. “It is a bit like a resurrection, isn’t it? We’ve come all the way back around to where it started, and we’re free of it all now.”
Dean just nodded dumbly, letting the enormity of it sink in as Cas walked over to stand in front of him.
“I don’t have wings or the power of Heaven at my back, but I do recall something I said to you that night. Good things do happen, Dean. And they have.”
“And here we are again,” Dean said, clearing his throat. Both of their lives had changed that night, and they’d spent so much of their time fighting against everything in the universe since then. The one constant had always been each other, even when they’d totally fucked it all up and broken the natural order and sacrificed themselves to fix it all again, they’d done it to save each other. At the end of the road, and the beginning of their journey, Dean couldn’t keep his feelings bottled up any longer. “I love you, you know.”
Cas sucked in a shocked breath of air and blinked at him for a moment, before a grin broke across his face, lighting up the gloomy, dusty haze in the barn. “I love you too, Dean. I’m so glad I’m here with you.”
Dean shook his head, finally prying his feet free to shuffle closer to Cas. He reached out a hand to rest it on Cas’s shoulder, right at the base of his neck. “No, I mean, I love you. I think I always have, and I know I always will, but I only really just figured it out. I’m in love with you and you’ve put me back together in ways you can’t even imagine. You might’ve resurrected me and healed me more times than I can count, but you helped make me a whole person, Cas. And I love you.”
Dean felt the prickling of tears behind his eyes and struggled to hold them back. Like he always did, Cas stared into him, right through him, and lifted a hand to Dean’s cheek.
“I’d hoped it was obvious when I chose humanity, when I chose to stay with you, that I felt the same way for you, Dean. I didn’t have any idea how much knowing you would change me, how much you would teach me about humanity and what makes life worth living when I first walked through those doors. One thing I did know, though, was that I already loved you. I had no idea what that even meant yet, but I would learn.”
A slightly manic laugh escaped Dean’s lips at the euphoria of hearing Cas’s words, seeing the heartbreaking honesty in his face, and wondering how long it was polite to wait before kissing him. Cas gave him a relieved smile, as if he’d been holding it all in far too long, and Dean let out a sigh as he pulled Cas to him.
“Love at first stab, huh?” Dean asked, smiling right into Cas’s face.
“Don’t belittle it, Dean. I loved you even before then. The moment I laid a hand on you in Hell. Healing your soul and reuniting it with your body, resting you gently in your grave and waiting for you to emerge again.”
“You do know how fucked up that was, right? You couldn’t have just dug me out?”
Cas’s brow furrowed. “It was Heaven’s orders. I never thought to question them. But yes, it has bothered me many times over the years.”
“Yeah, well, it’s bothered me more than once that I tried to thank you for saving me from Hell by stabbing you in the heart.”
“It worked, though,” Cas replied, one eyebrow raised. “I’m still here with you.”
“Better than cupid’s arrow,” Dean muttered, and then grimaced at his own terrible reference. It amused Cas, though. “Okay, enough awful jokes. Are you gonna kiss me already?”
Cas made a considering face, as if he hadn’t already made up his mind. “Happy resurrection day to both of us, then. I suppose we know exactly how to celebrate it now.”
Dean took that as the invitation it was, and leaned in for a kiss. Their lips met tentatively at first, and then more confidently as they clung to one another in the gloom. The exploding lights were all internal this time, but no less spectacular. Dean shuffled his feet and heard the crunching of broken glass, and reluctantly pulled back from Cas.
“We should probably find someplace less dangerous if we’re gonna keep going…”
Cas nodded his regretful agreement. With one last look around the old barn, they pulled the doors shut.
“We can come back next year, if you want,” Dean said, taking Cas’s hand and leading him back to the car. “Make it an annual thing.”
“That sounds like a plan,” Cas replied. “The annual resurrection road trip.”
“Next year we bring a broom,” Dean added, leading Cas through the weeds. “Maybe a picnic.”
Cas laughed, letting his hand go when they reached the car.
“So what do you wanna do next?” Dean asked as he climbed back behind the wheel. “We still technically got the rest of the day to celebrate.”
“You mentioned several diners you wanted to introduce me to, and it’s nearly time for lunch,” Cas replied.
Dean thought over their options, then leaned across the front seat to plant a kiss on the corner of Cas’s mouth, just because he could. The look of surprised delight on Cas’s face was more than worth it. “How much of a detour are you up for?”
Cas gave him a look of mock pity. “Dean, I’ll go anywhere with you. No detour is too long if I have you to share the journey with.”
Dean gave him a proper kiss, with a promise of more for later. “Then let’s get this show on the road.”

Robyn asked and I didn’t forget what she asked me, she wants to go away for the weekend so like the good husband I am. I am taking her away for the weekend which wasn’t cheap, hotel wise. I wanted her to get some peace and quiet, and this place will give her just that. Placing Robyn’ case in the trunk, I swear I am in love with both of my cars but this one. The Urus will be used the most because of my family, I can’t be making my wife, well my pregnant wife sit in the Aventador. But this will be used the most, it’s only a weekend away so I just put my clothes in the case with Robyn which she then started saying I am creasing her clothes, she was being dramatic for no reason, but I am excited, we get to spend time together alone. Rorrey is still here, he is getting into my business a lot, in a good way though. He just minds his business too, like with Mel. I like her but she was always randomly in my bedroom or asking Robyn to stay in the bedroom with her and it was a little annoying but at the same time, she isn’t a bad person. Rorrey just sleeps here and then we see him downstairs, that is normal but it’s whatever, I like him being here anyways, but he said he will be going soon. He said he will look after my business while I am away for the weekend, its’ kind of him to do that “all packed up eh” looking behind me “yeah, I can’t wait to drive this big girl. This car it amazing, look at her. Robyn chose well, what you finna do anyways on your own here” pressing the button so the trunk can close “I think I am going to have a party here, joking. Just going to relax, watch your numbers rise on your website, you’re doing well you know. Making a name for yourself, just got to ignore Rakim. Catch him on the streets don’t attack him, he is wanting you to do that, you know how many times you have dodged a sentence” I snorted laughing “I know, I got it. I am going to be good” Rorrey is right, I need to be good.
