I kinda wanted to touch on something I mentioned in tags, that a lot of awful aspects/tropes of how "strong/badass" women can be done well. It is hard to do it well, but it is possible. Very often it's the way these aspects are handled and/or the combination of all of them that make the character absolutely awful/insufferable. Here are some books with these things that I think are actually well written and genuinely good. There will be a range of genres and target audiences (I am only going to list the titles, and obviously the books can't be boiled down to one aspect so don't mistake it for "This is the MAIN aspect of the book/character" Also multiple could apply to these but I'm just listing them as I think of them and will only mention a book once.
Constant Quipping: Little Thieves or The Monstrous Regiment
Too perfect/Over-Competent: Graceling, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
"I grew up around 7 Brothers": Magyk (Quite Literally lol she has exactly 7 brothers)
Wearing Heels/Stuff that would be uncomfortable to fight in: Dragon Slippers or Soulless
"Showing Emotion Makes you weak": The Hunger Games, The Screaming Staircase, Vespertine, A Master of Djinn
The Whole Femme Fatale Thing: Killers of a Certain Age, Etiquette and Espionage, Cocaine Blues
There are a lot more but I would like to keep this pretty short.

I recently started re-reading the finishing school books because I cleaned my room and finally found my copy of Etiquette and Espionage. Bean is having lots of fun chewing on the cover and pouncing on the pages whenever I try to turn them!

My writing from 2010 exhausts me somewhat, but I must admit having the rules for the science fair in the story handed out as a limerick because the poetry club decided to involve themselves was a fine bit.

Mystery/Thriller Monday
Tumblr media
It’s set in England in 1851 (but not quite our England). Sophronia is 14, and not the kind of young lady that is expected for the time. So, her mother enrolls her in Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality. But, heh, that is not quite what people think it is either. There’s definitely some finishing going on, but, there’s also (as the title implies) quite a bit of espionage, and even death.
This was such a fun book. Not only was it thrilling and very steampunk (always a plus), but, there were even supernatural parts as well (A werewolf that teaches combat skills, a vampire for history, etc.) The whole book was a heck of a ride, such a fun read, and, part of a series too, woo!
You may like this book If you Liked: A Tyranny of Petticoats by Jessica Spotswood, Newt's Emerald by Garth Nix, or Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

I love your sense of humour and have cracked up at your stories multible times. Maby you can find some inspiration in this:
Price ordering the team to an etiquette training so they know how to behave in case they have to go under cover in a more "fancy" environment (or the upcoming mission may require something like this). I'm thinking about Ghosts "sausage fingers" from the origami bit on a delicate litte cake fork... Or him needing to *converse* with someone.
I think putting these hard soldiers in a situation that's out of their comfort zone is always a fun read!
Thank you for letting us enjoy your fantastic writing! <3
Be gentle, man!
Relationship: TF141 x F!Reader with a potential Simon “Ghost” Riley x F!Reader (platonic?) on the horizon. Also there’s an OC in the story.
Word Count: 1,598 (approx. 7-8 min reading time)
Notes: I began writing this last night as a joke, and couldn’t stop. Thank you SO MUCH for inspiring me to do this, anon. It’s a crackfic btw. (There’s a part 2 now here)
———————————————————————
The training room feels out of place compared to its usual purpose. Bathed in the soft glow of candlelight, the once-busy gym has been transformed into a classroom for an unlikely lesson—manners, of all things. Table manners, to be precise.
“Talk about Fitness Vs. Finesse,” Soap whispers, and you playfully nudge his side. The comment reaches Gaz’s ears, and he lets out a chuckle. Yet, Price’s death stare reclaims your attention and brings you back to focus.
You all sit around a long, polished mahogany table atop the gym’s boxing ring, admiring the delicate china and crystal glassware set before you. It reminds you of Aunt Claire’s preserved collection, which rarely leaves its cabinet. Lady Theodora, your etiquette instructor, assures you that each piece serves a purpose, and you will put them all to use. Every. Single. One of them.
Lady Theodora, the epitome of timeless confidence, moves gracefully around the table. Her silver hair is slicked back, framing a face that exudes years of wisdom and experience. Her Bordeaux-coloured shawl billows behind her as she glides, catching the gentle breeze her steps create. She pauses behind Price’s chair and reveals the reason behind today’s masterclass: an undercover operation.
