Hey, Hey! I wanted to draw some stuff for your fic, but I had a question. Do you have more details on how Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael look? I know Gabriel has some fem-characteristics and Michael seems to be the largest of the angels. No pressure tho!

Okok, I’ve actually had someone ask me about their appearances before so I’ll just post my response to them to give you a guideline, and if you had anymore questions just let me know duckling. The format of this is: there will be a number w/ a question they asked, and below that I answer it. (The questions came from @the-stress-express if you wanna check out their WIP)

Anyway, here u are:

1. Are Micheal, Gabriel, and Raphael kind of like copy-paste versions of Lucifer? Like, do they have Lucifer’s red cheek spots? Do they all have white ass skin like Lucifer?

- I imagine they all have white skin, and that Rals has the cheek spots, but Micheal and Gabriel do not. They’re kinds copy and pasted, but with a bit of variation in body structure (Rals being more rounded, Micheal a tad bit more square). And also while I’m here, I’ll say that Raphael is a little bit taller than Luci (probably just under Charlie’s height) and that Gabriel and Micheal are the same height, and quite a bit taller than their two brothers.

2. What kind of hairstyles, textures, and hair colours do they have? I’ll probably take some creative liberty, so don’t feel too pressured for detailed explanations, but I want to hear your designs so I can make it accurate to your vision. Also, I’ve heard theories that Micheal’s hair is a lot like Lucifer’s but idk if you are having that there.

Okay, we’ll go through this character by character.

Micheal - Same blondness as Lucifer, but perhaps a little shorter. Maybe a little fluffier at the top? Idk. No real big picture ideas.

Gabriel - Long, silky, straight dark brown hair. It comes down to about his mid-back/chest area, and it’s all like flowy and elegant and pretty well maintained. Shiny probably too

Raphael - Pretty much a mix between the others. Kinda like Lucifer’s style, but curlier, and with a similar brown hue to Gabriel’s (tho a little bit lighter). Again, no real preference other than that, go wild!

3. Eye colour. I remember you stated that Micheal has gold eyes, but what about Gabriel and Raphael? I feel like you mentioned it at some point but I forgot.

I honestly can’t remember what I said either, but I’ve been picturing Raphael with green eyes, and Gabriel with something more greyish-blue hued? I think. Idk if that reflects in what I’ve written but that’s what my brain had decided they look like now.

4. Did you have specific designs for the 3 angels’ robes? Or does it matter what they look like? If it doesn’t matter to you I’ll just let creativity take over there.

Not really. Just that Micheal’s are white/gold, Gabriel’s are a pretty pale blue, and Raphy’s are a pale, rich green (with the green being more on the blue side than the yellow). I struggle w/ outfits so I usually just don’t put much thought into them.

5. I will obviously include Raphael’s beautiful hummingbird wings. So do Micheal and Gabriel have specific wing styles? And furthermore, we know Lucifer had 6 wings bc he’s a former seraphim. I forget but, in this fic, are his brothers seraphims too? I feel dumb for asking but whatever lmao.

Yeah, they def all have six wings. I imagine Micheal’s looking more eagle-like, and… idk about Gabriel. It might be cool if he had more of a “pigeon-y” shape to them as a fun little correlation to his messenger status, but idrc. Do what you think looks best

what would chuuyas guitar look like...

ok so this actually sent me on a guitar finding rampage and I went and found a ton and also came up with a whole scenario on how he ended up buying said guitar so *ahem* let me set the scene. (note- I haven't read stormbringer yet and some details based on when are a little iffy)

Chuuya has recently joined the mafia and has started making more money than he knows what to do with. He's driving himself crazy trying to find something to distract himself with.