Opening the car door “you wany anything from inside?” I asked Robyn, I just pumped some gas which isn’t cheap, I ain’t used to these prices actually “maybe Icee please? Some snacks, I feel a little snacky” I snorted laughing “snacky huh, you know you can’t eat in this car?” Robyn looked over at me, I know behind those shades she is glaring at me “so you going to let me be hungry is that it? Your daughter has to remain hungry because you don’t want dirty marks on your car” grabbing my card, I cringed closing the car door. I will let Robyn rant on her own, she is being very snappy with me. I think she is hungry; I will put it to that. I locked the door as I walked off, I don’t want nobody kidnapping my wife now. I laughed to myself, shaking my head as I kept laughing because imagine that happening, I mean I would be panicking “thank you” I said as some guy held the door open “you Chris Brown?” looking up and at the guy “uh yeah” I said confused “oh wow, you Rihanna husband. You a cool dude” he got his hand out, shaking his hand “thank you” I laughed “man, I am visiting and I meet you here” nodding my head smiling “thank you brother, thank you” he seems a nice man “thank you for stopping” walking off smiling.
Opening the car door with the biggest grin on my face “you locked the door why?” she is so moody “because I didn’t want anybody to kidnap my wife, that is all baby. But I bought you a bag full of snacks and a large Icee” holding it out to her “mhmmm thank you” she snatched the drink and bag, getting into the car and closing the door “what is wrong? Tell me” she has been extra moody “you said you would rub my feet and you didn’t, you did not nothing but play games with my brother. Then you said you would get me breakfast, then you didn’t” letting out an oh “I am so sorry, it slipped my mind. I am sorry, this weekend is about us. I am very sorry, your brother is a bad influence” I get why she is mad now “yeah, I hope this drive isn’t long. I don’t want to be in the car for too long, please” I chuckled “baby it’s not, it’s about two hours, or even less. Come on, we can have fun and sing together” Robyn looked over at me and she couldn’t help but smile “see, how beautiful do you look smiling. I am sorry, I am. It’s about us” I want us to have a good time, I don’t want Robyn to be moody “well I feel like we haven’t spent time together, it’s a little annoying you know, but I will let you off” thank god she will.
I chose Santa Barbara because it’s not that far but also we can spend time together in peace without anyone around, I think we will be staying in the hotel for the weekend. I booked The Ritz-Carlton that has ocean views, the room itself is a lot of money, I hope she likes it. We had to walk up the steps to the room, it’s so private too and we are overlooking the beach, it’s very peaceful here. Robyn is looking at the hotel room with every details, she is making sure it’s what she likes “so?” placing the case down “I am happy” I grinned “I have to admit, it’s breath-taking Chris. I love how you always think of every detail and when you choose you think of everything, we can walk down there at night. And oh my god from here we can see the sunset. Also the open fire on the balcony, oh my god. I love it” wrapping my arms around her “you love it then” pressing a kiss to the back of her head “I am in love” I cooed out “with me or?” I dragged out “no, not you. Why would you think that?” now she is a damn lie “did I do good though, don’t worry. I will massage your feet and whatever the hell you want me to do, you all pouty and shit for no damn reason” she is spoilt, that is all I know “you better, I am getting all nervous about giving birth. I need to use the bathroom; I will be back” nodding my head letting her go.
Pulling my hood over my head as I blew out the smoke from my lips, I am sat outside having a blunt. Robyn is still in the bathroom, that pussy bitch Rakim is really just pissing me off, like he out there doing the most for what. Like using that I cried, it makes no sense. Placing the blunt between my lips, I look rough as shit on camera. I ain’t think I look that bad, taking a selfie. Adding a caption ‘Hiding from the pregnant wife’ pressing send, just as I was pressing send Robyn come out. Looking up from my phone “what’s up?” pulling my blunt back “sit there, not too close now. I am smoking” she is so moody “I am constipated again, and I got haemorrhoids, I am in pain. So much pain” biting on my bottom lip, I am unsure of what that is “what is that?” I am confused “I am struggling to use the toilet Chris, because I am straining this has happened. I think I have been eating badly during your birthday and when my family has been hurts, so I am now struggling. I can’t sit properly, my butt is sore” letting out an oh “that means no sex huh” Robyn scoffed and got up in a huff “I didn’t mean it in that way, come on Robyn” too late she is not happy once again.
Once I put my blunt out I thought I would see to the pregnant wife, I didn’t mean it in a bad way. I just instantly thought of sex, I shouldn’t be so selfish when her body is going through the change and mine isn’t “Robyn, come on. Don’t be like this with me, what I said was a joke, I promise you I didn’t mean it in a bad way. I just said it out loud, I promise you Robyn I didn’t mean it I am so sorry if I offended you. It is not about sex every time, I just find you sext no matter what. Like even if you having issues I still love you” Robyn’ emotions is everywhere, now she is crying “hey, stop. Why are you crying now?” crouching down to the bed “because I am in pain, I don’t think sitting in the car helped. And then I know you want sex but now I feel useless, don’t look at me” she hit my arm away “I will go and get you something to help yeah? You just lay here, I will get something to help with it, don’t worry about it. I won’t look at you either” getting up from my position, my wife is going through it so let me be as supportive as I can be in this moment of time, it ain’t even about sex. I just really want us to have a good time.
Waiting at the counter to get some help, I ain’t know what to be buying at all so I need the help. Too much shit to choose form in CVS “next” the lady smiled at me, pulling my hood over my head and I got to the counter “hey uhm, my wife is pregnant and she has haemorrhoids and is in real pain, like she is crying a lot, she can’t go toilet so I need something to help her with that, anything really” the lady smiled nodding her head, I hope she doesn’t know who I am “so she has the burning sensation?” I shrugged, I have no idea “erm, I guess. She is crying” the lady smiled “ok, just give me a moment” she walked off, looking around me sighing out. I do not want people knowing who I am and start writing posts about this shit, Robyn will not be happy about it “so we have this cream, this will soothe and shrink the haemorrhoids. It needs to be reapplied every time she uses the bathroom and I suggest you use the wipes too, for around the area. Tell her she needs to have brown breads, things that it will make it easier for her to pass, but I recommend these for her, this will help. Lots of rest for the mother” nodding my head, I will take anything right now “this will hopefully work, it needs too because she ain’t doing well” I chuckled.
Pushing my hood back as I got back into hotel room “twin, I am back” making my way to the bedroom, I love this hotel room. It’s like an apartment too with a beautiful view “I am sorry Chris” she apologised as soon I got to the room “it’s ok, don’t be. I can only imagine how much pain you are in, it’s not nice for me to make jokes and stuff but I got some stuff for you to use, it will soothe you butt” Robyn breathed out smiling “really?” grabbing the cream out of the bag “here baby, so you want me to do it for you?” throwing the cream on the bed “don’t be stupid, I don’t want you to do that” I shrugged “let me, I mean I do eat your ass out so what? Let me put it on and then you sleep good, also use these wipes for when you go to the toilet” getting the wipes out “I don’t deserve you, I have been in so much pain. Like I thought I would be ok but sitting in the care for so long really put me in a bad way, then when I went toilet. I cried, I cried so much. So it’s been making me moody, but I think once this kicks in I will be ok” I feel bad “sorry for like making the joke about sex, it’s not always about that” I can be so dumb sometimes.