“In the world of espionage, where appearances can mean the difference between life and death,” she says in a soft voice, “the art of etiquette becomes a weapon, a shield, and,” she concludes, resting her hand on Price’s shoulder, “your ticket to survival.”
“Bollocks.”
All eyes are drawn to the far end of the table, where a shadowy figure prefers to go unnoticed but isn’t afraid to express doubts. The only visible sign of life is a hand fidgeting with the butterknife.
“I beg your pardon, Lieutenant.” Lady Theodora says, and Ghost leans forward, revealing his unmasked—and visibly annoyed—face.
“We’re soldiers, not knights,” he claims. “Teaching us how to use all these,” he says, motioning to the various utensils before him, “is a waste of time, both yours and mine.”
Lady Theodora regards him gently as if looking at a child throwing a tantrum. She smiles and walks behind him, gripping the back of his chair.
“You seem quite certain of your own competence and doubtful of mine, Mr Riley,” she says, amused.
Ghost tilts his head to the side, partially facing her.
“With all due respect, Lady Theodora,” he replies, “I don’t believe you fully comprehend how such missions operate.”
Lady Theodora lets a light chuckle as she moves closer to Ghost’s face.
“My record of 25 confirmed kills, three of which were accomplished with a butterknife like the one in your hand, might suggest otherwise,” she admits. “Now, would you kindly move your seat forward, Lieutenant? I’ll show you how to act like a proper gentleman.”
Ghost’s Adam’s apple bobbles as he swallows hard. He returns the butterknife to its original position and pushes his chair forward with Lady Theodora’s help.
Gaz clears his throat and looks at Soap.
“Imagine her dinner parties,” he whispers so Price doesn’t hear him, “they must be perfectly executed.”
“Bet she makes a killer soufflé,” Soap whispers back.
You look at them and mutter, “You two are beyond help.” Unfortunately, it’s your own comment that catches Price’s attention this time, and he gives you a stern warning to behave.
“Let’s get started,” Lady Theodora says. “Projecting confidence and grace requires proper posture: sit up straight, shoulders back, and imagine a string pulling you upward from the crown of your head.”
You all adjust your posture, attempting to imitate Lady Theodora. Ghost used to a more relaxed posture, finds it difficult to maintain the required formality. His broad shoulders hunch forward, and he struggles to keep his legs straight.
“Excellent,” Lady Theodora remarks, catching Ghost’s struggle but choosing not to comment further. “Next, we shall delve into the art of dining. Each utensil on the table has a specific purpose, and it is essential to use them correctly.”
She points to the array of utensils laid out before you. Multiple forks, knives, and spoons of various sizes and shapes make the sight overwhelming.
“The outermost utensils are for the earlier courses, while the inner ones are for the later ones.” Lady Theodora says, “It’s like unwrapping a gift, one course at a time.”
You all nod and place the napkin on your lap to begin the process.
Ghost’s ingrained military habits take over when food is served, causing him to devour it quickly. He shovels forkfuls of food into his mouth without looking up and barely pausing to chew.
“Mr Riley,” Lady Theodora addresses Ghost, who shoots his head up to look at her. “I understand the military inclination to eat fast, but we must remember that the food isn’t going anywhere. Take your time, savour each bite, and enjoy your meal, please.”
“Sorry ’bout that.” Ghost mumbles with his mouth full.
Lady Theodora raises an eyebrow. “Mr Riley, it is impolite to speak with your mouth full,” she reminds him. “Please, swallow your food before continuing.”
Ghost swallows and clears his throat. “Apologies, Lady Theodora,” he mutters.
Lady Theodora smiles and nods at Ghost’s response. “Very well, Lieutenant Riley,” she says. “Remember, dining is about more than just the food; it’s also about the company and the experience.”
As the training continues, you witness Soap’s attempts to initiate a proper conversation, only to subconsciously bring up military strategies. Gaz, on the other hand, struggles with small talk and, when asked about his hobbies, blurts out his love of explosions.
“Kerosene is one hell of a—”
“No kerosene talk on the table, Sergeant,” Lady Theodora interrupts. “How about we talk about something more appropriate, like, for example, what did you do today?”
