Happy Birthday Scottish singersongwriter KT Tunstall

Edinburgh born singer-songwriter KT Tunstall is one of Scotland's most successful musicians having sold over six million albums worldwide.

Kate “KT” Victoria Tunstall was born on this day 1975, her birth mother was a Hong Kong-born exotic dancer, who put her up for adoption her parents David and Rosemary Tunstall adopted her and raised her in St Andrews, she has always been aware that she was adopted.

Strangely enough for a musician of her magnitude, KT Tunstall did not grow up in a musical household. Her parents’ only tape was a Tom Lehrer album on tape, leading Tunstall to discover the world of music entirely on her own , but it didn’t hold her back, KT was musical from an early age, learning to play piano, flute and guitar as a teenager.

KT moved to the USA, hungry for experiences and independence, she gained a scholarship to Kent School in Connecticut, New England. Whilst out there KT spent time on a hippy commune and formed her first band, The Happy Campers, she also spent a lot of time on busking in Burlington, Vermont.

After her time in the U.S she enrolled in a music course at Royal Holloway College in London, before finally moving back to St Andrews, she joined a group of folk musicians from around the East Neuk called The Fence Collective, which included the very talented Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote, in time she decided folk music was not for her and went on her way.

She began writing projects with Swedish songwriter/producer Martin Terefe and London-based Orcadian Jimmy Hogarth and London’s Tommy D. She started work on her debut album with her new band and legendary U2/New Order/Happy Monday’s producer Steve Osborne at the helm. ‘Eye to the Telescope’ saw her whittle down a massive catalogue of over 100 songs to just 12.

Luck played a part in her big break when due to another artist pulling out she appeared on 'Later With Jools Holland’ performing ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’ it went on to become one of the most played songs of the summer. Her double platinum selling debut album 'Eye to the Telescope’ was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize.

KT has now had 6 top 20 albums, the latest, Wax was in 2018, it reached number 6 in Scotland and 15 in the UK charts, her new album, Nut, is due out in September.

I remember her being interviewed on The Proclaimers, This is the Story documentary in 2017, where she chose their excellent song Scotland’s Story, commenting “Scotland’s Story just really struck me as quite a different song for them, that they were really saying something incredibly poignant and quite brave. It’s quite a critical song of the way that Scotland’s history is logged.

“Here we are in 2017 and it couldn’t be a more poignant, relevant song for what’s going on in the world and I just thought for right now, it’s an amazing song to sing.”

2023 birthday details

I’ve been absent from social media all day because I was very busy during my birthday, and finally caught up on some rest afterwards.

The midnight before my birthday, I ate the graham mango float that I prepared before Christmas, because no one else has eaten it.

I made a lot of bargaining to set the conditions of my birthday satisfaction. First it was “As long as I have cake, I’ll be happy.” Then I realized I probably can’t go out to buy cake because I haven’t showered yet, and I don’t want to be around people if I’m not clean. So next I said “As long as buy Bon Chon chicken, I’ll be happy.” I also set the condition “As long as I draw something I like, I’ll be happy for the rest of the year”.

I set up these conditions because I became superstitious after my mom died in the same month that I had a bad birthday on that year (2021). Since then, I thought “I need to be happy on my birthday to ensure a good year for everyone else”. I don’t want to live with regrets. I can’t handle another death.

In the morning, my dad greeted me with a singsong of Happy Birthday.

I then told him that I want to order from Bon Chon (because he has a Food Panda account). We changed our mind to Kenny Rogers because they have more selection and I wanted to try the new chocolate muffins, and I can’t order a bingsu from Bon Chon online anyway. I chose this option because I thought we wouldn’t have cake, but a muffin will be good enough for me.

I’ve been working on a drawing to celebrate my own birthday.

