LOOKING | HAYDEN ELKAR

So, I said I would bring it and I did, although a little late, but here it is! Hayden's point of view of that scene. However, I won't be accepting headcanons for a little while longer, then I'll see if I bring some more POVs, depending on what you guys want, of course, and maybe I'll do a poll about it. At the moment, I'll be focusing on writing my other wip because I'll also bring an update for it this month, and then another update for Blood Legacies. Anyway, thank you for your attention and enjoy!

Looking.

Hayden wasn't anxious, no, not at all. That would be ridiculous, although they were always honest, even with themselves, they were not willing to admit to that. No, not at all, they still had a reputation to uphold.

However, they couldn't help but look around, their blue eyes trying to find someone who was definitely more interesting than the vultures around them. They ignored the meaningless conversations and flirtatious attempts of those around them, and as much as Hayden enjoyed flirting and hooking up with some people, these past few weeks they could only think about one person, and that person hadn't arrived yet. Hayden gave fake smiles to those who tried to talk to them, and it seemed to distract them, and they smiled back and puffed out their chest as if they were proud of it, as if any of them were worthy of their attention.

They were distractions, and nothing more than that, annoying distractions that on other days, Hayden wouldn't hesitate to please, just to have someone to distract their mind from the pressures and suffocating days, just to focus on something, even if only for a moment and only physically. Hayden wasn't a puritan, after all, and it annoyed their father that they weren't virgins anymore, so why not enjoy it? Irritating him has always been one of their favorite pastimes. It was petty, they knew. But their father knew exactly how suffocating he had been, how much pressure had been placed on their shoulders every day.

You hadn't arrived yet, and Hayden tried to think of something else, but with every person that left the castle or the bushes, their eyes always went in that direction, just to have their hope crushed every time. They wondered if you would come, but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen anytime soon. Maybe Hayden can go to you? Their lips curved into a smile at the thought. It would be fun, especially imagining the expression on your face when Hayden appeared in front of your room, or maybe already inside...

Hayden could think of things to do, to try, but they wouldn't dare to be too bold. As stupid as they may be, they didn't want to make you uncomfortable, and they know that some boundaries must be kept, although Hayden wished to break them as soon as possible. There was a wall between you, albeit a small one, Hayden hopes. They want so badly to destroy it, this little barrier, and maybe this fake relationship thing that you proposed (which brings an even bigger smile to their lips, thinking that you chose Hayden for it) is the key to that. They think, many times, about how it would be to hold your hand, how your lips would feel, how it would be to taste them, how it would be if...

Wait, those are...

You were here, you... were holding Cecilia's hand? Hayden furrowed their brow and stared at you. They can't help it. Feeling tense at the sight. You wouldn't... no, that would be silly. You wouldn't regret choosing them, right? You wouldn't change your mind and choose Cecilia instead, would you? Hayden clenched their jaw and couldn't stop a small spark of insecurity from arising within them, okay, maybe a little more than a spark, not that they would admit it out loud. Hayden couldn't help but think that maybe it's not possible anymore, that maybe you don't... They shake their head, no. But it wasn't just that, it was... You, holding Cecilia's hand amidst everyone there, showing everyone that factor, without fear, without hesitation. Hayden would be lying if they said they didn't want to be in Cecilia's place, they would be lying if they said they didn't want you to have that courage with them. They wanted to be the ones whose hand you held, and they weren't. But it was meant to be, you had proposed the idea of a... fake relationship, but still...

They realized moments later that it was jealousy, pure and simple. And this fact almost made them want to melt right there, and for a moment they felt ashamed. They shouldn't feel this way, not about you, not when you weren't officially together, you were free to do whatever you want, with whoever you want, and yet... Hayden knew exactly what they were feeling, and they weren't afraid of it, but maybe you are, and a part of them would love to tell you the truth right in your face and try to make you confront it instead of avoiding it, but it's too early. And they knew that you needed time.

They felt their lips, which were previously closed in a thin line, curve into an involuntary smile. Of course, of course they feel jealous. They wouldn't be afraid to show it, but they fear that maybe their methods of calming this feeling within them would be too much for you. Hayden thought of a few things, they thought of going to you, of placing a hand around your waist, of touching your face, your cheek, your lips... right in front of everyone, just to make it clear that you were with them, to make it clear that they...

Your eyes met theirs, and Hayden held their breath.

Too soon. Too early.

They stare at you from the other side, and you don't look away, remaining unchanged, staring at them as if it were a challenge, but there was a touch of confusion there, a small touch, and then you avert your gaze.

They could wait, Hayden thinks, the heart that raced within them was impatient, but their mind wasn't.

You would leave tomorrow, and Hayden wanted to go as well, with you, to at least ensure that you would be okay, no matter how silly it was to think that way, after all, you knew how to fight and take care of yourself, but a part of them still wanted to protect you from getting hurt and to make sure you would return safely, but they knew their father wouldn't allow it, and undoubtedly there would be guards following Hayden for the entire time you were away, even if their father didn't know about the little arrangement between the two of you, he knew that they might try to anger him and go on the mission without authorization.

He wasn't wrong.

Hayden tried to distract themselves with the trivial conversations the others around them were having, and they didn't dare to look at you for a while, until they felt the eyes on them. Normally, Hayden knew that there would always be eyes on them, after all, they were attractive in many ways, but this gaze was different, and they recognized you the moment you stepped towards them. Hayden feels themselves getting a bit tense, and dismisses the onlookers, waiting until you reach them, and they can't help but say... "You know, when we agreed to have this thing between us, it was supposed to be as a couple, and not you holding hands with someone else." Not them, that's what they really wanted to say. They changed their minds, they don't like feeling jealous, but since when do they hold back from speaking their mind?

Okay, maybe for you, they will. And a tiny bit for their own pride.

Oh, they were so confused.

Multi-Chapter

'Tis the Season (To Be Tea-la-la-lally) by polutropos (Teen And Up, WIP, AU) I'm not one for modern AUs normally, not at all, and I honestly didn't want to read it at the start, but then I did (here on Tumblr) and got sucked in LOL. It's just great, and I love the Holiday Spirit! (I won't tag you here again, as you're tagged in the entire post anyway 😄 brilliant story)

Rising as if Weightless by StarSpray (Gen) The story of Elwing suddenly becoming the big sister/foster mom of her older brothers. This is so tender and beautiful and has so much character growth and so many bitter-sweet reunions, and above all so much depth.

A Pair of Stars by Magicfeather205 (Teen And Up) Pre-historic Elves, and the birth of future kings. That was honestly the most interesting story I read this year, with wonderful and very accurate world-building and a beautiful story (and thank you, author, I now can't get the 'Elwë and Olwë were indeed the first set of twin-boys in that family' out of my head where it fights a raging battle with my own headcanon) Also, I want this fic to be read by every single midwife (and, more importantly, other obstetrician). THAT is how you treat a birthing mom. That's how you handle unforeseen events. I loved this so so so much. It would have felt perfectly natural to have Trixie and Nurse Crane walk in there- sorry about that fandom-mixup)

As Flowers From the Sky by Beleriand Death Trip (E) Fingolfin/Elu Thingol... this is honestly a ship I would never ever have thought of myself, or seen a way in which this could work, but this story DOES work within canon, and beautifully so. It has it all, from very interesting world-building ideas to mild- (and VERY funny) horror-elements, and from foreshadowing and tensions to being wonderfully wholesome. You'll feel better after reading this, I promise!

The Unforsaken by @ceescedasticity (M, WIP) Last but definitely not least. I'll again link the first part of the series in the before-2023-part, and probably say more about it there. But yeah, absolutely a must-read! Go! Go, destroy the Orc-bank! (But don't blow yourselves up!)

One-Shots

Bloodied by ohboromir (Gen) Just a little First-Battle-story. I love to see Elu and Beleg and Mablung together so so so much (who would have thought, ey?).

Unstoppable Winds by LadyBrooke (Teen And Up) The destruction of Númenor as viewed by a few of their ancestors. I really loved this because I have never actually seen a story about the Fall of Númenor written from that POV and it did (or rather does) inspire me quite a lot in my own WIP. (I have to apologise here for not having more, I read so many great one-shots here on Tumblr that I just failed to save in some way. I may add to this list if I find the time to scroll through my timeline and see which of those I reblogged)

Before 2023

elves, once (M) by @ceescedasticity The part one of the series The Unforsaken belongs to as well. And for me the most recommendable story there is (though I would guess most who see this post will know the story already). The name says it all, really, as it is the story of all those canon-characters who ended up as Orcs. This is the sort of fic I really enjoy because it actually gives an answer to a question canon rises. The Orc-bank has since so much passed into my own headcanon that I sometimes forget that it is not actually canon (which leads to very awkward situations sometimes at our monthly discussing-Tolkien-gatherings, I tell you that)

across so wide a sea (Gen, WIP) by Adwen Unfinished, but one of the most hilarious stories I've ever read. I hope so much that author continues writing it one day, but even if they don't, it's a great laugh to read what is written, and ah, the possibilities!