“You’re not going to like it.” He replies.
“Did it involve kerosene?” She asks and receives multiple excited nods from Gaz.
Ghost forgets about his napkin while using the finger bowl and instinctively flicks his hands to dry them. Droplets of water scatter across the table, and Lady Theodora steps forward with a calm smile. She retrieves his napkin and hands it to him. “Remember, Lieutenant,” she whispers, “the napkin is your ally.”
Throughout this ordeal, Price seems to be the only one who already has a natural fluidity in his movements. Like he already knows about etiquette.
You compliment his impeccable manners, but Lady Theodora intervenes before Price can respond.
“Oh, that’s because the Captain already received my services a few years ago,” she reveals, winking.
Price, caught off guard, coughs and sputters, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. After regaining his composure, he clears his throat and grins.
“Yes, well, Lady Theodora’s guidance has been, um, invaluable,” he manages to say and lowers his gaze to his plate. Gaz raises an eyebrow, and Soap gives a sly smile.
With the etiquette training completed, Price gracefully positions his utensils on his plate and folds his napkin. Lady Theodora hands him a file stack, which he distributes to you.
“These files contain detailed background information for your assigned roles,” he explains. “Study them carefully; familiarise yourselves with the personas you will embody, and don’t worry; with Lady Theodora’s help, you’ll have plenty of time to learn how to carry yourselves.”
He watches you all as you take hold of your respective files, scanning the pages and absorbing the details that will shape your performances.
“Gaz, within those pages, you’ll uncover the roadmap to shape your tech persona, along with essential contacts and valuable industry insights,” Price declares.
“A startup entrepreneur,” Gaz mutters and nods, “nice.”
“Soap,” Price continues, “your file contains the lineage and history of an alleged oil tycoon family; you’ll assume the identity of their sole son and heir to the business.”
“Why do I get the oil-moneyed spoiled brat?” Soap protests, “Gaz is the one obsessed with fossil fuel!”
Price looks at Lady Theodora, silently begging her to take the lead.
“Focus on embodying the demeanour of an heir, Sergeant MacTavish,” she comforts Soap. “Acquiring in-depth knowledge of the business is not a top priority now.”
Finally, Price shifts his focus to you and Ghost. His voice softens, and a smile appears on his lips.
“As for the two of you,” he says, “your assignment requires a convincing portrayal of a couple.”
You and Ghost exchange a brief look before returning your focus to the files in your hands.
“Laswell will provide you with a forged marriage certificate and photos of your alleged relationship,” Price continues. “The documents will serve as tangible proof if the need to validate your connection arises.”
“Any chance to let us know who or what we’re after?” Gaz asks, and Price shakes his head.
“Baby steps, Sergeant; we’re waiting for Laswell to give us more intel,” he explains, “but as far as we know, we’re dealing with people who can buy their way out of some very sketchy shit.”
“Language, Captain.” Lady Theodora reminds him.
“Please accept my sincere apologies, Theodora,” he says and turns to Gaz. “I meant sketchy things, Sergeant.”
As they continue discussing the mission, your mind wanders on the latest information. Ghost’s partner? How? You look at the file and then back at Ghost. You see Lady Theodora walking behind Ghost’s chair and leaning close to his ear. She looks at you and whispers to him.
“I told you, Lieutenant,” she says, “I’ll mould you into a proper gentleman.”
Ghost turns to face you as well. “I’m afraid that’s impossible, Lady Theodora,” he replies.
But Lady Theodora smiles and touches his shoulder, “Oh, you’ll see, Mr Riley—you’re my gift to unwrap, one course at a time.”

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Aver has no idea why – or even who Tobias Hawthorne even is.
To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man’s touch – and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a conwoman, and he’s determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather’s last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.
Suitors and Sabotage by Cindy Anstey
Two young people must hide their true feelings for each other while figuring out who means them harm in this cheeky Regency romance from the author of Love, Lies, and Spies and Duels & Deception.
Shy aspiring artist Imogene Chively has just had a successful Season in London, complete with a suitor of her father’s approval. Imogene is ambivalent about the young gentleman until he comes to visit her at the Chively estate with his younger brother in tow. When her interest is piqued, however, it is for the wrong brother.
