the high school reunion thing is so cute but now I’m also thinking about seeing him as a single person 👀 can you imagine going back to your highschool reunion and your old HS Best friend that you lost touch with after college is now this brooding 6’9 BIG MAN? my god
♤—Miguel O'Hara
—anon ur a genius.
🕸alternate idea to teenage miguel headcanons, you can read the first idea here!

you weren't really sure why you attended this in the first place, you didn't like half of these people during your years in highschool.
but you were free for the night, and it wouldn't hurt if you had a couple of free drinks and went home after
you didn't mingle much, just said hello to a couple of friends, catching up and engaging in small talk
it was fun for a bit, reminiscing on your time spent here, but you soon found yourself getting overwhelmed
you stepped out of the gym, deciding to take a breather in the hall, when you bumped into something
hard.
you stumbled a bit from the impact, but two hands rested on your sides, stabilising you
taking a few steps back, you apologised, and excused yourself, a little too embaressed to look up
"Ay, still as clumsy as always. No es sorprendente."
your eyes met his, and memories came crashing down on you
one person you've never expected to run into here, was your bestfriend, Miguel O'Hara
miguel and you met just like this, not too many years ago. you bumped into him so hard the two of you fell on top of one another
after that little event, you found yourself partnered with him for your biology class, and ever since you were inseprable
that was until he completely dissappeared from everyone's lives as soon as he started working for alchemax
those brown eyes you daydreamed about as a teenager were boring into yours, but you could swear they were now a little...reddish? something about him was different.
then you noticed it. everything was different.
you remember miguel as this scrawny, freakishly tall nerd with dark brown bangs covering his forehead, who barely even held himself together
not as...this.
the man who stood infront of you was nothing like you remember. his body has obviously seen some extreme changes—you were certain that his arm was bigger than your own head
it didn't help that he wore a tight black shirt, because you could see the ripples of his abs from underneath the fabric and because it tugged at all of the right places
his face was still as handsome and defined, but he wore his hair back, it was definitely a good look on him
you had always had a crush on miguel, but seeing him like this made your tummy flutter
"Miggy? What...how are you—"
he smiled, and you could swear you could see...fangs? maybe he got his canins sharpened or something.
"You look good yourself...too good." Just like him, you changed alot too, and you did put some effort into how you looked tonight. Just for a faint moment, you saw his ears turn pink, but you didn't think too much about it, there was alot of things to stare at more important than his ears.
"Its been a while since you saw me. Started working out is all. Are you leaving?"
His answer was too calculated. You haven't seen him in ages, but you know him like you know the back of your hand.
"Just taking a breather."
"Had enough already?"
"Oh, you have no idea. Most of them are even more annoying than I remember them."
He chuckles, running his hand into his soft hair. That feeling in your stomach persisted.
"Then do you want to get out of here? I only came because I thought I might see you. We could go to the bar. Talk there."
"What makes you think I wanna talk to you?" You jab a finger at his chest, and wince at the pain. Gosh, his chest was hard.
"We have alot to talk about," He flashed you another grin, "and I think I should buy you a drink. Make up for lost time."
"Oh fine, only if you're paying." You chuckle.
"...and you need to tell me what 'work out' that makes you turn into this."

HI, I LOVE UR WRITING SO MUCH!!
can u do something,like a oneshot Or something for heeseung where because of being an idol he can't date but he's also a hormonal man so he gets hot and bothered due to stress and other factors often but now it's gotten to a point where he can't concentrate, he needs pussy. So he tells his manager who pulls him aside one day to ask him what's wrong with him. Now the manager arranges someone (YOU) as a stress reliever for heeseung. U can continue the rest hehe:)
”The Arrangement.”
Tumblr media
Warnings: Idol HS and y/n, oral (fem receiving), reader is getting paid for sex, hints of rough smut.
“Heeseung, come on! More energy! Bring out Ethan Lee! Concert is in a few hours, we need everyone on point.”
Heeseung’s hands remained firm on his hips as he rolled his eyes and caught his breath. He was frustrated, angry, and disappointed, mainly because there was a lot of truth in the staff’s words, he wasn’t as lively or energetic…in fact, he was slacking.
“Yeah….got it. Can we do another take?”
The staff and creative director all nod and aired the track as the boys performed their routine. “Yes! Just like that! Keep doing that Heeseung!”
“Nice wink, Jake! Do that more!”
“Sunoo, more smiling!”
“Jungwon, tilt your chin down more on this part.”
“Nice one Niki!”
“Jay, too sexy! Tone it down just a tad.”
“Sunghoon, do that thing that the girls like, you know, lick the fangs. That drives them crazy, and we want them to go ballistic during the concert.”
By the end of the hour, the group had completed a lengthy six hour session, with only ten minutes to spare before hair and makeup. “Changeover!” the staff yells out, already herding the young men backstage.
“Heeseung…you good?”
“Huh?  Oh…yeah….”
“You sure? You seem to be out of it, I know it’s hard to get rest when we’re busy on tour…just a few more days and we can finally get a break.” Jake was always understanding, and normally he could guess the issue and provide the motivation as a resolve for everyone, including the eldest. However, this time…he wasn’t guessing correctly.
“Yeah…thanks.” Heeseung merely stated before changing into the first outfit. He wasn’t tired or feeling restless, maybe to an extent, but that really wasn’t the cause of his lack in performance. The man was yearning; hungry for a desire that could not be fulfilled by the pampering treatment of first class air tickets, the rising fame of popularity, or the lavish hotel stay. He needed flesh, and badly.
While it was customary for idol’s to keep things hush-hush as far as their personal lives went, it didn’t mean that they could indulge, so long as it never reached public sight or hearing. What with the frequent dates he’s gone on with many of the most well known female idols, some younger or older, the rigorous tour schedule had kept him from maintaining anything steady, and for so long he had been running dry. He wasn’t necessarily desperate, just needed the warmth and comfort of a suitable woman.
The concert ended, and as always, the group had served well and performed fantastically. The energy was thriving and the atmosphere was filled with screams as each member waved goodbye.
Finally, it was all done.
“Well…we got two more days here until we fly back. We gonna do anything?” Jake inquires openly as he high-fives each member.
“Niki and I were going to go try out this restaurant. They charge $300 per steak.”
“Oh I heard about that place. Don’t they have a year-long waitlist?”
“Manager got us in.”
Heeseung pretended to be asleep, propping his head against the window as his arms remained firmly crossed against his chest. His ears pricked up as he overheard the ongoing conversation inside the van.
After arriving at the hotel, everyone went into their respective rooms. As usual, Heeseung had a room entirely by himself, which he and the members were instructed to tell the fans that it was all due to chance of winning “Rock, Paper, Scissors” when in reality, the eldest of the group receives such privileges as customary within the industry. But for the sake of reflecting the bond and “softness” within their image, the company deemed it better to lie about the room assignments.
He tosses his leather jacket aside as it flops onto the chair backing. Exhaustion took over his entire body as he threw himself on the bed. His eyes slowly open as he reaches for his phone, half of his face still buried into the plush bedding as he explores his pocket and dig it out. There was no way he could spend another night alone, taking care of his needs by hand. WIth as many callouses he had, there was no way he could even make it feel natural or good, there wasn’t enough lotion in the world that could cover up and mend the roughness of his hardworking skin.
“We need to talk.” was all he types in before sending off the message.
A few moments pass before he hears the knocking at his door. “Well that was fast…Mr. Manager.” he softly whispers while lifting his body off the bed.
“Heeseung, what’s up?”
“Need you to come inside for a second.”  Heeseung nonchalantly spoke out as he turned and lazily plops himself on the couch. HIs manager followed closely behind and took a seat across, looking at the young man intently before raising the concern yet again. “Everything alright?”
“You really have to ask?” Heeseung peeks from under his elbow as he drapes an arm over his eyes. He really didn’t like to make eye contact when it came to the topic of girls and dating…and this wasn’t going to be any easier. “I need a woman…”
“.....you mean….a date?” his manager tries to confirm, before a snappy Heeseung gently corrects him.
“Not to date….I need a woman…I need skin…flesh…hair….and nails to dig into my skin with a feminine voice to scream out my name.”
“....so you want a prostitute?”
“NOT A PROSTITUTE!” on the verge of losing it, Heeseung sits up rather abruptly as he squares his gaze over to his manager. He really wasn’t trying to be impatient or unpleasant, he was in a vulnerable state of mind. No man should ever go so long without feel the pleasures of someone else’s body, especially someone who is constantly surrounded by all these pretty little fans that were filling his mind with all sorts of sordid thoughts….them with their perfect makeup, the sweet fragrances of their perfume and those damn long and elegant acrylic nails. Day in and day out, he’s surrounded by feminine energy, it all contributed to this sexual demise he was falling into. “I’m just going to put it this way….if you don’t find me someone that can keep their mouth shut, and spend one night with me, then I am going to lose it. I’m on the verge of doing reckless things, and I can’t control it. Just find me someone that isn’t a prude but isn’t desperate.”
The manager knew Heeseung well enough to know when the young man was on the road to destruction, this was one of them. The heat of anger coming from his eyes was enough to tell him what he had to do. The hardest factor about this thing is finding someone suitable, not only in appearance but in their manners; he’d have to be cunning and covert.
Five hours in, he nearly fell to the ground in defeat when suddenly…
“Excuse me, Sir?”
“Hm? Yes?”
“You dropped this back at the last walkway.”
“Oh!...Thank you….”
You turned to  continue on with your own business when the gentleman spoke out in haste, you had assumed it was because he wanted to thank you once again for returning his wallet, but the tune of his wording made you realize that that wasn’t the case.
“Young lady, I have a proposition for you…do you have a minute?”
…………………….
A half hour later, after an internal hesitant debate, you caved in at the young man’s offer. You weren’t the type to ever hook up with a random man, even an idol, but the fact that you had been running dry since your last break up over a year ago, and not to mention the exquisite monetary offer that would cover three months of your rent, which would leave you that much stress free from everything else going on. Your final year in college has been more demanding than the previous, so much that you had to quit your part time job, which left you struggling financially. All of this led to the perfect combination of desperation, sexually frustrated, and mentally drained. By the time he mentioned that a non-disclosure agreement would mandate that both you and the idol would refrain from exposing your identities, you accepted.
Expressing that you wanted to get it done and over with, the man took you to the lavish hotel room, the most expensive in your home country. You weren’t entirely sure how you felt, being taken to an extremely fancy hotel room to meet a young and handsome performer and spend one night with him…for sex. Should you bail out now?
“We’re here. Here’s the key card, it’s on the third floor, room number 306.”
You take the key card and paused, thinking for a moment if you should just tell him that the deal was off. But the subtle push over towards the elevator pretty much sealed your night.
You walked through the narrow corridor, staring at the gold engraving of the numbers on the key card. With a deep breath, you gently knocked on the door before inserting the key. “Hello?” you gently speak out as you open the door. The entire room was dimmed with a golden hue with no one in sight; the massive bed topped with goose feather pillows and comforter sets up an enticing welcome as you breach closer to the main layout.
“Well hello.”
You turned in haste upon hearing the deep voice from behind, and saw him. He was leaning back against the wall, behind the door panel side. No wonder you didn’t see him when entering, the wide door swing provided enough cover for him to remain elusive yet still having enough sight to observe how delectable you look. His manager outdid himself.
“Oh…hi…I’m sorry…my name is–”
“Y/N…”
“Y-yeah…”
The manager must have already texted the idol your name. You couldn’t lie, this entire thing was uncomfortable, and you were on the verge of backing out when the man started to walk over, stepping into the warm light. He had a handsome face, and was tall…very tall, but of all things that got to you, was the glaring look he had in his eye. He looked hungry, famished even, with the way he stroked his finger across his lips as he tilted his chin downard, arms loosely crossed as he took each step steadily.
“Um…I’m not sure…if I should–”
“You’re already here…might as well get it going.”
He grabbed onto your shoulders, proceeding to walk forward as he herd’s you backwards until your back meets the opposite wall. He really was hungry, and unfortunately for you, it was contagious. WIth the way his hands roamed all over our body, the way his mouth immediately latched onto your throat, and the way his fingers ripped your blouse apart, sending buttons flying all over, he was a demon tainting every sense of rationality in your mind and you loved it. Still, you were experiencing hesitancy, but the moment he peeled your bra down and began sucking on your nipples, leaving squelching kisses the soft skin on your mounds. “W-wait…”
He doesn’t respond. Instead, he drags you down onto the ground, pushing you back to lay you down, leaving you completely vulnerable. He had to be hurting with the way he was feasting on your body, so much that you wondered exactly just how long he had gone without it, and was it longer than you?
“I-I…” was all you could manage to stutter when he started to lift your skirt, ruffling it around your waist as he fingers the damask lining of your thigh high stockings. With a mouthful of your skin, he muffles his burning desire. “Stop trying to push me away…I’ve been hurting for so long.”
You ignored his words as you continued to create some distance. You were torn, he felt so good rubbing your curves but also made you feel scared with how pushy and forceful he was becoming. You nearly screamed out when the sudden warmth of soft, plush lips tenderly kissed your clitoris. Being so caught up with his mannerisms, you hadn’t realized that he dragged and tore your panties off, leaving you bare and exposed. The way his tongue circulated around and pressed in between the folds of your womanhood caused you to drop your hands to your side, no longer putting up any resistance. He kept going, licking and twirling his tongue around, making your head spin vigorously as he committed the only gentle act of the night, which was placing his hands on your inner thighs and pushing them apart as he buried his face deeper into your core.
You moaned out in extreme ecstasy, arching your back and digging your hips downward. You gulped down hard swallows as you try to catch your breath, but the sensation of his nose and mouth inducing the most pleasure you’ve felt in over a year had you inadvertently suppressing screams, choking on your own breaths.
“O-oh!...Oh my God! P-please!” You dug your fingernails into the floorboard, squinting your eyes shut as you gasped out your moans, he went in faster and flickered his tongue deeper while shoving it inside your cavity. Groaning out his pleasures, he growls as he thrusts it in and out. He closes your legs together, pressing them closer to your chest as he wraps his arms around your thighs, still slurping and thrusting his oral muscle. Propping his stature on the caps of his knees, he hugs your thighs close to his chest as he lifts your derriere from off the floor as he brings you closer to the edge. HIs face shoved in against your taint, his slick tongue going in and out at a vigorous momentum, the faint echoes of his cheeks slapping into you as the impact caused your body to shift up while he had you partially levitated did you in, and you screamed out your moans. With your thighs shook, lips quivered, and chest heaving, you laid restlessly as the hot stream of fresh tears escaped from the outer corners of your closed eyes. Your heavy breathing became a rewarding sight as he remained in his kneeling position, unbuckling his belt. A smirk creeps up on his face as he sheds off his attire, chuckling in a demeaning manner as he looks down at you, somewhat pitifully and yet adoringly.
“Oh pretty thing…the night is just getting started. Got a lot of pent up frustration in me, and unfortunately, I’m about to take it out all on you. Now…grab it…and scream out my name.”
……………………..
Days had passed since that night, and you still felt sore in between your legs. It was stingy, yet the pulsating rampage also reminded you of the greatest pleasure you had felt in all your life. Not even your ex-boyfriend, the one who was known to frequent the college campus girls, could even make you feel remotely as good. Must be an idol thing, either that or there must be something in the water in South Korea. Too bad you’ll never see him again.
You were making your way over towards the bus station ahead, when a large crowd blocked your way.
“Oh come on…” you tilted your head left, and right, all to find a small loophole within the bustling groups of young girls screaming their heads off and flashing dozens of pictures. You shuffled your way through, not paying any mind to your surroundings, when all of a sudden a young fellow dressed in black approaches you.
“Miss y/n?”
“Yes?...who are you?”
The man declines to answer, instead, he hands you a folded piece of paper. You unfolded it to read the contents, looking rather confused.
‘Hey pretty thing, you free tonight?’
Looking up, the staff member smiles as he points to the side, indicating for you to look in that direction. Turning your head over shoulder, you were stunned to see the man from the other night, the idol who violated you with his tongue and cock, had you begging for more until the wee hours of the early morning. It was him…
“Oh my God is he looking at me?!”
“No he’s looking at me!”
“Heeseung! Heeseung!”
All the girls waved and jumped, but the direct eye contact and small smirk told you of who he truly was looking at. He sends off a wink which had all the girls pool into an emotional and hormonal mess, leaving only you standing upright, with his eyes still looking directly into your own, he silently mouths out the words to you.
“My…pretty….thing.”

Unknown Number Part 2
the long anticipated part two to unknown number. enjoy!
Part Three is now up!
italics: y/n (unknown number)
bold: harry
(one day later)
HS: Hey, I haven't heard from you. Is everything okay?
HS: I know you're busy and everything, but maybe you feel differently after us talking?
HS: It doesn't have to be different. We can go back to just texting I don't mind.
(one day later)
HS: You're not avoiding me are you?
HS: June?
(one day later)
HS: I don't know what I did, but whatever it is I'm sorry.
HS: But I'm starting to get worried. Are you okay? Like safety wise? Cold shoulder I can take but I would feel awful if you were hurt or in danger or something?
HS: Can you at least let me know you're alright?
J is typing...
(twenty minutes later)
J: i'm fine
HS: Good!
HS: Did I do something?
J: no i just think i was served a cold dose of reality a couple days ago
J: sorry for disappearing on you
HS: It's okay.
HS: Would you be more comfortable if we just went back to texting?
J is typing...
J: maybe
HS: Maybe?
J: i...like the sound of your voice
HS: You do, do you? ;))
J: don't be smug!
HS: I'm not, I swear!
HS is typing...
HS: I like the sound of your voice too.
(later that evening)
Y/n stared down at her phone and wondered if she was the biggest asshole on the planet.
She was never supposed to know who H was. Sure, she'd thought about it, had stayed up for hours thinking about who might be on the other side of their conversations. But it was all guessing and daydreaming. Y/n never actually thought she'd figure it out. Or that H would stand for Harry. As in Harry mother fucking Styles.
The person Y/n had been texting wasn't some serial killer or internet troll or some random person. He was one of the most popular names in pop culture right now. And not only that, they were in the same vicinity for the next few months while Five Seconds of Summer opened for One Direction.
When she heard H's voice, when she realized H was Harry, Y/n ran. She high-tailed it back to the tour bus, shooting a quick text to One Direction's stylist to tell her she wasn't feeling well and if she could take care of her band. Y/n pretended to be sick for a couple days while she hid on the tour bus. No one questioned it, but she did feel a little guilty for not doing the job she was paid to do.
But what was she supposed to do? The potential for running into Harry was extremely high. Y/n had no idea what she would do if they spoke and he came to the same realization as she had. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to handle the disappointment on Harry's face when he saw her and knew.
Pursing her lips, she typed out a new message.
(ten minutes from the last text)
J: do you ever think about us meeting?
(five minutes later)
HS: All the time.
J: you do?
HS: Of course. I mean it's hard not to.
J: do you...think you'd ever be disappointed by meeting me?
HS: Uh no?
HS: Is there a reason for this line of questioning?
J: no not really. just curious
HS: Somehow I feel like that's not true.
J: i don't know
J: i'm not sure why i'm in my head about this it's not like we'll actually meet
HS: You really think that?
J: do you think we ever would?
HS: I don't know.
HS: But I think I'd like to. One day.
J: you don't even know me!
HS: I do though!
HS: And you know me too!
HS: Where is all of this coming from?
J: i just think we should be realistic
J: i texted you by accident and we've become like modern day pen pals or something
HS: So you...don't want to meet me? Ever?
J: it's not about want it's about practicality. i just don't think talking about us in that way is smart
HS: You brought it up!
HS: And what do you mean by us?
(fifteen minutes later)
HS: Oh, so you're gonna ignore me now? Real mature.
HS: You're the one who brought all of this up you know.
HS: But you're probably right. I know I've been bothering you, but I think you had the right idea. I think we need a little space.
Tumblr media
(one day later)
Harry was unreasonably irritated. Angry didn't seem like the right word, but nothing about his situation was normal.
June was technically right. This whole thing was ridiculous and nonsensical and completely impractical. There was no scenario where they would ever meet or...
Harry couldn't even think about it. Thinking about June like that...thinking about June at all outside of their messages was stupid. He didn't need to be thinking about her, about anyone that way.
So why was he so frustrated?
Maybe it was that June wrote him off so quickly and seemingly out of nowhere. It wasn't like they ever needed to talk about the obvious, which was that they'd probably never meet despite the fact that he'd grown fond of her. Harry was perfectly content to talk about whatever popped into his head or June's latest Tinder date—though that topic was slowly starting to grate on Harry for reasons he refused to admit. Now it was a jumbled mess.
With his head bent, Harry walked toward craft services. He pulled out his phone, looking at past conversations and willing himself not to send another one. June hadn't responded to him since his last message, and he wasn't sure how to feel about it. On the one hand, it was what he'd asked for, but he still was itching to talk to her. Harry had grown used to expecting a quick response, had enjoyed June's wit and charming personality with each message she sent.
And now it was all weird and Harry's emotions were all over the place.
"Oof! Hey, watch where you're going!"
Harry glared down at the young woman who'd bumped into him—or who he'd bumped into, but he was too caught up in his own world to realize it. The young woman's eyes widened in shock as she stepped away from him. She opened her mouth as if she was about to speak, but nothing came out. Maybe a little squeaking.
He'd seen her around before, but not much. Honestly, these days Harry was usually holed up somewhere on the bus or at the venue texting June. But he'd seen the back of her head as she scurried around, or at a table on her own during lunch as she scrolled on her phone. He was pretty sure she was Five Seconds of Summer's stylist, but he didn't know for sure.
Raising his eyes at her expectantly. Harry waited for her to say something. "Sorry," she said, barely said. She was so quiet, Harry could hardly hear it. She looked scared of him, which made him feel bad. He was in a mood, but he didn't want to make anyone feel terrified of him, and this girl looked like she was about to cry.
He tried to apologize, but she scurried off before he could. Harry watched her go and sighed. He couldn't wait to get onstage and forget about June and the texts and all the ways she made him feel things he wasn't supposed to feel.
(later that night)
HS: Are we okay?
J: i don't know
J: i think so
HS: I feel like I'm going crazy.
J: how so?
HS: All I've been able to think about is our last conversation. I don't want to not talk to you.
HS: Can I admit something?
J: of course
HS is typing...
HS: I want to hear your voice again.
(five minutes later)
HS: You know, for the first time I think I actually kind of sounded like a creep.
HS: I didn't mean it in a creepy way I promise.
J: i know what you meant
J: in every other circumstance it would raise a red flag
HS: But this time?
J: i think i just want to hear your voice again too
HS: Yeah?
J: i'm not going to say it again to boost your ego
HS: :((
J: you know, you say all the time that you don't date, but i have a feeling you like having your ego fluffed
HS: Who doesn't?
J: attention whore. that's what you are!
HS: That was mean >:(
J: i would like to make it known that i'm sticking my tongue out right now
HS: I'm flipping you off!
(five minutes later)
J: so we're okay?
HS: Yeah. We're okay.
Tumblr media
(one day later)
J: are boys always filled with energy?
HS: I would say 90 percent of the time. Why?
J: my clients are just...a lot sometimes
J: very nice but a lot
J: like the brothers i never asked for
HS: Aw. Are they getting on your case about your bad taste in men now too?
J: you're not as funny as you think you are
J: and maybe
J: they tease me about the constant beeping of my phone. they want to know who i'm texting all the time
HS: And what do you say?
J: that i'm texting my boyfriend
J: i feel like it keeps them at bay
HS: Boyfriend huh?
J: oh hush
HS: Don't tell anyone, but I like the sound of that.
J: don't tell anyone but i do too
(two minutes later)
J: i feel like we're wandering into dangerous territory here
HS: Maybe.
HS: I'm not as bothered about it as I thought though.
J: no?
HS: Are you?
HS: Sorry. You don't have to answer that.
J: that's ok. i just don't know how i feel
J: not a cop out just the truth
HS: I believe you. Will you tell me when you do know?
J: of course
(later that night)
J: how does one acquire a new mother?
HS: Typically through divorce.
J: that won't work. my parents are miserable people together. kindred spirits
HS: what did she do this time?
J: it's stupid
HS: Not if it made you upset.
(ten minutes later)
HS: June?
J: sorry i was crying
HS is typing...
