Drew some green-haired Akira Toriyama girls to practice sketching in a different style! Definitely took a few tries to figure out those huge foreheads!!
I haven't watched anything Dragon Ball in ~20 years, but Bulma was/is my favorite. I remember always wanting her to have more screentime in the Toonami days XD Rosie from Dragon Quest Builders 2 is also really cute (as are all Toriyama-style glasses girls!), but she accidentally became my video game wife due to her and my builder having the same name (talk about meet-cute! We’re very happy together). Also her enthusiasm for saving her island is so wholesome 💛

Persona 5 Stardew Valley au
So we've got the animal seller, Haru, who's parents divorced when she was young. She spent her teen years in the city with her father, but once an adult she decided to live with her mom, and has fallen in love with country life
Makoto has lived in town her whole life. Her older sister left to have a fancy city job, and thinks Makoto is wasting her talents and smarts by staying to keep up the family tradition. Makoto knows someone has to protect the town, and gladly draws her sword to do so. She trains by cutting down trees for the local artist and for town projects
Ryuji is a former golden child. He was going to be a star athlete, but an accident took it from him. He's not really doing anything at the moment, just working on loving life again. His Ma is the bus driver
Shiho moved to town after a similar incident to Ryuji, only she puts all she is into work, to have a place so when they're adults, her girlfriend can leave her family behind so they can be together. She only recently took over the carpentry business from her mentor, and her girlfriend Ann helped expand the business to include furniture and house decor, with design input
The pub in town in Leblanc. While the owner, Sojiro, specializes in coffee, he'll accept local foods to make dishes by request of the townspeople. His daughter Futaba is a recovering shut in, and his wife Wakaba runs the town clinic, with her med student Tae
Yusuke appeared one day, having sold all he had to find a font of inspiration. He fell for the valley, and at first lived in a tent near the mountain. Makoto, who nearly mistook him for a monster, invited him to stay on her family's property. He mostly paints, but does sculptures for order from the nearby city to pay his share of living costs
The town blacksmith is named Munehisa Iwai. He's the broody type, but cares for his son a whole lot. He's just, not good at showing it. He often requests things his kid would like
The town store used to belong to an older man, but he passed it on to a wayward boy and his younger brother, both whom he met by chance. The boys, then in foster care, lived with him until he became too old and ill go run the store. Akira and young Morgana still keep the Velvet Room running, even if old man Igor is living in Hospice
And, the mayor, Lavenza. She's very new to the position, which used to be Igor's. She's hoping to improve the town a lot, and is caring for her younger twin sisters
A strange man lives on the beach, with a strange talent for fishing. Goro doesn't talk about who he was before he moved there. It's behind him.
The library is run by Hifumi, who wants to reopen the museum portion after her parents sold the artifacts to keep it from closing. Hifumi thinks a museum would inspire tourists to donate,
And, finally, our farmer.
Sumire feels lost. Her sister died, her parents can't speak to her without crying, and she feels, trapped, so she impulsively quits her profession. She finds a letter from her grandfather, with the deed to a farm. Needing a reset, she leaves the city and life behind to live in a small town in the valley, where no one knows her, or her sister.
To clear things up, Makoto and Ryuji both grew up in town, have been friends the whole time. Futaba has been in town since she was 6, Hifumi was born there, and Akira and Morgana have been there since they were 14 and 6, now about 21 and 13. Shiho and Ann were in Ryuji's class at school, since they had to travel to a nearby city for school. Haru moved there when she was 18, Yusuke and Goro appeared around 19-20.
Anyways. Talk to me about this
(I'm open to any ships for it pretty much, but I will say I have Okujima in it.)