Robyn didn’t want me to put cream on her butt, so instead I am just snuggling her in bed “you’re a good husband Chris, like honestly. I have really won in life, no matter what I know I have won because you are so good to me. I appreciate you so much” I chuckled “so when you sucking my dick then?” Robyn hit my leg from behind “you are so annoying but really, I have won. Thank you, you deal with my moods and you are taking it well, I love you Poppa. Our daughter is so lucky to have you as a father, you are going to spoil her in love, and I can’t wait to see it. You are so caring towards me, and always there to run out of the door to help” she is really praising “my head is getting bigger and bigger, thank you twin. I don’t ever like to see you in pain, and I would do anything to take it away, just rest Robyn. You need it, then tomorrow we can have a fun day” pressing a kiss to the back of Robyn’ shoulder “I will hopefully feel up for it, sorry about this mess” resting my head against her shoulder “stop it, I don’t care she is being stupid now.

Hello!! If you're not too busy and are so inclined, could you do 24, 27, 37 for the fall prompts? For Newt and Hermann o b v i o u s l y. Thank u so so much!! Keep up the great work xoxo
24. Warm Sweaters + 37. Cold
from autumn fic prompts here
im cheating a LITTLE and not filling the “27. corn maze” part because I wrote it last year and im def not inspired enough to do another HAHA. and also...because I want to work towards finishing my @theloccent bingo card belatedly with Spooning and Huddling for Warmth. SORRY I TOOK SO LONG, ive had a weird summer and i just moved/started grad school last week, it hasn't been very conducive for writing. set ambiguously before they're transferred to the HK shatterdome
----------
“I must say, Newton,” Hermann says, “I believe I sorely underestimated your abilities.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Newt says, gloomily.
“You went above and beyond what I expected.”
“I get it,” Newt says.
“It takes a true sort of talent to screw things up as much as you have.”
“I get it,” Newt says.
Hermann is not smirking--he’s too angry right now for that--but he does have a somewhat unpleasant curl to his mouth that’s making Newt boil hot with embarrassment all the same. Sort of a sneer, maybe. “I get it,” Newt says for the third time. “I’m a fuck-up, I’m a walking disaster, I--” He kicks the front of the rental car hard with the end of his boot, relishing in the dull thud that echoes from it, and less in the dull pain. “--can’t even figure out how to patch a fucking tire.”
“Or drive,” Hermann offers, helpfully. “You can’t drive, either.”
“Neither can you, Mr. Speed Demon,” Newt shoots back, but he knows it falls flat. After all--when their connecting flight got cancelled, Hermann wasn't the one who insisted they leave the relative safety of the airport to peel out into a snowstorm in search of a hotel. Hermann wasn’t the one who insisted on driving the rental. Hermann isn’t the one who got them lost down some shitty little road in the middle of nowhere, with snow piling up all around them, and he definitely isn’t the one who got distracted behind the wheel trying to adjust the radio and didn't see a patch of ice in time and sent the car--well. The point is, they’re down two tires, probably an engine, most definitely their only mode of transportation, and sure as hell aren’t near any hotel.
Around them is snow as far as the eye can see. When they get home (and that’s if they ever make it back to the airport), Newt is requesting a transfer to the LA Shatterdome ASAP. “Well, Newton?” Hermann says. He’s bundled up in his stupid parka and more scarves than Newt even owns. Newt can barely see his face. “What’s your next brilliant plan? Build an igloo?”
Not a bad idea, at this rate; the snow is no joke. “I’m thinking,” Newt grumbles. His breath puffs out white in front of him. “Tow truck,” he says. “We need a tow truck.”
“Astute,” Hermann says.
Newt ignores him and pulls his cell phone from his pocket. No bars. Right, of course, middle of fucking nowhere. “Do you have any reception?” Newt sighs.
“I didn’t bring my mobile,” Hermann says.
Newt’s eyes snap up to fix on him incredulously. “You didn’t bring--?! What the hell, man?”
“I had no need for it on the trip,” Hermann says. “We’re meant to be at a conference. I didn't think we’d get lost.” He doesn’t even have the audacity to look ashamed. Newt debates hurling his cell phone into the snow bank in frustration, but decides against it, because it did kind of cost a lot.
“Unbelievable,” he says instead. “Fucking unbelievable. Fine. Let’s go find--”
“You’re not saying we ought to walk somewhere?” Hermann interrupts.
“What other options do we have?” Newt says. “Freeze to death? There’s gotta be at least a gas station or something nearby--I could find someone to tow the car, while you--” He looks Hermann up and down, from his oversized Oxfords to his twenty scarves to his pathetic red cheeks. Hermann’s leg gets stiff as hell in the cold; there’s no way he’d be able to make any kind of distance right now, and who knows how long they’d be walking. There’s also no way Newt’s leaving him behind. “Come on,” he finally sighs, and touches Hermann’s elbow tentatively. “Let’s just get back in the car. It’s warmer in there.”
Maybe he’ll go off by himself once the snow stops. Or maybe, if they’re lucky, someone will stop by and offer them a ride before that. “Only barely,” Hermann says with a scowl, but he obliges.
Newt doesn’t get back in the car right away, though. Instead, he pops the trunk, pulls out their duffel bags, and begins feeling around the backseat. They’ve only had the rental for a few hours, and Newt isn’t exactly the most skilled around cars, but he thinks... “What are you doing back there?” Hermann says.
“One sec,” Newt says, and when he tugs a little lever off to the side, the seats fold down. Another tug, and they fold back into the trunk, leaving the back half of the car entirely flat. “Oh, awesome!”
"Newton?”
Newt ignores Hermann and begins digging around in their duffel bags. He has nothing but a few spare sweatshirts and boxers in his own; Hermann’s proves far more promising. “Score,” Newt whistles, and pulls out two--three--four ugly sweaters. “Holy shit, dude, we were only supposed to be there for a night. Why’d you pack so much?”
“I like to be prepared,” Hermann says. “Which you clearly know nothing about. Hang on--” He cranes his neck around his seat headrest to frown at Newt. “Why are you--?”