(one minute later)
Y/n's eyes widened at the incoming phone call on her screen. She knew she shouldn't have told him she was upset, but she needed someone to talk to, and somehow H had become the person she confided in.
Even then she didn't expect Harry to call her.
Hesitantly, Y/n picked up the phone. "H—Hello?"
"Why were you crying, June?"
"I'm fine, H, I promise—"
"No, you're not. I can still hear it in your voice. What's wrong?"
"I..." Was their first conversation really going to be her crying to H about her family drama? Y/n knew perfectly well that he probably had a million other things he could be doing. She was aware that both bands typically went out after shows. The boys of Five Seconds of Summer had tried to persuade her to go out numerous times, but she had yet to take the bait. Y/n was perfectly happy to lay in her bunk and text H, who she now realized might have been in a bunk of his own a couple buses over. The thought made her stomach feel fluttery and nauseous at the same time.
"My mom posted on Facebook about one of my cousins who just got married," Y/n explained. "And she said, or commented, or whatever that she was, 'so happy' and 'so proud' of the 'daughter she always wanted.'"
"Oh, June, I'm so sorry."
"It's fine, I swear it's fine," Y/n insisted, but even as she said it, she felt more tears begin to leak from her eyes. "I knew she was disappointed. Marriage is a huge deal in my family, and I didn't want—She called her the daughter she always wanted. What kind of mother says that?"
Y/n knew she was something of an outcast in her family, but she never thought her mom would say something like that, and so publicly. Facebook was her family's way of staying connected. This was a message for her entire extended family, not just Y/n.
"June, I—I don't even know what to say. That's horrible," H said.
"And you know what's the worst part?" Y/n asked. "Deep down I can't help but wonder if I should just settle down and get married like she wants me to because really, what am I doing here? I've been trying to make my way in this industry, but at what cost? My family has all but disowned me, I hardly have any friends because I live in a new town that just eats up my meager paychecks, and—"
"Hey," H said gently. "Do you really think you'd be happier back home with...with a husband at, what? 22?"
Y/n sniffled and rubbed her eye. "Probably, not, but—"
"And do you want this?" he asked.
"I thought I did."
"June. Do. You. Want. This?" he repeated.
He was the only person Y/n would admit it to. "I...I really do, H."
"Then go for it," he said. "I believe in you. In a year or two, everyone is going to want to work with you. You'll be the one turning people down."
"If only."
"Hey, that's not the voice of a confident woman. I need to hear confidence."
"H—"
"No, I need confidence. I can't be the only one believing in you here," H said, which made you smile despite the tear stains on your cheeks. "Do you need me to shout it? Because I will. Don't think I won't."
Y/n tried to stop him, but H proceeded to shout—to whom, she wasn't sure—that she was the best stylist and that she was the coolest person he knew and all sorts of nonsense that made her giggle and continually tell him to shut up.
"Okay. That's enough! Harry, that's—"
She stopped immediately. It was a slip of the tongue. Y/n had gotten caught up in the moment and his name just...it just came out. Her heart stopped and her hands began to shake, nearly making her drop her phone in her lap.
Y/n prayed that he missed it, that amidst all the laughing and shouting, H didn't hear it. But the minute his name left her lips, it was dead quiet.
"How do you know my name?" he asked. His voice wasn't lighthearted anymore. It was stone cold, closed off.
"I...I don't—"
"You do. You just said Harry. How do you know me? Have you known the whole time?"
"No! I didn't—I don't—"
"I can't believe this. I can't believe that I...that I let myself fall for this. You—You lied!"
"I didn't lie! I swear, I never—I never knew anything until..."
"Until what?" he shouted, and you flinched.
What was she supposed to say? That they were on tour together? Harry would definitely think she stalked him then. He was so angry, there was no way he would listen to reason right now.
"Until what, June?"
"I'm so sorry," she said, her voice just above a whisper.
"Don't try to contact me again, or I'll call the police," he said harshly before hanging up.
Y/n could only stare down at her phone in disbelief.
Tumblr media
(two days later)
Y/n decided to spend her days perusing thrift stores. Hiding, really.
Her first-ever clients as a stylist were pretty low-maintenance. When she met them for the first time and saw their scuffed-up sneakers and ripped jeans, Y/n knew she wouldn't be stretching her creativity pretty far. But her job was to find clothes that represented her clients' image, which was exactly what she did.
While everyone else on tour was doing who knew what, Y/n went to local thrift stores in search of vintage t-shirts and good quality jeans that would be easy to move around him. One time, she came back with a pair of gorgeous leather boots that she thought would be perfect for Luke, but he said outright that he wouldn't wear them. Boys, honestly.
It wasn't much, but they appreciated when she came back with cool band and graphic shirts. She sewed up holes and ripped new ones when she was asked. Y/n felt like Snow White sometimes, and the boys were her dwarfs, but they were nice and funny and kept her distracted, which she needed right now.
She was in a small thrift store in Oregon, a couple pieces on her arm—two flannels, a baseball tee, a t-shirt with Kurt Cobain on it, and a couple leather bracelets. Now that she'd been on tour with the wonderful members of Five Seconds of Summer, Y/n had an idea of what each member liked. They had very similar styles and often shared the clothes she picked out for them—which honestly made her life easier considering her smaller-than-small budget.
But she still thought about H, of course she did. There were times when she felt compelled to go up to him at the concert venue, or even his tour bus, but she feared that would just make things worse. He already thought she was a stalker, she wasn't going to make it worse by just...appearing right in front of him.
She didn't know what to do, but not doing anything made her heart hurt. Not talking to him made her heart hurt. Y/n couldn't believe that this was how their text friendship turned out. Of all the ways she imagined this thing ending, having Harry block her number and him virtually hating her.
"Just this today, hun?" the woman behind the counter asked when she brought the clothes up.
Y/n nodded. After her major slip up, she hadn't done much talking. She felt like a ghost, floating from place to place without a word until she could go back to her bus bunk and look at old messages. Y/n didn't really want to be on this tour anymore, but she couldn't bring herself to quit. She didn't have the energy.
Back at the new concert venue, Y/n went to the boys' dressing room. They crowded around her as she showed them the shirts and bracelets. "I can cut up the sleeves on some of them if you want," she said quietly.
"Really?"
"That'd be awesome!"
"Maybe a couple holes around the neck?"
"Do you think you could write 'IDIOT' on this one?"
Y/n had only been half-listening, but she looked over at Michael with her brows raised when he said that. "You want me to write what?"
"I don't know, I think it'd be cool. Don't you?"
All four of them looked to her at that. Since the tour started, the boys went to her for fashion advice. That was technically her job, but it felt like she suddenly had four younger brothers.
"Y—Yeah. Very punk rock. I'll get on that right now."
"You're the best, June!"
"I could kiss you!"
"Please don't," she said, shoulders tensing when they all squeezed her.
The four boys left her alone in search of food—because they were always hungry—and Y/n got to work. Or tried to. She was alone for all of two seconds before the door slammed open.
"Really? You fucking stalked your way onto this tour?"
It was the first time Y/n had seen Harry since the one time she bumped into him in the hallway a few days ago. Y/n thought he'd looked irritated then, but he looked downright furious now. His face was red and mouth turned into an angry frown. Y/n tried to speak, but she couldn't. She just kept staring at him, hoping the words to explain would come.
"I—It's not what you think—"
"You're sick! Sick in the head! I'm calling security. I can't believe this," he said, muttering the last part.
Sniffling, Y/n looked down at the clothes she was supposed to fix up for the boys. Her boys, she sometimes thought. She couldn't believe this was actually happening. Harry was in front of her, and he...he was calling security on her.
"You—You don't have to do that," she finally said. When she stood up, Harry stepped away from her. "I'll go. I swear. I know how this looks, and I know you won't believe me, but this is a coincidence. But...I'll go. You don't need to call security. I'll leave."
Y/n grabbed her things and the boys' clothes, not looking at Harry once. She couldn't handle seeing the look in his eyes. But she felt it. His glare burned his skin. She shuffled out of the room, head bent with her things in her hands. On her way out, she bumped into something. Someone.
"Woah, June. Is everything okay?"
It was Luke. He looked concerned, but she couldn't find it in him to explain. "I'm—I'm fine. I'm just going to finish this stuff up on the bus, okay? I'll have it done before the show."
Before he could say anything else, she left, trying to ignore what sounded like an argument starting in the room she'd vacated.
Tumblr media
(three hours later)
Y/n was still on the tour bus fixing up the boys' clothes and waiting until it was time for her to leave for the airport. She knew she should've left right away, but she wanted to do this last thing. One last thing, and then she would be gone. It was almost time, and she'd finished cutting up the shirts, now she just needed to write the word 'IDIOT' on Michael's shirt. It was very fitting, Y/n felt like an absolute idiot for ever letting things get this far.
Still, she couldn't help but form a little smile as she sketched out the letters with a pencil. This job wasn't necessarily what Y/n had wanted, but it also wasn't what she initially expected. She liked the 5SOS guys, and she had to admit that there was something adventurous about going to a new city every few days. The point was, she liked it more than she thought she would, and now it was over.
(thirty minutes later)
Harry had been standing in front of the crew's tour bus for ten minutes. He wasn't sure if she was there, and he wasn't sure if he wanted her to be there. But he was standing in front of the bus door anyway, trying to decide if he was going to knock.
He'd been furious. Furious and alarmed and freaked out. When he'd gotten the first text from June, Harry immediately thought that she was some crazed fan who had somehow obtained his number. He slowly realized that wasn't the case, or so he thought. June had been lying this whole time, and not only that, she managed to become a crew member on tour.
When he heard her voice outside Five Seconds of Summer's dressing room, Harry was floored, and then he was scared, and then he was angry. Why couldn't people just leave him alone? It wasn't enough that he performed and gave all these little pieces of himself to the world. Why did everyone expect to give over all of himself?
And he talked to June about that at length, and he thought he was confiding in her, he thought they were sharing with each other. But she was...she was just lying to him.
And yet, she was still June. Months of texting and everything he felt didn't just evaporate because he discovered the truth. She was funny and charismatic and seemed to really like him, and he liked her too. A lot.
It was why he was at the bus. Harry wanted an explanation. He deserved that at least.
It took about a minute for the door to open after he knocked on it. She peeked her head out, watery red eyes surprised, and a little scared, to see him standing there. Mixed emotions flared in Harry's chest at the sight of her. Something squeezed his heart at finally putting a face to all the messages, to the girl he couldn't go more than a day without talking to. June was very pretty with a thick head of hair, high cheekbones, and pouty pink lips. Her nose was red, as if she'd been crying, and the part of Harry that cared about his friend hated seeing her like that, hated to know that this was how their first meeting was turning out. Harry had daydreamed about meeting June for the first time many times. A lot of times. None of his daydreams looked like this.
"Um, I promise I'm leaving. My flight is later tonight, and I just thought—It doesn't matter, I'll go."
Harry had met a good number of crazy fans over the years, and while he knew June was one of them, she seemed rather subdued. Instead of jumping him at any possible moment this entire tour, she minded her business and didn't try to talk to him once. Maybe he was believing in something he wanted to believe, but June didn't seem like the crazy stalker fan that she was.
"I want to talk. I want an explanation," he said.
June nodded, not opening the door any further but reaching her hand through the small crack. "I wrote it all down. I was going to give it to someone to give to you. It was the least I could do."
She didn't even want to talk to him? Was this all just an act to gain his sympathy? There was no way of knowing. If this was all one big con, June was a very good actress.
Harry took the note from June and unfolded it, reading it carefully.
H,
I just want to start off by saying that you have every right to be angry, I understand that I have betrayed your trust. And I have betrayed your trust, just not in the way that you might think.
I found out who you were a few days ago, it was why I was avoiding your texts. I'd overheard you talking to Michael and the other boys in their dressing room. It was right after we'd sent all our voice messages, and I just knew it was you who was behind the door. I couldn't quite believe it.
But I also didn't know how to tell you that I knew. I was shocked and confused...and to be honest I didn't know what to do with the information. I just...wasn't expecting you.
So I kept the secret for a little while I tried to figure out how to tell you, and...Well, you saw how that turned out.
I just want you to know that I had no idea who you were when we first started texting. I truly gave my number to some idiot that I slept with, and by some twist of fate, he gave me your number instead. I didn't want to text you, I didn't want to like you, I didn't...expect to share so much of myself with you. I know this is harder on you for so many reasons, and you are justified in not trusting me, but it was hard for me too. Part of me thought that if I told you and you saw me, really saw me, that you would be disappointed or not impressed or something like that. You mean meant mean a lot to me, and the thought of ruining our tentative friendship by us meeting scared me, so I foolishly thought I could avoid you the rest of the tour.
I'm sorry that you found out the way you did, and I'm sorry it caused you so much emotional pain. I know you probably won't trust anything I've said, but I hope this might help you understand. And with the hope that I don't come off as the obsessed stalker that you already think I am, I really did do like you, and all your secrets are safe with me, as I hope mine are with you.
All my love,
Yours,
Sincerely,
Best wishes,
June Bug
Harry looked read the letter once, then twice, then looked up at June, who was still hiding behind the bus door. It had closed that much more, like she was trying to shut him out.
He knew he had a right not to trust her, and part of him still didn't. But another him was pushing her toward him, drawing him to her. His gut was telling him to hear her out, that she was the June Bug from all of their messages.
His show was in a little over an hour. He had last minute things to do and pre-show rituals to complete, and he knew that people would start looking for him soon. But he didn't want to go.
"Can—Can I come in?" he found himself asking. "To talk?"
June's brows raised, like she wasn't quite expecting Harry to ask her that. Which was a valid thing to think, of course, but now he was hoping she would let him in. Or send him away so they could avoid a difficult conversation.
"Sure. Are you—Are you sure?" she asked him, thick brows furrowing. Harry would've found the wrinkle between them cute if it wasn't for the situation.
Was he sure? "Y—Yes."
Nodding, June opened the door further to let him inside. Harry's hand brushed against hers on his way past her, and she immediately recoiled. He ignored it, and looked down at her for the first time. Really looked at her.
She really was beautiful, there was no denying that. June had a kind face, one that held so much emotion in it. Harry felt like he could read every little feeling as it flitted across her face. And right now, she was looking at him like one word out of his mouth could make or break her. Unable to handle that kind of pressure, Harry focused on a little scar that cut into June's brow.
"Um, so obviously you're familiar with the layout of the bus. Do you want to sit at the couches in the back? Or the tables here, or we could just stand—"
"The couches are fine," Harry said.
“O—Okay. Couches it is."
June turned around and headed for the back of the bus, strands of her hair swishing with each step she took. Harry followed, wondering if he'd just made a huge mistake or was taking a risk worth taking.

⬇️ translation under the cut ⬇️
(door opens)
E: I’ve kept you waiting, Kazui.
K: It’s been a while, Warden-kun.
E: Yeah… It has been.
K: Things have gotten pretty tough inside the prison, but… well, you’ve probably heard all about that from the others already, haven’t you?
E: Yeah… I heard that you protected other prisoners from Kotoko. I owe you my thanks.
K: That much is only natural. However… she really is strong, isn’t she? I mean, I’ve experienced some fights myself, but [going up against] a woman like her was a first.
E: Hm… Is she strong enough that even you can’t stop her from doing harm?
K: Well, in cases like this, it’s generally the heavier person who ends up winning. After all, if she really does have proper killing intent, I can’t afford to let her injure anyone. It’s difficult, isn’t it.
E: Is that so…
K: I was afraid that it’d come to this from the very beginning. There’s a lot of young kids here, too. It’d be hard for anyone to keep a decent mentality in a situation like this.
E: …You’re pretty rational.
K: I wonder. Maybe it’s because I’m used to violence. Even so… I couldn’t make it for Shiina-chan. I feel responsible for [what happened to] her.
E: …
K: Well, rest assured, though. As long as I can move, I’ll be protecting [the others]. After all, it’s pretty much just me who can fight her on equal terms.
E: Mikoto, too.
K: Ah… yeah. Like back when he went out of control, right? I can’t quite read him, though… If both of them were to attack us, it’s possible that we’d suffer a total defeat.
E: A total defeat…?
K: If that happens, this prison game would probably come to an end as well. All of that depends on your judgment, right, Warden-kun? Who will be forgiven by you and who won’t be…
E: What are you trying to say?
K: If at all possible, I would like you to choose a method that will not get any more people hurt. That’s what I’m saying.
E: So you’re telling me to forgive you?
K: (laughs) Oi, oi…! Don’t look at me like that.
E: I’m the Warden. If I forgive you, I forgive you. If I don’t, I don’t. There’s no other factors to it.
K: (sighs) Wouldn’t it be okay? I mean, this situation with prisoners being hurt wasn’t what you wanted either, was it?
E: …
K: Just pretend that you’re looking at our sins, and make your judgment with the protection of the prisoners in mind. After all, nobody can read your mind – so that much craftiness would be fine, don’t you think?
E: Hmph. That’s a very “you” kind of pretentious solution.
K: It’s the most natural conclusion, isn’t it? Do you think it’s a sin to lie in order to protect people?
E: That would be Kant.
K: Kant?
E: A philosopher who stated that lying is inherently a sin, no matter the circumstances.
K: Huh…
E: Apparently, even if your friend is being chased by a murderer and the murderer asks you about their whereabouts, you shouldn’t lie, according to Kant.
K: That’s ridiculous. If you can save someone by telling a lie, that’s what you should do.
E: However… You killed someone with your lies, didn’t you?
K: … Ah… You forgave me, didn’t you? Aren’t you being especially strict towards me?
E: Am I?
K: Mmh, it’s obvious. You said you would figure out my murder by watching the footage of my mind. Is this the result of that?
E: You were unfaithful, right? That’s stupid.
K: Hmm…
E: The reason I forgave you was because I was lacking details. I still don’t understand your true feelings or how things got to that point, either.
K: I see.
E: It was extremely hard to understand. Even with all of that poetry, though, your self-absorbed nature was more than obvious.
K: Ohh my… That’s quite the sweeping generalization, even though you forgave me.
E: It’s a personal dislike of mine. People who act based on their sexual urges like that, that is.
K: It’s personal?
E: Yeah. That’s right.
K: That’s strange. I did think that, despite being neutral as a Warden, you had some things you dislike, but…
E: …
K: Isn’t it unusual to openly reveal a personal dislike as a personal dislike?
E: You’re splitting hairs.
K: Seems like you really disliked my crime… I get it! Maybe it was because you’re so young, which is to say… …
E: Hah? Stop staring at me so openly. It’s disgusting.
K: …
E: …! (punches him)
(clattering)
E: (sighs) Now I feel better.
K: — Ow…! What are you doing all of a sudden…?!
E: It was an instinctive reaction. Don’t take it personally.
K: Would you stop just punching me in the face without hesitation? … (sighs) Anyways… that’s how it is, huh? That’s how it is…?
E: Hah?
K: I didn’t even consider this a possibility… Personal impressions sure can be scary.
E: If you say any more things than this that I don’t get, I’m hitting you again.
K: Geez, cut out the hysterics… Hmm, if it’s like this, that explains some things, though. I don’t have kids, but I’ve heard that this is what it’s like.
E: Hey. Stop blabbering on while looking like you know it all. It’s obnoxious.
K: Hahaha! But you know what? You’re wrong.
E: …? What are you talking about?
K: You’re wrong.
E: …
K: You said I was unfaithful – in other words, that I cheated or committed adultery of some kind.
E: Yeah. That’s what I deduced from your footage.
K: It’s not true. It didn’t even turn into infidelity. It didn’t turn into anything like that. For me… In my case, you see.
E: … You’re married… You’re a married man, aren’t you?
K: Hm? Yeah, that’s right. Oh, right, I never told you, did I?
E: You’ve taken off your ring.
K: … Right… I did take it off, huh. Right…
E: Yeah.
K: Mh. … I do carry it with me, though. See? – I was forgiven. My feelings were validated. So… maybe that means that I don’t have to do this anymore? Thanks to that, I was feeling better when the second trial started… I really do feel sorry about that. Towards my wife.
E: If that ring is a symbol of punishment to you… There really is nothing that could possibly be more cruel towards her.
K: Mmh.
E: Marriage is something that both partners want equally, isn’t it? It’s something you can’t do if only one person wants it. Deciding to treat it as a punishment all on your own… You’re making a mockery out of it.
K: I really am. Ah… She must have thought so as well. My wife, that is.
E: I’ve said this before: You’re a liar. Those lies have killed a person.
K: (sighs)
E: I forgave you. While I wasn’t sure yet, I thought that it didn’t seem like you killed her directly, and with all sorts of things taken into consideration, I judged that your murder was not a sin. However. That doesn’t mean that I’m praising your nature as a liar.
K: Yeah. I believe you’re right about that.
E: In short – between love and hate, [I would say] I hate you. Remember that.
K: … I get that.
E: Huh?
K: I despise myself for lying, too. Being a liar, you see – it’s painful.
E: Heh. Then just–
K: So I’ve tried to change! I’ve tried to change. I have tried to stop lying to myself and others!
E: …
K: I’ve confided in others. I’ve tried to be myself! I’ve tried to just be the way I was born!
E: …Hey, Kazui–
K: It’s not my lies that killed her. She’s dead because I stopped lying to her! If I had just kept lying- She wouldn’t have died…!
E: Kazui…
K: I can’t live unless I lie. That’s how I was born… I’m pathetic, aren’t I?
E: (sighs) I really can’t seem to understand you.
K: …
E: Just when I thought you weren’t letting out any of your true feelings and cleverly hiding your actual emotions… Now here you are, drowning in self-loathing like this.
K: (weak laugh) An old man in unstable condition… that’s not something you’d wanna see, is it. Sorry about that.
E: You know, about Kant…
K: Ah, the one who said you shouldn’t lie even if your friend might get killed.
E: From his point of view, if your friend dies because you didn’t lie, there’s no causal connection between the two… or so I’ve heard.
K: I don’t think so, though…
E: Even if you don’t lie, your friend might survive. And if you do lie, your friend might end up dying on a different occasion. That’s the reason why you’re supposed to always tell the truth.
K: …That’s convincing.
E: It’s not really.
K: Yeah, it’s not.
E: It may not be, but… I thought that for someone who has failed in their attempts to be honest, it might be a [saving] grace so they won’t end up doubting honesty in its entirety.
K: …
E: I still don’t know what happened, but… isn’t it okay to be proud that you made an effort to be honest in the first place?
K: … You’re so kind all of a sudden.
E: I just said what I was thinking. And besides – I forgave you. I made it as if your sin wasn’t a sin at all. And yet, you don’t seem the slightest bit relieved.
K: I know right.
E: Everyone else seems more or less liberated by the fact that they were forgiven.
K: That’s right.
E: Just from that… I understand that having your feelings approved of by someone else can have a major impact on the development of one’s personality.
K: …
E: However… You have not forgiven yourself. That’s why you can’t change.
K: …
E: Alternatively, even if your lying self was forgiven… it would still do nothing to help you.
K: …Aah, you really are impressive. You think so much.
E: I am watching over ten troublesome prisoners, after all. Even if I don’t want to, I’m being relied on.
K: I haven’t forgiven myself… even if my lies are forgiven, it won’t resonate [with me]. It might just be both of these. All the lies I’ve told are tying me down. Ever since I was little, I’ve never truly opened myself to anyone. But in the end, people can’t be saved if they don’t [open up]. And by now, it’s gotten to a point where I can’t do it by myself anymore…
(machinery whirrs, bell rings)
K: I did think Milgram would be able to force its way past that, though.
E: Is that an attempt at provocation?
K: You didn’t manage to reach my sin.
E: …
K: Even though I want you to… Milgram isn’t so great after all, is it?
E: …Heh. Don’t push yourself too hard, after all that whining from earlier.
K: Ha. [This is] the wish of a liar who’s reached a dead end – come and figure out my lies, Milgram. And, Es… please, free me from these lies.
E: Yeah. Leave it to me. – Prisoner no.7, Kazui. Sing your sins.

Pairing: Joel Miller x reader
Summary: After months of dancing around your feelings with Joel, it comes to a head. And his reason for avoiding you comes as a surprise.
Warnings: MDNI 18+; suggestive content, no actual smut (yet?), potential for part two, which would be afab reader, since that’s all I can really do justice/know first hand, but no descriptive qualities as far as looks. Jackson era, swearing, age gap (32 and 56). Let me know if I missed any.
