The crying grows louder and louder as you search for its source but stops the moment you enter the room. Silence, then a rising sound of hissing static. You ask her if she’s okay. You can’t hear your own voice. She lifts her head and her hair falls away from her face -- or from where her face would have been. The room blurs, but she remains sharp. Deafening static.
