The thing that strikes me about Taylor is how insensitive it is and how she is talking about mental health. Did she really love Joe? Because it seemed to me she was eager for a marriage she could show off and was mad that Joe’s mental health was getting in the way of that. Because if Joe was the person she could see herself getting married to and having children with then I am sure you could have found a better way to overcome it together other than fantasize over a racist man.

I personally I’m on a long term relationship (5 years) and a few months ago I got into this very heavy depression and it was ruining our relationship. I became really closed off, in constant bad mood and didn’t notice much that my partner was also struggling with that. I constantly felt like a burden and like I wasn’t making them happy anymore. Dating someone with mental health issues isn’t a walk in the part. It got so bad that I couldn’t eat sometimes and got panic attacks very frequently. But we spoke a lot, reestablished if we wanted to be together and decided that yes we’ll work on it. I went to therapy and have been taking prescriptions (only now at times when I’m feeling particularly anxious) and I’ll say our relationship has gotten way better now. And also myself. So reading lyrics like “get your sht together so I can love you” is really weird because does that mean mentally ill people cannot be loved? That he suddenly is another person to her? Don’t know Taylor, I wouldn’t want to marry you either if this is the way you act at the first sign of trouble.

Here's the thing, I do think she loved him. Have you ever heard of the theory that famous people get emotionally stunted at the age they become famous? Because I think in the case of ts, it's a solid theory. If you hear "The Alchemy" and "So High School", the two songs written for Travis, you can see how she craves being the 'cool kid,' she wants to be the cheerleader with the footballer boyfriend. She's still acting like she's a teenager.

Going back to the theory that she was emotionally stunted in her teens, I do think she loved Joe; did she love him enough? No. She's clearly very self-obsessed, and there are times when she can be self-aware. For example, in her Instagram post, she admits that a lot of the wounds were self-inflicted. The only grace I will give her is being with someone with MH issues is hard, and it's not for everyone. But she could have left at any point. Clearly, Joe's MH got worse or had a bad spell during the end of their relationship.

If that was too much for her, she should have left. She didn't have to run into the arms of a sewer rat before their relationship was even really over. She didn't have to make out he'd wronged her, or write songs giving away details of Joe's struggle which were private.

I think ts needs to grow up.

...long story short it was a bad time, long story short I survived...

You were vaguely aware of Robin saying your name, she kept repeating it like a mantra, begging you to give any indication that you could hear her. And you did, hear her, but you couldn't answer. When you opened your mouth nothing came out, as if someone had switched off all the sound except for Robin's voice, echoing in your head. You clutched at your chest and your legs felt tangled in something as you kicked into the darkness, lurching forward and...suddenly you were in your room. 

You searched for the light switch on your lamp, a dull yellow glow emanating through the room. Glasses on and realization beginning to set in, you weren't in the upside down, Robin wasn't calling your name, it was all just a bad dream. A really terrible nightmare-of-a-dream but a dream nonetheless. No one and nothing was hunting you or your friends. On legs that felt like they could crumble at any moment, you made your way to the kitchen, passed your parents room, the living room with a solitary light on by the door, and finally to the sink where you poured a glass of water and tried to calm your nerves. Your hands were still shaking and you thought about calling to see if Robin or Nancy might be awake but the analog clock on the counter said it was three in the morning and you doubted any of your friends were actually awake right now. Their parents definitely weren't and you knew that neither household would appreciate a 3 a.m. wake up call. 

Still, the thought of facing those monsters again, whether real or imagined, alone, was too much for you to handle. With your pajamas still on, you slipped on a pair of shoes and took your coat; leaving by the kitchen door. Hawkins at night was a familiar entity but you had lost the sense of comfort you used to have in its existence. When it snowed at midnight three weeks ago you'd hesitated at the kitchen door, weighing the likelihood that something could be there in the shadows, just beyond the glistening light cast over your yard and your neighbors'. You could remember staying out as long as possible before the fall of '83, playing hide-n-go-seek or tag or some iteration of both. Now you worried walking the trash from the garage to the curb on Wednesday nights. Vecna or One or whatever it wanted to be called was gone, Hawkins had survived and most everyone had moved on from what they perceived to have happened but you remained somewhat stuck in the past. Like a scratched record that kept looping back to the same outro, never able to move on. 

The light above the back door of Steve Harrington's house flickered on and you realized you'd walked yourself all four blocks over to his street. You'd been thinking of Robin's in actuality, and then thinking of Robin had you thinking of Steve and the still somewhat unresolved conclusion to your embarrassing outburst of emotion when you'd made it out of the Upside Down alive. Kissing Steve Harrington and telling him that you loved had not been in the cards. 

"Hey."

As equally embarrassing as showing up unexpected on his back porch at three in the morning after not speaking to him for two months was, you were still happy that Steve was the one standing there on the other side of the glass sliding doors and not his mom. How would you even begin to explain to her what you were doing at her house? 