A/N: Be gentle on me- I haven’t written much and not in SO long. And none for Joel.
Also rapidly realizing that despite taking so many honors English classes in HS and college, I really know fuck all about correct paragraph format and present/past tense, omfg.
Lemme know if you want the smut and I’ll make a part two lmao.
Joel is avoiding you.
You know it. He knows it.
And you know why.
You’ve been dancing around each other for days now. Ever since all of the lingering glances and brushing of arms came to a head and you grabbed his thigh in the shadows of the Tipsy Bison. Encouraged by his low lids and your even lower whiskey glasses.
He stopped breathing, and when he realized himself, he jumped like he’d been burned. Muttering some excuse before darting from the bar.
You weren’t sure whether to laugh or to be embarrassed. But why be embarrassed when you knew how he actually felt? You could see it every time he looked at you with those dark eyes. Did he think he was being sly?
Months of the spindly fingers of your dry humor and wit, selflessness and competency that he so admired, worming its way through the splintering cracks of his walls until, without him even noticing, they shattered completely.
But you were too fucking young. He could’ve been your dad, for fuck’s sake.
You couldn’t have been more than your early thirties, at most. He was afraid to ask. At 56, he had no business looking at you in any form other than just his patrol partner. At most- a friend.
But fuck, it had been so long. Maybe that’s all it was, right? But even with Tess, he’d never felt like this. That was friendship- the sex just a means to an end- a way to escape. With you… he knew it went beyond just physical attraction. If he said it didn’t, he’d just be lying to himself. It was all of you.
It wasn’t his fault that he liked when you shot a clicker in the head without even an afterthought. Or that you could put someone in their place while being respectful at the same time. That you could teach him new things without making him feel like a stupid old man.
It wasn’t his fault that you could catch him off guard and make him laugh like he hasn’t in years. Or that your eyes sparkling in the Tipsy Bison twinkle lights made him stop breathing. And it definitely wasn’t his fault that he had to practically run from you so your wandering hand didn’t feel his thickening hard-on that came out of nowhere, like he was a fucking teenager.
It wasn’t your fault that he felt this way about you. But he had to be the one to stop it. Pretend like it never happened.
Which obviously you wouldn’t stand for. He should’ve known better.
As soon as you saw your name next to someone else’s on the patrol schedule for the following day, you decided that enough was enough. You gave him a few days to sort his shit out. It was time to give him a piece of your fucking mind.
———
Walking to Joel’s house was easy. Unfortunately for him, you were neighbors. Fortunately for him, you left your knives at home. You were fantasizing about stabbing him at this point.
Passing by Ellie’s lit up apartment you were relieved that she wouldn’t have to bear witness to your rapidly growing annoyance. It was beginning to fester into self doubt. Because fuck, what if you imagined how he felt and you basically assaulted him in public? Except you know that’s not the case. Right?
As soon as Joel opens the door you’re pushing past him into the kitchen.
It looks like he hasn’t done a dish in days. Flannels taken off after a long day strewn over the backs of dining chairs. Crumbs on the counter.
“Jesus, Joel, crack a window. What’s going on in here?”
Sighing your name, he rounds the corner after you. “Is there a reason you barged into my house?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because you’ve been avoiding me,” you huff, leaning against his counter.
“Dunno what you’re talkin’ about,” he averts his eyes, deciding that now is the time to tidy his kitchen.
“Don’t bullshit me, Joel.”
“‘m not,” he sighs, filling the sink with warm water.
“Yeah? Then why is now the time to do the dishes that have been sitting there for three days?”
Fuck. He knows you’re not going to let this go, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t try to avoid the topic for as long as possible.
“Joel, did I make you uncomfortable?”
His head snaps up, “what?”
That, unfortunately, was the furthest thing from the truth. He wishes it was so he could gently let you down and have you be on your way. Go back to the way things were before, before he knew what he was missing. Before he got addicted to you and you consumed his every waking thought.
“When I… touched you. In the bar,” you falter, suddenly feeling embarrassed. Second guessing everything. Because what if that’s actually what this was?
He decides to get it over with before this becomes any more unbearable.
“Christ. No, I wasn’t uncomfortable. That was the problem,” he grits out.
“I fucking knew it! I fucking. Knew it!”
“Listen-“
“No, you listen. I don’t know what your deal is. I get that we’ve both been through some fucked up shit in the last twenty years, and maybe that’s a huge reason for why you’re so closed off. Denying yourself something that you obviously want-“
He starts to cut you off, saying your name in a stern whisper, but you don’t let him.
“Let me finish.” Surprisingly, he lets you continue, a war waging in his eyes.
“I’m not asking you to marry me, Joel. I’m asking you to just be fucking honest with me. It doesn’t have to be anything serious. It doesn’t have to be anything at all. But I know you feel something for me.”
He’s gripping the counter so hard that his knuckles are turning white. His jaw ticks as he looks down into the sink, watching the little soap bubbles burst until he collects his thoughts enough to speak. You don’t realize that you’re holding your breath until he starts talking.
“I don’t… I don’t know what to do with this. I’m too-“
“Stubborn?” You suggest, despite yourself.
“Old,” he forces out.
Your eyebrows shoot into your hairline, because that is not at all what you were expecting him to say.
“What?”
He lets out a humorless laugh. “I’m 56. I’m way too old for you, sweetheart.”
You clench at the nickname despite wanting to throttle him. “I’m 32. Not 13.”
He groans. “Not helping.”
You lean away from the counter. “I thought you were avoiding this because you were like…” you flail your hands, trying to find the words, “emotionally fucked up, or something.”
He snorts, despite how flustered he feels at admitting his insecurities. “I probably am. But that’s not the point.”
“I’m a grown ass woman. We met as two grown ass adults, Joel. What are you afraid of?”
He clenches his jaw. He can’t meet your eyes.
You press on. “Are you worried about what society thinks? There’s an apocalypse, if you haven’t noticed. I don’t give a shit what Mrs. Johnson down the street thinks. She’s an asshole anyway-“
“Darlin’-“
“No. What’s the point in surviving if you stopped really living twenty years ago? You’re not dead. You deserve to do what makes you feel alive.”
He drags his eyes up to yours, leaning up from the sink. You think he might touch you, but he only faces you. Hesitant.
“Doesn’t bother you that I’m old?” He rasps, eyes low, inching closer. “Hm?”
“I think it’s kind of hot,” you say, smirking.
You shyly smile at each other. Letting it settle.
“We only live once, Joel,” you whisper. “I don’t want to be on my death bed thinking, ‘damn, I really wished I’d fucked that old man’.”
He barks a single surprised laugh at that, throwing his head back.
And you think he’s never looked so beautiful.

February CPNs
hello! it’s that time of the month again that i compile the sweets brought to us by the boys! this month started out very quiet but in this fandom will mean that things will take a turn in the next week/s. you just never know what will happen next. i have added some commentary here on certain incidents that i didn’t talk about separately on my blog to have “bonus content” for this round-up.
Tumblr media
• XZ’s GQ cover and collaboration sweets + additional ones connected to fake rumor
• not really cpn, but our boys continue to make it in the weibo hot search trend report - i still hate sina weibo but i understand how it’s relevant for them.
• XZ’s wedding suit from the AV festival. yes, this was made for him but we just had him wear that white backless wedding suit by jacquemus for GQ and now this? hmmmm. me thinks he has a preference? lol. he prefers white and that’s fine, but the choice of what looks like a wedding suit is 👀. i am on standby, let me see if this continues.
pair it off with WYB! and it’s perfect. tho i would prefer it if they are both in white. 🤍
Tumblr media
• xzs has the same caption as a cpf
• yibo’s watch and gg’s GQ props connection the number 91 and 3.
• chinese new year candies - gg’s weibo post, wyb’s red envelope cover clues etc
• rufeng shares new thailand fm rehearsal footage
• tencent video posting their new year vcr so close together! they could have easily posted it one after the other but maybe they didn’t want some solo fan drama. i’m happy that bobo continues to collab with 10c, and ZZ is not exclusive to 10c anymore— so hopefully this means in the future they can work on a project together <3
• clowning over XZ’s song in spring festival gala as you wish + same composer as wyb’s singles and how wyb was listening to a song from this artist lately.
• this parallel between their looks. it’s not just their characters that match each other, but their outfits from certain events. so classy!
Tumblr media
but i think this one is the best. seeing them get recognition for their acting in the past few months has been very rewarding. all the hard work and challenges are bearing fruit. remembering them talking about wanting to become professional actors and really take that path — studying and dreaming together. now here we are 🫶🏼
Tumblr media
• a cute tidbit, but the cat xz is playing with is called xiao wang. that’s because on it’s back looks like the character for wang! what a coincidence!!!! 🥹
• Bottled Joy stirring the CPN pot again by posting this on 2/13. As You Wish. The context of the post is that, as you wish — fans can get these wallpapers and photos of Bobo. but it’s a coincidence cause it’s the english title of the song GG sang @ BRTV Spring Festival Gala. 👀 the colors too, white and silver which is the same color combination of GG’s outfit. This may be meh to some, but knowing Bottled Joy’s cpn history, you can’t blame us.
• Golden Hour and Eason Chan songs @ yibo’s playlist
• Small weekend roundup - includes mention of asian pop magazines where the boys are both mentioned, supplement to xz using tickets for his spring festival photos last year as support of bobo’s movie and the phone card case appears.
• Rumor of Wang Yibo being in Hengdian - one / two / three ( i feel like this one is up there with the leica camera and gg’s bday cpn but this one is more risky on their part. as i have said in my posts, what is important is they are safe and happy. it’s their personal life. their relationship is between the two of them. as cpfs, we should be protecting them and not be people they are wary of. if we are not careful, we are no different from ss and yxh. )
• On 2/20, Yuehua & YBO have posted about the slander recently going around related to WYB and that they have reported it to the police. This went really high on HS and was widely talked about, even Du Hua reposted and reacted to it. Hours later, XZS has posted their own reminder to fans in relation to people disturbing his drama filming. What made it more important is that XZ reposted it too and put in a very firm reminder to everyone.
to give some context, the horrible rumor regarding WYB was spread around by mostly XZ fans. There was a melon that said “X” has STD and then toxic people started saying it’s WYB ( cause toxic xz fans doesn’t want it linked to XZ because of the clue given so they throw it to WYB. i know it sounds stupid, but it’s actually a common tactic done by both sides ) and even fabricated some photos. another actor, xukai was also implicated and he also reported to the police.
so this can be read by so/os as XZ&XZS trying to cover up for the toxic solos and what they did. i get why other people will think that and i personally wanted them to address the bad things his solos do. however i also understand why xz and his team can’t “betray” the solo fans. that’s just how it goes. however, in cpf interpretation, this is XZ’s way of taking away the heat from wyb and a way of putting a stop to the conversations about that horrible lie. it worked in a way that it went on HS, but not as high as WYB’s. I was also surprised that XZ reposted it himself. i am aware that the leaks and everything else is a serious issue and XZ is someone who hates being a bother to the crew. but he usually doesn’t do this. he usually leaves it to XZS or the drama account. This tells me that he personally wants to lend his name and his weibo account, to get more of the heat. The last line he said can also be a message to his toxic so/os: respect others and respect yourself.
• On 2/20, there were tarot readings some BXGs have enjoyed. One is this that is a new year CP reading done on 2/4. What made fans 👀 are:
1. this card, where OP said it’s them being hand in hand and don’t get tired of each other. and in the background is a sacred building, which symbolizes them having a vow to each other.
Tumblr media
more cpn was added into it when GG did MFW and people realized not to take this literally cause it could be representing the Duomo.
2. Here is the part that was v interesting to cpfs cause this person gave a prediction that followed what we cpn and happened in the next couple of days.
The two of them haven’t had many official activities recently. So from February 4th, there is a chance for the two of them to meet each other in the past few days. And as soon as the two of them meet, they won’t be going out. Yibo knows he is active but he will close up and be willing to hide at home for XZ.
this is so close to what we speculated! that they spent a quiet cny break together. 🥹🥹🥹
3. Next one is so on point it’s scary cause i have already discussed the bad rumor going around and was directed at WYB before this entry. OP was sort of right. tho i don’t know it this will be another hateful rumor, i hope not.
My prediction is that it will be in March 2024, around this time, I feel that WYB will have a a force of public opinion surrounding him. It's unfriendly to him. This power of public opinion including but not limited to WYB. If we use the 8 of Swords to understand the external environment, it is a relatively sharp. There is some public opinion about the two of them that may cause some trouble
If something happens to WYB, XZ will immediately rise up and have to rush out to protect him. XZ will work hard behind the scenes silently in his own way and are some practical actions.
I don’t think i need to further explain. It fits what happened in 2/20. 👁️👄👁️
4. WYB’s resources for 2024 will be very good. In the first quarter, the number of resources was not very large but the quality of the resources is very good. Then the Queen of Pentacles in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Queen of Cups.
For context: The Queen of Pentacles, therefore, depicts a certain level of success and prosperity. But the rabbit at the bottom cautions us that we should be careful of where we leap when we are chasing that success. Queen of Cups - Generally speaking, this is a positive card for both career and finances, suggesting you're "in tune with yourself, have a good work-life balance going on, and overall a positive job experience.
The reading is close to 1 hour long and I just can’t translate it all so i’m going off what CPFs are highlighting.
• XZ’s pre Milan flight Gucci & camcorder cpn
• Fake Rumors : getting caught kissing / spending time during CNY
• XZS first post in Milan is the invitation given to XZ by Tod’s for the show. Those who had the same time as Milan saw the actual time stamp which is 1823. A beloved kadian number!!!!!
Tumblr media
• xz’s collar and whole look for GUCCI MFW gave us so many thoughts. lol. i know sexualization of the boys is a complicated issue in the fandom but when things like this happen — how can we stop? lol. no. but seriously. it is what it is.
Tumblr media
• checking their fingernails + similar pose to HB
• a comment that implies xz went to zhuhai with wyb to ride a motorcycle
• their photos match so well. 🌅
Tumblr media
from zz’s post in milan. it’s filled with the elements they love like the moon and a beautiful sunset background. gg was also showing off his re web shoes which is of course, because he is a gucci ambassador and all that but the “web” cpn is getting stronger. however, i am personally losing my mind over the implications in the caption he used.
• clues in zz’s mfw interviews, matching talismans on their phone cases and similar ads for shu uemura & loreal
• 8 fake rumors from CQL shoot/era that i posted about 📝
• A place CPFs landmark lol
Tumblr media
• spotted same mannerism! twins ☺️☺️☺️☺️
see you all next month for another round up of sweetness! just continue to support the boys and ignore the toxic moves of irrelevant people. fandom is supposed to be fun and a safe space so i hope we all fight to keep that love & peace here 🫶🏼

The Graduation Lineup
Ship: Steve Harrington x Henderson!reader
Summary: Billy Hargrove comes between you and Steve at graduation—but only by last name. Additionally, you finally find out Steve's middle name (among other things).
Word Count: 5,899 words
Warnings: Billy, Stancy mention, flashbacks (aka weird timeline/narration), little bit of self-pity from Steve, fluff
Note: Set in season 2! Also pretend Tommy's last name comes after Henderson so that you get stuck between him and Steve.
Tumblr media
☟ Continue below the fold ☟
Graduation practice was held inside the school gym. You'd been there for an hour at least, waiting for it to start and then going through the list of names to get everyone in the right seat and spot in line. They were on F now. Your leg bounced where you sat, but from boredom, not from nerves. While everyone else was panicking about who they would have to sit next to for the entire ceremony, you knew who you would be next to—and you were happy with it. It was the same boy you were already sitting next to: Steve Harrington.
It was a little weird, you thought, that it all worked out so perfectly. That there were no other Hs separating Harrington and Henderson. That Harrington was the one you had gotten so close to over the past four years, but particularly close to in the last semester alone.
The vice principle got through the Fs and into the Gs. Soon.
"You alright?" he asked you, seeing your bouncing leg.
You nodded. "Just impatient."
Steve smirked, a signature King Steve smirk he hadn't quite shaken. "Got somewhere to be, Henderson?"
"I have to pick up Dustin from Mike's, they all had a sleepover last night. Not that Dustin minds staying over a little longer, but Mom does. She doesn't like him being out of her sight for too long these days."
Steve's eyes went glassy, like they did when he thought about what happened that night for a little too long. "Yeah, well... Can't blame her for that one."
"I don't," you said. "Not when Dustin still has nightmares."
Shock flickered across his face. He opened his mouth but then—
"STEVE HARRINGTON!"
He stood, grinning down at you. "See you in a minute."
You gave him a tiny wave goodbye as he walked away and waited a second for your own name to be called. The vice principle watched Steve take his seat, then looked down at his list.
"WILLIAM HARGROVE!"
Your heart stopped. What? Shit. You'd forgotten about Billy. You bit back a groan, glancing around the gym to try and spot him. There was no movement.
Of course you'd forgotten about Billy—he wasn't even here. Not to mention, he hadn't been here for eleven years. It had just been you and Steve next to each other for a solid eleven years. Steve on one side of you, and his (former) best friend Tommy on the other. Tommy had always been pissed that you separated them, but Steve had never minded, and he certainly didn't now.
"Not here today?" the vice principle said. "Alright, the next student should leave the seat next to Steve open for him." He looked back down at his list and called your name.
You walked to your spot—next to the empty seat—as if in a trance. You sat and looked over at Steve, who looked just a blindsided as you.
Your gaze dropped to Billy's empty seat. "But..."
For some reason, it felt like a betrayal. It felt like the world was ending.
You're overreacting, you told yourself. Just calm down.
But you had been next to Steve for eleven years. Every roll call they organized you by graduating class; every assembly; every Department of Education required testing. You had been in the seat next to Steve for your PSATs and SATs, stealing glances to find him sitting with his eyes huge, not a thought in his head, and trying so hard not to giggle. Then laughing about it after, when the proctors let you all leave, and the two of you exchanging a knowing look the moment you left the classroom.
Over time, especially after the demodogs, Steve grew to be something like your best friend, although, if asked, you'd probably say Nancy was your best friend. You'd grown up with her, too, when Dustin spent the night at Mike's.
(Which made you feel slightly like a traitor when, after all that had happened between her and Steve, you couldn't help but tolerate him enough to like him.)
But you also knew what happened that night in the Byers' house. You knew Billy and Steve had gotten into a fight bad enough to knock Steve unconscious and leave him banged up and bloody. You knew Billy hated him more than ever after that, even though it had been Max who finally knocked Billy out, and you knew it was the promise Max extracted from Billy that kept him from trying to finish the fight with Steve "properly."
So you knew that the look on Steve's face was not just from being separated after eleven years. You knew it was also from terrible fear, overwhelming fear.
The vice principle had gotten to the Js. You hadn't heard any of them, hadn't even noticed Tommy H. sit next to you. You just stared at that empty seat where Billy should have been—where you should have been.
~❊~
You considered yourself fond of Steve Harrington.
He'd saved your brother's life, after all, and the lives of Dustin's friends. Dustin had wasted no time in telling you just how great his new hero was, despite the fact that he was falling asleep in the back of the car when you'd rushed to Steve's house to pick him up, late at night.
"And he took his bat—the one I told you about, with all the nails, that one—and he just started bashing with it. And then, and then, and then, when the demodog got on the roof of the bus, he pushed us away so it couldn't kill us!" He smiled sleepily in the back, visible in your rearview mirror. "You shoulda been there. You shoulda seen it! He was awesome, just...just so awesome... So bitchin'."
You would have reprimanded him for his language (even though it wasn't going to stop him), but he was already asleep, without even finishing his story.
Had it surprised you? A little bit. The King Steve you had known was nothing like the Steve in Dustin's story, but you didn't doubt Dustin. You'd seen a change in Steve the past semester or so. But you'd sat next to him for eleven years, gotten to see a side of him that he didn't let the rest of the school see. And when you'd gone to pick up Dustin, the boy before you was deserving of your sudden fondness for him.
"Hey," he said, greeting you from where he leaned against his car, next to the open door revealing Dustin in the back. "I would have waited for you at the Byers', but I know this is closer, and it's late, so—"
Dustin shouted your name, hopped out of the car, and ran to you, hugging your legs tightly. He'd pretended to be fine when Steve called, but you could tell he was terrified and glad the whole thing was over from how tightly he hugged you.
You looked up at Steve, leaning down just enough to wrap your arms around Dustin's shoulders. "I can't thank you enough, Steve, really." He waved away your thanks, but you talked over him. "Seriously, Steve. Thank you. If anything had happened to him, I would've..." You looked down at Dustin, at a loss for words. "I don't know what I would've done."
"Yeah. Just..." Steve shrugged. He seemed embarrassed to be standing at his car, giving back your brother like two divorced parents and their child. "He needed help and...I was around."
You prodded Dustin toward the car. "Go get in the car. The back, I've got too much stuff in the passenger seat."
He nodded, stifling a yawn and heading to the car without protest.
You looked back at Steve. "Thank you. Again."
Steve nodded, his eyes locked on yours. "Any time."
Without really realizing it, you closed the distance between you and Steve and threw your arms around him, squeezing him tightly and trying not to cry into his shoulder. He stood frozen for a moment, but then his arms came around you and squeezed. For some reason, you remembered he was dating Nancy Wheeler at that exact moment.
"Hey..." His voice was impossibly soft. "Hey, it's okay. He's okay. They're all okay."
You pulled away from him, sniffling and wiping your eyes. "I... I'm sorry. I don't know why I..." You shook your head. "Long, hard day, I guess."
"Don't worry about it," he said, in a tone so gentle and kind that you didn't.
So yes—you were fond of Steve, and that fondness grew when he visited more and more and more often to visit Dustin, or take him somewhere when you couldn't, and you learned through Dustin's endless chattering that Steve and Nancy had broken up a while ago, so you felt a little less guilty about the hug.
You considered Steve your best friend. You might have considered him more than that, if not for your friendship with Nancy.
(Although, did that really matter, when she was happy with Jonathan and comfortably over Steve?)
But you were far less fond of Billy Hargrove.
In fact, you were quite positive that you despised Billy Hargrove.
Even before knowing what he had done to Steve, to your brother and his friends, you had hated him. You had seen him antagonize everyone, from the poor, already outcast nerds, to the popular clique like Steve. Everybody suffered at the hands of Billy, one way or another. Even Max—or, perhaps, especially Max.
Regardless, you hated Billy. And now you had to sit between him and Tommy H, instead of next to your best friend? God, these were going to be a rough couple of hours.
~❊~
On your way out of the gym, you found Steve waiting for you at the door.
"I know you've gotta go pick up Dustin, but after that, do you wanna—"
"Steve, I will do anything you want as long as you let me vent. I can't believe I'm stuck next to Billy Hargrove," you complained.
He snorted. "Yeah, believe me, you're not alone there. Jesus, I wanna punch him again."
"Hey." You put a hand on his chest, stopping him. "Don't start anything you can't finish."
Steve brushed you off and kept walking. "I didn't say I was going to, just that I want to. And, believe me, I really, really want to."
"We'll just ask Max to do it."
He groaned. "Don't remind me that I needed a twelve-year-old to fight my battles for me."
"She's thirteen." Steve gave you a look. You giggled. "Alright, alright. I'll leave you alone."
He pushed the front door of the school open and held it for you, following you out. "Okay, so, you need to vent, I want to go out—milkshakes later?"
"Yes, please," you nearly groaned. "But you do realize Dustin is going to want to come, right?"
Steve rolled his eyes. "You don't have to tell him. Just...bring him home and I'll pick you up at one?"
You rolled your eyes back at him. "The instant you show up at our door, Dustin's Steve-senses are going to tingle and he's going to hop in the front seat before I can. He's practically attached at the hip to you."
Steve laughed. "You have a point there. Alright, fine—Dustin, too."
You split away from him to head to your car, only for him to follow you. You realized he'd parked next to you. "We'll meet you at Benny's!" you said, getting into the front seat. He nodded slowly and waved you off. You returned the wave and left the school parking lot behind.
It was only after Steve was just a figure in your rearview mirror that it dawned on you he'd phrased the whole thing differently from just a regular hang-out with the group.
"But after that—"
"I want to go out."
You glanced back out your window, not daring to identify meaning of the twist of anticipation in your chest.
~❊~
Dustin slurped loudly on his almost-finished milkshake. You and Steve, who were only halfway through your own milkshakes, made eye contact over your glasses and giggled.