Official Akira Pre-movie Timeline
Character childhoods, historical events etc.
hiiii Akira tumblr, I haven't been around here much but here's a translation I did. I've never seen this full timeline translated anywhere, so maybe it'll be of interest !😳
(I did a condensed version on Twitter a while ago, but I figure it's easier to follow in its original format .)
(Long post under the cut)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source is the book Poster & Graphic Akira released in 1988. Also a special thank you to my old friend Shina-san for the photos from the book, I don't yet own a copy myself !!
1970
Nezu's birth - Born in Chiba as the third son of farmers.
1976
Colonel's birth - Has an older sister and an older brother. His father served in the Japan Defense Agency, JGSDF major.
1977
Nezu age 7 - Started elementary school.
1982
Nezu age 12 - Started middle school. Excellent grades.
1985
Nezu age 15 - Started high school.
1988
Nezu age 18 - Started law school. The disaster of Akira’s awakening occurred. In the chaos of the next 3 years, he studied life as a black marketeer. During that time he became acquainted with the people of this underworld.
Colonel age 12 - His father died to Akira’s first awakening. (He was on a special mission, suspected to be related to the Akira Project). After the world war (which ended after 3 weeks), until he was 15 he spent the next years of chaos with his mother and siblings. These events would profoundly shape his later development. (Until 1991, Japan lacked a governing body and was controlled by the US)
1992
Colonel age 16 - Started night school. Studied while working.
1993
Colonel age 17 - Having regained autonomy, Japan emulates the US and establishes an American-style military.
1994
Nezu age 24 - As university resumed operation, he returned to school.

Colonel age 26 - Returns to Japan. Establishes the Army Special Forces. Becomes its commander. Promoted to Major.  Dispatched in the Soviet-DPRK War, which had been ongoing since 1996. He is awarded a decoration for his service.
2003
Colonel age 27 - Through matchmaking by his superior officer, he gets married.
Kei - Born in April. Her father, born 1967 (age 36), is a teacher. She has an older brother. They're 14 years apart.
2004

