I keep seeing posts from people that are like "ew can you believe THIS got published" and it just reeks of them being an envious hater. They all complain about enemies to lovers or dark romance or monster fucking, and whine that they've read better fanfic

Like okay, then just keep reading fic. It's okay! No one is making you read the Reylo inspired enemies to lovers book!!

I know published fanfic has received a bad reputation, but I've read both good and bad. To me. And that's the thing; it's not all going to resonate with me personally or be up my alley, but no one is forcing me to read it.

If you don't like etl or het romance, go read mlm romance, or I guess stick to fic if you can't find the mlm romance because the tiktok algorithm isn't feeding it directly to you, because I promise you it is out there...some of it was even once fic. I remember the sterek fandom having several people become published. It's not just reylo getting book deals, and people shrieking about it just makes it seem like they are angry and bitter over the most vanilla-ass etl ship out there getting attention.

I think what makes me sad about it, is that even if they were publishing completely original fiction, but were previously writing in fandom, they would still get grief. Yeah, not usually from the same people, but they can't win. Often fic writers that go on to be published authors are not taken seriously as writers. They aren't making "real literature" and they never have because writing fic is a "silly girl's hobby". *sigh*

I know of an author that doesn't even like her fanfic being brought up, because despite all of her books being original fiction, she was treated like they were complete drivel since she was previously a fic writer. it's a painful subject for her, which sucks. That was years of her life that were probably wonderful at the time, and now it's poisoned because "how dare she get her roots in fanfic".

#not a sterek but I slept for 8 hours and woke up at 2am so I’ve been reading this. I’ve had 3 thoughts mainly which are. One. I assume this is what Taylor swifts life is like. in another world there’s 100k about Taylor being forced to perform Cornelia street after a horrific betrayal leading to breakup while she’s a mess and rebounds with some guy. Two. It’s so funny to me that it’s stiles because while it’s not recognizable as stiles it is like. Yeah of course out of all the fucking teen wolf characters YOU think it’s STILES that’s a tragic figure whose trauma is underexplored while Derek goes 🧍‍♂️, in a distinctly absurdly attractive manner, orphaned without friends. There’s an unintentionally (?) funny aspect to the meta of it. I haven’t eeked past s3 still but it’s very. Out of stiles and Derek there was one of them who was in a really fucked could easily throw the word abusive around relationship. And one of them had zero friends to talk to or process things with and was entirely isolated with this horrific relationship that was His Fault hanging over him. and it wasn’t stiles I’ll tell you that much. Three. Thought three is a thought I’m often idly thinking where I think it should be a law to assign celebrities a therapist and or case worker once they’re famous enough to have articles written about them. the fact i just realized there’s an “anti scott mcall” tag just baffles me. it’s just weird. you can dislike scott but there is zero reason to make an anti tag.

sure, he made stupid mistakes but it’s the fact y’all want him out of the show? he’s the fucking main character and no one’s perfect. he’s a flawed character and let’s not act like your favs aren’t deeply flawed as well?

most of the people who interact or interfere with this tag are sterek or stiles stilinski fans which is pretty sad. y’all are either mad cause tyler p said the sterek ship is “twisted” (even though it’s really not that deep) or y’all just hating to hate. SMH LOL.

since scott McCall appreciation week is starting tomorrow imma just say that many people think that his character is “bland” or “boring” compared to the other characters which is wrong. everyone is entitled to their opinions so let me state mine real quick.

scott tends to be “bland” to most stiles fans because that’s who most people focus on for “comic relief” on the show. that’s why no one notices the good things he does for the others around him.

also, there are ppl in the anti tag saying how tyler posey is a racist (when it isn't even true) just because their bitter. aka, the same people who bash on tyler p but stan peter hales actor- who has been called out for many problematic things?

the hatred of scott mccall literally gets too much to the point where there are people are hating on the innocent, "im the hot girl" scene. WHAT?? HOW COULD SOMEONE HATE SCOTT IN THAT SCENE. i literally thought it was so funny with stiles and isaac and so adorable.

tyler p's done some stuff irl but anti's have gone way too far, just cause he has a fucking only fans doesn't mean shit. sterek fans/anti tyler p and scott mcalls have gone way over the top and made fun of how scott looks and his jaw- comparing it stiles/ dylan o brien. LIKE.. come awn now yall. literally everyone is attractive in the show and the haters can't pull any of them lmfao.

scott mccall has also done things, ALL the characters have but yet you feel the need to attack him only? like that time scott believed theo over stiles, that was dumb. really dumb- like why would you believe some rando over your bestfriend. but now yall are just throwing words in.

no one mentions how stiles treated scott like a literal dog during the first few seasons, when he couldn't control himself just because lydia kissed scott- (scott wasn't even himself) no one mentions how stiles made fun of liam's IED. no one mentions how he was always negative towards isaac. no one talks about how he literally pushed his dad into drinking more alcohol even though noah was known to have an alcohol problem. stiles acts as if he knows isaac's trauma, but really he doesn't. he also played with malia's feelings, i could list a whole lot of things- but im not a hypocrite. i can list a whole lot of things with scott as well.

so really what i'm saying here is that all characters have flaws- and there's no reason to make an 'anti' tag because that's what makes them realistic.

