【History Note About Tongtianguanfu (Chinese: 通天冠服)】
Tongtianguanfu (Chinese: 通天冠服) is a form of court attire in hanfu which was worn by the Emperor during the Song dynasty on very important occasions, such as grand court sessions and during major title-granting ceremonies. The attire traces its origin from the Han Dynasty. It was also worn in the Jin dynasty Emperors when the apparel system of the Song dynasty was imitated and formed their own carriages and apparel system, and in the Ming dynasty. The tongtianguanfu was composed of a red outer robe, a white inner robe, a bixi, and a guan called tongtianguan(tongtian crown), and a neck accessory called fangxin quling.
Among the Tongtianguanfu (Chinese: 通天冠服), the "Tongtian crown" which wear by emperor has a long history, and has been recorded as early as the Han Dynasty(202 BC –220 AD) in "Book of the Later Han·Yufu Zhixia/后汉书·舆服志下":
“通天冠,高九寸,正竖,顶少邪(斜)却,乃直下为铁卷梁,前有山、展筒、为述,乘舆所常服。”
In the Han Dynasty, when all the officials paid their congratulations on the Zhēngyuè/正月 (the first month of the year in the Chinese calendar), the emperor would wear the "Tongtian crown". According to the Tongtian Crown, it existed in all dynasties from the Qin to the Ming Dynasty (except the Yuan Dynasty), and was abolished in the Qing Dynasty.
And the Tongtianguanfu (Chinese: 通天冠服) of the Han Chinese dynasties in China have gone through a certain amount of evolution.
For reference:
Han Dynasty(202 BC –220 AD) Tongtian crown/通天冠
The earliest form of Tongtian crown that can be seen so far comes from the Han Dynasty stone carvings.
The Tongtian Crown of this period has a similar structure to the Jinxian Crown(进贤冠) of the ministers.
Wei and Jin Dynasties-Southern and Northern Dynasties Tongtian crown/通天冠
Tang dynasty (618–907) Tongtian crown/通天冠
Ming dynasty (1368-1644) Tongtian crown/通天冠
The Tongtian crown of the Ming Dynasty was briefly used in the early years of Hongwu(the early ming dynasty), but was soon completely replaced by Pi Bian(皮弁), and its appearance was much lower-key than that of the Song Dynasty
after replace by Pi Bian crown(皮弁):
This Pi Bian crown belonged to King Luhuang of the Ming Dynasty, so it only has 9 colorful beads, while the emperor's Pi Bian crown has 12 colorful beads on it.
※The Yuan Dynasty established by the Mongols and the Qing Dynasty established by the Manchus did not use this kind of crown and clothing※

I finished SWBTS a while ago and I love general ouyang so much! I’ve been waiting to read the book since 2020 but only got my book a few days ago, ahhhh it feels so surreal! well written eunuch antags are so rare in historical fiction and I never thought I’d live to see one beautifully written like a trans mlm, this really satisfies my incredibly specific niche (I’ve been fascinated by the concept for years), sorry I don’t know how to authentically describe how much ouyangs character means to me, he’s genuinely (almost) everything I’ve wanted to see in historical fiction, like oh my goodness... he raised the eunuch antag bar way too high now I’m gonna be disappointed when I read anything else
thank you if you read my entire paragraph above I feel like its really hard to articulate just how much I love ouyang as a gay dude with a eunuch hyperfixation... hope u like the art!

【武弁大冠Wubian Daguan/Military Officials Crown】
Also known as Wu Guan, He Guan, 鶡冠,鶡(pronounce:hé) is a warrior crown with "tail-feather of a brown longtailed pheasant". It was the crown of warriors from the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties. During the development process, the shape of the crown changed with different periods.
※鶡(pronounce:hé):Crossoptilon mantchuricum,a bird that resembles a pheasant and is good at fighting,is one of the rare endemic animals of China
A military officials crown was unearthed from Xinmang Tomb No. 62, Mozuizi, Wuwei, Gansu Province. The crown was wrapped with thin bamboo tendons, supported by a bamboo ring on the top of the head, and lined with a bow. It is a complete example of what a military officials wore.
In the last picture, both men were wearing 道服 (dàofú) - not to be confused with a 道袍(dàopáo) - and a pair of 云履 (yún lǚ - cloud shoes). The man on the left (in blue) was wearing the chanfujin shown above while holding a book.
The the man on the right (in green) was wearing a 四方平定巾 (sìfāng píngdìng jīn - a square hat with a flat top) with a red 花簪 (huāzān - flower hairpin). It was probably a 缠花 (chán huā - a type of handicraft made by wrapping threads on a flat surface, usually made into leaflets and those leaflets are then arranged to make flowers, leaves, insects, etc.). He was holding a 如意 (rúyì - ‘as [you] wish’ - a type of scepter).
Some more post-true ending Sifu doodles! The first half is based on k.hyli's Instagram reel; the rest is just my silly addition XDD This one took me longer than usual to finish because I had a creative project due for school, so I'm really happy it's done now and not gathering dust in my drafts!
Speaking of the addition, I imagine it's MC's birthday, so Yang and Sean are treating their little sister out for the day! Unfortunately, Yang hasn't used a digital camera for years, so MC finds plenty of upside-down photos on her camera afterward loll
