thank you so much for translating solving queen ophelia's mysterious death (plus your other projects ofc, you have impeccable taste)! it was a lovely read—so rare to find a complete short story with a satisfying ending nowadays.
already missing our literal ✨ queen ✨ and i surprisingly (unfortunately?? i think i have issues HAHA) grew to be rather fond of her dynamic with david adsfgh
if you happen to have any recommendations for other manga or novels or whatever (doesn't have to be similar to this, as long as it's good lmao), i'm all ears o7
anyway, thanks for your hard work! hope you're taking care of yourself and staying warm and all of that jazz. cheers!
thank you!!! i'm glad you enjoyed :o)
and LOL no you're so real for that… i also love david. like he's the worst but he and ophelia do kinda have mad chemistry with both their masks off. u kno. i liked when ophelia was like "lol wouldn't it be funny if he woke up next to my dead body tomorrow morning. lol"
as for recommendations… you're in luck because i keep a google spreadsheet of all the otome isekai i've ever read, ranked s tier through f tier and then ordered alphabetically within those rankings <3 this is normal <3
SO OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
holy grail of eris; what if you were possessed by the ghost of an infamous villainess and then you and that ghost teamed up to solve her murder. i think this would be most similar in tone to ophelia if that's what you're interested in! much longer story though.
the one within the villainess; a girl named emi wakes up in the body of the villainess remilia from a video game, but remilia is still trapped within and comes to love emi for her earnestness and desire to make people happy. when emi's efforts fail, remilia regains control of her body and vows revenge on everyone who hurt emi.
concubine walkthrough; a high school girl from korea gets trapped in the "body" of an npc villain, the empress, in a vr game called concubine walkthrough. SO GOOD, one of my faves in the genre
death is the only ending for the villainess (also known as villains are destined to die); another girl from korea finds herself trapped in the body of the villainess of an otome game she was playing, and now in order to avoid the bad end (death) she must make one of the love interests fall for her before the "real" protagonist arrives.
i stan the prince; a girl's fanfiction about the country's prince accidentally gets published and becomes a best-selling hit, improving the prince's reputation… so the prince and princess hire her to write a sequel in the hopes that it'll help them save his/ their family's reputation. sounds cringey but is actually so funny and charming.
surviving romance; a girl from korea wakes up in a romance novel :) but uh oh :) what's that :) the genre is not actually romance :)
fiance's observation log of a self-proclaimed villainess; much sillier but so good… otome isekai from the pov of the non-isekai'd crown prince LOL

there's a limit on how much you can be an isekai intellectual...
a bunch of analyses have been popping up before me all day so i wanted to throw my hat into the ring. all love to ppl who are exercising their creative minds + ppl like geoff here who just talk about these things because of fan interest but i feel like there reaches a point where exploring the "types" of isekai is pointless? i've seen ppl list out the different types of villainess revenge isekai or fantasy mmorpg isekai but eh why fit them all into separate boxes like that?
i think it's easier to think of isekai as a "type" (genre) of itself with only two categories: 1) a focus on isekai (lit. another world) 2) tensei (lit. to be reborn). this allows for a variety of applications and thus tropes that ppl see so many trends of!
with isekai - in another world
you see everything from:
pure fantasy (inuyasha, digimon wait maybe not the best example but in my childhood mind i count digimon as pure fantasy, fushigi yugi)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (.hack//legend of twilight, sao ugh, log horizon, overlord (LOVE OVERLORD!)
otome game-esque worlds >>> this is where it gets complicated with "villainess routes" since i admit there are multiple villainess tropes but this is why it's nice to not think of this as a "sub-type/genre" bc it frees you from those complications! (the saint's magic power is omnipotent, the white cat's revenge as plotted from the dragon king's lap soso cute!, the savior's book cafe in another world, i'm a villainous daughter so i'm going to keep the last boss wait i can't remember if she's reborn in this one lmaooo see this is why rules make everything hard)
with tensei storylines - being reincarnated/reborn in another world as *insert character/role*
you see...
the same tropes!!
pure fantasy (a returner's magic should be special, reminiscence adonis, the lady and the beast, light and shadow, i can't think of a manga off the top of my head for this ah)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (so i'm a spider so what i stan kumoko so hard, her majesty's swarm, can't name another off the top of my head ah i hate lists shorter than two things...)
self-insert based games/novels (fiance's observation log of a self-proclaimed villainess, who made me a princess, death is the only ending for the villainess, the villainess wants to marry a commoner, honestly games vs novels are different applications but i'm not in the headspace to try to remember a bunch of both lol)
*insert line break to give random ppl a break from scrolling but tl; dr just enjoy things for what they are no need to micro analyze*
similar variations occur in both genres (if ppl want to be super technical i guess i'm arguing that isekai itself is a massive genre that has the "another world" subgenre and "reincarnation" subgenre tl; dr) so i think it's honestly a huge pain to try to separate all these trends into so many different types of stories. for me personally it's easier to not get overwhelmed by this gigantic umbrella of "isekai" that spans light novels, manhwa, manga, and mobile games by just stripping each story down into its trademark tropes (aka character archetypes, story structures) and slapping "oh this is a person going to a world that's not ours" and "this person gets reborn as blank in another world". none of this "omg this power fantasy is such a this kind of isekai moment" or "there are 14 different types of villainess revenge stories and this series fits into this" bc AH labels! limitations! circle-jerks via ppl trying to compartmentalize everything and sound smart for leaving a comment on story analysis instead of ooh-ahhing over a character's face! dividing things into light novel manga vs manga vs korean manhwa ft. female characters!
the last bit is mainly why i feel frustrated by ppl's insistence to group everything?