The Carriage held but just Ourselves (Teen and Up) by StarSpray The story of how Melian and her descendants deal with death when they finally come to face it. I don't know when I last cried so much when reading a fic. It's not just that it's so so so sad (because yeah, go kill us all even in the one chapter that should be somewhat 'happy' 😭), but also incredibly beautiful and written perfectly in-character. It's looking into those women's minds. One of my bed-time-stories. (hmpf. All the others are multi-chapters form this year. ah well...)

My own

Yet Were Its Making Good, For This (not rated, but mature:ish; WIP) Ah, my problematic WIP. I wanted that story so so so so so badly written that I forced it, and it cost me MANY nerves. Mablung of Doriath/Elu Thingol. (How is it that nobody ever wrote that ship before?????????????) Works within canon if one squints one's eyes a bit. I'm currently working on the Epilogue ind Valinor, which might, MIGHT, for once give one of my stories a truly happy ending.

Into Oblivion (M) The smut-part of Yet Were Its Making Good, For This. Elwë/Mablung/Beleg. (Well, what do you all think they got up to during the journey?) Doesn't interfere with later canon.

Why, It Asks (Gen) It's a very short read, but one that is super dear to me for some reason. Elmo's thoughts as he stands by and watches his brother's grave being dug.

Moving On-series (Gen) Is this cheating, now? As it's really three one-shots? If it is, pick the last one to read. I'm just so fond of what my imagination spat out there world-building-wise LOL. It's the story of the time Elwë was missing to his and Melian's coronation, as mostly told from Elmo's POV.

Eyes In The Dark (Gen) I just had to put it here, as it's quite sweet to read, but given the hardly-mentioned-in-canon-characters it's hardly read by anyone. Give it a try, though. I bet you like it. Little Denethor is frightened by eyes in the dark, and runs for Lenwë for help. And Lenwë is being just about the best Dad ever.

And now we come to the bit I always dread. I suck at tagging people, because I always forget who enjoys such things and who doesn't, and because everyone's probably been already tagged. So let's do this differently, then- all writers who read this and want to share their recs, please do! (Cheating again, I know)

I could definitely see this. Maybe he doesn’t wrap his hands when he trains and lets his skin get cut up and bruised easily and doesn’t let himself heal. If Azriel does cut himself, do you think his brothers would know or have their assumptions? I feel like if they did know it wouldn’t be because Az told them. I don’t think he would tell anybody.

Also, for Gwyn, how do you think she deals with her trauma? I know some people view her only as passive and optimistic/upbeat, (which there’s nothing wrong with), but I wonder if deep down she has some intense rage, (which would be very understandable) and deals with things like Azriel or Nesta, but hides it from everyone. We don’t have her POV, but I really want to know more about her character.

I use to cut myself and I’m a survivor of assault, so it makes curious, and a little nervous, as to how Sarah will approach these topics. I think she’s done research on disabilities for Chaol when writing TOD, but I can’t be too sure. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

First off anon, giving you the biggest virtual hugs ever, I am glad to hear that you aren't harming yourself anymore. It may never go away, but you've come out the other side stronger and wiser.

Yes, harming could be something that no one could accuse Azriel of doing intentionally, but instead they may notice him playing fast and loose with his own safety. I think we can already see a bit of that with the risks that he takes on his missions, how willing he is to do things to others (IE torture) without regard for how those actions might affect his own psyche. It would be really easy for him to brush off the injuries as being part of the job, for him to make excuses about how he was injured. If he pushes himself a bit harder than he needs to and he ends up in a dangerous position, then people might have a hard time saying he's actually being self-destructive, you know?

I don't think his brothers would know or that he would tell anyone. Just speaking from experience, if people know then they want to help and then you get attention and really you just want to suffer and self-destruct in isolation. He's a pretty closed book, he doesn't really share his inner life, and perhaps he doesn't even acknowledge those behaviors as being harmful? I kind-of headcanon that he thinks he deserves it. Also, I think that people who have never done anything like that just... will never get it. It's so foreign to them. It's fine that they don't, that just makes it really tricky to navigate telling anyone and then hoping to get an understanding response!

I see Gwyn's competitiveness and pushing herself to train as the way she is dealing with her guilt and grief over Catrin. I don't think she's self-destructive at all, but her attitude seems to be more along the lines of "never again". I am rereading acosf so if I find any quotes I'll add them. She's one of the characters that sjm has described as being kind and optimistic despite what she's gone through (like Mor and Elain), and so to me, her training is the way she is being proactive. Gwyn definitely carries guilt for her sister's death, but I think she knows cognitively that it wasn't her fault (also like Elain! who acknowledges that her father's death wasn't her fault, but still has regrets).

Funny story, but the omniscient narrator did actually give us a peek into Gwyn's mind in acosf.

Roslin, Ananke, and Deirdre were close on their heels, propelling Gwyn to push her group harder. She wanted to be the first. Wanted Nesta and Emerie and her to be the ones who wiped the smirks from Azriel’s and Cassian’s faces. Especially Azriel’s.

Gwyn didn't tell Nesta this information; the omniscient narrator is telling us Gwyn's thoughts and feelings. There may be other points in the book where this happens, it's just the first one that comes to mind!

But anyway, I don't know if I see rage in Gwyn, so much as I see determination for the events of her past to never be repeated, and to me, that comes out as her competitiveness towards Azriel, wanting to cut the ribbon, making it through the Blood Rite, etc.

Sjm did do research on disability! I went to her Tower of Dawn event in London (in 2017) and she mentioned interviewing people with Wounded Warriors Project to better understand their injuries and to try to write Chaol's experience with care. There isn't a recording of this event as far as I know, back in the day you either went in person to events or you waited for people to make recap posts on Tumblr. Fun fact, that event was also where she announced her first pregnancy!

I'm personally not worried about how sjm will handle either of their healing stories, mainly because I'm not sure that she would actually delve into the depths of Azriel's self destruction. She pulled Nesta's story away from those themes pretty quickly and easily in acosf, so...

I hope that their stories help you feel seen and understood, however they turn out <3

Can you please tell us about your Gourmand headcanons?

Yeah Ofc! I love Gourmand as they're just absolutely great, especially since my pal gourmy is the first campaign of downpour when it was released. I enjoyed their campaign a lot, and had a blast towards the end of their campaign. Seriously, I wish I could get a hug from them because I KNOW they give amazing hugs!

Time for everyone's favorite family oriented orange slugcat! And as everyone knows, this is my own hcs about them and, and definitely some Gourmand spoilers. Please don't be offended at any of this, as these are my own personal beliefs!

ANYWAYS! GOURMAND SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!

Design Choices

My design for Gourmand isn't very flashy or anything, but to be honest, I feel it suits them and their personality! It's very close to the original, but has my own little flair and sparkle to it to make our pal Gourmand stand out a bit!

I decided to give them just oranges for a pallet, with their nose being the darkest, which is a dark orange. I usually shift blacks and such for cannon designs to another color of the design but a lot darker to keep the colors overall the same, but just a little easier to look at (in most cases).

I made the tips of Gourmand's limbs, including their tail, dewlap, and ears, a darker orange as I took a bit of inspiration from cat breeds in real life, with my own cat being the main inspiration. This makes Gourmand stand out a bit more, and makes it easier for me to make art of them, as their limbs mark where my own wacky anatomy should be.

Personality

My version of Gourmand has a tough exterior as they need to keep a strong stance towards the hardships of the world around them. Despite this, Gourmand also shows a lot of love, compassion, and sympathy for the world around them at the right moments of course! Gourmand doesn't view the world as only black and white, instead, more of everything being in a morally grey area. Gourmand believes there's a reason for everything, and if possible, they try to go to the more pacifist side of things to keep peace.

Speaking of this, the reason Gourmand is like this is because they believe this deep in their heart, but also because they want to provide their colony with a good example. Gourmand wants to show their colony that while the world is extremely dangerous and that they need to take caution, but also that they can also show compassion even in the scariest of situations.

Other than setting an example, Gourmand loves telling tales of adventures, history, and places they've been, as it always makes others happy, and especially gets the slugpups super excited. Sometimes these stories are made up, but Gormand always lets the listeners know beforehand to clear any misconceptions.

Gourmand is a great parent to all, and generally kind to everyone unless their friends, family, slugpup, or colony is in trouble. While Gourmand is kind, they are a force not to be reckoned with, as they are strong both in personality, and physical strength, and those they care about fuel their determination to continue on.

