Do you think UT would truly allow any harm to come to Our!Ciel? And do you think he cares for him at all? He appears to be actively working against him in the story currently alongside Real!Ciel, and Our!Ciel is working to shut down his bizarre doll operations. But, at the end of the day he is still a member of the Phantomhive family, and Vincent’s son, no less. The contrast between his dedication to the Phantomhive family and his constant conflict with Our!Ciel makes me question what his real end goal here is. What do you think it is?
Undertaker's feelings and plans
1. He might allow it. Depending on how you define "harm"... he might even plan on doing some, though I don't think he would see it as harm.
2. Yes, I do think he cares about our earl. It's just that his methods for trying to save the remaining Phantomhives are highly questionable. Undertaker seems to be losing touch with reality, in some ways, probably due to some interruption or halt in his grieving process... which is rather ironic, given his choice of profession as an undertaker.
3. There are many ways this could go, but the way he sees the twins as essentially the same -- it doesn't matter too much to him which is which -- he might think it's perfectly reasonable to combine them and make them "one", as if he's putting two halves together to make a whole. Our earl has a soul, but his body is sort of weak from recurring bouts of asthma. Real Ciel would have a strong body (once Undertaker perfects his reanimating techniques), but he no longer has a soul. Combining our earl's soul with real Ciel's body might strike him as some sort of perfection. The Ultimate Bizarre Doll -- or Ultimate Doll -- if you will. This would, in his mind, have the added bonus of removing our earl's soul from a body that's marked with a demon contract. He might think that doing this would make the contract null and void. I don't think it would work as well as he would hope....

i truly say this with no malice in my heart but black butler fans who think the series peaked at book of circus/that the circus didn't deserve their fate........... are 7 times out of 10 not really black-butler-as-a-whole fans and are very unwilling to engage with the main themes and characters of the series as a whole. BoC was a fantastic high and had tons of engaging characters but I've met people who still hate ciel bc he had doll killed and that is CRAZY. to love a side character so much that it renders you unwilling to let the main/objectively most complex and important character into your heart at all. I'm sorry that the circus died but even though they loved each other they were also child murderers- in doll's case she still is LOL- and their most important narrative role is their impact on ciel/snake (whose plotline ties back to ciel's ideas about lies becoming the truth, so still a ciel thing ultimately). anyways the best arcs are Green Witch because it's good and Book of Murder because it's funny

Lord Canopus, revealed
So, we have received confirmation in ch. 204 that Doll is Lord Canopus, as many in the fandom have theorized. I personally believed this too, not because Vega was most likely Layla/Al (and canopus was the only left), but because her personality fits with the japanese chart about blood type personalities. By now we know these canopus/Types B: Lizzie, Doll, Redmond, Lau, Bard, Wolfram, and all the corgi class students like Mabel and Ginny.
Tumblr media
"Type B blood people are creative, cheerful, independent, laid-back, and adventurous. They are quick thinkers and spontaneous, as well as passionate and strong-willed. They do things at their own pace, and mostly end up going their own way because they are not good at follow orders, so they are known too as the "rule-breakers". They are honest and caring at heart, and make friends easily because they are loyal and non-pretentious. On the other hand, their negative traits include being “wild,” selfish, unforgiving, irresponsible and unpredictable. When type B blood people focus on something, they put their all into it, and they are unlikely to let go, even if the goal seems unachievable or impractical."
There are interesting things in the symbolism of canopus too:
Tumblr media
Canopus was the helmsman of the Argo Navis, the ship of Jason and the Argonauts, who served King Menelaus. Canopus is described as a handsome young man who was loved by a egyptian prophetess, but never reciprocated her feelings. While visiting the Egyptian coast, Canopus was bitten by a serpent and died, and Menelaus then built a monument to his memory on the shore where this happened, around which the town of Canopus later grew up. In this town was worshipped the egiptian god Osiris, under a peculiar form: that of a vase with a human head. Osiris is a god who is in among other things, the Lord of the afterlife, the dead, resurrection and life in ancient Egyptian religion).
Osiris is the name of the group/company Undertaker was supposedly working with on his bizarre doll/resurrection project during the Campania arc. It is curious too the way Canopus died (it will implicate Doll's fate in the future?... although for now I see it unlikely).
About Doll's role in the plot, I don't think she will be killed (in this arc), because I think our Ciel will see her again, it would be a poor choice on Yana's part to reintroduce Doll just to kill her off so quickly, what would be the point then? And we still don't know why Undertaker revived her either. The "Stars" require a lot of work and huge amount of resources to function properly, and her blood type is rare (not as rare as Sirius but still rare), so why Undertaker gave her such preferential treatment is a mystery. I don't think he has revived her just to mortify OCiel, there must be another reason.
Tumblr media
And some things start to make sense now, just at this part. I don't think the relationship between RCiel and Doll is good at all, since RCiel wouldn't tolerate someone who hold such a big grudge against his brother, and Doll wouldn't like the idea of dealing with the brother of the one who killed her and her family. So it makes sense not to mention Canopus as a candidate for his butler.
Besides, the butler of RCiel would need to be a fighter, and unlike Lizzie, strength in combat doesn't seem to be Doll's strong point, who also seems to be in a delicate state. Polaris fought AGNI and won, Layla(Al) almost beat Ronald if it wasn't for William's intervention, but Doll just walk and collapse? Like with RCiel, that could be because of a low blood supply.
Tumblr media
What will happen now?
Regarding what will happen next, I was somehow expecting a confrontation between Doll and Finnian, but in her current state that seems impossible, since she probably can barely move, so the whole conflict will happen between Finny and Snake.
Tumblr media
Doll is an important part of Snake's character. She is the first person who reached out for him, and in his memories she is the most prominent figure of his "circus family". The worst thing is that Snake has been serving loyally to the one who ordered her death, and him forgiving OCiel after finding out seems unlikely. There are inocent children involved too, so the situation is really complicated. It will all depends on what are Snake's priorities and loyalty, but I wonder if he will bear with the idea of killing Doll, I highly doubt it (I hope he and Finny save the kids though).
On the other hand, I expect Finnian not to die and return to OCiel and Sebastian, but he could learn from Doll the truth about Sebastian's nature. At first obviously not believing her words, but the seed of doubt would be planted, as he could remember Sebastian's strange behavior in the Emerald Witch arc. Finnian could confirm this later, causing a huge conflict between the servants and Sebastian, who would want to protect their master from him, and complicating things for our Ciel.
In addition, we must consider that Meyrin and Bard have already achieved 2 victories for OCiel, will this be the occasion where RCiel will win a game?

