Edits: I didn't expect this post to receive so much response. I appreciate those of you who corrected me respectfully. WAZA no longer buys from Taiji hunts, and most of the captures are being sold to aquariums within Japan itself. While many dolphins do get killed, they do get released sometimes too (traumatised). Despite all these, I would like to mention that this piece of art was not only meant to raise awareness about Taiji, but also to shed light on the plight of these animals. Aquariums are not sanctuaries. Dolphins there have a poor quality of life. Empty the tanks.
I also apologise for not tagging this under tw.
Original:
It Should Be Blue.
I started a personal art challenge a fellow artist on Twitter lovingly named Chillcember. This is for the first prompt 'nightmare'. It's a little morbid, but I'm not sorry for painting this. It's nothing but the truth.
In Taiji, when the dolphin hunters gather a pod of dolphins, they'll sell the pretty-looking ones and kill the rest. Imagine having to listen and watch your own family suffer, all for the sake of someone else's entertainment. A method they use to kill them? By tying their tails to their boats so that they drown. By visiting aquariums anywhere in the world, it means you support such inhumane acts. Please don't. Sometimes, there can be so much blood the whole area turns red.
To learn more, head on over to the Dolphin Project.

Tell Sports San Diego That There’s Nothing Sporting About SeaWorld! | PETA
Sports San Diego (a trade name of the San Diego Bowl Game Association) still promotes SeaWorld on its Holiday Bowl website, despite knowing that the abusement park confines sensitive, intelligent orcas.

Credit © 🎞 ✅ @thejourney_and_thedestination Beautiful photo ✒ #Repost @thejourney_and_thedestination —— thejourney_and_thedestination ~~~ “50 shades of grey and black!” . . Spent the afternoon with the northern resident orca whales (A50’s and A54’s) and a small pod of pacific white sided dolphins. The dolphins are lucky they didn’t end up on the lunch menu, as the resident killer whales only eat fish. . The dolphins are very fast swimmers, hence difficult to photograph. I was happy when several surfaced at the same time as the orcas!! . It was lovely day with haze and fog making for an interesting backdrop for the photo. . . . . . . #pacificnorthwest #northvancouver #blackfishsound #orcas #killerwhales #northernresidentkillerwhales #emptythetanks #bigocean #orcawhale #wildlifefriend #nofishnoblackfish #blackfish #animalconservation #savetheocean #wildlifeplanet #naturelover #wanderlust #passion_passport #hellobc #britishcolumbia #animals_in_world #instagood #dolphinsofinstagram #cetaceans #whalewatching #marinelife #whalesofinstagram #dolphins🐬 #canadatravel (at Blackfish Sound) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cghj8ipqnp9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Reposted from @discoversharks Via @savethereef ⚠️TRAGIC BREAKING NEWS, PLEASE SHARE AND HELP US HONOR KISKA!⚠️Kiska, MarineLand’s last orca died earlier today. Her passing marks the end of orca captivity in Canada forever. Poor Kiska was taken from her family in the wild off the coast of Iceland in 1979 and until today she had outlived all her tank mates, including her 5 calves and she was in complete isolation since 2011…FOR 11+ YEARS! She died today, completely depressed and broken as a result of being imprisoned at Marineland. Announcing Kiska's death today, Marineland said: "Marineland's marine mammal care team and experts did everything possible to support Kiska’s comfort and will mourn her loss,” but what they don’t say is that Marineland forced Kiska into a torturous lifelong imprisonment where only in death is Kiska finally free. MARINELAND SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED AND SHUT DOWN AS THIS IS HEARTBREAKING — WE MUST SPEAK UP FOR THE VOICELESS SO THAT KISKA’S TRAGIC LIFE/DEATH IS NOT IN VAIN! We’ve posted about Kiska numerous times on @karmgawa and @savethereef with our friend @walrus_whisperer who has been fighting for her release and we’re reposting those videos now in her honor for you to share with your followers and to tag people, celebrities, influencers and news media who must see and share this too — no other innocent animal deserves such a miserable life/tragic death like this, we MUST remind everyone: #dontbuyaticket to cruel places like this! We are so sorry for everything you had to endure Kiska! #restinpeace #RIPKiska #emptythetanks #stopanimalcruelty https://www.instagram.com/p/CppaxqDu9L0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Posted @withregram • @the_vegan_pilgrim 🌊🐬The brain of the bottlenose dolphin is larger and more complex than a human brain.. But why do humans continue killing dolphins, or imprisoning them in small tanks until they die?? Because humans are greedy with small brains.💀 🚫Boycott all aquariums, everywhere!🌍🌏🌎 🚫Never go to aquariums!🐠🐙🐬 @seaspiracy @seashepherduk #taiji #brain #whales #biology #thecove #dolphins #seaworld #cetacean #aquariums #intelligence #brainpower #taijidolphins #closeallzoos #dolphinshow #seaworldkills #freethewhales #aquariumlover #emptythetanks #freetheanimals #seaworldsucks #endspeciesism #zoosareprisons #freethedolphins #animalliberation #dolphinslaughter #bottlenosedolphin #leaveanimalsalone #aquariumsarecruel #dolphinsofinstagram #aquariumsareprisons https://www.instagram.com/p/ConnjFmPpL8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#REPOST @hakim_komite with @get__repost__app Repost from @freedomfordolphins • 📢 Marmaris'teki Onmega Yunus Gösteri Merkezi'nde yunus ölümleri bitmiyor! @tarimgovtr @antalyadkmp @mugladkmp 📷: Jonas, Tracey Özdemir/Media On Taiji #yunusparklarıkapatılsın #marmarisdolphinpark #turkey #holiday #marmaris #captivitykills #bottlenosedolphin #thanksbutnothanks #emptythetanks #hayvanhapishaneleriyasaklansın #dolphinproject #hayvanhakları #hayvanözgürlüğü #hayvanseverler #yunus #hayvanaşiddetsuçtur #dolphinland #tarımveormanbakanlığı https://www.instagram.com/p/CmWWfyUI22J/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