the video linked at the beginning of the post (honestly good video essay, i enjoyed it, i just kept thinking in my head the whole time "marimo these are tropes do not take the genre talk literally") has a baby comment thread talking about "korean isekai manhwas" as a genre featuring nothing but reincarnated villainess' and i can't.
like i cannot acknowledge that as a genre of any sort. the energy i felt reading through some of those insights takes me back to 2012 when all yt americans discovered k-pop and deemed all korean music k-pop from then on! (ppl still do this now, yes you are seen and don't talk to me pls i don't like you. k-pop is korean pop music and nothing less and nothing more. take a few seconds and try to parse apart aspects of korean culture instead of slamming everything into a monolithic label that has the letter k and a hyphen.) it feels so odd to see a bunch of young ppl on ig and tiktok acknowledge korean media that happens to be in the form of a webtoon as "oh stories all about young girls becoming villains in stories they made/played" bc it feels so reductive u.u
(positionality disclaimer that i'm praying isn't actually necessary: i am a 3rd-generation korean of japanese descent do not fite me i am exhausted irl of ppl asking for validation/verification bc massive shove off.)
breaking news! korean manhwa...is just as multifaceted as japanese manga...bc how can comics as an art-form not have multiple genres...huh such a shocker?!?! same likely applies to media in other parts of the world like chinese manhwa and french comics--not my place to explain either of those i just know those industries exist bc of wakfu and donghua shows by Tencent.
at the end of the day it's not like analyzing any kind of isekai is wrong--absolutely not!! i think it can be super fun to think about how isekai elements complicate a story (MCs trying to go back home, ppl from the og world, reincarnation plot-twists) or maybe even bash a series for including some kind of other world element when they could have just written a super fun fantasy.
insert marimo's brief ramble that hey you can get sick of truck-kun's hitting disillusioned guys who happen to be super duper smart or girls who happen to be master chefs/craftsmen but transporting a fully-grown being into a fantasy setting is the ultimate cheat code for making mundane modern technology seem cool and overpowered, and being reincarnated as a fully grown person in a world with a pre-made story/game set-up completely bypasses the need for an author to slowly flesh out world-building in a natural progression so isekai is actually a really smart writing tool it's just that there are some series where the author didn't use it well at all and it's cheesy or clearly isekai was misused as a vehicle for character/story development and it was pointless *DEEP BREATH OUT*
in this essay i will argue...lol i am such a culture studies major!! if i were an english major i would be talking all about writing but here i am having a side-tangent about world-building via someone being reborn wow i love this for me (don't get me started on when an author has someone reincarnate as a baby and the story is mostly them having warm fluffy moments with their family--typically father figures--and getting lots of powers i could and would and probably will rant about east asian toxicity)
but anyway am i crazy????? like yes for being passionate about the technical use of a word like genre (i am a scorpio rising let me be fussy pls) but i don't think it's a lot to ask for ppl to not unironically see "villainess revenge isekai" as the definition of korean manhwa.
idk as someone who resonates with why japanese isekai is so popular domestically + why a lot of korean manhwa feat. the same tropes (it's not for great reasons lads it's actually depressing tbh) i'm just starting to feel kind of pained by the generalization and need to separate "cute japanese girl in an otome game"/"japanese boy finds a harem in another world" from "korean girl dies and comes back as a villainess" bc they are just! applications to the same story device!!
recommendations for any who makes it this far down below <3
// also gladly recommend any of the examples i've listed in the above rant as i've read/watched all of them and adore them v much! //
save me princess
super refreshing fantasy manhwa ft. a princess and her ex-boyfriend having to save the world!
the beginning after the end
an AMERICAN web novel turned into a comic (but see it being not korean/japanese doesn't really matter when you just consider isekai as a genre...isn't it nice to not overthink it?) ft. a super-powerful wizard king reincarnated into another world and starting from scratch--gives mushoku tensei vibes but huge twists!
the reason why raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion
love love LOVE this story--read the title and you'll learn how this girl reincarnated as the character raeliana in a book gets married to a duke!
trash of the count's family
such a good novel!! a guy gets reborn as a lazy oaf and he takes the hero of the story under his wing...plot twists come up later on!
this time i will definitely be happy!
v good and refreshing for a shorter series! she's been reborn 3 times and remembers every time the hero's stabbed her in the back, and now she just wants to break up with him!
silver diamond
older manga but v good adventure w intrigue! a boy who loves plants get sucked into a desert world with demonic lizards and a mysterious bodyguard by his side. shonen-ai not BL but wonderful vibes nonetheless + great side characters!
the princess imprints a traitor
adore everything in this from the world (not in that way this society makes me so angry) to the machinations at play and the dynamic between the fl and ml

Twisted Wonderland MC/Yuu Story Ideas/Challenges Part 3
This will be a bit different seeing as I’m really excited for this one!!!
________________________________________________________________
Villainess!MC Yuu was reincarnated as a Villainess of an otome game they used to play in their previous life.
- Yuu admires Villainesses and Villains A LOT
- Yuu knows Disney and is very proud of attending a Villain inspired School
- Yuu is a genius and learns supernaturally fast
- Yuu is a hard working genius
- Yuu can use a sword and other weapons
- Yuu can use magic (darkness magic is her main element)
- Yuu tries really hard to be the perfect Villainess
- Yuu can read books really fast (like 10 books an hour)
- Yuu practices ‘evil’ expressions and biting insults in front of the mirror (this is how she meets Micky)
- Yuu tries to play off all her hard work to come off as a flawless Villainess (it’s not fooling anyone)
- Yuu has a guide book she is creating on being the best villainess/villain one can be that she carries around with her everywhere, always adding to it
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Villainess!Yuu when she and Grim meets Ace:
Ace: Yeah Unlike a certain Raccoon
Yuu: *I knew this guy is obviously one of the good guys by just looking at him! He could obviously tell that me and my Trade Marketed evil cat/familiar (Grim) are obviously Villains and is confronting us! Now how do I react do I react?*
-before Grim can do anything-
Yuu: Ufufufufu~ How cute
Grim and Ace: EHH!?