My aunt (dad’s sister) sent some money through dad’s G-Cash, and his app refused to recognize my bank’s QR code, so I told my dad to just keep the money in his account. I’ll be paying him for the birthday meal using that money anyway. I realized that I didn’t order spaghetti or any noodle for my birthday, which is a symbol of long life. I didn’t mind because I wasn’t looking forward to a long life anyway.

Dad went out to buy a cake. We agreed that it should be small. I was really happy because I’ll actually have cake on my birthday after all!!

My aunt (mom’s sister) then texted dad that they’re coming over after lunch to bring some pancit. I was forced to take a shower earlier than I planned because of that!

When dad came home, he returned with a large chocolate roll cake. ^^;; Our lunch order arrived soon after, and my family sang Happy Birthday, and we ate. This is 8 pcs of air fried chicken + 4 corn muffins + 4 side dishes + 4 rice + 4 Minute Maid bottles, for the price of 888 pesos (discounted price for the seasonal promo). I added a box of 6 Dark Chocolate Chocnut muffins. It doesn’t have any taste of dark chocolate and it’s mostly just chocnut, but false advertising aside, I actually liked it. I wrongly chose chicken macaroni for my side dish, which was just macaroni covered in mayonnaise, which was really gross and I hated it after one bite. It didn’t even have any chicken. Never ordering a chicken macaroni ever again. I finally took a shower after that meal.

While waiting for my relatives to arrive, I continued drawing. About 2 hours later, I hear the low humming of car machines, and soon I heard my aunt’s voice, followed by my cousins. My aunt said I shouldn’t be sleeping on my birthday, but I was just working on my bed.

As my relatives arrived and seated themselves, they began to sing Happy Birthday. They also handed gifts from Christmas for the three of us in my family.

Aside from a large bilao of pancit, they also brought a large cake. My aunt was arranging the lollipop designs that came with it, and my cousins teased her that she broke some or placed them the wrong way.

Soon, they gathered around the table to sing me a Happy Birthday, and we began to eat. My brother stayed in his room to play God of War Ragnarok and skipped the meal because he’s still full from our lunch. I was also stuffed, but I felt like I couldn’t not eat their birthday offering. For some reason, they cut up the roll instead of the large birthday cake. I was very confused! It’s a very large cake for my family to eat alone, so I hoped they’d take some of it home. but they left it untouched in our house!

They started watching Infinity War. Apparently they really enjoy dad’s home theater system. I can hear one of my cousins explaining some of the Marvel lore, so I think she must have watched Loki (the series) too.

We also planned to visit the cemetery afterwards. I was looking forward to it, because I also wanted to visit mom on my birthday, but I never asked my dad for that before, because going there is quite inconvenient.

Dad was trying to show our e-bike to my cousin, who gave it a test drive. My uncle then reminded us that we should go soon as the cemetery might close down after 4pm? So my dad charged the e-bike for a while, and my relatives continued watching.

We finally left around 4pm, and my uncle had to stop by a gas station to refuel. Dad was leading the way on our e-bike. Soon, we reached it, and there was a lot of people visiting as well, probably because it’s after New Year, and a lot of people finally have free time away from work.

My cousin set up her phone to play a recording of mom singing Dreaming of You in karaoke. And right after that, it began to rain. We joked that it’s mom crying in heaven because most of the family visited her. We rushed back to our vehicles, and waited in the shelter for the rain to stop, and it did not long after.

As we were about to return to our vehicles, I pulled out 1k bills for my cousins to split up, but my older cousin refused it, insisting that she has a job. So I gave it to her younger sister. I also gave them to my younger cousins. I haven’t given them anything for years and I was always on the receiving end, so I really wanted them to accept it!

We finally went home after that. Our e-bike soon reached low power and we feared that we won’t make it home without pushing it. But we actually got home, even if it was very slow, and my brother and I had to get out to lessen the load. My dad was the real MVP of this day for doing so much work. I can only offer little help by washing the dishes and clearing the table mess, but even then, he still did a lot more.