Charming Ben Steeple has a secret: despite being an architectural apprentice, he has no drawing aptitude. When Imogene offers to teach him, Ben is soon smitten by the young lady he considers his brother’s intended.
But hiding their true feelings becomes the least of their problems when, after a series of “accidents,” it becomes apparent that someone means Ben harm. And as their affection for each other grows—despite their efforts to remain just friends—so does the danger… The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White
Mors vincit omnia. Death conquers all.
London, 1883. The Veil between the living and dead has thinned. Violet-eyed mediums commune with spirits under the watchful eye of the Royal Speaker Society, and sixteen-year-old Silas Bell would rather hip out his violet eyes than become an obedient Speaker wife. According to Mother, he’ll be married by the end of the year. It doesn’t matter that he’s needed a decade of tutors to hide his autism; that he practices surgery on slaughtered pigs; that he is a boy, not the girl the world insists on seeing.
After a failed attempt to escape an arranged marriage, Silas is diagnosed with Veil sickness—a mysterious disease sending violet-eyed women into madness—and shipped away to Braxton’s Sanitorium and Finishing School. The facility is cold, the instructors merciless, and the students either bloom into eligible wives or disappear. So when the ghosts of missing students start begging Silas for help, he decides to reach into Braxton’s innards and expose its rotten guts to the world—as long as the school doesn’t break him first.
Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
It’s one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It’s quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to Finishing School.
Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is a great trial to her poor mother. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper manners—and the family can only hope that company never sees her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. So she enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.
But Sophronia soon realizes the school is not quite what her mother might have hoped. At Mademoiselle Geraldine’s, young ladies learn to finish…everything. Certainly, they learn the fine arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but they also learn to deal out death, diversion, and espionage—in the politest possible ways, of course. Sophronia and her friends are in for a rousing first year’s education.
Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
October “Toby” Daye, a changeling who is half human and half fae, has been an outsider from birth. After getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the Faerie world, retreating to a “normal” life. Unfortunately for her, the Faerie world has other ideas…
The murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back into the fae world. Unable to resist Evening’s dying curse, which binds her to investigate, Toby must resume her former position as knight errand and renew old alliances. As she steps back into fae society, dealing with a cast of characters not entirely good or evil, she realizes that more than her own life will be forfeited if she cannot find Evening’s killer.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn’t heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins; a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, they world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won’t protect them from their own creative ambitions of the betrayals of their hearts.
Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zeven’s Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before.
Gwen & Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher
It’s been hundreds of years since King Arthur’s reign. His descendant, Arthur, a future Lord and general gadabout, has been betrothed to Gwendoline, the quick-witted, short-tempered princess of England, since birth. The only thing they can agree on is that they despise each other.
They’re forced to spend the summer together at Camelot in the run-up to their nuptials, and within 24 hours, Gwen has discovered Arthur kissing a boy, and Arthur has gone digging for Gwen’s childhood diary and found confessions about her crush on the kingdom’s only lady knight, Bridget Leclair.
Realizing they might make better allies than enemies, Gwen and Art make a reluctant pact to cover for each other, and as things heat up at the annual royal tournament, Gwen is swept off her feet by her knight, and Arthur takes an interest in Gwen’s royal brother. Lex Croucher’s Gwen & Art Are Not in Love is chock full of sword-fighting, found family, and romantic shenanigans destined to make readers fall in love.

BG3 Tav Backstory Bash by Kelandrin
This is a challenge to help people flesh out their Tav’s backstory by exploring their past. It is organized into four sections with seven prompts. You can treat this as a monthly challenge or a general project. You can write headcanons, fics, or share art based on the prompts! You can interpret the prompts however you want. If you want to share use the tag #bg3backstorybash
I was tagged by @grenanigans <3
I tag @upturninginkpots and @quantum-dragon No pressure at all though!
