MODERN ATWOW BAND HEADCANONS !

✹ summary : in which i'm slowly crawling back to my avatar hyperfixation and i decided to make a band au!except I'm right (or not take this with a grain of salt hehe) and I frl can't see them playing any other roles

✹ author's note : let this not flop in eywa we pray 🙏 and yes, Daisy Jones and the Six is my favorite book, how did you guess?

It all started one balmy afternoon when Lo'ak and Spider were blowing off their biochemistry homework lying down on the floor staring at the cieling fan undeviatingly oscillate above them. Then, Lo'ak suddenly sits up from his spot causing Spider to look at him.

"What's up?" Asked Spider.

Lo'ak looks at him, a newfound determination in his wide eyes. "Dude, what if we start a band."

Spider frowns. "A band?"

"No, but hear me out for a second." says Lo'ak bristling in his spot as Spider sits up.

Although wary, Spider hums. "Alright."

"Think about it, school's almost over, we barely know anybody in this town, are we seriously gunna hangout in the beach all summer trying to make friends?"

Spider chuckles. "I think I'm missing the point where that's a bad idea."

"Spider, come on bro- look at us, we're losers alright? We're practically throwaway fish to the kids at school- but if we start a band, who knows how many people'll wanna be a part of it, we'll score a couple of life long friends AND it'll be our one solid excuse not to be at home" Lo'ak's riposte was proving to make sense, with a toothy smile to cap it off, but of course Spider- considering he was two years Lo'ak's senior had to pop his bubble with the pragmatic pin of reality.

"I don't know dude, it sounds kinda lame." Spider replies hesitantly, propping himself up by his elbows. "We've been trying to start a band since 7th grade, we always end up calling it quits on the 3rd week."

"This time it'll be different."

Spider scoffs. "Uh-huh? How "

Lo'ak nudges his right shoulder upwards. "We'll ask Neteyam to help."

Spider shoots him yet another look. "If he doesn't want to help?"

"We make do," Lo'ak shrugs. "What's wrong with a two man band?"

"Almost everything." Spider snorts.

★ lo'ak ──────── electric guitar

when they used to live back in high camp, he found an old silvertone in their attic that used to belong to jake during his marine days along with scores of 70's rock bands' songs on yellowing paper fraying at the edges and folds.

He spent 3 months learning a song with 4 chords by ear and performed it at the school talent show

When he got into 6th grade he did not only beg, for an electric guitar he GROVELED. He suddenly wanted to do all the chores in the house, he suddenly got C's instead of D's in tests, it was terrifying because who the hell WAS this and what did they do to the real Lo'ak???

Jake and Neytiri didn't give him one until he was 13. Jake just picked him up from school one day and all of a sudden just asked: you wanna get that electric guitar?

LO'AK WAS OVER THE GODDAMN MOON.

got a classic red stratocaster.

The first song he ever learned to play on the guitar was buddy holly by weezer...

Come on you guys what were you expecting

likes picking at his finger scabs and does it until neteyam or tsireya tells him off.

has multiple guitar picks but always uses this specific one he made into a necklace and wears it everywhere.

THEN PROCEEDS TO LOSE SAID GUITAR PICKS

tuk keeps hiding them around the house waiting for lo'ak to lose his mind.

he can play any song by ear, just watch.

plays around with riffs more often than not.

★ neteyam ──────── back up vocalist / lyricist

never even wanted to join the band but was bullied into joining (kiri joined when he said he wouldn't just to spite him)

has perfect pitch (are we surprised though)

YOU'D SNEEZE AND BITCH ASS CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT NOTE IT'S AT.

uses it to nitpick Lo'ak when he's straying from the original pitch.

lo'ak will then threaten to cave his face in with his capo.

his favorite artists are frank ocean and kendrick lamar.

no one in his entire school woulda guessed he could sing. Nobody.

was made to sing in family events... (iykyk)

loves musicals. his favorite's Hamilton...

Jake and Neytiri took him to see Hamilton once in New York when he was 11, he's never been the same since.