Your little brother looked up from his glass. "What? What's funny?"
"Nothing," the two of you said in unison. You glanced back up at him and your stomach did flips. The expression on his face looked like your fondness felt. It looked like the face Nancy had described to you, back when she was still sort-of in love with Steve—before Barb died, and before the Upside Down.
You and Nancy lay spread out on her bed, your legs hanging over the end of her bed, her feet curled up behind her, her knees at her pillows. Your hears were right next to each other, turned toward each other so you could see the huge smile on Nancy's face.
She was half an hour deep into telling you about her date with Steve. "And he just...he had this look on his face, you know? Like there was nothing else that mattered. Like I was the only thing left in the world. The only girl left." Without even realizing it, she had brought her hand up to her hair, curling it in her fingers. "His eyes, they were so...so soft and so open. And his hair was falling into his face, he'd been blowing it out of his eyes for hours, it was so cute, ridiculously cute, but he stopped trying to get it out of his face when I giggled at him."
You giggled at her. "You are so in love with him, admit it!"
Her grin got impossibly bigger. "That...that's the thing. I think he wanted to say it to me."
Your eyes widened. "He was gonna tell you he loved you?!"
"I think so," she whispered. "But then the door opened, and it was loud, rowdy teenagers, so we just glanced over at them and started to laugh and—" She giggled. "And then it was gone. But it was there. He wanted to say it to me." She paused and, in a whisper, added, "And I think I wanted to say it back."
You shrieked with joy, reaching for her and tickling. "Nance, oh my God!"
She giggled, batting her hands away. "Stop it, stop it, I can't breathe!"
"Have you told Barb yet?"
Nancy's mood darkened a tad too much for your liking. "I don't think she'd like it. She's not a...huge fan of Steve."
"Oh, come on, if you're happy, she'll be happy for you, right?"
Nancy rubbed her arms. "I don't know. I hope so?"
"Just tell her, Nance, she'll be okay. She'll get it." You grinned at her again. "Oh my God, I can't believe it, you're in love with Steve Harrington!"
You tore your eyes away from Steve, looking back down at the milkshake he had insisted on buying for you.
"Do you think they're going to say our middle names when we graduate?"
"Huh?" You looked up. That expression of Steve's was gone. "Our middle names?"
He shrugged. "Yeah. You know, we're just walking up and they're saying our whole names."
You blinked at him.
"They're supposed to," Dustin said beside you. Your heads turned toward him.
"What?"
"They're supposed to say your middle names. At least, most high schools do it for graduation. Did they not do it during rehearsal today?"
"No," Steve said. He groaned, thumping his head into the table. "Damn it."
"Why?" you asked, giggling at his melodrama.
He lifted his head back up, sipped on his milkshake, and said, "I hate my middle name. I hate it! It's so...stupid."
You bit your lip, trying not to laugh again. "Well, now you have to tell me what it is."
Steve scoffed. "Absolutely not."
You leaned forward across the table. "Tell me."
"No," he insisted.
"Yes!"
"No way!"
You found Steve's foot with your own under the table, making him jump. "Come on, Stevie... Just tell us!"
"No!"
"We're gonna find out anyway," Dustin piped up from beside you. "They're gonna say it at graduation!"
Steve shook his head resolutely. "No. They might not, because they didn't at practice, and if they didn't, I'm not embarrassing myself by telling you now."
You rolled your eyes at him. "It can't be that bad. No parent would name their child something that awful."
He snorted. "You have clearly never met my parents."
"No, I have not, but now I would like to," you said. You'd heard him complain about his father being a "grade-A asshole" before, a phrase Nancy had confirmed he'd used multiple times about his father, but you'd never seen just how bad he was.
Steve shook his head, going back to his milkshake. "No, you don't," he said quietly. The look in his eyes—like a sad, lost, kicked puppy—shut you up effectively. So you let it go, drinking your milkshake happily.
Dustin twirled his straw around in the remnants of his whipped cream. "Did I tell you about the project Mr. Clarke gave us? I might need help setting it up, but he wants us to make a machine out of stuff we have around the house."
Steve brightened. "Is it a Rube Goldberg machine? I remember those! I think I used mine to open the door to my patio..."
"Yeah!" Dustin grinned. "Mike, Lucas, Will, Max and I have a contest to see which of us can make the best one. I already know Mike's getting Nancy's help, and Will's getting Jonathan's, and I think Max and Lucas are collaborating to make two separate projects, so I could really use you guys to help..."
In amongst Dustin's chatter, you glanced toward Steve, finding a small smile on his face as he watched the kid talk animatedly. Dustin pulled a napkin toward himself and started sketching out vague plans for his machine. You felt Steve's foot move beside yours. You glanced over at him as he started playing a subtle game of footsie with you under the table.
You stifled a giggle, smiling at him in a way that was far too friendly—or, rather, not friendly enough. That look came back on his face, the lovey dovey look Nancy had gushed so much over. You understood why now. Had the roles been reversed, you would have gone straight to her to tell her all about the way Steve Harrington looked at you like he was in love with you.
That tight feeling in your chest came back, a simmering, traitorous hope nestling in your heart and not once listening to the screams of your brain that you should not, absolutely should not, fall in love with your best friend's ex.
Steve propped his head up with his hand, that dreamy look in his eyes intensifying. His lips pursed slightly before they fell apart, pure wonder in that small, involuntary motion.
To hell with not falling in love with your best friend's ex.
You lifted your foot a little higher, catching the cuff of his jeans and slowly but surely tugging up. Steve gulped, pink dusting his cheeks. You felt a brief but distinct shiver of glee.
Dustin pushed his empty cup away from him, the scraping on the table drawing your attention away from Steve. For a moment, you feared Dustin had caught sight of your not-so-subtle flirting and was about to call you out on it, but then he yawned.
"Can we go home?" he asked you, his sudden tiredness evident in his voice.
"You didn't sleep at all last night at Mike's, did you?" you asked with a sigh. "Because if you had, this sugar would be keeping you bouncing on the walls for the next four to five hours."
He shrugged. "It was a long campaign." His eyes fluttered, his head drooping. His body slid toward you, your shoulder being the only thing keeping him upright anymore.
Love and guilt crashed over you at the same time. "Oh, don't fall asleep on me here, I can't carry you to the car anymore, Dusty—"
"It's okay, I've got him," Steve said. He paid the bill in cash and got up from his side of the booth, gently pulling Dustin out from under the table and out of the restaurant. You followed, a glimmer of warmth in your chest. You'd heard Dustin and the others jokingly refer to Steve as their dad; now you could see why.
You unlocked the car for Steve and he put Dustin in the passenger's seat and buckled him in. Dustin mumbled softly—you were quite sure it was a little 'thank you'—and Steve closed the door as gently as he could.
Steve turned back to you, his hands going to his hips. "He's all yours."
"You'd make a great dad, Steve," you said gently, unable to stop yourself, or keep the gentle smile off your face. And when he smiled back at you, you felt like you had flashed ten years into the future, a mom standing and watching her husband carry their sleeping child to the car, doing everything in his power not to wake him.
"I've, uh, always wanted to be one," Steve said, the admission quiet but confident. "Ever since I knew I could be."
"Oh, Stevie..."
He rubbed the back of his neck. "What? It's just...I like the idea. Of being able to be there for someone and guide someone through life and have a family of my own, you know? Like—a big one. A big, happy family."
"I'm not judging you, Steve," you said, hearing the defensiveness in his voice. "I'm not. It's cute. It's really cute. I'm glad that you know what you want in your future."
He sighed, kicking the ground. "Yeah, well. Doesn't help to know what I want if I can't get there."
You raised an eyebrow and waited for an explanation.
Steve shrugged awkwardly, looking the most helpless you'd ever seen him. "There aren't exactly a line of girls just waiting to make King Steve's dreams come true." He bit his lip. "They just want me for a night, if they even want me at all, and then I don't—" He stopped himself short, taking a deep breath, his eyes dropping to the asphalt beneath you. "I'm sorry, this isn't... This isn't the time or place for this. I'm sorry."
You stepped closer to Steve, leaving only a few inches between you. "Hey," you said softly, bringing his gaze up from the ground and back to you. "It's okay. I understand." You caught his hand in yours. "Steve?"
He hummed, his gaze still on your hand holding his.
"You meant for tonight to be a date, didn't you?"
He blushed, but very slowly, he nodded.
Your heart fluttered in your chest. You hesitated, then said, "Do you want a hug?"
The question very nearly made Steve burst into tears. He nodded, accepting your arms around him instantly. He squeezed tightly and you returned the pressure, sensing he needed it. "I'm sorry," he whispered into your ear. "If it was weird, I'm sorry, I should have made it more clear that it was meant to be a date—"
Your hand drifted behind his hand, tangling into his hair. "Don't apologize. You don't have to apologize for wanting to be wanted, Steve. I should have known you wanted it to be just us—and not on babysitting duty." You bit your lower lip, possessed by a sudden boldness. "And, for what it's worth, I'd want you for more than a night."
He went tense and then lax in your arms. "I... What?" He leaned away from you, just enough to see your face but not enough to leave your arms. He whispered your name. "What are you saying?"
You offered him a tiny smile. "I think you know, Steve."
"Say it," he breathed. "Please. Please, I want to hear you say it."
You pressed your forehead to his as his hand lifted to your cheek, fingers brushing over your skin with a reverence you'd never felt before. "I want you for more than one night, Stevie. I want as many night as you'll give me."
The sound he made was both holy and sinful. You really hoped the windows to your car were closed, because that was not a sound you wanted Dustin hearing—especially not from Steve, not while you were wrapped up in his arms and he was in yours.
Steve moved before you did, leaning in but giving you the time and the chance to back away from him. You did the opposite, meeting him in the middle and kissing him softly.
Nancy had not done his kisses justice in her descriptions of them. Though, you had to give her credit, because it was next to impossible to find a good way to describe the gentle pressure of his mouth on yours. There was certainly nothing to compare it to, except for that heady, wonderful feeling of getting out of trouble scot-free, or that beautiful feeling when a choir sings a perfectly arranged chord in a high-ceilinged building.
You whispered his name into his mouth, a prayer on your lips, a desperate cry for more of him. He hummed into your mouth, sending shivers down your spine, and his hands gripped your hips, pulling you even closer to him and then wrapping around you once more.
"Every night, Steve," you whispered against him when he stopped kissing you to breathe, though his lips remained against yours as his chest heaved. "I want you every night."
He groaned. "Don't say that," he whispered. "Don't say it if you don't mean it."
You cupped his face in your hands. "I wouldn't have said it if I didn't mean it. I want you, Stevie. All of you, all of the time."
He whimpered. It was a beautiful sound.
"You know..." His words were choppy, split up by his heavy breaths. "If it weren't for your brother in the car, I'd take you home if you'd let me." You opened your mouth, but he put a finger your lips. "Shhh, don't tell me. Don't tell me if you'd let me. Don't let me know what I'm missing out on."
You smiled at him, toying with the hairs at the back of his head. "Kiss me one more time, Stevie. Please, baby."
He grinned. "Well, because you asked so nicely..." And his lips were on you again, and it took everything in you not to moan your relief that he had kissed you again.
Heaven. His kiss was like absolute heaven.
When he finally let go of you, the air between you had changed, filled with a pleasant glee. For the first time in a long time, you saw that Steve's eyes were bright.
"Get your brother home," he told you. "And I'll see you tomorrow. Oh, and, one more thing?"
You reached for his hand, caressing his skin. "Yeah?"
"How about we keep this between us for a few days? Just until graduation." He grinned. "Surprise everybody. I'll walk across the stage and stop to wait for you and we kiss and walk off together—"
"You're forgetting something," you said, shaking your head. "Billy's between us."
Steve's face fell. "I could...wait until he's gone?"
You laughed. "Stevie..."
He sighed. "Well, it was a good idea while it lasted, right?"
"It was cute," you agreed. "Just like you are."
Steve beamed.
"Don't worry—we'll still surprise them all," you said. "We'll just wait until we pose for photos, and right when they snap a picture, we'll lean in and you can give me a big, dramatic kiss, alright?"
"I like that idea just as much," he said, smiling. He nuzzled into you and kissed your cheek. "Get yourself home safe, hun. Okay?"
"Okay," you said. You let go of him slowly, reluctantly getting back in your car. He waited, waving to you as you pulled out of the parking lot, before he got into his own car.
About halfway down the road, Dustin stirred. "I hope the reason you took that long is because you were confessing your feelings for Steve," he said, his voice thick with sleep.
You glanced at him out of the corner of your eye. "Go back to sleep, Dustin."
"So he confessed, too," he mumbled. "Good. You need each other."
You bit back a smile. "Whatever you say, Dustin."
"Yeah...whatever I say..."
~❊~
You stood in line, your heart beating out of your chest. You were surprised no one around you had told you they could hear it.
Billy was standing in front of you, seeming ridiculously tall in his graduation cap and gown. Behind you, the cap and gown seemed to make Tommy even shorter than normal.
"STEVE EUGENE HARRINGTON!"
Your eyes went wide and your head whipped very quickly toward an embarrassed Steve. You'd heard him groan when they had first started graduating seniors by calling middle names, too, but you had not been expecting that.
No wonder he hadn't wanted to tell Dustin—the kid was never going to leave him alone about this.
"WILLIAM DAVID HARGROVE!"
Billy walked. You waited until your name was shouted into the room. You could hear Steve cheer as he went back to his seat, and Dustin cheering up in the stands. You shook Principle Higgins' hand and accepted your diploma, practically glowing and feeling on top of the world.
When you were seated and Tommy H. was following you back to his seat, you leaned forward to see around Billy.
"Eugene?!"
Steve groaned. "Shut up. Please. Please."
"I can see why you didn't want to tell us," you giggled.
Tommy leaned around you. "You know, you could've told them not to say it."
Steve's eyes went huge. "I could have?!"
He was quickly shushed by the administrator guiding students to the stage. Stifling giggles, you and Tommy sat back in your chairs, waiting for the end of the ceremony to tease him endlessly.

Lover's Lake in June—busy, overcrowded, full of children.
Lover's Lake in June past six at night—still full of children, but just the ones you were keeping your eyes on with Steve.
The party was having an adventure in the water, shouting at each other, the occasional D&D term thrown in. Max and Eleven were a ways away from the group, shrieking and holding their arms up every time the boys splashed the water too close to them.
Steve looked at his watch. "Hey, guys! It's almost eight! You've got fifteen minutes before we gotta get you home."
Max lifted up a hand, giving him a thumbs up, despite the boys not hearing a thing.
"Especially, you, Dusty, you have to go to camp tomorrow!" you called. You got no response.
"Jesus, they never listen, do they?" Steve sighed.
You leaned into his shoulder. "They listen, they just like yanking your chain."
You and Steve sat together at the edge of a dock, feet in the water, his pants rolled up to his knees and his arm around your shoulders. You held a copy of your graduation photo—the photo, the surprise photo where Steve had turned to you and kissed you right as the camera flashed.
"My mom framed her copy of this, you know," you said, handing him the photo. "It's sitting on the hearth."
He grinned. "I'm glad it turned out so well. I was worried it would be all blurry if I didn't time it right." He nuzzled his face into your temple, pressing a series of quick, gentle kisses there. "How'd Dustin take it?"
You laughed, your eyes straying to your brother, who was being tackled by Lucas. "He already knew! After I got in the car, he told me he hoped the reason it had taken me so long to get in after him was because he wanted us to be confessing our feelings to each other."
Steve snorted, loud in your ear. You shied away and he whispered a quick apology. "Of course he noticed. He notices everything."
"Not that it was hard to see we were hiding something from each other," you added, turning to catch his mouth with your own. He hummed into the kiss. "You spent all of that night looking at me with your 'I love you' eyes."
He raised his brows. "Oh, my 'I love you' eyes, really?"
You nodded, giggling at him and pressing closer to his side. You set the photo down behind you as he pulled you into a hug with both arms.
"Well, you weren't exactly the most subtle, either," Steve said, kissing your nose.
"Oh, yeah? What did I do?"
Steve brought his hand up to your cheek, brushing his thumb over your cheekbone. "Oh, you know, you get this look on your face. When you thought I couldn't see you, I guess. You'd look over and it was like...it was like you'd relax." He smiled. "Like seeing me was all it took to calm you down from whatever stress you had."
You smiled. "Yeah, I guess you do kind of have that effect on me." You ran your gaze over him. "You know...you're giving me those eyes right now."
His voice was nearly a whisper. "Good." Steve kissed you deeply, cupping the side of your face to hold you close to him. "Because I do." He squeezed your hip with his other hand. "Because I do love you."
You stared at him, mouth dropped open.
Steve turned red. "I know it's soon, but I—"
"Steve?"
"Yeah?"
"Kiss me."
"Okay," he whispered, leaning back in. When his lips met yours, you lifted your hand into his hair. He sighed happily into your mouth. He wrapped his arms around your waist.
And then it dawned on you. You pulled back from him. "Steve, it's too quiet."
You both looked at the water, half-expecting the kids to be gone, but they were all still in the lake—treading water and staring, silently, at you and Steve.
"What?" Steve asked slowly.
Dustin made a face. "Dude. My sister."
Steve rolled his eyes. "Dude. My girlfriend!"
"You're just as bad as El and Mike," Will groaned, setting off the shouting once more.
Steve glanced at you. "We're not that bad, are we?"
You shrugged. "I don't think so."
He kissed you again. "That's all that matters." He looked back at the kids. "Alright, come on, out of the water! You're not getting in my car soaking wet."
While the kids groaned and complained, Steve stood and offered you his hand to help you up. You took it, kissing his cheek once you were upright. His hand still in yours, you made your way to the car.
Dustin called your name. "Have you seen my towel?"
"Right here, Henderson," Steve laughed. He picked it up from the chair it was flopped over and handed it to him. You leaned into Steve, letting go of his hand so he could wrap his arm around your waist. He kissed the top of your head.
"See?" you whispered to him. "Good dad."
A glint entered Steve's eyes. "Someday," he said, and you got the feeling his someday included you.
You covered his hand on your hip with your own and looked up at him. "I love you, Stevie."
"Still my sister, Steve!"
Steve didn't take his eyes off you and his voice was soft, too soft for Dustin to hear. "Still my girlfriend, Henderson."

Tumblr media
Eddie loved you more then anything; you were his reason to get up in the morning, his reason to try so hard for the bands success, the reason he got out of bed even when all he wanted to do was sleep. Nothing had ever hurt him more then when he had to leave you behind in Pittsburgh.
He knew it would only be for a year, and that the second you graduated you were going to come out to LA to join them, but it felt like it was going to be an eternity. The day he got into the car and left you crying on your door step broke his heart, but he knew he was doing it for a good reason - that if things went to plan, he was setting up a good and stable future for the two of you.
You'd promised you'd come and visit over each of your breaks and you had - he didn't know when each was, but was always happily surprised to find you on his doorstep with your luggage and a smile on your face. Within seconds you'd retreat into his bedroom in the house and spend the rest of the day curled in each others arms, catching up on everything as though you didn't spend every free moment on the phone together racking up your parents phone bill. Eddie promised he'd pay them back when he got 'rich and famous' so you didn't worry it too much.
Camilla was the only one to know about your upcoming trip to LA, considering she spent most of the time in the house it made it perfect as she'd know who was going to be in the house at any given moment, and could help sneak you in this time before Eddie caught wind of your arrival. So when she called you that night, you weren't surprised to see her number on the screen, however, when you picked it up and found her sobbing down the line, you were shocked to silence.
"Billy- he's-" Camilla couldn't even get the words out between her tears, half a sob quickly turning into a grunt of anger as she took in what she'd saw earlier in the day. "Cheated- I- Baby-"
"Cami?" You whimpered into the phone, hurting because your friend was hurting. Camilla was like your sister, knowing her all your life had given you that closeness, and even though you'd technically known Billy longer, it was an easy choice as to who's side you'd take. "It's okay, baby, breathe."
After a moment of silence, Camilla cleared her throat, sniffling the tears away as she spoke. "He cheated on me. Eddie, Graham - they've all been covering for him."
As if your heart wasn't already aching, now it was breaking. Eddie, your Eddie, would do that? If he'd cover up for Billy - the biggest dick known to man kind - then god knows what he would be doing when you weren't around. Camilla lived with them for gods sake and you? Well, you were halfway across the country and still in high school.
Suddenly it was hard to swallow and your throat was completely dry. "I'm catching the next flight out, I'll be there tomorrow." You hung up the phone before she could ask what you'd do about school but that could wait. It was only a week until spring break anyway and Camilla needed you, your savings would rebuild but her heart might not.
When the phone started ringing again as your were packing your bag, you ignored it - even though you knew it was Eddie and you knew he would worry. After the events that had transpired today you didn't feel like talking to him, not until you could contain your whirring thoughts about whether this meant he would cheat on you.
If Billy couldn't get away with it while living with his pregnant wife, then Eddie would pass with flying colours. Only time would tell.
Eventually the phone stopped ringing, but you didn't care to notice, instead running down stairs with your packed bag and running out the front door, down the block, and to Misses Dunne's house. God knows your parents wouldn't let you skip school for LA, but miss dunne had always taken you to the airport for your trips, and given the current situation, you were sure she'd help cover for you.
You were already at the airport before Eddie gave up on ringing your phone, a lit joint between his lips as he sulked with his arms crossed over his chest in the living room of the LA house.
"What's got your panties in a twist?" Graham asked, walking into the room with a beer in hand, taking a seat next to Karen on the couch.
"Y/n never picked up the phone." Graham winced at Karen's answer, turning to Eddie with a frown on his face.
"Sorry, dude. She probably just forgot, went to sleep or something."
Eddie scoffed, the frown on his face getting deeper at the suggestion you wouldn't wait up for him, his brow creasing tightly. "No. Y/n wouldn't do that. She never forgets."
"Well, don't let it keep you up, dude." Graham patted him on the shoulder, trying to reassure his friend. "She'll call back in the morning, besides, she'll be here next week anyway."
"Yeah, you're right." Eddie didn't feel like Graham was right however, you always picked up the phone - and the only times you didn't you warned him in advance that you weren't going to be available. His mind was moving at a million miles an hour, thinking of every single thing he'd ever done that could've made you not pick up the phone tonight, but his mind was drawing a blank.
In fact, he stayed there, deep in thought, for so long that he passed out on the couch, waking the next morning when Karen came running through the house to answer a knock on the door. Eddie's head fell back into the arm of the couch, closing his eyes tightly and deciding he could steal a few more hours of sleep now that Karen was tending to the door. That wish was quickly ended, however, as Karen let out a scream, people coming running from all directions of the house.
"What are you doing here?!" Karen was wrapped in a tight hug with a shorter figure that he recognised all too well, your suitcase was in the doorway and your eyes met his over her shoulder.
Eddie's entire demeanour lit up when his eyes met yours. That explained why you hadn't picked up the night before.
"Surprise!"
Eddie sprung up from the couch, jumping over the back of it and pulling you from Karen's arms and into his own. He wrapped you tightly in his hold, cradling your head to the crook of his neck as he took in your presence. You were here, you were really, really here and in his arms again and everything was good. "I thought you weren't coming till next week." Eddie said, pressing a kiss to your head as he pulled out of the hug slightly, getting a good look at your face.
He could swear that every time he saw you, you got more and more beautiful.
"I was gonna come next week." You answer, standing on your tiptoes to press a chaste kiss to his lips. "Camilla called, I got the first flight out."
"How did you get to the airport?" Graham asked, him and Warren stealing you from Eddie's hold and wrapping you in an awkwardly done group hug - the two boys having missed having you around everyday like they were used to, almost as much as Eddie.
"Your mom drove me." You answered, pulling back from the hug and finally pulling your suitcase into the house. "Where's Camilla?"
Eddie and Graham shared a look and suddenly everything Camilla said to you on the phone last night came to the front of your mind. They knew. They hid it. And if they hid it for Billy, who's to know what they were hiding from you?
"I'll take you to her." Karen grabbed your hand and led you out of the living room, the two of you ignoring the longing look Eddie sent your way as you left just as soon as you arrived. He'd just got you back and you were already going to see someone else? Given the current situation he got it, but he still just wanted to spend some time with his girl.