“You’re a regular Boy Scout,” Newt interrupts. He climbs into the back of the car, kicks his boots a few times against the back fender to knock off all the snow, and shuts the trunk behind him. “Come on,” he says, unlacing his boots, “get back here already. I’m cold.”
Hermann stares at him.
Newt shucks off his leather jacket and pulls one of Hermann’s sweater over his head instead. It’s insane how much of a difference it makes--maybe Hermann has been on something all these years when he tells Newt he needs proper winter wear or whatever the fuck. He pulls on a second one for good measure, pleasantly surprised to find he can still move his arms, and then pulls on a second pair of his socks over his first. “C’mon, Hermann,” he says. “Time to share some body heat, dude.”
Hermann grumbles, and he shakes his head, and he tucks the hood of his parka down over his face (like being unable to see Newt means Newt will just magically forget he’s there), and then--finally--he turns back to face Newt again. “This is ridiculous,” he declares. “We must have other options.”
Newt lays down and stretches out on his side, blinking up at Hermann coyly. “You’re making it weird for no reason,” he says. “It doesn’t have to be weird, you know.” It can be perfectly natural--two dudes, who sometimes fight, and sometimes do things a little more amorous than fight, sharing body heat. That's all. “It’s just biology. Cats do it, penguins do it--”
“No,” Hermann says.
He comes to the backseat anyway. Newt likes to think it’s because he’s too irresistible.
“I call being big spoon,” Newt says happily, and he tucks himself around Hermann’s bony--and, at the moment, puffy--back before Hermann can protest. One leg, he nudges between Hermann’s, making sure not to put any weight where he shouldn’t; he settles the arm wrapped around Hermann at his waist, splaying his hand somewhere around Hermann’s upper abdomen. “There. Isn’t that nice?”
“Hmph,” Hermann says.
Outside, the storm rages on around them, snow piling up on the windows and frosting them over where it hasn’t landed yet. The last dregs of the heat in the car die out. Newt tucks himself a little closer to Hermann, inhaling his shampoo, the slight damp scent his fuzzy parka hood always has. Hasn’t the guy ever heard of dry-cleaning? “Feeling cozy?” Newt mumbles.
“You’re shivering,” Hermann tells him.
“Am I?” Newt says.
He is. Huh. Hermann turns over with a grunt, then unzips his parka and tucks Newt into it in one fluid motion. Newt winds his arms around Hermann instinctively. “There we are,” Hermann murmurs. “Let’s get you warm.”
The zipper goes back up with some difficulty, pressing Newt so tight against Hermann’s chest he can barely move. Hermann’s chin bumps his forehead. Newt looks up to find his wide mouth parted slightly. “I think I want to kiss you,” Newt says, surprising himself.
“Hm?” Hermann says.
“I want to kiss you,” Newt repeats a little louder, and that gets a reaction--Hermann’s eyebrows leap to his sweaty bangs, and his whole body stiffens. “Listen--listen. Uh. The best way to share body heat--you know--it’s stuff like that. Kissing, and--”
“I am not having sex with you in the back of a bloody rental car,” Hermann half-shouts.
Newt wriggles around a little until he can steal an uncoordinated kiss from Hermann, landing it somewhere to the left of his mouth. He has better aim with his next one. “I won’t tell anyone if you don't,” he promises.
“We are not,” Hermann says, but the next kiss, he instigates himself.
They’re rescued half an hour later when a local knocks on the window and asks if they need a lift; the bed and breakfast Newt was so sure he was leading them to, as it turns out, is only a five minute walk away, hidden from view by some trees and the snow. “At least we had some fun bonding time,” Newt tells Hermann sheepishly in the lobby.
Hermann scowls, but to Newt’s delight, requests a single queen for them both.

“Cookies”: NaNoWriMo 30 Days of Prompts
Today’s Prompt
Read this story on AO3
Summary: I’ve started a sequel to Of All The Beds In All The Hotels In All The World!  A Christmas Holiday special.  I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to have read my Too Many Beds fic first, but it will give you a better understanding of where the characters stand and who my original characters are.
Rated: G, for now.  I will warn if the rating changes.
This post will include the first 3 chapters because they’re short and I don’t think each one needs it’s own post (also I have had a long day and I’m zonked).
The call came from Gladys two weeks before Christmas. Crowley answered the phone, startled to see the number. She had given it to him before they left the little Bed and Breakfast- “in case you ever need to talk, dear”- and he had dutifully put it in his mobile while she watched. He thought he might call again in the spring to book a getaway. What he wasn't expecting was for her to call him.
“Gladys is everything alright?” He could hear the edge in his own voice, if anything was wrong he would be there in an instant to make it right. He wasn't exactly sure when Gladys and Edie had become his to protect, but apparently they were.
“Oh, Crowley, good!” She didn't sound like someone in deep distress. He felt his hackles settle a little. “How are my boys?”
“B-boys... Oh, we're fine.”
“Glad to hear it, glad to hear it,” there was a pause, “Look, I've got myself in to a bit of pickle over here and I wondered if you boys might be able to help me. Unless you've got your own holiday plans.”
“Not a big Christmas fan, me. Aziraphale's got the tree up and he keeps secreting away so I know there are gifts happening.”
“Tell me you got him something, too.”
Crowley was silent.
“Crowley.” Her voice was stern. He had never had a real parent. Not one that spoke with him like that, anyway. And yet, her tone managed to reach inside him and pull out the truth. It wasn't the first time she'd done that and, though he didn't know how it worked, he doubted it would be the last.
“I have, I'm just a bit nervous about it, is all.”
“Oh, I'm sure he'll love whatever you give him. It's from you, after all.”
“Yeah, let's hope.”
There was another pause. This was why Crowley preferred texting.
“So, I know I said we're fine and we are,” Gladys took the conversation back to it's origin, “but Edie's son has taken ill and she's busy tending to him...”
“I'm sorry to hear that.”
“Yes, but you see, we signed up for the bake sale here in town over a month ago and I'm afraid I don't think I can do it all myself.”
“Your grandson?”
“He's never been interested in baking, Crowley.”
“The breakfast ladies?”
“They've all signed up, too. They have their own baked goods to make,” Gladys sighed and it sounded to Crowley to be a little put on, “I can tell them that I'll make what I can make, I suppose. Any amount that goes to the charity will help.”
There was a silence and Crowley swore he could hear her smirking. He let it drag on for another few seconds.
“What charity?” He put his face in his hand. He was being suckered by a little old lady in a bed and breakfast out in the country. He could feel it happening just as surely as anything. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.