HAS MAJOR FUCKING STAGE FRIGHT I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. HE WILL NOT GO ON STAGE UNTIL YOU SMACK HIM IN THE HEAD SO HARD HIS BRAIN RESETS AND SUDDENLY HAS THE BALLS TO FACE THE AUDIENCE.

Once he's out there though he totally changes, he gets more confident, when he's really feeling it then his braids start flying everywhere... it's becoming an issue really, he might take someone's eye out with how solid his hair beads are...

hurled his guts out one time before they had to perform at the end of year school fair.

★ kiri ──────── pianist

there are always four types of gays. English Teacher Gays, Art Teacher Gays, History Teacher Gays, and Music Teacher Gays.

Kiri was definitely the last one.

lo'ak got her a shirt that says "key master" with her face horribly photoshopped onto the keys of a piano.

she burned it the night she got it.

til this day lo'ak never knew what happened to it.

was in the school choir and would play the piano in their choir director's stead.

has been playing the piano for 9 years but always gets confused when asked to play a flat or a sharp (it takes her 4 tries to figure out where C minor is)

her favorite piece to play is over the waves by juventino rosas.

when she wants to show jake a new piece she's been working on, by the first minute he's out like a fucking light. SHE'S JUST THAT GOOD.

also when she wants to play a piece with too many chords she never wanted to play it in the first place.

once she messes up she's definitely one of those people who spams the keys.

one time when she was playing a piece her fingers cramped mid-song and she freaked out.

★ spider ──────── drums

his dad's military friends taught him how to play the drums.

lo'ak dared him he couldn't do a drumroll for an hour.

spider did it in two and a half but stopped cuz he got hungry LMAO.

impresses kiri with various drumstick spins, it dosen't impress her.

practically worshipped that one vine of those two kids.

was definitely one of those kids that played with overturned pots and pans and pretended it was a drum set (it annoyed the hell outta norm)

once lost his drum sticks and used chopsticks (ps. they weren't the same)

scribbled their band logo on his bass drum and was very proud of it.

INSISTED they would call themselves "the seven skxawngs"

nobody listened to him.

when they held auditions for their drummer he went "You guys know I can play the drums right?"

has never watched whiplash.

uploads drum covers on his tiktok account with 70 followers.

makes dumb jokes if the others can't figure out a certain chord or note he'd go "guys maybe it's at H!"

the most chillest person in the band though frl.

somehow always manages to pull??? The amount of game this man has solely just because he's the drummer is wild.

they once performed at an event with 50 people and Spider was wearing addidas slides the entire time and nobody noticed.

★ tsireya ──────── main vocals/lyricist

When I tell you this kid can SING SHE CAN SING.

frl the real life ariel I swear evrrytime she opens her mouth everyone's wishing on her downfall because she's such a talented singer, her vibratro is so measured, her runs are so clean, she's just so UGHHHH.

is such a theatre kid oh Lord.

was made to sing at family events too (it's practically a canon event atp guys.)

has a special journal where she writes her song lyrics that she takes with her everywhere (give her 5 minutes and she can write a song with just her hand as paper and eyeliner as a pen.)

joined in singing competitions when she was a kid and when she was 10 joined a televised singing competition and managed to make it to the semi-finals.

it's why she's the lead singer of the band anyway.

she always has pearls threaded into her hair every time they perform and it's been her signature look ever since.

her voice is fucking angelic ya'll istg.

is a soprano. enough said.

is amazing at reading sheet music.

she and neteyam wrote 3 original songs that the band performs everytime they get a gig.

aside from singing she can play piano and violin too.

she's a fucking wordsmith too like she's so eloquent and knows all these big words and she's good at expressing her pent up emotions through songwriting.

the literal it girl. Everyone in their band gained more popularity ever since they opened for a popular band from L.A. but everyone in their high-school knows her name. Everyone.

her vocal control is amazing.

she really knows how to liven up a crowd.