It was gone midnight when you finally left Camilla's room - you'd crawled into the corridor at the dead of night, feeling bad that you'd left Eddie alone all day, but then remembering what he'd done.
He was probably cheating on you too. The voice in your head hadn't stopped since you'd got Camilla's call last night, and you didn't think it was going to any time soon.
You had fully debated just sleeping in Camilla's bed all night with her and Karen, but you'd been away from Eddie for so long all you wanted was to curl into his arms and sleep for a long time. Although you knew he'd probably be asleep by now, you wanted one more night to be his girl, before you had to confront him and potentially find out what Camilla had. The thought alone made you sick to your stomach
"Why are you avoiding me, birdie?" As you carefully shut the door, not wanting to make a sound in case Eddie was already asleep, you were surprised to hear him, wide awake and kind of angry.
You turned around slowly, unbuttoning your jeans and stepping out of them, ready to get something more comfortable on and just go to bed. "I'm not."
Eddie stood from where he'd been sat on the bed, walking up to you. "You've been here all day and this is the first time we've spoken since you arrived." You ignored him, turning your back to him and missing the way his whole face faltered in favour of pulling your shirt and bra off, picking up one of Eddie's shirts off the floor and pulling it hastily over your head. "Did I do something?"
"Are you cheating on me?"
Eddie's heart stopped at the question. His brow creased and a frown took over his lips as he pouted at you, his eyes swarming with an ache you'd been feeling for the past 24 hours. "What?"
"Because Camilla told me that you and Graham were covering Billy's tracks for him." You pushed Eddies chest, pushing him away from you when he tried to reach out and touch you. He let you, keeping the distance you created as he stared longingly at the heartbroken girl before him; he almost didn't recognise you with such hurt swarming in your eyes, clouding you from him. Almost.
"You would've kept doing it too if she hadn't caught him and she never would've known." Another push, but this time Eddie wrapped his hand around your bicep, keeping you closer to his chest as you landed weaker and weaker pushes against him, tears welling in your eyes. "She lives in this damn house, and she didn't know her scum husband was cheating on her - and then it got me thinking. I don't live here, I don't see you everyday, I don't sleep in the same fucking bed as you every night and if you were willing to do it for Billy, I can't see why he wouldn't be willing to do it for you, too."
The pushing had stopped, Eddie holding you against him with one arm, his other hand caressing your cheek, his thumb wiping away at the tears that were beginning to spill over. "Birdie-"
"And then all I could think about was how easy it would be for you to cheat on me out here; you're halfway across the damn country Ed's. And I'm still in stupid fucking Pittsburgh. What could you want with a girl like me when you've clearly got half the country wanting to be with you?" Your words had turned to whispers, your head falling against Eddie's shoulder though his warm hand still cradled your cheek. As you sniffled into the material of his t-shirt he pressed a kiss to your temple, shushing your crying and holding you tight against him - as though he was protecting you from all the thoughts you'd let stir and simmer in your mind.
"I don't want anyone else." Eddie whispered, gently swaying the two of you back and forth in his hold, his hand running through your hair as the tears began to stop. "I just want you, birdie."
Eddie pulled away from you, holding your face between both of his hands and bringing your gaze to meet his own. "I know I shouldn't have covered for Billy, it was shit of me, but part of me truly thought it would hurt Camilla less if she just didn't know. I get how bad that sounds but I didn't know what to do I-"
"You should've told her Ed's." You whimpered, tears springing back to your eyes as you thought back to the phone call and conversation you and Camila had shared - dwelling on how quickly your stomach dropped and how easy it was to think the worst.
"I know." Eddie cooed, his thumb running gently across the flesh under your eye, his forehead pressed to yours in the dark room. "But I need you to know I would never, ever cheat on you, Birdie. I love you more then life itself; I need you like the air I breathe. I've spent every waking moment since moving to LA waiting for you to come back to me - I want nothing more then to spend every night with you in my arms and every day with you by my side."
"Eddie-"
"And one day, I'm gonna marry you, and we're never gonna have to spend a day apart again, okay?" Eddie pressed a feather light kiss to your lips, punctuating each of his words with another; to your lips, your cheek, the dimple of your smile, you temple, the crinkle of your eye, really anywhere his lips could reach. "I love you, birdie. I don't want anyone else but you, ever, you hear me?"
You were tempted to apologise. Say sorry through tears at the way your brain had jumped to the worst case scenario despite knowing what your Eddie was like, despite knowing he was nothing like Billy. But you didn't, thoughts too hung up on the words he'd just let slip past his lips. Biting your lip between your teeth, you held back a wide smile, rocking on the balls of your feet as you stared dotingly up at Eddie. "You wanna marry me?"
It came out as a bashful murmur, but Eddie still heard it, laughing at your quick change in demeanour. "How could I not? You're my whole world, birdie."
He said it as if it was so simple; as though there was no other possible answer or rhyme or reason. And for Eddie, there wasn't.
Snaking your arms up and over his shoulder, you scratched at the hair at the nape of his neck, using one hand to cup his head and pull it closer to you. Pressing a kiss to his lips, you quickly escalated it; tangling your fingers in his locks and pulling, slipping your tongue in his mouth as he gasped and pressing yourself firmly against him. Pulling back breathless, you murmured praise against the blondes lips. "I missed you, Ed's."
"I know you did, birdie." Eddie pulled you in for another messy kiss; a sudden clash of skin and teeth and tongue. "What you say we start making up for lost time?"
"I'd want nothing more." With that you let him push you back towards his bed, blindly trusting his direction as you let yourself get lost in the feel of him for the first time in months, reassured that your Eddie would never treat you how Billy had Camila - not in this lifetime, nor the next.

we went mad // sam and colby
A/N: let me tell you a story of how this came to be. i obviously got the idea from the scream franchise, in particular scream 2 which is set at a college. so originally i wrote this in second person, but i felt like i had already written pretty much everything up until now in that pov, so i had to switch ALL of the writing i had done (which was most of it) over to first person. and then… i had to finish writing it. and that for some reason just took so long for me. i think part of the issue was that when i originally came up with the idea of this fic, i saw the ending, and that was it. i wanted the famous kitchen scene with billy, stu, and syd, but god… getting there was no cake walk. thank christ i'm done with this fic. it's definitely one of my longer ones. let me know what you think ! hope you enjoy :)
prompt: someone on campus is killing all of your ex-classmates. and you fear you're next. || college!sam and colby x reader

How could you have missed the signs? How could you not have known all this time?
~~~
Sam and Colby had talked about moving away from our hometown for years. They had major plans to move to L.A. and become big. But instead, they decided to go to our local state college with me, and half of our graduating class. And while I was confused by their choice, I was happy nonetheless. They were my best friends, and I was upset thinking that I wouldn’t see them anymore after graduation. But I understood why they wanted to get away in the first place: everyone at our school bullied them. The number of times Sam and Colby had been shoved into lockers, or had food thrown at them in the cafeteria, or were just badmouthed... let's just say that high school was nothing short of hell for them.
Freshman year of college, while stressful, was fantastic. We all lived on campus, our dorms across the street from one another. Hell, I could even see their dorm from my window. We took a lot of the same core classes together, always making sure to work on projects and help each other out. We hadn’t decided our majors yet and knew that this would be the only time we could be in the same classes together.
Things were good for a long time, all the way through the end of sophomore year. I was so excited to start the next half of college. It felt like the home stretch, even if we weren’t close to graduating yet.
But our relationship changed, our friendship drifted apart. By the start of junior year, we were no longer friends. And the major reason for it? I started dating someone from our old high school. I had met him at the end of sophomore year and dated him secretly during the summer. His name was Davis, and back in high school, he was popular. He got into this university on a sports scholarship.  And you might be wondering, was Davis someone that bullied Sam and Colby? No, he wasn’t. But he was friends with those that did.
I didn’t know that until I was already dating Davis. It was hard to keep up with who did and didn’t bully Sam and Colby back in the day. I told Davis to apologize to Sam and Colby for what his friends did. At first he was a bit confused, but he did it regardless. Sure, it was at a party and he was kind of drunk. But it still counted… right? He later texted the guys about it and they said they accepted his apology.
However, they couldn’t forgive me for dating someone like that. So, our friendship just… died.
But even though I wasn’t their friend anymore, I still knew them pretty well. And the moment we were no longer friends, something felt… off about them. We still shared the occasional class, so I saw them every other day. They seemed darker, broodier. And only ever with one another. But that wasn't that unusual for them. They relied on one another a lot.
On a cool fall day, shocking news broke on campus: someone was killed right outside the dorms late last night. Classes were immediately cancelled. Everyone was on edge. The university did its best to calm the nerves of its students, siting that we were in a major city and cities tend to have random killings happen. Police stayed on campus for the next couple days, and partying was prohibited.
Of course, that didn't stop the frat houses from throwing "secret" keggers in their basements. I didn't really want to go, but Davis begged me to. That I should "live on the edge" since I was never really a go-getter. So I went, and I was surprised to see Colby at the party. I waved at him, but his eyes glared back, and then behind me. I turned to see Davis, my face immediately dropping. I didn't see Colby the rest of the night.
The next day, the police finally released the name of the person that was killed on campus. It was in fact a student, but that didn’t mean there was an issue on campus itself. Since we lived in the city, bad things were bound to happen to us too.
The name sounded familiar, and it finally clicked: it was someone from our graduating class. James Cooper. I didn’t know him all that well, but I was still sad to hear he was killed.
Davis sort of knew the guy too; he had been on the hockey team. They had gone to parties together before, but he wasn't close to him. It clicked for me even more when Davis mentioned the hockey team: that guy shoved Sam and Colby into lockers our freshman year to impress his friends. He was a major dick to them for a while, until finally getting onto the hockey team and just ignoring all classmates that were "underneath" him.
…Maybe karma actually did work.
Less than a week later, another person was killed. This time it was a girl. She was found just outside of the library in some bushes. I knew who she was, remembering her from high school. She was a cheerleader, both years ago and now. Lizzie Campbell.
This was all so weird to me. In the two years of being on campus, I had barely heard about any robberies or petty crimes happening, let alone two murders. And on top of that, two of my ex-classmates? Davis shrugged it off, saying it was just a coincidence. But I couldn’t shake the feeling of something not being right about all of this.
And as time went on, my suspicions became more of a premonition.
Two more students, back-to-back, were found. But what made it worse was this time one was in the dorms. And it was in my dorm too, two floors down. Security had everyone on that floor evacuate and go to other dorms for the time being. I, and many other students, didn’t feel safe in the building. I decided to stay over at Davis’ frat house.
They ended up throwing a last-minute party that weekend. I begged Davis to tell his brothers not to throw one, especially because of how insensitive it was and that they could be fined for it. He told me it was out of his hands, that he didn’t decide whether parties happened or not.
How could he be so blasé about these deaths, especially since he even knew these people?
This was a side to him I had never seen, and I didn’t like it one fucking bit. I couldn’t stay there that night, so I trudged back to my dorm room. On my way there, I ran into Sam.
It was awkward to say the least. We talked briefly, and I told him how I planned to stay in my dorm since I couldn’t stay at Davis’. Sam offered his and Colby’s dorm instead; that it was much safer than mine, especially since I would be alone.
Part of me didn’t want to go to their dorm, mostly because of everything going on between us. But he was right about it being safer, and I did miss them a lot.
I followed Sam back to his dorm. He informed me that Colby was out working on a project and wouldn’t be back until later. Their dorm was nice and spacious, the benefit of being an upperclassman. It was like a mini apartment in some ways. We relaxed in their living room area and chatted for a bit. Eventually, the topic of conversation fell onto the recent murders. Sam spoke of whispers around campus that the killer wore a mask shaped like a melted ghost’s face, that that was how he got in and out of the dorms. My skin crawled at the thought of seeing that mask and prayed that that wasn’t the case. The killer could be anyone on campus, just lurking in the shadows.
I had this urge inside of me to tell Sam my theory. I knew we weren’t close anymore, but I felt like he was the only one that would believe me.
I explained to him what I thought was happening: how all of the people that had been killed on campus were from our old high school. The killer was attacking those from our high school only, possibly hunting them down for some unknown reason. Sam questioned if that was true for the newer victims.
We looked up the email from the university, speaking on the recent victims. "The selfish murders of Christopher Smith and Sara Goodwin..." Chris was from my homeroom. He was on the swim team. He won tons of medals and was celebrated. And Sara… she had dated the quarterback sophomore year and was generally a popular person.
Oh god, I think I’m right.
Sam was surprised at how on point I seemed to be. It was a nice change of pace compared to being shrugged off by Davis. But he didn’t fully agree with my idea. He considered that maybe this was a huge coincidence, that maybe the killer wasn’t targeting our class, just the people that still hung out with one another. Maybe all the victims – Chris, Sara, Lizzie, and James – were all friends and the person that murdered them knew them all and was picking them off.
I snorted, "And what? They saw something they shouldn’t and now they're getting I Know What You Did Last Summer-ed?"
"That could be it." He replied.
I sassed. "You can't be serious, Sam."
But he was. He didn’t argue that he was right, just that if someone was attacking our graduating class, or our old high school, they would have to kill half the population of the university. So, it was unlikely that that was happening. Maybe Sam was right about that. Sure – there was definitely a connection. But it sounded more plausible that Sam was right on his part in some way.
Sam decided to call it night not too long after, stating he had early classes the next morning. I dozed off an hour after he went to bed, sleeping on their somewhat comfortable couch.
I jolted awake suddenly, the front door unlocking slowly. It opened, and Colby tip-toed in. His eyes locked with mine, and they widened.
“Hey…” He mumbled awkwardly.
He wondered what I was doing in their dorm, and I told him what happened with me and Sam. I asked him where he was all night, glancing at the neon red lights of the clock shining back 3:20 AM. Colby spoke of a crazy party at one of the frat houses.
But didn’t Sam say…? Whatever.
I nodded my head at him, yawning loudly. He smiled, said goodnight, and shuffled off to bed.
The news broke two hours later - another body was found. Michelle Robinson. And this time, it was right outside of Davis' frat. He even saw the killer, or who he thought it could have been. A guy dressed in all black with a cloak and a mask running away from the house. But no one saw the body until the morning.
The mask… just like Sam said.
Campus was immediately shut down, all classes resuming online. Absolutely NO parties. How could the university think people were going to be able to learn when there was a killer on the loose? It was insanity to me.
I was forced back into my dorm. Police raided every car and dorm on campus to find clues. They determined after a thorough search that the killer wasn’t a student, just someone that new the dorms well. No evidence was found linking a current student to the killings.
The day the police announced this, I got a very strange text.
UNKNOWN: if they only knew....
I didn’t know the number or what it possibly could have meant. I tried not to think about it, already too concerned with everything else going on. The next day, however, I got another text from the same number.
UNKNOWN: what's it like knowing that people are dying on campus but your bf is throwing another party??? it’s almost like he’s celebrating their deaths. you really know how to pick them
I responded with what the hell are you talking about? and who is this? but the number never replied back.
Were they telling the truth though? Was Davis really throwing another party? He couldn't be.
I went straight over to Davis’ frat house, and when I saw the brothers pulling a keg into the back of the house, I knew the unknown number was telling the truth.
I argued with Davis that night. How could he be throwing a party again after what just happened? He even saw the killer and he’s just… shrugging it off like it doesn’t matter. People he knew from school are dying and he doesn’t care. It was gross and concerning beyond belief.
He rolled his eyes, saying that he wasn’t close to any of the people that died, just that he knew them in passing. And they weren’t throwing a party, just a kick-back with the boys in the house.
“Oh okay, that makes it all better…” I spat sarcastically. “Even if that was just the case, how are you in a partying mood?”
He groaned, walking away from me. “Oh my God, Y/N, you’re such a buzzkill.”
That was enough to set me off. I broke up with him on spot, not listening to another word he had to say. I held back tears as I raced back to my dorm. That was the last night I saw Davis.
And it was also the last night of the murders. At least... for a while.
Three weeks went by. This had been the longest period without any murders. It seemed as if things might have been getting back to normal. Even the university was starting to act the same again. The university announced the soon-to-be-open dorm that was right down the street from mine. I was even excited to stay there next year; I was actually looking forward to it - to senior year. To the future.
After breaking up with Davis, I ended up becoming friends with Sam and Colby again. I told them what happened, and they graciously accepted me back with open arms. It was nice to be with them again, for life to feel somewhat normal once more. But I couldn’t lie: I missed Davis. I knew I shouldn’t have, his weird lack of empathy for what was happening was alarming, but maybe something was going on with him and that’s why he didn’t seem to care. Or maybe I was trying to give him brownie points when he didn’t deserve them. But I couldn’t help but miss him. Even if I knew what he did was fucked up to me, I still cared. I worried something could still happen to him.
The killings might have stopped, but that didn't mean I wasn’t still paying attention and on edge all the time. I think everyone on campus could feel there was still a chokehold in the air from the murderer.
I texted Davis after a month of nothing from him. I asked to meet up with him, but he never responded. My messages were going through, so he didn’t block me. Sam and Colby caught wind of my texting and were highly against it, especially when I said I planned to go to the frat and see him for myself. According to Colby, clearly Davis either needed space or just didn’t want to see me, so I should just stay away for a while. I considered what he said but decided to go anyway. I asked around at his frat house if anyone knew where he was, since I knew he wasn’t in class. His ‘brother’ Kevin replied that they hadn’t seen Davis in a long time. Like, almost a month.
...The last time I saw him as well.
My stomach twisted up in knots at the first thought I had.
Was he the killer?
There’s no way. I was with him when the first killings happened. Maybe he had an accomplice? No. No, Davis wouldn’t kill anybody, let alone people he knew from back in the day… right?
I can’t tell Sam and Colby, even though they know my theory about the killer hunting people from our graduating class. I don’t want to give them another reason to hate Davis. Not to mention, I must be wrong. There’s no way Davis killed all those people. It was just a coincidence that he left and the murders stopped.
Unless… the killer got him too.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. Maybe Davis left because of the killings. Maybe it was too much for him to bear. Maybe a family emergency happened. Maybe he couldn’t handle the classes. There could be a laundry list of reasons why he left.
My heart skipped a beat when my phone buzzed on my way back to my dorm. The number wasn’t the one I was hoping to see, and all the text did was make my thoughts spiral deeper.
UNKNOWN: do you miss me?
~~~
Our campus was known for its Halloween parties, and while I definitely wasn’t in a spooky mood, Sam and Colby begged me to come with them to a random frat’s party. Sam wanted to introduce me to his girlfriend and Colby didn’t want to be left alone when they would eventually disappear off. I agreed begrudgingly. I dressed up in my costume from last year, a witch, and Sam and Colby dressed up as Batman and Robin; and by dressed up I mean they just threw on a t-shirt with the symbol. Walking into the party, I felt my skin tingle with anxiety. The music was loud and there were so many people around in an array of different costumes. I glanced around, hoping to maybe see Davis, but he was nowhere to be seen.
“Stop trying to look for him. He clearly left because he couldn’t handle the pressure anymore, whether from the murders or the workload.” Sam stated, pulling my attention away from the crowd.
“Maybe he couldn’t live without you so he left.” Colby joked.
“Either way, don’t waste your night looking for someone that’s gone.” Sam stood up pointing at me, “I’ll be right back, let me go find my girl.”
“Let’s see how long it takes him this time.” Colby rolled his eyes.
I stayed with Colby for a while, watching a table of zombies play beer pong. After two games had finally played out, I started looking around for Sam.
“Don’t bother. Sam has a tendency to disappear off with his girlfriend and only come back around super late. I don’t know, but sometimes I swear she’s not real.”
I questioned, “You’ve met her before, right?”
He shrugged. “Sorta. It was quick, and honestly, I was super drunk so it could have just been some random girl.”
“Sam wouldn’t lie about having a girlfriend.” I argued.
“Yeah because if he did, I’m gonna make fun of him so fucking much,” Colby chuckled. “I’m gonna go step outside and call him, see if he’s around here. If you want, go… mingle, until I get back.”
“Tell him to hurry back, with or without his girlfriend please.” I laughed, watching Colby smirk as he stepped outside.
I wandered around the party, running into some people from my English Lit class. We started taking shots and bitching about the professors giving us so much work during the murders.
I wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but it felt like it had been at least an hour, if not longer. I pulled out my phone, ready to text Colby where he went off to, and suddenly an urgent email went through. Everyone’s phones around me started blowing up as well, gasps and screams being let out as people read the message.
Three students were just found dead on campus. Police advised everyone to stay indoors and if they were out on the street not to walk home alone.
“Fuck this, I’m getting the hell out of here!” Someone yelled deep from within the party.
A major rush of people started going for the front door, making it impossible to leave. Mayhem was breaking out, people were crying, screaming, and begging to get out of the house as soon as possible. I rushed to the basement, knowing there was an exit there since all the frat houses were built with the same layout.
Fuck! Where was Sam and Colby?
A huge group of us ran back towards our dorms. I stayed with the group as long as I could until I was alone, running to my dorm.
“Y/N!” I heard Colby’s voice shout from across the courtyard.
I spun towards him, running up to him hastily. I fell into his arms, pulling him close.
My voice quivered. “Thank Christ you’re okay! Where’s Sam?”
“He’s with his girlfriend in her dorm. McFranklin Hall.” Colby informed.
“Oh thank god. Okay, let’s just get back to mine since it’s closer.” I urged.
We got into my building quickly, jumping into the elevator. I finally was able to catch my breath for a moment, my heart still pounding. “Where the hell were you all night?”
Colby furrowed his brows, confused. “I wasn’t gone that long, Y/N.”
“You said you were only going to go make a phone call.” I responded.
“Yeah I did, and then I guess I lost track of time.” He answered.
We walked out of the elevator and down to my dorm. “How the hell did you lose track of time?”
He huffed. “Can we just talk about this later?”
I shook my head, pulling my key out. “No let’s talk about this right-”
“Y/N?” He interjected.
“What?” I breathed, still looking at him.
“Did you leave your dorm unlocked?” He pointed.
My gaze fell upon my dorm. The door was open, but only a little. Like someone rushed to get out of it.
“Maybe we should head back to my dorm…” Colby backed up.
I stepped inside, pushing the door open all the way. “No I need to know what happen-”
I flicked on the lights and choked out a gasp.
My room was torn up, everything knocked over and on the floor. Someone ransacked it, looking for God knows what.
I shuddered, “W-who… did this?”
Colby bit his lip nervously. “I don’t know.”
“How did they even get in here? I locked my door, I know I did.” I dissented.
His face twisted in disgust, covering his nose. “What is that smell? I think it’s coming from behind the door…”
Colby pushed the door shut, jumping back as it slammed.
“Oh my god is that… blood?” He whispered.
#9 was smeared onto the door, still fresh from whoever broke in.
My mouth watered as nauseous rushed through me. “Nine… that was Davis’ jersey number.”
“Or… like how many victims there’s been.” Colby deadpanned.
My breathing labored at his tone. “There hasn’t been nine victims. The three tonight make it eight.”
Colby’s eyes were cold as he turned to me, “Well, then maybe you’r-”
A dark figure lurched out of my closet, grabbing Colby from behind. I screamed out, staring into the melted ghost face mask.
“Run Y/N! R-” Colby yelled, his breath hitching as the figure’s knife stabbed into his chest.
Pure adrenaline kicked through my veins as I bolted out of the building. I ran to the stairs, rushing down them as fast as I could. I wasn’t sure if the figure was behind me, but I knew I just needed to run. As I finally made it to the street, there were no cars around. It was late, already one AM. The police sirens and glow of their cars were so far away, possibly on the other side of campus.
I rushed down the street, praying to find a lone car or business open so I could call for help. But everything down the street was dark, deserted.
The only building that seemed to be open or have lights on was the new dorm. I raced around it, trying to find a single unlocked door. I found one towards the back of the building, an emergency exit that hadn’t been installed yet.
I needed to find a space to hide, knowing that once I felt safe, I could call for help. I didn’t want to run through the open lobby, so I kept going up the stairs to the second floor.
From down below me, the emergency exit busted open, the dark figure staring up at me as it raced up the stairs. My screams echoed off the walls of the staircase as I rushed through the second story door. I ran down the hallway, trying to find any room that was unlocked. The hallway was dark, only the occasional work light.
I could hear the slamming of the emergency door behind me. It was near; and getting closer. Fuck! I need to find somewhere to go. I just kept running, not knowing what else to do.