“The orphanage a couple towns over. Their heater has been limping along for a couple years now, but I don't think it'll keep through this one. Those poor dears. But, we're going to raise the money to have the furnace replaced.”
“With a bake sale.”
“What better way is there?” How could someone's eyes twinkle through a mobile phone? That was impossible. He was losing it. He nearly suggested an online campaign. There were plenty of people who would open their wallets for cold children this time of year. But, he doubted Gladys even owned a computer.
“I can be there by tomorrow night.”
“Oh, do bring Aziraphale, too.”
“I think he has plans here in the city, Gladys.”
“I think he probably has plans to be wherever you are, Crowley. Ask him. Maybe he would like to get away with you to the country side.”
“Maybe.”
“I'll have a room made up for you, dear. For both of you. Best room we have. Our honeymoon suit.”
Crowley choked and coughed awkwardly.
“All that means is it's a bit bigger, dear, don't get your knickers in a twist.”
“Sure.” His voice did not squeak, it really didn't.
“And it's got a nice, big bath tub,” Her voice was doing that thing where he could hear the twinkle in her eye again, so weird, “big enough to share.”
“Alright then,” his voice had now definitely risen in pitch, “So, I'll talk to Aziraphale and you'll see one or both of us tomorrow night.”
“Oh, thank you, dear,” she sounded relieved at least, even for her meddling, “I really do appreciate the help. Time was, I might've tried to do it all on my own... But, wisdom tells you when you need a little help.”
“Sure, Gladys.”
“Bye-bye! Can't wait to see my boys.”
“See you soon.” Crowley swiped the phone to hang up and sat and stared at it. Time was, he might've tried to get out of this. Surely, there was an excuse somewhere. But, well, Gladys had wormed her way into his heart like a spindly vine, hadn't see? She was largely responsible for his current happiness. He owed her a lot. Maybe everything. What were a few days baking cookies, anyway? They could be back here by Christmas and his plans wouldn't have to change.
-
He dropped the subject over breakfast the next morning, suddenly.
“Gladys called me last night.”
“Gladys... oh, from the Inn?”
“How many Gladys' do you know?”
“I'm not sure, I've never done an inventory. I would have to consult my rolodex.”
“Roll- Of course, of course you have one. You're you.”
“No need to get snippy,” Aziraphale took a sip of his coffee that was more like cocoa than anything else and Crowley could see him hiding a smile, but he let it go, “I mean, how much more prying can the women do? I suppose she could ask if we're married yet.”
Crowley choked spectacularly on the black coffee he had been drinking, only narrowly keeping from spraying the table and the angel across from him.
“Alright there?”
“Fine,” Crowley wheezed and set his coffee down, thinking perhaps it was best to not try that again during this conversation, “No, she wasn't mettling. Well, no, I'm sure she was because that's who she is.” Now he wondered. But, what could she be up to? She couldn't know.
“What was the reason for her call then?”
“She needs our help- well, my help.”
“Which is it?”
“She asked me, but she told me to invite you.”
“Hmm.”
“Hmm?”
“Hmm!” Aziraphale winked at him. Crowley wondered if perhaps they had all got together to test him.
“You don't have to come. I can drive over this afternoon and help her with her cookies and then drive back when we're finished. Our plans don't have to change. You can stay here.”
“Do you want me to stay here?”
“What?”
“Do you want some time away? Maybe we've been spending too much time together,” Aziraphale was staring at him with an alarming amount of earnestness, “It's okay if you want to go away for a bit. I'll miss you, of course, but I won't take it personally.” He reached across the table and squeezed Crowley's hand.
“Don't be absurd.”
“I wasn't!”
“Angel, I-” and he cut himself off suddenly, looking down at the table and taking a deep breath before looking back up, “I want you to come. If you want to come, that is.”
“It's settled then,” Aziraphale took a tiny bite of the scone on his plate, “I can't wait to eat her scones, so much better- real butter, I think that's the key.”
“We'll be baking cookies, though, I'm not sure there'll be time for scones.”
“There will be scones,” he patted his lips free of crumbs.
“How... How can you know that?”
“Because she knows I'm coming round.”
Crowley narrowed his eyes. This smelled like a conspiracy.
“She likes me Crowley, you know that.”
Crowley kept staring.
“Dear, she likes me because I make you happy. You're the favorite. Don't get all... bothered.”
Crowley nabbed the last bit of scone off his plate and popped it in his mouth just to watch his angel fluster and fume.
“Rude... Demon.”
“As charged!” Crowley smirked, rising and offering his elbow, “I'm packed. I'll take you to yours so you can pack, too.
“Thank you,” Aziraphale let him lead the way out of the café.
“You're welcome. I know I'm in for a sit and wait.”
“Rude, again!”
Crowley opened and shut the passenger door of the Bentley, chuckling. Maybe they were conspiring. Or maybe it was Pick On Crowley day. Either way, he would have his fun, too.
-
Crowley was right in the end. He sat for over an hour, staring at the Christmas tree- “oh, Crowley, it's OUR Christmas tree now!”- while he waited for Aziraphale to finish packing. He should have given him a luggage limit, he thought belatedly.
Two suitcases and a leather duffle bag appeared on the floor by his feet and Aziraphale descended the stairs.
“We aren't going to be there very long.”
“You're not sure how long we're going to be there.”
“I said we'd be back before Christmas.”
“Are you sure of that?” Aziraphale was standing in front of him now, hands on his hips. Crowley pressed his lips together. He didn't know if he wanted to bop him on the nose or kiss him.
“Bastard.”
“As charged,” Aziraphale sing-songed, picking up the duffle and heading for the door, “you coming?”
Crowley muttered and picked up the two suitcases, following him out.
“These are books.”
“Of course they are.”
“'Of course they are...' Aren't you going to help with the cookies? You bake now.”
“I bake cakes.”
“Cakes, cookies, what difference is it?” Crowley shut the luggage into the Bentley and ushered him to the passenger door, opening it for him.
“They are completely different things,” Aziraphale sat down primly. Crowley shut the door on him. He'd be squawking by the time he sat down inside, but in the moment it had been satisfying. The Universe was definitely testing him.
Aziraphale was quiet when he slid in beside him. Crowley turned the car on and edged out into the street before hitting the gas.
“I can help.”
“Neh, you don't have to.”
“I could be moral support.”
“Gladys and I can handle it, you can just relax and read.”
“Do you mean that? You can change your mind, you know.”