Powers

Gourmand's powers are a bit of a weird one to me! Being able to create something from your stomach isn't something I've seen before, nor do I have a naturally logical way to explain how this would work (Enot was different as they didn't need to have logic applied to them bc cryptid slugcat), but I'll try my best to explain how this works in a rain world logic sense (hopefully). It's a bit complicated, but here's my best shot!

The best way I could possibly explain slugcat powers is that their body developed some kind of mutation, something with radiation (highly unlikely), or something with being a descendant of a purposed organism/modified slugcat. This is where I believe slugcats get their powers from, as this is the best explanation I have for such unnatural abilities. In Gourmand's case, this happened with their stomach!

My best logic to how Gourmand's stomach creation works is that Gourmand needed to have swallowed the created item in their life at any moment for them to make it in their stomach again. Since Gourmand takes a food pip when they create an item in their stomach, this makes me believe that their body harvests the nutrients to make it, using the information of the dna/material/whatever made the item to re-create it in Gourmand's stomach to pull it out. This explains the randomized effect of what's pulled out of Gourmand's stomach.

As for the crafting mechanic, I wouldn't say that's a power. Gourmand could use their power to help combine items, but for the most part, I feel that it comes from a chemistry standpoint. It's still very useful and important! To me though, I don't think it's a power, even from a rain world logic POV.

Headcannons and Slugcat Colonies

This category is a bit different from the Enot post, and that's because I have my own thoughts about the cannon slugcats!

I personally like to think there's a big distance between Gourmand and Survivor/Monk's timeline placement as this makes the most sense in my head for what I'm gonna say, and it gives Gourmand the "Old and cool legendary ancestor" vibes!

Gourmand in my HC was the one that found the slugcat tree, and started a home there for the whole colony! If it weren't for Gourmand, then Monk and Survivor's campaigns wouldn't have happened. I want to give Gourmand that bc it makes them just the more special in my eyes!

The reason I believe this is because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for Gourmand to already be there and then start searching for food, and then to get up and leave once food is found. If there's more food in an area, animals tend to stick around, and the slugcats aren't an exception from this. I believe that Gourmand searching was making sure that the area has plenty food, as the colony recently moved and was looking for another temporary home. Another thing to support this is the wall drawings, as I feel the colony would talk about Gourmand through generations.

Another one of my HC's is that Gourmand is the leader of the specific slugcat colony. A lot of people probably think this already, but I'd at least like to give my own take with my own spin on how a Slugcat colony works.

Gourmand is a leader in my eyes because of how useful they are to the colony, and how strong they are. Animals usually prove dominance in size and strength, which Gourmand definitely has (My Gourmand is a big lovable fella)! But since this is also fiction, I added more to this. Slugcats usually choose their leaders based on a few qualities, which are:

Size: Gourmand is big yes, which gives them the upper hand at intimidating possible threats! Slugcats view Gourmand as very important due to this factor, as any predators that would try to harm a slugpup would have to face the intimidation of an angry Gourmand. This is why Gourmand fits here!

Strength: Gourmand DEFINITELY has some big strength to them, bro does 3 damage when not tired! This is viable to a slugcat colony as this shows that they can rely on their leader in even the most difficult of situations. That, and also they are capable of defending the young! Slugcats view this as one of the most important features in a leader, so this is why Gourmand is super important in this category.

Intelligence and Powers: Gourmand definitely checks out here! Their powers and their intelligence combine together, making them VERY useful to the colony. Gourmand can use their powers to help get their colony out of a tight bind, to entertain, and to direct. Slugcats can always count on Gourmand if stuck, which is why Gourmand fits!

Compassion: My Gourmand DEFINITELY fits here! Gourmand is super caring and great with kids, kind to everyone that they can be, uses their powers to help others, uses their intelligence to lead, and does everything in their ability to make sure their colony is safe. Why Gourmand left to look for food is because they wanted to make sure their colony would live and thrive. They'd do anything for their colony, and care for them dearly! This is probably the most important rule of a leader to them, as slugcats are usually social creatures, and rely on companionship to thrive.

If a slugcat leader doesn't fit most of these, and/or possibly abuses their leadership, the colony will choose another leader, and in VERY extreme cases, the leader will be thrown out of the colony (Totally doesn't have something like this with another character).

Relationships

Iterators

Gourmand is overall friendly towards all of the iterators, as Gourmand gets the feeling that the world has been unkind to them, given their situation. Gourmand knows that being stuck inside a box isn't the best, especially if they cannot leave, and can only view the world from small holograms. Gourmand feels bad about their situation, so they come to visit the iterators to help keep them company, and to tell the iterators stories they'd be interested in.

Gourmand does have a lot of respect for them, as they know that the iterators have a lot of power, but have to be careful with their given situation. Gourmand views the iterators as fairly important, and that alone makes one of the reasons Gourmand respect them.

Slugcat Family + Monk and Survivor

Gourmand is their ancestor, so Gourmand is related to them. Despite this, Gourmand has a HUGE amount of respect for the slugcat family. This is because even though they had two kids they lost, they decided to stay strong, and to dive in after their family, which Gourmand finds to be very admirable. Gourmand would do anything to make sure they're safe.

For Monk and Survivor, Gourmand has a huge amount of respect for them both! Gourmand finds it admirable that they stayed strong in a world so dangerous, able to take caution, and able to use the tricks they've passed on through the colony. Despite this, Gourmand also feels sadness for them as they know it was an extremely rough situation on slugcats so young. They'd do anything to make sure that Monk and Survivor don't get separated from their family again.

Nightcat and Inv/Enot

Gourmand is friendly towards them both! Although Gourmand tends to dislike Enot's flirting, they still think of them both as friends. Gourmand does find them a bit mysterious as they both seemed to appear out of nowhere, and with the strangest first interactions as well. As far as Gourmand knows, Enot and Nightcat don't know their parents, and don't have any family nearby. Regardless of this, Gourmand took them both into their colony, and loves talking to them.

Hunter and Artificer

Gourmand is best friends with Artificer and Hunter, and values hunting with them! The three are nearly inseparable, and value each other's company, as well as talking about the colony. Slowly overtime though, Gourmand began to have a crush on the two, and seeing the two in a relationship was nice, but they wanted to confess their feelings to both of them. Eventually Gourmand does, and the three end up in a poly relationship! They're quite happy together :D

Regardless of this, Gourmand has respect for Hunter as they went to save Moon despite them being sickly. Gourmand has since then been finding ways to help Hunter, and with Sig's help, they're lessening the effects that the rot had on Hunters body. Through all this, Gourmand sees Hunter as a fearless and stoic warrior, and loves how kind they can be despite this.

Artificer is a bit of a different story, as Arti had some bad experiences with the colony, and Gourmand doesn't agree with Artificers genocidal ways. Gourmand was a bit on edge of first meeting them, but it grew to fondness as Gourmand realized that Arti is trying to correct their wrongs, and make up for what they've done in the past, with one of those being to apologize to their colony. Upon finding out about Arti's situation, they've grown closer to Artificer, and letting Arti interact with the colony as a way to help heal from the past. Gourmand is a firm believer that Artificer can heal, and they choose to stick by Arti every step of the way.

Spearmaster, Rivulet, and Saint

Gourmand isn't super close to Spearmaster, Rivulet, or Saint, but enjoys their company! Gourmand knows they mean no harm intentionally, but also respects Rivulet and Spearmaster quite a bit for helping the iterators. Saint is a bit more distant, and from what Gourmand knows, Saint has a bit of a complicated past. Gourmand isn't going to push it, but they'll always be there if Saint needs someone to talk to. Gourmand is always welcome to them joining their colony, and is on quite good terms with the three.

This illustration I did last month sure is regaining some traction recently. It made me start thinking of how such a moment even happened and how it would go down

Be advised, this talk MAY get spicy but not much. So I'll put it under a cut.

Word of God states Nomoto is demisexual while Kasuga is demiromantic. They definitely have a strong bond formed, but how they react in intimate situations probably vary between the two!

I feel a kinship to Nomoto as a fellow demisexual (though I am also homoromantic. She's probably aro based on what we know of her but at that point I'm headcanoning lol). She bonded with Kasuga pretty quick. She had someone to share meals with! And then the thought of having a friend after not having any for so long...that felt wonderful, didn't it, Nomoto?

As she continued to hang out with Kasuga, she found her cuter...sweeter...beautiful. Like you can see this evolution happen as you read. And it evolves rather quickly! Sparkly Kasuga and even flowery Kasuga start taking over as her personal 1st person pov filter. Eventually, the idea of actual skinship gets to her. Hard. I've seen Ch 40 in raw format. Even just the idea of a hand hold and a hug really escalate things for her. This is hot for her! And I'm sure she wants to go further but only if Kasuga is okay with it.

