Chitty Chitty Bang Bang we love you! Enjoy this new Starkid dreamcast based on this classic movie. Whenever I create a dreamcast with more than one child character, either imagine there are just more children there or that it's still adults and it's played comedically (this will become important when I make my Sound of Music Dreamcast). Be sure to vote in the polls I set up what new dreamcasts and what dreamcasts you want to see revised next month!

Vic Juris: Bleecker Street (1982)
It took me years to finally hear this and only on a streaming format. Ever since finding “Horizon Drive” (’80) which DJ Premier sampled for Gang Starr’s “Mass Appeal” (’94), I’ve been meaning to pick up any of his first three albums. It’s all part of the golden years of jazz / fusion that associated with what surrounded my single-digit childhood in Brooklyn and later on Brentwood. I heard Roadsong (1978) and Horizon Drive (1980) from A to B and they’re both wonderful albums. Thet both sound similar to me but with different visions. No surprise I’d enjoy his third full effort Bleecker Street and sure enough I did, no worries. Juris’ magic on the strings create a mellow, pleasant, and quaint environment that invokes simple memories of people, hat-tips to friends, destinations, and simple games of that time. The problem is, I’ve yet to find any Vic Juris records in the wild. Steve Khan, Eric Gale, Bob James, Jon Tropea - you name it, I have it. But nothing on Juris. Emily Remler, his New Jersey counterpart? Her, too, come to think of it. I’m hoping all that will change during my record-store travels this year.

Content Analysis:
When looking at Twisted as a part of StarKid’s entire body of work, it is easy to see that it is the first of the theatre company’s work to have socio-political commentary as a main theme of the plot and the character’s personal drives. While all of StarKid’s parodies have some elements of social or cultural commentary as featured jokes or talking points in their productions, Twisted’s book is the first of StarKid’s shows that heavily feature direct commentary on significant current events and how such events alter the daily lives of the audiences watching their production.
At the base level, Twisted parodies both Wicked and Aladdin in order to challenge the one-dimensional, stereotypical writing that classic Disney movies have been reduced to in popular culture, and knowledge of pop culture at the time of the production reveals that the show also parodies the Walt Disney Company’s controversial decision to fire its 2D animation department while also buying out the entirety of Pixar in order to maximize Disney’s profits. While it is easy to think that this plot point is merely fan criticism and reaction to such news, Twisted uses this as a comedic gateway into discussing how this action on Disney’s part is reflective of a modern capitalist culture that increasingly foregoes genuine artistry and audience enjoyment for the sake of profit and social control. The parallels become strikingly more obvious as well-known characters become introduced as their satirical counterparts in the show.
For example, Ja’far is representative of the idea of a nostalgic time (that humanity never truly experienced) in which creative arts, like 2D animation, and civil service, like those who work in any general political structure, exist solely to make the lives of the greater population better rather than do so in order to serve their own selfish needs. But, as the audience experiences Ja’far’s beginnings in politics and encounters his increasing difficulty in trying to make the world a better place, we see him become drowned out by the overbearing selfishness of profit-based economic structures benefitting self-centered individuals in the government that control civilian’s lives without giving them any power within their own system. Without realizing it, the citizens that Ja’far tries so valiantly to protect become so jaded by the negative effects that such structure have on them that they eventually turn on Ja’far, an individual who is working against those structures, and on each other, essentially distracting themselves from the true source of suffering-the leadership and the structures of the political system that they inhabit. As well, The Princess begins as the personified version of privilege, a well-meaning but thoroughly uneducated and naive social justice warrior that ends up becoming a much more nuanced character as she matures and experiences a life outside of her privilege throughout the show. She, like any ideal civil leader, eventually uses her experiences and her privilege to ensure that people of all social and economic classes within her kingdom are treated equally and fairly.
Socioeconomic inequality and social injustice are blatantly discussed and represented in practically every scene of Twisted, and the strong book weaves together commentary and comedy in such a way that the audience immediately understands the modern-day implications of the scene without being so focused on the parallels between their own world and the musical one that they’re watching that they become distracted and forget to enjoy the lightheartedness of the show’s ultimate tone and wonderful performances by the entire company.

