pack it up ppl are saying “rest in power is for all activists who lost their lives in the pursuit to support their community…” Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Michael Brown, Brionna Taylor… and many others were not engaged in activism at the time of their deaths. they were everyday people who all were killed because of antiblack racism permeating our society. “rest in power” is for them, as antiblackness is why they were killed. if they had power while alive, their lives wouldn’t have been so disregarded and treated disposable by the very people who killed them

The US Treasury said the morality police were “responsible” for Amini’s death as it announced the sanctions “for abuse and violence against Iranian women and the violation of the rights of peaceful Iranian protesters”.

More things I don’t understand.
A woman should give up her life, her rights, her future, her hopes, her dreams etc.... for an unborn, possibly an unviable fetus, but once they’re delivered, she can’t expect to see them grow up and shouldn’t expect them to be safe in the places the government that legally required her to have them, tell her she should send them to be educated, socialized and learn to be a part of the society she was required to bring them into.  Once they are born they might just simply be fodder for gunfire from a mentally ill teenager who is “legally allowed” to buy high powered weapons, no questions asked, because it’s in the Constitution?
We really believe that there is any imaginable way the founders had this in mind? Why would be using documents written by men that allowed for this type of thing?  What kind of men were they, that these things were just acceptable to them?  I would refer to this quote..... "I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy." John Adams.
So were lead to believe parents should trust the state to make decisions for them about having children, where to educate those children, healthcare for said children etc... etc... etc... but the same state is not in any way responsible for those children and their well being, after they force the mothers to have them and drop them off at the institutions the state requires them to attend.
How does this work both ways?  The state is both absolute authority and able to impose punitive punishment on parents who don’t comply and at the same time absolutely not responsible for what happens to those children when parents comply and they not only are shot in school, but allowed to lay dying, bleeding out while the police force refuses to help them, because “the door is locked” implying that if I am at home and commit a crime in my house, I should just lock my door and they cant get in? (Brionna Taylor might still be alive if this was true)
As a parent I was required to buy a car seat, a bike helmet, not allowed to have a small child at home alone, expected to childproof my home and insure my childs safety at all times or they could be taken away and I can be punished, but when the same state that requires these things is responsible for my child, because they tell me I have to send my child to their institution, they are not responsible for their safety or in many cases, even the education they are sent their to receive?

Ya boi just got arrested for peacefully protesting past curfew!
There were over 500 people in the protest, and about 20 were caught and arrested. Multiple people had been shot with rubber bullets. I was held overnight and released this morning.
The cops were rude, accusatory, incompetent (it took them over 4 hours to get 10 people to the jail that was 10 minutes away), and kept defending trump and blaming peaceful protesters for giving a “platform for murderers to use.” I responded that actually, we’re protesting murderers, and that maybe he knows the murderer I’m thinking of? Maybe they went to police school together.

Y'all plllssss do NOT wear Che Guevara tees at BLM protests
First off it's ironic af bc the man was a commie. like come on the man despised capitalism and yet youre parading his face for $15 on Amazon
Most importantly the guy was notoriously racist and homophobic. Not to mention his countless tactical failures, ruthless aggression, and flimsy leadership. Che was used as a figure to propagate communism in Cuba, but that doesn't mean he was a good man, or the ideal revolutionary.
Che Guevara is just not your hero.

Question for today: Do you feel your viewpoint on racism has changed since the deaths of #GeorgeFloyd, #BrionnaTaylor, #RaychardBrooks, #AhmaudArbery and so many others? Did watching the cell phone videos and then feeling the pain of their loved ones afterwards open your eyes or cause a shift in your thinking? If so, how? Have you talked about it with your family and friends? What did you tell your children? Have you joined any protests or taken any other action to help bring about change? How important is it to you, and how important is it to our country?
I want to thank you for participating in the discussion here and in my prior posts about social injustice and racism in the USA. I am learning from all of you and your varied viewpoints. It heartens me to see the back-and-forth dialogue and the questions coming in from all angles of this issue.
Reading your posts, some of you have pointed out to me that you feel your voice is not being recognized. You feel that I have not left space in the conversation for you. That was not my intention, and I apologize. My bad.
Yes, all sides need to be heard. But first, I think it is important to listen to and digest the truths and stories coming from our BIPOC friends and fellow citizens. For too long they have not been given a forum to air their feelings in a way that would reach all of us, so that we could try to understand. Their reality can be very different from ours as white people. Now that cell phone video is being used to record it, we can’t look away from their truth. But we can acknowledge it and move forward to first create a bridge, and then create change together.
To that end, please join me in letting them speak, without attacking me or them for the message. Of course you are welcome to present your viewpoints too in a respectful manner, your input is vital. Please leave politics out of it though. This is not Republican versus Democrat. It’s about being human, and it is way overdue.
This is not a gotcha session on "but what about the looters" or "all police are not bad". There are always bad people in every group, career, or demographic that take advantage of situations and ruin it for others. And hopefully justice will prevail - equally for all of them. But we need to talk about the norm, the everyday folks and the lives we all lead just trying to get by, wanting a safe place for our kids.
That's my request for this dialogue. Hopefully we can put blame and anger aside and listen to each other with an open mind and a loving heart. The goal is to help each other understand and find solutions. Sharing our realities, without blame or flinging mud, is the only way to do that. I think we will learn that we are way more alike than different. We all bleed red, we all have dreams for our children, and we all want peace and love in our lives.
Please let’s help each other make those dreams a reality, no matter what color our skins are. Thank you ahead of time for helping me learn. I honor you and your participation.
God bless. xo

i’m saying this as an asian myself so like idk but the asian community getting outraged that people are focusing on blm instead of asian heritage month (+ pacific islander heritage month, but i’m not part of that demographic) are so fucking insensitive like..black people don’t choose to be murdered on certain days y’all are so lame wanting people to tweet out something about how much they love asians or whatever just because you liked a photo with mlk in it on mlk day and you watched the malcolm x documentary during black history month,,also changing your pfp to the black power fist but then putting like a yellow peace sign or whatever to ~spread awareness~ about our month is so fucking ignorant black people are DYING and you’re worried about your profile picture not fully representing/being about you?? until y’all can start calling out antiblackness in whichever asian culture that you’re part of and stop using aave for the fun of it and quit blaming black people for the consequences of the model minority myth (like affirmative action) you don’t get to complain