Yuu: -pulls a fan out of nowhere and covers the lower half of her face elegantly- Did you really think that my familiar and I would fall for such a pathetic attempt to rile us up? Do you really think us that simple minded?
-Grim looks away not even noticing Yuu claimed him as her familiar again-
Yuu: Hmph! -Yuu looks at Ace like one would look at scum on ones shoe- Unlike mongrels with nothing better to do WE have a class to get too. Let us take our leave Grim.
-Yuu swiftly closes her fan placing it back from where it came as she practically glides away with Grim on her shoulder not looking back at the shocked Ace-
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
- Yuu is kind of oblivious
- Yuu switches personalities from her real one to her Villainess mode (she means to be a villainess 24/7 but she slips a lot)
- Yuu claims Grim as a familiar from the beginning (every Villain needs a cat)
- Yuu is the one who stops Grim from burning the school down by knocking him out (this just cements the idea that Grim will be a perfect familiar for an up and coming Villainess)
- Yuu still lives in Ramshackle with Grim though
-Yuu was ready to be an amazing Villainess that gets in the way of the Heroine
-Yuu was instead sent to yet another world
- Yuu gets along really well with Malleus (she amuses him greatly) ~she amuses everyone really~
- Yuu looks up to all the Dorm heads except Kalim and Jamil instead because they embody the greatest Disney Villains of all time (not that she hates Kalim she quite likes him as one would like a small cute animal)
-Yuu believes that Kami saw how great of a Villainess she was and sent her another world because they knew the Heroes would never win against her! This is just another trial on her road to becoming the greatest Villainess! Now if she could only find her sworn rival!!! Wait what do you mean this is an all boys school and she’s the only female here!? Hey! Isn’t this a plot for a shoujo manga!?!? But-but she’s a Villainess how come she’s doing things a Hero would do? Curse her soft heart!
________________________________________________________________
I was rereading some Villainess stories and this idea hit me
I really hope someone decides to write this!

Usually i not really like yandere characters, but some catch my interested. Not all are crazy, or just plain evil, some guy have some very much dignity and they NEVER be able to hurt his love, but kill anyone else, whom try to hurt them. WITHOUT any mercy. Here my top 3
3. Ursch Schneiver from the villainess want to marry a commoner
Yeah, he is young, but his family "ability" to keep and find a one and only treasure. In his part, a wife. He attached to Isabella and seem he really love with her (despite both of then just only SIX years old) and overall a normal cute boy, but he had tendencies. so when he got older... who knows :3
Tumblr media
2. Prince Cecil from fiance observation log of the self-proclaimed villainess
He is typical sweet faced, honey tongued prince, but reality he is a bored yandere whom at first start to like his bride out of boredom, but later he fell on love with her. And we all know what that means to anyone who stand against their relationship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1.Noah Wyknight from The Reason why Raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion
The most open yandere. When he realised his love for Raeliana his overprotective tendencies became so strong he want to get rid of the heroine (whom his "destined" S/O) and he eveb plan to kill anyone whom want to hurt Raeliana. And he not care about unnesecary things such as noble family or political view. He kill them all :3

List of Reincarnated into the Villainess of an Otome/Romance Novel Series I Like
Soooooo I’ve gotten sucked into the very specific isekai subgenre?trope? Of girl gets reincarnated into an otome game or romance novel she loves but is the villainess. It’s kind funny how similar these all are but at the same time so different. Now these arent all the titles just the ones I’ve read for at least a volume and like. (if asked i might make a list of the ones that failed for me). I’m gonna separate by types. and if you know of any other titles please do tell me.
Received Past Memories during Childhood
(The story starts with the MC remembering her past life as a child and growing up with the knowledge)
I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags...
Tumblr media
So this one has a good deal of traction since it has an anime adaption currently running, but I’ll be honest it’s not one of favs. This series is primarily a harem comedy and most of the jokes deal with the MC’s expectations from the game not matching her new reality and not realizing why, which can be very fun, if one note. The characters are likeable which is why I keep reading but I think some other titles on this list use the concept far better.  There is also a spin off version where the MC doesnt get her old memories until later in life and has to deal with the actions of the game character, but it’s fairly the same you arent missing much if you dont read it.
The Villainess Want to Marry a Commoner
Tumblr media
So in this one the MC isn’t trying to avoid a bad end rather she’s very excited to be able to romance her favorite NPC whom she wished was romance-able. (which honestly mood) I’m not very far in but it really takes the whole this is a game the furthest as there are stat checks and the MC basically carried over all the items and skills acquired in her past playthroughs.
Survive as the Hero’s Wife
Tumblr media
A web series, this one takes place in a book and the main pair are married as children and the MC plays double agent for the series antagonist to keep her and the LI safe. It’s fairly involved with a larger cast of characters but I’ll be honest this is one of the titles I feel would be stronger if it was just a straight fantasy series, the whole Isekai aspect feels like it’s there just to make the plot move quicker. But all around a good read.