He's walking around and finds a guitar store and wanders in, not really planning on buying anything yk? And then he realizes, damn these look cool! (not sure what age, but def still young, late teens maybe? but he suddenly REALLY wants one)

some of the things I focused on were price and look. As amazing sounding as Epiphones (my personal favorite in both look and sound, which is why I have one) are, they're not as popular a brand and only ever a couple hundred USD (another reason I liked them)

another thing is, he is 100% no doubt about it an electric guy. He'd glance at some of the acoustics, but electrics come in so much more variation, and you can make them sound so many different ways than you can with an acoustic. (also, speaking as a small person here, it can be really hard for shorter people to play acoustics because of the huge bodies. Unless you've got perfect posture and a whole lot of patience, they really dig into your skin. not to mention electrics are typically way easier to handle/play, and he has no clue how to play these things, he just knows he wants it to sound and look cool)

I personally think he would be bored with the classical fender shape, and would just walk right past any of them to cooler and more interesting guitars. here's a list of the ones I found (including model and price) that are pretty big guitar brands: (Fender, Gibson, etc)

I think the colors and patterns on the fenders might intrigue him, but the shapes on the Gibsons are wayyy more interesting.

Gibsons also have a history of being easier to care for, at least initially after buying (learned this in a conversation with a guitar mechanic when I bought mine, where he showed me some guitar care stuff and how to set it up/restring it) and have a nicer sound imo.

I was also interested in a Japanese brand called Killer. I'm not sure the full story, but I think a guy from a band made his own line of guitars and is selling them, and they looked pretty decent. Price was also getting higher up there, too. (listed in ¥, I converted them to USD)

Before I get into the final option I had in mind, I'd like to talk about why no "flying v" shaped guitars are on this list. For one, I personally find them unappealing. They didn't call out to me the way these other ones did, and also can be difficult to manage. He still needs to learn to play, so I thought it would be best to get him a manageable guitar first before he goes for something flasher like a flying v if he wants. There are plenty of other interesting shapes and sounds out there, so I chose to look for those instead.

Now for the final guitar I found that I like for Chuuya. It's also a Japanese brand, that seems to be preferred by rock/metal bands (not sure on specific genres). As I was scrolling through the models, I found this one. It's sleek, with a really cool shape. Ibanez are apparently pretty high quality. The specific model was "originally developed with metal and nothing but metal in mind" (from the webpage on the model here)

Or maybe a worker of the Aquarium. But yeah, he's basically there frequently so fluff slowly ensues. // I might do the same idea with the roles reversed, as in a Orca mer batcher and a female human, haven't decided yet either.

C) A variation of this last two ideas is mixing them up together, and in the setting of an Aquarium, having two different enclosures of captured sea creatures; in one mermaid! female in another one batcher orca/siren mer // and then they are both switched to a bigger enclosure where they're both placed together in (perhaps humans wants to study how both of their species react to each other, perhaps they plan to see if they can work together for future human show, perhaps they want them to breed to have a new crossed species, who knows!) // it being a wary strangers to lovers kind of thing.

I'm sure if I keep thinking I will get more mer ideas lmao, I just love them. Also, actually writing this ideas down in a rough shape like this brought excitement to properly write them already, so I might jump into this sooner than expected lol. I will def write all of this stories at some point. Def not for May though!

jae's early memories are that of his nightmares, it's tucked in the back of his brain - rotting and cobwebbed. what he tells people are the sunny days and joy filled summer camps he joined after settling in with his new family. beaches, family trips he went to. jae and his older brother playing sports together, discovering tricks and who's better at what. he's very grateful to them, so much so that he thinks/feels he owes his life to his found family. this also enables his need/want to help other anomalies.

tracing back to jae feeling very grateful to his family, he's had incidents of pushing himself to limits as a kid in order to prove that his adoptive parents did not make a mistake of choosing him - even when his parents have never claimed to have wanted anything from jae, just that he's safe at all times and happy. this is what he's trying to unlearn, the dire need to excel in ways that his body cannot fully commit to. this too comes from his past, not the fear of abandonment, but to be put in a situation where jae has to give up something so precious to him - he doesn't want a repeat of his own history, not again and not to others.