"Uh, hey," you held your hand up as if you were going to wave and then lowered it to your side again. 

Steve slid the door open, "do you want to come in or..." He looked passed you at the emptied pool and you shook your head. It was January in Hawkins and you were beginning to realize how cold you actually were. He stepped to the side and you came into his kitchen, crossing your arms in some half-hearted attempt to comfort yourself. Or maybe regroup? What were you doing here? 

"Did something happen?" 

"Not exactly..." You replied, trying to sort out both your thoughts and what had propelled you to Steve's house. Not Robin or Nancy or even Dustin but Steve. Who you swore you would never see again. Or at least never speak to again so that you couldn't further embarrass yourself in front of him. "I mean...not really. Not here, or well, here but you know...not here." You gestured awkwardly trying to sign what you couldn't say, "I had a bad dream, basically."

"Shit," he nodded like he completely understood and you were sure that he did. "Are you okay?"

"I just..." You took a breath, trying to center yourself, "It just felt real." There were tears forming at the corners of your eyes and before you could keep trying to explain the dream, Steve had pulled you into a hug, wrapping his arms around you and crushing you against the sweater he was wearing. You hugged him back, purely because you'd been denying yourself any interaction with him for the last two months and you felt relieved when he was the first to act. As if, maybe, he hadn't realized you were being distant. 

"It's not real," Steve promised, as if you might not've been sure that it was just a bad dream. It was a surprisingly reassuring sentiment. "This is real. You and me, right now. That's real."

"I know...I know it's past I just...I don't know. Sometimes I feel like I can't let myself let it go." You admitted. Despite coming through the Upside Down and Vecna with everyone, you had a tendency to close down. It was over and you could breath but when the nightmares and the bad memories resurfaced, you felt guilty for mentioning them. You didn't want anyone else to feel like you were feeling. 

"That's okay," the reply came almost as a surprise to you, like a validation of all your worries. It was okay to feel stuck, it was okay to be frozen in this time loop, and it was okay to ask for help. "Do you wanna...we could put a movie on or something, if it would take your mind off of stuff?"

"Yeah, that'd be good." You nodded.

There was an unmistakable feeling of awkwardness in the air, as though neither of you was quite sure how to act around each other. You really couldn't blame Steve for feeling uncomfortable, if he did. It was entirely possible that you were only projecting your own discomfort at being here again after such a long time and so much distance. You wanted to apologize for telling him that you loved him. Not that you didn't mean just that you didn't mean to make things so awkward between the two of you. 

Steve led the way into the den, two beige recliners dominating the small room and an entertainment center set up in front of them. You took the seat on the right, waiting to recline while you watched him scan the collection of VHS tapes his parents had. 

"What do you want to watch?"

"Something that I don't have to think to hard about," you admitted. You weren't sure you had the mental capacity for anything serious. 

"Secret of Nimh?" He asked, holding the VHS up for you, the animated mouse staring back.

"You have the Secret of Nimh?" You asked, perking up at the mention of it. 

"I have all the mouse movies," Steve joked, setting that one down a pulling out a couple more as proof. 

"The Rescuers and An American Tail?" You laughed, "I'm kinda tempted to watch them all."

"Do you want to?" 

"I shouldn't be keeping you awake," you answered, catching the time on the clock hanging above the entertainment system. You were more than positive that Steve had better things to do than entertain you all night (or morning at this point) and sleep was one of those things. 

"I don't care," he promised, "I'm glad you came here. After...you haven't really...well, I haven't seen you. I thought maybe you were avoiding me."

"Honestly?" You looked guilty as you replied, "I was."

"Ouch." 

"I don't mean like...after I, said what I said...I just thought it'd be better not to bother you." 

"Why?" Steve set the movies down and placed his hands on his hips the way he did when he was reprimanding Dustin, though in this case he looked far less stern and far more confused. 

"Because..." You gestured with your hand, trying to explain yourself with a wave of your hand instead of speaking. What could you say? "Because I...didn't think you..."

"Did you think I didn't feel the same way? That I don't feel the same way?" He asked.

"I don't expect you to."

"Well I do." 

"What?" You were the one who was confused this time, genuinely flustered as you tried to determine exactly what he was telling you. 

"When you told me you loved me, I wanted to tell you that I loved you too...I just. It just caught me off guard. I'd wanted to tell you and when you were in the Upside Down I didn't think I'd ever get to and then all the sudden you were there, in front of me and saying it and I just...reacted too slowly." Steve admitted. "I wanted to tell you, every day since, but I didn't want to push you."

"All I thought about, when I was there, was telling you. I mean, obviously I thought about getting out of there alive but also...that if I did I would tell you and I didn't care if you felt the same way. But then, when you didn't say anything, I kind of realized I did care. I didn't want to hear you say that you didn't feel the same way."

