My kinda funny hypothetical for a “Young Eda” series (repost from my Reddit).

We all love “The Owl House,” and there’s no doubt that we would appreciate more content from the world Dana Terrace and crew have created. A “Young Eda” series would be a perfect spin-off; I mean, who wouldn’t want it?

But this is just a hypothetical I’ve been thinking about and had to share it. Instead of being a spin-off about Eda, Lilith, Raine, and others during their time at Hexside, what if… the show pulls a “Dragonball GT?”

Let’s say, a few years—or even a decade—after Belos is defeated and The Collector is stopped, Eda is hit with another curse. One that reverts her to a fourteen-year-old. But she still retains her gray hair, the Owl Beast Curse/Harpy Form, and, unfortunately, her missing arm. Now, Eda, joined by an older Luz, King, Amity, Hunter, Lilith, Raine, and other characters, must venture beyond the Boiling Isles to find a way to get back to normal. Along the way, they discover other Titan islands with unique inhabitants and forms of magic. Some will become friends, and others will be enemies. In terms of the adventure and scale, I imagine this hypothetical show would have a “One Piece” feel.

I haven’t thought about the premise beyond this, but I wanted to share it. Would this be a good idea or a bad one? Let me know in the ed, and feel free to add any improvements.

I would argue that the bi flag on Hunter's jacket in Thanks to Them does confirm his bisexuality. Because what other reason would the Owl House crew have for putting it there?

See on the one hand I agree and want to treat it as confirmation, both bc I'm biased and bc the crew has done this before w/ the lil decorations on Eda's belongings in season 1, and even something like Masha's nail polish in the same episode as hunters lil bi rainbow. And bc you're right! All things considered, there's very little chance that Dana as executive producer didn't catch it and then approve it.

But in my mind I know that that might be all it was. Just a hc Dana agrees with, which doesn't feel fair to hold up as canon, no matter how much I love it, since ppl don't always have to take the author's personal opinions into account when forming an interpretation of the work.

I think the most likely scenario for how the bi rainbow got there is that the colour designer (who. I wanna say was Dresden Douglas? If I'm remembering her Twitter thread of props in TTT she coloured correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong) added that bi rainbow of their own volition, rather than it being a top down order, which is a bit different to me in terms of like. Canonicity.

Again, I agree with you anon, with my limited knowledge of how toh's production works, I think it's very likely that the bi rainbow was left on hunters sweater bc the creator writes/views him as bi. I view it as confirmation. But I'm just shy of stating that as a fact simply bc it's so miniscule and inconcrete compared to things like Dana saying Amity's a lesbian in a Reddit AMA, or Lilith's letter from the livestream and then her VA saying on insta the next day that Lilith is ace.

Which isn't to say that I need Dana Terrace to put in writing "Hunter is bi" for me to incorporate it into my interpretation of the show. It's already a part of how I view the owl house as a piece of fiction. Hunter is bi to me and I think it adds to his character and the shows overall message goals (not that it has to, rep doesn't need to justify itself, but it is something I feel (not that rep needs to justify itself, that hunter being bi adds to him)). But if I was going to say "hunter is canonically bi" to an outside observer, I'd want more than what we have. I'm an academic and I like citing my sources! And until Dana answers my letters, I have no source </3

Shitty people were in CRWBY too. Barbara has been exposed by employees under her for bullying them. Gavin came up with the F slur nickname for Kdin (and she didn't accept his apology), Michael did too and laughed at a joke of Ryan touching his child. Stop trying to separate CRWBY from RT when Josh Grelle themselves has said they're one and the same.

No they’re pretty different. Do you blame say Dana terrace or Alex hirsch for the faults of Disney because they ran shows for them? No. Employee and employer are different.

Alright, Disney, let’s talk.

One wlw couple and a single post on Instagram saying you support the LGBTQ+ community does not make you “progressive”.

What am I talking about? Specifically, I am discussing the controversy surrounding one of Disney’s most popular recent shows, The Owl House. This is a phenomenal show about a young POC girl, Luz Noceda, whose dream is to become a witch like her favorite fictional book character.

Throughout this series, she meets, becomes friends with, and eventually falls for a girl at her witch school, Amity Blight. The two have incredible chemistry and adorable moments throughout the series and is one of, if not the first Disney show with a canon queer couple as the main characters.