★ aonung ──────── rhythm guitar

has been playing guitar since he was 7.

took up guitaring because his dad introduced him and tsireya to playing instruments at a young age.

collects guitar straps.

neteyam's always on his ass about if what he's playing sounds right or not (50% of the time he's not)

it isn't practice without neteyam and aonung almost throwing hands at least thrice.

almost always smokes while practicing.

oddly enough only has one guitar pick and he hasn't lost it yet unlike lo'ak who buys new guitar picks every other month.

obsessed with black nailpolish, you won't see him go on stage without black nails istg.

he didn't even audition for the band. He was just always there at the Sully residence to pick Tsireya up from practice until one day Tsireya told him to come inside the house, when he did he finds out they needed someone for rhythm guitar and that Tsireya let it slip that Aonung knew how to play.

he's been a part of the band ever since.

he's just incredibly good with his fingers, enough said.

after the first time they performed their first gig at some girl's house party, he, rotxo, and lo'ak got high on the rooftop of Aonung's house (yk until Lo'ak slipped and started dangling from the gutters and fell into the pool)

his outfits always eat every time they perform.

james hetfield the goat.

always experimenting with new riffs and runs and adds them to the songs mid-performance and without any warning (just to piss neteyam off)

★ rotxo ──────── bass guitar

the glue and heart of the band frl.

the sweetest basist you'll ever meet.

his family actually owns a popular guitar shop in Awa'atlu, he first started playing the guitar at the ripe age of 5.

Bro is a prodigy but dosen't want to admit it.

aonung bought his first guitar at rotxo's family's shop, they hit it off ever since.

Always brings his baked goods to practices (then kiri devours the entire tray when you aren't looking)

actually fucked up his audition for the band but then Lo'ak found him sobbing in a janitors closet and gave him a second shot at an audition with just Lo'ak and Spider and he was able to redeem himself.

(really only auditioned cuz he played bass, they were finding a bassist, and not because kiri sully was their pianist)

is an introvert but he's so fucking funny that you wouldn't suspect it.

can perform riffs in his sleep (no he actually does though it freaks aonung out when he spends the night in his place.)

kiri made him a resin guitar pick with fragments of coral from the beach when they had their first date.

has a "maturing is realizing bass is the superior instrument" tshirt.

one time wore finger condoms so his scabs wouldn't re-open and bleed all over his guitar 😔

loves playing deftones on the bass.

has chronic "guitar face"

So some Red Link anybody??

The expression sheet is by @magicalpouchofmagic :D

Okay bunches of these aus are not mine and I think I should tell you guys which aus these are inspired/from.

The lost au is mine.

Linked universe is from @linkeduniverse .

As far as I know, there is no active spirit, glitch techs, villian, interverted, My hero academia, persinality swap, malice, only survivor, betrayed, street fighter/zombies, lonk, bad end, or cursed aus currently out there.

I think there are bunches of pokemon aus, but I have never seen any Four swords pokemon aus. (At least… not yet)

Modern aus, there are just is many. I could name them all, but I’m pretty sure that their is just too many…

The band one is (kinda, it was more inspired because I didn’t really know that this person made a band au before making this…) @ballad-of-the-demon-king ‘s band au… but only kinda? I… i really didn’t look at present aus..

Shadow didn’t die is also a very popular au and I don’t think I can name them all.

Lil Red is inspired and kinda from the little linked chain au.. i don’t know who its by, but if any of you know., please tell me!

Pre-Adventure is a linked universe au. I don’t know who it is by, but it does exist.

Once again, there are quite a few Adult aus. The one I mainly took inspiration from was by @askthe4swordfamily . There is undoubtedly more aus out there though.

The lots of Ravios au is by @bowl-of-ravioli . Highly recommend and is great!

The dragon prince is my friend’s au idea, but they aren’t on tumblr so yeah. They also have the avatar au idea.

There are once again, so many corruption aus, one being my lost au. A good one is @telemna-hyelle ‘s palace of the four fic. This Red is not from that au, but its still a great au nontheless.