When we got home, I opened the gifts. I got soft slippers from my uncle’s family, and I’m really happy about that, because my bedroom slippers broke last year and I was unable to fix/replace it. I also got a cute mug from my cousin’s family, who didn’t show up today. I got awesome snacks from my male cousin and his fiancee. And the ones from my aunt and her daughter, I opened earlier to see if it fits. I didn’t take pics, but they’re also good (and they’re black, like the entirety of my wardrobe.)

I tried to finish my drawing, but I was too tired and fell asleep while working on it. I woke up a few times, but my consciousness kept pulling me back to sleep in the comfortable temperature.

So in summary:

I had 2 cakes on my birthday.

I was able to draw, even if I wasn’t able to finish it before my birthday ended.

I enjoyed my birthday a lot.

That day was full of eventful things to me, and it’s the happiest birthday I’ve had in a while. I can only hope the people who celebrated with me will experience that kind of happiness for themselves too. I’m really thankful to my family and my relatives.

Always Love Dolly: Parton Turns 75

It’s Jan. 19, 2021, Dolly Parton’s 75th birthday. And today the world is talking about her in the context of that milestone.

A couple of weeks ago, the world was chattering about the song - one of thousands besides “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” she’s said to have written - recorded in 2015 and stashed away until 2045.

A couple of months ago, it was the news that her $1 million donation played a part a creating a new COVID-19 vaccine.

Over the summer of 2020, it was Parton’s way of voicing support for Black Lives Matter when she said: “Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter?”

She’s been famous for duetting with Porter Wagoner and Kenny Rogers and Trio-ing with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. For her boobs. For her plastic surgery - “it is true that I look artificial,” she said in 2019.

Parton’s been lauded for her music, her acting, her humanity, her philanthropy, her long marriage, her singing. Basically for nearly everything she’s been and done over the years.

And today, she’s feted for reaching a milestone.

Happy birthday.

The world will always love you, Dolly Parton.

Do You Remember When? (Epilogue)

Written for @levihanweek Day 6: Memory and Day 7: Free Space. This is a continuation of the other fic I wrote which you can find here!

Part 1

A/N:

Levi and Hange are 24 when they meet again and 29 when they get married

Levi believed, with all his heart, that he was in some cheesy romantic movie or a shitty fanfic. Like the ones where there are 2 childhood friends, they separate, meet again, and fall in love after all those years.

Well, now that movie/book had ended and opened up to the sequel: the marriage.

Levi stared at himself while he adjusted the tie in the mirror. He was currently getting ready for his big day, and he also wanted to be alone for a few minutes. Here he was at a stage in life he never expected. Marrying his childhood crush, Hange.

The couple decided to keep their marriage small. Only close friends and families were allowed to witness the event. Luckily they found a small botanical garden that was perfect for the venue, reception, and sunset photoshoots. Plus, the garden had a section dedicated to sunflowers, a flower that makes Levi smile every time he sees it. Overall, it was perfect for the couple.

Levi still remembered the day they reunited. It was only 5 years ago when Hange was with Erwin, and Levi swore Erwin would introduce her as his lover. Boy, was he wrong.

Levi made a mental note to thank whoever above for not including that.

His relationship with Hange developed smoothly for the most part. Sure there were rough patches along the way, but the two always overcame it. Thus their love grew stronger as the years progressed.

Their first date started as a simple fancy homemade dinner. It was quiet and peaceful. The couple had even sung some karaoke and ended the night waltzing to jazz music.

The second date was a whole 180. This date included Levi's 2021 Ducati XDiavel Black Star

motorcycle. It was a gift given to him by his uncle and all the gambling money he earned. The bike alone took Hange's breath away.

Hange let out a loud whistle as she eyed the Ducati. The motorcycle was very sleek, black, gray, and had a few hints of red. Overall, it screamed Levi.