Fiancée’s Observation Log of the Self-proclaimed Villainess
Tumblr media
Now this one has a fun twist on the formula in that it’s told from the perspective of the love interest. Some of the faults other titles are plague with are avoided here as the main character himself has no knowledge of the world being a game, his fiance does but while she’s happy to tell him she’ll be a great villainess and get him a happy ending with the heroine she never tells him why thats so important so he’s left in the dark and thereby so are we. I will give a warning there is  bit of fat shaming in this as the original games villainous was chubby  but this version is skinny, like its not awful but its not the best implication that bad is chubby and good is skinny.
The Evil Lady's Hero
Tumblr media
Another webseries set in a novel while we dont see the MC in childhood (save for some flashbacks) it’s stated she’s had her old memories since then. What I really like about this series is the MC’s personality and set up. So she died well into her 20s  and as such she is a bit more mature and levelheaded than most MC’s, her plan was to avoid the main cast of the books as much as possible but ends up drunkenly sleeping with the male lead leading to them dating. Her thought being I’ll just enjoy this for now and let him break up with me when he meets the heroine, all good. The pair play well off each other and I’m curious to see where the story goes.
The Result of Being Reincarnated is Having a Master-Servant Relationship with the Yandere Love Interest
Tumblr media
Now this one has a lot of fun with this concept as there are two other characters who were reincarnated like the MC. Because this game had only yandere love interests even the “good” endings arent that good, the MC also has limited knowledge as she didnt get to play all the way through so she feels less omnipotent than other protagonists, and along with not being the only person displaced it gives the series a nice refreshing feel.
Received Past Memories as Young Adult (The story starts with the MC remembering her past life after/during the events of the game/book)
I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m going to keep the Last Boss
Tumblr media
So I actually really love this series and wanna read the light novel version. The MC regains her memories during the beginning of the bad end for the villainess and thinking quickly saves face to run off and find the main antagonist of the  game the demon king who happens to be a secret route on the second play through. Its a very fun read but gets a little dark in later chapters I wont spoil cause its good but there is an attempted rape scene.
Simply Good Sense for a Duke’s Daughter
Tumblr media
This one kills me cause the world building and characters are so strong and dense it’s actually weakened by the fact that the MC was reincarnated is really just kinda brushed off most the time. As you get more and more invested the only real purpose her being reincarnated into an otome has is like some ideas for products to sell and how to make things that dont exist in this world yet. Like I wont say I don’t enjoy it but I think I’d enjoy it more if it was just a fantasy story.
Beware the Villainess
Tumblr media
God I love this webseries. The MC is just a delight as she decides she wont be evil but she wont be good either. What I like about this series is it kinda plays with the fact that the setting is a trashy romance novel cause as the MC learns more about the main characters of the novel she finds that the descriptions in the book dont match up because it’s very surface level. Example a merchant whos said to be very smart and savvy in the books is actually rather easy to outsmart, MC realizes it’s cause the writer only ever wrote he was smart never HOW he was smart. I would def give this one a read its a lot of fun.
For Certain Reasons, The Villainess Noble Lady Will Live Her Post-Engagement Annulment Life Freely
Tumblr media
This is again another series I think would be stronger if it was straight fantasy. The MC of this story actually has no idea the world is an otome game, she was  nurse in her past life and uses that knowledge for the betterment of the land, (though actually its hard to tell if she was really reincarnated or just has the memories of this person) The story could have moved just as well if the MC was given like a medical textbook from a mysterious other world. But the characters are fun so its not awful just not one of my favorites.
Reincarnated but not as Villainess
I Am Troubled That My Fiance Is a Villain
Tumblr media
The MC is reincarnated into an otome game with her memories as a child but as a side character, she ends up endearing herself and becoming engaged to the games villain character. Its very cute because she doesnt have to worry about a bad end she doesnt try to interfere much just keep those around her safe.
Seduce The Villain's Father
Tumblr media
Web series MC gets reincarnated into a novel as a minor character, as the story takes place prior to the events of the book she changes things to keep her new sister safe and uses the opportunity to try and avoid more tragic events. Its not bad I’d say the idea itself is interesting though its a little uncomfortable she calls the male lead “father”
A Villain Is A Good Match For A Tyrant
Tumblr media
Ok so this web series is kinda hilarious and I do have to spoil a little cause the person reincarnated is NOT our lead, its our villain. So this person was actually the author of the story, she had written a novel about a girl being reincarnated into the bastard daughter of a lord who gets engaged to a tyrant and has to pretend to be evil to stay safe from his enemies, and the author is so PISSED she reincarnated into a random priestess. Its so weirdly meta. The MC is the lord’s bastards and the events play out just like story only she doesnt get her body taken over. This series is very fun, cant wait to see how it goes.
Anyway this is my list if you have suggestions for me I’ll check them out. Will probably make another list later.

Fiancee’s observation log of the Self-proclaimed villainess
Tumblr media
Title: Fiancee’s observation log of the Self-proclaimed villainess
Media: Manga (but based on a light novel) Writer: Shiki. Artist: Natsume Hasumi
Yandere(s): Cecil
Yandere Scale: 0/5
Criticism written by: Kai
Editor: Julie
The Review:
Hey everyone! It’s Kai and I’m back with another yandere review. Now, I’m reviewing a manga that I honestly don’t think needed a yandere review but after seeing a post floating around in the yandere community about this story, I thought it was my moral obligation  to step up and dispel the misconception going on here. As fellow yandere lovers, we are stuck in a continuous battle against clickbait yanderes. First the clickbaits invaded youtube and now they’re attacking our lovely community… Onto the review!
