Okay, so…. I have a point to make:
If Mike doesn’t know that Will is in love with him, then Byler is canon.
If Mike does know that Will is in love with him, then Byler is canon.
Here’s why:
Everyone knows will is gay. If Mike doesn’t know, then that means Mike doesn’t see Will how everyone else sees Will. Mike thinks that Will is normal. What does normal mean? Like everyone else. So Mike thinks that Will is like everyone else, but everyone else thinks Will isn’t like them. So basically, this means that ‘everyone else’ is Michael Wheeler. Therefore, since he thinks that Will is normal, he thinks that he himself is normal because he is the same as Will. (Gay. Not to say that gay isn’t normal, it just wasn’t normalized.)
If Mike does know that Will has a crush on him, then, OMFG. He wants to be around Will, who he knows has a crush on him, and continues to smile at and apologize to Will to make sure that Will likes him. Any other person who doesn’t want to date their best friend would make sure that their best friend stops liking them.
So basically, no matter what Mike knows, that is proof that Byler is canon.

Hello ranger’s apprentice fandom can we talk real quick about the stupidest thing Flanagan ever wrote
It’s about the bows. Yanno, the rangers’ Iconique™️ main weapon. That one. You know the one.
Flanagan. Flanagan why are your rangers using longbows.
“uh well recurve arrows drop faster” BUT DO THEY. FLANAGAN. DO THEY.
the answer is no they don’t. Compared to a MODERN, COMPOUND (aka cheating) bow, yes, but compared to a longbow? Y’know, what the rangers use in canon? Yeah no a recurve actually has a FLATTER trajectory. It drops LATER.
This from an article comparing the two:
“Both a longbow and a recurve bow, when equipped with the right arrow and broadhead combination, are capable of taking down big game animals. Afterall, hunters have been doing it for centuries with both types of bows.
However, generally speaking and all things equal, a recurve bow will offer more arrow speed, creating a flatter flight trajectory and retain more kinetic energy at impact.
The archers draw length, along with the weight of the arrow also affect speed and kinetic energy. However, the curved design of the limbs on a recurve adds to its output of force.”
It doesn’t actually mention ANY distance in range! And this is from a resource for bow hunting, which, presumably, WOULD CARE ABOUT THAT SORT OF THING!
Okay so that’s just. That’s just the first thing.
The MAIN thing is that even accounting for “hur dur recurves drop faster” LONGBOWS ARE STILL THE STUPID OPTION.
Longbows, particularly and especially ENGLISH longbows, are—as their name suggests—very long. English longbows in particular are often as tall or taller than their wielder even while strung, but especially when unstrung. An unstrung longbow is a very long and expensive stick, one that will GLADLY entangle itself in nearby trees, other people’s clothes, and any doorway you’re passing through.
And yes, there are shorter longbows, but at that point if you’re shortening your longbow, just get a goddamn recurve. And Flanagan makes a point to compare his rangers’ bows to the Very Long English Longbow.
Oh, do you know how the Very Long English Longbow was mostly historically militarily used? BY ON-FOOT ARCHER UNITS. Do you know what they’re TERRIBLE for? MOUNTED ARCHERY.
Trust me. Go look up right now “mounted archery longbow.” You’ll find MAYBE one or two pictures of some guy on a horse struggling with a big stick; mostly you will actually see either mounted archers with RECURVES, or comparisons of Roman longbow archers to Mongolian horse archers (which are neat, can’t lie, I love comparing archery styles like that).
Anyway. Why are longbows terrible for mounted archery? Because they’re so damn long. Think about it: imagine you’re on a horse. You’re straddling a beast that can think for itself and moves at your command, but ultimately independently of you; if you’re both well-trained enough, you’re barely paying attention to your horse except to give it commands. And you have a bow in your hands. If your target is close enough to you that you know, from years of shooting experience, you will need to actually angle your bow down to hit it because of your equine height advantage, guess what? If you have a longbow, YOU CAN’T! YOUR HORSE IS IN THE WAY BECAUSE YOUR BOW IS TOO LONG! Worse, it’s probably going to get in the general area of your horse’s shoulder or legs, aka moving parts, which WILL injure your horse AND your bow and leave you fresh out of both a getaway vehicle and a ranged weapon. It’s stupid. Don’t do it.
A recurve, on the other hand, is short. It was literally made for horse archers. You have SO much range of motion with a recurve on horseback; and if you’re REALLY good, you know how to give yourself even more, with techniques like Jamarkee, a Turkish technique where you LITERALLY CAN AIM BACKWARDS.
For your viewing enjoyment, Serena Lynn of Texas demonstrating Jamarkee:
Tumblr media
Yes, that’s real! This type of draw style is INCREDIBLY versatile: you can shoot backwards on horseback, straight down from a parapet or sally port without exposing yourself as a target, or from low to the ground to keep stealthy without banging your bow against the ground. And, while I’m sure you could attempt it with a longbow, I wouldn’t recommend it: a recurve’s smaller size makes it far more maneuverable up and over your head to actually get it into position for a Jamarkee shot.
A recurve just makes so much more SENSE. It’s not a baby bow! It’s not the longbow’s lesser cousin! It’s a COMPLETELY different instrument made to be used in a completely different context! For the rangers of Araluen, who put soooo much stock in being stealthy and their strong bonds with their horses, a recurve is the perfect fit! It’s small and easily transportable, it’s more maneuverable in combat and especially on horseback, it offers more power than a longbow of the same draw weight—really, truly, the only advantage in this case that a longbow has over the recurve is that longbows are quicker and easier to make. But we KNOW the rangers don’t care about that, their KNIVES use a forging technique (folding) that takes several times as long as standard Araluen forging practices at the time!
Okay.
Okay I think I’m done. For now.