“Nah, you just have a couple days off your feet, eh?” He slid his hand over the angel's knee and gave it a squeeze.
“How did she manage to twist your arm into doing this, anyway?” Aziraphale's hand was over his, warm and soft. Crowley felt himself relaxing by degrees. This wouldn't be so bad, not with his angel along for the ride. Even if he didn't have the foggiest idea how to make cookies, either.
“Orphans.”
“Oh, oh dear.”
“Cold ones.”
“My goodness. She did lay it on thick.”
This was most certainly a trap. A cozy little trap. And he was driving right into it.
Can I get, he thought, a wahoo?

Jar of Rebuke Episode 3 Unofficial Transcript
Season 1 Episode 3: Cherry Tobacco
INTRO
The following audio recording is classified documentation for Case [audio distortion] with the Enclosure. Unauthorized access to this information will lead to immediate intervention. Progress further if proper clearance has been given.
JARED
I really need to get into the habit of doing this more often. Dr. Daman keeps asking how this is going, but I rarely have anything to tell her that she seems to want to hear. She really wants me to do this regularly, but sitting at my desk with a sore back didn't sound too appealing, especially if I didn't have to. Even though my back is feeling a bit better after the snipe hunt tournament incident, I'm actually recording this from a bed and breakfast. And I'm tired. Not even a vacation, it's more of a work trip. Not terribly much has happened since my last update. Darius's birthday was recently. He had a little get-together with some friends and he even invited me along, which was really nice. I made sure to get there a little early especially since it was a day off of work for me. We met up at Waytooth, a restaurant that his dads and him frequent often. I got there and just sat outside for a bit fiddling on my phone, then Darius showed up. He was so excited for the party, I could tell. He smiled the second we made eye contact. He jogged over to me and we talked for a bit. The weather is still pretty nice, it's finally starting to get chillier, which is actually nicer, I prefer the layers. So we sat outside and enjoyed the weather as we talked until his other friends showed up. They were all nice, but I kind of stuck by Darius most of the day since he was the only one that I really knew.
After lunch, we all went to a drive-in theater that they've got set up here in town, which is mostly just a projector and a large painted brick wall, but it was still a nice time. His friends all sat in different cars as we watched the movie, but Darius and I sat in the bed of his truck and ate snacks that he had packed. Darius is a really good cook. He's learning a lot of cool stuff from that class he's taking. I gave him a little gift, of course. Well, two things. I got him a new wrench set since he'd been saying that he needed a new one, his old one's been a bit worn down for a while. Uh, gifts to give him in front of his friends, since he really plays up the whole inheriting the family farm shtick around them. But we, when we were in his truck, just the two of us, I gave him his second gift. He said he had really gotten into cross stitching recently and he seemed a little embarrassed about it. But I wanted him to know that I thought that was interesting, so I got him a little pack of stitching patterns and some thread organizers. I wasn't sure what kind of patterns he'd like, so I just got him a couple of different kinds. He was quiet for a few moments after he opened that gift and I kind of panicked for a moment honestly. But he then gave me a really big smile and put his hand on my shoulder. He gave me a really soft thank you and I told him it was my pleasure, as long as he made me something. It was an obvious joke, at least I hoped it was obvious. But he asked what I'd want. I told him I like birds. Birds have so much freedom to just fly around and always sing such pretty songs. Besides geese, I don't like geese. He asked me if I had any favorites. I said I like blue jays. Major assholes, but beautiful. He laughed and he said he'd give it his best shot, but I told him that I’d hang up anything he made me. And that was about it. We barely watched the movie, we spent most of the time quietly talking actually.
What else have I done? Well, Dr. Castillo and I went and investigated the energy signatures from the cornfields after Todd told us to do so and you know what we found? Corn. That's it. Oh, and more corn! No energy spikes, no signs of tomfoolery of the natural or supernatural kind, nothing. It was almost strange how untouched by supernatural energies it seemed. We investigated during the day and at night. No changes. So we've been keeping tabs on the fields but nothing that's been too notable has happened when we're out there. We've been passing a lot of our time in the labs reorganizing files going over the energy spikes that have been recorded and theorizing what we could possibly be dealing with there. But until we can further examine it, there is not much we can do. Ever since they replaced my old lab partner my workload has been much lighter. I actually prefer to be busy than bored, and I think Dr. Castillo isn't used to having idle hands either. They only ever give me small menial tasks and it's becoming more annoying than anything else. But I did recently see my old lab partner, Dr. Lomax in the hall this morning. I've seen them in passing a few times but we haven't been able to catch up much since the sudden change. Dr. Lomax also has no idea why they got suddenly switched to a different lab. Seems that none of us know why the change was made. All Todd said was “just had to rearrange some staff, don't worry about it!”
Speaking of, before I left work today, I got another email from Todd. Typically his emails are him asking us to do something and then him talking himself up for multiple paragraphs and making it seem like it should be a privilege to do what he's asking you to do. But this email was him actually giving me lodging information for the local inn, and explaining that I had to pack up a bag and go. They apparently planned to do renovations or something on my house due to a concern of faulty plumbing. I'd mentioned to Dr. Daman about the less-than-stellar heating system when I wanted to take a bath or do dishes, but I didn't expect anyone to actually do anything about it. But a night without weird tapping on my door sounded nice, and even though I replied to the email basically saying “oh no, you really don't have to, I can live with it”, Todd insisted. I could just see his smug smile on the other side of the screen. He'll subtly hold it over my head for later, but the rule of one denial for good polite measure then acceptance of an offer had been met and I was off home to pack a bag. And here I am now.
The Chronicle Inn bed and breakfast is run by an older married couple, Ester and Laura. I'd met them a few times before my stay here but I hadn't spent much time with them. This place is mostly a restaurant and homemade goods store rather than an inn, considering we don't get many outsiders who stay here any longer than to grab a bite to eat and get gas. But for times like these it's nice to have an inn available. Even if it's only a few rooms, it's much better than staying at the facilities that the enclosure has on site. Work would have likely put me into a temporary on-site lodging space if the inn wasn't available. To be honest I'm surprised they actually put me in the end instead of just tossing me into some temp lodging room for a night. Maybe they remembered how much I hate that place. It's nearly impossible to sleep with the buzzing lights and the beds really aren't made for comfort and the bathrooms are all so claustrophobic. I swear, they make that place as uncomfortable as possible so people want to leave. That, or they just skimped on the prices for a comfortable setup to focus the money elsewhere at the Enclosure. I'd believe that. Though maybe they booked me at this place to have me investigate something while I'm here. Can't even enjoy this nice little one-night getaway, huh? They expect me to work? Do they plan to pay me for looking into things overnight? Probably not, not like they ever pay me for the full work I do anyways.