"Levi! I didn't know you owned a Ducati! Do you know how much they are? Over 20k!" Hange exclaimed with stars in her eyes. Levi smirked before walking up to her side. He wrapped an arm around her waist and rested his head on her shoulder.

"Actually, this bike was a gift from Kenny. He won enough at the casino and bought it for me for my 24th birthday."

Hange fondly smiled at the thought. She knew Kenny always had a soft spot for Levi since he is his only nephew.

"You know what we should do now, Levi?" Hange's smile turned into a full grin. "Let's take it for a spin!"

Levi took his head off of Hanges shoulder and looked at her with shock. "Just like 10 years ago?"

"Yes! But…." Her voice trailed off, and she stared down at her feet. "Can I drive it this time?"

Levi's jaw dropped, and he just stared at her. Hange waved a hand in front of his face.

"Levi? Are you there?"

"I heard you. It's just….are you sure?" He asked with worry, and Hange chuckled at how cute he looked.

"No need to worry about me, Levi. Mike used to let me drive his motorcycle around, so I know what to do."

"He let you do what?!" Levi became horrified. Why didn't Mike ever mention this to him?

Hange waved a hand nonchalantly. "I only had minor scrapes when I first started, but I managed to pick it up quickly. Just like you!"

"So, where do you want to go?" Hange asked Levi, who wrapped his arms around her waist. The motorcycle purred with life, and the two had their helmets secured on their heads. The only thing left to do was actually leave Levi's garage.

"I'm okay with going anywhere. Just as long as I’m with you."

"Really? You don't mind driving us off the cliff?" Hange teased and laughed at her own suggestion.

Levi rolled his eyes but smirked along with Hange. "No, and nowhere reckless, Four-Eyes. Got it?"

Hange did a mini salute before facing forward and positioning herself to take off. "Yes, sir! Besides, I know the perfect place to go."

Levi decided to not question where Hange wanted to bring him. He trusted her enough to know that wherever she brought him will hold significance to the both of them.

Levi rested his head against Hange's back as she took off. He watched the city pass by in a blur while listening to Hange's merry laugh. It was like music to his ears despite the other sounds in the background. He kept his focus on Hange only.

Hange zoomed and zigzagged through the city. What felt like seconds, was actually hours when they arrived at their destination. Levi's eyes widened in recognition.

"Is this?" Levi asked Hange, and she nodded.

In front of Levi was the same park he took her to several years ago. The park itself had been updated in the past 10 years since the time he and Hange last snuck out. There were multiple colorful flowers and trees planted all over to provide more natural shade. Additionally, the city added more benches so people could sit down and enjoy the scenery.

Hange parked the motorcycle so she and Levi could get off. She extended her hand out to Levi (which he gladly accepted) and led him to the hill, where they shared their first kiss.

This time, there was a giant ginkgo tree with bright yellow leaves on the branches. The autumn breeze blew some of the leaves off to float in the air as if they were dancing. Hange let go of Levi to run up ahead and go under the tree.

It was an amazing sight for Levi to witness: from below the tree, Hange watched the leaves fall. She spread her arms out and laughed as the leaves began dancing around her body like it was people worshiping a goddess.

Boy was Levi in love.

"Levi! Come join me." Hange called out to him as the ginkgo leaves started decorating her brown hair.

Levi strode over to Hange and reached up to her head when he was close enough. He plucked a yellow leaf out of Hange's hair and brought it close to examine it.

"Did you know that the ginkgo leaf is considered a living fossil, and it symbolizes hope and peace in China? Additionally, it also survived the Hiroshima bombing, so it also symbolizes endurance and vitality."

Suddenly, Hange's face became serious, and she clasped her hands over Levi's. The yellow ginkgo leaf remained in Levi's grasp.

"Levi, I'm sorry about our falling out in the past."

"Hange, you don't need to apologize-"

Hange shut Levi up by pressing a finger to his lips.

"Let me finish." She added and retracted her finger. "I want this relationship-" she gestured between the two of them. "To be like the ginkgo leaf. Do you want to know why?" She quietly added.

