KEN: How'd you get out in time?! (From "The {Digital} Void"'s EXPLOSION?!!) Inter-national O.C. Chosen Shane: Well, I ran, but. ... I, "got pulled" back into the "stream" just in time. So I watched from above, and - it basically imploded on itself, and dispersed into Digital data. SHANE: ... Whoever made those "capsules"... didn't want them to be found without a struggle. They were likely meant to be "kept" there indefinitely. And whoever "accessed" those capsules KNOWING the tech involved... KEN: ... They were fighting for release. Shane: Because they ruined the glass from the inside, THEN disrupted this... "plan". Ken: You believe it was a "plan"? Shane: Yeah. And whoever it "was" that made the "plan" could still be active. KEN: Currently, we had been fighting the "Dark" "Digital monsters". But they had all had their corrupted data "healed" as of over 10 years ago. They're ALL on our side now... SHANE: ... And they didn't know if they had a true "leader"? KEN: ... They're innocent. (Firmly!) I genuinely believe them to be. (The majority of them...) KEN: ("Angel" and "Akuma" may know something ELSE but... we'd have to ask them...) Shane: Because. Whoever originally "set up" that place... they definitely had "malicious intent". And... SHANE: I think they meant to do "something" with "the eight" beings "trapped" in there. Eventually... KEN: ... KEN: This is just a hypothetical question, but, that place you "visited"... does the name "Dark Area" mean anything to you? SHANE, HEARD IT FROM 'MON AT TIME: ... (How Do They KNOW--) SHANE: If I said it did? But I didn't find out until much later after the fact. (Half-lying) KEN: If those "eight" were being held in the "Dark Area"... and it was by our current possible "enemy", whom we know very little about... Shane: You all don't know much, huh?... KEN, CONTINUING: And the "intention" of that "enemy" being... for those "eight" to, perhaps, either, "fall under enemy control" or even "PERISH"... Shane: Depending on whatever was the "outcome" of "holding" them prisoner... KEN: Either way, those "eight" were likely being led straight to their eventual "DEATH"s... SHANE: (Flashbacking to the panels accessed) SHANE: ... The password to access the panels was "DEATH". (It Wasn't Very Creative.) And the code... (Was set to let the capsules run indefinitely.) KEN: I'd have to ask Koushiro-san again, but... KEN: I'm pretty sure... these signs are the "CLUE"... that the enemy involved could be CALLED... SHANE: SHANE & KEN, TOGETHER: "DEATHMON". KEN: "DEATHMON" was trying to "KILL" the "EIGHT" "CHOSEN" 'Children'. Shane: So the one who "broke out" from the INSIDE... SHANE & KEN: ... "Koushiro"

Wait I should make this a poll. I'm getting a digimon vital bracelet and one digimon card for it but I'm torn between two different selections

This one has a digimon I like at every evolution stage including Rareraremon which is one of my overall favorites and I don't care for a lot of fully evolved Digimon but this one can end on the highly acceptable deathmon or devitamamon

This one is all renamon and digimon I don't care for but can end on parasimon, which is tied for my #1 favorite digimon and the only fully evolved one that's really in my top ten. They put it on this one just because it was Renamon's nemesis in a movie

C'mon Digimon (1997) - Manga oneshot

If you look at any Digimon manga timeline, this was the first manga-incarnation in the franchise. It's like a pilot episode where the concept is still trying to find its footing. It was also clearly made to market the digital pet toy, like a bunch of other Digimon media. I read a scanlation, but it's also included as a bonus in volume 2.

-Haha the slightly off model digimon in this remind me of the American box art for the Digimon Movie

-In the opening scene they're fighting using a big Yu-Gi-Oh-like arena but they're also using digital pet "docks"? Confusing...(Edit: ohhh, you put the dock IN the machine. I want one lol)

-So we have more punny names (Kamon Kentarou) in this. Also, interesting choice giving a human a -mon sounding name.

-We've got the concept of digimon not digivolving again. Shinichiro says that there are some defective digimon out there that won't digivolve no matter what you do. Interesting from a story perspective, but if that turned up in one of the video games I'd be so annoyed lol

-Another concept we haven't seen yet is that Shinichiro's Deathmon can morph into the shape of whatever digimon he's defeated before. Pretty OP...(Death Metal Greymon is a great name)

-Lol cartoonish villain is cartoonish. Shinichiro rubs the death of Kentarou's pet dog in his face. What is this, Elfen Lied?

Well that was...fine. Just a little bonus manga from the '90s. It had heavy Yu-Gi-Oh! vibes for me. The villain, Shinichiro was rich and associated with a big corporation (like Kaiba) and the battles had the high stakes of losing your digimon if you lost. Without an isekai element, this felt a little too generic, so I'm glad they developed things further.

Deathmon was originally created as a submission for the Digimon Web Dot-art contest and was split into two colour variations, though in lore the black variant supposedly functions more like a burst mode. Recently Deathmon has seen a resurgence in popularity being featured in the 2020 anime, Pendulum Z, and Espimon Dim card.

Yes, I'm exaggerating the bloobiness for comedic effect here, but it's not THAT much of an exaggeration.  There's just so many Digimon with skulls and fangs phobia-inducing gangly skeleton limbs and THIS is the one they waste the name "Deathmon" on?  I mean, God bless Adventure 2020 for at least TRYING to make it seem really big and intimidating, but there's only so much it can do to project fear onto something so hugable.

(After some quick research, it seems Deathmon came out of one of those "Design Your Own Digimon" contests, which I guess explains a little bit.  Still, though, way to waste a great name...)