Yamagata - born in November. His father is a Yakuza.
Colonel age 28 - By creating a new unification of land, sea, and air defense systems, he successfully allows Japan to gain independence from the US protective defense system.
2005
Nezu age 35 - He trains diligently under Miyako, and establishes himself. From around this time he separates under a new sect of Miyako's religion, and starts a political organization, becoming its president. Behind the scenes he is backing anti-government activists at the same time.
Kai - Born in January. His father works in the construction industry. He is blessed with a good home environment.
Tetsuo - Born in July. His father born 1980 (age 25). His mother born 1981 (age 24). In 1984, as part of the Akira Project, experiments were conducted on children around the age of 10, and genetic manipulation was (secretly) performed on newly born children. The effects of this skipped a generation and manifested in Tetsuo… and are gradually beginning to show in other children.(His grandfather was a genetic engineer. He participated in the Project. He died during Akira's awakening in 1988)
Colonel age 29 - He and his wife separate. They have no children.
2006
Yamagata age 2 - His father is arrested. He will serve 25 years. His mother makes a living as a hostess.
2008
Kaneda age 4 - His little brother is born. His parents open a laundry service. His little brother is born with a disability, and goes between home and treatment centers since the time he's 2 years old.
Yamagata age 4 - His mother gets a boyfriend. A little brother is born.
Kei age 5 - Her father dies. (Illness)
Tetsuo age 3 - His father (a graduate student), who's been sickly since birth, develops pneumonia from the common cold, and dies. His parents were never officially married, so as his father's child born out of wedlock, he's poorly received by his mother's side of the family.
Colonel age 32 - He is appointed commander of the nation's top secret 'Akira Plan' as Colonel. (The 'Akira Plan' began 3 years after Akira's awakening in 1988, when the US began investigating, and in 1996 it was turned over to the Japanese government. Since then, despite organization of records and repeated experiments, there hasn't been much progress. This may be why the US let go of it….) The heads of government began to feel threatened by the Colonel's excessively growing power, so even though it was a top national secret, they appointed him to this do-nothing position to force him to withdraw from the front lines, as a means of dismissal. …As for why the Colonel resigned himself to this sinecure, perhaps it's because he was seeking answers about his father's death, or trying to fulfill his father's dying wish, or maybe he himself saw potential in this investigation…. There are various possibilities, but one can only speculate.
2009
Yamagata age 5 - His mother gets another boyfriend. A little sister is born.
Kei age 6 - Starts elementary school. Her older brother is 21. He's already a student activist while also supporting the family.
Tetsuo age 4 - His mother remarries. Tetsuo is adopted by another family. But he can't get used to his new home and is gradually shunned as a gloomy child.
2010
Kaneda age 6 - Starts elementary school. Due to the fatigue of nursing his younger brother, his father collapses.
Yamagata age 6 - Starts elementary school. Another little brother is born.
2011
Kai age 7 - Starts private elementary school. Gets excellent grades.
Tetsuo age 6 - Starts elementary school. At this time he starts repeatedly running away from home.
2012
Kaneda age 8 - Changes schools due to his little brother changing treatment centers. His mother runs off. They live off of government assistance. His father shows a distinct turn towards alcoholism.
2013
Kaneda age 9 - His father is deemed unfit to take care of the children, so Kaneda is sent to an orphanage. His little brother is kept at a hospital. Half a year later, Tetsuo comes to the orphanage.
Tetsuo age 8 - His parents try to return him, but his birth mother won't accept him, so he's sent to an orphanage. He then meets Kaneda.
2014
Kei age 11 - Starts middle school.
2015
Kaneda age 11 - Graduates from the orphanage and goes to a boarding middle school. He's separated from Tetsuo.
Yamagata age 11 - Starts middle school. His mother continues to have children, both boys and girls. She also keeps changing boyfriends.
Kei age 12 - Her older brother is arrested as a suspect in a major incident. (Something like the Mikawashima train crash). There are rumors that it was a US plot against the organization her older brother was connected to. Following this, Kei's family was supported by donations from her brother's group, organized by her brother's junior, Ryusaku.
2016
Kaneda age 12 - His defiant attitude stands out in school.
Yamagata age 12 - Caught by the police for shoplifting. He was stealing sweets for his little siblings.
Kai age 12 - Goes to the same private academy for middle school.
Tetsuo age 11 - He's adopted again by another family. He then starts middle school.
2017
Nezu age 46 - He may be doing it to spread the religion's ideals, or he may be using the religion for his own desires, or perhaps both….?
Kaneda age 13 - A complete juvenile delinquent. His grades are above average.
Yamagata age 13 - His mother joins a new religion. He leaves home.
Kei age 14 - Her older brother dies in prison. The authorities claim it was a suicide, but it's suspected that he was tortured. Kei leaves home and asks Ryusaku if she can become an activist too.
Tetsuo age 12 - Becomes truant. Frequently runs away from home.
Colonel age 41
2018
Kaneda age 14 - Expelled after a brush with the law. Starts at vocational school.
Yamagata age 14 - Starts at vocational school.
Kai age 13 - His father runs away from home. They find him. His father confesses: "I'm gay, and have been deceiving our family this whole time…."
Kei age 15
Tetsuo age 13 - Due to misconduct with an elementary school student, he gets in trouble with the police. From this point forward he stops going to school.
2019
Kaneda age 15 - Forms a motorcycle team at the vocational school.
Tetsuo enrolls.
Kai age 14 - As junior representative, he reads an essay titled 'Is Life A Joke' to the graduating seniors, and is suspended. One week later, he turns in his notice to withdraw, and enrolls in vocational school himself.
Tetsuo age 14 - His parents convince him to go to vocational school. He reunites with Kaneda, and is admitted. There, he joins the motorcycle team.

Just saw Prey on Hulu.
Holy shit. Holy SHIT!
This is the best Predator movie since the original with Arnie! I love it to death and it has instantly become one of my favorite action/horror movies.
And now, some more ideas for historical Predator movies.
-
Predator: For Honor
Taking place in Sengoku era Japan, the year 1500 to be precise, our hero is a young Samurai warrior named Akira. When a battle ends with their enemy commanders being slaughtered and butchered by an unknown enemy, Akira learns of a terrible and dark legend of his homeland.
Every one-hundred years, when heat and conflict are at their highest, a demon descends from the heavens and seeks the mightiest warriors to hunt and slay. The last time it came, it was slain by Akira’s ancestor who fashioned it's mask into the helmet for his family armor. Now, one hundred years later, that demon’s son is here to wipe out Akira’s clan and restore it’s honor.
As people close to Akira begin dying, he must cast aside his fear and self-doubt and force a final confrontation between him and the creature. A duel, from which only one warrior will emerge victorious.
-
Alien vs Predator: Gevaudan
It is the late 1760′s, and a monster hunts the woods around the French village of Gevaudan. It hunts at night, and kills at will, and none have been able to even so much as see the beast and live to tell the tale. The people live in fear of the woods, cut off from the rest of the world.
However, innkeeper and farmer Jean Chastel soon discovers the truth. It is no wolf who hunts the woods of Gevaudan, it is a demon of the night, a scaly thing of pure black that emerged from a fallen star.
Jean tries and fails to slay the beast and narrowly escapes with his life, thanks to the intervention of a mysterious monster. A two-legged lizard creature, just as alien as the Beast, but perhaps a bit more human.
Jean and the hunter from the stars must join forces in order to slay the Black Demon: the Beast of Gevaudan.
-
Predator: Black Flag
Taking place during the Golden Age of Piracy, our main character is Louise Poulneax, an escaped slave who has joined the pirate crew of Captain Avery “Blacksmith” Gordon, a former British Captain who led a mutiny and took up piracy when he was ordered to move slaves by his commander. Now he terrorizes the Atlantic and Carribean in his ship: The Artemis.
After raiding a Spanish Galleon, Louise finds a mysterious weapon, a spear-like thing that can collapse in on itself. Louise takes it, thinking it just another prize, but soon the pirate crew are being hunted in every port, butchered and hung up to dry like deer and rabbits.
Soon Louise and Captain Gordon must prepare to face the demon hunting their crew for daring to hold onto it’s technology. The pirates will need all their will to survive against a demon such as this.

