Flash Fiction Friday is a fun writer event that’s meant to inspire, share and connect writings of all genres and writers of all ages. It’s designed to make people want to write, especially if they’re feeling blocked. Everyone and everything is welcome!

We always do our very best to keep the prompt’s genre open, entertaining, positive and encouraging.

Write between 100-1000 words. It can be any genre, in any text format and 18+ is fine by us, just please tag accordingly.

Use this Friday’s theme in your text. Any way you see fit.

Post on your tumblr blog and remember to tag us at @flashfictionfridayofficial!! So we’ll see it, read it and reblog it!!

Deadline is 24 hours after the prompt has been issued (12 pm CET).

And then, next Friday, we’ll mention your work in a showcase post on our main blog before our next prompt drops.

Mrs. Hudson attends the first ever birthday party in 221B.

January 6

The fact that Epiphany and Sherlock’s birthday fell on the same date, should surprise no one. He’s quite smug about it himself, like the drama queen he is. I’m inserting an eyeroll right here! This is me a tiny bit inebriated with one glass too many of Tawny Port. No matter, it’s been a lovely day…

My Sacher Torte turned out to be perfect. The sponge had just the right consistency, the apricot jam I bought was exquisite and the chocolate glaze appeared shiny and rich. Sherlock almost drooled when he saw it.

“Happy birthday, Sherlock,” I say after I hand the cake to John.

I go over to hug him, and he embraces me for a long time, whispering his thanks, and finishes with kissing my cheek. His eyes are more green than blue today, and they shine bright. He’s happy, I realise.

Molly comes straight from the airport, a curtesy of Mycroft apparently, which Sherlock scoffs about, but only out of habit it seems. There’s no trace of hostility, and Molly brings a gift that makes Sherlock beam inappropriately.

“You got your hands on his ears!” Sherlock exclaims when he’s unwraps and opens the small box.

Molly blushes furiously and looks utterly pleased with herself. Her blush deepens when Sherlock kisses her cheek and thanks her more politely than I’ve ever witnessed him do.

“Perhaps wait with those until the party’s over?” John suggests mildly with such fondness in his voice, it almost makes me blush too.

“Of course, John,” Sherlock agrees softly, though I can see he aches to examine whoever’s ears Molly has gifted him.

After my fourth, or was it the fifth glass of port, I take my leave. Molly accompanies me downstairs to collect Tim. I’ll miss him, but in the long run, I think he’s better off with Molly. I’m too accustomed to live alone, and Tim’s onslaught on my furniture is something I can do without. Besides, what I saw before I descended to my flat, made it quite clear that my taxing days are over.

I turned to close the door to 221b behind me and right there, in front of the fireplace, John cupped Sherlock’s face in his hands, while Sherlock’s hands were secured around John’s waist. Just before their lips met, I heard John’s whisper, and it made my heart swell with affection for the two men.

“Happy birthday, my love.”

Hello and welcome to the Lockwood and Co Flash Fiction Challenge!

What is it: a weekly writing challenge in which a random photo prompt is released and creators have 48 hours to write something Lockwood and Co related based on the picture.

When does this occur: We're going to try two different times, a weekend and mid-week. So every other week it will occur from Friday noon CST-Sun noon CST, and then Tue noon CST-Thur noon CST. If changes are needed to the timing that can be arranged!

How do I participate: There is an ao3 collection (lockwoodandcoff) you can add your fic to, or you can post it on tumblr and it will be reblogged here on this page. There also is a forum in the Lockwood Chaos discord server if you would like to join!

Do I have to write every week? Of course not! This will be pretty low-key, so if something is sparking with the photo prompt then great! If not, just let the week pass and come back to the next one. We are all busy humans and don't always have time, so join in on as many or as little of the weeks as you want!

How much do I have to write? Up to you! I might add some word count restraints for those who want, but that will always be completely optional. Write 100 words, write a thousand, write a whole 24k one shot! Whatever strikes your fancy.

Riordanverse Flash Fic Fridays!

We are back with another eight Fridays of pure fun and flash fiction!

There are a few changes this time around.