The building was almost in a circle shape, everything looping back around to one another. As I sprinted to the other emergency exit, the figure popped out, stopping me dead in my tracks.
How the fuck did he get over here?
I turned around, running back the way I came. As I got to an open living room area, the figure came down the hallway I was running towards. I spun around, gasping at the now two dark figures in front of me.
I backed up against the wall, the figures closing in. Tears clouded my vision as I stared at them, ready to die.
Suddenly they stopped, glancing at one another, and chuckling. Their laughs sounded familiar as they pulled off their masks.
“Sam…? Colby?” I sputtered.
Sam smiled. “In the flesh.”
“Surprise.” Colby smirked.
“W-Wha? What the- What the fuck?!” I screeched.
“What? Oh shit, did we scare you? Didn’t mean to do that.” Sam feigned concern.
Colby held back a laugh. “…Yeah, we’re only sort of lying about that.”
My body was frozen against the wall, “Is this some joke? A prank?”
“A prank? I think killing eight people is far past the point of a prank.” Sam glared.
“Our sense of humor isn’t that fucked up. What do you think we are, monsters?” Colby scowled, pointing his knife at me.
My stomach dropped as my heart raced faster. I could feel the color drain out of my face.
They killed everyone.
“No. No, y-you guys can’t be serious.” I cried.
“Oh, we’re dead serious. Why don’t you show her her prize, Colby?” Sam gestured.
“Sure. I’ll be right back.” Colby winked, backing away.
I moved forward as Colby turned the corner. Sam shoved me back against the wall, pulling out a gun from behind his back.
He pointed the gun at my chest. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
I whimpered. “Sam, why are you doing this?”
“Don’t worry, you’ll learn soon enough.” He grunted.
My eyes fell on Colby as he pulled Davis’ tied up body from around the corner. He was alive, but barely; blood soaked his clothes, and he looked dirty.
“Oh my God Davis!” I wailed, trying to run towards him.
Sam wrapped his arms around me, holding me tightly against him. “Tsk tsk, Y/N. I told you not to move.”
“You’ve probably been wondering where he’s been. He’s been in here, just… chilling.” Colby snickered.
I shook my head, tears streaming down my cheeks. “No, no, no. This can’t be real. You guys-!”
Sam growled in my ear. “What?! We can’t be killers? Oh trust me, Y/N… we are.”
“And you know, all this happened… because of you.” Colby spun the knife in a small circle, until he rested it underneath my chin.
“Because of me?” I uttered.
“Yes. You see, that night you made Davis ‘apologize’, he didn’t actually do that. Maybe to you that’s what he said. But to us, he said something totally different.” Sam explained.
Colby mimicked Davis’ voice, “‘I remember you two dorks. Can’t believe Y/N has put up with you two losers for so long. My friends did nothing wrong in high school. You guys deserved every single thing that happened to you. I ain’t apologizing for shit.’”
“‘Honestly the shit they did was fucking hilarious. And if you’re not over it by now, that’s your fucking problem.’” Sam chimed in, doing the same voice.
“Well… now it seems like your problem too, Davis!” Colby cackled, kicking Davis in the stomach.
“‘You’re not gonna tell Y/N about this. She’s never gonna believe you anyway. I have her wrapped around my finger. She’s in love with me, so you might as well accept this as my apology.’” Sam quoted directly into my ear.
“Do you know how upsetting it was knowing he was right? You would have never believed us. Especially when he sent that dumb poor excuse of a text the next day claiming he was sorry.” Colby hissed.
“We would look like the bitter nerds that just couldn’t get over their dumb bully.” Sam replied.
“So you thought murdering our old classmates would make it better?!” I exclaimed.
“Every single one of them deserved it! They weren’t just our old classmates; they were the ones that bullied us!” Colby lurched at me, getting into my face.
My eyes widen at Colby’s words. He was right.
“The first one, James. That was my doing. Total accident, B-T-W. It was right after we stopped being friends, I was upset and we bumped into each other,” Sam recounted nonchalantly. “He recognized me from high school, and he called me his favorite name – you know, the old one he used to call me all the time back then. I blacked out, and when I came to, I had strangled him to death.”
“I killed Lizzie after seeing you at the party with Davis. You know, she was always so desperate, even back in high school. And she tried to get with me, and when I shot her down, she all of sudden remembered me. Started calling me a loser, and all this other stuff. It didn’t bother me at first, but then she brought up Madison and how she told everyone in school how bad I was our first time. So… I killed her.” Colby shrugged.
“We didn’t even know we had done these crimes until we both confessed to one another. And then from there, we just couldn’t stop.” Sam revealed, tightening his hold on me. “We basically went back and forth, one for one. Except Colby went a little rogue and killed… what was her name? Michelle. That night you were at our dorms. That… that one almost got us caught. Especially since you basically had pieced together that the killer was going after old classmates.”
“I’m sorry. What can I say, Michelle actually surprised me,” Colby chuckled darkly. “I was working on a project with her, we went to a party and… well, it doesn’t matter. Just know it was fun leaving her body outside of Davis’ frat. Too bad he saw me leaving. But that was when we realized Davis might actually be useful after all.”
“We got a burner phone, texted you once or twice, and things just fell into place. You broke up with him – because let’s be honest, we didn’t force him to throw parties after everyone’s deaths. That was all him. And his lack of caring? Also all him. So again, you really do know how to pick them,” Sam joked.  “And once you guys were done-zo, we realized kidnapping him and making him disappear would make you question if he was the one who did it.”
“Plus, we had mid-terms.” Colby added.
“How did you keep him here for a month?” I questioned.
Sam scoffed. “A month? No, we only just kidnapped him. Who the hell told you he’s been gone for a month?”
“A brother at the frat.” I remarked.
“Yeah, no. He’s wrong. Prior to that, Davis was actually ignoring you though. He was pretty upset about you breaking up with him.” Sam related.
Colby stared down at Davis who shook with fear. “He didn’t expect it since you were so wrapped around his finger.”
“I just don’t get it. Why would you do this?” I choked.
“We wanted to forget high school, we really did. The plans we had for life outside of this state were just too big. So, we made them smaller, thought going to the same school as our best friend would be fine and sure, we’d have run ins with old high school assholes, but who cares? That was years ago. We’ve all moved on, right?” Colby huffed.
“The thing is, when you deal with people who peaked in high school… life doesn’t move on for them. Their glory days consisted of making our lives shit day in and day out. They get to go on and not have to relive the trauma. Hell, they didn’t even have to pay for what they did. And what about that is right?” Sam spun me around to face him, his eyes glaring into mine, “Why do they get to live when a part of me and him died back then?”
His cold stare left me speechless. “I-I –”
“And then… you go and date one of them?” Sam shook his head in disappointment. “Now that… that’s fucked up. Which is why you have to die too.”
“Wha? No, no. Sam, Colby, please!” I begged.
Colby grabbed my arm, both of them gripping onto me. “There’s no point in begging now. You chose your fate the moment you picked him over us!”
“Please don’t do this. Just let me go and I won’t tell anyone.” I pleaded, lying.
Sam cocked the gun. “Yeah, right. You have a good moral compass on you, I remember our philosophy class together.”
“Wait! Can I kill her?” Colby interrupted.
“What, no dude. I’m the one with the gun, let me do it.” Sam protested.
Colby frowned. “But that’s no fair, you killed more people than me.”
“No I didn’t. We killed the same amount. I made it even tonight.” Sam bickered.
“Yeah, well, if you kill her than it’s uneven.” Colby complained.
“Then you can kill Davis and that way it’s even.” Sam compromised.
Colby breathed. “Oh oka-”
I punched Colby right in the face, knocking him back into the wall. I kicked Sam hard in the dick. He groaned loudly, dropping to his knees. The gun flung away from him, next to Davis’ body. Colby’s hands were suddenly around my neck from behind, choking me. I fought against his hold, elbowing him hard in the chest. Sam recovered from my kick, jumping up and pushing me back into Colby’s hands. He held Colby’s knife up against my chest, ready to stab me.
A loud gunshot echoed off the walls of the dorm. I felt a sharp, agonizing pain in my side. My vision blurred from the pain and lack of oxygen, and suddenly all was dark. Quiet.
~~~
Y/N’s body dropped to the floor as Sam and Colby turned towards Davis, who somehow came loose from his binds.
The gun was in his hands, pointed at them.
“Holy fuck, you shot Y/N!” Colby boomed.
“No! No! Fuck! I meant to shoot you!” Davis stammered, pure shock coursing through him.
“Oh my god bro, you actually killed her?!” Sam laughed. “Wow… you made this so much easier for us.”
“Don’t you step any closer! I’ll fucking kill you too!” Davis turned towards Sam, his finger on the trigger.
“Gonna be hard to do that. There’s only one bullet in the chamber.” Sam stated.
Davis stared at the gun, trying to open it to see if Sam was telling the truth. Sam rushed up to him, stabbing him in the chest hard.
Sam blinked. “Just kidding.”
Davis’ body collapsed on the floor, and Sam bent down and stabbed him three more times, each with more fury than the next.
“Aw man… I thought I was gonna kill Davis.” Colby pouted.
“Shut up, Colby. Okay, we gotta make this look like we fought. Put your mask on him. I’ll take my cloak off and leave it next to him. Then we gotta make ourselves look… beaten.” Sam barked.
Colby nodded his head, taking his mask and placing it on Davis’ dead body. Sam tore his cloak off, leaving it next to Davis. The extra mask and cloak they discarded, leaving it in the room where Davis had been held captive. They made sure to clean up somewhat, wiping their fingerprints off of all weapons.
“Alright so… I think we should at least give each other a black eye. Maybe a couple slices too.” Sam dictated.
Colby agreed. “Okay, should I go-”
Sam punched Colby in the face, snorting after Colby winced and backed up.
“She already punched me bro! You didn’t have to do that!” Colby whined.
“Sorry. Go ahead, take it out on me.” Sam pulled his arms back, closing his eyes.
“Man, I don’t know. I’d hate to h-” Colby decked Sam across the face, his rings cutting up Sam’s bottom lip.
Sam winced. “Fuck! Okay! Shit. Alright, I’ll slice at you once, and you do the same.”
“Okay…” Colby mumbled.
Sam grabbed the knife, swiping at Colby’s abdomen.
“Ow! Fuck, that hurt.” Colby grimaced.
Sam rolled his eyes. “You’re such a baby.”
“Give me the knife. Tell me how it feels.” Colby yanked the knife out of his hand, jolting it into Sam’s side.
Sam grunted deeply, holding his wound. “Why don’t you cut a little deeper next time, Colby?”
“Sorry, are you okay?” Colby asked.
Sam pulled out his phone, “Yeah I’m fine. Alright, that’s enough. Time to call the police.”
“Dude…” Colby exhaled happily. “I can’t believe we’re getting away with this.”
“Justice is finally being served.” Sam grinned.
Sam called 911, giving an Oscar-worthy performance on the phone. He even shed real tears. The police were over in a flash. Sam and Colby limping down to the lobby of the empty dorm to meet them, for dramatic effect. They made sure to make themselves look exhausted from the crazy night they just endured.  They told the police what happened – they saw the figure murder Sam’s girlfriend, one of the three that were killed tonight, and they followed him over to this building where they saw him dragging Y/N in. It was Davis, Y/N ex. He kidnapped her and killed her and tried to kill them as well. But they were able to fight him off and stab him.
They were escorted to the ambulance, a crowd of students lining up outside the building as they were being checked out.
Sam and Colby smiled at one another as they were loaded into the ambulance, needing to be fully checked out at the hospital.
A loud yell rang out as Y/N’s body was brought down on a stretcher. EMT’s surrounded her as they pulled her into a different ambulance.
“WAIT! She’s got a pulse!”
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
You were jealous of your younger brother, Lucas. He was able to maintain having two friend groups while throughout high school you weren’t able to keep a single friend. Not that you weren’t impressionable or anything, you just had a tendency to grow apart. They had their interest and you didn’t like their interests. So you would keep to yourself for the most part. You were considered weird now, you never went to parties nor did you interact with the popular kids.  You were socially awkward and had a hard time talking with your peers.
Since you didn’t have a friend group you would typically sit with the other outcasts in the Hellfire Club with your brother. You had never done it before but your brother helped you warm up to them. You wouldn’t consider them your friends though. They were your brother’s, you were just his older sister that wanted to tag along. The only one that would truly interact with you was Eddie Munson, the club president, and dungeon master.
Sometimes, he would ask what you were reading or what you had in your sack lunch. If there was nothing to talk about within the club, he would talk to you instead. He was very nice to you. One of the few boys to do that with you. And because of that you couldn’t help but have some feelings for him.
But of course, you weren’t the only girl he was nice to. There was Chrissy Cunningham the popular cheerleader and freshly on the market. After a very messy break-up with her long-term high school sweetheart, Jason, you heard her talking on and on about how nice Eddie was to her. He was her shoulder to cry on for weeks. It was hard for her not to fall for him. And there were clear signs of him reciprocating. Not that you ever saw that but she was convinced. You heard her babble to her cheerleader friends about it.
You were jealous of Chrissy too. She had the friends, the smile, the talent, and the skill. Things you didn’t have. If Eddie were to choose between the two of you, you had no shot of winning.
You sat in a stall and waited for the gaggle of cheerleaders to leave to practice. It was Friday, which meant it was hellfire club for Lucas but his coach had told him during the day to be sure to be at practice. So he could be at either. You would pick him after whichever ever so you had to make sure you knew which direction he would be coming from. You decide to check on the Hellfire Club first to see if he was there. You knock on the door and wait for a few moments.
The door swiftly opens, “Sinclair nice of you to finally join us…” Eddie booms making you jump backward, “Oh sorry, wrong Sinclair. Sister Sinclair, to what do we owe the pleasure of your presence.” He smiles.
“Oh, um, I was just looking for Lucas, but if he’s not here I’ll look somewhere else.” You spin on your heels.
“Brother Sinclair didn’t show up but hey since you’re here maybe you could help us. The party is down a player and could really use some help.”
“From me?” You laugh nervously, “But I don’t really know how to play dungeons and dragons. Lucas tried once and he never wanted to again. I’m not that teachable.”
“Well, I’m sure with all of us there you could learn something. I’m a pretty good teacher.” He holds out his hand to you, “C’mon, I promise it’s not that scary. No matter what the guys tell you.”
You can’t help but smile. You take his hand gently and he pulls you into the theater room. Through the room and to the main stage was a large table set up in the darkness. You see all the members at the table, the only spot left open was the one right next to Eddie. As you take your seat, Eddie begins his monologue. “Welcome adventurers, we will be resuming our journey to the world’s end. Along the way you meet a traveler.” Eddie points to you, “And they have agreed to accompany you on this adventure.”
You swallow hard when a blank character sheet is placed in front of you with a pencil. You stare at it wide-eyed. Eddie leans over and explains to you every bit on the page. Jesus, there was so much happening on a single page. You had to roll dice skills?! Why not just pick random numbers? Why do you need slots for magic? Why not cast it all the time? You know magic, did you suddenly forget?
The questions would continue to fill your mind as you filled out the sheet. The session was tough for everyone, you were sure of it. The combat was very stop-and-go, every time it was your turn. You would apologize profusely before asking for help yet again. You were flustered with everyone staring. You felt terrible when it was over. You swore you heard a collective sigh of relief. Everyone then leaves the school, heading home for the night.
“Hey, no worries. You did good for your first session.” Eddie slings an arm over your shoulder. Your heart squeezes at the motion.
“Thanks. I probably couldn’t have done much without your help.” You say, “But I probably won’t play again.”
Eddie clicks his tongue, “That’s too bad. I’ll keep your character sheet though. Just in case.”
“Yeah, just in case you need to start a fire.” You mumble. Eddie lets out a hearty laugh, you didn’t think you said it that loud. You feel yourself begin to get flustered. The air in the parking lot cools down your face. As the Hellfire Club leaves the theater, the basketball team leaves the gym. You see Lucas coming out of the doors, “I should meet up with Lucas, I’ll see you around Eddie. Thank you for letting me play.”
“Anytime, Sister Sinclair. The offer still stands, you can join us whenever.” He bows and spins on his heels and walks over to his van.
You skip over to Lucas, “Hey kiddo, how was practice, you didn’t tell me which you were going to. I had to look for you.”
“You were with the Hellfire Club all night? I’m surprised.” He says.
“Yeah, Eddie roped me into playing.” You giggle but stop when you see the look on his face, “But it was whatever.”
“Right.” He smiles, “For a secret crush, you have a hard time keeping it one.”
“Whatever man, get in the car,” You unlock the door and jump in the car.
“Did the guys say anything about me being missing?” Lucas asks.
“A little, I think they were bummed you didn’t say you weren’t coming.” You say as you start the car.
“Oh, another thing, could you drive me to Chrissy’s place tomorrow night?”
“Chrissy’s? What for?” You furrow your brows as you pull to a stop sign.
“Her parents are out of town so she’s hosting a party. Is it cool if I go?”
“Don’t ask me, I ain’tcha mamma” You shrug, “But if she says yes, then I will take you.”
“Think you’d want to stay too?”
“Why would you want me to stay?”
Lucas shrugs, “I’ve never seen you go to a party before, maybe you should try it.”
Sometimes you liked when your brother looked out for you. However, there were times you wished he didn’t. Nothing made you more self-conscious than you realizing as a senior in high school, you didn’t do much in high school. No parties, no smoking, no drinking, no relationships, nothing.
You smile, “Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind but for now, I don’t think so.” You flex your hands on the wheel, “Parties are very crowded places.”
“But you are considering.”
“Emphasis on considering. I don’t know yet.”
When you head to bed, all you can think about is the party. And Eddie. Would he go? He has said he never really liked parties but it was Chrissy’s party. So maybe he would go. Then maybe you would go. It felt stupid to go to a party for a boy. A boy who might not even be there. You let out a sigh, you’ll just drop Lucas off.
The next night, You pull up to Chrissy’s large house. Lucas looks over at you for a moment, “Are you coming in?” You shake your head. He nods in understanding, seeing how you were sitting straight and you had a tight grip on the steering wheel. “Okay, I’ll find a ride back home.” he exits the car and heads inside. You watch him go before pulling the car out of park and roll away.
Just as you do, you see a dark figure jump in front of the car. You slam on the brakes quickly as the person turns to you, it was Eddie. “Woah, sorry my bad, thought you were parking.” He comes over to the window, “Sister Sinclair, what a pleasant surprise. What are you doing here?”
“I’m just dropping off Lucas…” You stammer, your grip on the wheel grows tighter. “What about you?”
“Chrissy invited me… I tried to bring the club but that was a no-go. So I’m kinda alone out here.” He sighs, “Unless you want to come inside with me.”
You let out a nervous giggle before covering your mouth. You compose yourself, “Sure.” You put the car back in park and lock it up before following Eddie inside. The house was full to the brim with folks from your school, hell, there were some from across the county here. Eddie wades through the crowd and you stumble your way after him following him to the kitchen.
Eddie picks up a bottle of liquor and pours you a cup and then one for himself. You take the cup from his hands and take a sip. You make a sour face before smiling causing Eddie to laugh nearly spilling what was in his mouth. “You’ve never had alcohol before.”
You were embarrassed to say no. “Only a little of what cocktail my dad would mix.”
“Oh, okay, so this is a little below your taste.” He chuckles. You roll your eyes and continue to drink. Eddie leans against the counter next to you. He looks like he wants to say something but before he can, Chrissy appears, wrapping her arms around him.
“Eddie! You made it. I am so glad you’re here.” She squeals.
“Yeah, no problem. Sister Sinclair is here too.” He points. She only glances at you for a moment before continuing to talk to Eddie. Chrissy was nice but she was not your friend. You had never had a real conversation with her. You don’t think you’ve ever had a genuine conversation with her. Not that you would want to. She just talked about Eddie every time she was in the bathroom with her friends.
While they are distracted, you slip out of the kitchen and sit outside in the large backyard. You see Lucas walking with his friends and you wave. He walks over to you with a big smile, “You’re here! At a party!”
“Yeah yeah, I thought it would be fun.” You shrug.
“What convinced you? Is Eddie here?”
“He didn’t convince me.”
“But he is here though, right?”
You don’t say a word. Which answers his question. “You should tell him, y’know”
“Lucas, you’re supposed to be on my side!”
“I am! What a better opportunity than now!” Lucas exclaims, “You do it or I will.”
“Are you threatening me?!” You elbow him jokingly, “Whatever, man. Your friends are calling you, go back inside… Dork.” You shoo him away and you finish off your drink. You would go back inside for another but you didn’t want to risk the chance of bumping into Eddie and Chrissy in there. They were probably making out on the kitchen counter, or they probably moved upstairs to her bedroom. You grimace at the thought.
“Sister Sinclair” You are startled by the whisper in your ear. While you were thinking those terrible thoughts, Eddie had snuck up on you. “I was looking all over for you.”
“You were?” Your heart flutters at the statement.
“Well, I invited you for a reason.” He says.
You tilt your head, “Oh yeah, what is the reason?”
“Hm, you’re probably the only other person here I don’t find insufferable. Other than myself of course. And I really like talking to you. You don’t seem to have ulterior motives for being around me. Free weed or guitar lessons. And you don’t see me as someone to just make your parents upset. You treat me human.” He looks out into the night sky. “I don’t know how to describe it but you get it right.”
Of course you did. You felt the same way with him. You weren’t just Lucas Sinclair’s sister to him. You weren’t just the girl that sat in the back of the class. You felt like you had become his friend on your own. And that’s all you ever were going to be. Just his friend.
Eddie looks over at you and smiles, “You’re thinking.”
You snap out of your daze, “Hm? Oh, nothing. I’m just glad you think that way. I also consider you a good friend. I’ve always had a hard time making some. I really appreciate you.” You felt your heart sink into your stomach like a stone. You swallow dryly and clear your throat. “I’m glad to be your friend, Eddie.”
“I’m glad to be yours too, Sister Sinclair. But you know I—”
“Eddie! Come inside, a few of us are gonna play spin the bottle.” Once again, Chrissy swings in with her sweet pout to convince him to leave.
“Uh, I don’t really want to play.” He mumbles.
“Oh well then maybe we could play truth or dare.” She pulls him back inside. Eddie looks at you apologetically before disappearing back into the house.
You sigh before going in yourself. The party was starting to drain you. The loud music and the crowd of people were starting to overwhelm you and the buzz of the alcohol in your system was waning. You decide to look for Lucas and let him know that you were leaving. You didn’t want him to worry about you vanishing into the night without letting him know.
You wander around for a few minutes and you can’t seem to find him. You ask around and people tell you that he went upstairs with a few others. You sigh, as you think about him up there playing that stupid game. You head up the stairs and look for Chrissy’s room. As you look around you hear giggling coming from one of the rooms. That must be it.
You were about to knock on the door when you heard someone call Lucas’ name. “Lucas, Truth or Dare.” The boy clicks his tongue, “Hm, Truth”
Everyone boos him until the person who spoke before says, “Tell us more about your sister. She seems so mysterious.”
“Yeah, I saw her in the backyard, I had no idea she knew anybody at the party.”
“Oh, she’s really cool. She likes reading, she has a bunch of books in her room about like history and plants—” Lucas is booed yet again by the people in the room.
“Tell us the juicy stuff.”
“Yeah, tell us a secret.”
Lucas looks around nervously. You stare in horror through the crack in the door as you see his eyes move to Eddie. “Well, I know she’s got a crush on somebody.” No! Lucas, no! You wanted to shout but you were frozen in fear. You continue to watch.
“Well spill Lucas, who is it?”
“It’s somebody in this room,” Lucas says, the room goes quiet. Everyone looks around trying to find out.
“Oh, I think I know.” Chrissy giggles, “It’s Eddie. Every time I saw you guys together she was totally ogling you.”
“Yeah Eddie, like her back?” Someone laughs.
“Yeah, no offense, but she always looks so sad.” Chrissy pretends to pout, “Kind of a buzzkill at the party.”
“She can’t seem to do anything without being around you, Lucas. Are you sure she is the older one?” They laugh again.
Tears well up in your eyes as you listen to them laugh at you. You hope that someone will defend you. Lucas, Eddie, anybody. Your ears begin to ring and the world becomes muffled. Your ears were burning hot and felt shortness of breath. The tears blur your vision as you back away from the door. The walls were closing in on you and you started to get lightheaded. You walk towards the stairs and bump into a table, and knock over a vase, shattering it on the hardwood.
