Spoilers for Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #4!
As you can see here, the Legion of Doom gets dragged into a conflict they weren't sure they wanted to handle, and things don't go well for them.  Deathstroke's gang of co-opted goons infects the LoD with the controlling goo from the Great Darkness...or at least maybe some of them, because Lisa, Mick, and Digger aren't there.  Scarecrow appears briefly at the table in the first scene, but isn't shown afterwards.  It's too early to tell whether the missing Rogues and Scarecrow will show up uninfected to help save the day next issue, or if we're meant to assume they were there and the Darkness grabbed them too.
Anyway, the last page reveals that a new Multiverse has been born, and if you've read this week's issue of Flashpoint Beyond it seemingly spoils the end of Dark Crisis.  It's tough to say what this will mean for the DCU, if only because the Flashpoint Beyond issue was very much words, words, words about it all.  Plus, as I've already said, was anyone clamouring for the return of Hypertime?  But it seems like DC's on a bit of time kick at the moment, and they do love mucking with their multiverses and omniverses.  I just want some good Rogues stories, darn it.

So we all know the Hawthorne brothers are all fine as heck Texan born-and-raised gentlemen which means other than the fancy schmancy stuff they do throughout the series, they probably know how to ride. And I don’t mean English riding, I mean down and dirty in the dusty sand, bucking bronco Western riding. Given that ole Tobias Hawthorne was loaded, not only did he make riding lessons an essential for his grandsons but he also owned a big-ass stable on his property. I know it’s never mentioned in the books, only that Vincent Blake owns a ranch, but you can’t convince me otherwise that this Texan billionaire didn’t have his own stable on the property. No chance, no way; I think he’d be considered a fraud if he didn’t. Anyways, when the boys were comfortable in the saddle and more skilled with controlling their horses and riding, only then did their grandfather start making them choose specialties. As they got older, they took part in rodeos and competitions, producing another bout of trophies for the old man to put up in his office. Like always, the boys proved Hawthornes came and conquered, being the best of the best.
Nash-Of course, this man’s the best of the bunch. He is the most experienced and rather well rounded in all disciplines. It’s part of what lets him live his cowboy fantasies but he does have practical use for what he learned. His grandfather has many prized cattle breeds, mostly the famous Texas Longhorns along with Ankole-Watusi, American  Brahman, and even water buffalo (Hawthorne cheese is where it’s at) so he often leads the cattle roundups and if he ain’t a sight to see when he’s  roping up stray calves (those muscles though; I see you Nash). As said earlier, he’s pretty good at everything in this style of riding but competitively, he’s mostly into western pleasure yet also enjoys reining just about as much. His Appaloosa-Quarter Horse mare, Chili Pepper (yes, named by the one and only Xander and no, it’s not because of Horseland; if you know,  you know) excels at these and is a bit of a showoff (Nash is pretty sure the feisty thing is self-aware whenever she prances sassily around the ring after a win). But, for them, that’s easy stuff, light work, and Nash likes a bit of an adrenaline rush now and then so on the more energetic side of things, his favorite event is  cowboy mounted shooting. In practice, he’d sometimes sneak out one of his grandfather’s Winchester rifles to get a kick out of it (lowkey this boy always tried finding small ways of rebelling against his grandfather’s wishes). However, when he was 19, he quit the rodeo shows and big competitions in another effort to show the old man he didn’t have control over him and that actions spoke louder than words. Nowadays, Nash does mostly local events for the fun of it but has attended some major ones  in the last few years, twice at the State Fair and once at the Calgary Stampede; Xander and Jameson even went with him in a show of support.
Grayson-Though he prefers English riding and excels in classic dressage, his Western specialty is cutting and his Arabian stallion, Onyx (known as Bandit Noir in the show ring) is a nightmare for the calves when he starts switching sides at lightning speed with his front legs. Sometimes he gets so excited after Gray has singled out a calf that he starts zipping towards it in a zigzag motion that Grayson has to restrain him a bit so that he doesn’t go overboard. When he was younger, he trained him to do this move after he watched  a documentary showing gazelles use this technique as an evasive maneuver to escape cheetahs and thought it was a cool trick. He perfected it in two months flat. His Shagya Arabian mare, Moonlight, is more calm but  her focus is unmatched when she’s cutting and she’s also his chosen horse for working equitation. Grayson was the one who inspired  Xander to also  learn this discipline and they would do training sessions together; he also let his youngest brother ride Moonlight in competition at times. Surprisingly, he also did barrel racing alongside Jameson and of course, these two got very competitive over this sport. They set several records at competitions and even a few national records at rodeo events but Jameson had more in the end.
Jameson-Barrel racing, need I say more? It’s his favorite event and discipline of choice. The faster his horse goes, the better the thrill and the dizziness to go along with it. His Nokota stallion, Rhubarb, is the speediest barrel racer of the Hawthorne horses and proudly bred by his grandfather. For fun,  he would get more barrels and see how fast he could go bareback and one time the crazy boy decided it would be a good idea to ride backwards while his steed ran the course. Of all the brothers, Jamie’s the one who loves the riskier events (because of course, not that that’s surprising) including saddle and  bareback bronc riding, calf-roping, steer wrestling, even bull riding (steer riding until he was 14). But he’s also the one who has the most bruises and scars from Western events. He was banned from doing bull riding after Nan attended two of his competitions and both times the rider before him had a nasty fall, ending up in hospital. Jameson may have never fallen in the most major competitions but he did have some close calls with being almost run over and even suffered a bad kick to the ribs during one of his practice runs. Although the old woman is weathered from her rough years and is still a badass, she still cares for her great grandsons very much and hates to see them get hurt. So as reluctant as he was to leave the sport, for his Nan, he did. Occasionally he also participated in team roping with Nash, always taking up the heeler position while his brother handled the horns because Nash didn’t want him to get hurt until he got older and insisted on trying the header part for himself. He got used to it quickly from all the times he watched Nash during practice seshes but his oldest brother always watched off to the side with pursed lips knowing his risky behavior. They were three time champions in a row from 2016-2018 with one time him being header. Being the adrenaline junkie he is, it’s no shock that he loves doing stuff at breakneck speeds and other than barrel racing, he is amazing at pole bending. Jameson enjoys a good test of agility and has a great Mustang-American Paint mixed mare named Misty who whizzes by the poles so quickly that everyone in the stands is always quoted saying they blinked and missed the entire round.