The repeated demand and push to be "financially recompensed" in this situation is really off-putting. This has nothing to do with money. Activism against princesshamlet has nothing to do with money.
If the people protesting for Brionna Taylor and George Flord demanded money there'd be absolute uproar. Exposing princesshamlet and coming together to expose and correct her actions is a duty of morality and correct justice, not something people should then guilt others into paying them for by saying "oh I read it and now I'm traumatised" and "I did the right thing so pay me for it".
It's honestly kinda sickening and really turns me off wanting to interact with other authors of color. Even as a mixed person I couldn't imagine doing the right thing then constantly pushing for people to PAY me for it. Especially with all the guilt tripping. Profiting off trauma is despicable.

Ukrainian superstar Alina Iagupova led Fenerbahce to a Turkish SuperLeague Championship last year. She also won the EuroLeague regular season MVP two years in a row in 2020 and 2021. She's led the Euroleague in scoring two seasons in a row, too. She's the first non-American player to win the scoring title since Penny Taylor in 2010-2011. And she's the first European player to do it since Gordana Grubin in 2003-2004. This is the kind of company she's in as a EuroLeague scoring champion...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only 5 women have ever won multiple EuroLeague scoring titles. Razija Mujanović, Clarissa Davis, Katie Douglas, Diana Taurasi, and Alina Iagupova. Mujanovic was a 6'8" center. But the other four scoring champions have quite a bit in common. They're all big mean guards. And Alina, at 6'1" with what looks like 190 lbs of muscle... she's definitely the biggest. And if you think all that size makes her slow, think again.

This year, Fenerbahce has put together a SuperTeam. They're doing everything they can to challenge UMMC. Here's how well each competitive roster is represented in the top 15 Euroleague stats.
Avenida 2 scorers: Kahleah Copper 1st, Katie Lou Samuelson 14th 1 assister: Sylvia Dominguez 13th 1 blocker: Bella Alarie 14th Top 15 total: 4 | Top 3 total: 1
Dynamo Kursk 2 scorers: Natasha Howard 4th, Arike Ogunbowale 14th 1 rebounder: Natasha Howard 1st 2 thieves: Eva Lisec 5th, Epiphanny Prince 9th Top 15 total: 5 | Top 3 total: 1
UMMC 2 scorers: Jonquel Jones 8th, Allie Quigley 13th 2 rebounders: Jonquel Jones 6th, Emma Meesseman 15th 2 assisters: Alex Bentley 10th, Alba Torrens 12th 2 blockers: Jonquel Jones 7th, Maria Vadeeva 8th Top 15 total: 8 | Top 3 total: 0
USK Praha 2 scorers: Brionna Jones 2nd, Maria Conde 7th 2 rebounders: Alyssa Thomas 4th, Brionna Jones 12th 2 assisters: Alyssa Thomas 2nd, Teja Oblak 7th 1 blocker: Dragana Stankovic 2nd 2 thieves: Alyssa Thomas 7th, Brionna Jones 11th Top 15 total: 9 | Top 3 total: 3
Fenerbahce 3 scorers: Kayla McBride 3rd, Alina Iagupova 11th, Satou Sabally 14th 2 rebounders: Elizabeth Williams 5th, Satou Sabally 10th 2 assisters: Alina Iagupova 3rd, Olcay Cakir 5th 2 blockers: Elizabeth Williams 1st, Satou Sabally 13th 2 thieves: Alina Iagupova 15th, Elizabeth Williams 15th Top 15 total: 11 | Top 3 total: 3
With so many stars on the team, Alina doesn't need to carry the scoring burden this season. She's averaging 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. She's more than a scoring machine. She's an incredible facilitator as well. She can carry a team when she needs to but she loves to set up her teammates.
Don't be fooled by UMMC looking like a mid-level team here. They are a SuperTeam. They're such a SuperTeam that each superstar does a fraction of what they'd do on a regular team. But when the EuroLeague final four comes around, the superstars go all out and cut through everyone.
But UMMC, despite all that Russian money and all those superstars, is not a perfect system. And when UMMC faces Fenerbahce in the Euroleague final, Fenerbahce will expose that imperfection. UMMC might have Russian money, but Fenerbahce has Ukrainian legend Alina Iagupova.
I'd love to see Alina play in the WNBA. But the LA Sparks have her WNBA rights. And that's terrible.
The Sparks are the WNBA team with the worst management in the league. They also design their roster around a certain "image." And Alina does not fit that image at all. She came to Sparks training camp in 2019 which happened to be a disaster year for that disaster team. The coach, the manager, and the star player Candace Parker were all at war with each other. Alina went home because she wasn't getting payed enough to put up with that bullshit. She didn't complete her contract. So now, if she wants to play in the WNBA, she has to negotiate with the LA Sparks. Awful.
There's actually a number of international players in the same position as Alina. The WNBA is not an attractive league for foreign players to play in. Until the WNBA fixes that, it won't be the league with all the best players, just the best Americans.