Species swap is another linked universe au. This Red is not from that au, instead he is mainly inspired by that au’s four. No clue who came up with this au so I’m going to leave it blank for now.

As far as I know, also no Four swords or linked universe Hogwarts au. Sad.

Finally the shadow is inspired from @kaenith mirror!mirror au.. (I think thats the name? I may not be 100 percent sure. All I know is that its also called role reversal au.) I don’t know of kaenith actually made the au or not, but I saw their designs and loved it.

Also the ship one.. I think its safe to say that there are so many aus of that… soo uhh.. yeah.

The Bribe (Uneditted and not Beta'd)

(A/N we die like every other math rock band)

Indie artists needed!!

Opener for a show!

Once he has finished reviewing the audio, he turns to the scheduler. "Dash! I've already sent you the details, can you please slot them in second?"

"..."

"Dash? Is it my Japanese or your aids…"

The owner taps her on the shoulder.

"Dash!"

"Yes?" Dash looks up all confused.

"Details on phone. Slot them in second."

"Okay!"

It has been a busy day today, but not for Dash however. Scheduling is quite quick and easy lately, since all the bands that do play seem to just pick the schedule themselves. That means, no need to do much work. Dash has mostly been cleaning.

The real work is reviewing who's actually worth letting on the stage.

Now that's busy work.

The owner doesn't really have a standard, so almost anyone gets a chance, but sometimes there are bands who really can't even play and just wanted the money.

Anyway, it has been a few grueling hours. For the owner at least. Not that Dash could hear him mumbling and groaning disappointingly.

Ravio said that he thought it had been very interesting.

"Uncle, there's still 30 minutes left empty in the Saturday schedule."

Legend's uncle takes a quick glance then does a little squint at him. "And?"

"...come on, do I have to spill it out…"

"If you want to play, the answer is no. Tell Dash to push everything down half an hour."

Despite all attempts to convince his uncle, Legend's band still hasn't got the chance to actually play in front of the crowd. 'You guys need a little more practice- and.. something else..' His uncle said, but... Legend promised Wind that they will play as soon as possible.

It's a Badge of Maturity, after all.

Twilight thinks they're not "mature" enough for playing yet, but Legend will also prove him wrong. Well. Not right now. Right now he has to text their Japanese scheduler.

"Dash"

"ヾ(＾∇＾)"

"Can you move everyone on Saturday down half an hour? To fill in the vacant gap."

" ハ____ハ｡ﾟﾟ･｡･ﾟﾟ｡"

"Actually, can I ask you something?"

"(｡· v ·｡) ?"

Legend pauses for a bit. An idea. He takes a deep breath.

"Can you put us in for the spare slot?"

"Didn't you signed up for an opener at Apple's?" Hyrule asks, and he sits in one of the weirdest positions on the couch. His eyes are fixed on his laptop, which is also in the strangest position, with his bootlegged music program still open, along with 300 tabs.

"Didn't get picked." Wild shrugged, sitting equally as weird and pedals on his belly. He never says this, but he is quite happy that they didn't get picked. He feels as if he hasn't practiced enough yet, and he still forgets the songs from time to time. Besides, they have played at Apple's before. Odd hour on a less crowded day, but it went well, so they will probably get slotted next time.

"This close Rulie. This close." Warriors slaps on his own instrument to emphasize his words. Wild thinks Warriors is quite sad after failing to get the deal, but is holding himself together really well. He ego took quite a toll, after all, and Wild hopes that Warriors would let this slide quickly. He is making everyone practice twice as hard and Wild needs his breaks. If this continues, he guesses he'll pass out. Maybe then Warriors will have some mercy.

Hyrule continues to type something, eyes still haven't left his screen. "One of my friends says that he asked the scheduler directly for a slot," he says.

Wild quickly adjusts himself as he turns to Warriors. Please

"Can you tell him to help another friend out?" Warriors says jokingly. "You know, give us their number or contact?"

"You can find her at Apple's front door." Hyrule says. "But I doubt it's that easy. My friend knows the owner. You don't."