DOES TENSHINHAN REALLY TRAIN ALL THE TIME?
Tumblr media
The short answer... "NO." The long answer...
DRAGON BALL Z:
In the Cell Saga, Tenshinhan had expressed multiple times that he felt useless. In fact, the guy who many in the DB fandom inaccurately claim trains non-stop actually lost confidence in himself so much so that Tien even REJECTED training in the RoSaT.
Tien could've gotten 1 year's worth of training in 1 day, yet he straight up refused. That alone proves that Tien DOES NOT train all the time like a Saiyan as so many people suggest. They are misinformed or willfully ignorant.
Tumblr media
After Goku died, Tien felt depressed & lost some motovation to train (others felt depressed as well). He told his friends that they would probably never see him again. Then, he disappeared for 7 years & only reappeared briefly during the Buu Saga.
Tumblr media
Why was Tien absent during majority of the Buu Saga?
Why did Tien choose to stay out of the 3 day battle until the very last moment while being fully aware of the situation from day 1 due to Babidi's telepathy?
TENSHINHAN WAS DEPRESSED & many fans fail to realize this. Tien even calls himself "USELESS" again in the Buu Saga. Tien did not want to join the fight because he had lost his fighting spirit. So, what exactly was Tenshinhan doing during the 7 year time-skip? Well, Toriyama actually tells us what Tenshinhan was doing...
TORIYAMA INTERVIEW:
Tumblr media
Toriyama explains in an interview that in addition to Tenshinhan's training, he mostly farms & Chaozu helps him. (Even Yamcha occasionally stops by to help out when he isn't being a freelance bodyguard.)
Read the full article for yourself here.
And when you examine Toriyama's words closely, he says that "[Lunch] wasn't cut out for farming, and Tenshinhan has no interest in romance, so she left after a few days." Lunch was last mentioned to be chasing after Tenshinhan at the begining of the Saiyan Saga. This implies that Tien had actually been farming at some point soon after the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai if not sooner.
Not to mention that "mostly farms" means that Tien does other things too.
Tenshinhan DOES NOT constantly train as many fans falsely claim. The only ones who Toriyama said train all the time are Goku, Vegeta, & Piccolo. And the series supports this statement.
Tumblr media
DRAGON BALL SUPER:
Tumblr media
The Resurrection F manga & the 7th ending for DBS reaffirm Toriyama's statements that Tenshinhan & Chaozu are indeed farmers.
Furthermore, we are shown in DBS EP 89 that Tenshinhan has also opened his own dojo & is teaching advanced martial arts to 12 students (+ Yurin later).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CONCLUSION
The notion that Tenshinhan trains all the time is purely fan conjecture that is taken as gospel.
Tien has been farming for at the least since the begining of DBZ.
Tien started a martial arts school at some point after the Universe 6 vs Universe 7 Tournament.
Many in the DB fandom don't fact check most statements made in the fandom. Then, they end up believing and regurgitating misinformation. So, HERE ARE THE FACTS! For those of us who know that Tien DOES NOT constantly train, this post/images/links can be used as evidence during disputes & discussions.
I'm tired of this fandom spewing inaccuracies as truth without getting checked. And many falsely claim that Tien trains all the time in order to make the argument that Tien deserved to be the strongest Earthling instead of Krillin & so that others believe the misinformation. They attempt to use Krillin as some sort of stepping stone with false information, but these fans do so at the expense of Tien's character development that they conveniently overlook.
If your feelings aren't validated by facts, then you are wrong. Once you are corrected, you are now right. If you want to be right, often times you have to be corrected.
[EXTRA]
It appears that Toriyama revealed that Tenshinhan was a farmer soon after the Freeza Saga when Freeza came to Earth. Tenshinhan & Chaozu were shown in a mountainous area while wearing clothing that resembles a Chinese winter farmer's attire along with some sort of carrying bag tied around their torso that they store their winter crops in. Not to mention that Trunks arrived in the past during a winter month, so them wearing winter farming attire makes sense given we know they are farmers. {I'm open to being corrected on this nugget of info if needed because I don't have extensive knowledge of historical Chinese attire.}
Tumblr media
TENSHINHAN, CHAOZU, YAMCHA, & KRILLIN: They are still marital artists at heart, but there was 7 yrs of peace. If there was no enemy to fight, doesn't retiring from fighting make sense? Although, their retirement was only temporary as we saw in DBS. People hate on Krillin & Yamcha for retiring, yet forget that Tien and Chaozu retired too. All had good reasons to retire, but they all still did some form of martial arts during their retirement even if it wasn't anything too extreme; Krillin training with his wife & being a legal crime fighter without using weapons against armed criminals. Tien & Chaozu training & farming & later starting a martial arts school. Yamcha being a freelance bodyguard & occasionally helping Tien and Chaozu farm (possibly training with them occasionally too).
With Tien being depressed after the Cell Games, it makes sense why Launch still visited him from time to time even if he didn't want a romantic relationship with her. She was another friend to help him out.