I have no problems with the relationship itself. I think it was done very well, I think they developed as well as they could for a kids show, and I think this is a big step in the future of Disney...however, Disney’s reaction to having an openly queer couple is what this post is about.

The Owl House is currently on its second season and is doing incredibly well, but Disney is planning on cutting it short when the third season comes out, saying season three will only have 3 44-minute episodes. Many people, the creator, Dana Terrace included, firmly believe that it is solely because of the firm queer representation.

“But while the show is massively popular, this second season will be the last full one. The upcoming third and final season will instead be three 44-minute episodes. Terrace explained in a Reddit post that The Owl House was cancelled because it “did not fit” Disney's brand” -Polygon

Terrace herself even wrote:

“The story is serialized (BARELY compared to any average anime lmao), our audience skews older, and that just didn’t fit this one guy’s tastes. That’s it! Ain’t that wild? Really grinds my guts, boils my brain, kicks my shins, all the things. It sucks but it is what it is.”

Will Disney ever admit that it’s because of the homosexuality that the show is getting canceled? No. Of course not. Because they made a singular post claiming to be against Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill from March 2022, so now they can’t be homophobic. *Insert intense eye roll here*

And don’t even get me started on Lafou from Beauty and the Beast who was labeled as gay 26 years after the animated film was first released. Does anyone really believe this? Well, they kinda did when it was just a fan theory, but as soon as it was “confirmed” by Disney, we don’t really believe them. Why? Because they made him a stereotype, that’s why. They overdid it. Was it amazing that they included a gay character into a well-known film? Yes 100% it’s amazing. But really, they only did it to get brownie points with the LGBTQ+ community, which they did get...until the original hype was over and we started to realize that they were just pandering.

...I said don’t get me started and I ranted anyway. Oh well.

So, yes, Disney is...trying, but they need to try a lot harder if they really want us to believe that they’re actually putting in an effort.

Can someone in The Owl House fandom give me a hand with this?

So recently, I came across a reddit post where someone had tried making their own recipe for Apple Blood.

While looking through the comments, I came across this:

I've checked the reddit AMA multiple times. And while Dana mentioned Apple Blood in there, I haven't been able to find any part that mentions an actual recipe. Whenever I try searching Google, all I come across is another fan recipe from last year.

I've made this one before. But if there really is an official recipe by Dana, I'd like to try it. Does anyone have any idea on where Dana might've mentioned the recipe (if she actually did, that is)?

Dana Terrace AMA (Part 2)

Lilith dyed her hair to appear more intimidating! I won’t deny her curly hair definitely is very friend-shaped, so I can see why! This does give me hope that now that Lilith is no longer in the EC, we’ll get to see her hair become frizzy again… Given how Dana went out of her way to make a contrast between the wilder appearance of younger Lilith, VS present-day, and I think it’s something she’ll return to now that Lilith is a Wild Witch like her sister!

As suspected, Lilith and Amity are rather cold and distant… Which makes sense, they parallel Luz and Eda, but they also contrast the pair! Especially when you look at their personalities, I can’t say I’m shocked… ESPECIALLY after Amity telling Lilith to ‘shut up’, and Dana confirming that Amity lost a LOT of respect for her teacher after Covention! Which makes me more scared that Lilith didn’t do anything to vouch for Amity to the Blight Parents, so YIKES… You’ve got a lot of explaining to do Lily, and I hope you and Amity can properly connect and heal in Season 2! Especially now that you’re on your way to becoming a decent role model for REAL this time!

We know that Camila (which is how Dana spells it which when combined with Enchanting Grom Fright’s credits, leads me to consider this THE official spelling) will sometimes buy Luz manga novels of her favorite series, but usually only on holidays or because of a good report card! Awww, why can’t you let Luz enjoy herself more? Like I get that you’re probably struggling a bit financially is a single, working-class mother and also have incentive of wanting Luz to not be ‘distracted’, but this hits close to home given how it reminds me of somebody else I know with ADHD…!

(Also, Luz would trace Hiromu Arakawa manga, which means that Dana has likely seen Fullmetal Alchemist, which means it’s very possible that Belos and his castle took cues from Father and that is a VERY validating revelation for me! They really do have that killer aesthetic, man…!)