More eyes are on you as they hear the commotion. Everyone in Chrissy’s room comes out. Lucas steps forward to help you but you step away quickly running down the stairs. He follows after you. Eddie tries to follow as well but Chrissy grabs his arm, full of tears about the broken vase.
You reach the car outside and your ears hurt when the cool air touches them. Tears stream down your face, and you could barely breathe. You never thought your kind and caring younger brother would hurt you like that. Let them say those things about you.
He comes from behind you, shouting for you to stop, “Just wait a second.”
You turn around slowly and look at him, “How could you let them say those things about me! Your sister, Lucas. I have done nothing to deserve that and for you to hide in a room and tell my business. And you let them make fun of me. Am I really that helpless?! I’m sorry that I am so pathetic. I’m sorry your friends feel bad for you. I’m sorry, Lucas.” You wipe your face and unlock the car getting in, “You can find your own way home.” The car squeals down the road leaving Lucas in the dust.
The next school day, you were silent. You dropped Lucas and Erica off at school without a word. Lucas attempted to talk to you over the weekend but you had paid Erica fifty bucks to keep him away from you when you were home. At school, you kept your head down and avoided those at the party and the Hellfire Club. During lunch, you didn’t sit with them, and instead, you opted to sit outside and eat. However, you would regret this decision as you see Eddie approaching you coming from the woods.
“Sister Sinclair,” He smiles, “Good to see you’re okay after the party.” You don’t utter a word. You don’t even look at him as you continue to eat. Eddie’s mouth runs dry, “I’m sorry for what happened. They were jerks to you for no reason. And about the whole crush thing, I just wanted to say—”
You quickly pack up your lunch and leave. You didn’t want to hear him say another word. You didn’t want to feel like crumpling into a ball on the floor. You didn’t want him to see you cry for a second time.
After school, you still had your sisterly responsibilities of taking your brother home from his extracurriculars. Whichever one he chose for the day. It’s evening now and the clubs are over. To your surprise, Lucas had come out of the theater with the Hellfire Club.
Not a word is exchanged between the two of you as he enters the car. The car ride is silent until you hit the first stop sign. “I’m sorry for what I did at the party. I shouldn’t have told Eddie that you liked him. And I shouldn’t have let them bully you like that. I thought I was doing something right and instead I hurt you. I was being a total dick.”
“Yeah, you were.” You say.
“I don’t expect I will be forgiven.”
“You are.” You say, “You’re a stupid teenage boy. You’re gonna make a lot of mistakes. You were doing it out of the kindness of your heart. Just remember who your true friends are. You can’t assume everyone has an open heart like you do. That’s why I love you. I will always love you. And I forgive you.”
“I sent you into a panic attack. That doesn’t sound like kindness.” Lucas mutters.
“In hindsight, it wasn’t but I was already overwhelmed.” You wave it off. You didn’t want him to worry about the thought anymore. The moment came and passed and you were over it. Somewhat. There was still the Eddie part of the situation.
The next few days you still avoid the Hellfire table. You notice that Chrissy spoke less and less about Eddie during her bathroom breaks. She wasn’t clinging to his arm anymore or begging for his attention.
After school, you wait in the parking lot for your brother when all of a sudden Lucas throws the door open. “We need your help.” His tone throws you into a panic as you follow after him. You come in half expecting someone on the floor dying. “We need your help fighting a gang of trolls.”
The others look at you with pleading eyes. You furrow your brows in confusion as if they weren’t dreading the time that you were playing last. “Are you sure it’s me you want?” They configure around you and nod.
“Eddie has been very aggro this last game. He is usually more deadly when something is upsetting him.”
“Okay, what does that have to do with me?” You furrow your brows.
“Last time he wasn’t like this was when you played. So if you play again…”
“Will he be gentler?”
They all nod. You sigh and fold your arms, “Fine but I’m doing it for you guys.” The guys cheer and reconvene back at the table. The only seat that remains was the one next to Eddie. As you sit down, Eddie gives you a small smile.
“Welcome back, traveler.” He hands you your character sheet. He really did hold on to it for you.
You take it gently, “Thank you.” You look down at it nervously.
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you.” He gives you a wink before continuing his monologue and starting combat. You get put in the initiative order and you try to figure out what to do for each of your turns. This time around you got the hang of what to do, sparingly asking Eddie for help. One by one the trolls are defeated and the session ends. Everyone heads to the door and as you stand up to follow, Eddie taps your shoulder, “Have a second to talk?”
You look over at Lucas and toss him the keys, “I’ll be out in a minute.” He nods and heads out with his friends leaving just you and Eddie in the room. He moves around the table collecting figurines and folding up the map.
“So, about the party I—”
“I accept your apology.” You say, “I mean there isn’t anything for you to apologize for you didn’t say anything mean about me. And the whole crush thing, it’s no big deal. If you don’t like me that’s fine. I kind of don’t expect you to. Like you said, we are friends. That’s all we are. I’ll get over it eventually, so you don’t have to feel bad for me or anything like that.” You let out a long needed breath.
Eddie blinks a few times before laughing a little, “Sorry I don’t mean to laugh but what makes you think I wouldn’t like you back?”
You smile nervously, “Well, first of all, Chrissy—”
“Chrissy is like a little sister to me. She’s very nice but I never saw her the same way she did me. I just found it hard to hurt her feelings after her break up.” He sighs, “But because I was sparing her feelings, I was hurting yours.” He’s nervous as he speaks. He twists the rings around his fingers and he’s shuffling his feet, looking down at the floor. “I like you a lot, and I would love to take you out sometime. On a date, somewhere nice and quiet, away from people and we could be our normal selves there.”
“Really?” You can’t help but feel giddy inside, you bounce on the balls of your feet, “I would like that a lot.”
He steps closer and takes your hand, “This weekend then?”
You squeeze his hand gently, “Yes.”
He is getting closer now, “I’ll pick you up from your house.” He places his other hand on your waist.
“Uh-huh.” Your voice goes quiet, feel yourself moving closer.
His eyes move from your eyes to your lips, “We go have dinner, and then go watch a movie.”
“Y-yeah.” Your breath hitches as your lips meet with his. When you pull away, his eyes are slow to open after yours. He smiles down at you. “So, Saturday?”
“Saturday sounds nice.” He then escorts you out of the school to the parking lot, hand in hand.
Hi, yes! I’m here to participate in Sissy & co Tuesdays. 😈
I’m gonna need just a small crumb of a visual of protective!Trevor and/or Quinn (or any of the boys, to be honest) in action because there’s nothing more I love than men acting out and being absolutely feral
let’s take it back to high school, shall we? (yes i’m aware it’s a lil cringey i went full hs drama on a tv show)
———
while you were very loved among the NTDP boys, some of the other athletes at school didn’t really like that you were center of attention all the time. and by that you mean that the other athletes’ girlfriends didn’t like that you were center of attention all the time. they wanted to put you in your place for their girls.
a football player, the backup quarterback to be exact, cornered you with a few other players at your locker after school one day.
“well if it isn’t the princess,” Garrett, the quarterback, said as he put an arm above you against the lockers to trap you.
maybe you should be scared, but you were a bit too cocky for that.
you crossed your arms, “can you move? my brother’s waiting for me.”
“mmmm, i don’t think so,” he said and got closer. “see, my girlfriend doesn’t really like you. she doesn’t like that you’re stealing her senior year. she wants to be prom queen, and you seem to have the popular vote.”
“that really isn’t my problem,” you scoffed. “maybe your girlfriend should realize being prom queen isn’t everything.”
“so you agree!” he smirked. “you’ll be dropping out.”
“dropping out?” you laughed. “i was voted in! and i certainly don’t bow down to some football player’s girlfriend who isn’t even here to discuss her issues herself. do you fight all of her battles?”
this didn’t sit well with Garrett. if anything, it made him angrier. the only issue with that? he caused a scene. he drew attention. he drew your boyfriend.
“hey!” Trevor shouted from across the hall.
“is that your boyfriend here to fight your battles?” Garrett spat. “i thought you were tougher than that, princess.”
Trevor took his opportunity to come from behind and slam Garrett against the lockers, being sure to hit his head hard against them.
“what the fuck?!”
“back. the fuck. up,” Trevor seethed.
“easy there, Zegras! we were just having a little chat. weren’t we?”
you rolled your eyes, “you mean you trying to intimidate me into dropping out of the running for prom queen? sure. we were having a chat.”
Trevor had enough and swung, putting enough power to his punch to knock Garrett down.
“next time you come near here, you’re going to have a lot more than just me to deal with!”
just listing some of my headcanons (mostly appearance/demographics) because i like listing things and i’m procrastinating hard
caboose - 18-19 in 2552. went straight from hs graduation to basic to sim training to blood gulch. he was gonna do a program where the UNSC provides a hefty scholarship for completion of an engineering degree with a few years of service upon graduation, but got enlisted instead through a combination of paperwork being confusing for bureaucratic nonsense reasons, paperwork being confusing for deliberate predatory we-need-as-many-people-for-cannon-fodder-as-possible reasons, and him being confused by any paperwork. 6'7”, ~250 lb, very muscular and not thin but not quite chubby either, very mixed but mostly latino and arabic ethnicities, thick fluffy 3A chin-length dark brown hair that's always in his eyes, round face with cute fuzzy eyebrows and aquiline nose. him and tucker (and kinda donut and perhaps sarge) are the only motherfuckers here with a stable happy childhood. uses-no-specific-label queer cis dude.
church - we know church is 5 in blood gulch lol but it think he thought he was like 23-ish/jimmy was around that age. in jimmy's body, 5'10, ~230 lb, chubby and "normal" level of muscularity for someone who has a somewhat active job but doesn't work out much, untidy thick straight black hair that's like 2" grown-out from a buzz, face passably similar to the director if you squint but not really (e.g. shorter/squarer face, eyes hazel instead of stupidly light green). epsilon projects a similar bodytype but would probably default to a young-director-ish face if he had to make one. i think he would at some point consciously change it around if he were doing a face with any regularity. bisexual and nonbinary and will probably never fully acknowledge it but she can have some pronouns as a treat (from tex or in her own internal monologue) sometimes.
tucker - 18-19 in 2552. went straight from hs graduation to basic to sim training to blood gulch. enlisted because he was a “fuck around without any motivation or particular goals in life” kind of teenage dirtbag who was like “oh hey predatory recruiters absolutely dominating every career fair in Covenant-war-era earth. i’ve heard being in the military is very sexy and exciting and makes you a chick magnet so sure sign me up”. 5’4”, ~110 lb scrawny guy in blood gulch -> ~135 still pretty skinny but more muscular later. 4C hair with a grown-out buzz from basic in blood gulch becoming locs when it's long enough. *takes you by the shoulders very seriously* repeat after me, his eyes are BROWN. and the only acceptable other option is when they’re turning gray as in a body horror way, gray as in your body becoming something uncanny to you, gray as in the horribly blinding cold light of unfathomably vast stars lightyears away from anything you’ve ever known (read lazarus left the tomb btw. treat yourself). very handsome face in a boy-next-door-looks-very-sweet-until-he-opens-his-mouth kinda way. an only child or had like one older sibling he wasn’t very close to by the time he enlisted. i think of him as a bi cis guy but i enjoy trans hcs.
kai - 20 in 2552. 5’2”, ~200 lb, fat and top-heavy hourglass and broadset. a little muscular (it’s not immediately obvious) as she was always athletic and basic training helped, but she’s made more for endurance (body by “dancing 7 hours and walking home across town drunk and sleep-deprived”) than strength. thick upper-back-length black 2C hair that she sometimes dyes streaks in or ombre (usually brown highlights but she mixes it up). broad face and nose, big adorable eyebrows, life-endingly cute eyes and smile. alternates between no-makeup all-leg-hair realness, and full femme glam for funsies with 5 sets of fake eyelashes trying to take flight (at least three of them are inevitably going to be Just Fucking Gone by some point in the party). pansexual ipsogender intersex gal (tbh the original reason i headcanoned her having mosaic turner’s is the colorblindess [x-linked recessive traits are rarely gonna show up if you have 2 X chromsomes vs having one, so i was like, “hey her retinas could be some of her XO tissues, and with mosaicism, fertility isn’t uncommon, so it doesn’t contradict her having had abortions”] and then years later i thought about it harder and was like wait she has achromatopsia and that’s autosomal. biology nerd fail moment. but anyways she’s intersex.)
tex - her body is modelled after allison aged 33 (when she died), but bigger stronger faster idealized-by-memory-and-wanting-her-to-be-invincible-to-the-point-of-looking-more-like-she’s-on-gear-and-photoshop-than-a-natural-body. 6’2”, body looks like ~220 lb of muscle and low-body-fat (but not like, cut for bodybuilding competition level of low-body-fat), but being made largely metal, she is heavier. whereas allison was like 5’9”, 170 lb, serious-crossfit-competitor kind of build but nowhere near as built as tex. face looks very similar to allison but just… weirdly airbrushed look and looks… sharper. harsher features. more intimidating. but she’s got this crooked smile that looks kinda like a smug smirk but also like she’s not laughing at you exactly, she’s just vibing with you and the inherent comedy of the absurdity of life. but when she’s Not Smiling it's the kind of expression you start backing away from expeditiously. i think of her having shoulder-length hair she wears in a ponytail but i do love short-hair tex dearly. gnc butch gay/bi (mostly attracted to women, uses both labels) cis woman who uses any pronouns.
wash - around 31? in 2552 (would put him being recruited to pfl at about 26 which feels right for being able to slide into the Goofy Innocent Rookie role but also plausibly have achieved a pretty high non-commissioned officer rank). 5’6” -155 lb, functional muscle with a build in-between lean and stocky (“otter” as a label keeps coming to mind). i don’t have a super settled facecanon but picture him as either white or mixed white and east asian. he has not changed his bleach-blonde crewcut since he was 17 and the shock of allowing himself to change it now might kill him. gay ace trans man.
carolina - 29 in 2552 (actually the youngest among the high-ranking freelancers. she would kill (jk) to protect this secret). she did the whole 4 year military academy to commissioned officer training thing and had a couple years of normal UNSC service before unfortunately getting wrapped up in her dad’s mad science pet project. 5’8”, ~150 lb, leanly muscular. i think of her having natural red hair she dyes bright red but i love a black-haired carolina too. we’ve seen her face. straight trans woman (transitioned as a preteen). i know, i wanted her to be in the wlw club, too. unfortunately every time i try shipping her with a woman she’s like “meh. thinking about my weird khaki man.” and i’m like oh. sorry about that affliction.
sarge - 62 (?) in 2552. 5’6”, ~200 lb, stocky and solidly muscular barrel-chested slight-beer-gut old dude. chinese-american. if you somehow catch him without his helmet he’s got wraparound reflective shades so good luck ever seeing his face (he’ll tell you it’s classified). another eternal crewcut guy but his is shorter than wash’s. bi and definitely a robofucker tbh. he is cis or trans depending on what’s funnier in any given circumstance.
grif - 24 in 2552. worked in honolulu a couple years after hs graduation until kai was old enough (17) he felt he could leave. did a year at university before realizing he’s smart enough to be admitted to cornell but not to get the scholarship he realistically needs to not be in crushing debt on graduation and also there’s not nearly enough regimentation to college life to prevent him from rotting in bed paralyzed by Problems. went through basic and stationed on the doomed outpost. that Whole Thing happened and he was reassigned to sim troopers. 5’8”, ~300 lb, fat and a little bit strong against his will from an involuntarily active job (he has valiantly resisted picking up cardiovascular conditioning. he works very hard on unfitness). he’s kinda cute in a “hasn’t washed his face in 5 days and his peachfuzz/stubble patches combo is very uneven but you caught him smiling for 2 seconds and oh no it was VERY charming” way. thick 2C dark-brown hair that’s a few inches long, wears it longer later. gay trans guy (because his little sister is named “younger sibling of the same gender” so like… also lmfao how unfortunate for kai that her name, which she did not choose, misgenders her big brother. like 😭 god it is very on the grif siblings brand of “hello so the circumstances we have been put in mean that my existence [kai]/how i have to leave you here to protect my own sanity [grif] is actively making your life much harder. i am ashamed of this, let us never communicate about it ever. i love you so much.”)
simmons - 23 in 2552. tried to do university several times and had to drop out for mental health reasons (a very polite way of putting “rapid spiral into absolute disaster every time”. it leaves room for giving him the benefit of the doubt that this was a proactive “ah i should take care of myself and this is not working for me :) #selfcare #therapy” decision. this is not benefit of the doubt that anyone who knows him would extend.). I go back and forth on whether to roll with the “suspiciously specific denial of being in a unit that was stranded and had to eat their dog to survive” thing or just say he was assigned straight to sim troopers. 5’11”, ~160 lb, wirey build and has to be standing at attention or else he holds himself so awkwardly. i pretty much go with the Standard Ginger Simmons Fanon Face but light brown hair also feels right and i think his hair should be very short. i really like when people draw his prosthetics very industrial/bare mechanical frame not trying to imitate biological form, just whatever’s functional. Red circle eye, hell yeah. bi and i used to firmly believe “this guy has to be cis because there is NO WAY he would have the hutzpah and willingness to put self-authenticity over doing what he’s Supposed To Do. we’ve seen how he deals with anxiety. he would just be white-knuckling his way through dysphoria to this day” HOWEVER i have really come around to trans simmons
donut - 19-20 in 2552. i see him taking a gap year or two to work on the farm and think about what he wants to do with his life (not productively introspecting on his deeper desires in life and what would allow him to fulfill them, god no, of course not. daydreaming unrealistically. obviously.) before enlisting. i think his upbringing was fairly happy but kinda weird and a bit insular within a small community of some Beliefs and possibly homeschooled. not like exactly Fundie Christian America as you might assume with that background; american subcultures have changed enough over 500 years that this is one of many totally unrecognizable to us. like it has some roots in Fundie Christianity and homesteading-from-a-weird-reactionary-tradfamily-can’t-trust-the-gubernment-place and some in Hippie-dippiness Spirituality, not-actually-a-cult-but-sometimes-you’ll-hear-him-say-things-he-thinks-are-normal-and-you’re-like-ummmmmmmm. (Idek how that headcanon started. i think i was just like so how DO you build a guy like donut). he’s 5’10”, ~185 lb, sturdy build, i don’t think people would consider him chubby but definitely not thin. his face and hair looks like he should be on a 1960s white america boyscouts poster but like, goofy about it. i think of him being mostly white but some latino heritage he’s curious about but was not raised connected to (hence wanting to learn spanish). acearospec and gay (he’s like…. mostly asexual and aromantic but it’s complicated. he is barely aware of being gay let alone ace or aro. he just fully makes up what he thinks sexual attraction and romance are and assigns it to random feelings/experiences). cis dude or nonbinary.
CHAPTER FOUR
Grammy Night 2021
"Maggie just walked in." Jeff said, eyeing the door.
Harry turned to see her. She was beautiful. Maggie was always beautiful. She wore her hair back loosely and a simple black dress with some midriff and back baring cutouts. Sparkly heeled sandals. She tightly gripped a clutch. He saw her pull her face into that tight public smile. Dear God she was so painfully thin.
Guests at the party greeted her. The pearly white smile got bigger and tighter. She was so visibly uncomfortable. Maybe not to the world but Harry could see it. He almost regretted inviting her. Was she okay? Was this causing her upset or discomfort?
He crossed the room and everyone around them scattered. He offered her a smile and she relaxed into her genuine Maggie smile. Her hands loosened up around the clutch.
Harry took a chance and leaned in. He kissed her cheek. "Thank you. This means everything to me."
She squeezed his arm. "You deserve it all. Thanks for including me."
He surprised them both when he grabbed her into a hug. He breathed in the clean scent of her hair and kissed her cheek again. He lingered longer than he should but not as long as he wanted. When he pulled back he said the only thing he could think of, "Drink?"
Maggie nodded. She needed a drink. A big vodka to swim in so she wasn't thinking so hard about all of this.
Harry took her hand and led her to the large bar. Just that simple gesture could have melted her. Except now Maggie found it hard to feel much these days. Her work wasn't just acting. Her life felt like an acting job. Just act like everything is ok. For the moment she just tried to be here and to be present.
Harry ordered her vodka with extra lime. Her first sip gave her such a rush that she leaned back into him. Without much thought Harry wrapped an arm around her waist. This is how they used to be. The new normal was they were officially 'just friends'? Maggie was all about control and order. Being with Harry set her on edge. All of that carefully crafted control and order she liked so much was tossed out the window around him. She couldn't trust herself to do what was in her best interest because part of her felt so invested in him. She knew logically she should cut all ties to Harry but there was a piece of her that just couldn't let go. After all that had gone down between them she was still here. What would it take to finally sever things? She was afraid to know the answer. She was afraid of what it might do to her.
"Hello!" An excited British voice called out to Maggie. It was Sarah followed by Mitch.
Maggie's eyes popped open wide seeing Sarah so clearly pregnant. "Oh my God?! What is this baby bump?! How did I miss this while watching you tonight?!" She left Harry's side to hug Sarah.
"Because this guy is out flashing his tits in a leather suit. Who would notice me?" Sarah laughed.
"Hey now." Harry pretended to be offended. Sarah and Maggie hardly gave him a glance once they started talking baby.
Mitch grabbed a drink at the bar next to Harry. "Is she ok?" He whispered and nodded toward Maggie.
Harry could only shrug. He didn't know. He knew in this light she looked gaunt. Not even the makeup could hide that.
"I have to be fed. I'm starving - all the time." Sarah announced.
The words cut through Maggie. Her face flushed. Sarah knew it was a poor choice of words immediately. Maggie clearly had something going on with her.
Mitch saved her from the awkwardness. "C'mon. Let's get that situation handled. Maggie it was really good to see you." He squeezed her arm.
"Congratulations on, on - everything! " Then a giant sip of the cold vodka. She needed a buzz.
When she turned to look at Harry he looked concerned. No. This would not do. This was his night. She tipped her head back and poured the rest of the vodka down her throat. People were dancing. She grabbed his hand.
"Don't be so serious, Styles. Let's have some fun."
They danced. They talked to friends. Maggie went to the ladies room at one point and he lost track of her. It was late and things were quieting down.
Finally he noticed people coming in from the terrace. The door opened and he got a glimpse of her.
Maggie looked out on Downtown Los Angeles. Would she ever stop loving it? Maybe LA was her longest relationship. When she left New York she never looked back. Los Angeles felt like home and a vacation all at once. The sun. The ocean. Her career allowed her to see the world and do amazing things. She was so thankful. Maggie knew she was fucking it all up right now. She knew eventually someone was going to say something. Her body would be addressed. It was always this body. This body was bad at 260 lbs. This body is bad at 101 lbs. What about a boob job? Too muscular. Too skinny. Too tall. Too short. Too young. Too old. Too pretty to take seriously. Too serious for such a pretty girl. She couldn't keep up and she was losing control. All Maggie wanted was some control back in her life.
She dropped her clutch by her feet. She could feel herself leaning a little too far off the terrace rail. It dug uncomfortably into her bony rib cage. You could let it all go, she heard the words in her head. You could tumble head first into Downtown Los Angeles and it would all just be quiet.
She felt strong hands around her waist suddenly.
"What are you doing?" Harry growled, clearly panicked. His face was flushed. She was alarmingly leaning over the rail. So much so that only her tiptoes remained on the ground. He pulled her tight against him and took a few steps back from the edge.
Maggie came back to reality. "I was enjoying the view and I've had a lot to drink. " She brushed it off.
"You have to level with me. You aren't okay. You don't look like you are okay." He searched her eyes for the truth.
"No complicated conversations. You promised me. I'm here because you wanted me to be and you made me a promise." She took a breath and looked away from him.
They were both still and silent for what felt like a long time. Harry picked up her bag and extended his hand to her. Maggie slipped her small, soft hand into his and followed him out.
They said their good nights to the guests remaining. Harry never let go of her. She started walking towards the lobby of the hotel. He gently redirected her to the elevators.
Maggie thought she should protest and insist on leaving. She didn't have the fight in her. Being next to him felt so comfortable. Walking into his room where she could take off her 'Maggie mask' and just be felt so good.
"I'll get drinks and snacks. " He said as he kicked off his shoes and took his jacket off.
