Shit on Danganronpa 3 all you want, but Mirai-hen is just so... fair.

When so many anime/manga are frustrating for the sake of tragedy or taking shortcuts, what is tragic within Mirai-hen is the reality of it all. Because Naegi informs Sakakura that Munakata was manipulated into believing he’s Despair and Munakata that Sakakura isn’t Despair, because Sakakura dies as a hero just as much as the weak idiot who let Enoshima gain control, because Munakata realizes and understands his own mistake, and when he runs to Sakakura one last time he doesn’t face a camera, he faces him.

Because Mitarai thought he could save the world from despair once and for all but was convinced by the words of someone who’d experienced and grown from it. Because Munakata’s views made as much sense as Naegi’s all along.

Danganronpa 3 has flaws overall, especially Zetsubou-hen in my opinion, but there is no other anime I have rewatched four times + some episodes over and over a lot more times. It’s just so solid, everything makes sense, and it’s tragically down to earth.

Naegi informing the two parties of their mutual misunderstandings is so simple yet something that misses from many stories - the common, frustrating question that is “why didn’t you just tell X?” doesn’t exist in Danganronpa 3 and it contributes to the immersion.

(PS: I also wanted to mention this and forgot, so I’ll roughly mention it in this edit - episode 11 depicts each of the Suicide Video’s victims violently killing themselves in a state of pure and utter despair and I live for that crude shit.)

favorite thing about them: He’s incredibly loyal and faithful to the ones he loves.

least favorite thing about them: …he also doesn’t hesitate to use brute force to pursuit that goal, even if this means to beat innocent people that could never be a threat for him. This is something i always hated about him. And he can be the biggest jerk too, lol.