Sir Nobody
(Notes before beginning: *Spoilers for A Link to the Past and related manga, and Oracle of Seasons and Ages manga. *Reminder that manga reads right to left.)
I've said before that I don't subscribe to the fancanon that Legend is Zelda's brother, because the point of Legend - or, indeed, any Link - is that they come from humble origins.
But that's not entirely true.
In A Link to the Past, Link is the last in a bloodline of knights that Agahnim seeks to destroy.
Tumblr media
But he didnt know that.
In Shotaro Ishinomori's A Link to the Past comic, after Link's parents (both knights) disappeared into the Dark World, his uncle deliberately kept him from royal politics, and Link believed his parents to have simply died. He gets called into the role of the Legendary Hero, completely baffled, wondering why the hell some ordinary kid can suddenly telepathically communicate with the princess.
It's much the same in the Akira Himekawa manga. Link has lived a docile life being an apple farmer, raised by his uncle, believing his parents died when he was a baby. His uncle suggests that when Link was younger he had dreams of being a swordsmith, and Link fobs him off thusly -
Tumblr media
(Also, he cooks!)
Later, when shit starts to hit the fan, it's evident that Link was totally invested in his orchard, and the future he'd seen for himself was that of a provider.
Tumblr media
He was thrust on his journey with just as much bewilderment as most of the other Links.
Tumblr media
Here is also a good place to compare the wording of his uncle's final dialogue in the Japanese vs English releases of the game. English gives us, "Save the princess. Zelda is your...", which of course gave rise to the theory that Zelda "is your... sister." The original, though, is "Protect Princess Zelda. You are, the princess's..." which leads more naturally into something like, "... final/only hope", or even more bluntly, "knight". And, the use of save is quite vague, whereas protect has stronger connotations with the specific duty of a knight.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, he decides it doesn't matter where or who he came from, the only self that matters is the one right now.
Tumblr media
In the Oracle of Seasons manga, Link is born with the triforce on his hand; his family knows he's destined for great things.
Tumblr media
And he does know, in this case, that he comes from a long line of knights. But he doesn't want to be one. He wants adventure, not glory. (Also fits the characterisation of Legend not wanting a leadership role.)
Tumblr media
Like, when Impa notices his hand -
Tumblr media
And actually, the only reason he ended up on an adventure is because his grandma convinced him to take the knights' trial in Castletown, where he was then transported to Holodrum.
Tumblr media
Maybe this advice stuck with him.
So we all know Zelda lore is a cobbled together mess, right. Link's Awakening came after A Link to the Past, so it was said that Link was on the boat in the first place travelling away from Hyrule to "continue his training" after defeating Agahnim in ALttP.
Then the Oracle games came out, and they (according to Hyrule Historia, at least) are set between the previous Hero of Legend games. By all accounts, it seems his Seasons and Ages journeys weren't all that voluntary; he didn't travel to Holodrum and Labrynna so much as he was magically sent there. And he was on his boat trying to sail back to Hyrule from those places when the events of Link's Awakening happened. Or... sailing to yet another new land to continue his training, if you read the Zelda Encyclopedia.
Everything, all over the place.
(This is to say nothing of Sir Raven's influence on Link actually wanting to become a knight in the Oracle of Ages manga.)
My point is, no matter how you want to interpret the Hero of Legend, I still think he meant it when he described himself as a "nobody". At the very least, he wants everyone (and himself) to believe he is. I also think there's interesting potential in the fact that he's mistrustful, disdainful of knights after having them turned against him, and maybe because of this he doesn't want to telegraph that he comes from a long line of them.

