There are times in which Andrew thinks he could potentially enjoy Exy. This is one of those times. The tension in the stadium is palpable — from the actual court, to the bench, to the very last corner seat of the packed room that no one ever wants to sit in. The clock is ticking, and it all comes down to these last few minutes.

It’s intense. It’s almost, he’d dare say, fun.

Andrew could potentially enjoy Exy. Except that Wymack is shouting some bullshit at him he can’t actually hear, his legs are fucking killing him, he is literally dripping sweat, his chest hurts behind the padding where he got hit with a ball in the first half, and he needs to focus on not letting any goals in while Neil and Kevin are just prancing around, smiling behind their helmets, knocking their heads together in as close a forehead touch they can get. He wants to wring their necks.

Theoretically, he could enjoy Exy. He doesn’t though. And he needs Neil and Kevin to stop being all cute, and to carry the shitty ball across the court and slam it into the other team’s goal so Andrew can relax and they can all shower and go home as soon as the clock reaches zero.

The clock marks one minute and a half to go. Andrew widens his stance as the other team makes it up the court to his side, pushing through Aaron and Matt’s line with ease. Andrew sends the ball back across the court to Neil, whose face crinkles with joy.

The clock marks one minute to go. A bead of sweat runs down his thigh, tickling the back of his knee as it crosses the patch of bare leg between his compression shorts and socks. Andrew shakes his leg but it doesn’t make the tickling any better.

The clock marks thirty seconds to go. The sweat is making Andrew’s head itch and he cannot wait to take the helmet off and finally run his hands through his hair. The other team have managed to get the ball after a failed goal attempt on Neil’s part.

Twenty seconds. Wymack is still shouting. Andrew reckons it’s probably best if no one hears what he is saying at this point. Neil stickchecks the other team’s offensive dealer and Andrew can hear Kevin shouting at him — the timbre and cadence of his shouting all Wymack’s.

Ten seconds. Neil gains possession of the ball and no punches are thrown, though Andrew is pretty sure it’s a close call. Neil carries it for nine steps before passing it to Kevin.

Five seconds. Kevin throws the ball against the wall on his side of the court, left-handed and all. He’s yards too far from the target, but he lets it rebound and catches it only four steps ahead. He’s still way too far, but it throws it in anyway. There are not enough seconds on the clock. There is no way that should go in. And yet — the goal across from the Foxes’ lights up. That beautiful motherfucker.

When the clock hits zero, Matt is already gathering Aaron and Dan under one arm and taking his helmet off.

Andrew takes his own helmet off, and finally runs his hands through his disgusting hair, rubbing at the nape of his neck where it aches the most. The relief is instantaneous and Andrew sighs, and drops to a squat, letting his stick slide all the way to the floor next to him. He lifts his eyes, searching for the two familiar shapes at half-court.

In a move Andrew has witnessed hundreds of times, Neil drops his stick to the side and runs up to Kevin at full speed, unbuckling his helmet as he does. His helmet falls to the floor next to Kevin’s just as Neil launches himself up, wrapping his legs around Kevin’s waist.

The noise in the court is way too loud for Andrew to make anything out, not that he needs to. He’s seen this too many times before. On court, during a match, even during practice. He’s seen it back in the dorm, when a game is on tv and he is trying his best to eat his cereal in peace — which is impossible with Neil literally jumping over him on the sofa to reach Kevin.

Kevin and Neil are yelling in each other’s faces, somewhere between laughing and crying. Kevin holds Neil by his thighs and lifts him higher on his frame and Neil just laughs and laughs and laughs.

Andrew can’t hear it but he can lipread well enough to know what Neil keeps repeating.

You did it.

There are times in which Andrew thinks he could potentially enjoy Exy. This is one of those times.

iCarly AU [WIP] — Literally just a silly AU that's an excuse for Andrew to beat people with a butter sock and have an obvious crush on Neil. (+fic tag)

Neil enters the marathon along with many other characters, who all have their own motivations. This will not be a happy AU and will feature MANY character deaths (sorry. kinda). Most of this has been planned out.

12 Minutes AU [WIP] — Andrew gets stuck in a short loop. He repeatedly tries to stop Nathan's people from breaking into their home disguised as cops to kill him and Neil. With each loop, he learns more secrets and just how much of a liar Neil can be.

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY BAYBEE

hi!!!!! hello!!!! ty for the tag today @artsyunderstudy! In a shocking turn of events, I have things to share! Thank you sooo much for all the tags in sss/wipsday the last few weeks, for whatever reason I got into a mental rut about sharing wip progress and sort of shut off for a bit. My bad! Anyway, I'm sharing six sentences from the upcoming chapter of my COBB, The Boy and the Summoned (M, 25k so far), and also from an AFTG fic that I had an idea for and spat 1500 words out at 3am. When the inspiration strikes, it strikes lmao.

Baz

Kissing Simon Snow is diving headfirst into the sun and revelling in the burn. He’s lighting me up, filling my chest with warmth. It’s gentle at first, the brush of his mouth against mine. He keeps his thumbs on my cheeks, stroking back and forth, and it’s so comforting I could cry (again). I don’t want to cry now, though. I want to soak this in. I want all of Simon’s light inside me, bursting at the seams of my skin.

and some andreil/implied future kandreil! I've been having thoughts about crushes and monogamous relationships and attraction and unpacking some of the ideas I was raised with about how those things overlap (yay religious trauma!) and also... I'm a sucker for Kevneil and Kandreil haha.