Did…. Did anyone bother to tell Stiles that Allison is alive?  are we meant to believe that nobody did?? or what’s worse, that he was told and he just didn’t come to Beacon Hills or call or anything?

On that note, are we actually supposed to believe — and I am not a Sterek girlie by any means, love and light to y’all but it’s just not my cup of tea — that Derek fucking DIED and there was a whole ass memorial service that Stiles just didn’t bother to show up to???? HELLO????

I mean it’s also nearing levels of ‘spn finale Dean Winchester ending’ stupid that Derek died in the first place, given that his whooooole character arc (by my book, anyway) is springing from the place of his trauma, and the way that he has blamed himself, struggled with guilt and loneliness and has been atoning for all of the pain of what he perceives to be personal failures the ENTIRE TIME, never letting himself get too close to people, never asking for help, and instead sacrificing for and nurturing Scott as the ideal alpha that he feels he couldn’t be… I don’t know. It just feels like a needless sacrifice to me, like there are so many ways that you can restrain someone and prevent them from moving from the place where you need to. Oh I don’t know burn them alive ?maybe? Which don’t involve sacrificing yourself and burning alive yourself, right in front of your son and the rest of your loved ones. I know again there are production factors at play, maybe it’s likely that they knew damn well Tyler H wouldn’t or couldn’t come back for another movie so they decided to kill off his character?? but suffice to say I was not happy with that at all (and not in the way I think it was INTENDED to upset me.)

Anyway, I know that Stiles needed to be absent because Dylan O’Brien was not a part of this movie, but if I’m being honest, I kind of would rather that Stiles had died ! Obviously I love Stiles’s character and it’s not that I want him dead at all!! it’s just. if they were going to fully send it, and they know he’s not coming back, and they knew that they were going to make up this premonition dream to break up Stydia and (poorly) explain his absence, then it would’ve done a lot better to make that separation as permanent as in life and death. The Stiles we know would never want to be separated from the people he loves as much as he has been now because of all of the external, real life factors. In fact, the season arc with the ghost riders proved to us just how far Stiles can and would go to be present! It was aaaactually a whole thing ! So, if I’m being honest… (1) the way that he and Lydia parted, (2) the way that he isn’t present or even mentioned in the light of his loved ones dying/being resurrected, and (3) again the fact that he wasn’t even at Derek’s memorial … it all feels like a silent character assassination to me. It feels like the mentioning of “Stiles” in this new canon contains less essence of Stiles than it would’ve if he had died. I know it’s easy to have a hater moment and make criticisms and piss and moan about how I would’ve done it better, and I know it’s not always as easy as it sounds… but JESUS CHRIST

Also congrats to the sterek girlies on your own personal y yo a ti moment……that jeep shit was CRAZY

The “Their Personalities Work together”gay OTP (focus on Sterek)

*continuation of my types of OTP posts*

I would argue that a good 50% or more of our OTP’s fit under this category. Chances are you have uttered this sentence or something along the line of it when defending this OTP. 

For me this is Sterek. And it’s a hard one to admit because I really do think these characters would be perfect together. To a lot of people Sterek falls under the “clear as fucking day” relationship but I cannot say that. I started watching Teen Wolf already knowing about the popularity of Sterek. I was excited because my favorite couple is Destiel and I was expecting a ship similar to that. But there were a lot of issues (please prepare for a loooong ass post-it starts out anti sterek but I get to why it’s an OTP that works):

1. They don’t have a lot of screen time together.

 Don’t get me wrong. Their scenes together are the most memorable. I’ve probably watched “Magic Bullet,”Wolf’s Bane,” and “Abomination” more times than I can count. Truth is Dylan and Tyler have some of the best chemistry on the show and are phenomenal actors. I wish the show were centered on those two rather than Scott. But I’ve watched videos of the two and the same scenes are constantly reused and most fan video are much shorter than the 3 minutes I have as a baseline because there isn’t that much footage in comparison to Destiel. 