however, due to his human environment upbringing, jae did not have much knowledge of his powers. instead, he relied upon books and materials at hand. his biological parents did not serve that purpose as well, or at least did not have the time/resources/unable to due to the fact that they were prohibited to do so. his enrollment to sua marks as jae's discovery of his abilities, he's learned quite a huge in comparison to what he knew (which is next to nothing). jae has attended t4d's workshops himself before joining the team, which solidifies his experience/candidacy even more.

crystal manipulation anomaly

he can conjure up crystals from thin air/the ground. smaller bits and pieces are the easiest, he can even do them with his eyes closed. bigger, multiple at a time might be difficult at the moment. jae needs the utmost focus and determination to create massive shards, but it will exhaust him in the end.

these crystals are shaped like broken/chipped iceberg pieces. jae can manipulate the size and weight, depending on his state and concentration. on really good days, he can make weapons, shields and body armor out of them. on bad days, especially when his mental is tanking out, the shards would manifest out of his skin that it cuts (bleeds). its like when a pokemon move hits the user back, legit. jae takes the damage instead.

crystal sealing is a way to freeze a matter/being in time. jae can seal small creatures like insects, small birds and anything that is smaller than a medium sized dog (smaller than a corgi, fr). when surprised, he might do it accidentally and who's to say jae knows how to undo it (he's working on that).

it doesn't really serve much purpose outside of combat or transportation, so jae doesn't feel the need to use his powers. his crystals are easily breakable by repeated heavy force or from a certain sound frequency. under heat, it will likely melt after some time.

brief personality

he's a goofball, a silly boy who likes to make his friends laugh. he doesn't joke about global crisis, but jae is chill most of the time. just because he's a straight A student does not mean he cannot get into trouble, because he has LMFAO. he's outgoing, really jumpy and excited around close friends. jae might be a bit shy at first, the awkward laughs and smiles but give him two more meets, he'll open up. jae can definitely be an enabler but don't trust him to be a getaway driver/anything of sort. he's very studious and athletic aka the only time you'll find him in dorms is when he's asleep. jae is relatively busy due to his classes and t4d events so he's not ignoring anyone. also why he's not pursuing any romantic interests.

depends on the spot. for example, squeezes to his hips are more effective! while gentle skittering gets him all giggly and squeaky, if you want a rly good reaction out of him, squeezes are the way to go. generally gentle scribbles work better on spots like his tummy, sides, ribs, and feet.

he likes back tickles…. even though he’s so ticklish he can’t sit still. they’re nice, but his back is covered with lil sweet spots and if you even just brush over one he will die. other than that he likes it…. even if he tries to deny it through his giggles >:)c

noctis is a little brat, but it’s easy to tickle that brattiness out of him. and he knows this, and definitely uses it to his advantage. noctis doesn’t get lee moods as often as, say, prompto, but he does have them. and his way of getting tickles is by acting extra bratty. although sometimes it backfires, specifically with ignis. because ignis knows he likes it, and often won’t do anything until he asks.

does teasing affect them?

noctis is def affected by teasing, for sure. i mean, reducing the stubborn prince to childish giggling is enough to embarrass him, but teasing him on top of that? his ears will turn red. he will definitely deny the fact that he’s cute and ticklish if you tease him about it (in which you can then tickle him into admitting it haha)

Terra wasn’t sure what to make of Braham at first, asides from wondering if he was the one her Soul Mark matched. He was a spitfire, enthusiastic and loyal and loud, and honestly he grew on her almost immediately, since he was just so different.

Braham thought Terra was a gift from the Spirits, so to speak - since she was the only person willing to help him with the crisis in Cragstead. He was a bit intimidated, honestly - she can come off as aloof and very commanding when she has to, but he was also drawn to the Sylvari’s easy charm.

4. Who felt romantic feelings first?

Mmmmmm, I think Terra. It’s been a while since I wrote about this point in their story, but I’m pretty sure she was the first one getting the major butterflies!

6. What’s their relationship with each other’s families?

Terra and Eir were close friends, and Eir very much approves of she and Braham being together (even tho Eir sadly passed before they actually got together, she’s def still on the up and up). Terra is also on good terms with Braham’s ‘adoptive’ parents in Cragstead, and they’ve been back to visit several times.