Levi remained quiet but nodded his head, so Hange could continue.

"I want us to endure through every challenge we face together. Until we die. I want us to someday live together, have kids, and keep making happy memories. I know this is our second date, but I have always loved you, Levi. I want you to know that, but I don't expect you to--"

Hange never finished her rambling when Levi swiftly grabbed Hange by the back of her head and brought his lips to hers. She dropped her hands down and brought Levi close to her.

Levi didn't need to vocalize anything, but Hange already knew. It was like telepathy between the two of them; Levi loved her too.

The couple was preoccupied with their embrace to notice the yellow ginkgo leaf flutter down and land softly on the grass.

Levi smiled at the declaration of love under the ginkgo tree. The leaf Levi held was now pressed in a frame that sat in the couple's living room. It was a constant reminder of a new start in their lives. It symbolized turning a new leaf for the two.

Levi moved on to add the boutonniere to his suit. The item itself was made up of fake (because it saves money and lasts longer. Hange’s words, not his) sunflowers. Levi smiled after he finally pinned the boutonniere.

Boy, was he in love with Hange.

The door rattling interrupted Levi's thoughts of his fiance, and he clicked his tongue in annoyance.

"Mike! Erwin! I told you to knock before coming in-" Levi complained and turned around to glare at the intruder, only to be greeted by his fiance instead.

"Here. Hange?!" He exclaimed, and Hange chuckled.

"Oh, Levi. You know I don't knock when I enter the room. Especially the bedroom. I always catch you at the perfect times." She chuckled and wiggled her eyebrows. Levi blushed and looked away out of embarrassment.

"Why are you here? What about the whole 'seeing the bride before the wedding thing?'" Levi added, and Hange rolled her eyes.

"I could care less about that whole superstition shit, Levi. You know that."

Levi looked at Hange with concern. "What are you doing here anyway? Is something wrong?"

Hange fake gasped and widened her eyes. "Is it wrong for me to see my future husband on our wedding day?" She slumped her shoulders and strode over to stand next to Levi. Levi, noticing Hange’s distress, led her to sit down on a nearby sofa.

"Levi, to be honest, I'm nervous, and I just wanted to see you.”She admitted, wrapped her arms around Levi, and buried her face in the crook of his neck. She was careful enough to not ruin her makeup and hair.

Levi hugged Hange back and rubbed her back. "Your bridesmaids must be worried about you right now. Did you go ‘bridezilla’ on them?"

Hange laughed and looked up at Levi. He looked down at her in return. "Worse, but you don't need to know that."

Levi chuckled, and silence enveloped the two. It was nice, just sitting alone together in tranquility. This was their time to share before the ceremony. Sure, there might be chaos outside the room, but Levi and Hange were together. They endured every challenge like the ginkgo tree. The couple was also like a sunflower and the sun: facing each other until the end of the day.

succession s3 e7 recap: are you ready to crucify billy joel? 1/3

HELLO AND WELCOME TO KENFEST 2021!!!

anyone else get major anxiety from watching this episode?

first and foremost, we begin this week's shitshow with kendall singing billy joel. king of cringe did it again!!!

never thought i'd miss the rapping, but hey, this season has made me reevaluate some things.

the team (aka mostly roman) are preparing for a meeting with gojo, a streaming platform run by some swedish zuckerberg asshole.

tom is, as always, mostly concerned about shopping for prisons.

excellent meme content, matty-boy. you are really killing it this season.

before the meeting, the gang celebrates with champagne (but they're not celebrating) because DOJ and the infamous laurie have come through.

nobody is going to jail. they think. and it's cause of celebration, but they are not celebrating.

what i love about corporate culture is how clear and concise it all is.

tom is handling the news that he is no longer going to prison very normally.

he's just a super normal guy obsessed with his wife's tall cousin.