Maggie sat back on the large leather sofa. She unbuckled her sandals and pulled her feet under her.
Harry appeared with two vodkas and a cheese plate. Maggie happily took the glass. She was unmoved by the cheese plate. She however grabbed a piece of cheese (swiss - the lowest calorie option) to keep Harry from asking any more questions.
A single cube of cheese. His stomach was in a knot. Didn't her sisters see this? Was anyone helping her? He put his glass down on the coffee table.
Maggie leaned against him. He put his arm around her shoulders. She felt him take a breath as if he was going to speak. She turned quickly and put her finger against his perfectly pink lips.
"Please don't. I don't want to overthink it. There is so much unsaid and nothing is going to change tonight. Let's just have this night. You deserve a good night." Maggie pressed her lips against his. They shared a soft kiss. She settled back in against him.
He knew she was right. He just wanted to savor this time with her. Amelia Mason was waiting for him in London. She was sleeping in his bed this very minute. Instead of trying to focus on whatever that was he was here with Maggie. Maybe they would never work or the time would never be right. He was so drawn to Maggie though. Harry wasn't ready to stop trying. She completed tonight for him. He would go back to hating himself for being a shit to Amelia later.
"Can I take you to bed?"
Maggie nodded her approval. He gently pulled her up off the sofa with him. He planted a kiss on her forehead. Then he turned her around by her waist and steered her into the bedroom.
Once there Maggie made her way out of her dress. Harry discarded his clothes and slipped into the bathroom. When he returned Maggie was in bed. Now dressed in the hotel robe and sleeping soundly. Her hair free from its loose updo sprawled all around her. She was so peaceful. He wanted to be peaceful with her. Harry got under the covers and pulled her in close.
Breathing her in he couldn't help but be sent back into happier times.
2018
"I get it. I'm not a musician but you're wrong." Maggie rolled her eyes as she took a sip of the bitter red wine she was served.
"I am a musician. Musically, American Girl is more substantive. Can I just run around critiquing movies like I'm a filmmaker?" Mitch narrowed his eyes as he took a swig of beer.
"You sure can but I almost dread hearing it if you won't acknowledge that Here Comes My Girl is superior to American Girl."
Harry stifled a chuckle. He and Sarah bowed out of this fight at least ten minutes prior to this exchange. Maggie and Mitch really liked one another but they really liked antagonizing each other most of all.
"C'mon H. School your lady." Mitch pressed.
"Well I hate to tell you that you're both wrong and Tom Petty's best song is Wildflowers."
"Wait, what? That isn't even the best song on that album. Gorgeous song but wrong answer." Maggie was now shaking her head.
"She's not wrong. " Sarah finally interjects sitting back on the floor on a cushion next to Mitch. She passes him the vape.
"Incredible. Maybe we should call Stevie and ask her." He says with a bit of annoyance in his voice.
"Lame. Name dropper." Maggie swatted his knee from her spot on the floor between them.
"It's You Wreck Me." Sarah replies matter of factly.
Mitch releases the smoke he has been holding. At the very same time Mitch and Maggie blurt, "It's Crawling Back to You."
The two high five. Sarah and Harry roll their eyes and snicker at them.
"Fuck. I'm putting that album on. Want more pizza while I'm up?" Mitch asks the three of them.
"Yes. Bring more pizza out. I'm so high. I am going to eat all of the pizza." Sarah moans falling back on the carpet softly with a giggle.
Maggie had stopped by her favorite wood fired pizza place on the way to Sarah and Mitch's house. It sounded like everyone was on the way to drunk or stoned after a long day at the studio. So she ordered a little bit of everything. She was greeted with a hero's welcome when the trio saw the armfuls of food she had.
Harry nudged Maggie with his knee gently. 'You eat? Want something?"
"I had a big dinner. All good." Maggie was a liar. She had a small salad with a little balsamic vinegar that she ate before she decided to run five miles on her treadmill. She later had a Pepcid chewable for dessert because the balsamic gave her acid reflux after her workout. Reminder. Only plain lettuce and veggies before anything strenuous. She had a movie wardrobe to fit into and late night pizza would not help.
He smiled a big dimpled smile at her. "Ok. We have to make sure you are fueling up while working out for this movie." He let his fingertips gently rub her arm a moment until they were startled by Tom Petty's Wildflowers. Mitch came clumsily crashing back into the room and dropped the brown pizza box onto the coffee table.
Maggie had been hanging with Harry and his friends while they made his sophomore album pretty regularly for the last few weeks. Now Harry was calling them a 'we'. Mitch was referring to her as Harry's lady. They never once discussed what they were or weren't after that day in Harry's pool. Maggie assumed this was still friends with benefits but as the days wore on it felt less casual.
"Can you drive or want me to get an Uber?"
"I can drive."
Harry got up off the floor and offered Maggie a hand. "Ok, tomorrow is another studio day. Going to call it a night."
"Are you ok to drive?" Sarah asked.
Maggie nodded. "Yeah, totally fine."
"Then get out and let me enjoy my Petty." Mitch roared in her direction and then winked. Maggie flipped him off with a smile.
"Night guys. See you tomorrow." Harry said. He led Maggie out with a hand on the small of her back. As they approached her convertible he reached up and stretched. A sliver of belly peeking out from his vintage Beastie Boys shirt. Before she could even have a lewd thought about it Harry had her pressed up against the sports car. "I haven't been able to kiss you all night."
"You were very well behaved."
"I think I deserve a reward." He gently kissed her mouth. His lips tugged at her bottom lip. A deep groan escaped him. "Come home with me?"
"Are you drunk Styles? Am I taking advantage of you if I say yes?"
"Mmm, God, I hope so." He let his fingertips wander up and down her hips. Maggie rolled her eyes. "Ugh. Get in the car."
He flashed his dimples at her as he jogged around the car and got in. 'Gonna let me control the music?"
"I guess just this once." Maggie's rules were her car - her music. She did not want to be forced to listen to an entire Wings album as Harry had done to her last weekend.
'Wildflowers' began to play as she pulled out of Mitch and Sarah's place. When Harry began to harmonize along with Tom Petty it was magic. He reached over and put his warm hand on her thigh. They shared a smile.
Easy. Casual. Maggie reminded herself.
A few weeks later ...
Harry yelled out in frustration. "I can't fucking write. I can't write songs anymore. I lost it." He tossed his journal onto the floor.
Mitch put his guitar down. "I mean that seems pretty fucking dramatic. It's only been a few days."
"Right a few days of nothing. I feel so fucking much and I just can't get it out. And what does come out is absolute, fucking rubbish.”
"You're forcing it man. Let it come." Kid sighed. "This song is sad. Maybe you don't want to write a sad song right now."
"I can't write any songs right now. I think we have established that. Nothing."
"Nah. I think you want to stay on theme. The breakup, the wounds but you aren't feeling that right now."
"Huh?" Harry asked, distracted as he checked his phone.
"Seriously?" Tyler rolled his eyes. "I thought we were device free until 3? How many times did you say that to me?"
"We're breaking soon, right?" He smiled as he typed a message.
"We are. You can't wait ten minutes until you see her though? Man do you have it bad." Tyler stretched out.
"She just wanted me to know she was here." Harry shrugged it off. Tyler, Tom, Mitch and Jeff had been giving him a hard time about his 'friends' status with Maggie. They had been hanging out a lot lately but who could blame him when the conversation was just as good if not better than the mind blowing sex they had been having. Harry truly felt like he was having his cake and eating it too. This was the very best friends with benefits set up he had ever had.
"Suuuure." Jeff rolled his eyes. "Harry just wants to text his girlfriend." Harry shot Jeff a glare.
"I think you've got it bad for this girl. I don't blame you. She is gorgeous and she is cool and totally not the type of girl you are going to be able to keep it casual with." Kid said from the board.
"Maggie is awesome. I agree. I'm just not in the right place after Colette to jump right into another relationship and she doesn't seem to be keen on being tied down either."
"Now that's between the two of you." Tyler smirked.
Suddenly the door to the studio opened. "Hey, hi. Hope I'm not interrupting?" Maggie stood in the doorway. She wore a red and yellow knee length circle skirt, white cropped spaghetti strapped tank. Her blonde locks were pulled back loosely in a clip with some tendrils escaping wildly but perfectly. Maggie's face was bare so her freckles popped on her lightly tanned skin. The strawberry lip oil she always wore kept her pouty lips glistening. Harry had to resist the urge to kiss her in front of everyone.
"Not at all. Just wrapping up." Mitch said. "So is there something waiting outside for us?"
At least once a week Maggie had been surprising the gang at Shangri La with fun little gifts. A mobile barista with a little coffee bar truck. Goat yoga. Massages the week before.
"I did. I hope it is very inspiring and comforting because I heard the rock star is having a bit of a day." She smiled, raising an eyebrow at Harry. He crossed his arms over his chest not moving from his spot on the couch. "You guys go ahead. I'll see if I can't cheer up this guy."
The guys all snickered. Kid mumbled, "I bet she can." Jeff wiggled his eyebrows.
Once they were alone Maggie straddled Harry's lap. "Spill it. What's up?"
"I mean nothing besides the fact that I lost the ability to write music." He huffed.
Maggie had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. This was a bit dramatic. "Oh yeah? When did this loss occur? How long are we talking?"
"Few days." He hated to admit it was after the last time he saw her. Maggie had been too busy to make it out to Malibu and he was too busy at the studio to go to her. He missed her and their time together.
"A few days? You big baby."
"Hey don't be mean to me I'm suffering here."
She gave him an exaggerated pouty face of her own. "Ok, ok. How can I help?"
His eyebrows shot up and smiled that wolfish smile he got when was about to be naughty. He puckered his lips and tapped them once with his index finger. Maggie leaned in and placed a soft wet kiss on him.
"Better?" She asked against his mouth.
"Lil mo." Maggie kissed again this time her tongue softly licked into his mouth. Harry's hands traveled down her sides, down the fronts of her thighs and began to creep under the hem of her skirt. Slowly his fingers crept between her thighs into the warm wetness beneath her underwear. She sighed at the first swipe through her folds.
"Here I was going to get on my knees for you. I thought you needed some help getting inspired." She bit into her bottom lip as Harry continued to stroke her.
Harry whispered into the shell of her ear. "Later baby, later. I just need a taste of you."
When Harry and Maggie emerged from the studio thirty minutes later everyone was most definitely talking. For a group of men they certainly acted like a bunch of old women in a small town quilting circle.
"Is this my surprise?" Harry lit up as he saw dogs roaming around the grounds. Each had a handler in a matching shirt with the name of the animal charity Liza and EJ founded.
"Dogs and ice cream." She pointed to the Salt and Straw cart. Harry quickly pinched her bum and gave her a wink. It took all of his self control to not pull her body into his and kiss her strawberry oiled lips.
Casual? Easy? It seemed like it was getting harder every day to keep it that way no matter what either of them said.
A few more weeks later...
"Oh, oh - yes. H, just like that." Maggie cried out in pleasure.
"Like that baby? Right there?" Harry continued to thrust up into her as his fingers worked her swollen bud.
"Ahh - yes, yes, yes." She chanted quietly.
"C'mon love, c'mon." His hips picked up speed. Maggie bounced back harder and faster to meet his movements. A scream ripped from her body as she squeezed and shook around him. Another moment and he toppled over the edge behind her.
Maggie collapsed on top of him. She focused on getting her breathing back to normal. He pushed her hair back off her face as she smiled down at him.
Harry pulled her in for a kiss. She rolled off to his side and threw a leg over him. He stroked her hair.
"Fuck Mags. You're going to put me in traction." He said kissing the top of her head.
"I had to make it good. I'm going to be gone for four days."
Harry and Maggie had been spending even more time together now that she had some down time. He loved having her around the studio and on the fringes of his album recording.
His album started off serious and sad. It was starting to feel lighter, sexier. Maggie was just the muse he needed. While the crew was eating ice cream or playing with puppies or doing goat yoga he was finding a quiet place with Maggie. He couldn't get enough of her.
It wasn't all sex. She was funny and so smart. Just when you thought you knew her she threw a curveball at him. He found himself telling her things he didn't normally talk about. He hated being without her too long.
They weren't even officially dating. Both of them were scared to define it too much. Neither had much luck in relationships and maybe if they kept this casual for a while longer they could work it out.
Now Maggie was leaving for five days. Every year they took their production company staff on a retreat to Palm Springs to thank them but also to work a bit. The trip always sparked creativity. Maggie traditionally loved this trip. She just didn't want to leave Harry to go. It was a strange sensation for her being that she was never really this enamored with a man before. It was probably good for them. They had been hot and heavy for weeks. Plus Harry could probably do a lot more work on the album if they weren't always fucking in a supply closet or bathroom at the studio.
"A week feels too long,"he complained as he kissed her neck.
"Yeah, yeah. First of all it is technically not a full week. Four days. You'll be locked in a studio with all the guys. I'll be back before you notice I'm gone. "
"Only part of that is accurate. I will definitely be locked in a studio. However, I will absolutely notice you are gone."
Maggie caught a glimpse of the bedside clock. Just after 8am. Fuck! "I am going to be late. The girls will be here in like 45 minutes." She jumped out of bed. "I have to get in the shower."
"Do you want company?"
"God help you if you try to get in my shower Harry Styles. My sister will murder us both if I'm late."
"Liza," Harry groaned.
"Yup that one." Maggie disappeared into the bathroom.
Harry got up to make coffee. He knew Liza hated him. Maggie never denied it when he brought it up. She just shrugged it off. Harry could admit it ate at him a bit. He hated being disliked. He had been working with his therapist on that. Thankfully their interactions had been minimal.
Maggie appeared a few minutes later in ripped blue jeans, a cropped white tee and Chanel espadrilles slip ons. Her hair was wavy and held back with an Hermes scarf fashioned as a headband. She rolled her bag behind her.
Harry handed her a travel tumbler. Maggie wrinkled her nose. Her lips curled up into a smile. "You made me coffee?"
"I mean I'm no barista but it was the least I could do."
She took a long sip. Oat milk. No sweetener. She loved that he knew her coffee order. He pulled her in to kiss her. Was it possible he was missing her already?
A car horn blared from down on the street. "Liza?" He asked.
"I mean who else would beep this early?"
"Let me take your bag down for you."
Maggie locked up behind her. Harry rolled her bag. Liza's large SUV was pulled half into the driveway and half into the street. All the windows were rolled down. Liza and Alex up front. Dayna and Jamie in the 3rd row. Hillary in the second row.
"Good morning ladies." Harry smiled and waved. A chorus of "Hello" carried out the windows. All of them except Liza smiling widely and giggling like school girls.
Harry put the bag in the already open trunk and then slammed the hatch. Liza's eyes watching him in the rear view. He turned to Maggie. Suddenly her eyes went big. "Shit, I have to go back in. I can't go to the desert without sunglasses."
She turned to go back in. "Ooh baby no need. Take these." He pulled her in close and pulled the tortoise Ray-Bans from the top of his head and put them on her face. She pulled them up to the top of her head so she could see him unobstructed.
"Styles to the rescue. Thank you." She got up on her toes to kiss him. He leaned down and pulled up by the backs of her thighs to meet him. He gave her a kiss he hoped would last four days.
The horn honked. "The bus is leaving." Liza shouted. Alex put her head in her hands.
Maggie let a laugh escape. Harry smiled at her. " I think she's warming up to me." They walked hand in hand to the back door. "Have a safe trip. Let me know when you get there." Reluctantly he dropped Maggie's hand but not before giving it a quick kiss. He swatted her behind as she got in the SUV. She yelped.
"Goodbye ladies. Have fun!"
A car full of happily married women, swooned in unison. Well except for Liza of course.
Liza pulled away abruptly and hit the button to roll the windows up. Maggie leaned back. Slid Harry's sunglasses on and sipped her coffee.
She counted the seconds before the interrogation would start. Hillary piped up first, "Spill it. All of it. I want all the sexy details."
Liza barked, " I can probably live without that."
"Too bad you're outvoted." Jamie yelled up to her. Liza could be rough on people but her girlfriends didn't let her get away with anything. She wasn't Boss Lady Liza with them. She was Liza, their best friend since Girl Scouts.
"First of all did he literally just lift you off the ground by your ass to kiss you? Fuck that is hot." Dayna sighed while pretending to smoke a cigarette.
She blushed. "Hmm what can I tell you? He is recording an album. He spends all of his time in the studio right now." Maggie shrugged.
"And the rest of his time in you." Alex cracked herself up. Liza shot her a look and moved to turn on the radio. Alex knocked her hand away.
Maggie had nearly spit her coffee out when Alex said that. "You are a bunch of dirty old birds."
"Listen kid, I've been having sex with the same man since George W. was in office. So you are going to have to give me some fun details. I believe I am entitled." Hillary whined.
"We've been together nearly non stop for like the last, I don't know, a few weeks. Since we met at that shitty Martin Graves party.  The sex is outrageously good. Like my vagina needs this vacation though."
"I actually didn't see that coming. Good looking guys are traditionally not great lays. When you're pretty you don't even have to try. " Dayna said. "Remember that hot pizza delivery guy in college? Cute but such a dud in the sack."
"No Day he was not hot. That was the guy who looked like the lead singer of Color Me Badd, right?" Liza laughed.
"You dated a guy with a neck tattoo so..." Dayna countered.
"No, I slept with a guy who had a neck tattoo. One time. One time I drank too much Mr. Boston and fucked a guy with a neck tattoo. You bitches are going to put it on my tombstone."
Maggie loved all of these ladies so much. High school was terrible for her but Liza and Alex's friends made Maggie their little sister too. She loved their stories and antics. As the company flourished they came out West to learn the business and take part. It was so nice to have everyone here.
"OK so back to actual hot guys. Harry. Oh Harry." Hillary smiled leaning back. "Are we official? Are we serious? It sounds serious. It looks serious. You admit he has practically broken your vagina."
Maggie leaned back too. She touched the frames on her face. She pressed her lips together remembering the feeling of his goodbye kiss.
"Honestly we haven't talked about it at all. I mean I don't think he's seeing anyone else. Not sure when he would have time. I'm not seeing anyone else. I really like being with him. I'm just not ready to label it. Every time I get too excited about something the universe steps in and crushes me. I'm not ready to be crushed yet."
Alex turned around quickly. "Mags, that's not how this works. You deserve to be happy. You work so hard. Being in limbo isn't always fun or healthy though."
Dayna called from the back, "Have the conversation. Lock that good sex down."
"But if he gets a neck tattoo - he's out." Jamie said as she pulled a hard seltzer from a cooler in back.
"Now that is good advice because these bitches will never let you live it down." Liza sighed. "OK road trip music must commence."
Harry made it to the studio on time. Funny enough, he seemed to only ever be the one to do that. He let himself in and puttered around the immaculate kitchen. He opened a can of nitro cold brew coffee and stretched.
The door opened behind him. When he turned he nearly dropped the can in his hands. It wasn't an engineer or Mitch. It was Colette.
When their eyes met she unleashed a big toothy smile at him. He was stunned. For once he didn't have words.
"Surprise 'arry." She said with her lovely French accent.
"Yes, yes it is. What are you doing here?" Harry put the can down.
"Our mutual friends are having an anniversary party and invited me. I thought I would come and drop in and make sure that was OK. Check in on you. "
The mutual friends were Kid/Tom and Jenny. He totally forgot the party was Saturday night. He was sure someone mentioned the model was invited but he had been so caught up in all things Maggie that not much but her stuck in his head.
"Of course it's OK. It's good to see you." And it was. Colette was the sole focus of his previous year. Their tumultuous relationship had shaped a lot of this album. It shaped a lot of why he was having a hard time wanting to make things more defined with Maggie.
Harry leaned in and hugged her. She hugged him back and kissed his cheek. Her hands lingered on his back a minute. She softly scratched at that spot on low on his spine that made him weak in the knees. Harry allowed himself to breathe her in.
Wasn’t she still dating that trust fund baby? Harry and Colette talked quite frequently via text but he never asked her about him. He never wanted to hear about him. They were 'just friends' because when they broke up he still wanted to keep a piece of her with him. The last few weeks were the first time since they parted he didn't feel compelled to Google her or text first.
"I'm not here to interrupt. I just wanted to see you. Maybe you will be up for dinner later?" She asked.
"That would be nice." Harry heard himself accept before really thinking it over.
Colette leaned in and quickly kissed his mouth. "I'll text you later." Just as quickly as she appeared, she disappeared.
"Was that?" Mitch asked as he entered the kitchen.
"It was."
"And..."
"She wanted to make sure we would be cool at the same party on Saturday night. I
totally forgot she was going."
"Are you bringing Maggie? Is she bringing the dude she is with?"
"Maggie gets home from Palm Springs on Saturday. She wasn't sure she would be up for a party. And I don't speak to Colette about her love life so I have no idea. However she invited me out to dinner tonight so maybe I'll hear more then."
"Dinner? Is that inviting trouble?" Mitch raised an eyebrow.
"Let's hope not."
Maggie got checked into her hotel suite. Everyone was changing into swimwear for a poolside mixer. She was already feeling a little buzz from Jamie's cooler full of fun. She rummaged through her luggage until she found her white string bikini with navy embroidery.
She set her phone up on the wireless charger on the dresser in the bedroom. "Hey siri, FaceTime, H" Maggie pulled her shoes off as she waited to see if he would answer.
"Hello." Harry's beautiful face appeared.
"Hello. I'm here. I'm alive. Charging my phone. Rushing to get changed. How is it going there?" She asked.
"Pretty good. Productive. Finished an entire song. " Harry proudly exclaimed.
"You did? So that makes three in the can, right?"
"It does. So how was the ride out?" He asked.
"Good. Fun. Jamie had a cooler of drinks so if you'll excuse me I'm halfway to white girl wasted." She giggled. "Keep talking to me. I'm gonna step over here and change. I have to get back downstairs."
"You are such a tease." He shouted as he watched her throw her pants in camera view.  Harry gave an exaggerated groan. “Ugh you are such a bad girl.”
"You only know half of it." She laughed, and she returned to the camera clad in her bikini.
Harry made a wounded sound at her appearance.  "I may not survive four days. You look gorgeous. Come back to LA wearing that immediately. "
"Keep working hard and four days will have come and gone before we know it. Then I'm all yours." She leaned into the camera, blew a kiss and then quickly pulled the triangle of her bikini top over to give Harry a clear view of a nipple.
"Maggie," He growled, "I can be there in two hours."
"Less with the way you drive but don't you dare. Go back to work. I have to finish getting drunk with my friends." She beamed.
"Give me a twirl in that first." He encouraged her. She turned slowly so he could take her in.
"So this meets your approval."
He let out a loud whistle. She blew him another kiss. He blew one back. "Go have fun."
"Go back to work.."
"Miss you." He said seriously.
Maggie was completely taken by surprise. It has been just a few hours but the truth was she missed him too. So yeah maybe these four days apart was a good idea. Maybe they could get some perspective on what they wanted from one another.
“It was such a perfect night ‘arry.” Colette sighed as she looked up into Harry’s face. ‘I have really missed you.”
The whiskey was warm in his belly, the breeze from the ocean settled over him. This moment felt like one of his dreams. Colette was back, she looked beautiful, they weren’t fighting. He reached his hand out to her. She took it.
“It was a really nice night. I’m glad we did this.”
“Do you want to come up to my room for a drink? I have a lovely view on the balcony.” Her eyelashes fluttered and the waves of her hair lightly rustled up in the breeze making her look ethereal.
“I’ve probably had enough to drink but I’ll walk you upstairs.” Harry knew he was playing with fire. He needed to keep his mind clear. No more booze. He wasn’t ready to let go of Colette just yet though. The night had gone too well.
Harry squeezed her hand gently and followed her.
Maggie had sobered up after having some dinner and a strong espresso. She had to do some script reading tonight before more fun tomorrow. After dinner when she returned to her room she realized she had left her phone behind charging. She was a little disappointed when there were no messages from Harry, Sure they had talked already today, a few times so really she should just be happy. Normally he said goodnight to her though.
‘Get a grip. You sound like a very intense girlfriend.’ she told herself. Maggie put the script aside and laid back. She turned off the lights and tried to get comfortable in the unfamiliar bed. She tossed and turned for another forty five minutes.
The phone on the nightstand buzzed to life.
From Harry : I hope you had the very best day. Good night sweet girl.
She typed back, ‘Only three more days to go. Good night.’
