The Pavillon Frais, also called Salon Frais or Pavillon du Treillage, in the idyllic gardens of the Petit Trianon, Versailles. Earlier this month I had the opportunity to visit the Château de Versailles and it was a truly monumental experience from start to finish. There was nothing that could have quite prepared me for the sheer sumptuousness of King Louis XIV’s glory, from its magnificent architecture and resplendent interiors to its charming gardens. The grand interiors of the palace defy description, but I was equally and utterly besotted with the gardens, particularly those of the Petit Trianon. The visit is certainly one my most cherished memories of 2022 and I can’t wait to return again next year. #versailles #palaceofversailles #chateaudeversailles #louisxiv #petitetrianon #pavillion #gardenpavilion #pavillionfrais #angejacquesgabriel #18thcentury #18thcenturyarchitecture #architecture #trellis #gardens #flowers #plants #marieantoinette #madamedepompadour #madamedubarry #frenchhistory #ancienregime #paris #travel #summer #summer2022 #versaillesgardens #versaillespalace #andrelenotre #gardendesign #gardenarchitecture (at Petit Trianon) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci0PQ59Ii6e/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
The Basilic in French folklore: . In French folklore, Basilic was a dragon that haunted the area round the city of Vienne, taking cattle and people. it had a stare that petrified all it looked upon. This state of affairs continued until the brave knight Fretard overcame it, confining it to a well. However, Basilic was said to emerge every 10 years and could only be overcome if someone saw it before it could gaze upon the onlooker. it attempts to rise to the top of the well and if it should succeed in emerging, then things will continue as they were before. This seems to be a local legend related to the Basilisk. . Art: @johan_egerkrans_illustrator thank you! It is 1847 Paris France and astoundingly, the Duchess of Praslin has been found in a room, bolted from the inside, shockingly brutally murdered. She has put up a tremendous fight as bloody clumps of hair are found dotted around the room. In her death throes, she managed to violently ring the bell, thus bringing the skeleton staff rushing to her aid - most probably unexpectedly by the murderer.
This case rocked Europe and helped to overthrow France's governemnt of the time under King Louis Philippe. The letters left behind tragically and grapohically spell put the anguish of a womn overthrown for a younger model after decades of marraige together. The brutal murder of the Duchess of Praslin is today's episode of Murderous Mondays.
Being royalty is hard enough, but when your secrets could change your life…
Seventeenth-century France. Louis de Bourbon isn't a real prince—even though his father is King Louis XIV.
The illegitimate son of the King and his mistress, Louise de La Vallière, young Louis has been kept far from the court's eyes until summoned to bid adieu to his mother. To atone for her guilt, she joins a convent, abandoning Louis to an uncertain future. When Louis is humiliated by his father for his role in a secret society, he struggles to redeem himself through heroism and self-sacrifice on the battlefield in his father’s army.
Will Louis find a way to connect with his father amidst the prejudices of the time and the sexuality conflict he is grappling?
Napoléon is often depicted holding his stomach. He had stomach cancer and he was also poisoned with small amounts of arsenic given to him, gradually over time. #napoleon #poisoning #frenchhistory #gastriccancer https://www.instagram.com/p/CrEPRrnr6UF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
The Marble Courtyard at Versailles, the heart of King Louis XIII’s original château. It was fascinating to learn that the elaborate black and white tiles in the courtyard were taken from Nicolas Fouquet’s Vaux Le Vicomte. Was there anything King Louis XIV didn’t plunder from there? #versailles #palaceofversailles #chateaudeversailles #france #courdemabre #royalpalace #louisxiii #louisxiv #louisxv #louisxvi #thesunking #madamedepompadour #marieantoinette #classicalism #baroque #architecture #courtyard #royalcourt #palace #frenchhistory #unescoworldheritage #nicholasfouquet #louislevau #andrelenotre #charleslebrun #juleshardouinmansart #marble #sculpture #architect #architecturephotography (at Château de Versailles) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjDtt3koNJv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