but 1) i Was gonna finish everything on akira first but then i rmbrd my farming drafts here and i WANNA DO THEM SO BAAAD....so..maybe ill do them first anyway..... 2) which makes me think of akira in farming sim au again cuz. im not sure if i have it on their verse page or not?!?! i dont think i do?!?! but its.......one of the few aus im leaning toward them not having met the wizards.....so they can be more closed-off and tired and just Not say half the stuff they say...making empty promises cuz they havent started to adopt cherishing their words more.....not to say akira who Has met the wizards is the Biggest Difference, but they Do more easily compliment ppl and Is calmer and Do have a certain. hrm. their words weigh more heavily? theyve always had a very kind and reliable aura, but after meeting the wizards they do feel more dependable.
where did my point go
uh i say all that but also the wizards means So much to akira both love-wise and development-wise that its also soooo hard to Not have akira knowing them........its like if gran didnt have lyria and vyrn. unfortunately vyrns rly hard to put into modern stuff, i WANT to make him a lizard like sincerely but how do u travel nonstop with a lizard?!?!??!? dog makes more sense...i think.............??? more than a lizard at least

how do the narutoverse characters all speak the same language? i get it if its in the same land / village, but another land / village ??? how do they understand eachother?? do they have the same universal language or do they all speak the same language?
... i'm definitely nit-picking now. if only i could learn to be a normal human being and stop having existential crises with these question~~~ ♫
Also technology is wack in Naruto, wdym you send messages thru letters but you guys have phones, emails and television??
Well... for a given understanding of what exactly is the "same language" and a forgiveness of regional dialects, varying literacy, and colloquialisms... Everyone speaks Japanese in Canon.
I don't know Japanese and I haven't watched/read the manga/anime so I couldn't say if the Japanese used is consistent across characters or anything. Also I'm not looking for anyone to kick down my ask box to info dump on this
In my fics, I lean into varying accents and local colloquialism in order to give a sense of varying regions, class, culture, etc etc. However, writing in English is very different from writing in Japanese because... well, I don't speak Japanese so I know the vibes of 'why' but I literally can't explain it.
Shisui speaks like a perfect Clan kid from the heart of Konoha; Raidou is from the same place but his voice is rounder, less polished, and he might have shared some "rougher" slang with his Squadmates since he's the only one who grew up in a working class civilian neighborhood.
Kisame has a different accent to Shisui (Kiri compared to Konoha) but they are totally fine with communicating because they've both had a high level of village-centred education that teaches them how to talk, how to speak, and how to blend in. Kisame has therefore been trained out of his rural dialect/accent (later on in this AU, some of you may notice that Zabuza has stubbornly held onto his).
When Shisui was undercover in Lightning's rural areas, he altered his accent and manner of speaking to better blend in.
The Crows speak in a way that is totally different to Humans. Shisui, as a fluent but obviously non-native speaker, uses much more basic language. There are noticable translation issues (no word for 'Hokage' so they use 'Hat', they never use Human Names, Akira isn't Akira's 'true name' but rather the Human equivalent used for functionality) which emphasises that the Crow language is completely distinct from the Human's.
Let's get back to Canon (🙃)
People can speak the "same language" and not be able to understand a word the other person is saying. I know a woman who's husband's family were from a different village and the in-laws could barely make small talk because they were so heavy on the slang, which absolutely did not translate to the other region's slang.
In Narutoverse, there's some stuff to consider off the top of my head
One, it's an anime, Kishi has too much timeline to forget and insane plot decisions to introduce to bother with linguistic nuance and do this idea justice so - as far as I'm aware - he didn't do language variation in canon.
Two, I think if Shinobi villages had their own languages, it would be something treated more like a hidden code than used casually, domestically, or be ritualistic in important events etc. I do think there'd be a shared 'higher' language at least, for treaties and Daimyos and shit, even if the rural farmers didn't know it even existed. And this means Shinobi would know it too.
Three, texting. Can the rural farmer own a cute little flip phone with a few attached charms? The world of translation would surely open up at least, although that doesn't mean dialects or different languages would disappear
Again, I'm not a linguist and i have no interest in being one!
The idea is cool tho
(every time I answer an ask, I tell myself it'll be shorter this time and yet...)