Xander-He was a bit more reluctant to even start out any events but Nash and Grayson coaxed him into them and eventually he got settled quite quickly into trail class, working cow horse, mounted drill with Jameson and Grayson, and versatility ranch riding. He dabbled in western dressage but got annoyed with it because he never felt synchronized enough with his horse and his trainer got frustrated with him many times. Trail class ended up being his major and he trained with two Quarter Horses that were bred by his grandfather, Rona and Rolo (nicknamed Roly Poly). He would switch between the two and both were extremely good at delivering but Rona, his mare was ultimately better equipped and motivated while his gelding, the mare’s full blooded younger brother served better in mounted drill. Xander conducted experiments to see as to why but it seemed like the gelding thought the routines were simpler to learn and always finished with a happy buck when they finished. But as he got older and hit his growth spurt, Xan felt like his height was becoming a negative factor to riding anymore of his horses in competitions so he stopped. His grandfather offered to buy him a ready, trained horse better suited to his stature so he could continue but Xander declined since he didn’t want to restart with training and he was awfully attached to Rona and Rolo. Instead, he continued competing but in halter and western showmanship classes where his horses shined just as brightly with shiny ribbons often being pinned to his horses’ halters as a prize.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed this! This has been sitting in my drafts way too long but @hathorneheiress has given me the push I needed to get it out here for you guys to read. It's only part one of my horse headcanons. There will be more about the Hawthorne family's current horses and their equine history in the next one.

Bluey: New Beginnings
This is a short, one-shot fanfic I wrote after watching all of the current Bluey. I had been holding off on posting it for proof reading from others, but I want it posted before I switch over to the new year.
Hope anyone who reads this enjoys!
This is the story about a very particular family of dogs, living amongst many others in the country of Australia, and the start of a new and exciting chapter in their lives. This family was known as the Heelers, and it consisted of the father, Bandit, the mother, Chilli, the older daughter, Bluey, and the youngest daughter, Bingo.
One summer evening, the family had plans to spend an evening with other relatives at a fancy restaurant, a dinner they had been planning for weeks. “Come on kids,” Chilli said, “we don’t want to be late for our reservation!” Chilli and Bandit waited by the front door for their rambunctious daughters to come downstairs from their room. “Coming!” the children exclaimed as they quickly made their ways down the steps.
“Which restaurant are we going to again?” asked Bluey. “The nice one that has the fancy crayons you kids like.” Replied Bandit, ushering the kids out the front door. “And who’s going to be there again?” inquired Bingo, slowly skipping her way to the car. “Us, Uncle Stripe, Aunt Trixie, your cousins, and Aunt Brandy. It’s been a long time since we all had dinner, especially with Brandy.” Chilli explained in a rushed tone. “Which means you two can have fun, but not too much fun. We need you to be on your best behavior. Got it?” Bandit stated. “We promise!” the girls exclaimed.
The family got in their car and drove out towards the restaurant, and as they did, the family noticed a moving van parked in the driveway of the house just at the end of their street. Making them all a bit curious. “Ooh look, someone’s moving into that house. Does that mean we’re getting new neighbors?" Bluey asked excitedly. “It does indeed. To be honest, I hadn’t realized the previous owners moved out.” Replied Bandit. “I hope they’re friendly.” Bingo said as she watched the moving van leave her view.
The drive to the eatery wasn’t long, but the trip felt even shorter as the girls sang a little song, and the parents talked about what they were planning on ordering. Once they arrived, they struggled for a moment finding a place to park their car, but were lucky enough to snag one as another car was leaving. They all got out and met with Aunt Brandy, who was waiting outside the front door for them.
“Hi Brandy! Oh, it’s so good to see you!” Chilli said as she gave her sister a big hug. “It’s good to see you too, Chili.” Brandy said as she returned her sister’s hug. “Bandit, glad to see you’re no longer eaten by a cheetah.” Brandy said jokingly as she hugged the blue Heeler. “And how are my nieces doing?” Brandy asked as she knelt to hug the two young dogs. “We promised to be on our best behavior tonight.” Bluey said, changing her voice to a mockingly fancy tone. “We will be making only the prettiest of crayon drawings.” Bingo said, mimicking her sister.
“You haven’t seen Stripe or Trix yet, have you?” Chilli asked as she looked around for the other Heelers. “I haven’t, sorry.” Brandy replied. “I’m sure they’ll be here shortly. I say we get in and grab our table before someone knicks it.” Bandit said as he opened the door to the restaurant. They all went in and were shown to their table, passing by large potted plants and a big aquarium filled with all sorts of marine life. The children were stricken with awe at the sight of it all, showered upon by the atmosphere lit up by golden chandeliers.
The family was seated in a large table just enough in view of the front door, which was perfect so they could keep an eye on the remaining party members. Shortly after, however, Chilli got a text on her phone. “Oh no! Trix just texted me, Muffin and Socks got sick so they can’t make it.” Chilli explained in a sad tone. “Are they going to be alright?” Bluey asked, concerned for her cousins. “Yeah, they’re going to be okay. Probably ate something they shouldn’t have at lunch.” Chilli said as she put her phone away, “I guess we’ll have to eat without them.”
Bingo felt sorry for her cousins, unable to draw with the fancy crayons and eat the yummy food. But something caught her attention as she heard an unfamiliar voice at the entrance, with an unfamiliar accent.
“Good evening. I’d like a table for me and my son here.” The voice came from a tall white dog wearing dark sunglasses. He had to be the tallest dog Bingo has ever seen in her life, and in his arms was a little dog with a cream-colored fur who looked to be only slightly older than her. “I’m sorry sir, but we haven’t gotten any tables left.” Said the reservations attendant. “Really? Nuts, that’s a shame!” said the dog as he looked at his son, “Sorry champ, looks like we’ll have to find another place to eat dinner tonight.”
The young dog’s ears drooped, “Okay daddy.” Bingo felt sad that they couldn’t eat at the fancy restaurant, but then she got an idea. “Dad, can they come eat with us? They have nowhere to sit, but we have spots for them because Uncle Strip and them can’t come!” Bingo said, pointing at the pair up front. “I’m not so sure, Bingo, we don’t even know them.” Bandit said scratching his neck. “Oh, why not? Maybe he’ll help with the bill?” Brandy protested, not taking her eyes off the father and his son. “Alright, alright. Bluey, you’re small and fast, go tell them they can come eat with us.” Bandit instructed. “Okay dad!” Bluey said as she hopped from her seat and made her way to the front door. “Excuse me, sir? More people were supposed to show up for dinner but couldn’t come. Would you like to eat with us?” Bluey asked, stopping the dog before he walked out. “Really? We would be very grateful, thank you!” the dog said excitedly, tail wagging.
Bluey nodded as she led the two to their table, the tall white dog sitting next Aunt Brandy, and his son next to him. “Hello everyone, thank you so much for letting us join you, I honestly don’t mean to intrude.” The dog said. “My name is Leo Wolfgang, and this is my son, Wasabi.” Leo said happily as he gestured towards his son. “Hello.” Wasabi said, giving everyone a little wave. “No worries, mate. I’m Bandit, this is my wife Chilli, her sister Brandy, and our daughters, Bluey and Bingo. Where are you two from?” Bandit reached out to shake hands with Leo which he gladly returned.
“We’re from the United States. Just got in today actually.” Leo said. “Is everyone from the United States as tall as you?” Bluey asked, very interested in meeting someone from another country. "Oh, you noticed that huh? Not a lot of dogs are tall like me. I’m only tall because I’m a wolfdog, part wolf and part husky to be exact.” Leo explained. Bluey and Bingo’s eyes lit up with excitement, “Wolfdog!?”
Chilli and Bandit looked at each other with concern because they knew that their kids were going to have tons of questions. “Now girls, before you start asking all the questions, I’m sure you both have, we should order our food.” Chilli said sternly. After the group ordered their food and drinks, Bluey and Bingo began asking their questions while they colored away on their provided pages.
“So, what’s it like being a wolfdog?” Bluey asked. “It’s not that different from being an ordinary dog, I’m just big.” Leo replied as he took off his large sunglass, revealing a large pair of pink-colored eyes.
“Ooh, you have such pretty pink eyes!” Bingo exclaimed. “Oh my, you’re albino?” Brandy asked suddenly. “Huh? What’s that?” Bluey asked with confusion. “It’s a medical condition that affects my body and takes out all the color of my skin, fur, and eyes. It also makes me sensitive to sunlight, so I wear special sunglasses and use special sunblock.”
“My, my, Mr. Wolfgang, you sure are quite the interesting character,” Brandy said, “but, then how did you have Wasabi?” Bluey and Bingo were once again puzzled, “what does she mean Mr. Wolfgang?” Bingo asked. “Oh, I-I didn’t mean to-“ Brandy started as she realized what she had said, but Leo gave her a look of reassurance. “No need to worry, that’s perfectly fine. You see kids, a lot of those affected with albinism are not able to have babies.” Leo explained calmly.
“So, you’re not a wolfdog, Wasabi?” Bluey asked the young dog, who was very focused on drawing a picture of a lizard. “Huh? Oh, no. I’m a Samoyed, and my daddy adopted me!” Wasabi said with a smile before going back to his drawing. Chilli, Bandit, and Brandy’s eyes grew sympathetic towards the child. Brandy even found herself clutching her hand over her heart. Leo went on to lighten the mood as everyone enjoyed their meals.
“Which of your parents is a wolf?” Bingo asked, wanting to learn more about Mr. Wolfgang. “My dad’s a wolf, and my mom’s a Husky.” Leo responded. “Do you have an siblings?” Bluey asked.  “No, I don’t have any, but I do have lots of cousins.” Leo said, emphasizing on the amount. He told them all about the different sites in America, as well as animals and food. Wasabi talked to the children about the games he plays and how he learns everything at home. Occasionally, Brandy would catch Wasabi staring at her, and each time she looked at him, he would give her a big smile. When his dad asked him why he keeps staring at her, Wasabi simply replied, “because I think she’s pretty.”
“So, Leo, how long are you Wasabi here on holiday?” Bandit asked. “Holiday? Oh no, this is our new home. We just moved in!” Leo answered excitingly. The family’s ears all perked up after hearing this. “Big house at the opposite end of a one-way street?” Chilli asked. “Yeah, you know the place?” Leo responded. “Yeah, that’s our street!” Bluey exclaimed. “We’re gonna be neighbors!” Bingo celebrated. “Wow what a small world! You here that champ? The Heelers are going to be our new neighbors!” Leo said rustling Wasabi’s head. “Hooray!” Wasabi threw his hands in the air in excitement, which was then followed by a noise coming from under the table.
“Uh oh. Daddy, my leg fell off again.” Wasabi said, shaking his father’s arm. The table fell silent as they all looked at Wasabi. “Did he say his leg…fell off?” Chilli asked. “Yeah, it happens from time to time,” Leo said as he reached under the table, “here it is! Now let’s get this back on bud.” Leo held up a prosthetic leg with the same coloration as Wasabi’s fur.
“Aaah, it is a leg! His leg fell off!” Bingo exclaimed. “I was in an accident when I was a baby. I lost part of my left leg.” Wasabi said as he was stood up so that his prosthetic could be reattached. “Made it myself. That’s what I do for a living actually, I design and make prosthetic limbs for those who need them.” Leo explained, making sure Wasabi’s leg was on tight.
“Does it hurt?” Bluey asked. “No, but I do get ghost itchies sometimes.” Wasabi said as he sat back down. “What are ghost itchies?” Bingo asked. “It’s where you feel like you have an itch on somewhere you can’t scratch anymore because it isn’t there.” Bandit explained. “There was a severe car crash one night. His parents didn’t make it and his leg was so banged up they had to amputate. That’s actually where I met Wasabi, and I couldn’t stand the thought of him going through life by himself. So, I adopted him, and it was the best decision I ever made.” Leo explained quietly to the parents.
“Daddy, I have to go to the bathroom.” Wasabi said suddenly. “Oh okay. We’ll be right back.” Leo said as he got up to escort his son to the bathroom. They now noticed that Wasabi has a bit of a limp in his walk due to his prosthetic.
“I like them.” Bluey stated. “Oh yes, they are very interesting.” Bingo added. “I agree. I hope we become good family friends.” Chilli toasted. Chilli then felt a tap on her shoulder from her husband, “hey babe, look at Brandy.” Bandit whispered. Chilli turned to see that Brandy was still staring in the direction of where Leo and Wasabi went. “You doing okay, sis?” Chilli asked, nudging her sister’s shoulder. “Oh! Y-yeah, I’m alright. They sure are something huh?” Brandy said with a hint of embarrassment.
Chilli and Bandit gave each other a smug look. Time passed and everyone had finished their meals. Leo was so grateful for the Heeler’s generosity he returned the favor by paying for the entire dinner. The Heelers said goodbye to the Wolfgangs and Aunt Brandy, and as they drove away Chilli was watching through one of the mirrors that her sister and Leo were still talking. A big grin came to her face when she saw Brandy write something down on a piece of paper and give it to Leo, both of their tails wagging.
“Babe, she actually did it!” Chilli said excitedly. “Aw, did I miss it!?” Bandit said trying to catch the act in the mirror. “What did you miss?” Bluey asked suspiciously. “We think your aunt likes Mr. Wolfgang.” Chilli said in a cheeky tone. The girls looked at each other and giggled. The family enjoyed their ride back home, knowing that they’ll see their new neighbors soon.
Days turned to weeks, which then turned to months. The Heeler family had become great friends with the Wolfgangs. They introduced them to their community that they know and love, to the food that they loved to eat, and the games they liked to play. The Wolfgangs in return, introduced the Heelers to foods and games they had back in America. And of course, they all had their fun with their differences in vocabulary.
Bluey and Bingo introduced Wasabi to their cousins, Muffin and Socks. The two girls took some time getting used to Wasabi’s handicap, but in the end, they saw him as any other kid they can play with. Wasabi showed interest in wanting to go to school with other kids so he could make more friends, so his dad had him enrolled. Wasabi ended up being in Bluey’s class where she got to introduce him to all her friends.
As more time went on, the Heelers got to see more and more of Wasabi after his dad started dating Aunt Brandy. Wasabi would come over for play dates while his dad and Brandy went on real dates. The children would play their games, and sometimes talk about what the adults were doing on their romantic dates.
This would continue for several months, until one fateful day.
Bluey, Bingo, and Wasabi were all in the kitchen drawing with crayons and talking about what they want to do in the future. “I think I want to go to space when I grow up.” Bingo said and she doodled a crayon rocket ship. “I want to build robots when I grow up. The robots would take care of all the hard work so that everyone can relax and play!” Wasabi exclaimed excitedly. Bluey was about to speak when the tablet began ringing, “Oh, who could that be?” Bluey asked as she picked up the tablet to answer.
She was surprised to see it was her Aunt Brandy video calling them, “hi Aunt Brandy!” Bluey said happily as she waved to her aunt on the screen. “Hi Bluey! Where’s your mum, I need to talk to her!” Brandy sounded very excited for some reason. “Okay, let me get her…Mom, Aunt Brandy is calling for you!” Bluey shouted into the house so that her mother could hear her.
A few moments later Chilli walked into the kitchen wondering what all the fuss was about. “Hey sis, what’s up? You look like you’re about to pop.” Chilli said as she took the tablet from Bluey. “He finally did it, Leo asked me to marry him, and I said yes!” Brandy squealed in excitement as she showed her sister the engagement ring on screen. “Brandy that’s wonderful! I’m so happy for you! Any details about the wedding?” Chilli’s tail was wagging vigorously for her sister. “Nothing yet, lots to plan. Do you want to be my maid of honor?” Brandy asked. “Of course I will, I’m your sister! I would have been devastated if you hadn’t asked me.” Chilli replied, joking about the last part. “Thanks Chilli, you’re the best! We’ll be by tomorrow morning to pick up Wasabi, bye!” Brandy said before ending the video call. “Bye sis, don’t have too much fun.” Chilli said in a cheeky tone before hanging up the tablet.
Chilli turned around to find the three kids standing in front of her, eyes wide, and tails wagging, “a wedding!?” They all shouted. “You all heard that did you? It’s true, looks like Leo and Brandy are getting married. But we don’t have any details yet, so we’ll all need to be patient until they tell us.” Chilli told the excited children. “Mrs. Heeler, does that mean Brandy is going to be my new mommy?” Wasabi asked with big, hopeful eyes. Chilli couldn’t help but give him a reassuring smile as she knelt to his level. “Yes, it does, Wasabi. And do you know what else that means?” Chilli asked him. “What?” Wasabi asked back, confused. “It means you’ll be our new cousin!” Bingo said, jumping for joy. The kids then all celebrated with a momentous, “hooray!”
Plans for the wedding were underway as more time had passed. Leo and Brandy decided not to have too big of a wedding because Leo has a very extensive family. Everyone who was invited said they would be able to attend, which included: the Heelers, Stripe’s family, Nana Heeler, Grandpa Mort, Leo’s parents, and the closest of Leo’s cousins. Wasabi was made the ring bearer while Bluey, Bingo, and Muffin were all made flower girls. There was going to be a special wedding cake, a band, lots of delectable food, and it wouldn’t be a wedding without a photographer.
The wedding was planned to be late fall because Leo’s family needed to fly in from America and didn’t want any delays or nasty weather interfering with the flight. The ceremony was set to take place outside, while the reception moves into a large gallery they had reserved. After all the preparations were made, and all the fine details made to perfection, the day had arrived.
Before the ceremony, everyone had the chance to mingle and meet one another. The Heelers met Leo’s parents first, Dusty, his mother, and Timber, his father. Timber, being a full-blooded wolf, towered over the other dogs, just like his son. His fur was a dark gray, he wore an eyepatch over his left eye, and he walked with a cane. Dusty was an average sized husky with gray and white fur. She seemed to have a lot of energy for an elderly woman, and she was so excited to meet everyone.
Then there were Leo’s cousins, a group of three huskies who introduced themselves from oldest to youngest: Buckets, Bolt, and Danger. Buckets was a male, black and white husky who works at a tree farm in Alaska. Bolt was male, brown husky who’s training for the next Olympics. Lastly, Danger was a female, red husky who works in pyrotechnics. They were Leo’s closest relatives growing up, almost inseparable, and they said they wouldn’t miss this wedding for anything in the world.
Bluey and Bingo were disappointed there weren’t any other kids for them to meet, but Wasabi explained his other cousins weren’t able to come and if they did, they would have needed a much bigger party room to celebrate.
After everyone had gotten to know each other better, it was time for the ceremony. The flower girls danced around dropping colorful petals along the ground, while Wasabi followed suit behind them holding the rings. The room was filled with tension, joy, anxiety, and love as everyone watched the bride walk down the aisle towards her groom at the altar. They exchanged their vows as they gave each other their rings and sealed it all with a kiss as the bride and groom became husband and wife. There was cheering, clapping, tail wagging, and a big wolf howl from Timber.
Everyone then went into the big ball room for the reception where they had food, drinks, and plenty of music. But before things got started, Cousin Buckets had a speech prepared. “Hey everyone! Best man Buckets here! Just wanted to say a few words for the newlyweds before we get too crazy. I wanted to say how happy I am for Leo and his new wife, Brandy. I’m glad I got to be here and witness these families coming together, and I know everyone else back home would have loved to be here too. They do send their best wishes though! Growing up, we knew Leo was different, and we respected him and loved him. I see him more like a brother to me than a cousin. I’m glad he found someone to love and share his life with. Cheers!” Buckets said as he raised a toast, to which everyone raised a glass in response.
Before he sat down, Buckets saw Wasabi tugging at his sleeve. “What’s up champ?” Buckets asked as he knelt. Wasabi whispered into Buckets’ ear, gripping a folded piece of paper. “You got it, bud!” Buckets picked up Wasabi and tapped on the microphone to get everyone’s attention. “Excuse me everyone, I know we’re all hungry, but Wasabi here says he wrote his own speech for this occasion.”
Leo and Brandy looked at each other excitedly, wondering what the little Samoyed was going to say. “Thank you everyone for being here. I would like to thank my new Uncle Bandit for helping me write this speech. When I met Miss Brandy and her family at the restaurant, I thought she was the prettiest lady I had ever seen. Whenever she looked at me, I couldn’t help but smile, and whenever she smiled, my tail would wag with happiness. Sometimes I could tell that my dad was sad because he didn’t have a wife, or that I didn’t have a mom. But now, my daddy is very happy because he has a wife, and not only does he have a new wife, but I have a new mommy!” After hearing the speech Brandy got up from her seat and ran over to the little boy and hugged him tightly as happy tears ran down her face. The crowd applauded Wasabi’s speech and affection for his parents. “I love you, my little champion, and I’m going to love you forever.”  Brandy whispered to her new son, and she kissed his head as she held him tight.
The reception went on naturally; with food, drinks, dancing, and plenty of photographs. After the hours flew, and the liveliness calmed down, Leo, Brandy, and Wasabi all went home as a family for the first time. Where they would live happily forever, and ever.

Words borrowed from other languages in English
Very incomplete list, based mostly on The Languages of the World (3rd ed.), Kenneth Katzner, 2002 + a heavy use of Wiktionary. some notes:
Many of these words have passed through multiple languages on their way to English (e.g. Persian -> Arabic -> Spanish -> French -> English); in that case I usually list them under the first language that used them in the same acception as English.
I generally don't include words whose ancestors already existed in Middle English, unless their origin was exotic enough to be interesting.
The vast majority of borrowings are terms very specific to their culture of origin; I generally only include those that are either very well known amng English-speakers, or of general use outside that culture.

Famous Five Art Nostalgia #LC04
Introductory post
Introduction to ‘Les Cinq’
Les Cinq au cap des Tempêtes – The Famous Five and the Missing Cheetah
Original publication date: 1972 (France), 1981 (UK)
Tumblr media
(Original cover by Jean Sidobre, 1972)
In this volume titled Les Cinq au cap des Tempêtes (lit. Five at Demon’s Rocks), the Five visit their old friend Tinker, who first made an appearance in Blyton’s #19 Five Go to Demon’s Rocks and came back in #21 Five Are Together Again.
As exciting as it is to revisit the extraordinary location that was the setting to the Five’s 19th adventure, don’t get your hopes up too much as the children will only make a brief visit there. It should also be noted that the lore surrounding the lighthouse has been slightly changed: in this story, the Haylings live in a large house in a village a few kilometers away from Kirrin Cottage, and the lighthouse is located off the coast of the same village. The lighthouse is not said to belong to the Hayling family; it is abandoned and in disrepair and has merely been “commandeered” by Tinker, who does not hold any owning rights. By contrast, in Blyton’s original lore, the lighthouse was stated as belonging to the Haylings, and it also seemed further away from Kirrin village as the Five had quite a long drive to reach it.
Now, let’s see what’s in store for our young detectives!
~~~~~~
Plot summary:
(Disclaimer: All provided translations are my own.)
The Five go to Demon’s Rocks to stay with Professor Hayling and his son, their friend Tinker. Along with Tinker’s monkey Mischief, the Five discover that another, rather unusual, pet has joined the Haylings’ household: a tamed cheetah named Attila, which was gifted to Professor Hayling by one of his friends.
Tumblr media
(Meeting Attila)
[TRANSLATION: Anne: Aaahhh ! Tinker: Don't be afraid, this is Attila, our pet cheetah. He's as gentle as a lamb. He was given to us by a friend of Dad's, an explorer.]
During their first night there, George is awakened by some noise and sees two shadowy silhouettes moving in the garden... The next morning, Attila has disappeared! The Five search the grounds with no results. Soon, Professor Hayling receives a ransom note that was left in the mailbox: Attila’s kidnappers cheetahnappers are demanding the formula for a groundbreaking, low-cost fuel newly-developed by the scientist. After weighing the pros and cons, Professor Hayling decides not to agree to the ransom.
Tumblr media
(Discussing the request for ransom)
[TRANSLATION: Julian: I understand, Professor Hayling, that Attila pales in comparison to such a discovery. Tinker: You can’t possibly give up your formula, Dad. Dick: By the way, have you sent your formula to the Ministry? Professor Hayling: No, not yet. Those bandits are well-informed. Tinker: Why don't you call the police? Professor Hayling: We’re short on time. I won't be at ease until my formula is at the Ministry. Going to the police would mean several hours wasted.]
Per the cheetahnappers' instructions, the Haylings’ housemaid, Jenny, is tasked with bringing the professor’s answer inside a wicker basket to a certain location in the woods. The children keep watch in the area, hoping to follow the bandits, but to their surprise a dog comes to fetch the wicker basket instead! The children follow the dog (a cocker spaniel) to a nearby beach but they are too late as the animal seems to have been picked up by the bandits who have then taken off in a boat.
Tumblr media
(Investigating on the beach)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: Anne makes a discovery at the water's edge. Anne: Footprints! George: And dog paw prints. Dick: All these tracks are heading towards the sea and stop at the water's edge. Julian: Blow!* George: So the bandits left in a boat with the cocker spaniel.]
[*Side note: I am ridiculously happy for this opportunity to use the outdated interjection “blow!” in one of my personal translations. I always find it very difficult to use old-timey language accurately, so this was a boon. 😁]
The next day, a letter arrives for Tinker, telling him to steal the formula from his father in exchange for Attila. Tinker is given four days to accomplish this task and the drop-off is arranged the same way as before. The children spend the next few days scouting the area in hope that Timmy will smell Attila’s trail, but to no avail. They also visit a nearby zoo, reasoning that not everyone is able to handle a cheetah and the culprit may work there, but they don’t accomplish anything other than Mischief living up to his name and making mischief with the resident monkeys.
George devises a plan for them to follow the cheetahnappers' boat after dropping off Tinker’s reply, taking advantage of a local boating festival, but the plan fails when the bandits don’t take the itinerary that the children expected them to.
Tumblr media
(The Five get to have fun at the festival, while poor Tinker is on watch duty at the drop-off point – bad luck for Tinker!)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: The Five enjoy the festival until the agreed time. Narrator (second panel): After a short meal, they get down to business and take up their observation post.]
Tinker receives a new three-day ultimatum and the children decide to capture the bandits' mail dog.
Tumblr media
(Making plans to capture the bandits’ dog)
[TRANSLATION: George: It's you, Timmy, who'll catch Filibuster*. Dick: And to be on the safe side, we'll take a fishing net with us. Narrator: A moment later, Tinker writes a note to the bandits...]
[*Note: The children do not know the dog's name and decide to call him Flibustier (lit. Filibuster).]
Tumblr media
(An adorable captive)
[TRANSLATION: Anne: Poor Filibuster! You don't look so scary. George (to both doggies): There! Here we go! You two make up.]
Realising that they can’t bring their dognapped hostage to Professor Hayling’s house, it occurs to Tinker that they can hide the dog in 'his' lighthouse.
When they arrive at the lighthouse, they are astonished to find Attila locked up in there, as the bandits chose this seemingly abandoned location to keep their captive away from prying eyes!
The bandits arrive at the lighthouse just as the children are discussing the situation and they only have time to hide. After some difficulties, they manage to evade the bandits and to escape by locking them up in the lighthouse. Meanwhile, a storm has risen, giving the children a few scares on the way back to the mainland.
Tumblr media
(The children are stuck in the lighthouse while the bandits are in the next room, and Tinker has an idea: he shows Mischief how to close and lock a door so that Mischief will do the same and thus lock up the bandits discreetly… Monkey see, monkey do!)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: The Five are desperate to find a solution when, suddenly, Tinker... Julian: Are you nuts? Tinker: Your turn, Mischief! Do as I do!]
Tumblr media
(This picture mainly for the view of the lighthouse in the storm)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: Outside, the storm is raging. Narrator (second panel): Mischief pushes against the door with all his might but... Anne: He'll never be able to do it.]
The police arrest the bandits, who were also wanted for other offenses in addition to cheetahnapping. The children go back to professor Hayling’s to celebrate their victory, and Tinker decides to adopt the cocker spaniel.
Tumblr media
(Let’s celebrate!)
[TRANSLATION: Narrator: After the storm has calmed, the children take their boat and head back to Professor Hayling's house. Jenny: Is that Attila? Where did you find him? Tell me all about it! Tinker: Not until we’ve had a good meal!]
~~~~~~
Fun lines:
There’s an adorable moment in the lighthouse when Dick is holding the cocker spaniel in his arms while the children are hiding from the bandits:
Translation:
“The little group climbed several steps. Dick had taken Filibuster in his arms and was talking to him in a reassuring voice, hoping that the cocker spaniel wouldn't start barking. But the dog, who was naturally placid, was only too happy to be cuddled to even think about making racket. The dog closed his eyes and let himself be rocked like a baby. […] Filibuster, a.k.a. Tommy, widened one eye and wiggled one ear upon hearing his owners’ voices. But Dick gave him a gentle squeeze and George stuffed a lump of sugar in his mouth. The dog was content and remained quiet.”
Cuuuuuuuute! 😍 I mean, Dick and the doggy are cute; George is… rather brusque!
[Note: Tommy is the dog's original name used by the bandits.]
~~~~~~
Cover art through the ages:
(Disclaimer: This is not an exhaustive list; sometimes the dates are difficult to pinpoint; and I have purposefully not included editions that re-used similar cover art, with differences only in layout and font style.)
Tumblr media
(Cover art by Jean Sidobre, Hachette, 1984 – minor layout changes compared to the original 1972 cover art)
Tumblr media
(Paul Gillon, Hachette, 1992 – the Five with their extended menagerie!)
Tumblr media
(Quite a peaceful scene depicted by Frédéric Rébéna, Hachette, 2011 – the red-and-white paint scheme makes for a striking visual, although it is not necessarily what I have in mind when I think about an abandoned lightouse in disrepair…)
Tumblr media
(Auren, Hachette, 2021 – facing the storm) [Note: You have to wonder where Tinker is, on all the modern covers…]
Thanks for reading!
part 6
Back with the Star Fox team, after a good description of the enemy ships made by Anabel, everyone on the team had realized that the ships were probably from Andross, which made Fox have anger on his face, trying not to show it...
— okay... we already know the enemy, we will do our best to help you — Fox said with a smile, which Anabel returned
—... I thank you from now on, Mr McCloud, and I will ask a squad to go out in search of the cheetah now, for now, I ask you to rest, my servants will take you to the retirees — while Anabel spoke, four female snakes green ones enter the room, around the Team, with cute smiles and curious red eyes, Falco felt one of them drying him with her eyes — at dawn, we started to create an attack plan, dismissed.—
the Team left the room and back to the red corridors, while the group walked with the friendly snakes, Fox was already thinking about plans, Falco tried to stare back at the perverted snake to see if he scared she, but she seemed to encourage her, Elisa yawned tiredly, Slippy still had sparkles in his eyes because of the empress, and Krystal-
— oh! Miss Krystal!—one of the servants who was in the empress's room, ran to Krystal, blushing and breathing heavily—the empress.. calls you..—
Krystal looked suspicious, she looked at Fox who looked suspicious but Krystal nodded
— see you soon! — she said while waving
but... returning to the desert where our villains were located, near the mother ship, there were Wolfen, four total, but there were only two bandits, Leon, and the owl, Yanter Talzel.
(okay, enough of this nonsense of not describing the original character!)
Yanter, a black owl with purple eyes and a yellow peak like her vest, but the black pants didn't match her fur, between her fingers, she had a cigar, she sat on the wing of her ship while talking to Leon, until Wolf approached
— I heard from some that they saw Arwing landing a little far from here, it must be our old enemies — Wolf said with a smile
— Oh... hehe... that's great, Yanter, do you think I can throw Falco into a very radioactive and deadly sea? — Leon asked with a macabre smile as he looked at the relaxed owl
— it's not impossible, it'll be fun to see who plays the other first~— she got up from the wing
— Where are you going? — asked the boss — Look for Panther, he disappeared a while ago, I'll be back soon ~ — Yanter said as he walked trying not to fall
Okay, so now I'm thinking about Psychonauts/Bluey crossovers
So, this takes place post PN2, but not too long, as Raz and the other JAs haven't gotte a big mission yet.
Then, news come in - a team of archeologists headed by the famous Doctor Heeler has become exposed to a huge chunk of Psilerium and has now gotten a bad case of Psilerium poisoning, and have been moved into the care of the Psychonauts to help them recover.
Raz is rearing to go in to help, however, while the senior agents trust him as an agent, they aren't certain how badly effected the Doctor and his team are, and are thusly only sending people who have a lot of experience in dealing with psitoxins, including Sasha and Milla.
Raz does actually get an assignment, though it's definitely not the one he expects.
Turns out Doctor Heeler's wife, Chilli Heeler, has come over because of how worried she is about her husband, and she has brought over their children.
While the Motherlobe is doing better than it was, the Psychonauts are not exactly equipped to entertain a pair of little girls, so they decided to get the agent closest to their age (who also isn't helping with the detox process) to help keep them out of trouble and assist Mrs Heeler if need be.
In other words, Raz is on babysitting duty.
(Also, Sasha, Milla and his parents are probably wanting to give Raz a chance to just play with someone closer to his age that isn't one of his siblings - kid needs to socialise and have fun sometimes, Dogen is currently with his parents and while they also want Lili to socialise she is very stubborn and likely to set someone on fire)
So, that's how Raz was assigned to help take care of Bluey and Bingo.
Couple of other things:
I'm not sure if the Heeler's are humanized or not, but if they aren't, it's explained that Australia has a high (Sentient) Dog population, and Bluey and Bingo have lots of questions about Raz being human
Chilli is initially a bit worried for Raz cause he's a kid. She ends up being a good influence on him.
Bluey and Bingo are very interested in Raz's "magic"
This unsurprisingly leads to Raz infodumping about psychic powers and TPT
Also, playing secret agents (Raz is unintentionally a bit controlling at first, but Chilli talks to him and convinces him to apologise and loosen up - Agent Fairy and Agent Cheetah end up saving Agent Aquato from the evil Queen Brain(Chilli))
The girls try to get Raz to go for a swim, but, well, Raz is still dealing with his water problem. (Chilli reassures Raz)
They play Grannies (And Nonno)
Nonno Gregory is based partially on Nona, constantly knitting and being a bit sassy
The Junior Agents/probably just Norma try to tease Raz about him "babysitting" and leads to the Grannies owning them verbally.
Meanwhile, Bandit is hallucinating like heck. If this is humanized, he sees everyone (including himself) as humanized dogs, and he's probably at a rock concert of some sort.
He has probably tried to leave bed to chase something twelve times at this point.
Yall have seen my 2017 artstyle, now here's
2019 edition
Happy Tree Friends
Somber Wood Foes/Fiends
Personalities and motivations inverted
▪︎ Somber is the coolest antonym I found for Happy, Wood is a darker alternative for Tree, and Foes is the opposite of friends
EXTRACTED DESCRIPTION: Cub is finally a teenager but he still dies because of his father's negligence and clumsiness. He is really tired of the cycle and he desires to be in an opposite world where Pop would actually make constant efforts taking care of him. After an encounter with his opposite counterpart at the well, the two switches places to live the lives they think they wanted.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
▪︎ Lye (Wolf in Sheep's Clothing) and Byte (Cheetah with headphones) are like Cub's classmates. They knew how Buc and Cub switch places so they'll do their best to try to make it nothing's out of the ordinary-
Tumblr media
▪︎ This is the chapter's cover of Somber Wood Foes/Opposite AU that~~I never have the chance to write~~ I really adore :DDD
It features Cub, Frankly and Wifty
I called the white featureless creatures "Bases" because I haven't known the word "Generic Tree Friend" yet-
The Respectably Refined Readily Righteous Raccoon Rangers are the main helpers for Cub to adapt to the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
▪︎ The ones with Crystal in it are really cool, her role is to like guide Cub around. First image is of Cub getting introduced to Inversed! Cuddles, Giggles and Toothy. Second image is Cub telling Wifty about Crystal. He's unsure of her existence since he is the only one who have seen her so far.
Tumblr media
▪︎ I forgot how this chapter supposed to go but I rembe about Cub trying to survive the "executioners"
Featuring:
Flippy > Fiasco
(Fiasco is a bloodthirsty executioner whose goal is to have the most kills each day. He is quick, ruthless, and loves the creativity in his kills. He avoids places containing wholesome stuffs since he will flip into his little alter, Freaky.)
Russell the Pirate > Rascal the Bandit
(loves gold, hoards gold, will kill for anything that looks like gold)
Flaky > Ruby
(she doesn't have flakes, fearless, adrenaline junkie, uses her quills as weapons when needed, loves to compete on having the most kills for the day)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
▪︎ These are AMINO art requests of the Inversed critters yeeee
I forget if cheetah bandut is boy or girl
When I first played the game I thought that was a boy.
Tumblr media
I found this concept art with longer, more feminine hair.
Also in the official walkthrough they call her with girl pronouns, so probably a girl.
Kinda looks like a boy tho
Tumblr media
Let's say the Cheetah Bandit is genderfluid
I started watching Smokey and the Bandit 2 the other day, and why didn't any of you folks tell me this is a very silly movie?
It's like the first one, but with the silliness cranked up to irresponsible levels. Like Chester Cheetah pushing that cheeziness lever all the way to "dangerously cheesy." I think Dom Deluise doing an italian accent really puts it over the top.
Sally Field is still amazing and beautiful.
WILD KRATTS
SEASON 1 (PART 2)
One sentence review and will receive a score from 1 (worst) to 10 (best) Hope you enjoy :)
Tumblr media
Falcon City: The episode is great overall but what makes this episode as amazing are the pigeon scenes (I wish they used pigeon powers more often) 9/10.
Koala Balloon: The hairball scene was the most random thing to happen but it's also my favorite. 9/10
Cheetah Racer: Would 100% wear the shoes Martin wore in the beginning of the episode and you gotta love Zach's pettiness in this episode plus Chris' Gazelle powers. 8/10
Stuck on Sharks: Martin and Chris traveling on a Shark via Bathtub toy, epic and informative. 8/10
Mimic: Blur had a baby (insert audience awww) the absolute waste of jet fuel Donita uses to move to a tent that wasn't even 100ft away is absolutely hilarious and don't get me started on that absolutely amazing moment near the ending of the episode. 9/10
Little Howler: How did the Creature Pod recording get all ot those angles?!?!?!? 7/10
Raptor Round Up: I love the pacing in this episode and it had a lot of memorable moments, I also wonder if what the WK crew did to Gormond is illegal (probably need to add it to the illegal things the Wild Kratts did) 9/10
A Huge Organge Problem: Has the best CPS activation sequence in the show (and is never used again >:0) also has one of the best songs in the show 8/10
Masked Bandits: I would love to see Martin in a Sperm Whale CPS for Halloween, and you got to love a good mystery. 8/10
Kerhonk: Proboscus Monkey CPS?... more like Dad Bod CPS, am I right? (probably not) 7/10
The Food Chain Game: The Bat Eared Fox dance will forever live in my head rent free. 6/10
Flight of the Pollinators: The angst in this episode was a very entertaining and kept me on my toes also the facial expressions were on point. 10/10
Caracal-Minton: WHY WOULD YOU USE A 100 YEAR- OLD FAMILY HEIRLOOM TO PLAY BADMITION?!?!? The Kratt Bros almost died. ( live action segment was pretty cool though) 8/10
Zig Zagged: WHAT IN THE CREATURE WORLD WAS THAT FIRST WK CREW JACKET DESIGN, IF DONITA SAW THAT SHE WOULD HAVE DIED! ( which could be for the better?) Also poor Jimmy Z. 8/10
A Bat in the Brownies: Martin almost eatting a bat did not age well, but I loved the message. 7/10
Birds of a Feather: I can relate to Aviva in this episode and the dance moves were top notch. 9/10
Seasquatch: Jimmy reminiscing the life he shared with his Controller was hilarious and the Yeti Crab is very cool. 8/10
Gecko Effect: Great episode overall and... OH MY GOSH WHAT HAPPENED TO MARTIN'S EYES?!?! 10/10
Googly Eye Night Guru: Taking a prototype invention without permission is not very cash money, also Koki mistakes Chris for a plant and Martin for a Proboscus Monkey. 7/10
Quilber's Birthday Present: No My BaLloOn... CoMe BaCk BaLloOn will also live rent free in my head and Chris sucks at keeping surprise parties secret, who knew? 9/10
The Ledge #540: Archive Releases
It's no secret that I'm a sucker for box sets and other repackages of previously released material. I may be new release oriented, but I love a good set of odds and ends. Give me those unheard demos. Let me hear those old concerts.
Tonight's show compiles those types of records. There's unreleased material by a forgotten band that were contemporaries of the New York Dolls. There's a new mixes of classic Dead Kennedys songs. There's numerous outtakes by the likes of Wilco and Joe Strummer. And there's also the recently discovered early recordings of future Velvet Underground tunes by Lou Reed. Plus, a ton of live releases from Todd Snider, Pixies, Soul Asylum, and others.
I would love it if every listener bought at least one record I played on either of these shows. These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. And if you buy these records directly from the artist or label, please let them know you heard these tunes on The Ledge! Let them know who is giving them promotion! You can find this show at almost any podcast site, including iTunes and Stitcher...or