Amity’s hair IS dyed and naturally brown, like her father’s… Which confirms more or less that those kids in YBOS are the Blight Parents, and also confirms Amity as a full-blooded Blight! Not to say I was right, but I was right… Mrs. Blight had Amity dye her hair green like hers to be color-coded, which is sickening as-is. Like, are Emira and Edric dressed similarly because their mother encouraged it? That’s a scary thought…

Regardless, if Amity DID rebel a little by choosing a more Azura shade, it seems Mrs. Blight doesn’t really notice or think much of it, because we know this lady will go far when it comes to getting what she wants and if she feels her kids are disobeying her! This also adds more credence to my belief of Mrs. Blight having been the one born into the family, while her husband married in as an outsider… It makes sense she’d have this kind of control in the family, more prominence given to her VA, and the ability to control their children on a visual level, especially if Green Hair is a Blight signature! I have to wonder what Mr. Blight thinks of this… Goodness, can you imagine if his wife made him dye his hair green, too?!

Dana alluded to the Blight Parents having more depth than we might suspect, which… YES, but also she says that Mr. Blight was fun and ‘interesting’ for her? I’ve speculated in the past that he seems a bit more chill and apathetic compared to his wife from the childhood flashback, and based on what we’ve seen from Understanding Willow…

I have to wonder if maybe Mr. Blight is someone who was caught underneath his partner’s abuse as well? Maybe Mrs. Blight also began controlling him, and he sort of just learned to go along with it and accept this…! I wonder if he also has ideas about needing to live up to the Blight family name, as an outsider and as his wife’s husband… And how that might be reflected in him repeating that ‘Blights only associate with the strongest of witches’ to Amity, like he speaks from experience! It’s conceited he calls himself strong in this sentence, but at the same time…

Given the implication that Mrs. Blight holds more power and was able to prioritize her looks in their children over her husband’s… I have to wonder if Mr. Blight is just someone who’s also resigned to her abuse, as a person fully-indoctrinated into her beliefs of superiority and having to set an example that pleases her! He gives me vibes as more straight-forward, like an enforcer while his wife has that more manipulative, mastermind vibes to her… Goodness, are we going to have to rescue Mr. Blight from his wife too?!

There is neither an end nor a beginning, there is just HOOTY… Nobody knows if he’s made of wood or flesh (which implies Eda didn’t make Hooty, just ‘taught him’, and not much), his true nature is deeply upsetting and a major spoiler, AND he apparently has an evil twin named Booty!

Amity is a jock! This is no shock, but Dana also alluded to her being ‘punk’ to impress others but not being comfortable, and… This GIRL, let her know she’s loved for who she is!

Dana confirmed that Bump’s imp on his head is named Frewin, and that he has a purpose…??? Maybe he’s a seeing-eye demon in the literal sense, or covers an exposed brain…?!?? I don’t know. We’ll just have to see, but for now it at least indicates that Bump IS the dude (as implied by Dana’s past art) and we’ll learn more about him, so neat! Bump is a cool and underrated character in my opinion, and I look forward to more of Frewin!

Witch Gems! Dana confirmed that they’re just a fashion thing like necklaces, and that Eda’s wasn’t originally meant to indicate anything… But then Dana realized it was a good visual indicator of her curse and went from there! It seems ‘Hearts of Stone’ is just metaphorical… I have to wonder if in-universe, Eda’s gem functions like a mood ring in that it’s a handy visual indicator of how bad her curse is getting! That alone furthers the disability metaphor, which I REALLY like!

(I have to wonder why we haven’t seen any male witches with chest-gems, is this one of the few gendered things that the Boiling Isles has? Give Edric a chest-gem, I know he’d wear a dress and rock it! Do the same for Jerbo, too!)

Dana also said that should Season 3 be approved (they’re still writing the end of Season 2 people!), we might get a birthday for a cast member! So… SHOW YOUR SUPPORT, give live ratings to this show people c’mon!

Luz is Amity’s first big crush, to nobody’s surprise… You can tell from the way she acts around Luz that this is somebody who’s shown her more unconditional love and patience for who she is than anybody else in her entire existence, that it’s an almost alien feeling to Amity… and while it’s sad she’s never had someone so accepting of her in her life before, it’s also heartwarming to see Luz provide so readily and unconditionally! No wonder Amity is smitten…