2. The age difference

I ship these two together but even I recognize this is a big issue. I am personally 23 years old now and no matter how perfect a 16/17 year old is for me I would never, ever cross that line. Not just because it’s frowned upon and apparently is some states illegal but because I couldn’t take that from them. I would feel like an anchor, and not the beautiful teen wolf version. My best explanation is the relationship between Aria and Ezra from Pretty Little Liars. I personally believe those two are soulmates but it wasn’t the right time. Aria, a teenager, pushed and persisted and Ezra should have backed down because she needed to be a teenager. Sure she could never have a normal teenage existence but that scene with her looking in the yearbook and realizing she had little involvement in clubs made me cry. If I were Derek I would be too afraid Stiles would not have lived his life to the fullest before settling down with me. I would need him to go to college or start his career and figure himself out in the scary world without his dad before I made a move. 

3. Stiles is clearly in love with Lydia

I do like this relationship. Do I prefer Sterek? Hell yes. But these two are amazing together as well and most of the fandom has accepted that even if Sterek were to happen, Stiles and Lydia would be the best bros. Because their relationship and chemistry together is also very strong. And Stiles so clearly loves her. And while a lot of it is him putting her on a pedestal he clearly loves her for more than her looks by the end of the show. 

 Now in my perfect world they date for a few years and are an amazing couple for their first loves but eventually they break up and Stiles falls for Derek and Lydia becomes the first female President of the USA. It’d be a scary world but I’d live in it happily.

NOW why this OTP is still one of my OTP’s

Their Personalities are Perfect for Each other!

I find the phrase opposites attract to be true but I don’t think most of these couples actually work out very well in the end. My husband and I are celebrating 6 years together this year. You need to have similarities where it counts. The same values and understanding for it to work. 

Stiles and Derek understand each other and have the same values. Both are lonely characters as a result of loss. Stiles luckily has Scott and his father but the air of loneliness and pain that radiates off of him is apparent. Derek had his sister for so long but then loses everything and becomes a man taking on situations way over his head. In a lot of ways Derek is still a kid. As a result of this loss both are very territorial characters and focus their efforts on self preservation and protecting the people they love. Scott is their antithesis. He’s the brave, foolish Gryffindor who always wants to do the right thing with no loss being the only answer. 

Derek and Stiles, to me are clearly Slytherin. Resourceful and cunning to achieve their plans and while they wouldn’t wish anyone dead and hope to prevent that outcome they are realistic about death happening. There’s a reason Derek has an easier time conversing with Stiles than Scott. They get each other even if their priorities are different. 

They are a perfect balance. Derek is quiet and surly whereas Stiles is talkative and expressive. Ir’s created the best banter that leads to the best scenes on the show. Their love-hate relationship is fun to watch and one of my favorite things to see is how Derek relaxes around Stiles. Sure he still looks like he wants to punch Stiles all the time but as time goes on you can see the two are fond of each other. Plus, there is little question in my mind that Stiles is Derek’s anchor. 

The scenes between them in my opinion aren’t enough to say that the two are in love with one another like say Destiel (who are clearly already in love) but they are a great start. And that’s why most of us ship them. We can see how it would work. We can see it lasting. We can see it being one of the best relationships ever. 

In my world Derek grows by giving his heart to Braeden and learning to allow himself to be happy. Same with Stiles- he finds happiness in his relationship with Lydia and his career. And then what happens to a lot of couples happens to them- they grow apart and fall out of love. And Stiles and Derek meet at a pack reunion and they see that spark. Derek sees the maturity in Stiles that was always missing and he’s not a kid anymore, he’s in his late twenties and established. And Stiles finds that when he’s not focused on Lydia that it’s much easier to admit he is very attracted to Derek and getting him to smile is the highlight of his day because he likes to work for those smiles. And maybe he’s not in Derek’s league in level of hotness but he dated Lydia Martin and well if that isn’t the biggest confidence boost ever. So they start and then they don’t let go. 

Sterek works. I have thousands of fanfics to read where the characters aren’t OOC and it’s natural. We do have scenes that are amazing and hint at the perfection it could be. So yes this OTP is based on the cliche argument “their personalities work together” that some of us desperately cry out to the haters but we see it. And I’ll go down with my ship. Because it’s really not that weak of an argument even though many think so.

I'm so hyped but I'm at work so I can't be pulling my ao3 up to dig through for recs. At the same time I know they actually don't give a fuck, they're not going to read through shit they're still going to be upset and carry on like they always do, HOWEVER, now I just want to have the recs for other people so I might end up adding to that thread anyways...*grumbles

SDCC after life

W I guess for many people this.. things is over..  Well if you think that, you’re straight, and you don’t know what it’s like to live the life of those who have to suffer insult and mockery everyday.

