changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.

I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.

Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.

No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.

But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

hey @clickergossip and @becomethesun im thinking about how my preschoolers had a valentines day dance where we had parents come and dance with us to songs that the kids chose. also thinking about how how toddler sarah and ellie would definitely choose the BEST songs

the other kids are choosing songs like let it go, we dont talk about bruno, and pup pup boogie from paw patrol. meanwhile ellie chooses “we belong together” by mariah and sarah’s chooses “at your best (you are love)” by aaliyah

like it's somewhere between nancy finding out that robin's the supergirl but before they're actually together ya know? but nancy's like, "hey rob, can you help me move my couch?" and robin agrees because 1.) gay 2.) the couch weighs nothing to her so sure why not?

this becomes a regular occurrence for the two (though it's really just an excuse for nancy to have robin in her apartment.)

Who's your fav. fallout character and why are they your favorite?

Surprisingly it’s not Benny, I just think of all the major players in New Vegas he’s the funniest to dissect.

My affection is sadly split between two characters Raul and Gloria Van Graff. I like Raul’s quest and I think he’s so funny. His options of becoming a mechanic or a fucking cowboy are so drastically different considering how he makes it clear he can’t even run efficiently without wheezing is just a killer. Like I get it your old and I’m a war machine I won’t leave you hanging, abuelo. I love having him and Lily and pretending my grandparents are taking me on the world’s most violent road trip ever. Plus he’s voiced by Danny Trejo, what’s not to love?

I also like strong women who aren’t the nicest but are also respectful. Gloria has standards and her own personal system and I am more happy to throw Cass to the sharks (Jean-Baptiste) if it means I can step foot into their establishment without getting shot. (I am no better than Pacer).

Most of my reasons are sillly and superficial but I’ve wasted so much time toting Raul around just to hear his dialogue and making stops to repeat conversations with Gloria.

Epithet Erased is one of those shows who simply pushes the urge to draw every single character at least once. All designs are gorgeous and the characters themselves don’t fall behind either. Drew our spicy soup man GIOVANNI POTAGE around 2021 back on my first watch, loved him back then and still love him now...

...aand since I recently re-watched I gotta continue to hunt my favorites... So here’s Mera! Kinda messy and harsh-looking but I think it has some fun and charm to it. Just like her, lol. It was a back-and-forth on my first watch, but I ended up really liking her, and this rewatch settled it, I really love her character.

if Julie and the Phantoms ever got renewed for those seasons like kenny planned, i would've liked to see that show get so unserious. Like we already got singing ghosts and magician ghosts and soul trading. just go bold yk? Make Julie a witch, what's the matter. Make Nick a psychic who can see ghosts. Bring a time travel arc where they mess up and alternate the future. Magic girl transformation. A rival band that also has some supernatural member like a vampire or smth. Make Carrie and Julir sing a duet while trying to upstage the othet but it just gets incredibly gay. Body swap episode. Love spell episode. An episode where they get trapped inside animals. Episode where julie becomes temporarily a ghost.

and the best part is that they'd write songs abt it and only the people involved would get to know the story behind. And would eventually bring bonding experiences to different pairs and development of usual pair ups. And be hella fun too.