Braham and Caithe are still a bit weary of each other, and he and Canach jibe at each other constantly - he hasn’t really met the Pale Tree, asides from when she was attacked. But Dragon’s Watch is basically Terra’s family, so overall, they’re good!

8. Who gets jealous easier?

I think Braham, but honestly at this point I don’t think either of them?

4. How often do they cuddle/engage in PDA?

Constant cuddling, and especially once Icebrood hits, a decent amount of PDA in the form of hand-holding and occasionally hugs. Full on make-outs are usually reserved for private spaces.

I think I’ve said a variation of this before, but honestly they just... like doing anything together? Braham enjoys ‘helping’ Terra bake, and she has fun helping him train with his bow - the simple act of being together is what makes it fun.

Oh, that sucks, Space. Of course I an give you some fluff- can’t help you with intruloceit, I’m afraid- I don’t work with Remus or any variation of intrulogical- but LoRoMo I def can do!

They have a unique relationship in a lot of different ways, the main one being the odd match up that is Roman and Patton (who’s personalities naturally compliment each other very well) + Logan (who’s much more logical and rule-orientated than the two fireballs that are his boyfriends)

Royality was together first because of this

Logan got pulled into their orbit precisely because of his almost completely contrasting-to-theirs personality

He helps ground them, keep them tethered to reality even when they’d rather not be

He can appreciate the more technical aspects of Roman’s craft and dramas while still pointing out their logical flaws or when they get to be too much; he’s good at arguing Roman away from bad ideas without hurting anyone’s feelings; he can be just as passionate as Roman but in a different way- ensuring neither of them go to far off in their passions while still cultivating them

To Patton, Logan- in theory- is even worse off to bond with, but their opposites work well to prove that they attract: Patton’s sugary sweetness can ease up and play well to Logan’s general hard bitterness, their twin willingness to listen to others ramble are perfect for each other (both for Logan listening to Patton’s many rambles and Patton happy to listen to Logan’s few but long-winded rants), their shared general geekiness a trait they can bond over even if their areas of interests are solely separate

So despite how impossible it may seem at a glance, the three of them get along rather brilliantly

Roman and Patton like to go be horribly social, enjoying parties and strolls through the town greeting everyone they see and stops at ice cream palours and all the like

Patton and Logan are more quiet, homeward bound, spending their time baking and/or cooking together, watching movies of many genres together, reading together (aka Logan reading to an intently listening Patton), cuddling together, and so forth

Roman and Logan are a mix between-they go out a lot, but they’re not very social. They like to go to plays and museums, lectures that Logan has interest in, stroll through private gardens, etc

And together, their activities are a range- restaurant dinners before evening strolls and ice cream stops, picnics in the park, building pillowforts at home to watch marathons in, the works

And finally, the softer things... the three of them dancing together in their kitchen in early mornings and late nights... all of them snuggled up against each other at night in their shared bed... cuddle piles on the couch... soft kisses happily exchanged by all against forehead and chin and back of hand... all that good stuff...

I drew a potential version of manakete!Morgan’s dragon form, based half on Grima and half on...well, Fa, from Fire Emblem: Sword of Seals. Fa’s dragon form is shaped like an feathery egg and Grima is an armored dragon with six limbs that basically all amount to feathery wings stapled onto a lizard the size of a mountain.

I cannot be the only person who, upon realizing that Tiki’s dragon form was a recolored Nowi and was disappointed. Nah being that way made sense, but Tiki didn’t. Earlier Fire Emblem games had a lot more variation in the dragon designs, even if some of them were...meh. And that’s one of several limitations that basically amount to a lack of space.

I suppose it could also be the Heroes version of Tiki, but that manakete design wasn’t used as well as I would’ve hoped. (Also, I prefer quadrupedal dragon designs.)

So I went Three Houses and basically made something up. I have no doubt Sothis’s dragon form looked nothing like the Immaculate One or the Immovable or the Wind Caller back in the day when she still used one, since none of them look like each other despite being siblings. More design mode shenanigans for me!

