my brain crossed its wires last night and provides me with a revolutionary phrase that is, in my opinion, both extremely funny and also incredibly useful:
extended siblings

ROTTMNT Theory: Donatello's Hidden Role
After rewatching ROTTMNT (shorts and movie included), I realized something about Donnie's character that I've hardly seen anyone mention, and I'm going to talk about it in depth here.
I'll assume you've already watched the series and dive right in, but spoiler warning under the cut in case you care about that.
Let me start with something seemingly off topic. Raph is the oldest of the four brothers, which landed him the responsibility of keeping his younger siblings safe when their father was unavailable. (Not trying to bash Splinter. He's gradually grown to be a better parent later on, but you can't deny he was fairly neglectful in the beginning of the series)
The constant pressure Raph went through was brought up in the episode "Anatawa Hitorijanai", and then the movie showed he still struggles with it now.
He's constantly shouldering the burden of being their family's sole protector, but is this the truth? What if I told you there are actually two protectors in the family? And that the other one was Donnie all along?
When you look closely, Donnie is surprisingly protective of his loved ones. I did a tally of how often each brother exhibits what could be protective behavior, and Donnie was in second place (29) after Raph (35). Some of these choices are debatable, but here's a bunch of examples as pictures.
Would you believe me if I told you I still have a couple smaller examples I had to leave out due to the picture limit? And that's not even including the few moments where Donnie and Raph ever-so-subtly parallel each other.
All things considered, Donnie and Raph aren't so different. Raph is the primary protector who faces the threats head-on with his physical strength, while Donnie is the secondary protector who tends to use more distant methods with his tech and wit. However, when push comes to shove, Donnie will also step up to take direct action when he deems it necessary.
They may be the brains and the brawn, but they both use their respective skills to defend and support their family.

AFO going "Why are you paying attention to glowing boy? I was born first! Here! I'll kill him and steal his quirk, then you all have to pay attention to ME!" is the most AFO thing ever.

have you guys thought about the cat lately. i have. its the way that nanami carries her guilt forever, and convinces herself that every issue in her and touga’s relationship stems from it. its the way that touga clearly cared about the cat (and the one that anthy gifts him, too) but is unable to see it as anything other than a gift, an object, something to be owned by him: this is of course how love works. it is a tiny little animal abandoned and unloved and taken into a home and a family that will kill it even as it is loved. it is favourited and scapegoated at the same time. it’s the greatest gift of all. we should live to help each other, shouldnt we? man oh man. touga protected the cat from nanami but nanami protected touga from the cat. and who even is the cat anyway? something cuter, easy to remember nicer style kitty? juliano? miki and touga’s dialogue in episode eleven about treating your sister well (like a pet cat?). the cat being hidden away in the box, the cat with its wide and innocent eyes that nanami cannot forget. forgive me. forgive me. anyway yeah ive had some thoughts about the cat i guess

The other members of the Noceda family coming to see Camila for Christmas or something like that and remaining there for like a week and realizing that not only there is clearly a “before and after” with the family pictures now including two new kids, but that these new apparently completely normal kids have just something slightly off about them (uncanny valley effect, Vee and Hunter aren’t human) and they start wondering what is actually up as Vee and Hunter fail more more to act as Perfect Human™️ (“they just came from a bad home” said Camila, after Abuela saw Hunter dip his hand in boiling water to stir the pasta; “Oh it’s just a genetic defect” said Camila after Tio saw Vee do the vertical eyelids thing) and one day everything crashes down when a very sleepy Vee who just woke up forgot about turning Human cue chaos ensuring and a lot of yelling (imagine explaining to a old christian lady that yes you adopted a demon and said demon is actually the sweetest kid ever and wouldn’t hurt a fly)

I'm going to say, as someone with red hair whose mother was blonde and father had dark brown hair, seeing people try to piece together the Church family genetics like it's a puzzle is amusing. You're 100% overthinking it.

Got inspired to revisit this FEH comic redraw I did when it first dropped! Specifically these panels:
Ended up freestyling that second Xane though LMFAOO he is just so impish to me...
If you wanna get Old Art Jumpscared I'll also include the original sketch under cut!
AAAAAAAAA JUMPSACRE AAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
In a way though, I'm glad that I dropped it and picked it up again later... like I feel like this isn't even from that long ago (guy who has no sense of the passage of time voice), but the characterization and even design of Moe is so different. The Scrunch and :< face were game changers for it LMFAOOO (also just making it autisticer 👍)
Beyond that I think everyone looks a lot better and closer to how I envision them, esp Loki!

Step dad Criston Cole HC:
his kids never got too big. never too big for him to (at the very least try to) hold close, to carry around, to rock them to sleep, to let them sit in his lap or be buried in his side. they're never too big to run to him for comfort. they're never to big to need their tears wiped away. his kids are never to big for him, they never 'age out' of his love and care, he will always be their dad in every way until he draws his last breath.