I had a thought earlier about how, as I recall from the City of Wizards story, Moonlight is essentially the Wizards’ perfect Cookie. She’s literally what Dark Enchantress/White Lily has been striving to make. Well probably not exactly, but she’s the Wizard’s version of that, Dark Enchantress and the Witches probably have different interpretations than her. But she still is in essence, what Dark Enchantress ultimately wants
And also, of the Ovenbreak Legendaries, Dark Enchantress and Moonlight are the only two who were created by magical humans, the Witches and Wizards respectively. Well I mean we know DE was rebaked, but she still became who she is now because of the Witches, so in that sense she still counts
Like I feel like these could be the reasons why Moonlight is currently the only Ovenbreak elemental to have a part in the main story, as well as her getting a World Exploration. Narrative wise she has the most similarities to the main plot

This is just an appreciation post for Once In A While, and ONLY the original version by Barry Bostwick. Why are productions always speeding it up and adding dramatic-ass key changes, acting like it’s boring?? Like why do you hate gay people? let my man Brad sing his sad long little ballad!!!!
Let him have this!!!!!!!!

(sorry for leaving y’all in suspense I was grocery shopping) Surprise!! I accidentally got into Len’en like two weeks ago. Whoops! I got ideas for cool drawings to do with each of the BPoHC shrine team members (and you-know-who, ofc, but that one might be… weird lol), but Tsubakura gets to go first cause theirs is the simplest; just greyscale + red color scheme with a split background and the pose is mostly random (maybe they’re squishing Tsurubami’s little eye thing? Idk). Very pleased with how everything worked out; the line for the eye is exactly where the dividing line for the background was and the way I managed to make the vest corseted while not changing the ribbon placement is just perfect. Although I did make their hat smaller out of the aforementioned cowardice also that thing is hard to draw
#art#digital#len’en#tsubakura enraku#for those not in the know: Len’en is a game series inspired by Touhou but there’s a number of things different about it and it is rapidly#spiraling off into a very complicated story and also other game genres; also every character’s gender is officially ‘whatever’#This character (Tsubakura) plays like Marisa but is also a shrine maiden (priest) along with the Reimu type character#Nonbinary (to me) mad scientist.#Replaces soy sauce with calligraphy ink in every culinary application.#Made a nuclear bomb once supposedly on accident.#Locked in a blood feud with their 3(ish) absurdly powerful ex-girlfriends and this has led to at least one actual war. so far#(hello high brightness users! :D)#Apparently mastered genetic engineering and mostly uses it for stuff like making it so they can put ink in their coffee and not die from it#what’s not to love#oh ya I doubt anyone cares much since this was in the tags but I got some stuff wrong due to misunderstanding & exaggeration for comedy sryy#nuclear bomb was definitely an accident cause they got really sad about it after which is soooooo funny#they do eat ink and also soap but it’s not really explained why it doesn’t kill them of why they like it#also they made an artificial human (+ several androids) who’s supposed to be an assassin and used to be an even more blatant mega reference#hasn’t actually killed anyone yet cause their first target is Tsubakura lol#and I’m barely exaggerating abt the ex girlfriend thing; they haven’t been confirmed to have dated in canon but they were quote#‘close enough to want to murder each other’#and one of them is very homoerotic about it all the time so like rlly not that out of pocket#admittedly the one I’m drawing somewhat homoerotic art of with Tsubakura atm is probably one of the other two but whateverrrr#it still fits Arde well enough#*mgs reference

the thing i have the biggest beef with in the witcher netflix is the fact that the writers seem to. like. not like jaskier. like they make geralt be a dick to him “i’m not your friend” and then have geralt turn around and be friendly and affectionate with loads of other characters. moussack “old friend”, that flashback with eskel, “you’re important to me, triss” why can’t we get this same energy with jaskier. begging for a proper apology in season 3 that jaskier doesn’t have to basically fish out of geralt my dude deserves better