Fiancee’s observation log of the Self-proclaimed villainess (*takes a deep breath* what’s with Japan and their long as fuck titles?) is a story about a girl named Bertia, who swears to be the best villainess possible so that her fiance, Cecil, can have a happy ending with the “heroine”. If it isn’t obvious, this is yet another isekai manga where Bertia was a normal high school girl in her past life and was reincarnated as the villainess of an otome game she used to play. Of course, as per the weird female protagonists that Japan likes to put out, Bertia has some dumb logic. Instead of… you know, trying to avoid her destruction flags, she’s charging straight at them in hopes that this would lead to Cecil’s happy ending… because Cecil was her favorite character in her past life. But thank Bertia’s lucky stars that Cecil isn’t stupid like her; he helps her narrowly avoid bad ends left and right. I’ll take this moment to also say that the point of view is actually from Cecil’s view as we watch him try to handle Bertia’s blunters and her blurting out future predictions about the world. And as every cliched male lead’s reasoning, Cecil is only interested in Bertia because “lol, she’s different and weird.” The manga is still being translated but we do have hints that the “heroine” might actually be a bad guy and Cecil might have… GASPS… feelings for Bertia.
Once again, don’t know why that post of Cecil being a “Yandere?!?!?!#12y8” is floating around. He isn’t. There’s nothing about his actions that would point or suggest that he could possibly be a yandere besides his “creepy” expressions for that one panel. He’s more of an oresama type more than anything. He very much likes teasing Bertia and toying with her. The reason why he protects her is the same as why you would protect your only source of entertainment. Bertia is his toy (for now) and that feeling slowly shifts to a more parental/doting affection. Even Julie, who read the light novel version, stated that Cecil is at most a helicopter parent for Bertia. Let’s talk about this panel:
Tumblr media
Remember that panel? That’s the picture floating around. Let me give some context for it. Prior to this scene, Bertia was hanging out and playing along with this corrupt politician in hopes that this politician would corrupt her father into becoming the “evil duke”. But as it turns out, that politician is actually a pedophile, which Cecil reveals to Bertia after scolding her for associating for those kinds of people. That’s when Bertia broke down in horror and Cecil comforted her… hence that panel. On one hand, the reason why Cecil is saying that is because someone messed with his toy (because he’s an oresama, remember?). On the other hand, that person is a PEDOPHILE. I think anyone would be pissed if they found out a pedophile was trying to groom a child… what more a child you know personally? You don’t need to be a yandere in order to get revenge against that sort of person. This scene is in the realm of normal. Hell, in the end, Cecil didn’t even do anything to the politician. He just used it as a sort of “cash grab” in tricking Bertia’s father in getting along with that corrupt politician as a spy so that they can weed out the corruption in the government. So much for revenge, huh?
Now, do I think Cecil can never be a yandere? No… there is a possibility that Cecil could be a yandere in future chapters. It’s most certain not the first time for these light novels to insert a yandere way later in the story (I’m looking at you, In another world, I’m called the Black Healer. I’m going to review that manga later but god damn it with the sudden yandere toss in). This is not a case of “if there’s smoke, there’s fire.” There is no smoke, there is no fire, and Cecil is no a yandere. I don’t even see him becoming a yandere anyways! At most a blackbelly.
Does this review mean that Fiancee’s observation log of the Self-proclaimed villainess is a bad manga? No. Of course not. Fiance’s observation is a pretty good manga and somewhat humorous. The art is pretty decent and the story is surprisingly engaging. I highly recommend it as a good read but don’t start reading it because you want a yandere… because you’ll be sorely disappointed.
(Post edit: Julie here, I’ve read this story as a light novel and...it wasn’t really memorable. If it was, I would’ve definitely recalled the “yandere”.  But in all honestly with the protagonist getting into all sorts of trouble due to her “weird/quirky” personality, Cecil felt more like her caretaker then a yandere. It’s like he’s her babysitter or something and I sort of got the impression that he thinks she’s like a court jester; funny, but you don’t really take them seriously).
Overall Score: 5/10

No, there is no need to apologize, you're not akward at all, trust me! Welp being a long time weeb, I would read a lot of manga but if we're talking Villainess- specific there is the more popular Hametsu no Flag, Who made me a princess, Palimony, Accomplishments of a duke's daughter, Beware of the villainess, I became the vilainess so I'm keeping the last boss, A self proclaimed vilainess' fiance observation log? (sth along those lines), the vilainess reverses the hourglass etc. How about you?
Not gonna lie this has been in my inbox for what a year?
Idk what happened- Actually that's not true I probably thought up a response said I was going to type it later. Then my brain went yeah you totally responded because you said x y and z. So I am completely sorry for ghosting you like that mid conversation.
Not sure if it matters anymore but for me it is
Who made me a Princess (which has cemented it's self as an all time favorite)
Kill the Villainess (this is heart wrenching for me not gonna lie)
Today the Villainess has fun again (I too have fun with this one)
The Villainess reverses the hourglass (I kinda fell off of this one tho)
The Villainess flips the script (Right off the bat this one is freaking fantastic. Lucas is beautiful adorable and deserves all the happiness. The FL is beautiful smart strong lovable as all hell her dynamic with the ML is *chef's kisses*. I'm also torn between thinking that the ML is a freaking himbo or he knows what he's doing and is playing dumb either way freaking love him. I just really fell in love with this one)
The Villainess is a Marionette (idk how I feel about this one got to wait around and see how things go)
It was all a mistake (is this one a villainess one ? I honestly don't remember if she was suppose to be seen as a villainess in the og storyline. I also like this one but haven't read it in a bit so again idk if this even counts as a Villainess one)
I'm not expecting you to respond so don't feel obligated to if you don't feel like it I won't feel bad. I'm the one who messed up and responded almost over a year later so no hard feelings again if you choose not to respond to this.