Weird dream - August 11th, 4 am
I'm in a movie theater. I am watching an animated movie for children. A voice off is explaining the way this world works. In fact, there is a good Dog King. He is kind and nice and funny. He is a dog. All the StarKids happily live under his rule. However, there is also a Cat King. He is a cat. ("I don't have any friend" says the voice off, his voice even, in the middle of the explanation. "Me neither" I whisper. A woman on the front row turns around and stares at me.) The Cat King is evil. He dislikes fun and hates the Dog King.
One fateful day, when the StarKids wake up, they discover that he has appointed himself King of Kings, and now has authority over the Dog King and all of his people.
One day, he is in our house, where we all live. I live there too, I am no longer just a spectator. I don't notice it at all, I somehow believe I have always been inside the story. The King of Kings is evilly unloading the dishwasher. He doesn't acknowledge our presence, nor do anything to us. We are terrified, and all run around, trying to save ourselves. Lauren Lopez doesn't seem to care, she is eating candy from a large bowl.
In the midst of the battle (in which nothing actually happens to us), there is a moment where Meredith Stepien and me are out of his sight (we always were, but now we can be saved). I tell her to run away, and save herself.
(Flashback to another time, another place, another battle. Someone told Meredith to run away. She told them she wouldn't leave them behind. If they went down, she'd go down with them. She's just that great of friend. That's probably the only realistic thing that happened in my dream. Anyway, she gets caught by the villain, because she missed her time to flee. And we all die. Except not apparently because we're alive now. Anyway, I won't let it happen a second time.)
I try to phrase it right. "Run away." I whisper to her. "Go find us some help, you're our only hope." She nods and runs to the door, a knife in her left hand (was it always there?), and tries to open it. It won't move, and she frantically moves the doorknob, trying to leave. She's our only hope. She is about to cry.
The door was always actually a set of double doors. The left one is wide open, and she was fighting with the right one. Someone tells her that. It's either Brian Holden or Darren Chris, my mind was too invaded by my fear or the King of Kings to pay attention. Meredith goes away, we will all be safe soon.
The King of Kings is still evilly unloading the dishwasher. Lauren is outside, running away from the King of Kings, who is chasing her across the garden (he is still evilly unloading the dishwasher, right on front of me). However, she doesn't want to stop eating, so she throws candy in the air to try and make it fall in her mouth, while running. She fails every single time, and candy floats around the entire garden. "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" is playing, more and more rapidly. Eric Khan Gale is Lauren's older brother now. They are wearing matching flannels, and he is chasing her across the garden to try and make her stop eating candy, it's bad for her teeth (there is only one (1) evil King of Kings now, he is still evilly unloading the dishwasher, it's terrifying). Eric Khan Gale is trying to catch Lauren, but she is just too fast. He is also standing right next to me. "I love being her older brother" he says to me. That's weird, because younger siblings are the worst.
Something terrible is about to happen, I can feel it. But I wake up. In the other room, my younger brother is loudly figuring out how the blinds on the window work. "How does this work?" he loudly asks my older brother. It's 4 am.
Now I will never know if and how we survived the King of Kings. Younger siblings are the worst.

Starkid Tanz Der Vampire
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’re invited to the vampire’s ball, in the Starkid dreamcast for Tanz Der Vampires. This one was tricky because A). There are so many versions of this show and the way it’s staged and B). most of them are not english which makes it harder to match the vocal parts (and I did not wanna use the Broadway production as a crutch). Even now I’m a little worried I screwed something up here, but I hope you all enjoy!

Lanzado: 1976 Grabado: October 1976 Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs Genero: Jazz fusion, smooth jazz Duración: 33:47 Discografía: Kudu Records KU-32 Productor: Creed Taylor
Lista de canciones:
"A Secret Place" (Grover Washington Jr.) – 8:14
"Dolphin Dance" (Herbie Hancock) – 8:50
"Not Yet" (Grover Washington Jr.) – 8:36
"Love Makes It Better" (Harvey Mason) – 8:07
Dave Grusin - piano, Fender Rhodes
Anthony Jackson - bajo
George Mraz - bajo (pista 2)
Harvey Mason - batería
Ralph MacDonald - percusión
Eric Gale - guitarra
Steve Khan guitarra (pista 2)
John Gatchell - trompeta
