We’re trying to stop an assassin at a ball, and it was fun imagining what Nox would wear. She’s a bit feral, so she definitely wouldn’t wear something pristine. I think she would like shorter skirts so it’s easier to run around in.

BACKSTORY;

years ago, Siofra was separated from their people after everyone fled from the current settlement due to an attack, they've been trying to find where their people had migrated to. during the attack they, along with other young papiliara, were taken. they'd grown up as a weapon, killing and hunting people down until, upon learning her people were hunted and had their wings(if they had any) ripped from them, they finally had enough, snapped, and used their glaive against their captors. Fray's time working for them earned him names such as "The White Death" or "the Ghost". she's been trying to avoid this large part of her past and find what remained of her people and where they'd fled to but with the fact that her people migrate during season's changing its been difficult for them.

RELATIONSHIPS;

vox: friends/acquaintances with the group, travels with them but isnt particularly close with any of them at first.

APPEARANCE;

hair: white/grey

skin: tan

fray has white, near-translucent wings that rest against their back almost resembling a cloak without the hood and is often mistaken for such, at least at first glance. they have a natural sort of fluff around their collar/lower neck and small "fuzzy" antennae-looking things growing from the top of their forehead similar to where horns might be for other races. Siofra's ears are pointed rather than rounded like a human's however they arent long like an elf's. his eyes are completely black similar to a Tiefling's eyes. fae keep faer hair in a braided style, the sides partially shaved, the colour is naturally white with grey undertones. unbraided the length nearly reaches their waist, braided it reaches the small of their back. their skin is a very light tan, a contrast against the rest of their white colour palette. they have an athletic and androgynous build.

Hit a bit of a wall in fleshing out the Countdown Campaign, and this is a method I definitely can’t recommend to others. But I’ve not drawn in ages, and it felt good to do so again, to flesh out some ideas for Dwarves in this world.   

The main surprise is eyes. Dwarves don’t expose their eyes. On a practical level, they are easily dazzled, which both makes the sun dangerous in some regions, and also means they are easily attracted to gold and gems. Culturally, eye contact is a hefty sign of trust, and reserved to family and close friends.      

Most dwarves occupy the Vanderlands, the wild west central region of the setting. They are hard working, handy, and easily fill niches in the ramschackle communities there. 

Some Dwarves, especially older more established Clans, still hold land in the Aurgelt Empire, and are more prone to mimic the customs therein. Dwarves are amongst the longest lived races in the setting, and so they thrive on playing a long game over the heads of younger kinds.     

The most prestigious and connected institution of Dwarves is the Guild. Creator of the Steam Train, the Guild holds a close partnership with Rail Barons, and tightly guards the secrets to binding elementals and innovating new technology. 

Last and lowest, comes religion. This is, admittedly, shamlessly stolen from a beautiful game called Wildermyth, so check that out. 

Deepist Dwarves distrust the sun and sky. They view the surface as a world of death, horror and short lives, and so often wear skulls to show their disdain for such a realm. 

Instead, the Deepists beckon to the world below, a land of shadows, impervious stone and solid tunnels that will last long past when palaces collapse and empires crumble. How many lurk there is a mystery, but rumours abound that like mythical icebergs, the dwarves on the surface are but a tiny fraction of the ancient kindred.