A Film Of Influence: Kurosawa's Seven Samurai
As mentioned in the previous blog post, Akira Kurosawa was an extremely influential filmmaker. Of his vast collection of masterpieces, one stands above them all in terms of overall influence and quality: Seven Samurai. It was only briefly described before, but here there’ll be a deeper dive into the film since there’s only so much a paragraph can say about a nearly three-and-a-half-hour-long movie.
youtube
This 1954 action-adventure samurai film revolves around a village of farmers being harassed by bandits, and in response they recruit a band of seven samurai to help defend themselves. Throughout the runtime, these samurai clash with not only the bandits, but each other, and themselves as they attempt to work together to help this community of farmers. Dense in rich, entertaining, philosophical, and hopeful storytelling, it’s truly a feast for the mind alongside the eye. With all of the layers of quality to it, there’s a clear reason as to why it was so influential to many other films to come after it.

When the west went to adapt this story of samurai, they substituted the katana-wielding and honor-bound warriors with the righteous cowboy. One of the earlier American remakes of the film was 1960’s The Magnificent Seven, but alongside this was a handful of other westerns such as the ones of Sergio Leone. Its story is so strong and withstands the holds of time that they made another remake of The Magnificent Seven in 2016, which would not only build upon the original namesake, but also continue to take from the original idea of Seven Samurai. In an LA Times article, the writer-director of the 2016 film cited the inspiring anti-cynicism found in Seven Samurai as one of the major appeals of the film, saying that, “People like the concept of honor; they like to root for underdogs,” Alongside that, another major appeal of the film is how well-crafted Kurosawa had made it.
In an essay by David Ehrenstein for Criterion, he describes the way that Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai was unlike many films of its kind. At a time where Japanese films were described by Kurosawa as “bland” and period films were typically slow-paced theatrics, he created his film in the style of a action-packed Hollywood epic. Moving at a breakneck pace at points, the film’s long runtime breezes by, even with its four-minute intermission. Assisting the film’s personality were the performances, as these historical characters carried a more contemporary feeling to their auras.

One actor of great respect who often collaborated with Kurosawa was Toshiro Mifune, who in this film plays a character of great depth and is bursting with personality. He screams, he cries, is foolish, and just goes to show the entire range of emotions he possibly can throughout the runtime. In the film, there’s a scene where the character Mifune plays, named Kikuchiyo, is handed a child by one of the peasant farmers as she dies. Holding the child in his arms, he collapses with a feeling of overwhelming grief and cries out, seeing himself in the child. It’s in a scene like this, where there’s deep, weighted emotion amidst the grandiose action, that the film’s longstanding power is shown.

Oh Lush, it's not the toy, it's the winning~
"Oh yeah? Maybe we can meet up with them at some point." Kei replied with a smile as they made it to the first booth.
Lush: mm, and we can finally see the baby~
Life had been busy and while lush had kept contact with sparks, he hadn’t actually gotten to see Akira yet.
The first booth is clearly farmer run. They’re selling frozen pies, all ready to be popped into the oven when you get home. They’re also selling cute cooling bags. Clever