As at today, excuse my poor english wording, LGBT people have to deal with the aftermath of what happen at the SDCC/ jeremy, melissa, mehcad were the one who marked me, even if chris as enjoying it, and odette, Katty and David were laughing too. Even if Kattyn and David looks uncomfortable.

The things is, David use the “ we were tired “ card, mehcad used the “ i’m a black dude “ card, jeremy “ used the “ my cousin is gay” card. AS much as those could be a valid answer to a question no one asked, the aftermath of this is people - read LGBT - are blamed for making these public figure address the fact that one - jeremy - was yelling looking straight at the camera, that melissa - who hasn’t even bother to make and apologies - Odette who was clapping and chris who was clearly enjoying it even if not singing or rather yelling,  that many people even those not in the fandom and not even whatching supergirl being offend.

The problem itself is, would they have made it - i’m still laughing at the thought - about a straight pairing, no one would care, because it wouldn’t happen in the first place. would people said it about i don’t know.. winn and lena, people would be like “ rude “ and move on because the pairing more likely that could happen.  With LGBT fan, it can’t work like that. Not because we’re sensible, or because we love to fight - even if we don’t - but because it’s more likely to not happen. There are code in show, movie and manga, whatever support you use there are code, that help people to know what they are dealing with, simple detail as a mark, the way a character dress, words, hair, everything.

Once Upon a time, it’s the fairytale’s code which is obvious, but also the LGBTQIA+ code for character, Emma sing plaid, leather, beanie, are used by LGBTQIA+ ^people in real life, Regina using shirt, looking at woman and man lips, invading space, is used for straight relationship.

Grimm, use the fantasy code with lighting, almost always dark, or blue light, tis little light that isn’t bright nor dark but in between, mirror, or words.

The little chief ( le petit chef ) who used code of “ shōnen  “ who’s code for manga like naruto, DBZ..

And more but it’s mostly obvious, but in those you can see code like attraction between same sex, or even hint of what’s going to happen, or who the character are, like in Grimm, Monroe have a wolf on the glass on his door, and at first it’s like “ he love wolf “ but when you know he is a wolf, you’re like “ it’s the legacy, it’s part of him,” and you can’t deny detail in show or movie. In horror movie wen a cross is trurning upside down you know it mean the devil presence. IT’s a a code, it’s something you know because you’re used to it. But curiously, due to straight priviledge, when something who always happen to straight character is given to LGBTQIA+ character you turn blind sigh.. why ? because it’s not something you’re familiar with and something you don’t give a fuck about. we LGBTQIA+ character, can relate, can compare.  That’s why we can see Lena and Kara, Emma and Regina, Sterek etc as a legit pairing, they used code. And us being open mind and open to whatever can be shown to us we see it.

why all that ? Because 2 years ago i would have lagh at them yelling “ they’re just friend “.. because they are friend. Today, still in the closet bt aware.. Yes they are, we know it, doesn’t mean we like to be yelled at, and laughed at for reading codes.. The problem in the supergirl cast apologies, for those who did.. is that they are not the one who face homophobes and haters, they are not the one who’s life got invalidated. They are still happy, enjoying life while we are over there struggling with our existence.

 I’m not out, and one time i try to bring up the idea that i’m not straight and i get “ if you’re with a girl, i disown you “, i played it as a joke, but it hurt to know you might get rejected by your family, by people who raised you to be someone tolerant. Like spergirl try to teach us to not judge, in the end, they judged us.

Today, many people, mostly karamel shipper, used the fact that the cast laughed at Supercorp shipper to make us live, to take the reign of the fandom. They would pair Lena with the most dangerous guys or random guy ot there just to people stop shipping Lena and Kara. The cast behavior lead to something worst than just laugh, and maybe it was just a joke, but at what point do they know how it’s like to fight every day to think we shouldn't kill ourselves ? How do they know what it’s like to try to enjoy something when everyone pushed us to give up on what bring us hope and joy ? what do they know about us on the street when we’re holding our partner’s hand ? They know noting. They give power to those who bring us down, they give power to the people they said they want to fight with their progressive idea and when they say they want to show an LGBT character who don’t dies. 

The problem in the end isn’t the fact that they thought it was a joke, it’s the fact that what they think as a joke is being used by homophobes to hurt the LGBTQIA+ community. And apparently, for them beside Katty, it’s not a problem, it’s jst a joke. You can’t joke on something that is still an open wound. People are still fighting against white people wanting to take pleasure in slavery, even if it ends at best 50 years ago. LAst years we’ve faced more death than any years. IT’s not a joke. IT’s our life. IT’s not funny, it happen everyday. And we’re tired too. we just want to live and enjoy our life.