And I am sorry once again for ghosting you mid conversation

Oh! I recommend Fiancee's observation log of a self-proclaimed villainess! it's a villainess manga told from the point of view of the fl's fiance the prince, who's one of the games capture targets. the fl straight up told the prince she was reincarnated the first time they met XD
I know that one. It was suggested on oi server too. from what people told me, it is among the best ones and has the things I want

I haven’t seen other isekai villainess series yet, I didn’t even realize it was popular until after getting into my next life, so if you have recommendations, I’d love to try out more!
HameFura was my first Isekai villainess ever! Coincidentally, I'm also a fan of reverse harem so the series really excites me! I don't think there are other animes for isekai villainess (in fact, I think HameFura is the first of its genre to have an anime adaptation. I wish they'd adapt more in the future though) but as you'd probably guess, there are a lot of Light Novels featuring that genre! There are also many manga adaptations of them! Some of the popular and the ones that I'm currently reading are these, though i must tell you that some of these recs are just isekai in general/reborn/reincarnated/transferred to isekai. So these are a variation of isekai genre rather than just a "reincarnated as isekai/otome game villainess" (ho boi,,,, this is a long ass one forgive me)
The Villainess' Slow Prison Life Began With Her Broken Engagement (completed, pretty short but there are the continuation in the LN, which I'll def check in the future!)
Middle-Aged Man's Noble Daughter Reincarnation (haven't read it yet, but it seemed interesting, so I'll just add this too!)
The Vengeful White Cat Lounging On The Dragon King's Lap (this is a transferred into isekai but i thought it's pretty cute! Ongoing)
The Mage With Special Circumstances Wants To Live Peacefully (MC originally lives in the this fantasy world, so i wouldn't say this is an isekai, but it's cute and interesting, so i totally recommend it! Ongoing)
Since I Became A Saint, I'll Do Whatever I Want With My Second Life ~The Prince Was My Lover Who Threw Me Away In My Previous Life~ (reborn in the same world, really interesting and I love the MC. Ongoing)
I'm Thinking Of Quitting The Villainess' Entourage (This is cute 🥺🥺 still ongoing though)
This Time I Will Definitely Be Happy! (I LOVE THIS SO FREAKING MUCH IT'S REALLY INTERESTING AND THE MC IS JUST 👌👌👌 Completed 😢)
Tensei Saki Ga Shoujo Manga No Shiro Buta Reijou Datta (similar to HameFura where the villainess recovers her memories and changed for the greater good, but the setting for this one is shoujo manga rather than otome game. I think the MC is really cute and love how hardworking she is. Ongoing)
I’M A Villainous Daughter, So I’M Going To Keep The Last Boss (WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO END SMH 😢 Like, I love LOVE this manga so freaking much! Totally recommend it 10/10! Just a heads up, original otome game heroine who's kind like HameFura Maria in isekai manga/LN is considered rare. Original otome game heroine like this manga are considered to be more common. So,,, prepare yourself 💀)
Mahoutsukai No Konyakusha (the world the MC is reincarnated in doesn't have any relation to something from her past life, so this is a general fantasy setting. BUT IT'S CUTE SO WHATEVER 🤗 I believe this one is completed 🤔)
For Certain Reasons, The Villainess Noble Lady Will Live Her Post-Engagement Annulment Life Freely (interesting MC, story has main subject, which is medical stuff cause mc was a nurse in her past life, ongoing)
Of Course, I'll Claim Palimony! (This is just so interesting, and i love how straightforward the MC is, not a reincarnated MC or anything, she is originally from the world :) ongoing)
I Was Reincarnated, And Now I'm A Maid! (Reincarnated as the villainess maid instead! This is pretty heartwarming but there aren't many chapters currently, still ongoing)
Endo And Kobayashi’S Live Commentary On The Villainess (This is just so amazing and interesting! Not reborn/reincarnated, but instead, the ones from the normal world is playing the game and gave commentary on the game, one of the character (the prince) can hear them, even though he's in the game. Ongoing)
Milady Just Wants To Relax (reincarnated in a novel world as the villainess! Tells the story of the after life of MC opening up a cafe after she was exiled. So fluffy and the Love interests are beastmen)
Fiancée’S Observation Log Of The Self-Proclaimed Villainess (One of the most popular isekai manga after HameFura! Instead of the female MC's point of view, this is told in the villainess' (aka MC's) fiance's point of view! Also, the villainess in this one wants to confront her bad end rather than avoid it like in HameFura 😂 and she's as dumb as Katarina so 😔😔👌👌👌 ongoing)
When I Woke Up, Twenty Years Passed! ~The Villainous Daughter’S Afterlife~ (cute as shit and hot male LI 😌😌😌 ongoing)
Seijo No Maryoku Wa Bannou Desu (this one is transferred into isekai, i stan the MC so much, she was treated like shit at first, but it gets better dw,,, and the lead male is just so 😍😍😍)
The Villainess Want To Marry A Commoner (this is honestly just so cute and relatable! The reincarnated MC loves one of the supporting cast rather than the main LI in the otome game, so she gets engaged with him and decides to stay away from the heroine and the LI, ongoing)
The Result Of Being Reincarnated Is Having A Master-Servant Relationship With The Yandere Love Interest (reincarnated into yandere otome game! Male lead is a lowkey yandere for his master aka the villainess (MC), ongoing.)