The room I’m in is kinda known for weird happenings. The whole town knows but there's not a huge fuss over it. No one's died from it, so why be too concerned? Ester warned me about these weird happenings while I was checking in. There's word of a spirit that haunts the upper floor of the building. Been here for as long as anyone can recall. She explained it all to me with a smile and a jovial tone, so she doesn't seem concerned. After the literal run-in with the deer a few weeks ago, I really just wanted some rest. Her wife Laura told me that they serve breakfast at 7 am but they'll be at the desk to take my key as early as 6. Thankfully tomorrow my shift starts at 8 instead of the usual 6 so I might be able to actually get some real food in me before work.
Didn't take me too long to get up here and settled in. I decided to just relax today instead of going out into town. So I did some reading in bed. Not that I could really focus much, the bed here is nice and cozy, but there's definitely a vibe about it. The room, not the bed. The rest of the inn is very homey, lived in, but in a good way. But the second I got to the top of the stairs it was like the air got barely but still noticeably cooler. When I came into the room I saw a little baggie of homemade beef jerky that Ester made and gave me. She's known around town for her jerkies and her woodwork. She's always so hands-on with everything she makes, whether it's snacks or a new set of chairs. She may have actually made the chair I'm sitting in right now, actually. I sat outside for a bit. There's a nice balcony that looks over some gardens and in the far distance I can see the vast fields. The evening felt so nice and I could see the little lightning bugs flying around as I got darker. I've always liked watching their dances. I often watch kids running around catching them in jars and then letting them all go just minutes later, but I prefer to watch them do their own thing out in nature. I watched the stars and the flicking lights of the lightning bugs for a bit, sipped on some sweet tea that Laura had brewed and offered me, ate some of the jerky that Ester made, and relaxed. I let my mind wander to wherever it went off to which as usual was all over the place. But no tapping on the doors, no weird deer staring at me, it was nice. But I keep feeling like something, or someone, is watching me. I feel that pretty often but this is different. It feels closer, if that makes sense. Like right now I'm sitting in a plush chair by the window in the room looking over the nice herb garden out back. The stars are still twinkling, the wind is just slightly blowing, and I've been able to crack the window open for some breeze. But I feel like something is watching me from the doorway. I swear to gods if I turn around and someone is standing there... (deep inhale) nope, nothing.
When Ester was telling me about what I could possibly expect, she said that a spirit had been wandering around in the room I'm staying in. Sometimes the spirit watches people. Sometimes the spirit just walks around and ignores the tenants. Must depend on her mood. But apparently something about the blue lamp by the bedside table really draws her out. Considering my line of work, and that my boss sent me here, I'm obviously going to turn on the light. Even if she's not rumored to be particularly dangerous, if they're just wanting to keep me busy then I could see Todd throwing me here to look into it a bit more. Okay. Hold on, give me a sec, let me see what happens. [lamp clicks on] It's a pretty light. I don't think I've seen a light this shade of blue outside of some of the lights they put up around town in the winter. It's nice. Oh, uh... hello? I don't know if she can hear me but I do see someone standing by the door, on the other side of the room, and um, [sniffs] tobacco?
THE BLUE LADY
I can hear you just fine.
JARED
[startled] Ah! Sorry about that. how are you?
THE BLUE LADY
Why do you ask?
JARED
Manners, I guess? Should I ask- who are you?
THE BLUE LADY
I don't think it really matters now. Besides, it's better I ask who you are.
JARED
Oh, uh, Dr. Jared Hel. I'm a scientist with the Enclosure on the edge of town. I…
THE BLUE LADY
WHO you are, not what you are. I know what you are.
JARED
...What I am is a person who would like to get some rest.
THE BLUE LADY
No, what you are is different. At least different from what I remember.
JARED
From what you remember? Have we met before?
THE BLUE LADY
Not exactly. “Met” isn't the word I would use. But we've interacted.
JARED
How so..?
THE BLUE LADY
I've watched you from afar, I've seen what you do. I guess our paths have more indirectly crossed.
JARED
I've never studied you before. You're not exactly the kind of thing that the enclosure typically sends me to study.
THE BLUE LADY
Then why are you here?
JARED
Well, work decided to fix the plumbing in my house so they put me up here. To get some rest.
THE BLUE LADY
And yet you're not here to study me?
JARED
Well that's actually unclear, I guess. I mean, if they're going to book me in the most haunted room at an inn, I guess they're having me investigate. Or Todd's just messing with me. That seems like something he'd pull.
THE BLUE LADY
Messing with you? [scoffs] When did you start putting up with the antics of people like that?
JARED
Okay, I'm gonna be upfront- if we met more than two years ago I have zero memory of any of that time. So this vague, cryptic talk is going to get you nowhere.
THE BLUE LADY
What are you doing with that thing?
JARED
[rustling sound] This it's an audio journal. It takes less focus and energy than writing. Are you just gonna keep staring at me or..?
THE BLUE LADY
People don't usually understand me this well for full conversations, so it has been quite a while. It isn't as if Ester and Laura can clearly understand me, even if they have tried.
JARED
How long have you been here?
THE BLUE LADY
Longer than I can remember. The rumor is that I've been here since the establishment of this town, whenever that may have been.
JARED
And when did we meet? I mean interact indirectly.
THE BLUE LADY
For the first time? It was many, many years ago. But again, you've certainly changed.
JARED
But again, I don't remember. You keep saying that and, [winces in pain] oh god my head!
THE BLUE LADY
We won't be getting very far right now.
JARED
No wait wait wait no hold on hold on.... and she's gone. [slams fist on table] Damn it! Why won't anyone just tell me anything outright? Oh my head... it's always like this. They disappear for a while and then come back so suddenly. Oh I hate this flesh prison! I'm done recording for now I need to try and nurse this headache now and recover from whatever the hell… oh it seems she left a little gift. Some blue ribbon? It's maybe four or five inches long, a little frayed at the ends. It's the same color as the lamp. There's something written on it. The handwriting's a bit hard to read but it looks like “you need to remember”. Remember what? How am I supposed to remember if no one ever tells me anything? Everyone always pushes me to try and remember but there's nothing to remember if they're making me grasp at thin air! They say they support me, they say they want to help, but what do they do to help, huh? All of this performative support is getting me nowhere. [facing away from recorder] And how is this ribbon supposed to help? You couldn't have given me something a little less vague? [groans] Why is everyone always so damn vague? Are they scared to just say something concrete? Why can't anyone ever give me a straight answer! No, it's fine. It's fine. I'm just… I'm going to go to bed. Right. I'm going to get some sleep. No tapping, no knocking, just sleep. I'm gonna go turn off the lamp and get some rest. Right. Ugh. Whatever. This is Dr. Jared Hel, signing off, I guess.