The eight fridays are now consecutive

Each day will have 5 prompts and the sixth is free choice

The Ao3 collection is now unmoderated. Just don't upload anything unrelated to the riordanverse or against the rules and and we should be good!

Dates: March 29th, April 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th, May 3rd, 10th, 17th

Prompts go up at 12 PM EST the Thursday Before!

Any kind of short fic is a flash fic, can be three words or 1k! This is to just encourage writing so anyone who writes for any character/ship within the riordan verse is welcome to join!

Summary:

Izuku has liked you for years, he understands the fact that he’s your best friend and he wouldn’t do anything to ruin that but he just can’t hold his feelings in any longer. Will you accept his feelings or will you shatter his heart? There’s only one way to find out.

Sitting on his bed, Izuku always wondered what was so great about you. Was it the way you style your hair?

Maybe it was the way you walked around the world like you owned it and nobody, and I mean nobody, could tell you otherwise.

Or maybe it was the way you actually gave a shit about him.

You don’t care about how powerful his quirk is.

You’ll still challenge him head on and shit, maybe sometimes you will lose. Other times, you’ve managed to outsmart the boy

‘How do I get rid of this feeling in my chest’ Izuku thinks to himself

‘You tell them.’

Another voice other than his own responds to him.

‘That’s it! I’ll tell them.’

He’s constructed a plan to tell you everything.

Was it better in his head?

It’s 2pm on a Friday. Training took up a lot of the day but for some reason, the UA students had nothing to do now but relax.

“I’ll make my move now,” Izuku whispers to himself.

“Uhh. What move?” Y/N asks in a whisper as well, startling poor Izuku and having him jump back.

“Oh! Uh nothing! I’m just thinking of ways to study better…! Heh.” He responds in a panic, receiving a ‘I totally believe you’ look from you.

“Sureeee. And I’m Batman.” You respond in a very sarcastic tone. The one Izuku loves to hear, it makes his heart skip a beat.

“But um, Y/N?” “That's my name, ‘Zuku.”

“Can I talk to you for a moment? In private? Please?”

Y/N stares at the boy for a moment before giving him a silent nod.

Izuku wastes no time, grabbing Y/N by his wrist and heading outside of the UA building, he receives weird stares from people he passes but he’s too focused on making sure his heart doesn’t jump out of his chest.

When they’re outside, Izuku finds a tree under the shade, he’s breathing heavily and he’s visibly shaking.

He lets go of Y/N’s wrist and takes a deep breath.

“What’s up, bro?”

God that word brings so much pain.

“Well um… Y/N I’ve liked you for so long and no matter what happened, you were always right there. You made me feel like the best person to ever walk the earth and-“

Izuku is too busy talking to notice your wide eyes and how you look almost…disappointed?

“I wanna cherish you forever. I wanna give you the love that no guy ever will. I wanna be the one you come home to. The one who holds you at night when you don’t feel well. I wanna have arguments and the times we forgive each other. I want to have those late night talks with each other about nothing and make it into something, all I wanna say is I love y-!”

“Let me stop you there.” You interrupted his sentence and he takes a look at you finally.

Did you always look this aggravated?

“I’m sorry but you’re only my friend. For fucks sake, I call you my little brother to my friends and family.” Y/N’s tone is no longer warm but cold.

Izuku’s heart. Shattered into two.

‘Don’t cry. Don’t cry. Don’t cry.’ He repeats in his head over and over, drowning out your voice. He cannot bear the rejection, even though he knew it may come.

He runs off in a flash, not wanting to hear it. The last thing he heard from you clearly was you yelling his name.

Izuku is now in his room. Pillow in his chest and crying.

“H-how could I be so stupid..?” He cries into his pillow.

‘How could he ever love me..?’

Introducing: Equinox to Equinox Fanfiction Bingo

Insert the distant chorus of Earth, Wind & Fire's "September" here.

While technically, we haven't reached the equinox, the goal of this bingo was to provide some low stress, low-key motivation for the upcoming season. The dates themselves are less important and what matters more is the wide range of time the bingo allows. Because breaks are important and just as necessary.

If you want to keep it within the dates: Sep 23, 2023 through Mar 20, 2024, but no one is judging you on that. :D

This bingo was built for small steps and with flexibility in mind.