however, this is only a side plot, really, because the real story of this episode is kendall's birthday.

we find him high up (...) on a skyscraper... keep kenny away from high places and ledges, please...

here's to forty: the notorious ken ready to die....

kendall unhinged used to be funny. now it's just sad. this episode made me sad.

connor shows up with a broken arm!!! he is polling at one percent!!! that's four million people!!!

and he doesn't want to take his coat off.

as a person who is always cold, i appreciate this important representation.

the sibs walk through their mum's vagina and enter the world of kendall roy. i don't know what else to add to that... did you see the giant legs?

shiv asks about tabitha. this is YET ANOTHER scene where shiv knowing about roman and gerri is being hinted at. and as the conflict between the twins (TWINS) ramp up, i can't help but think it might be a part of shiv's attempt to knock roman down a few pegs.

ken seems genuinely happy to see them all. the gangs all here.

sad to say this was probably the highlight of kendall's birthday.

it gets a lot more depressing from here on out. i'm not ready.

Happy 47th Birthday Scottish singersongwriter KT Tunstall

Kate “KT” Victoria Tunstall was born in Edinburgh, 1975, her birth mother was a Hong Kong-born exotic dancer, who put her up for adoption her parents David and Rosemary Tunstall adopted her and raised her in St Andrews, she has always been aware that she was adopted.

Strangely enough for a musician of her magnitude, KT Tunstall did not grow up in a musical household. Her parents' only tape was a Tom Lehrer album on tape, leading Tunstall to discover the world of music entirely on her own , but it didn’t hold her back, KT was musical from an early age, learning to play piano, flute and guitar as a teenager.

Luck played a part in her big break when due to another artist pulling out she appeared on 'Later With Jools Holland’ performing 'Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’ it went on to become one of the most played songs of the summer. Her double platinum selling debut album 'Eye to the Telescope’ was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize.

KT has now had 6 top 20 albums, the latest, Wax was in 2018, it reached number 6 in Scotland and 15 in the UK charts, her new album, Nut, is due out in September.

"Here we are in 2017 and it couldn’t be a more poignant, relevant song for what’s going on in the world and I just thought for right now, it’s an amazing song to sing.”

Tunstall has recently joined a host of famous faces to create special limited-edition postcards for this summer’s music festivals on behalf of the charity WaterAid. The limited-edition postcards will be officially launched at Glastonbury festival, which kicks off tomorrow. Festival-goers can pick up an exclusive postcard and send one to Boris Johnson calling for the government to take urgent action to tackle the climate crisis.

KT, who featured water-themed lyrics on her postcard, said: “It’s unacceptable that one in ten people have no clean water, and that these are the same people who are living on the frontline of the climate crisis.

“Water is so key to life, a lot of lyrics in my songs centre around it. My postcard design in support of WaterAid’s climate campaign features every lyric I’ve been inspired to write about water. With clean water, communities can stay healthy now and in the future.”

It’s never easy choosing a song for my posts, especially with someone like KT, who has a great catalogue to choose from , but I've plumped for a cover of a Bruce Springsteen she performed at The Quay Sessions with another recent birthday girl, Julie Fowlis, it’s called State Trooper.