Kevin shoves Neil again, this time into the elevator. It’s quiet as they descend to the ground floor and make their way out to the Mas, and Neil likes it. The company, the familiarity, the routine. For a moment, his mind is quiet, too.

Only a moment.

Kevin jogs around to the back door and yanks it open. Neil watches the movement, cataloging it absently: the toned flex of Kevin’s lithe calves, the taut bounce of his ass, the dimple in his cheek as he tries to hide a smile when Nicky whines about being relegated to the middle seat and receives an elbow to the ribs from Aaron, who’s sick of ‘being piggy in the middle just because he’s the shortest thank you very much’. Neil’s chest is tight and warm, and he can’t help smiling after Kevin— which is precisely when he locks eyes with Andrew through the front windscreen. Andrew narrows his eyes and mouths, ‘staring’, and Neil scowls against the flush creeping over his cheeks.

(these are all AFTG fics, sorry HP pals) [redacted aftg mixtape exchange fic] - can’t say much except that my recipient chose an amazing song and a brilliant pairing and that the mods are the best and the stars aligned and fate was on my side when i was given this prompt and i’m really excited to finish it and for it to be out in the world

the next three are actually a series of pwp fics set in the same universe where we have established kandreil but i’m giving them all one-on-one time (therefore, three fics)!! i’m very excited about it! this series features: trans neil, professional athlete shenanigans, kevin being a freak, neil being a horny little shit, andrew being his little weirdo self who plays exy because there's nothing better to do but actually is the epitome of a malewife. lots of porn with a side of domesticity, just the way i like it stand in awe of him - the kevneil fic, which yes is titled after a psalm do not dare @ me lol this one is a very soft rapid escalation of morning glory snuggles and domestic chats in which kevin and neil are in bed and start talking about andrew and at first it's like "oh he's so cute when he's grumpy" and suddenly it's like "and that thing he does with his tongue" and they just get each other off thinking about how much they love their bf!!!! like good for them tbh

clinging to you - kandrew!!!! size difference!!!!! 🥵🥵 like there is one vertical foot between those two bastards and you think i'm not gonna make it a thing? i'm gonna make it a thing. i actually have a good chunk of this one written already, it has taken over my brain. just kevin being "ah andrew is so Large and Beefy and Good at Exy" (*cough cough* exy kink *cough cough* competence kink) but then suddenly they're in bed and he realises he can cover ALL of andrew with HIS body and he's like "oh it turns out he's smol but that's also hot?" immediate fireworks in the ol' brain box!!!!

waiting, wanting - ah. the andreil with that one premise that has been done a gazillion times across every random on earth but idc because i want it. neil is horny, andrew is asleep, kevin is across the world and in the end andrew and neil end up fucking with kevin on the phone listening in. neil gets fingered within an inch of his life and andrew gets mocked for his bad french accent and it’s all very delightful, if i say so myself

3 biggest improvements

oh yay tooting my own horn, my favourite activity lmao cutting back - i started this year with a very clear goal of doing No Fests. i did nearly fail at this and i DID sign up to a fest although for no fault of my own that didn't work out in the end which means No Fest 2022 was a success. i also spent a lot less time forcing myself to write and a lot more time thinking about my motivations, the stories i really want to tell and what kind of presence i want to have. i wish i had cut back more but it's very hard. a while ago i described to a dear friend how falling out of love with a fandom community is a bit like moving house, and this move hasn't been smooth. i am proud of my efforts here though!

finding a balance to my outlining process - outlining has always been my weakness. my two longer works are a bit of a mess continuity-wise because my brain just hates outlining. the moment i write down what happens it ticks the wee box for that task and assumes i am done. this year i have found a happy balance where i don't outline too much so that my brain still thrives on the mystery but enough so that the final product isn't a total mess.

characterisation vs plotting - this ties in a little bit with the outlining thing above but i feel like a lot of what i wrote this year was character motivated rather than plot driven! it's a bit of a new approach for me but i am very pleased with the results. it took a lot of studying (mostly reading original stuff, but also a ton of @skeptiquewrites fic because in my opinion, no one does a full cast of characters that feel real and fleshed out and wonderful every single time like tee does!) and a lot more time considering who these characters are instead of actively writing to advance a story, which really worked out for me

2 resolutions

get back to original work - i have a novel idea that's been in my head for a very long time and my goal was to work on it at some point this year. i even gave it a good go during NaNo — unfortunately, it is largely horror and also very much based in my childhood home, in which i am currently living... you can see how that probably wasn't a good idea in the first place. (wtf was i thinking) so, depending on whether or not i manage to finish building and move into my tiny home at some point in 2023, a good chunk of a first draft should be achieved sometime next year!

give myself some grace - well. yeah. that. this is basically an extended version of the "cutting back" improvement from this year. i have to remind myself a lot that unexpected heartbreak and real life shit and bad mental health are all a thing. i'm not always going to be able to finish my projects, and sometimes i will be able to finish them but it won't be what i want it to be. so i'm putting joy above every other feeling next year by cutting myself some slack

1 favourite line

all my favourite lines this year are from the same fic but i am obsessed with how kevin and neil are basically canonically soulmates so i’m gonna go with:
