I’m thinking about making a discord for the jksf series where people can talk abt it and stuff and u can ask questions or talk abt the characters or whatever. It would basically just be a way to interact more with the series and characters. I love writing this series and I also enjoy interacting with people abt the series so I thought, well why not? Virgil’s Daemon

Name: Adva

Meaning: wave; ripple

Animal: Veiled Chameleon

Defining Traits: Chameleons are known for being secretive, territorial, and hard to care for. Due to their changing colors, they are often considered very emotive and emotional.

Brief History: Settled very young, at the age of seven. Adva chose to Settle without Virgil’s input, causing short-term strain on their Bond.

Name: Samson

Meaning: sun; bright sun

Animal: Kea

Defining Traits: Kea’s are largely regarded as pests. They are smart and curious creatures who tend to have an interest in humans, and in their efforts to observe them, end up being quite destructive.

Brief History: Settled at age 13. Samson found his Settled form when Logan was 12, and the two stayed like that without changing for a year before they decided to officially Settle.

Name: Titania

Meaning: of the Titans

Animal: Indian Giant Squirrel

Defining Traits: The Indian Giant Squirrel is considered awe-striking and attractive, but the creatures tend to be evasive and hard to find. Squirrels in general are largely considered skittish and sorta cute, as long as they aren’t being a nuisance.

Brief History: Settled at age 15. Titania found her Settled form at age 13, but neither were certain that the form fit and continued to search for other forms until Titania finally Settled independently.

Name: Glinda

Meaning: fair; good

Animal: North American Beaver

Defining Traits: Due to being semi-aquatic Beaver’s are known for their adaptability. Some people find them off putting and ugly while others consider them cute. People tend to agree that Beaver’s are hardworking and familial creatures. They are surprisingly gentle.

Brief History: Settled at age 14. Patton and Glinda tried out different forms, and the moment Glinda found her Settled form, it felt right. They immediately Settled.

ADHD Roman

I can’t,,, believe,, I TOTALLY FORGOT

So building off this ask early about ADHD Roman in just keep stumbling forward (baby im waiting for you) because I totally forgot like,,, a significant piece

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)

Look, Roman has h a r d c o r e RSD. 

It made theater really hard and stressful at times but he’s also Very Good at theater and has support from family and friends so he gets through it. 

He also takes criticism very poorly a lot of the time, which is why you got to suggest whatever improvements carefully. Patton is very good at this. Logan is not. 

Logan and Roman work things out eventually after Logan explains that often times his comments aren’t supposed to be negative or positive, they’re just comments.

This somehow helps more than if Logan insisting he wasn’t trying to be rude/mean/etc. Logan is facts and Roman is emotions and Roman can work with that.

The big problem is Virgil.

Virgil and Roman Do Not get along at first. In Calendrical Consequences I mentioned that they always hit each other in their most vulnerable places. 

(At the time, I hadn’t consciously been writing ADHD Roman, but I can definitely see how this could be evidence of Roman being ADHD)

Virgil is really good at triggering Roman's RSD, and the worst part is that he doesn't mean to at all.

Roman just feels like he’s constantly failing with Virgil. He doesn’t understand Virgil and his PTSD at first and ends up triggering Virgil a lot.

When he inevitably does trigger Virgil, he feels immensely guilty about it, but it’s too late and oh great guess he’s fucked up again. 

It also doesn’t help that Virgil tends to lash out in defense in a lot of these situations, making Roman feel even worse

Eventually they Talk Shit Out and they both get better at communicating, but until then, things are rough between them.

in jksf has logan ever tried a weighted blanket/does he have one? also what are his favorite stim toys/things that help him?

Weighted Blanket

Yes, Logan does have a weighted blanket it and it has a Story

okay so as a child Logan got a weighted blanket bc it was recommended as something that helped autistic kids

and it helps him a lot. The weight is grounding and nice, and it helps him calm down from overstimulation

The Problem: Logan’s parents would take it away whenever he “misbehaved” (ie. meltdowns, shutdowns, overstimulation, etc)

This is v bad, considering these are the times he needed it Most

As he got older, the weight wasn’t proportionate to his own, making it not as effective

His parents refused to get him a new one, insisting that he was “too old for that”

Logan may or may not have had a meltdown over that

As a freshman in college, a new weighted blanket is one of the first selfish purchases Logan makes 

(Remember y’all: selfish does NOT = bad!! it just means doing things for yourself which can oftentimes be extremely important!!)

He still his old weighted blanket to this day, because it is Important to him and he’s not ready to part with it. He pulls it out every once and awhile just to feel it.

His new one- being the correct weight- obviously works a lot better. Logan throws it over himself whenever he needs that nice Heavy feeling. 

His partners also know to grab it if he’s overwhelmed and do so often

Other Stim Stuff

Logan didn’t grow up with a lot of stim toys past the age of 5-7 years old bc he was “too old for that stuff” so he had to improvise

He got a watch before he even knew how to read it just so that he had something to play with

Not Actually Stim Items that he would stim with included his watch, jacket strings (chewing), tapping pencils against other pencils, the nice noise when a mechanical pencil lead is soft on that one side in just the right way, pressing calculator buttons, chewing ice, flipping through books

He isn’t really introduced to the concept of things specifically made for stimming until the second chapter of Exothermic. After he is introduced boy has Good Time.

Stim Toys: marble trap, fidget cubes, keychains with beads, boondoggles, actual chews, those stone things, spinner rings, tangles

He still stims with a bunch of things that aren’t stim toys, but now he also has these

He was very hesitant to get the chews bc internalized ableism telling him that chews are “childish” and shit

He also has what I’m calling “natural stims” which I just mean, stims that aren’t with Other Things

Natural stims: Hands, Bouncing legs, Pulling hair, Chewing on inside of mouth, Watching videos of cool animals (especially ones with colors), Watching illusion like things, Humming, Groaning “Muh” sound from the back of throat, Rocking, Head shaking, Petting Trixies fur

Stims A Lot with his hands and they mean different things

a) Flappy Hands- excitement, fascination, curiosity, pleased, etc

b) Clenched Hands- frustrated, mad, upset, confused, often times mad at himself

c) Wringing Hands- nervous, overwhelmed, confused, out of place, etc

Things That Help Him

I’m interpreting this as things that help him calm down when Overstimulated/Experiencing Sensory Overloads/Meltdowns/Shutdowns/etc

His Headphones

Weighted Blanket

Space but knowledge that Someone Is There

Time

Stim (toy or natural stim)

Reminders afterwards that him experiencing these things is Okay and he is Not Less of a person for these things

I keep thinking that Roman has ADHD in just keep stumbling forward, and I dont know why.... i think its just me projecting, which happens a lot...

Roman was not consciously written as ADHD on my part, but who am I to get in the way of projecting?

I may not have intended to write him that way, but you seem to connect to him through that, and that’s valid af. So why not? He can be ADHD

Take some headcanons (and feel free to add to them if you- or anyone else- wants)

ADHD isn’t a diagnosis that anyone ever thinks about because he’s always been a bit hyper and will lose focus easily, but that’s just Roman, right?

Roman has always struggled with chronic procrastination but brushed it off as being busy or lazy or uninterested even though he’s none of those things.

Roman who would play with Logan and Virgil’s stim and fidget toys and just thought they were fun but doesn’t realize how much easier it is to focus when there’s something in his hand

Roman who hated English class because it was just pages and pages of text until one teacher recommend he read it more as if he was watching a play or to think about it like a script and he slowly started to fall in love with the subject

Hyperfixtating galore on anything theater related, and applying theater to different subjects is probably the main reason he passed any of his classes tbh

Never being recommended for a diagnosis bc as a kid in CA all his teachers loved him and sure he was a bit inattentive but he was so sweet and never “disruptive” like all those other kids.

Never being recommended for a diagnosis bc as a teen in UT all his teacher’ were against this loud, flamboyantly gay, Muslim kid since the very beginning and he, nor his parents, are about to trust anything they say

(Even still, they never recommend a diagnosis. Just claimed he was “distracting” which was really code for- “we don’t like that we have to give your child mandatory time to pray so we’re going to bitch about it in the meantime”)

Roman who quite possibly never gets a diagnosis, might not ever realize he’s ADHD, but finds and develops skills to better manage and succeed in his own life 

(Said skills are skills that many neurodivergent people learn, whether naturally over time, or with a support system, or with a shit ton of trouble)

He, of course, does this with the help and support of his lovely husbands who all have their own trials in life and are extremely supportive to his own struggles

I haven’t been on tumblr a lot recently so idk if u’ve already gotten this question or not. But what was Patton, Logan, Virgil, and Roman’s wedding like?

The wedding itself is pretty lowkey but very nice

Close friends and families only so it’s a relatively small wedding

a nice venue that’s very aesthetically pleasing and there is LOTS of flowers

Trixie is the flower girl and Kit is the ring bearer. They are adorable and the most important part of all of this /j

Logan’s vows make his spouses cry

Roman’s vows are Very Long but Very Good

One traditional thing in Muslim weddings is the Meher- a required gift from the groom to bride. Because Logan proposed he gives Roman his own plus their spouses birthstone charms to add to Roman’s family necklace. It’s not a very traditional gift but Roman cried once Logan told him what is for so,,,,

Also with tradition they have the wedding ceremony under a chuppah (wedding canopy) which is part of Jewish tradition and symbolizes starting a new life together

They do not do the ‘don’t see each other the day of the wedding’ thing and instead stay together

They do eventually have to be separated though bc they kept distracting each other while they were getting ready

Distractions included mostly professions of love and then they’d all start crying (which ruins the make up!!!!)

Shortly before the wedding is also the first time a lot of their families meet

Esther, Remy, and Blythe instantly band together and become Chaos Relatives. Blythe pretends to be the mature one. She is not.

This is before Exothermic so Logan’s parents are there but they’re not on the best terms and that’s decently stressful for Logan even though he insists that he wants them there.

The combined forces of Roman’s dads and Virgil’s dad means that No One can escape the dad jokes. and god help them all when Patton joins in

Does anyone in jksf celebrate Thanksgiving?

I know it isn’t Thanksgiving anymore, but my fam takes the holiday Very Seriously so I didn’t get the chance to answer until now.

Neither of Roman’s dads grew up in the US, and after immigrating to the states they kinda were like, “y’all celebrate a holiday that has a basis in the colonization and systematic extinction of the indigenous people of this land? lol no thanks.” So Roman’s family has never celebrated the holiday.

Virgil and his dad will spend the day together and have a nice dinner, but it’s nothing big. The small amount of extended family Virgil has is based in Canada and Israel, so they don’t do any family get together, family just lives to far away, plus they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving.

Patton’s family is very against the basis of Thanksgiving, but it is also time that most people have time off, so his whole extended family tries to get together and have a nice dinner. It’s usually the only time he gets to see his extended family. They also try to volunteer around the holiday season.

Logan’s family celebrates Thanksgiving and is probably the most traditional out of this group. They do the whole extended family and big dinner thing and Logan Hates It bc holidays like this are Sensory Hell. Remy and him gen try to find some excuse to leave the house for as long as possible.

In their adult life, the gang sometimes stops by Pat’s family, but otherwise kinda just does a quiet dinner where they just celebrate the time they get together. Logan did still attend his family’s Thanksgiving meals until after Remy runs away bc he’s not abt to leave him by himself.

I also wanna say they do a “friendsgiving” a week beforehand that includes Remy, Dee, eventually Remus, and a few other people they know (cartoon therapy characters and ocs mostly).

No, they were not all immediately accepting.Patton’s Moms

Patton was out to them as poly before dating Logan, Virgil, and Roman

When he came out, his moms were immediately accepting

They knew what polyamorous was and understood it

They did want to make sure that Patton knew what it was and truly identified that way instead of using it as an excuse to cheat on his partners

When he had clarified, that he was poly, actually poly, and did know what that meant, they were extremely supportive and accepting

It also helped that they had gone through a similar process with his older sister when she first brought home her two boyfriends 

(the relationship didn’t last but it was exposure to the concept)

Roman’s Dads

Roman introduced the idea of him being poly to his dads by pretty much saying “Hey Dads, I have three boyfriends here are their names and a little bit about each one”

That was it that was the conversation

Once the shock of “hey our son just called, told us a bit about how his life was going, said he appreciated the cookies last week, and oh just told us he was dating three people all at once” wore off, they immediately called back

His Dad’s jumped to the conclusion that he was cheating and were Very Upset because

1) “we raised you a better person than that” and

2) cheating on partners is haram (forbidden by Islamic law)

Roman explained that no, he wasn’t cheating and that they were all dating each other and it was completely consensual

Dads were confused for a while and stumbled over how to refer to his boyfriends for a long time

“Er, your,, close friends??” “Boyfriends, Dads.”

Part of this continued confusion was due to the fact that Roman didn’t ever really explain it to them

It was actually Patton who explained to Roman’s dads over the phone what polyamory was and what it meant

That was when everything clicked

They were like “oh, so Roman has three boyfriends and all of you are dating each other in one singular, healthy, consensual relationship, that’s a bit new to us, but makes sense”

Patton was like “yes, that exactly” while Roman was like “that is literally what I’ve been saying the entire time”

Patton’s like “Ro, honey, you didn’t explain shit”

(he really didn’t explain it at all)

Roman’s parents immediately fall in love with the 1st of 3 boyfriends

They later made sure to send Roman cute parent texts expressing their support and desire to meet his boyfriends if their relationship ever became that serious

Virgil’s Dad

Virgil’s Dad is like the ultra ally parent

The truth is- there’s not much things that can phase a man who had his son kidnapped by an evil cult only to find and have that child returned to him years later

(and turns out he has a shit ton of trauma and then that kid’s mom left and the kid attempted suicide and started getting into fights)

and well, let’s just say he’s learned to just sort of roll with life

The best part of all this- it was actually Virgil’s father who first introduced Virgil to the term polyamorous years ago

When Virgil came out as queer he pretty much said he wasn’t straight but didn’t know what he was

His father did a ton of research to try and help and found a long list of terms, including polyamorous

Virgil ended up identifying as queer/not straight instead of anything more specific, but this was both of there introduction to the identity

In result, when Virgil explained that he was dating Logan, Patton, and Roman, he was very supportive

“Damn it, I got it wrong.” “What the fuck? Dad what are talking about.” “I thought you were going to date Roman. Not Patton, Logan, and Roman. Guess I’ll just have to deal with getting one of three.” “Your so weird Dad.” “Love you too kiddo.”

Logan’s Parents

Logan’s parents weren’t very accepting when he first came out as gay

It was actually a mixture of homophobia and ableism

In their minds, Logan didn’t have the ability to be gay because he was autistic

They later change their minds after Logan compiled a shit ton of research and created numerous well-crafted arguments

At the same time, to them “changing their minds” is more “Well I guess my son says he’s gay so,, guess I’ll accept that even though I don’t think he can be.”

Being polyamorous (and bi) went a similar way

Logan actually dated someone else before Roman and Virgil but at the same time as Patton

He tried mentioning this to his family, but because he was dating a girl as well as a boy, Patton got brushed off as a “good friend”

After Logan and the girl broke up, Patton got bumped up to “boyfriend” in their minds

When Logan started dating Patton, Virgil, and Roman he decided not to tell his parents at first because of this

When he did tell them, it went pretty similar as last time, with Patton being seen as his boyfriend and Virgil and Roman being “close friends”

When they get engaged his parents just sorta,, ignore the fact that it’s four of them in a relationship

After Exothermic, things start to change a bit more

His parents start to refer to all of his spouses as his “partners” but specifically avoid using any terms like “spouses” bc it makes them uncomfortable and they only half try to understand

Neither Logan nor his spouses mind the term “partner” but the reason Logan’s parents use it does bug them

It’s pretty much just permanently uneasy in that way

Virgil, Patton, and Roman due there best to support Logan as he navigates this area with his parents, and only step in if it’s unhealthy for Logan or anyone else in the relationship

Hey, so I've recently started reading your jksf series and I'm totally in love with it :) I'm just finished reading the first chapter of Cannonball and realized how much I've missed Remy - she was probably my favorite character in the series - and was just wondering how she's doing? Like, what happened to her after Kübler-Ross? How are her friends, how's Cha-Cha, her relationship with her dad? Did she start transitioning? And ye, I can tell you about how Remy’s doing.

tw: unhealthy relationships, animal death, misgendering

(its mostly happy tho, i promise)

So it takes time and Remy goes to therapy for a little bit, but Remy starts doing a lot better

Remy, Kai, and Elliot start a dnd campaign with Lauren (Kai’s gf). Kai DMs

She gets closer to Kai and Elliot and those are good strong relationships in her life

She comes out to Roman and Virgil and gets to know Roman and Patton better

She stops by their house all the time whenever she wants

Elliot and her hit a rough patch for a bit

Elliot really hits a rough patch with both Kai and Remy as they struggle through and unhealthy relationship with Mitchell

Eventually Elliot gets out of that relationship and resolves things with Kai and Remy

A long while later after that (a year-ish im gunna say?) Elliot and Remy start dating

Kai drops out his sophomore year of college for numerous reasons, but mostly being disabled and not really having a good reason to continue

Remy, Elliot, and Kai still stay close

Cha-Cha’s doing well and likes coming to Remy’s classes

Elliot and Kai dote on her and refuse to listen to Remy’s complaints that Cha-Cha is actually a brat and being totally spoiled by them

Losing Cha-Cha (which is faaaar in the future) is incredibly rough for Remy

Remy waits about 3 years before getting another guide dog (Her name is Sugar. They don’t get along at first).

She still not really sure if what she wants to do with transitioning, so she starts wearing bras and tucking. She doesn’t plan to hormonal transition at this time, nor does she plan to surgically transition

She usually doesn’t pass and gets misgendered a lot and that really sucks tbh

She does keep very limited contact with her dad w/ p much just finances and stuff

Eventually I’m planning on her Elliot adopting and she decides she’s willing to give her dad a chance to be in her kids life

(but ive really only barely thought abt that last bit so we’ll see where that goes)

I think those are the main things for now? There’s obviously stuff after this and between this as well, because life continues to move forward, so lmk if you have more questions. I love them.

Does halloween have an effect on virgil due to all the decorations that have to deal with blood and bones and such, also that people tend to try to scare people a lot during this time of year?

Halloween and Virgil have an,, interesting relationship that’s for sure.

Virgil doesn’t really mind Halloween decorations

Th truth is he’s seen real bones and real dead bodies and real blood that the fake stuff just seems so,, fake to him

But, if he is already having a bad day, these decorations can be very triggering

On those days he tends to stay indoors all day or just transfer between work/home

His boyfriends tend to walk Trixie if those days drag into numerous ones

Trixie hates it because she doesn’t like to be separated from Virgil when he’s having a hard time

Virgil has them take her anyway (when he’s feeling well enough to be w/o her) bc she needs the exercise

Virgil’s partners will only ever take her w/ Virgil’s express permission

Do not separate service dogs and their handlers w/o permission!!

As for the scaring others factor of Halloween, Virgil Hates It

Virgil already can’t handle raised voices and threatening postures directed towards him, so people actively jumping out with the intention to scare him Freaks Him Out

He will panic and have a flashback

Trixie will go into a block and then work on bringing him back by DPT

Luckily, these scaring events tend to only actually happen on the date of Halloween or closely leading up to it, and everyone who knows Virgil knows that jump scares aren’t okay with him

This is one of the main reasons Virgil stays inside on Halloween

He does go to work- but if his school was anything like mine there’s zero tolerance for Halloween shenanigans besides basic costumes that have to follow a strict dress code so it’s not a triggering experience (for the most part- things happen of course)

Which actually leads us into one of Virgil’s worst triggers surrounding Halloween: the costumes

A basic type of scary Halloween costumes general follows an outline of creepy cloak, weapon, and scary mask (ie, The Scream, Grim Reaper, Phantoms, etc.)

Virgil cannot handle these costumes as they look very very similar to what people in the cults wore during Creepy Cult Rituals

He goes out of his way to avoid any interaction of seeing these costumes which is actually fairly easy for him because he’ll stay inside on the night of Halloween, plus his school has strict dress code rules, meaning they can’t have masks or weapons

Now, the actual night before and of Halloween, there is a Routine

All of them carve pumpkins the night before because it is a cute, fun tradition and you can fight me on this

Logan hates the texture of p much everything involved in this so he just chooses a design and someone will do it for him

During this time he’ll take the pumpkin seeds and wash them off (very carefully so he doesn’t have to touch them) and then bake them w/ seasoning bc they are a tasty snack

Halloween night they all curl up and watch movies with the lights on because no fucking way they’re turning the lights off on Halloween

Plus leaving the lights on let’s trick or treaters know they’re there

When trick or treaters arrive, any two people excluding Virgil will go answer the door bc again, triggering costumes

Whenever any of the three who answer the door think that there’s even a remote chance that Virgil would think that the costume was cool/cute and no one else in the group is wearing a potentially triggering costume, they will call/drag him over to see it

He groans every time but really finds it adorable and then compliments the kid profusely on their costume

The last thing they really have to worry about is sound, bc people go batshit crazy on Halloween and just start,, yelling and screaming sometimes

The main way they deal with this is watching movies

They also have a sign on their door that asks for the trick or treaters to not yell or scream when they open the door

Of course, the movie’s noise doesn’t block everything and not all the trick or treaters listen

The screaming and yelling will generally cause Virgil to panic, but won’t be enough for him to actually slip into a panic attack or flashback

His partners will remind him of where he his and what’s going on and that it’s probably just people being stupid and that he’s safe

Trixie will task and perform DPT to help him relax and calm down

Virgil will also wear his headphones to block out triggering noises

The night itself is generally very tense for Virgil bc of all these factors, but he does genuinely enjoy parts of it (like carving pumpkins, cute kids costumes, snuggling w/ his partners and watching movies)

Some years are worse than others

Some years Virgil can’t even come out of the bedroom and be stuck in flashbacks for hours

Sometimes he can leave the bedroom but can’t leave the couch and they have to out a sign on the door that they aren’t doing candy/toys for tricker treaters that year bc Virgil can’t handle it

And some years are worse than others. But some are better as well.

And it’s okay

They make it work

ok but the fact that remus and roman arent afraid to wear skirts and stuff... imagine they both come into work wearing the same cool outfit so they look even MORE similar and they're not even surprised at this point, just like "well one of us has to change" lol

If it’s earlier into knowing one another it’s probably Very Awkward because it’s another similarity in top of everything else. And they keep finding similarities everywhere. Because is there anything that actually makes them different people? (And yes there is. There’s a lot of differences- just as many as similarities- but they and everyone else are all paying attention to the similarities and it’s starting to make them uncomfortable). They probably both change without being prompted.

If it’s later into knowing one another they probably don’t care about changing or Roman (being the drama royalty that he is) demands Remus change. Deceit laughs in the background.

Fic abt Virgil’s immediate recovery after being rescued (this ones on hold for a bit bc of numerous trees reasons including struggling w/ pacing and figuring out how much to include vs leave out)

A one shot abt Virgil dealing w/ dissociation (That should be up today or tmrw)

Don’t have any specific plans for this but I’d love to do more w/ remus and deceit. And the characters families, especially their families interacting with one another

In JKSF how do they handle it if they get hate in public for being polyamorous?

First, apologies for letting this sit for awhile. I’m currently in progress of apply/getting into college so it’s been a busy year, but especially so this last week as break approached.____

TW: polyam hate speech, discussion of verbal fights and dealing with hate speech

By “hate” in this ask, I’m choosing to interpret it as verbal polyamphobia. Specifically semi-aggressive verbal hate and/or harmful ignorance towards polyamorous people. If you wanted something else/meant something else, feel free to clarify.

It’s very situational for how they deal with things. There’s a lot of factors including (but not limited to), the location, the type of hate, their safety, their comfort levels, and who their with.

Patton tends to avoid confrontation. There’s a moment in Celestial Equator where someone is homophobic towards Patton and Logan and Patton pulls away from Logan and asks him to leave it. Patton doesn’t like angry and upset people and would rather avoid confrontation. In addition, he’s very aware that he and any of his partners are at risk for more extreme hate that can include physical assault, especially considering Patton’s trans, Roman’s genderqueer and all four of them are poc (even tho Logan and Virgil tend to be fairly white passing). Due to all of this, Patton tends to be cautious.

Roman can really go either way. One one had, he’s very proud of who he is and feels that it’s important to defend himself. On the other hand, he grew up in Utah and knows that you can’t win every battle and you have to know which ones to pick and which ones to drop. As long as it’s safe to stand up to someone, with Roman it comes down to his partners comfort levels. He’ll defend their relationship if it’s what his partners need him to do, and let it go if that’s what they need instead. He tends to prioritize his partners comfort over everything else (besides safety).

Virgil can also go either way, but has clear rules of when to confront and when to let go. In a similar way to Patton, Virgil doesn’t like confrontation. The difference is that Virgil fears confrontation and angry people versus Patton just gets uncomfortable and fairly anxious with the situation. If Virgil feels like he can be safe emotionally and physically in the situation, he will stand against the hate. This tends to mean he’ll stand up to strangers that appear physically weaker than him and/or his partners. (It’s a safety thing, if it comes down to a fight, he needs to know he can win). He will not stand up against crowds or people who hold authority positions over him. 

Logan almost always chooses to fight the hate unless safety is on the line. He believes that there’s zero excuse for the behavior and that it is best to stand up for it. He will also try to educate if he feels like the person would be willing to listen. He tends to fight hate with reason and will not remove himself from the scenario until he feels he has completed that task. The only exception to this is his partner’s comfort and safety. If he recognizes that his partner’s don’t want to fight whatever hate, he is willing to drop it, though he finds it very frustrating. It’s something he’s fought about with Patton before. 

All in all, if the four of them are out all together and face verbal harassment, Logan will politely and firmly ask the person to leave them alone. If the harassment continues, Roman will step in. If the harassment comes from a group or authority figure, they will immediately disengage. If anyone seems to be past normal levels of uncomfortable or any of the four ask to leave or if safety is a concern, they will disengage. Disengage generally means they will leave the location/business/whatever.

Will we be getting a fic connected to JKSF(BIWFY) and Remus explaining his schizophrenia or the others seeing him have hallucinations and asking abt it? It would be really interesting :0

At this current time I didn’t have anything planned for this but it’s an interesting idea. I dunno if I’ll write or not but here’s some of the thoughts I’ve already had abt the topic. 

It’s going to take a long time for Remus to be comfortable broaching that considering schizophrenia is so heavily stigmatized and his relationship with roman, while positive, is definitely weird and unsteady.

All the others have seen Remus hallucinations. Remus is pretty regularly hallucinating and the others probably don’t notice. Remus has been hallucinating for years and he’s very good a making sure no one notices. He’s very comfortable around the subject with his family, but not with strangers.

The thing the others might notice is his paranoia and delusions, though Remus is also good at hiding those. The only reason they’d potentially recognize them is probably because both Deceit and Virgil deal with hypervigilance (a common symptom of PTSD).

Note that paranoia and hypervigilance are different but can often appear to outsiders as very similar or the same. 

(Paranoia is usually trademarked by delusions while hypervigilance is generally a constant on edge/alert state. Paranoia also focuses more on the present while hypervigilance focuses on what is to come)

If they did recognize that Remus was struggling with something that might seem similar to hypervigilance, they probably wouldn’t directly ask why because that’s a pretty invasive question and can really put people in an uncomfortable spot.

They would offer gentle support if it’s wanted, but not push for that support to be accepted nor would they expect any explanations, etc. 

Even with the offer of support I think it’s fairly unlikely for Remus to accept it head on. He’s been handling schizophrenia for years, and if he needs support he has already established systems and people he can go to.

TL;DR: Yes, Remus definitely does explain that he has schizophrenia at some point. No, it isn’t soon. Yes, the others have definitely been around him while he’s hallucinating or experiencing any of the negative, positive, and/or cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia. No, they do not ask him about his symptoms and behavior. Yes, they offer support if it’s wanted. Yes, that support is appreciated. No, the support isn’t really needed or wanted. Potentially Remus will act on that support at a later time.