"Sounds like nepotism-" Wild mumbles.

"I've never failed at convincing people." Warriors says. "What's her name?"

"Dash says no." Ravio translates.

"Someone.. um.. is in vacant slot." Dash says. "legAsea. Schedule this month is full."

Warriors punches his fist to the counter, but not hard enough to startle anyone. "This. Close!" They were this close.

"Question: Wouldn't you lose your job if your boss realizes what happened?" Four asks.

"The guy in legAsea will keep us safe." Ravio shrugs. "We don't lose much."

"Dash also says she can keep it a secret until it's too late to back out. And they will also pay us back."

Warriors sighs. If it comes to that, then two can play that game. "Dash, what if we bribe you?" Warriors says.

"What's the point of paying her if we're trying to get gigs for money?" Four snorts.

"No." Dash says. "Unless…"

"Yes?" Warriors leans in. "Unless?"

"Can you guys play better?"

"We played here once!" Warriors says. "We introduced ourselves! Remember us, the Timeline Breakers?"

"I… can't translate that." Ravio cuts in. "Would you transliterate it or just use the same word?"

Dash shakes her head either way. "Show me," she says, smirking and staring at Warriors dead in the eye. "Play right now."

Ravio quickly tries to stop whatever is going on. "Wait Dash no-"

"Oh, would you like an impromptu jam session?" Warriors smiles. He clearly can't say no to that! He looks over to Four, who just sorta shrugs.

"Dash says yes but I'm saying no. Don't we need permission?"

Warriors and Dash both ignored Ravio. "Four, call Wild." Warrior says. "We have an emergency."

"What the Hylia are they doing?" Legend asks once he enters the livehouse.

"You're saying like it's not normal." Time says as he tries to step over some wires. "It's a place for music afterall." Although, he would admit that there are more wires than he'd usually like.

"Yes, but not at 4pm on a Wednesday! Does uncle know? Ravio!" Legend says as he leans inside the drinks bar. "I left for one hour."

"And they asked for 20 minutes." Ravio says as he scrambles to find the words from inside the trashcan he's hiding. "Ask Dash! I did try to stop them because I can't tell whether or not we need a permit for this!"

"I don't think you do, this place is pretty soundproof. And you guys don't open until an hour so they have plenty of time. Unless they are asking for money - Can you explain what is happening?" Time says, as he pulls Ravio out. The guy is covered fully in trash.

"Dash challenged them to impress her and since they can't play on Saturday also they're borrowing the amplifiers and"

"Alright, who are they?" Legend cuts Ravio off.

"Timelin-"

"The idiot band?"

"Now, Legend, I wouldn't call them idiot." Time chuckles.

The room echoes with the speakers screeching and everyone covering their ears.

"Hey, get off the stage!" Legend heckles. But Dash promptly places a finger on his mouth, whispering, "shush".

Legend mumbles something in Japanese with a murderous tone, but Dash just replies with a smile.

Legend just rolls his eyes. "We'll see."

Time taps on Dash's shoulder to get her attention. "I'm excited. I like these fellas."

"No you don't." Legend mumbles.

"WE ARE TIMELINE BREAKERS!" Wild yells without a mic. "THIS ONE'S FOR YOU DASH! ALSO, SCREW YOU LEGEND, YOUR BASSLINE SUCKS!"

They played a song that Dash hasn't seen anyone play since 2003.

An obscured song that almost got lost through time. It still exists in Dash's playlist, but other than that, barely anyone knows this track.

Dash starts humming loudly (but badly, because this is very difficult to hum) to the music, and Warrior's face seems to light up for a second once he notices what she is doing.

They both nod at each other, happy at their new found kinship.

What a shame, when her tinnitus starts to flare up right that moment.

No, no Dash, you started this, you can't just end it now.

Besides! This is a once in a life time occurrence! How often would anyone know this, let alone play this? She can ignore it for a second.

Dash starts rubbing her ear as the ringing slowly gets louder. Time taps on her shoulder, points at her and gives her thumbs up, while mouthing, "Are you okay?"