Are We Lost? - Pre Cult Kai.
Summary: Reader goes on a spontaneous road trip with Kai but things don't quite go to plan.
A/N: Inspired by a prompt by @clean-prompts. I’ve re-watched Cult again so that explains the imagines, lol.

Baby...C'mon, wake up! I made breakfast and stuff." Kai spoke softly as he entered the sun-lit room, armed with a tray full to the brim of pancakes stacked with a fountain of golden maple syrup poured on top and orange juice galore. He waited patiently for a couple of seconds, struggling to keep the tray full of delicious food balanced. Despite his failed attempt to wake you up, Kai placed the tray of food on the bedside table and got into bed beside you; his arm quickly found its way to your waist and pulled you closer to him as Kai started making quick work of planting soft kisses on the soft skin of your neck. You began to stir as the smell of the pancakes filled up your lungs and the soft kisses on your neck sent goosebumps everywhere on your body.
"D-Do I smell pancakes?" You asked half-asleep as you turned around to face Kai. You opened your eyes to look up at him before planting a soft kiss on his lips.
"Mhm, I woke up a while ago and thought I'd make some pancakes for you," Kai replied as you slowly sat yourself up in the bed, readjusting the bedsheets as you did so. Kai grabbed the tray from the bedside table and waited for you to get comfy before placing the tray of food gently on your lap. You studied the food as you swiftly picked up the cutlery and began to tuck into the fluffy pancakes.
"Thank you, baby." You spoke softly to Kai as he got out of bed and made his way to the wardrobe. You watched him as he opened the wooden door of the wardrobe and grabbed out a pair of jeans and a white top.
"I was thinking we could go on a road trip, I have a place in mind," Kai stated as you dipped a chunk of pancake in the maple syrup before eating it.
"I thought you were spending the day running errands for your Dad." You responded as you took a sip of the sweetish orange juice. Kai began to get undressed, changing out of his old frat shirt and into the shirt he picked from the wardrobe.
"Yeah that was the plan but..he's in one of his 'asshole' moods according to Mom, which doesn't make a change to how he normally is." Kai quickly answered with a scoff as he slipped into his jeans as you dipped the last piece of pancake on the plate in the last of the syrup and ate it.
"Mhm, fair enough but don't you think he'll mind?" You asked softly as you got up and walked over to Kai. Kai enclosed his arms around you, pulling you into a firm hug as you looked up at him, running your fingers through his hair.
"I suppose but it wouldn't make a difference anyway, besides we haven't done anything together in a while," Kai said as you cupped his face in your hands and looked in his soft brown eyes.
"Okay, I'll get changed into something and then we can get going to where it is you'd like to take me." You suggested. Kai gave you a soft kiss on your lips, you kissed him back leaving the kiss to linger for a little while.
TIME SKIP - 1 HOUR LATER.
You pulled the straps of the black slip dress onto the tops of your bare shoulders as you examined the dress in the mirror. Normally you'd wear the dress with a shirt underneath but today was far too hot for that. You grabbed your favourite pair of shoes and slipped them on as you gave yourself one final look in the mirror making sure everything was okay before you left the bedroom and ran downstairs to find Kai.
"Kai?" You asked as you grabbed a bottle of water from the kitchen. You walked outside to the front of your house to where Kai was.
"Hey baby," Kai replied as you walked over to the open boot of the truck. Kai stopped putting the bags in the boot as he looked you up and down, his mouth pretty much wide open. He might as well be drooling at this point.
"You look really...Wow...beautiful." Kai added as he lifted the flap on the boot up.
"Thanks baby, we ready to go?" You suggested as you sorted your dress out.
Kai agreed as he double-checked the boot before getting in the driver's side. You quickly followed and got in the passenger side.
Within a couple of minutes, the truck was in motion.
TIME SKIP - 3 HOURS LATER.
"Kai, it's okay if we're lost." You told Kai as you passed the same green sign for the third time in a row. You knew you were lost but Kai just didn't want to admit it.
"We're not lost, I swear." Kai insisted again for the third time. "I know where I'm going baby," Kai continued as he pulled over on the side of the road. You clutched his hand that was on the gear stick.
"Babe...Are we lost?" You asked yet again as you rubbed the top of his hand with your thumb.
"No! I know exactly where we are...I think." Kai stated as he looked over at you. "Just two secs babe," Kai added as he got out of the truck, leaving the door open behind him. He strolled to the back of the truck and looked around, you watched him in the wing mirror with a confused look on your face. He quickly stepped back and got back in the car.
"Okay, fine. We are lost." Kai finally admitted, throwing his hands in defeat in the air.
"Oh okay..." You replied as you watched Kai place his head and hands on the steering wheel and sigh.
"I'm sorry baby..." Kai mumbled as he looked over at you in defeat. "Today's gone terrible." He added weakly as he buried his face in his hands.
"It hasn't at all, I promise. There has to be a gas station somewhere around here, why don't we go get some snacks and chill out in the back for a little while?" You added as you placed your hand on Kai's back softly.
"Ok, okay. It's better than nothing." Kai replied as he put the keys back in the ignition and started the car. You two, after 20 minutes of driving, eventually found a little shabby gas station with a broken sign. You and Kai ventured into the gas station and spent more than what a reasonable human being would normally spend on snacks. You came out with all sorts: a dozen Twinkie bars, at least 3 different flavours of Hershey bars, more than 2 packs of Jolly Ranchers and a 6 pack of assorted crisps. You took your 30$ worth of food, which was definitely a rip-off according to Kai, back to the truck as you both hopped into the open boot. You took the blankets and pillows from the back of the truck and pulled them through the now-open partition window and arranged the blankets and pillows so you and Kai could relax and get fat together.
You laid down in Kai's arm as the sun began to set, the sky blending into an array of beautiful colours in front of you to see. Kai kissed the top of your head.
"I'm sorry about today," Kai said softly as you moved the empty Twinkie wrappers.
"You've got nothing to be sorry for, this has been one of the best days ever!" You exclaimed, hoping to reassure Kai.
"Really?" He asked as you looked at him intently. You nodded as you gave him a kiss.
"The best day of my life..."
