Studio Ghibli—films for the soul.
Or so goes the logic, according to one mysteriously unattributed quote beloved across the internet. It reads in full: "Disney movies touch the heart, but Studio Ghibli films touch the soul." This line is beloved, of course, because something in it rings true; something here resonates.
The #studio ghibli films, beginning with 1984's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind until this year's release The Boy and the Heron, are loved and acclaimed universally for their beauty, joy, sadness, and sheer sense of spirit. These are, in some ways, deeply romantic movies with rich characters and complex plots, which deal with a wealth of themes in the studio's singular and elusive style. Yet despite these otherworldly, fantastical qualities, there is something in these films that seems to touch on something universal, despite its deep rootedness in Japanese culture, custom, and mythology. And let it be said that animated food has never looked so good—and *never* will do again.
(P.s. Dear Reader, as Spirited Away, maybe the studio's most iconic film, prepares to arrive in Europe as a stage production, let it be said that I, Author Unknown, got tickets in the presale yesterday. Come, rejoice with me.)

^ me when I finally finished making this set. I spent four months working on it (two and a half of those were JUST the icons). But my main mindset when making this set was to really do as much as I possibly could, because there are SO MANY amazing movies and characters and everyone has their favorite and I wanted to do my best to have something for everyone! 🌿🌸🩷 This has been a LABOR for sure, but I also poured as much love as I could into it! So this was also me (and my sisters xD) when I finished:

LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky
Tumblr media
Released in 1986, the movie is yet another Studio Ghibli hit written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. the movie revolves around the story of two children ; Sheeta and Pazu.
Sheeta has runaway from the sky bandits and finds herself waking up in Pazu's home the next day. She was quick to realize the fact that the bandits were after her magical necklace that she keeps around her neck most of the time.
Meanwhile, Pazu enlightens her about the floating city of Laputa and how she can help him find it and it might as well just turn out to be her way back home.
Tumblr media
it is a continuous run from the bandits and officials who are after the necklace for the duo. They finally find help from an eccentric man living in an old abandoned mine cave and how he is certain of Laputa's existence. He also takes them into account of the material the necklace is made of , Aetherium, the mineral that makes the mine cave glow. Sheeta from there reveals to Pazu her secret connection to the lost city and soon after that they are taken into hostage by the officials in a fortress.
The bandits help the duo escape in favor to help them find the floating city as well, which they do after following the directions from the necklace.
Tumblr media
Sheeta and Pazu safely land on the Laputa and find a peaceful robot living over there and discover about the history of the palace from the remains of it. The officials were quick to catch up with them and wish to use the treasure and technology of the city for their own good. Sheeta, being a descendant of the city feels it is her duty to protect it from being exposed to the world. She, Pazu and the bandits are quick to put up a strong fight against the army men for the welfare of the city.
The movie is jam packed with action, fantasy, adventure and is a treat for everyone. The recommended audience would be 7+. The movie consists of plot twists the audience won't even see coming and makes it a perfect movie to watch with your friends during a slumber night.

Riku: Island Breeze
I was going to put this in my combat analysis, but it absolutely deserves its own post.
In 358/2 days, Riku wields Oblivion/Bygone Memories for the final encounter he has with Roxas. Having called out to him and realized that Roxas really is Sora’s nobody, Riku goes all out to bring him to Castle Oblivion where his best friend is sound asleep, having his memories pieced back together.
During this iconic battle, Riku is specifically vulnerable to Aero: the power of wind.
Tumblr media
Why is this relevant, you might wonder. Riku is associated with a fair handful of things: bat wings, darkness, fleur-de-lis, but not wind.
On the contrary, Riku has a little known fondness for the wind. You could even say, it makes him feel nostalgic.
Tumblr media
Fair enough, Roxas can hurt Riku with the wind because he misses the island breeze. Neat gameplay detail, no big deal. But if I can compel you to peer just a little closer… Because this is Riku— the guy who spent his days gazing enviously at the sea and the sky and brooding over his dark angsty feelings. This time, it actually is that deep.
In other words Riku is weak to Roxas’ Aero attack because it reminds him of Sora.
Sounds like a reach, right? Allow me to demonstrate.
Tumblr media
This passage alone is insane, but there’s more.
While Riku is elsewhere in Castle Oblivion reminiscing, Sora battles Repliku for the first time. This is before they have both been consumed with false memories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything about this exchange is so Riku. It’s all of the real Riku’s messy, complicated feelings dialled up to 100 and Repliku doesn’t even understand why he’s having these thoughts. Sora is clueless of course.
So he runs away, and as he leaves, Sora picks up this…
Tumblr media
After defeating Repliku, Sora finds the Aero card. The island breeze. Riku’s memories of chasing each other, rolling in the sand together, of jealously watching from afar as Sora and Kairi grew closer.
The way poor Repliku’s dramatic ass just drops it and runs away lmao
Some time later, following the second battle against Repliku, Sora obtains his lost Oblivion/Bygone Memories keyblade after talking to Namine. Wonder why Namine had that keyblade. Probably just a coincidence…
I’ll close this post with a few more of Riku’s thoughts.

Chain of Memories:
“The wind brushed through Riku’s hair.
I wonder if I really will meet someone from my memories in this castle… I want to meet— Sora. More than Kairi, more than anything, I want to see Sora. I want to see him— and apologize.”