I actually finally made a Tav with a backstory recently so this is good timing. Forgive me for getting any Githyanki lore wrong. I'm very new to the Forgotten Realms.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is Ga'rak (though who knows what his actual name is)
Tumblr media
Yes I just stole his name from Garak. XD I initially took to calling him this half-jokingly since he reminded me of the DS9 character and it sorta just stuck. (Tbh though he is almost more similar to Odo)
Age: 45-50 years old
Gender: Male
Childhood: Born into a typical Githyanki creche, his childhood was far from typical. Early on, he was singled out for his psionic potential, leading to his separation from the other Githyanki children so he never had any friends his age. His training emphasized not just physical combat but also the mental manipulation of others. High-ranking Githyanki, part of a coalition of commanders open to unconventional strategies, decided to use him as a spy to learn about Faerunian society in an effort to learn their weaknesses.
Teenager/Pre-Game: During his teenage years, he embraced the role of an Arcane Trickster and Lore Bard, atypical classes for a Githyanki. He was dispatched to the Sword Coast under the guise of a socialite, With the aid of spells like Disguise Self (to not appear Githyanki), etiquette lessons from a human teacher his Creche had kidnapped, and a generous flow of gold from Githyanki raids, he seamlessly infiltrated the upper echelons of Neverwinter's society. (I imagine his cover persona was a lot like Jay Gatsby) He's never been in love and I don't know if he will ever fall in love in the future to be honest. (At least none of the romance options in this game really make sense to me for him. Maybe Minthara? But eh.)
Tumblr media
Here is his half-elf disguise. He used it to trick the Tieflings holding Lae'zel captive. His name when he used this form as a spy was Garret or something like that XD.
His primary objective was espionage, identifying weaknesses for a future invasion and subtly undermining the government. As he immersed himself in the local culture, he encountered lifestyles that were very different from his oppressive upbringing. This exposure "corrupted him" and made him realize over the decades how unhappy he was in this role thrust upon him and how he didn't at all believe in the mission. He is also very cynical about the Githyanki government and doubts that Vlaakith is actually a god worth worshipping but he is too complacent to do anything about it. He is jaded and has resigned himself to this life. After all, revealing his doubts would only get him killed and he had no other paths available to him. That is, until he was tadpoled...
Tumblr media
Meeting Shadowheart
Adulthood:
The tadpole's effect caused his Disguise Self spell to be inactive when initially meeting the others, preventing him from concealing his species from this group. As he thought his mission being revealed could endanger him, even to other Githyanki, he concocted a half-truth, telling his companions he was in Faerun as a Githyanki scout, masking his true goals. (Lae'zel doubts his story due to his rustiness and unfamiliarity with Githyanki culture and customs)
Tumblr media
Freeing Gale
Having been isolated from other Githyanki for most of his life with his only contacts being his Githyanki handlers, he feels doubly estranged from both his own culture and the broader society of Faerun. (I was very inspired by stories of undercover agents having trouble re-integrating back into their home countries.)
He views others primarily as sources of information. While his main goal is to get rid of the tadpole, he also sees this time as an opportunity to gather more "sources." The tadpole gang becomes his targets, valued only as potential assets (particularly Wyll), yet he ultimately regards them as expendable.
Tumblr media
Making Conversation
Even though he can come off as affable and charming, his true personality is almost frighteningly calm and detached, traits that initially put him at odds with Astarion and Karlach, who he views as a loose cannons.
Since he is Gith he is skilled with a blade but he prefers not to get blood on his hands. He is a huge germaphobe. (This makes the tadpole even worse for him. Not to mention camping in the woods every night.)
I think he'll likely get along well with Wyll and the Emperor. He can relate to the Emperor's longing for freedom and level headedness, he also appreciates Wyll's impeccable manners and potential high value as a tool. He and Shadowheart would have a mutual respect despite his being a Githyanki, he and Minthara would be cordial, and he and Gale would enjoy discussing illusion magic together. I also think he has a bit of a soft spot for my friend @upturninginkpots's Tav and will eventually come to see her as something of a little sister, he'll give her advice on questioning her own beliefs.
Tumblr media
Here he is with @upturninginkpots's Tav, I'll allow her to introduce her. :)
Lae'zel's aggressive demeanor initially repels him, not least because of his own complicated relationship with Githyanki culture, and due to what he perceives as her "bull in a china shop" personality. She initially thinks he is a puny example of a Githyanki and she finds his cynical attitude to be blasphemous. He sees her as naive and foolish. They may eventually start to realize they have more in common than they think though and he will hopefully become something of a mentor to her in the future.