Supergirl fucked up, royally. And for a show about hope, strong woman and tolerance, the cast sure as hell, don’t show it.

the trailer coming out just shows how popular sterek is and it's not just pure sterek shippers - like i for example ship stydia and was so excited to see it go canon in 6a but i am such a big sterek shipper and literally went crazy seeing the trailer. the haters are just bitter it's so popular.

Sterek’s always been popular. Which is why TW producers are using the ship to get viewers. Which is cruel, btw... I love Stydia as well, and there was barely, if nothing, Stydia in the trailer... The fact that they used clips of Sterek instead of Stydia in the trailer just shows how they are trapping us Sterek fans. Haters can go (sorry for the language) fuck themselves.

when i came into the tw fandom, i thought posey was a white tan guy. i learned he's poc by being called racist by scott stans. i'm poc too (also bi) but european. scott became my favorite, but i liked derek, boyd, allison & stiles too. in that order. scallison was my first tw ship. then i started to get into sterek & met lovely fans. the ones who ruined scott for me tho were the hateful scott stans. i have never seen such nasty behavior ever before. i left tw & scott fandom after "posey gate".

I do get where you are coming from - nasty fans are enough reason to leave any fandom. And I’ve certainly gotten into nasty fights with Scott-stans, too.

But what you are describing as coming from the pro-Scott fandom, I get predominantly from the Sterek fandom. That post is a sample of what I get - because not only had I had dozens of similar messages before I started screenshotting them, I also get similar things from the Stalia and Stydia fans, too. Meanwhile, I’ve gotten a grand total of 1 anonymous hate message from a Scott-stan - the rest have been either logged-in, or on posts, and at only a fraction of the Sterek, Stalia, and Stydia nonsense.

Almost every fan I’ve talked to started out being a really big fan of something else, often the ‘opposite’ ship or character. There are tons of Sterek fans who left the Sciles or pro-Scott fandom…and there are tons of Sciles fans who used to love Sterek, but left because of the fandom. Most Derek-haters I’ve met credit their hate of him to Sterek fans more than the show.

I was starting to be like that too - then realized, no, fuck that, I’m not leaving my ship. I’m staying right here, and right everywhere. So much of Teen Wolf fandom is built on tribalism and on hatred. I love all the characters and the ships, but that means I see their dark undersides, too. So maybe I’m closer to, “I’m not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally” in that regard.

It doesn’t help that for non-Sterek fans, finding Sterek-free Teen Wolf content or spaces is extraordinarily difficult (despite what some Sterek fans would like you to think - sometimes, even when you try to avoid it, it pops up when you least expect it).

Check the stats on this post - Stiles appears as the most frequent character for both the Scott and Stiles tag, and in the next biggest ship of Teen Wolf after Sterek, Stiles and Derek still both appear more than one of the actual members of that ship - who is also the main character of the show, appearing 4th down the list of characters most prevalent in the tag for his most common ship. So Scott fans - and every non-Sterek fan - is on a tremendous defensive.

I talk about Sterek both because I am in it more, and because of just how dramatically bigger it is than all the other ship fandoms combined. (Go back to the top of that stats page - add up literally all the other ships on that graph, and they still add up to only around two-thirds of Sterek, alone.)

And it shows. I’ve mentioned before, both Tyler Hoechlin and Tyler Posey have spoken somewhat negatively about Sterek as a ship. One was forgotten in a week, the other is still lambasted for it years afterwards (despite the fact his came after a tremendous amount of harassment related to the ship - yes, all the ships’ fans harassed all the cast, but Sterek and anti-Scott hate outweighed the rest).

Every sub-fandom in Teen Wolf has shitty fans. All that happened was that as we moved from one to another, we learned to tune out or avoid the bad fans - they didn’t actually go away - and so we assume that our first Teen Wolf fandom was the only one with bad fans, not realizing that all of them had some. (To be quite blunt, there is a reason I encourage people to watch the show, but stay away from the fandom.)

(And, I’ve seen similar behavior before, just not this extensively. Fandom has always had shitty people in it - it’s just that in prior platforms, there were checks in place to keep it from metastasizing out of control. On Tumblr, all those checks are gone, giving people freedom to do whatever the hell they wanted - which was a huge part of its appeal in the first place. Teen Wolf is the first big fandom to originate on Tumblr. Most of the older and/or bigger fandoms migrated here from more community-oriented environments like LJ/DW, forums, and other discussion-centric (as opposed to Tumblr’s content-centric) systems. Fandom’s always been like this - Teen Wolf, and Tumblr, just made it a little more obvious.)