Morgan’s breath weapon is a mix of fire and dark magic, and her teeth are derived from Grima’s horrible crocodile mouth. Unlike Grima, her skull-plate is actually a part of her head and not a mask hiding a nightmarish human-like face. Does have six actual eyes, though.

Morgan’s midair tactics include twisting back along her own length, lashing out with her claws, beating airborne rivals to the ground by attacking their wings, and setting bits of landscape on fire. As a descendant of a divine dragon, gravity tends to look the other way during aerial maneuvers. She also, unfortunately for her father’s stress levels, has a habit of transforming back into her human form in midair to change altitude rapidly. That she transforms again before she risks crashing is the only reason Robin survived her childhood.

Proportion-wise, Morgan’s only about the size of a Fódlan wyvern, since she’s still pretty young and Nah is depicted as about that big in Awakening. As the only other half-manakete running around, she’s a useful comparison.

Yes, that means Morgan could only really carry two passengers and I’m sure that won’t be plot-relevant ever.

Personal skill: Solidarity. Critical rate/evade +10 to adjacent allies. Morgan’s strengths: Sword/Reason/Flying. Morgan’s weaknesses: Heavy Armor. Budding Talent: Authority. Growth %: 95(HP)/58(Str)/43(Mag)/58(Dex)/60(Spd)/63(Lck)/46(Def)/43(Res)

(Morgan’s growth rates here are based on her canonical growth rates in the Manakete class, if Tiki’s her mother and her dad’s asset is Speed and his flaw is HP. There are only a few classes that use armor in Awakening, and a dodge-tank Robin is unlikely to spend much time as anything related to the Knight class, hence the issue with Heavy Armor. Meanwhile, Tiki’s reclass options are Mage and Wyvern Rider, but she starts with E in all relevant weapon ranks and I figured Morgan would mostly take after her dad and aunt.)

(Funnily enough, Robin’s weakness being HP puts him pretty firmly in line with Three Houses characters like Lysithea, who’ve been screwed with via dark magic. He also canonically has white hair, so...)

Well Elzhi went above and beyond in 2011 and chose to cover one of the best Hip-Hop collections at any point composed - Nas' 1994 ageless exemplary, Illmatic - with his collection ELmatic. He doesn't exactly better the first, however regularly remains consistent with its rhyming pentameter, which is truly great when you're attempting to communicate your own musings to the audience in an engaging manner. His verses are strong all through the collection and his tone and phrasing inhales natural air into the instrumentals. Detroit State of Mind is an extraordinary model, carrying that Detroit vibe to a New York great.

2. Blemish - Single (2010)/Lil Wayne's Single

Blemish is a Dutch Soul/RnB artist we've been following for some time now. In 2010 he began an undertaking called Mar Variations, which has him re-interpretting his main tunes in a special manner. Blemish's form of this Lil Wayne track is nearly in exactly the same words, he essentially adds an absurdly smooth song to some severely misogynist verses. A fine mix.

1. Flying Lotus - Fall in Love (2009)/Slum Village/J Dilla's Fall in Love

My number 1 must be Flying Lotus' instrumental adjust of basically my preferred Hip-Hop track ever. The melody is really a tribute to the late extraordinary J Dilla, who died in 2006 from uncommon blood malady TTP. The adjust is flooding with a despairing that is significantly increasingly unobtrusive in the first, which makes it substantially more one of a kind. FlyLo's trademark side-chain pressure and background noise cause the track to inhale, suspending this tribute to flawlessness. Totally splendid.

The Movie Maestro’s Reviews: Dances with Wolves (1990) Extended Edition

Before this film was released, Kevin Costner was mocked mercilessly for his ‘foolhardy’ ambition in making it; embarking on a epic, expansive genre picture in a genre that hadn’t produced a success in decades, coupled with the cost overruns it incurred, it seemed Costner’s passion project would be relegated to failure, like Heaven’s Gate before it. Thank whatever god exists that it wasn’t, because Dances with Wolves marks a high point in western cinema, and still stands a great piece of representative drama.