Tumblr media
Githyanki Reunion
Upon discovering more about Vlaakith's plans, I think he will fully commit to defection. I think at this point he would also tell the other companions his true mission. (I know I can't actually do this in the game but it will happen in my head haha) The challenging thing is whether he is willing to put aside his complacency to help free other Githyanki from her grip, potentially betraying the Emperor and risking his own life in the process. Another consideration is whether a certain headstrong Githyanki warrior will start to question her beliefs and defect as well.
Thank you for reading and thanks for the tag @grenanigans ! If anyone sees this post and you end up making your own Tav post please tag me! I'd love to see it. :)

Berserk oc Ashe Headcannons:
Pre-Eclipse:
-Was fairly a bit more quiet about how she’d personally feel on something
-was more open than her brother was when it came to advising others and adding on to plans and such
-had a growing crush on Griffith due to them bonding over similar interests in books, star gazing, and etiquette in manners and such. Not to mention Griffith’s trust in her of apothecary skills and telling her of the plan at the ball (she was the one who made the switch out poison for him) touched her greatly that she was nearly as trusted as Guts and Casca were
- she kept her mouth shut on those feelings though because she saw how Griffith was courting Charlotte. Not to mention not wanting to possibly irk Casca or even Guts...just thought it better to keep quiet on it
-she had a dislike of Casca for a good while due to the woman’s treatment of Guts. This resulted in a near violent confrontation between the two women one day when Ashe heard Casca call Guts a mad dog and snidely commented “Better to be a mad dog than a lap dog, Casca.”
-Strangely, and perhaps it was because Ashe always kept quiet on her feelings, Casca never fully realized until Ashe snapped at her like that, that Ashe had harsh resentment and anger about her treatment of Guts. It took until after Guts and Casca’s own moment after bonding over the waterfall and Guts earning his 100 slayer nickname for Casca to fully and rightly apologize to Ashe about her treatment toward Guts, something which Ashe (sensing Casca meant it) accepted and just said to not let happen anymore.
-Ashe got along fairly well with the other band members of the hawk, seeing them as brothers. Only one she had some annoyance with was Corkus, but even then she (like Guts) ignored him most of the time
-Despite the armor she’d wear, Ashe wore and dressed feminine since her work was not really battle involved. Due to this, some men in the Band affectionately called her ‘Little Sis’, even if some may have been younger than her. Casca told her the nickname was meant to be affectionate and not insulting, so Ashe didn’t mind it
-Ashe did develop a small friendship with Princess Charlotte. Due to Ashe being the second female member but the most...shown to be woman member, Charlotte would sometimes follow her around and ask her questions. A lot of them relating to Griffith, but some asking about her or her likes and what the band was like. Ashe being more than happy to answer them
- During the Rescue Griffith Arc, Ashe applied a lot of espionage skills within, getting information on the streets, towns, and castles and learning on where exactly Griffith was held, where soldiers were strongest and weakest, and other such. It was her who got in contact with Charlotte to ask for assistance in rescuing Griffith. In thanks for rescuing Griffith, Charlotte offered Ashe a small dagger that supposedly was King Gaiseric’s, a relic said to fend off all and any evil (this will be important for later)
-Like Juedau, Ashe noticed..a lot of signs Griffith’s mind was no longer the same, and in a darker place. She saw how he had attempted (even in his state) to strangle Guts (even if her brother didn’t see it), saw his angry jealous eyes on Guts and Casca, and noticed his...angered dismay at him no longer being able to move. And this was before Wyald fucked up more shit, mind you.
-Due to Griffith’s state of mind, Ashe thought it would be best if both Guts and Casca left then, not wanting them to be burdened, or to see Griffith’s true colors at his lowest possibly...she and a few others would look after him. Unfortunately Griffith heard and tried to run away in despair at losing two of his possible friends/trusted people, triggering the Eclipse....
During the Eclipse:
- Ashe was freaking out to say the least before Casca calmed everyone down.