Isekai De "kuro No Iyashi Te" Tte Yobarete Imasu (similar to seijo no maryoku, but still quite different! This is enjoyable too! Completed)
Inso's Law (the only manhwa I'll list here. I just love the relationship the MC and all the LI and original heroine. This one is set in a world of romance novel, but not one that the MC already read or knew. The MC just knew she got transferred and is forced to live in a romance novel world because of how all the laws that applied to a common romance novel is shown when she was living her life there. She was assumed to be the heroine's (normal looking) best friend. Ongoing)
The Banished Villainess! Living The Leisurely Life Of A Nun Making Revolutionary Church Food (ONE OF MY FAV! This is just so cute! (Heads up, shit may or may not go down 👀) but this is still the cutest shit ever, male lead is a scary looking guy that's actually really soft and dense and he loves the villainess (MC) but again, MC is too dumb to realize that 😔 BUT IT'S CUTE SO IT'S ALRIGHT! Ongoing)
May I Ask For One Final Thing? (BADASS MC! YES!! MC is originally from the world and she kicks ass at the people who wronged her, ongoing)
The Villainess Is Adored By The Crown Prince Of The Neighboring Kingdom (again, one of the most popular isekai villaines after HameFura. And again, the original otome game heroine is the exact opposite of Maria, so prepare yourself! This thing is cute as heck! It shows how the Villainess (MC) was treated like shit by one of the male lead (a prince)but then a hotter guy (the neighboring prince) came and proposed to her,, lmao serves the prince right, ongoing)
Isekai De Mofumofu Nadenade Suru Tame Ni Ganbattemasu. (Reincarnated to a fantasy setting world, and the smol MC is adored by all animals, SUPER FLUFFY, just like the title)
I Swear I Won't Bother You Again! (Reborn again in the same world,MC decided to stay away from the Heroine and won't bully her.....which backfired horribly 😜ongoing)
Marielle Clarac's Engagement (MC originally from the world, just shows the life of her as a romance novel writer in the noble world. This one is super cute too, ongoing)
I’M Not A Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn’T Mean I’M A Bad Person! (Set in shoujo manga world, and the MC was a misunderstood girl 😢😢😢😢 i love her sm 😔 ongoing)
The Reborn Witch Foretells Destruction (reborn to a fantasy world, and the artstyle is my personal fav! I just love the relationship the MC has with the love interests)
I Am Troubled That My Fiance Is A Villain (just sum cute shit, MC born as a side character, but somehow caught the attention of the otome game Villain and was proposed by him. Also the original otome game heroine is....i think you already get it by now)
The Villainess Will Crush Her Destruction End Through Modern Firepower (BIG BAD BITCH ENERGYYYYYY even though she's a freaking loli, lol remind me of Youjo Senki...villainess MC was reincarnated to an otome game and one interesting trait of her from past life, she loves guns and revolver,,, and all those stuff, ongoing)
It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into The World Of A Yandere Otome Game (again, yandere otome game, but the yandere flags are all taken down, so it's safe, (still have some of those yandere tendencies tho) ongoing)
Fake Cinderella (just a patisserie reincarnated to a fantasy world, and she was engaged to a prince that is really fond of her (i say fond because their age gap is a little....questionable) ongoing)
Koushaku Reijou No Tashinami (i barely understand what's going on half of the time but i love the romance the MC villainess has with her LI. (And the LI isn't one of the capture targets from the og otome game) focuses on the subject of politic so.....RIP. but i still love the romance 🥳)
Lady Rose Wants To Be A Commoner (I 👏 LOVE 👏 THIS 👏 It's just freaking amazing and cute! MC is reincarnated as the otome game heroine, but she lets the event flowed to her bad ending, so she got to be exiled and live her life as a commoner. Interesting MC and amazing artstyle! Ongoing)
I Reincarnated Into An Otome Game As A Villainess With Only Destruction Flags... In A Dire Situation!? Verge Of Destruction Arc (HameFura spinoff! This one is set in the world where Katarina is already bullying Maria because her past life memories came like, 5/7(?) years after the incident with the scar with the prince unlike in the OG. I actually just need more HameFura content so,,, 🥺😔👉👈 Katarina's still the same ol dumb so dw,,,also more side characters are introduced! Ongoing)
The Villainess, Cecilia Silvie, Doesn't Want To Die, So She Decided To Cross-Dress! (Haven't read it yet, but i LOVE the genderbend idea!)
The Earl's Daughter Was Suddenly Employed As The Crown Prince's Fiancée (MC is already originally living in fantasy setting world, and her interactions with the crown prince is just so freaking cute i can't,,, ongoing....i think?)
The Daughter Of The Albert House Wishes For Ruin (This is so much fun to read! Same as fiancee observation log, the villainess MC wishes to confront her dead end for some reason, ongoing i think?)
AND THAT'S ALL I CAN GIVE! This post is long as heck, and i haven't even talk about ALL of them, plus there's also the manhwa. 😂😂😂 but i hope you'll like these!

If you like isekai or reincarnation manga, I have some recommendations for you. I will only list ones that aren't harem (that I remember). Those get boring after a while, but I still read them.
Mahoutsukai no Konyakusha.
This Girl is a Little Wild.
Soushikikan to Watashi no Jijou.
A Witch's Printing Office.
For certain reasons, the villainess Noble Lady Will Live Her Post-Engagement Annulment Life Freely.
Fiancee be Chosen by the ring.
The Duchess of the Attic.
Survive as the Hero's Wife.
From Maid to Mother.
Tensei Kenja no Isekai Raifu ~Daini no Shokugyo wo Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita~
A Mild Noble's Vacation Suggestion. (I'm crying because I wish it was romance, but we can't have everything in life and that sucks 😢 )
I am Troubled That my Fiance Is a Villain.
I was told to relinquish my fiance to my little sister, and the great dragon took a liking to me and unbelievably took over the kingdom.
God Bless You.
Sengoku Komachi Kuroutan: Noukou Giga.
Fiancée's Observation log of the Self-proclaimed Villainess.