And that brings us to Kasuga. It's definitely a lot more subtle with her. She isn't going to hold back from eating if Nomoto is inviting her. She is surprised by the thought that someone wants to hang out with her beyond their agreed, formal conditions. She starts opening up more and really viewing the world in a whole new light as she starts thinking about what Nomoto would think about X or if Nomoto would create something amazing out of Y...She cares for her and worries about her and she would want nothing more to just be by her side.

Kasuga does have a habit of keeping things to herself unless asked/poked about it. This is definitely a flaw, and one that the drama addressed in its unique episodes.

Kasuga cares more about the happiness for her loved one. She can manage and shift things if need be. This stems from her childhood. She had to be flexible because her needs were not as important.

So, I can definitely see Kasuga continuing to do whatever Nomoto feels like doing. And she would genuinely like it! A hug here? Sure! A kiss there? Of course! And yes. This would stretch into when they do get even more intimate. Kasuga, may be shy at first, but she would participate with her consent. Whatever Nomoto needs her to do, she'll do it. Undress her, undress herself, whisper sweet nothings into her ear...just say the word and she'll follow Nomoto's lead.

But there's definitely a lack of speaking up for her own wants and needs that Nomoto will pick up on. This is where the fanart comes in. Nomoto is probably feeling a little frisky and they start doing stuff their usual way, but Nomoto will just kinda...stop.

Kasuga is confused. Did she do something wrong? No, not really, but, while it's fun being able to go this far now, it's all just been focused on Nomoto's side.

What does Kasuga want to do? She does enjoy the hugs, right? Of course. The kisses? They definitely bring the butterflies fluttering for her, yes. And... anything else?

Nomot would remind her of that line she told her back after the vegetable picking date. "I want you to be selfish in front of me." Something about that new emphasis would make Kasuga stop and think. What does she want？

She wants Nomoto, of course. She wants to be with her, always by her side. If she could hold her forever, she would (but then she can't make meals oh no~). She now has gained the knowledge of what makes Nomoto react positively, so she'd lunge in and start doing those things. In the end, she still wants Nomoto to be happy, and she's going to give her that happiness herself this time, and this time she'll have some personal feedback that feels pretty warm and caring~

And Nomoto wouldn't have to really direct her or suggest much unless, well, she's "ready." Nomoto would be in for QUITE the ride~

the watch is the one i hc kim still wears. it's at 00:00 here bc eyes's time has run out, and the numbers above it are the date of his death (July 2, '45.). there's also the gunshot wound eyes dies from. it parallels harry's gunshot wound on his outer left thigh, except that eyes dies from the infection where harry survives it.

obviously the swirls are the pale bc eyes in my hcs is very connected to the pale, as harry is. i want there to be strong parallels bw harry and eyes. the way harry is sunrise to kim, brightness after a long period of dark, the way he represents hope and the future. whereas eyes is the past and despair. eyes being the pale, harry being the sun, and kim being elysium, the world in between. and kim being the protector of that world by way of protecting its future savior, harry. bc harry is revachol, and kim loves revachol, and he takes good care of those things he protects, see.

something also about the way eyes is a necessary sacrifice. that kim would never have been there for harry if eyes hadn't died first. that the only way harry could hope to push back the pale, the despair, the hopelessness of non-existence is by having kim there, and kim can't be there for harry unless eyes dies first. after the world, the pale. after the pale, the world again. after eyes, harry.

Is Andrew Misogynistic? How so?

FYI: this is the second time I'm writing all this because Tumblr just. unpromptedly deleted the whole thing just when I was done, so if there's anything weird I apologize, and feel free to ask about it.

This started out as a reblog from @stuck-in-between-two-worlds that got too big and I decided it deserved it's own post, so I hope it helps :)

First of all we need to lay out that it is very clear that Nora didn't always have the vocabulary to explain the things she wanted to say. Think about Neil's sexuality, or Andrew's mental state. She knew how they worked, but not the proper names to things.

So when she stated that Andrew was misogynistic (on an ask about Neil's mom and through Renee's pov on son nefes), did she mean it as in "Think Women Are Lesser and #GenderRoles"? Very likely not.

This is what causes a lot of backlash, because today this is the definition we have for misogyny, and it really doesn't make sense for the character. But it's important to remember that the series came out almost 10 years ago, and much of it (including son nefes) was drafted even longer before that. Social issues were not talked about the same way as today, so it was very plausible then, if you didn't have the right information, to call a character that holds a prejudice against women, even if it's not based on a patriarchal view, misogynistic.

And Andrew DOES have issues with women, like it or not:

1- He had 12 therapists before Bee, many of whom straight up said they would never let him work with women again [x]

2 - This exchange with Renee

3 - His deal with Aaron was specifically about women hurting him. That's why Andrew's reaction to Allison was way stronger than to Matt, even when what she did was considerably milder. This extended to the point that "not letting a girl hurt him" meant not letting them get close to his brother at all.

These are the unquestionable examples, but some people could take how he treats Katelyn, the way he is agressive to Abby at the motel, or the justification for taking Dan to Eden's as signs of it as well, but that's more open to interpretation.

So what can we take from this? Purely from what was given in canon or word of god, that Andrew is weary and distrustful of women, but that it really is a PREjudice and he's capable of looking past it in Bee and Renee when they prove it to him that "they're not like other girls", so to say. This is a completely valid textual analysis, and, from what little she said, Nora's intention when writing the character. You can dislike it, hc it differently, but not deny that it isn't there.

Now, his reasoning for these beliefs is something we do not have explained anywhere, so while I (or anyone) can guess at it, this is where we enter personal interpretation / meta / headcanon territory, and you can choose to completely disregard my take.

If you ask me, I see it as a personal bias formed from his trauma. (which doesn't excuse his actions in any way btw).

Between Cas, Tilda, and what we can assume are many foster homes, Andrew sees women as a threat he can't predict. Men hurt him explicitly and outwardly, they hit him and slip in his bedroom, and these are all very palpable dangers. Women were the ones that abandoned him, turned a blind eye, neglected behind smiles. How do you protect yourself against that besides being careful? It's not something you fight with your fists. (honestly i can expand on that but this post is long as it is and idk if anyone is really interested)

So, TLDR: Is Andrew misogynistic? By the understanding we have of the word today, no. But I don't think it's fair to ignore all this facet of the character just because the author used the wrong word to define it, right?

Don't you think his flaws make it all much more interesting?

Okay, so, the hagsfiend headcanons >:D

First, I am a simple person: I see dragons, I have to at least check out the idea, so when Lasky introduced Penryck "the Sky Dragon" and then did so little with him, I was very disappointed and made up a few headcanons about him:

- in the First Collier it is mentioned that Arryn had a son; my headcanon is that Penryck met Arryn's son first and he, in turn, convinced Arryn to hire Penryck (because I doubt Arryn would've considered hiring hagsfiends all on his own, he would've tried to get an owl warlord on his side instead)

- Penryck is actually better at diplomacy than Arryn, and he was trying to recruit some of Arryn's generals during the second half of The coming of Hoole; that's one of the reasons there are rumours about them going separate ways at the beginning of To be a King (also, his POV in the Coming of Hoole is him mentally rolling eyes at both Arryn's racist shit and his incompetence as a strategist, and I wish there was more of villainous flashbacks because trying to reverse engineer Sklardrog's personality off one pov and a handful of lines is painful)

- A bit more speculative one: Penryck crossed paths with Theo's father and uncle(possibly killed or ordered to kill the latter). Theo asks Grank if he's sure that Penryck killed the high king ‐ why specifically him and not any other warlord? Either Sklardrog's reputation is that scary or Theo had a personal reason to fear him. (This bit never came up again in the books, though, so it stays a speculation)

- Hoole's first time using firesight was a big missed opportunity. Imagine if he saw hagsfiends just living their lives and started doubting what Grank had told him?

- A rather sad one: I thought a lot about Ygreek and Pleek. A lot. (Mostly ranging between "Who hurt you, Grank?" and "Who hurt you, Kathryn?") Because the more I thought about it, the more it felt(at least the translation) like a part of Ygreek's desire to have a child comes from wanting to fit a "proper family" mold; we don't get a similar in-depth introspection about kids from Pleek's point of view, but since Grank picks him out instantly when he looks into the Ember, I headcanon that Pleek comes from a noble family (probably not as rich as Arryn, Siv or Grank himself), and he probably heard plenty of that "your purpose is to have an heir and pass on the family name one day" nonsense before he met Ygreek. So they both have their share of internalised issues about having kids.