-When the hand pillar went up, she tried to reach it to get to Guts and Griffith, only for Pippin and Gaston to pull her away
-her branded mark is on her back on her upper left, symbolizing the phrase ‘back stabbed’
- thanks to the dagger given to her by Charlotte, she was able to defend herself when the Apostles tried to eat and ravish her
-Due to their latter action, Ashe grew worried for Casca and started to try and look for her, seeing Casca then....being hung upside and such with demons...yeah, you get it. It was that scene before the other scene that happens...
-Ashe, now in a berserk like fury, began craving away at demons trying to get to Casca and could very much hear Guts doing the same thing from the other side
-Ashe was able to cut the apostle holding Casca and tried covering her in her own torn cloak when she heard Guts scream...seeing her brother and his arm being held in a demon mouth...just as Griffith, or now the newly named Femto awoke
-Femto tried to take Casca away from Ashe in order to commit his first and most infamous act against Guts..but Ashe, now acting on adrenliene, fear, and anger, kept moving and dodging away from both Femto and demons, until Femto tired of it and tried using leviation and telekneisis to make Ashe let go of Casca, freezing Ashe in place so she wouldn’t move
-Ashe, seeing Casca out of her safety and seeing what Griffi-no, Femto was trying to do then, grabbed her knife, and summoned as much willpower as possible to stab herself in the thigh, making her feel pain and able to move...an action that shocked some of the demons, Femto, and Guts (who had freed himself by cutting his arm off and was now pinned to the floor by other demons)
-meantime the Godhand had been watching this and doing some commentary; Slan noticing love, hatred, betrayal, and anger amongst the pleasure and pain, Void recongizing the knife in Ashe’s hands (it’s specutlated Skull Knight is Gaisiric and that he was the priest Gaisric imprisoned), Ubik commenting on the persistance of humanity, while Conrad watches in amused silence
-Now being able to move, Ashe made a dash forward, trying to stab at Casca’s bonds...but instead her dagger is able to plunge into Femto’s stomach, and Ashe, sensing a chance, twists the dagger and cuts across, making the newest Godhand member bleed
-This act earns indignant roars from the apostles, a weak but triumph laugh from her twin brother, and Casca being released and falling down to the floor since Femto is now affected by the dagger’s pain
-Ashe, seeing Casca safe goes to try and pick her up again before fainting to the floor, having used up a lot of energy and the blood loss was beginning to get to her
-At this, both Guts and Casca panic for different reasons; Casca believing Ashe died in front of her (the woman fell and was two inches away not moving, it’s a reasonable thought), and Guts panicking due to seeing a very angry, spiteful look in Femto’s eyes as he glared down at Ashe...and realizing he could hurt both her and Casca now....
-Annnnnd luckily at the point Skull Knight rescues the three of them
Post Eclipse:
- Ashe is a bit more jaded and mistrustful around strangers to say the least
-however she is far more blunt and honest with her emotions the first time around.
- she is very protective of Guts and Casca as well, and later on their son when he’s born (since this AU Ashe prevented the assault on Casca, nothing bad happens in that way to him, though he still has a lot of spiritual powers)
- Casca still has a lot of traces of not always being there at the moment, so Ashe and Guts help her out there
-Ashe also tries to help Guts work out his own trauma with what happened, be it doing some sparring or just talking to him
-Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s a progress
-Ashe doesn’t really want to talk too much on her own trauma...Guts and Casca got it worse, so why add to their burden...it didn’t feel right
-Casca later points this out though; her trauma is just as valid as hers and Guts, and she should talk about it
-It takes awhile longer while the three are traveling (mostly to try and find a safe place rather than revenge like the normal AU) for Ashe to start opening about it, espiecally since she sometimes gets terrfiying nightmares of the cold blue eyes on her when she fell like that...eyes she once saw warmth in, now gone...
~~~~
So, this is about all I have right now for my Berserk AU with my Oc Ashe and boy...this was a lot longer than I thought. I hope you guys enjoy~
I last read...
‘Etiquette & Espionage’ by Gail Carriger
what I wanted: a light, fun read
what I got: that, but on a very basic level
what I thought: The premise of this book was as fun as expected, but it really stays on a very basic level of plot and characters. So it’s a quick and fairly fun read but also very forgettable, which is why I rate it 3 out of 5 multi-purpose “tools” a lady can use.