<“Human Encounter” with Trainer Beluga>
Trainer Beluga: We are now demonstrating human walking behaviour, this is what they do in the wild!
Bottlenose Dolphin Audience: Wow! What a joyful show to watch!
Bottlenose dolphin (Top left), Beluga (Bottom left) and Pacific white-sided dolphin (Right) are all commonly kept in captive, often held in a small water tank. Some aquariums will force them to perform unnatural behaviour like spinning in the air.
Compare to the free-ranging dolphins swimming ten kilometres in the sea, captive dolphins swim back and forth in swimming pool sized tanks. The environment of the tank is nothing like the ocean with complex and variable environment . So the captive dolphins may show stereotype behaviours due to the lack of stimulus which animals performing repetitive behaviours over and over again, such as swimming in circle and logging at the same spot.
Some aquarium attract people to visit their aquarium in the name of “conservation”. In fact, the dolphins species that are kept in the tanks are not endangered, so there is no need to captive breed them recover the population. In fact, forcing dolphins to perform is actually counter-intuitive in terms of education, as it gave tourists a false impression that we are superior and can control wildlife merely for entertainment purpose. So, we should not buy a ticket to any of these aquariums!

Oceans cover 71% of the Earth's surface and contain 97% of the world's water. Oceans have a big impact on temperature and weather because of their massive size. Both humans and other organisms rely on them for food. Oceans are rich in biodiversity and home to a diverse range of plants and species.
World Oceans Day is celebrated every year on June 8 in the hopes of conserving the water body via joint efforts and protecting it from the dangers of human activity. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of oceans in sustaining life on Earth and to encourage people to take action to protect them.
'Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean' is the topic for World Oceans Day 2022. Because the ocean is such an important thread that binds us all together, it must be protected. It must be ensured that the ocean is no longer hurt, but rather rejuvenated.
The concept of observing World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was created to honor the world's shared ocean and to emphasize its vital significance in our lives.
Oceans provide sustenance for billions of people while also regulating climate and creating more than half of the world's oxygen through the creatures that thrive there. Human actions such as overfishing, oil spills, and plastic pollution, on the other hand, have hurt the water body and the marine species that it supports. World Oceans Day encourages people to increase their efforts to protect the oceans from further harm while simultaneously taking steps to restore their beauty.
On December 5, 2008, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution designating June 8 as World Oceans Day.