Seduce the Villain's Father.
Living As the Tyrant's Older Sister.
Beware The Villainess!
The Stereotypical Life of a Reincarnated Lady.
I became the villain's mother.
Cheating men must die.
The Villain's Savior.
I became the hero's mom.
The Savior's book cafe in another world.
Trash of the Count's Family. (I'm crying over this one too, bruh give him love 😭)
The Villainess Lives Twice.
I took the male leads first time.
I began a new game.
( i will not list any more, the list is too long)
Some of them, I haven't gotten far but they don't seem like it's harem. I wish there were more stories where the mc would out right deny or make clear their feelings. It pains me with all the girl girl girl girl girl or boy boy boy boy boy can't it have a small set of characters that don't have to fall in love? Loving someone and being in love are two different things after all.

Been on a Villainess* kick, have some of my favorites (*not all are villainess but most are)(mostly manga not webtoons, sorry if that's a deal breaker)(wow, there was more than I was expecting, feel free to ignore!)
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!- if you're a fan of the genre you've probably already read/watched it but! I'll rec it anyway just in case
The Result Of Being Reincarnated Is Having A Master-Servant Relationship With The Yandere Love Interest- or that one where almost everybody is reincarnated and trying to stop the bad ends
The Villainess, Cecilia Silvie, Doesn't Want To Die, So She Decided To Cross-Dress!- er, exactly what it says on the tin
Fiancée’s Observation Log Of The Self-Proclaimed Villainess- good mostly outsider pov
Endo And Kobayashi’s Live Commentary On The Villainess- if you could change the story of a game (as the player), would you?
I Am Troubled That My Fiance Is A Villain- accidentally getting involved
The Reincarnated Villainess' Dark History- reincarnated in your middle school fanfic
The Villainess Is Adored By The Crown Prince Of The Neighboring Kingdom- very shoujo
Tearmoon Empire Story- no isekai, just trying not to die
Fiancee Be Chosen By The Ring- no isekai or reincarnation, just dorks in a panicked arranged engagement
I'm The Prince’s Consort Candidate However, I Believe I Can Certainly Surpass It!- magic arranged engagement
Middle-Aged Man's Noble Daughter Reincarnation- yes, if nothing else, read this comedy
OHH, I’ve read most of them actually!!! Y’all underestimate how much me and the guys in my server just INHALE these things.
We go at them carefully, cuz some of them tend to be a bit...YEAH.
There’s one where our MC ended up with black hair and dark skin (which isn’t really dark, she’s got a light olive tone at best in the cover art) because she can control darkness that made a LOT of people wary of her, when really, she’s just a nice kid... BUT UHHH, the implications about THAT.
And not helping, is that in the comments, there were some spoilers from the novel, that later on, she loses her dark skin, like...wtf?????? EVEN WORSE, THE WAY SHE’S TREATED IS CHANGED IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE OF IT (they treat her BETTER).
I just dropped it after that, I’m not even gonna bother with stuff like that. Idk what’s going on there, but I literally cannot deal with that shit cuz of the implications. (it’s called  I'm Not a Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn't Mean I'm a Bad Person!)
(literally the premise is so damaging, and like, I’m nowhere near pale, but I’m still on the lighter end of brown, so seeing that is just...it’s gross)
ANYWAYS, the Old man reincarnated as the villainess is AMAZING. Literally all started when the Zoids Mangaka was posting stuff on twitter about what HE wanted to see from an isekai like that.
I followed it pre serialization, and am currently following it now that it’s been serialized. Literally, old man KEEPS FUCKING RAISING FLAGS. BECAUSE HE’S BAD AT BEING MEAN. He’s just...A DAD. But also, really nice.
The Fiance’s Observation Log is also good!! Was following it when the LN was getting translated, and then immediately jumped to the manga adaptation when I saw it existed.
Same goes with our girl, Katarina in Destruction Flag Otome. And a lot of these, really. Eheheh, when I came across Destruction Flag Otome, I went on a BINGE on novel updates under the villainess tag.
Read the Yandere one, and I have another one to suggest, It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into the World of a Yandere Otome Game. Lycoris is our girl, and she’s doing her best to avoid getting killed, but like...ehehhee, the yanderes are still THERE, despite her meddling. It’s just that it turned into a softer yan, where everyone is just protective of her. It has some elements of horror and psychological stuff here, which is what makes it so interesting.
There’s May I Please Ask You Just One Last Thing? if you want some catharsis since our MC will beat the shit out of those who piss her off. The downside is that the guy interested in her is...really pissing me off, since he only likes her because everyone else bores him like. No. Just no. That’s not romantic.
If you want to use a premise like that, Fiance’s Observation Log does it better because it started off with him being a CHILD, and doing things cuz it was interesting...AND THEN HE GOT ATTACHED because of it.
The Daughter of the Albert House Wishes for Ruin is AMAZING, our MC wants to be a villainess because she has REASONS, but the problem is THAT SHE KEEPS COMING OFF AS A TSUNDERE. And the Heroine just accepts that, like “WOW!!!!”
Milady Just Wants To Relax is a good one if you want fluffy beast-kin getting treated nicely by our MC, who opens up a cafe after reaching her destruction flag. She’s having a nice time and the beast-kin have taken to protecting her. They try to stay in their human form, to keep her from feeling intimidated, when in reality, she likes their beast form. It’s just fluffy times here.
I have so many others to recommend, but I just suggest looking up the Villainess tag on mangadex.
THAT SAID, do keep an eye out for any red flags that pop up. Because you never know when you’ll come across another Abandoned Empress. Anyways, thanks for the recs!! Gonna read Tearmoon Empire Story!!