(Oof, that got wordy)

I LOVE DRAGONS. I agree, I wish Penryck's character had been explored more. He does seem to be better at diplomacy from his short conversation with Lord Arrin. Lord Arrin's character pretty much boils down to "I want the throne" and "I want a wife," so it makes sense that Penryck was pulling all the strings behind the scenes. In terms of appearance I'd like to think Penryck had claws on his wings, perhaps scaled talons and very long ear-tufts to the point where they looked like horns.

I just think it's funny that owls are convinced hagsfiends are evil when all the hagsfiends in the legends books were hired by owl lords to overthrow King H'rath. The hagsfiends were definitely taking advantage of the situation there, but it's strange that they're considered more villainous than the owl lords who 1) have a gizzard so they know right from wrong, and 2) still chose to do wrong.

I believe it was confirmed that Pleek was a noble lord, which makes me respect his character more because like you pointed out, he probably faced a ton of pressure from his family to have an heir, and also backlash for falling in love with the enemy. When the war starts he would most likely have lost all his noble titles for consorting with a hagsfiend. He gave up so much for Ygryk, and it feels like a further punishment that they can't have a normal family together. Ygryk would probably also feel a lot of guilt for causing her mate to be cut off and shunned by his kind. Pleek and Ygryk may have been horrible parents to Lutta, but they also didn't have the best situation.

character ask game for adaine: 8, 12, 22, and freebie: do you have any scraps/ideas for jawbone's pov (seeing or hearing about, where applicable) of adaine's various deaths/generally super reckless choices (i.e., allowing herself to get kidnapped by the nation who's stated purpose is to kill her)? he's so chill with the kids but i know she's giving him gray hair

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Hmm, I don't know that there really IS anything. I've seen a couple other people answer this question that the fandom tends to file her rough edges off - she's got a lot of ANGER as well as the anxiety, obviously - but I actually think a lot of stories do get that right. (Mine tend to vary on this depending on the AU and situation - something like Pact or even Missing she's MOSTLY anger and impulse over anxiety)

Take this one with a grain of salt, then, because I firmly believe in people doing what they want and reinterpreting characters as you choose and all but I do like Adaine's design better without glasses and think she only gets them in so much art because other than that she's the bad kid with the strongest physical resemblance to her player.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

By the time of junior year, she's gone all the way from the girl having a panic attack after borderline accidentally killing the lunch lady to being the Bad Kid least bothered by the amount of murdering people they do, even more than Riz. In part I think this is a coping mechanism, but in part I think it's just that she gets so many glimpses of extra futures in which they either have killed a bunch of people or all died horrible deaths and so she's become just a little bit too jaded about it.

Also, this is maybe not character-specific but wizards at large, but the better wizards we see in the series (Adaine, Ayda, Arthur, and Aelwyn, specifically) all leap to violence at a rate not matched by that many others - even among the bad kids, it's really only Riz who's going to go with violence as the answer as rapidly as Adaine does a lot of the time.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

Oooh. I mean, for likes obviously any sort of at least sort-of happy family time, Adaine and Aelwyn bantering in a not totally hostile way, but that's as much about Aelwyn or Jawbone as it is Adaine. I'm a big fan of when she does have that moment where she throws careful plans out the window and starts smashing or stabbing things. I'm also an absolute sucker for a well done prophecy or vision arc - there are limits in an actual play on how far you can go with this that a planned story can blast beyond.

Similar to my answer to number 8 above, there's not that much that I don't like that I see in a ton of fic that's character specific! It's fun reading other people interpreting the character. Even though I'm pretty on board with aroace Adaine, an in character sort of romance can be fun to read if it's in the context of a plot I'd otherwise enjoy.

For the freebie question, I don't know that I have any scraps but this is definitely something I think about. I've written about it a little bit in Bunk at least - Adaine and Riz' had their deaths livestreamed out to the world in the nightmare king fight, and while I've not written that moment out directly I've touched on it a few times. He's absolutely not going to bring it up to her, because it's her choice to be an adventurer and he wants to be supportive, I think, but he definitely worries. It could be fun to do one from his point of view during the Hot Night Yorb Summer, actually, though it'd have a lot of overlap with my Aelwyn piece from the same timeframe.

"Overture" review

After so many years, Hazbin Hotel is finally out. As of making this, I was a bit surprised that Vivzie (and Prime) posted the first episode on YouTube with the series coming out soon but I’m not complaining, as I had a recent conversation with someone about if Vivzie would post the episodes on her YouTube channel over time and I think it could happen but SLOWLY, like months after season 1 is done and with months in between postings.

Now let’s begin this review/reaction literature. Along with obvious spoilers, this will be a long review (sorry in advance) but I would really appreciate if you could read the whole thing.

Being the premiere, it makes sense to start with exposition from Charlie. It’s also fitting that she tells it like a fairy tale as I see it reflecting how Charlie sees the world, though I bet it will change a bit later on. Hopefully she can still keep that POV a bit at the end of the series, maybe like a kind of modern day fairytale view of the world.

Insert “accurate angels” joke here.

So 2 women are representing good and evil. I’m making a note for that as that is definitely going to lead to something.

I do like how the story is keeping the fact that Lucifer was good, like how some versions say Lucifer was God’s number 1 angel. Also in the scene with the angels working on Earth, one of the angels is shaped like that angel we saw in the season 1 trailer, meaning she and Lucifer likely go way back and confirming that she is really powerful/high ranking angel. Some say she is a refence to an old character of Vivzie’s of an angle who LOVED torturing sinners so who knows.

LILITH! Also this confirms that she WAS human. Hopefully this means Lucifer is okay with other humans/sinners, especially Vaggie (hint hint writers) and Lilith being the “queen of succubus” is an honorary title like I brought up in the past.

I am curious about what “pre apple Adam” was like and if he was any different than his modern age self. There definitely should be a prequel episode showing more details of how Lucifer and Lilith met and leading to everything else.

Lucifer X Lilith is soo cute, I really hope nothing bad happened between them before the events of the series, as for some reason people have been theorizing and headcanoning that.

I’m hoping that Charlie’s happy tone at that part of the story confirms that they are still together.

Charlie’s story quickly goes from Lilith and Lucifer falling in love to them interacting with Eve. I feel like later on we will learn that something big happened in between these events, another reason for why a prequel episode should happen one day.

The apple makes the figure of Eve glow a bit like that woman from the beginning representing evil, I knew that’d come in handy. This and the fact that the apple is supposed to represent the knowledge of BOTH good and evil but isn’t here makes me wonder if Eve will be a villain in the show? I mean Adam is and after seeing how he ended up, I could see Eve being much worse. Plus Vivzie did say that the female characters will have more focus in Hazbin Hotel so I’ll keep an extra eye out with them. I also want to point out that this scene of Eve looks a lot like the early released trading card of Lilith! There is this theory floating around related to that but I’ll save that when we get more info.

The stuff about evil coming to be is a bit interesting/confusing. I just find it a little hard to believe that both good and evil can both existed at the same time here but it only took Lucifer’s actions to release it. Where was it before then and what was it doing? Could this possibly be hinting that elements of other religions/mythologies exist in this series, and whatever was left over became Hell/evilness? I do recall Stolas mentioning a creature from one such mythology in “Seeing Stars”. Could the “epilogue” of the Norse Ragnarök story be canon in this world? I do like the idea of God being Baldur. This also reminds me of an old idea of mind for a pic so stay tune for that.

Since this is from Charlie’s/Hell’s POV I do think that some of these events aren’t 100% true, like I don’t picture Lucifer wanting to give humans free will BUT it’s not impossible, as maybe he was so prideful and truly through it would be a good idea. Maybe he did it for Lilith, as she thought it will help Eve not go through the kind of things she went through with Adam that made her miserable. The story also does make Lucifer more sympathetic, considering the fact that he and Lilith were just tossed to Hell and no mentions of a fan popular idea of a war between Heaven and Hell along with that odd line about Lucifer never seeing/wanted to see the good in humanity and gave up on it and dreaming, considering how prideful he is supposed to be and how to me Lucifer looks like the kind of guy who wouldn’t give up that easily. Maybe Charlie will discover that Lucifer liked the evil and decided to make more things to hurt humanity, which as a bonus hurt those that ignored him for so long. This also does make me think this could be another idea/reason for why Lucifer is against Charlie’s plan, as he knows Heaven will say no to her redemption idea every time and doesn’t want Charlie to go through that pain, which could also again relate to another idea I’ve mentioned before of Lucifer not wanting Charlie to be constantly under threat from Heaven and its forces like he is.