Dash gives a thumbs up back. A lie. She is not okay, but she doubts it will get worse.

It got worse.

Time looks over at her, very concerned. He runs off and brings Legend with him. Dash starts plugging her ears. The distorted guitar does not help right now.

Dash resorts to text as she sits quietly.

"Alright, party's over." Legend says once everyone finishes putting away their instruments. "But she did say your music is awesome," he translates.

"Wait, really??" Champion's eyes practically light up. "Like, really really?" Almost as if he thought he was lying.

"I know she did!" Warriors smugly says, tugging Wild in from the shoulder. "We did well!"

Dash texts (and signs) something again, and Legend was about to reply, "Yea, I will tell them that," but he just thought of something devious. They don't need to know what she says, do they?

"What did she say?" Champion asks.

"She says she was lying, and that your music sucks." Legend says without blinking an eye.

"Oh," Champion says. Captain just mumbles, "There we go", while Smith just rolls his eyes.

Dash, clearly confused at the reaction, asks, "Why does he look so confused?"

"Trust."

"No, really, your music sucks and honestly she was thinking of not slotting you guys in for the schedule." Legend says with the most devious smile.

"Alright, I think we can end it here, or else someone will have a headache." Time gestures over to the scheduler. "Anyone who doesn't need to be here, see you."

"Oh, but before you leave, take this." Time hands them a letter. Looks like some sort of invitation?

"What's this Old Man?" Legend asks. He has two extras.

"That? Unless you open them, it's a secret to everybody."

Avatar Modern au | High School edition (Sully kids + Spider)

A/N: The ages and grades are just based off me. Also all these head cannons are either based off of common high school experiences, my high school experience, or things that happened at my high school. This is my first time tryna write like actual Headcanons. If these are received well I’ll make more. I’ll a tag list too if needed.

Lo’ak

He’s 14 so he would be a freshman(9th grade)

Had a xxxtention Bart simpson phase In 6th grade

Thinks he’s on that popular loner shit

Hangs out with the sophomores and juniors because of Neteyam and spider

Yk his lanky ass on the basketball team

B student cuz he gotta keep them grades up to play sports

His dramatic ass is definitely in theater

Tried skipping with aonung once and neytiri beat his ass

You can’t tell me him and tsireya ain’t the power couple of the school

He always getting caught with that damn phone

Vaped once and nearly chocked to death

Annoys the hell out of kiri

“Ay ain’t you teyam’s lil brother”

Neteyam

15 so he’s a sophomore(10th grade)

Actually on that popular loner shit

Man’s the school heartthrob

All them girls want him

And he’s oblivious TO ALL OF IT

Always having to deal with lo’aks bull shit

Effortlessly has all A’s

Probably in ROTC to make Jake happy

All the teachers love him

Takes honors science and math like a psycho

Probably dose track and archery

Voted class best boy

Somehow ending up carrying all his siblings snacks

Kiri

14 so she’s a freshman

Finally get to peek at what the band is like on stage. What their music is like, and how Shar manages to make anything work despite the band seeming to be a complete failure.

Not to mention a bit of pining. It's fine to pine after someone you've met literally less than twelve hours ago, right? That's normal...

What if one of Sojiro's lines had worked on Wakaba? What if they had met before she had Futaba? What if they had a son first? Basically Akira is Sojiro and Wakaba's son, sent to Inaba as a baby to avoid risk, and when Futaba is born the next year, she joins him. The kid is Makoto they raise Makoto

Ages differ here, cause Sae's just barely out of high school when she's left orphaned with her baby sister in her care. She can't handle that and a law degree, but luckily, one of her father's old companions from a case long ago just moved to Tokyo with their wife and are willing to raise Makoto and support her through school (it's Naoto and Rise). Follows the events of P5 but with a more settled Makoto

Mecha Au

Follows the third Attack Team of Mech pilots, as they try to keep back the waves of Kaiju attacking Base City, which was once Tokyo
