Hey here’s my mini essay I wrote for my English class about car seat headrest bc I thought it would be funny

This unit we have talked about ways in which humans are interconnected and one's individual responsibility to society. "Unforgiving girl (she not an" by Car Seat Headrest is a great addition to this unit of work to add onto the themes of human connection and our society. The song and the album it comes from uses repetition and symbolism to create a story about the narrator's life, his connections with the people he meets and dealing with the problems that come up from the world at large. Then, finally reconciling with those people and learning to move on, He believes the world is "unforgiving and that to survive it, you shouldn't be that way; you need to be able to understand why people are the way they are and why they affect you as much as they do in order to heal from the world.

The narrator starts the song, saying:

What a glorious hell we have found

Until I recognize the sound

Of my voice again

For years I hadn't had a clue

But suddenly I can look through

Your eyes again

The speaker is upset by the world. He doesn't really know himself that well as he is trying to recognize his voice. The girl in this situation is the other person he speaks to, trying to reconcile with his situation. This part sets up why their connection and interconnectedness is so important.

He continues the song with:

They say that the world is one, but if the world is one

How come you never come around anymore?

(I guess it's not that simple)

Well, everyone learns to live with their sins

But girl you wear yours like a brand new skin

So take it all off and let me back into your head

His connection with this girl is complex. He depends on her to understand his situation because she is living in it with him and experiencing it in her own way, which he tries to learn about. The girl is able to "live with (her) sins" so well that it's like a "brand new skin" while the speaker can't. So, by going into her head he tries to learn how she lives the way she does. This literal symbol of going inside someone's head demonstrates the two's dependance on eachother.

Furthering this, he sings:

She moves and

She speaks and

She's on a chain that moves towards perfection

Baby, the effects are so good these days

If there were gears behind those big brown eyes

I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference

Oh, girl

You know you got to be forgiving in a world like this

It's a small world

And you know you gotta come see me sooner or later

In the song, the singer repeats these last two lines, creating a repetition. This represents how much he believes that the only way to navigate this world is to be the opposite of what it expects of people. There is an emphasis put on these lines to drive home the point he makes. The narrator is so interconnected with this girl that he can't tell when her actions are truly hers or a product of her environment. The society these two live in has affected them so strongly that its hard to understand what is really going on. He urges her to be "forgiving” because their world is the exact opposite.

Personally, I enjoy the song because the writer and band have all been through similar struggles. The listener can truly connect with the song's theme of human connection when diving deeper into the lyrics. Car Seat Headrest is an underground band that has a wide fanbase, covering any social group, nationality, or gender. The song isn't meant for just one type of person, rather it shows an honest situation that anyone can relate to.

To summarize, this unit has stories about connections between others and our society. The song "Unforgiving girl (she's not an)" by Car Seat Headrest would be a great addition to this unit because it delves deep into connections between two people and the dependance they create

with each other living under the boundaries of our society today. Anyone can relate to the lyrics of the song because of the popular culture we are surrounded by, causing our own personal connections to be difficult to understand at times.

A show that’s 2 seasons long. S1 we set up our main character (A) and his bestie/rival/someone close (B), who the fandom starts shipping him with. so first going into this the only thing ontop of my mind is that this is probably going to be quite inconsistent.
