Bones is never diagnosed on the show, even though she has significant problems with social interactions and displays repetitive or obsessive behaviors—the main characteristics of ASD. In an interview, Hart Hansen, the creator of the show, admitted that he based Bones on a friend with Asperger’s syndrome (which is now diagnosed as ASD). But, according to him, Fox never came out and said this because the broadcast network was hoping the show would appeal to a larger audience. Deschanel has also said that her “character almost has Asperger’s syndrome.” - I'm an Autistic Woman, and Bones Is the Only Character Like Me on TV

Huh.

Autistic. Cam.

Despite the hours ticking away, she couldn’t go to bed. She was too deep in. She needed to do more research-- how could she be autistic? She wasn’t… like her other friends. Sure, she was a little anxious and perhaps a bit socially awkward, but… autistic?

However, despite the unease she felt on the surface, there was a part of her that seemed to be at rest for the first time in her life. A part that told her she just wasn’t trying hard enough, that she could be normal if she just worked a little harder. If she just dressed a little nicer, smiled a little bigger, spoke a little softer. If she got a little smaller, maybe nobody would notice how much space she really took up. If she quieted herself down, maybe nobody would notice how loud her thoughts could get.

For the first time in over thirty years, that part of her brain stilled.

once again!!! here's what i love about 9x11 in terms of what it says about autism!!

okay so, the professor?? he's autistic. once again, they didn't say it, but it was EXTREMELY obvious. him saying "i had chicken, if it was thursday. i like predictability" also they know his daughter there who always get his food meaning he probably gets the same one every week for years... mood <3

brennan immediately clocking that they're the same was such a special moment to me <3

it was soo sweet that she asked him if he wanted to finish his task first before they talk to him because that's such an integral part of autism, to struggle with transition, especially transition between tasks!!! what i really like about this show is that it feels like they truly sat down and researched how to make brennan a fully fleshed person who's autistic and not just said oh yeah she's bad with people and called it a day. it's soo important to me <3

ok in the beginning her saying "i find myself quite giddy at the prospect of discovering how it destroyed the remains" special interest time !!!

what do i do when i'm upset? you bury yourself in your work. ijust ! love the way she's like hey look at what i do (personnyou love) and now transfer that over to the professor who behaves the same way to have some empathy. love her <3

"booth refuses to accept the fact that i understand the professor because he and i are quite similar." "emotions are difficult for people like the professor and myself. getting lost in our work can be a refuge. booth thinks that makes us weird." "not everyone understands people like us"

i NEED to mention that brennan says "i have excellent pattern recoginition!" because of of course you do!! this is so well done <3

When i was 13-14 i spent a whole year watching all 12 seasons of Bones over and over again (i think i managed four rewatches in total) spent my whole winter and summer holidays in bed watching this show day and night not talking to anyone thinking noone gets me the way bones gets me shes everything i want to be, i should probably become an anthropologist and NO ONE thought hey maybe we should take this kid to a doctor and get her diagnosed :/

obsessed w the episode of Bones where they’re telling some wealthy lady with a mini pomeranian that her ex husband is dead and she starts crying and instead of offering any kind of comfort, brennan just takes the dog off her and happily exclaims (and this is verbatim) "he’s so compact!!"

if sweets hadnt…ya know…died, just think of the plotlines that could have been covered as he became a dad.

Lance sweets being so worried and afraid of hurting his son as he never got a good example of what parenting should have been like at that age. I like to think, as he had no family to guide him- booth and brennan would have been like godparents to his child and offered all of the support and love ever!!