It JUST occurred to me that Lilith could have singing powers, like a bard or maybe even a sonic scream but I rather see that last thing happen with Stella first :3

Again that female angel from the trailer is show but this time she is sad, implying she doesn’t like the Exterminations while Adam is happy with the idea. I wonder if this means that the female angel, while she seems to be okay with the Exterminations during the events of the show COULD eventually be remined that she wasn’t always like this and at the end of the season could become an angelic ally of Charlie and helps her get her redemption plan in motion on the Heaven side of things.

So there is another reason for the exterminations instead of just population control. This could mean that the popular idea of Lucifer and Lilith making the deal so they could have Charlie could be true as well.

The scene of sad Charlie having her eyes open when her heart beats must be symbolic of the day she came up with her redemption plan.

I think that line about “Lilith’s hope passing down to Charlie” could be much darker than it sounds. Yeah Lilith and Charlie want Hell to thrive, but what if while Charlie thinks working with Heaven to solve the population problem would be best for everyone, Lilith hoped Charlie would destroy Heaven and thinks peace is too submissive in her eyes? Just a random idea but it could be a reason if there is tension between the mother and daughter.

I wonder if that book Charlie is reading was actually made by her, like her POV of everything, or made by her parents? Sure maybe they altered some things but maybe this is how she or they really think about things? If not then I bet the author got an earful from Lucifer about making him a quitter though after seeing Ozzie and Bee, Lucifer could be less prideful than we think he is.

So just like in the pilot, it seems like Charlie has a stronger connection to her mother and wants to make her proud, even if my idea of them having different wants to make Hell thrive is different. Again going back to the trailer maybe they will both get what they want and realize that there are other options, causing the two to bond and spend more time in the next season.

Thinking back I personally think it would have been interesting if the scene of Charlie reading the story and saying she would make her mom proud had been a flashfoward situation, taking place before the season finale. It has been implied in the trailer that a big battle between Hell and the Exorcist will happen, so I would have liked the idea of Charlie reading the book to remind her that what she is doing is the right thing in the end, and if the book HAD been made by her it would have been something to inspire future demons and sinners in case she doesn’t make it. That would be awesome and again fits with what I said about her altering things in the story if she is the writer.

Still funny to hear Charlie curse.

I know I’m late on the VA thing but I’m still going to post my thoughts about them when they come up, like right now as Vaggie’s new voice strangely reminds me of Harley Quinn’s Poison Ivy and It doesn’t help that those two characters are a lot alike. At least it leads to fun fanart as I love both shows.

Lilith’s 7 year gap is concerning but given how Charlie and her family are immortal, it probably isn’t that bad to them. It actually fits with this funny headcanon idea of mine about how when Lucifer and Lilith have big fights, they won’t see each other for decades or centuries before apologizing, but to them it is the equivalent of a day or two. I am a bit concerned that while her parents think this isn’t that long, it IS to Charlie, who is technically still “young” seemingly being only a few centuries old. This also goes back to that theory I was going to save for later, but it’s implied that Lilith is on a mission to stop something or someone but could be disguised as someone we know or could appear later on. I think we should play it safe when we see a modern day Lilith and assume that it could be someone else pretending to be Lilith.

Charlie X Vaggie are so CUTE!

I mentioned this in my HH S1 trailer breakdown but I still find the part of the commercial of the one guy stabbing the other funny cause the guy being stabbed doesn’t seem to mind XD.

That pic in Al’s commercial of Charlie and Lucifer better be overexaggerating, or I say we riot!

Also Al’s new voice is okay, though I do hear the difference. Can’t say the same thing for Angel as it sounds really odd like an accent is trying to get through his voice.

Husk and Niffty’s voices sound fine, Niffty’s being the most perfect so far.

I once brought up the idea of Charlie basing her teachings on Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, I just want to bring that up as a possible thing they will do for rehabilitation since they don’t have any ideas how to at this moment.

Was the scene of Charlie with wild eyes a meme or refence to something? It was still pretty funny.

So Lucifer wants Charlie to meet Adam for him. On one hand this could just be him being lazy OR maybe he is trying to help Charlie in his own way. That or like I said before, maybe he thinks if Charlie realizes what she is up against, it could make her want to quit her redemption goal.

Despite her father being an angel/fallen angel, Charlie doesn’t know if angels have hearts. I wonder how much of Lucifer did change when he became a fallen angel.

Ought to bring this up now but since she was born and raised in Hell, though she sees the flaws, I feel like it might be a little bit hard for Charlie to see why Heaven wouldn’t want to make it better or bring the people there into Heaven.

Charlie’s song, while nice, has reminded me about this old fan idea people had about a possible future scene where Charlie sadly realizes that not EVERYONE could/should be redeemed. I thought I bring it up because I could see that coming up soon.

I think that is Blitzo in the scene where Charlie hitches a ride on the delivery truck. Speaking of which (looking at logo) :)

I didn’t bring this up in my HH S1 trailer breakdown because I didn’t think it was need, but now it is. TLDR I wonder if Pentagram City is now more like a “country” or all of the Pride Ring with towns and named areas acting more like states. Until we get an episode outside of it and into another circle of Pride (something referenced in Helluva Boss and the HH pilot trailer WAY back by Katie Killjoy) I’ll likely treat Pentagram City as the whole Pride Ring.

I think I brought this up before, but if there is a Heavenly emissary in Hell, then I wonder if there is one for Hell in the outskirts of Heaven? Could this building allow sinners to talk to people, like loved ones in Heaven? Something like this would be perfect for my OC Ratchet, as one of his goals is to talk to his deceased/murdered little brother again.

It’s funny seeing Adam eat, considering his mouth doesn’t look real and thus should work. Also yes I see Adam eating ribs, but I’m not making a joke about it because it is a bit cheesy.

Honestly we should have seen the hologram thing coming, since I bet no angel in Heaven (as of now) wants to be in Hell unless it’s during an Extermination.

IS ADAM FLIRTING WITH CHARLIE!!!! SOMEONE DO SOMETHING TO MAKE IT STOP!!!

Adam’s behavior here is making my “pre apple Adam being an immature child” theory look canon, don’t you agree?

I think we’re seeing the Lilith side of Charlie when she is pretend laughing.

Adam and Eve aren’t a thing anymore. I knew that was coming, but it is still a bummer to hear as it is predictable. No surprise but I wonder if they split after the Cain incident, as I’m starting to wonder if in this world, Cain was a lot like his father as he is now.

Though as 1D as he is, at least this makes Adam a good antagonist, unlike with Stella but that is getting WAY off topic. I do hope that Adam is just going to be the antagonist of this season, and after that he is either written off or given the Emperor Pilaf treatment and be demoted to a very, VERY minor threat. This way other antagonist could arrive leading to new challenges for Charlie and the others.

AGAIN SOMEONE DO SOMETHING, GET LUCIFER OR LILITH!!!

Charlie seems to be thinking like her dad when she tries to use Adam’s ego to get her project started.

Though mainly for laughs, I’m still going to guess that cameras, being on camera, or being watched/the focus of is going to have a connection to Niffty’s backstory. One really sad theory is that an older guy she liked was a stalker who eventually abducted her and showed her off to his friends and though Niffty eventually escaped and killed him, their struggle caused a fire to break out which would kill her too. This obviously messed her up and likely resulted in her obtaining something like Stockholm syndrome and having her mind regress to that of a child, explaining some of her personality quirks.

Just a personal thought, but I hope later on the writers will stop calling sinners as demons and just call them sinners or humans, as I feel like it is going to lead to problems later on. I mean what if one day we get a character that looks like a Hellborn demon but is actually a sinner… OMG LIKE BAXTER!

Al just being Al, which is still concerning. Heck even his “deal’ with Vaggie sounds like there is more to it, and I don’t mean that thing about how deals make people stronger. Then there is the way he said ‘your choice” though that could be the acting.

Some things here. The O on the Director’s chair is shaped like an eye which could be referencing Al’s cane or something else, Niffty refencing Marilyn Monroe, and the return of the characters outfits from “Alastor’s Reprise”.

Insert “Lute being prideful for not accounting that Lucifer is an angel” comment here.

So how would having a former sinner in Heaven be any different then how Adam acts? I bet it will be more complicated than that. I once brought up the idea of demons being scared of sinners because of their potential, so maybe Heaven has a similar thing? Maybe Heaven doesn’t know HOW to loosen restrictions to get more people or sinners into Heaven, as when they made the rules they didn’t have the foresight to make sure things could change with the times. I do recall a quote from the Bible that was about how souls couldn’t get into Heaven for a time until Jesus arrived and opened the gates. Heck there is another saying where Jesus DID get some people out of Hell which caused some quakes, maybe he coined the term Hellquakes. I wonder if a great sacrifice will have to be made in order to get worthy souls out of Hell? The Jesus thing also adds more to my idea of Jesus and Charlie being allies later in the series.