So, a few of us in the Thunderbirds are Go fandom have been feeling a bit more of the drag of life lately, or have had various reasons writing has taken a backseat. Everyone's reasons are their own. But we want to write - we want to write with low pressure. So we put together this little bingo for inspiring some reading and some writing for whatever level of motivation it brings.

What is a sprint? A writing exercise where you set a timer and write as much as you can in that time without editing or getting distracted by other things. Give yourself focused time. I recommend doing a sprint for about 30-45 min, but it can certainly be less. And it's always fun with company if you want to host or coordinate one with your friends.

Trickster's Blog Update

Hey everyone! As it is the start of a new year, I wanted to give you guys a heads up about a slight shift in this blog. Most of you know I write fanfic (recently Teen Wolf) and I will continue to do so, but I am currently giving most of my attention to an original project I am planning to publish.

Project Zander is a story about hree teens from an alternate 1940′s Texas (pagan gods, magic, cowboys and dragons, etc.) who are transported 900 years in the future during an airship crash. Using the skills their undertaker mentors taught them, they struggle to navigate their new world while coming up against cultural barriers, brainwashing monks, twisted magic, unresolved grief, and being stalked by the Wanderer, the only surviving god from their old world.

This will be tagged as #project zander and I plan to blog about the writing process and project progress.

I'm also going to start up some weekly posts instead of just strictly reblogging stuff. The reblogging will still happen, but I want to do some of my own content. At the moment I'm thinking of doing

Trapped in the Dark

Apologies for everyone who liked and reblogged the original. Tumblr mobile editing is a pita and wouldn't let me do stuff I can manage on desktop, so I had to repost this instead of continuing trying to edit

Summary: An entry for this week's Flash Fiction Friday. This is a piece detailing Meredith's thoughts and feelings after Moradin's supposed death the night His anvil fell to the Material Plane and then how she felt immediately after the anvil was repaired, sent back to the heavens and Moradin was restored to His position.

Warnings: ptsd flashback, near death experience, drowning imagery and descriptions

Notes: this is a very different style than I'm used to writing. The drowning incident did happen during the campaign and was so traumatic that everyone around the table now flinches any time new characters encounter water they need to cross, particularly if it's underground.

It's a disconcerting feeling when a connection you've had all your life is suddenly cut off with no warning whatsoever. It's a bit like a lamp suddenly being extinguished and having the pitch black consume everything around you before your eyes adjust enough to see again. Only it doesn't go away and you're suddenly trapped by it, fumbling around to try and find your way, to reorient yourself. But you can't. Then you find yourself drowning, unable to tell up from down; which way leads to air and salvation and which way leads to your closer to your demise. Can't see. Can't breathe.

Fear, blinding panic sets in. The struggle to free oneself from the pitch black void where a fire, warm, bright and comforting should be. There are others in the same boat, but how can you possibly help when you're struggling yourself? Up, which way is up?

Then, just as you accept your doom; accept that you'll be forever trapped in a lightless void for eternity, someone yanks you up. And suddenly there's air and light and warmth again. It's almost too much to start with, but the relief sets in and it's all you can do to not just break down and cry for hours. Then, as everything settles and the reality that you're safe and secure sets in- when you finally receive the reassurance that the connection so suddenly ripped from your very soul will never leave you again- it's all you can do not to sleep for the next several days.

Now I think I can begin to understand why the worshippers of Deep Sachellas insisted on declaring me a living saint. I still don't like that they did it, and I'm not going to put Elowyn and the others through that kind of embarrassment- the poor lassie's had more than enough hero worship for several lifetimes no thanks to Felix running his mouth- but I can understand the sentiment.

All I can do to repay the favour now is to do my damndest to make sure my dear 'mother-in-law' gets her comeuppance.

Up in the Night

Cheeky reblog of a little fic originally written for the Flash Fiction Friday prompt Stars and Shadows . . . so naturally it's John.