Hollywood has long flirted with the sub-genre known as the “going native” story--that of a white man abandoning his privileged way of life and identity in favor of a simpler, more “wholesome” native culture. It is an old tradition in fiction, dating back at least to Conrad and Burroughs with Heart of Darkness, Tarzan, and John Carter of Mars. The application of this trope has gone through many variations and tones, from the terrifying madness of Colonel Kurtz to the messianic rise of Paul Atreides, and to the matter of fact in the story of Lawrence of Arabia. Here, however, in Dances with Wolves, it seems to have been used, for the first time, in service of enlightening the audience to a bygone era, of a culture wrongly robbed of life long ago by the very nation the film was produced in.

Beginning in the hell of the Civil War, DWW quickly introduces us to John Dunbar (Kevin Costner), a newly-decorated Lieutenant who chooses a duty at Fort Sedgewick, deep in the Frontier of the Dakotas. Wanting to see the frontier “before it’s gone,” Dunbar finds the fort mysteriously abandoned, and after arduously repairing it, settles in for a long, lonely detail...until he meets his neighbors, the Lakota Sioux. Their medicine man, Kicking Bird (Graham Greene), is eager to establish a diplomatic friendship with Dunbar, as the sacred buffalo that is their food source is dwindling and more and more white settlers appear every day. He figures Dunbar can at least help clarify why their situation i becoming more and more dire, and Dunbar himself is receptive to their offerings of friendship. But as this odd pairing plays out over the course of a year, both Dunbar and the Sioux tribe will find their lives enriched in ways they could never have imagined.

I don’t like to use the word “wholesome,” as to me it denotes a conservative image of righteousness that I know doesn’t actually exist, but if I were pressed to describe this film in one word, it would have to be that. DWW is a piece that warms the heart without too much sentimentality, without a Hallmark-Channel sense of sap. It doesn’t portray Dunbar as being more “Indian than Indians,” as The Last Samurai unfortunately fell into being, nor does it have to rely on the memory of stories before it to simply function narratively, like Avatar did. Costner’s film is visually and narratively beautiful and epic, and it wears its heart on its sleeve in every good sense of the phrase. DWW is a western with a bleeding heart, and that is a very good thing.

It accomplishes this through its focus on the Sioux, and with how honestly they are portrayed. For too long in American fictional history, even continuing to this day, native Americans are cast in a wholly one-dimensional light, if they are even the major focus of a story at all; DWW sets out to breathe life into the great horse culture of the plains like never seen before, utilizing the expertise of actual Sioux descendants to help craft accurate costume and set designs, and through a deft and skillful screenplay by Michael Blake (who adapted his own novel), was able to present these characters as real people, prone to the same prejudices, shortcomings, eccentricities, and struggles with daily life as any of us moviegoers. One may not think them that important, but any scene with Graham Greene’s Kicking Bird chafing at being the last to find out about something in the village or accidentally laying down onto a children’s toy tickle my soul: in these little moments, the Sioux return to the land of the living like they never have in film, before or since.

In the States, only the Extended Edition is available in hi-def, so I was forced to use this to review the film for the first time. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be Costner’s preferred version of the film, and I’m inclined to agree. The theatrical cut was already a lengthy three-hours-plus; this cut extends that to a whopping four hours, and much of the extra 55 minutes is simply unnecessary. I found myself incredibly perturbed at the early Fort Sedgewick scenes that reveal what happened to the men there, as the mystery of the Fort is, in the end, minor and of no consequence to the plot of the film. In reality, I feel only two scenes, one concerning Mary McDonnell’s Stands with a Fist character, to be worthy additions, and the rest, well, are empty filler. Whether I try to acquire the theatrical cut through importing or by other means, I will say more about the film in that review.

For now, it’s safe to say that Dances with Wolves is one of my cinematic loves. It’s one of the few going native stories to get the concept right with no oppressive posturing, and its a beautiful film, both visually and thematically, with performances that deserved the nominations they received. I’m very happy to have grown up watching it, and it remains on my list of great films I hope to share with the next generation.