Though short, you can see during Adam’s song that Zhu Li, I mean Lute, does have a bit of a fun side deep down in that serious soldier personality.

Charlie is asking questions before I can type them down.

How high ranking is Adam in Heaven’s hierarchy if he can change the date of Exterminations? You think he would have to run that with other people like the archangels or seraphim.

After what she went through, it was nice to see Charlie happCOME ON!

This was going to come up eventually but I have mix feelings about Brandon Rogers being the new VA for Katie Killjoy. One main reason is that I personally see too many similarities between Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss (especially with the characters) and now having a VA from HB be in HH makes that list bigger. I also wonder if this decision was made as a kind of “damage control” since last time the character of Katie Killjoy was on screen she said something homophobic which got people angry, even though the series is in Hell and there are logically going to be people like that there. HOWEVER I understand why he was chosen, one being that he has played Katie Killjoy like characters already and I do like that they got someone that is easy to contact and has experience in such a role to do it then someone new. This has also strangely started making me connect Katie Killjoy to the Monarchs from the Venture Bros., like the daughter they never had who never went into costumed villainy (the news world can be evil though) which makes no sense but I LOVE IT anyway. I mean she acts like The Monarch but with a joke voice like Dr. Mrs. the Monarch, and the fact that she smokes and is insect themed just adds more to it XD.

AGAIN how did Adam get this through so fast? I wonder if Charlie will be blamed for this next episode? Eventually it will be revealed but I hope they do it sooner than later, as I do recall a screenshot of the Overlords talking about the Exorcist.

Also I feel like a line should have been added explaining that the upcoming Extermination will be worse than usual. I mean we the viewers know that but if it wasn’t for that Lute and Adam scene in the end, it would have looked like everyone is just panicking about something common happening earlier than usual. Maybe they do offscreen, going back to that Overlord meeting.

An angel drone? Is this a Sumerian mythology refence?

A dead Exorcist! Though not a surprise given it was spoiled via the trading cards along with it appearing MUCH earlier than I thought it would, it’s still interesting as now we have a mystery.

I find hard to believe that no one took down an Exorcist until now given how powerful sinners can be, but then again the writers seem to be making the forces of good/Heaven really OP which I’m not like that much. I don’t it would have hurt the story if it was revealed that while there are a few angelic casualties in every Extermination, the number has risen over the past several years which has now made the Exorcist army (not Adam because he probably sucks at his job and never noticed it) worried leading to the earlier Extermination plan.

It also seems that angels have golden blood, like the ichor in Greek myth. Looks like my headcanon of Heaven/Hell inspiring the various other myths of this world is canon!

This episode was a good starter for the season and series. While it feels a lot like another pilot at times, that is fine since it’s been years since the actual pilot, and the episode does add more new info to the series (a benefit of having a short season) like another glimpse at what Heaven is like and how they feel about Hell, along with adding in a situation that now effects everyone and can lead to future situations/interactions.

We also now have an interesting mystery going on about who could have killed that Exorcist. I think it’s likely going to be someone in Heaven wanting an excuse to attack Hell, I mean Lute really hates them so she could be the one or others suspects are that angel from the S1 trailer/was seen at the beginning of the episode and an old character of Vivzie’s named Roo who apparently represents all evil, and who people have been thinking is coming up soon. Heck maybe an actual demon like a goetia did it while trying to escape, or this was a result of accidental friendly fire? This is going to be fun.

The only negatives things about this episode are that I do agree that some of the new VAs, though talented, are kind of out of place for the characters especially Angels. I bet we will get use to them over time though. Then there are the very small things like how Adam has so much power to do things, and either changing a few scenes or adding a line.

I have one more theory I have to say before I end this. I think this whole season is going to be some kind of Heavenly challenge/test for Charlie. I wouldn’t be surprised if Heaven IS tired of Adam’s attitude especially when compared to how nice the daughter of Lucifer and Lilith of all people is, but they can’t discipline him given he is the leader of their army. This doesn’t help that they also see signs of a potential future threat coming up (likely why Lilith has been gone for so long) and think that Adam won’t be able to handle it, so some angels think Charlie should be the one trained to deal with this force while others think they should stick with Adam and just prepare for when he messes up. This is why the higher ups are allowing Adam’s early extermination to happen because they want to see if Charlie can handle this situation, along with seeing her skills at being a leader and most importantly see if she will still be her nice self in the process. If she fails then thing stay as they are, but if she passes then the angelic forces will give Charlie the chance to try and convince the forces of Heaven to go with her redemption plan, and demote/get rid of Adam as karma. Again it would be a way to get rid of Adam as a villain and have someone else fill in the role next season. Same for how the writers could use this to lead this to a bigger story like a GOW Ragnarök like reveal where Charlie finds out the generic “end of days” prophecy is a lie and the real prophecy says something big will come to destroy everything in Heaven, Hell, and Earth and it’s debated on if she could be the one destined to fight it and save everything.

This was a big review and there a still 3 episodes left so you want to keep up to date, give me a follow.

I continue to be amazed with your work😍 just when I think you can’t outdo yourself you prove me wrong again😭👌🏻💕 your latest ghost story (and the one before that w the virgin reader which I HOPE you consider writing a part two for because that cliffhanger had me crying 😂) once again gives so much life to this supportive, understanding and intense man you’ve made the character to be. Your take on him is literally my favorite ever in this whole fandom, I’ve definitely come to that conclusion by now. Not only do you really get the characterization so right, it’s also the way you create the feeling and the atmosphere of being loved by this man that’s so tangible through your stories. Both from the mental and physical point of view of the reader character in question. It’s amazing how you manage to translate those complexities to written word. Like I am 100% convinced that this man could fuck love all of the pain away if you give him the chance😩. He just gives off that brute energy, but once you get to the core of him he’s so eager and willing to be soft and caring for you🥲😩

(I am also currently halfway through the first part of your konig story and when I tell you the whiplash I got from going from soft and caring ghost to… that freak🫠🫥 I am both terrified and intrigued, I do love me a lil ol creep once in a while but damn that man is entirely in a league of his own 😳)

And YES he would definitely fuck and love your pain away. I love me some intense, gruff Ghost too (that's why I wrote and continue to write the medic stories and his pov) but I stand behind my headcanon of him as a man who takes full resposibility. He's distanced and cynical and cold to his enemies, sure. The soldier Ghost is not a role, it's part of him, he embodies war in full. But he doesn't have the emotional intelligence and capacity of a potato. He might be a little rough around the edges, run like a stray dog from attachments at first, but when he's there, he's there. When he settles... Damn, he really fucking commits.

And umm, you're not the only reader who has voiced their wish for a pt 2 to that Virgin story. It's on the to do list, sort of, but I can't promise anything 🙈

It's kinda funny how in my masterlist there's first the soft!König story with the summary "König doesn't want to hurt women"... and then under it lies this yandere dumpster fire. Like, I really split him into two different beings, didn't I. And now I hear he's also a colonel and that gives me a whole new (dilf!!!1) vibe... Good god, this game and my brain.

There will be more soft Ghost stories in the future and I hope they make up for the toxic perv that is my latest König. Thank you for this message, it's the sweetest thing! 🩷🩷🩷💋 It makes me so happy if and when I can give comfort/entertain people with my stories.

Underestimated Just Who I Was Dealing With

Word Count: 1,065

Warnings: Jealousy, unlikable POV character, brief body-shaming, internalized misogyny, pregnant character

Fandom: Ghostbusters

Pairings: Egon Spengler x Cathleen Paige Spengler

Well, now this was something completely different. I saw this clip from the show Criminal Minds. And it made me think of two things:

1. How many of Egon’s students signed up for his classes because they were interested in his epididymis?

2. How would one of these said students react in the universe where Cathleen-- Callie’s mother in my headcanon-- lived?

And if you’re curious, “Where The Cards May Fall” is the title of my Ghostbusters II If Cathleen Lived Fic. I imagine that this would be a scene deleted because they couldn’t find a place for it.

If you’re curious, I imagine Tonia to be played by Amy O’Neill... and she might turn up again if the plot bunny hits me.

Tonia Vidal sighed dreamily as Professor Spengler continued his lecture. When she had applied to Columbia and she had learned that he would be teaching there-- both parapsychology and engineering-- again, following the dissolution of the Ghostbusters.

Of course, that was how she first learned of him. As an awkward fourteen-year-old girl in Connecticut who had seen him on the local news one morning after he had apparently captured a ghost at a luxury hotel in Manhattan. Her bitch of an older sister teased her for being so smitten with the ‘Buster who always ducked out of view of the cameras, but Tonia felt that it gave him a mysterious air that was so goddamn sexy.