In the darkness of the wee hours he reached out and stopped the alarm before it could make a sound. He didn’t need it after all – he’d been too excited to get any sleep anyway. It was 2am, and he silently slipped out of bed and padded across the carpet. A muffled snort from the other side of the room had him glancing across at his brother, who rolled onto his back. For a few heartbeats he stood still and waited. The soft sounds of snoring were his signal that it was safe to open the door and escape into the dimly lit hallway.

He almost held his breath as he crept past the other bedrooms, stopping only when he reached the end of the hall. As he fumbled with the hook for the manhole cover he breathed a silent prayer, but the ladder to the attic descended without the tell-tale squeak before clicking into place.

When he reached the top he paused a moment. Despite having done this before – more times than he cared to let on – the way the shadows fell across the cramped space always creeped him out a little. His eyes passed over all the familiar boxes and piles of stored stuff, scanning the dark spaces – just in case! Finally, he turned his eyes toward the source of the soft, silvery light.

Treading carefully in his bare feet and avoiding the squeaky floorboards, he made his way to the telescope set up by the small attic window. He sat on Grandpa’s old trunk to look through the eye-piece and make the necessary adjustments. Yes, there. That was the spot, the right little patch of stars, but it would be clearer without the obstacle of the window pane.

He told himself he was only opening the window so he could see more clearly through the telescope, but deep down he knew the stars would call him closer if he let them. The slight squeal as he slid the window up and open had his heart pounding again and he waited with bated breath, listening for any sign of movement downstairs. After a long few seconds he felt assured he was still alone and undiscovered, so he resumed his position on the trunk to re-check the view through the telescope.

He didn’t think he would ever get tired of gazing up through miles of darkness to the wonders of the universe. Not just far away pinpricks of light, but amazing coloured clouds of gas and dust casting their own interstellar shadows. His drifting thoughts were interrupted by the first sign of the streak of light he was waiting for. Right on time. A distant comet providing a light show few would see. He tracked its course, intrigued by the colours flickering in the tail and marvelling at the way the elements were dancing across the sky.

All too soon the comet was out of sight again and he stood, raising his hands to close the window, but his eyes were drawn to those far away stars. Without even thinking about it he was climbing outside and onto the roof. His habit was well known, and he was not surprised to find the carefully placed blanket out there waiting for him. He smiled as he cocooned himself it its folds and lay back against the roof tiles to continue gazing up at the constellations, wondering which of his brothers had put the blanket up there for him this time – just like Mom used to do.

WIP Update - 18 May 2022

I was on vacation last week, so this is a combo update. Over the past 2 weeks, I touched 4 fics (2 WIPs & 2 new works) for a total of 3277 words, most of which were on a single fic! @psychiccatpanda posted the first chapter of our WinterIronHawk ‘accidental demon summoning’ collab fic and I posted a Stucky-by-proxy Incubus AU ficlet (updated from here) over on Ao3. Friday before last, I posted a ‘gradually moving in together’ WinterHawk ficlet for Flash Fiction Friday.

I’m sitting at 12 active WIPs (with a couple of maybe TBCs) with my current deadlines being the WinterHawk Bingo and Stucky Bingo which wrap up the end of May. I did sign up for the @steverogersbingo, which will send out cards starting 1 June.

On the crafting side, I have one Stuffed With Character commission slot open for June and 4 for July at the moment - am pretty busy with requests & prepping for a show!

See below cut for the WIPs (arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc) I am working on - feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects (or any other WIPs I’ve got out there) – they really help feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

The Devil Is in the Details (Sign on the Dotted Line)

This is the WinterIronHawk ‘accidental demon summoning’ fic @psychiccatpanda and I have been having So Much Fun with! We’re up to Chapter 6 of Tony and Clint and Bucky shenanigans (1914 words at the moment) - kicking off with Ty as an Awful Boyfriend before bringing in a couple more members of the gang! I plan to use Chapter 2 (possibly posting this Friday) for my BBB K5 - Tony Stark | Iron Man, and possibly Chapter 3 (posting 5/27) for my WHB FREE square.

WinterHawk Bingo - Round 3 [WHB_R3] (Runs thru 31 May 2022)

Fourteen fills posted - one WIP at the moment - I got my Row 1 bingo and am one square away from B column and I column bingoes - my goal is to get at least one of those completed by the end of next month.