When I was 3, I met a boy named Kent in Sunday school. We went to the same school until I left after 5th grade to go to a new school, but then transferred again to a new school in 7th grade and who should I find on my first day in my new school? Yup, Kent. We immediately gravitated towards each other and the other kids like us in the class, the broken, the tired, the misfits, and formed a little protective family unto ourselves. High school came and some of us, like myself got separated once again, but through those 4 years we always met up again and again. We kept making the same group of friends and hanging out with the same group of people over and over again. It a big city like Chicago, we always managed to find the ones who were just like us. Granted, we got into some trouble, we all listened to, and in Kenny’s case made, some amazing music, we all experimented with the typical teenage nonsense, but we all came out the other side. Some of us wiser, some of us crazier, all of us with scars and none of us without some brilliant stories. Kenny and I were in the same hospital for a month, Forest. We had the same Doctors that used to ride our asses on a daily basis, Dr. Gamze and Dr. Moshavitiz, he and I bonded over that and I still remember him telling me stories and hiding in the dryer to avoid going to a group therapy session, and removing the wheel casters from one of the Doctors chairs because he was always leaning back in the chair when he was psychoanalyzing some kid. Watching him go ass over tea kettle, while immature, was funny and what else did you expect from 15 year old kids? I told him about my little secret I learned, the locked wards will all unlock if you set off the fire alarm, and the southwest stairwell exits right into the forest in the rear of the building. At 3 am, there is not enough staff to go running through the woods to find you and if you had some beer and smokes back there, you can have at least 30-45 minutes before the cops get to you. Look there was a reason I was in there, I was a little shit, and I never said I was not. Anyway, once we finally grew up, Kent and I continued to have a friendship that was one that existed in occasional texts and yearly birthday wishes and Facebook conversations. I wish I had seen him more in my adult years, I wish I had talked to him more. I talked to him about his health issue and I told him is he needed anything I of course would be there for him, but after that when I talked to him, he acted like everything was fine. I should have known he never wanted to bring anyone down with his problems; he always wanted to make everyone happy and make sure everyone was having a good time. Today, Monday 10/18/2021, I got word Kent died Saturday afternoon 10/16/2021 at 4:20 pm (sneaky monkey) and I just went into shock. I don’t think it registered for a full hour or so and when it did, I went into the bathroom at work and cried. My friend of 41 years was gone and I know that he would want us to party and celebrate his life and listen to good music and be happy and laugh. So I guess I can smile and with love in my heart say I knew a wonderful man that I lost when I was 44 years old.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Happy Hump Day!

It was Luther Vandross’s birthday yesterday. Why are people still so passionate about his music? Quite simply: he was blessed with a quite unique voice. Everybody loves that voice: men and women, young and old, gay and straight. Like the seven wonders of the world, like sunrise, like sunset, like twilight and moonlight, his voice (and the songs he wrote) were magical.

Tuesday is my really busy day: two four-hour lessons with a 30-minute break between them. Of course, the best bit is watching the realisation in people’s eyes. You watch them finally get it and that is so satisfying! One guy actually said to me, “Thank you! That makes sense!” I absolutely love it! He’d been stumbling in the dark and I showed him the light. Really gratifying!

Naturally, gutted that there won’t be a European Super League! I was so looking forward to seeing the back of certain English teams! Now I’ll probably be stuck with them forever?

So looking forward to my first DJ gig of 2021 on Friday, May 21 at Let The Music Play at The Lamex Stadium, Stevenage. Yes, a football stadium, with lots of space (and social distancing!) As long as the weather’s nice, we will have a right laugh! So look forward to seeing Phil Fearon, Kenny Thomas and Georgie Bromfield, my brothers Jon Jules and James Anthony plus, of course, some exceptionally beautiful women that I suspect may attend? Then I’ve got the NSPCC Soul Weekend (July 30 – August 2), the sold out Mi-Soul All-Dayer in Brighton and someone’s asked me to pencil-in July 2022 on another continent! Things are looking up?

And I guess we’ll have to sit on our hands until that idiot Boris makes his next decision? He destroyed 2020 with his indecisiveness; let’s see if he can get something right? Not holding my breath. He’ll probably be too busy giving more public money to his friends? I want my social life back. I want a holiday. I want to leave my mask at home. It’s not too much to ask for.

Naturally, we’re relieved that justice has been served in the Derek Chauvin trial but, if you follow American news carefully (as I do), it’s distressing how many people die at the hands of the police every year. When it comes to white suspects, the police always seem to arrest them without killing them.

Have a wonderful and well-endowed Wednesday. I love you all. Yes, a crazy, bald man loves and cares about you.