"I guess we kind of fucked up huh?" Steve laughed at the end though it seemed more him mocking himself than anything else.

"I mean, not totally." You replied, "if we both feel the same way...kind of a round about way of figuring it all out but that doesn't mean its too late or something."

"Yeah..." He agreed, glancing back at the clock himself, "but it is too late right now. You should be trying to sleep, not spending time focused on everything that happened." He moved away from the entertainment system to grab a blanket from the basket in the corner, handing it over to you. "We can talk later."

"I don't want to miss any opportunities." You admitted, taking the blanket from him. 

"You won't...we won't. I just don't want you to feel bad in the morning." He replied, leaning over and pressing a kiss to your forehead, hand gripping the armrest of your recliner, "we have time."

i'll just call myself the avoidance anon (lol) and yes, we're doing much better, thank you! I'm happy to say that, as a big FU to my (ex) dad, I am now earning three times his salary. haha

anyways, on the subject of kids, I have this scenario where my PC have always wanted to have a child (totally not me btw) but obviously that didn't happen bc of the cheating and divorce. in a game I played recently, the MC's mother had artifical insemination to have a baby. so what if our PC did that too (we better be making big bucks as a marriage councellor or i'll sue) a year or two after the divorce.

I hc my PC as someone who overworks to cope (if I can't see you, you can't see me) and kinda just... forgets to take care of themselves at some point. while spending a day-off on their favorite cafe, they happen to see a happy family walk by and after almost a week of thinking, they're on their way to get an IUI. a few months later, its confirmed that they're pregnant and affectionately call the bundle of joy, 'my miracle'. ('I lost myself but I found you, my tiny miracle')

on the night of the accident, PC asked the sweet old couple next door to babysit bc they're working late aaand... there goes the plot. at some point after the accident, the ex-spouse somehow meets the child and is curious about the father and (possibly) gets even more heartbroken realizing PC most likely went through a pregnancy alone; the morning sickness, pregnancy cravings, and the heightened emotions on top of the soreness.

ex-spouse: 'oh, what are you drawing?'

(c/n): 'ms. penny said to draw my family. this is me; I'm a prince/princess.'

ex-spouse: "oh, is this your mommy and daddy, then?"

(c/n): 'no, mommy is the fairy godmother. that's daddy and his princess.'

ex-spouse: 'your daddy and... his princess?'

(c/n): 'mmh! mommy said my real daddy left to look for his true love, and that they lived happily ever after.'

(the skit is purely for emotional damage LOLOLOL)

ex-spouse is left to be a silent observer as he watches PC put the child to sleep by singing them a lullaby (think 'never grow up' by ts) and watch them be the mother they always wanted to be, except, the spot next to them was empty (different from his imagination) and the warm, loving gaze PC used to give him was now directed at someone else.

for extra angst, i'd like to imagine the ex-spouse's parents being aware that PC had a baby and sends birthday and holiday gifts for the little one. they were even there for the baby's birth. when the ex later called his parents to ask why they didn't say anything to him about the baby, they simply said 'it was none of his business'. of course, the parents would notice PC overworking themselves, but months later, they saw small, positive change with the PC, and when they opened up they were, in fact, pregnant, they didn't want their kid to ruin the happiness PC found (again)

at this point, it just became a mini-au of an au. I'M JSUT SO EXCITED FOR THIS IF JSJAKPQXNWO

I have Tourette’s so I want to make some post on it. In this one i will be talking about TS and mobility aids

Some people with Tourette’s use mobility aids due to their tics. Some tics that may cause someone to use a mobility aid may be; head shaking, kicking, knee bending, jumping, spinning, and more.

Not everyone with TS will use mobility aids, not even everyone with those tics, but those who do may use different mobility aids for different days like they may use a cane one day, a forearm crutches the next, none the next.

Some people with Tourette’s may also use mobility aids due to comorbid disabilities or injuries that could be caused by tics or not

apparently a certain kpop boy, asked by a tv show host (?) about “chubby people”, said “you need to stop eating”. there was something about loving yourself after that, a wonderful deflection, but nonetheless that’s what he chose to start with, it seems. and he ended it with “loving yourself” as well, but before that he apparently said “if you love yourself and you’re skinny, you’ll work out to be healthy. if you love yourself and are chubby, you’ll lose weight to be healthy”.

i’m saying apparently because the state of translations in kpop fandoms is miserable, so Who Knows. i’ve seen many a tweet insisting that’s a “mistranslation”, and many a thread offering “correct translation” that nonetheless say the same thing. there was also another thread talking about how a part of this speech was comedic exaggeration, and the latter part was “inspirational advice”. so if it’s all a bit, people are indeed panicking for nothing, because if he’s making an ironic commentary on what society would tell people, then what he says isn’t necessarily what he believes.