* B5 - Huddling for Warmth - thinking about combining this with one of the Meet Ugly Writing Prompts I reblogged: 02. I bought a house three months ago but I’m finally moving in and discover you’ve been squatting because you’re homeless.

* I3 - Happy Bucky Barnes - seems a good match with my BBB Happily Ever After square - this may be a moodboard/ficlet Wedding Day combo

* N3 - FREE - Probably filling this with Chapter 3 of You Can’t Stop it with a Gun - Young Clint is given the choice between going to jail or joining a shadowy organization - but this time it’s not SHIELD. It’s in progress and up to 503 words. Current Last Line: Kostya listened intently, but couldn’t hear a thing that sounded like choppers. If I get stuck on this fic - then I’ll probably use Chapter 3 of The Devil Is in the Details (Sign on the Dotted Line)

Stucky Bingo - Round 3 [SB R3] (Runs thru 31 May 2022)

23 fills with 2 WIPs, and one Vague Idea. I’ve got Column B and I, and Row 1 bingos and am hoping to score a blackout, as I have one adopted fill done and another drafted.

* N3 - FREE - I was inspired by the May challenge to combine this with my BBB Merpeople square and work on a a continuation of Something’s Starting Right Now that adds Steve to the WinterHawk mix. I’m already 526 words in and have just introduced Steve into the story. I should have enough words to be able to pull a WinterHawk Bingo prompt in as well - maybe Huddling for Warmth or the FREE square, if nothing else. Current Last Line: Recalling the storm of a few days prior, Clint suspected the human was the survivor of a sunken ship ... and that he wouldn’t survive much longer.

* N5 - KINK: Sugar Daddy - Filled this with Chapter 4 of Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) - Mission Four: Pour Some Sugar: Part 1 - Steve invites Bucky to meet him in New York for a weekend. This posted on the 6th and also filled my STB Bingo ID Porn square.

* G4 - KINK: End of the world sex - got some help brainstorming during March’s Discord server party - I may be writing a porn parody of (some part of) Infinity War 😁 including Thanos wielding something other than a glove for the Infinity (of Sex) Stones.

* O2 - AU: A/B/O - planning to use this on the next chapter of Flawed Hypothesis, which is Steve POV and currently sitting at 69 words. Faustess might be helping out on this as well? Current Last Line: But now they were living in a new century, where men could love and marry other men.

* ADOPTED2 : Incubi/succubi AU - Using a poem I wrote years & years ago as lead-in for a Stucky-by-proxy/established relationship fic - A Stolen Moment posted this morning and came in at 424 words.

A Warm Light Zine - Due 20 Jun

I got accepted as a writer for A Warm Light Zine - dedicated to 2012 Avenger era Stony and coming hopefully sometime this autumn! I was assigned the 2012 canon-compliant category for a 2-5k fic. While I can’t share much about it here, I do want to at least keep track of my word count: up to 467

Steve | Tony | Bucky Bingo Round 2 [STBB R2] (Runs thru 30 Jun 2022)

Ten fills, and two WIPs. Taking advantage of the One Fill, One Bingo opportunity, and might get a Column G bingo as well. Will have to lean hard into this once May is over!

* B4 - Working Out - this came from a Bucky Barnes Bingo server party: Binging Avengers Exercises - the team posts their workouts online and modern!Bucky spends entirely too much time watching the channel - especially Captain America and Iron Man.

* N2 - AU: Western - possible crossover with MWAPB Next Door Neighbors – I have a decent idea for this one (semi-inspired by a recent re-read of Laura Ingalls Wilder A Long Winter) and jotted down about 225 words’ worth of notes/VERY rough draft. Holding on to this to see if I can crossflll with an upcoming TSB square.

* G4 - ID Porn - see Stucky Bingo - KINK: Sugar Daddy above

* O4 - Lazy Sunday Morning - have a smutty WinterIron idea for this one; need to get it jotted down - will most likely cross over with my BBB KINK: Edging square.