She found as many magazines and newspaper clippings with his face that she could, and pinned them up like her sister did with Danny and Donnie and Joey and Jon and Jordan. And she wasn’t too shy to admit that she would kiss them before bed every night.

Of course, she had to cut a certain someone out of a few of them... and used them for the cat’s litter...

Professor Spengler wasn’t what anyone would call “traditionally handsome”-- he had a hawk-like face and round glasses. And what he lacked in looks wasn’t exactly made up for in his personality. He seemed to be detached, even by professor standards. The only time that his face would ever light up was when he mentioned his wife and daughter.

Barf in my mouth, Tonia would think.

But there was just... something about him. She coined the term “subdued charisma,” because it was the best way to describe whatever it was that drew her to him.

Not to mention that voice of his...

That deep voice that she dreamed would say her name...

“You’re probably gonna want to write this down,” Professor Spengler advised. “I know that I shouldn’t tell you this, but I’m definitely putting this on the final.”

Tonia felt a warm flush in her face when she realized that his eyes had landed on her.

“I’m... only auditing this class,” she confessed, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear.

Even though he had worn the same, neutral expression throughout his lecture, Tonia thought that she could detect a hint of disappointment.

“Is anyone else auditing this class?” Professor Spengler asked.

From what Tonia could guess, eighty-five percent of the students in the class raised their hands.

What assholes, she thought to herself, even though she was the one to start the whole thing by bringing the fact that she was only auditing the class.

“Okay...” he murmured to himself. “Okay...”

And now she had upset him. Tonia made the decision that next semester, she would sign up to actually take this class.

Maybe it would make him smile.

Sure, she had collected the few pictures of him smiling, but he had always been smiling at that woman.

Professor Spengler opened his mouth as if to speak, but turned his head when he heard a knock at the door. He walked over to the door and looked out the little window. His face seemed to brighten up when he saw whoever it was, and Tonia had to suppress a groan.

She recognized that look.

Professor Spengler opened the door, ushering in a blonde woman entered carrying a platter of cookies.

His wife was a pretty little thing, though-- dressed in an autumn-appropriate blouse and jeans, and she was obviously very pregnant. Not to be rude, but Tonia wouldn’t be surprised if the woman’s water would break right there and then in the classroom.

Professor Spengler’s hand intertwined his wife’s, and he smiled. “Hi, Cath.”

“Hi, love,” she greeted with an even-brighter smile. “How’s your day so far?”

He leaned in and whispered something that couldn’t be heard by the class, something that made his wife laugh.

Though mellifluous and lilting, it grated on Tonia’s nerves like nails on a chalkboard.

Tonia stood up from her seat and loudly cleared her throat, taking Professor Spengler and his pretty, bland wife out of their moment.

“Oh, uh... this is my wife, Cathleen,” the professor introduced.

Cathleen waved to the class-- it was pretty clear that she loved the attention she was getting. She always struck Tonia as just as big of an attention whore as that Peter Venkman.

“I thought with finals coming up, and all the free time on my hands, you all could do with a homemade treat,” Cathleen addressed the class as they began to swarm around her to grab a cookie.

Even Tonia joined them, though she still scrutinized this interloper with a critical eye.

“Callie may have sampled a few before I dropped her off at school,” Cathleen said with a conspiratory tone.

“That’s fine-- looks like you made enough that there’ll be leftovers for my evening class,” Professor Spengler remarked.

The professor’s hand soon wandered over the great mound of his wife’s swollen belly.

“And how is our baby doing?” he asked with something in his voice that Tonia could only describe as... tenderness.

“She’s been kicking up a storm in there since my cab ride,” Cathleen rubbed her belly before placing her hand over his. “I think she’s hungry, and quite honestly, I’m starving.”

Professor Spengler laughed. “Now that you mention it, I’m a little hungry myself.”

“Maybe before you have to head to the lab, we could head over to lunch at that pizza place near the old firehouse?” Cathleen suggested.

“Sounds great,” Professor Spengler agreed.

Tonia bit back a scoff. Why did he act like everything that woman said was worth solid gold?

“Is it okay if I wait in your office?” she asked.

No, Tonia wanted to say. The professor’s office was for him to work and for him to meet with students who needed tutoring.

Like her.

“Of course,” he told her, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.

Cathleen turned around and looked at the class. “Well, it was lovely to see you all. I hope you enjoy the cookies-- good luck on finals.”

Tonia glared at Cathleen as the woman began her path towards the professor’s office. She snagged a cookie from the platter and continued her way back to her seat, taking a bite of the sweet once she sat down.

Even Tonia had to admit that Cathleen Spengler could make a damn good cookie.

Six of Crows Reread - Ch. 12

Now another Inej chapter!

Chapter 12: Inej

“The view from above was disturbing. The Dregs were outnumbered, and there were men working their way around their left and right flanks. Kaz had been right to keep their real point of departure a secret from the others. Someone had talked. Inej had tried to keep tabs on the team, but someone else in the gang could have been snooping. Kaz had said it himself: Everything in Ketterdam leaked, including the Slat and the Crow Club.”

Yeah, unfortunately for Inej, it was one person from their own team who leaked information...

“The cargo containers were stacked like a pyramid here. If she could make it up just one, she could hide herself on the first level. Just one. She could climb or she could stand there and die.

She willed her mind to clarity and hopped up, fingertips latching onto the top of the crate. Climb, Inej. She dragged herself over the edge onto the tin roof of the container.”

Damn, my girl’s willpower is certainly something! It would be so easy to just lie there and let herself die. Of course, Kaz wouldn’t let her just die, but you get the point.

I love how present her parents are to her, even though she hasn’t seen them in quite a while. They’re still present in the decisions she makes and in how she decides to conduct herself in the books. I think it’s also part of the reason why she sticks to her ideals so strongly.

“The rasp of stone on stone. Her eyes flew open. Kaz.”

He bundled her into his arms and leaped down from the crates, landing roughly, his bad leg buckling.”

I’ve seen in fics and I think maybe in headcanons too that the “raspiness” of Kaz’s voice is a sideeffect from the pox that he and Jordie suffered as a child, but I don’t remember if that is ever confirmed in canon or if that’s just something the fans came up with. If any of you guys know, please, drop a comment about it.

But also...OMG, he bundles her into his arms? Like, I know this is a life or death kind of situation but still? Inej being so tiny and being bundled into Kaz’s arms? I’m screaming!!?

“I don’t want to die.”

“I’ll do my best to make other arrangements for you.”

She closed her eyes.

“Keep talking, Wraith. Don’t slip away from me.”

“But it’s what I do best.”

He clutched her tighter. “Just make it to the schooner. Open your damn eyes, Inej.”

She tried. Her vision was blurring, but she could make out a pale, shiny scar on Kaz’s neck, right beneath his jaw. She remembered the first time she’d seen him at the Menagerie. He paid Tante Heleen for information – stock tips, political pillow talk, anything the Menagerie’s clients blabbed about when drunk or giddy on bliss. He never visited Heleen’s girls, though plenty would have been happy to take him up to their rooms. They claimed he gave them the shivers, that his hands were permanently stained with blood beneath those black gloves, but she’d recognised the eagerness in their voices and the way they tracked him with their eyes.”

Omg, I know we get his POV later in the book about how he felt in this moment, but I can just imagine him carrying Inej to the boat and being so freaking terrified that he’s gonna lose her because of Jesper that, although I do not condone how he treats Jesper later on, I definitely understand where he’s coming from.

Also, can we just appreciate how people in the Menagerie (but I am sure not only them) have the hots for Kaz Brekker? Like, we get throughout the books remarks about his haircut from Nina and about how he’s a “demon” from Matthias, but really, he just seems to be a good-looking 17 year old who a lot of people have the hots for.

“Talk to me, Wraith.”

“You came back for me.”

“I protect my investments.”

Investments. “I’m glad I’m bleeding all over your shirt.”

Oh Kaz, not the investment thing again! Of course, the poor guy is so emotionally constipated that he’s not capable to admit his feelings for her, but daaamn, that’s cold. But also, I appreciate how Inej is in the verge of dying and can still manage to be sassy with still sasses Kaz.

On another note, there’s this tiny thing here that reinforces what the book mentions later, where it says that Inej is always trying to salvage little pieces of humanity from Kaz and making him seen decent. By saying “you came back for me”, it’s almost like a “you care enough about me to come back” and then he’s like “Nah, you’re an investment” and it’s like damn it, Kaz! You can stop being an asshole for a second. That’s allowed, you know?

Anyway, that’s it for chapter 12. Next up, we get into Kaz’s thoughts once more!