I’m a normal amount of rage now so I can articulate myself I think
I understand a lot of online talk is hyperbole. I understand that not every single thing said on the internet is meant to be taken completely literally, the way my brain interprets it at first.
But. But.
The thing is that suicide bait and telling people to die and harassing others online has, historically, not only been incredibly harmful - I will have been on tumblr for a decade this coming spring. I have known people who, as far as anyone could tell, at the very least suddenly deactivated, and likely killed themselves because of a constant barrage of hatred and suicide bait for things like being aro or ace, being pan, being sexual abuse survivors and writing sexual assult fiction to cope and work through their trauma, the ‘reasons’ are endless at this point - it’s also just. Not an effective way to make fandom safer in any way, and the perpetrators of that behavior are never being hyperbolic.
It did not make tumblr safer when a group of people harassed me for misunderstanding the difference between Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder at the age of 16, nor when they continued for two full years to harass me because my first url contained the word “crazy” in refrence to myself. It didn’t make tumblr safer when they told me to kill myself. It didn’t make it safer when they told me they were happy my father died, because I was hurting and that’s what they wanted. It didn’t make tumblr safer when I felt so personally in danger that I had to send an ask containing the address and phone number of the person who started all of it, someone I knew In Real Life and Knew My Schedule, to them, just to get them to stop for fear I would contact their mother or call the police, because the harassment was that intense. And I was one of the lucky ones - someone who knew their harasser irl and could properly leverage a threat like that in exchange for finally being left alone after two full years of nonstop hell every time I opened the site.
And before it crosses anyones mind - yes, it is suicide bait to tell someone they should die. We aren’t playing this game. Just like when aphobes said it so fucking often that prominent ace bloggers actually did end up hurting themselves, and got mass reported for it and changed it to “piss your pants”, saying “you should die” is the same intent as “kill yourself”. Don’t fucking kid with me.
It doesn’t make fandom safer for minors to tell sexual assult survivors to die because they wrote fiction to work through their trauma.
It doesn’t make fandom safer for trans folk to tell trans fans of shitty authors to die.
It doesn’t make fandom safer for mentally ill or disabled folks to tell people to die.
What it does, is convince vulnerable people that they really are better off dead. What it does is convince people you barely know, who have friends and family and lovers, to kill themselves, on the basis of what fucking fandom they’re in. I cannot imagine a more fucking morally depraved reason to say that to anyone.
It helps no one to do this. It benefits nobody. It doesn’t make you a virtuous person, it doesn’t make you morally correct.
It makes you someone who, without the threat of irl consequences, would happily, eagerly, and with sick relish, make someone’s life hell because you don’t like that they like a certain media.
And regardless of what that media is, the very idea of that is absolutely disgustingly wrong.
Human rights don’t only extend to people you like. They extend to everyone. So should your goddamn morals.

Moonshot: A Cheng'e Story

Part 4 of 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng delivers exposition.
In a past life, he stole immortality from Hou Yi!Wei Wuxian who had saved the world. This immortality was a trap though as it destroyed his mortal body. In order to continue existing he is completely dependent on the medicines made by the Jade Hares and so can never leave the moon. With Jiang Cheng as a patient, the Hares were able to develop the Elixir of Life which would fortify the body enough to take in the core without negative consequences, but it took too long. Hou Yi!Wei Wuxian had already died. Jiang Cheng has been holding onto hope that Wei Wuxian would come back and so kept himself (and the core) alive all this time.
The Lans run through the unraveling palace. Lan Wangji worries for Wei Wuxian. Lan Xichen is clutching a huge jar of wine, what is implied to be the wine Wei Wuxian was drinking as well as the Elixir of Life. He is crying…it seems Jiang Cheng would truly die without the core.
Wei Wuxian is not on board with Jiang Cheng’s plan…leaving him with an eternity alive without Jiang Cheng. In the chaos of the illusions ripping apart, reverting everyone to their normal state, he tells Jiang Cheng he loves him and just wants another chance together.

I was debating whether Jiang Cheng should go as far as admit he walked into Jin Guangshan's trap on purpose, but given how he behaves in canon I didn't think he should.
If you were wondering exactly what was premeditated, Jiang Cheng has long told the Hares that he needed to stick around to give the core with the safe way of receiving it to Wei Wuxian, but also couldn't actively seek him out nor did he tell the Hares to do so. They did that of their own initiative parent trap style, seeing how Jiang Cheng couldn't leave and all the waiting was deteriorating his mental health.
Now for a wholesome brother illustration as a palate cleanser.
Tumblr media
The Lans here are not gentry like in MDZS but immortal pharmacists, so I wanted their clothes to be simpler as well, closer to monk-like than their canon counterparts. The bunny ears are a nod to stories like Journey to the West, where transformations often have a flaw that reveals the true nature of the supernatural.