Started something to combining the following squares for the One Fill, One Bingo badge: B5 - “Aliens, again?”, I5 - Lifeguard, N5 - Barbeque, G5 - River Rafting, O5 - Wakanda. Avengers + Guardians in a partying mood = a huge headache for T’Challa. It’s currently sitting at 339 words. Current Last Line: I’m Sam, Sam Wilson – another friend of Steve’s.

Avengers Bingo [AvB] (Runs thru 24 Dec)

Two fills posted and 0 WIPs - I decided to further challenge myself by pairing up each square with a unique combo of 2 original MCU Avengers! With the help of the STB Enthusiasts Discord folks - I’ve got all 16 squares planned out, at least in terms of who to write about, and half of them have some sort of idea or crossover square to go along with them. Feel free to toss other plot bunnies my way…

* A2 - On the Run - Natasha & Steve - crossover with MWAPB - Farmer’s Market? post CA:CW Wakanda ?

* A4 - Mutual Pining - Steve/Thor - crossover with MWAPB - Thor.

* C4 - Bodyguard AU - Thor/Tony - young!Tony - crush on Cap plays into attraction (obvious title - Thunderstruck) - holding on this til next round of TSB.

D2 - Romeo & Juliet AU - basic idea: Steve (jock) & Tony (geek) trying out for title roles in R&J - despite their respective friend groups thinking it’s a terrible idea. Both cliques end up becoming friends.

You're getting a snippet from All the King's Horses (I know probably not the one people want lol) but I am SO EXCITED about it and I also just realized today is Wednesday not Thursday which means I have to wait even longer to share it so I am sad. George cleared his throat. “Matthew and I are going to head out,” he said, trying and failing to sound nonchalant. Gabi looked up sharply, “Matty’s coming?” She asked, a smile playing on the corners of her mouth and George flushed. Polly had no doubt filled her in on their Cold War. “Yeah,” said George, “we’re still good to meet you at Jalapeño’s?” “Yep,” said Gabi, “just waiting on Polly to finish giving meds.” “Cool, I think Ross and Waughty will be there first, they said they would get a table,” George said, hooking his backpack over his shoulder. “We’ll see you soon?” “Sounds good,” said Gabi, flashing George a thumbs up with a glint in her eye. Matthew was standing by the entrance to the barn when George returned, wearing a pair of wayfarer style sunglasses and a well worn Kentucky Horse Park baseball cap tugged down over his curls. George swallowed a pang of disappointment, even sweaty and squished from wearing a helmet all day, George liked Matthew’s curls. “Ready?” George asked and Matthew nodded, following him to the parking lot and climbing into the passenger seat of George’s truck. George looked away as he did so, not wanting to get caught checking out his ass, admiring the way his navy blue breeches pulled tight as he hoisted himself into George’s lifted vehicle, the hop jump he had to do to get in only highlighting how small he was. George quickly banished the thought of how that meant Matthew would fit perfectly, tucked against his side.

Too many 💀 Officially in progress being actively update (at least in The 1975 fandom I'm pretending the other fandoms don't exist at the moment) I have five: All the King's Horses Make Way for Ducklings You Know Where the City Is It's Christmas (So This Is Gonna Be a Nightmare) On a Friday In terms of ones that exist and are actively being worked on but aren't ready to be posted / haven't been posted yet I a have five more: Tennessee Stella McCartney (the Nashville™️ fic) Now Is the Hour (The teen dad fictional!matty fic) Vampire AU (we're still working on a name) The End of SATVB Sick Fic One shot (name also TBD) That super secret fourth thing that I keep joking about So apparently all in all that's TEN WIPS and i did not realize it was that many and now I'm stressed... (Less work has gone into them - but I also have the infection verse fics where Baby Gatty gets together and Fictional!Matty is readjusting to the public eye after the chapter eight events of the A&E fic but I'm not emotionally ready to admit that I have 12 WIPs lol)

That is a very good question! I whatever fic gets updated on Tuesday will be determined by the poll that I still don't have the results for yet (it ends soon if you haven't voted yet!). Once the Christmas Fic is finished I would like to start posting another one of my in progress WIPs, I'm just not sure which one yet. I also want to FINALLY hopefully get the SATVB sick fic finished - I'm just worried people are going to be disappointed because I have taken so long to finish it and I'm worried it's been over hyped