Was debating whether to include bizarre doll RCiel in my Familiar AU or not but then it occurred to me. The day RCiel was sacrificed by the cultists, OCiel was pretty much dying of a respiratory infection, he was literally dragged away kicking and screaming while he tried to cling to his unconscious brother’s body, and he died thinking OCiel was going to die too. Maybe after reanimating him, Undertaker keeps him in the dark about his brother surviving, like both twins think the other one is dead (I mean yeah, he isn’t really RCiel, as the real one’s soul was devoured by Sebastian, but he has his memories so he’s like a backup copy lmao) and when eventually they see each other angst and drama ensues 💔 (It's one of the posibilities tho).

Hi, anon! As you observed, Doll’s episode of wooziness followed by collapse and subsequent protrusion of the veins beneath her skin mirrors a similar scene in Chapter 149, where R!Ciel’s body temporarily gave out after he “reached [his] limit.”
To the best of my knowledge, none of the other bizarre dolls we’ve seen previously have manifested these symptoms:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, my assumption was that Doll and R!Ciel are both exhibiting signs of dwindling blood reserves. I can’t remember if this is canonically accurate, but perhaps they require transfusions more often because they’re more sophisticated (i.e. in terms of cognitive function) than the earlier bizarre doll prototypes like the ones aboard the Campania? Admittedly, Layla didn’t present with these symptoms despite suffering blood loss after her clash with Bardroy and Lau…but perhaps it takes a while for the fatigue and body-horror realness to set in (Plus, her outfit generally doesn’t give us a clear view of her skin, so it’s difficult to tell).
Of course, it’s entirely possible that Sirius blood has a shorter expiration date, and I just forgot that Yana mentioned it; I have profound amnesia where the Blue Cult arc is concerned. 🙈 But it would certainly be an ironic twist if Doll happened to have the same blood type as the twins—an excellent way for sensei to pour salt on our wounds while further highlighting Doll’s connection to O!Ciel. 💔

If Ciel makes friends with people from every single country (and species) he could build himself an empire. Maybe to go up against Undertaker and his army of dolls.

How old are these children/teens in the Koro-verse? Our Ciel, BD Real Ciel, Lizzy, Finny, Edward, Soma, Snake, Sieglinde, BD Doll(Freckles?) In the modern world they would be considered to be children or teens, Would they be considered to be teens or young adult in the British Victorian Era?
The "kid" ages
Real Ciel and our earl: about to turn 14
Lizzy: getting close to 15
Finny: about 16 during most of this, so probably close to 17 now
Edward: he's a prefect now, I think, so he's probably about 17/18
Soma: also about 17/18
Snake: I'm guessing about 17/18
Sieglinde: the youngest in the list, only about 12/13 now
Doll: 16 during the circus arc. Joker talks about Doll's tooth coming loose when she was 6, in a side chapter, and it was a flashback to ten years before.
Weston accepts students aged 13-18, though some might turn 19 before they graduate, due to when their birthday falls during the year.
In the UK, 17 is generally considered a young adult with most (if not all) adult legal rights. Rachel was married off to Vincent when she was 18, and he was about 24. Of course, it's a bit different for the girls, as they were essentially seen as property, passed from the father's household to her new husband's house. She moved out with whatever dowry and other personal belongings she had. Marriages could be finalized even sooner, since parents often arranged them, but they typically waited until both bride and groom were at least 17 before the actual wedding took place. Unless there was a "need" to marry them sooner, like a shotgun wedding....
More info than you were really asking for, but there ya go.
I'm honestly not an expert on legal ages and marriage in Victorian England, so I'd suggest googling for info on that, if you want to know more details. But I think I got the basics more right than wrong. 😆

Unlike Real!Ciel, where we get an idea of what he was like in the past from Our!Ciel’s POV but there’s still a lot we don’t know, Doll is a character we know well as a human.
As the one character that we fully see as both human and bizarre doll, she could provide a useful frame of reference for how these advanced bizarre dolls compare to their human selves.
This comparison could also help clue us in on what about the bizarre doll Real!Ciel could be more in-line with his real personality vs coming from the bizarre doll state.

It raises from the dead just like Bizarre Dolls
Guys, you see this little saphire owl on the right side of the mirror or whatever it is?
And this demon eye in the shadow?
I pray with all my heart for it to be amazing!

Anyone else feel like Lizzy is being way too mean to O!Ciel about the twin switch thing? He's still her cousin that she grew up with, it's not like he's a stranger who stole his identity. She's treating him so coldly, like none of the last 4 years between them meant anything. I get that she feels betrayed, but damn, poor O!Ciel.

Okay I’m too tired to keep listening to Dark Heir but I’ve got a whole bus ride home so I’m going to spin Black Butler thoughts at you all.
(Idk how coherent this is, I’m sorry if it’s rambly my brain is SO dead but it wants to Talk so)
I’m thinking about… the gradual build of Sebastian’s fear that he could actually lose Ciel, as we go:
The asthma attack in Circus Arc: not ultimately serious, but a danger to Ciel’s wellbeing Sebastian had not been aware of and cannot easily fix
The fight on the Campania, where Sebastian is very seriously injured himself, to the point where he’s in danger of losing Ciel to Undertaker because he can’t physically stop him from being taken,
Which leads into THIS fucking moment in school arc:
Tumblr media
which is entirely fueled by Sebastians fear that Undertaker will snatch Ciel out from under him, AGAIN, because he did it before
AND THEN GREEN WITCH ARC HAPPENS, where Sebastian gets within literal minutes of losing Ciel to the gas, and WOULD HAVE if Sieglinde hadn’t been there or hadn’t been willing to help them
And still in Green Witch Arc, even AFTER Ciel has physically survived, Sebastian nearly loses him anyway because he backslides so dramatically into a PTSD episode that it nearly voids their contract
All of which is why by the time you get to the Blue Cult Arc, Sebastian is so genuinely afraid he might not be able to protect Ciel that the scent of blood from a single needle prick makes him do. This.
Tumblr media
And now, with bizarre dolls getting ever more advanced and better at hiding from Sebastian’s senses and the whole police force mobilized against them, I’m very ready for Sebastian in Brighton to be doing everything short of wrapping Ciel in 19th century bubble wrap. I’ll frankly be shocked if he lets Ciel out of his sight for more than five minutes.
But the thing is. The thing is. Narratively, there isn’t much further you can ratchet up the stakes for Sebastian (at least until you get to the moment of truth with the contract and eating his soul, which is a different conversation). Ciel being put in danger or hurt again isn’t going to do all that much to alter their relationship at this point. Sebastian is already about as whipped as the poor guy can get.
What would be a change, is Ciel nearly losing Sebastian.
There’s been—for obvious reasons—much less risk and fear on that front. There has been some build for it:
Red Butler Arc, encountering reapers, Ciel sees Sebastian fight an enemy who can actually hold their own against him for the first time (and while I don’t think this is confirmed, I suspect Grell’s chainsaw eating his shoulder is the first time Ciel sees him get injured for real (as opposed to allowing himself to get shot and playing dead just for the sake of being a dramatic bitch))
Curry Arc, Agni successfully fights Sebastian to a tie (which is why I’m VERY interested to see if Soma turns back up in the Brighton arc as well, feat. angry Kali powers)
[The murder arc is a fake out, because Ciel knows he’s fine the whole time]
On the Campania, Ciel sees him get very badly injured. This is the one and only time Ciel has real cause to fear for Sebastian’s safety, as such.
And since then, while Sebastian isn’t quite untouchable, he hasn’t really suffered any serious injury or physical danger to himself. There have been defeats or fights that didn’t end perfectly for him—such as the school arc fight—but Sebastian hasn’t been existentially threatened. Ciel, I think, still has pretty high confidence that worst case scenario, Sebastian can always just pick him up and make a run for it (indeed, part of the reason things got so bad on the Campania was because they were trapped on a boat). And even if Sebastian couldn’t save him, Ciel—to the extent it’s even occurred to him—doesn’t have a lot of reason to think he couldn’t save himself.
This is now the second time Ciel has lost everything—his title, his name, his home, his safety, his dignity and respect. The first time was worse, obviously, but he’s got to be feeling the similarities.
The first time, Sebastian pulled him out of his despair by offering him the power to escape.
Now, the second time, he at least still has Sebastian by his side. A Sebastian who is going to be laser-focused on protecting Ciel from all possible threats.
But what happens if Ciel thinks he might lose Sebastian too?