that being said: why the fuck are we asking kpop idols about their opinions on chubby people. or in general celebrities. i mean -- this is not to say that all of them share this mindset because there are celebs who say “yeah if you’re fat and love eating you don’t have to do diets! do what you love! your own happiness is important!”. but have we seen what the industry looks like. have we seen how netizens react to celebs who have even a sliver of fat on their bodies. haven’t we heard all about horrible diets, idols paying for their food with their own money as trainees, idols sneaking out to buy food or hiding their snacks in their pillows so that they’d have anything to eat? haven’t we seen idols apologize for their perfect faces because “ough i ate ramyeon and i’m sooo bloated right now”?

apologies but these people Do Not have the hashtag Qualifications to talk about this shit. these people are Not on your level of reality. and it’s really easy to figure out, because for fuck’s sake, if someone who knows it’s possible and GOOD to love yourself whatever size you are, who knows it’s stupid and pointless to starve yourself to death to uphold an absurd beauty standard and for what? for netizens to nod with approval and/or whine that they envy your thigh gap? if someone with these opinions was in this business, they wouldn’t last a month. because it would be against everything they believe in. because they’d be waking up every morning aware that what they’re doing is pointless, stupid and harmful to themselves.

why are we asking people who are skinny for a living for advice to chubby people!!!

at the same time i feel like we should probably realize that idols/celebs are their own people and they might have shitty/dumbass ideas or opinions. people need to learn to produce A Dream Version Of X in their heads and focus on THAT rather on the real person. you’re never meeting them anyway, you’re never going to have a meaningful relationship, so just make use of that and treat them like a fictional character in your head, or a character played by real person the actor. foolproof plan! are they doing n/f/ts? no they aren’t! are they dating someone? in your head no they’re not! are they a bastard who talks shit about their fans and throws out their gifts, oops forgot to turn off the livestream and now everyone’s heard? (true story.) well that’s hilarious but also through horniness and the power of headcanons everything is possible so jot that down.

it’s just... like i understand it SUCKS BALLS to know your blorbo from the real life would hate you, or think you should fix yourself because you’re Ugly, or that they’re making fun of your culture, but i think it’s really important to also... just... have a defense wall, so that your fave potentially turning out to be an asshole doesn’t destroy you emotionally. because what is that kpop boy supposed to do now? apologize and promise to reflect? but that would be the biggest hypocrisy of them all. We Live In A Society and kpop people live there in particular, and it just feels pathetic to issue an apology to everyone offended, promise you’ll rethink your Bad Opinions and then go back to your job that REQUIRES you to be under a certain weight, otherwise you’re Gross and Fat. that just doesn’t make sense. and so it’s a bit funny for me to see people talk about how “kpopboy is fatphobic” i mean yeah he’s an adult man with his own brain but at the same time he’s a product of his environment and job. the Entire Fucking Industry is fatphobic. demanding one man to apologize for what everyone’s thinking, for what everyone has to adhere to, is a bit silly imo. and it’s a bit heartbreaking to see all those shocked and hurt people because... yeah, that’s not quite how it works.

Curious and autistic-coded

Hello there! April draws to an end and with that I think it’s high time to hurry up and write this. What does April have to do with anything, you ask? April is the Autism Acceptance Month. So what better month to do this?

Unfortunately I didn’t make it. I failed. It’s already 1. 5. when I’m posting this. But at least I tried to deliver on time.

In this mini essay I’ll present my case about why I think the Curious brothers from TS2 Strangetown display autistic-coded traits and my personal takes on it.

It’s basically your average headcanon post but with a funny top hat!

0: Preface: What do I mean by “autistic-coded”?

When a character is coded as something, it means that they have traits that are associated with the demographics in question to make the consumer knowingly or not link the character with the demographic, although the character's "label” is never explicitly disclosed.

In the nutshell, it means that there are canonical reasons to read the characters as autistic, although you won't find the word "autism" anywhere in the game nor in the developer's commentary.

In this particular case I do believe that the developer may not even be aware of the code, as there is no evidence to suggest otherwise. If there is, I’m not aware of it and I would be happy to learn.

So, let’s start!

1: “The white male who is very good at science”

Unfortunately autistic representation in pop-culture has a long history of being rather straightforward in which traits the characters often have. This stems from the belief that autism is “a boy’s disorder” (that’s why some autism charities to this day use blue in their symbols). Among popular examples of autistic-coded characters are Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper and Death Note’s L and Near. I’m sure you can think of more but you’ll find that most of them are men and either explicitly white or racially ambiguous white-passing. They also tend to be gifted in tech, logic or other science-y activities.

There’s nothing wrong with that! Nothing wrong with being an autistic with those “stereotypical” characteristics and there is nothing wrong with people being represented. What is wrong is the monotony and afab people/people of color being underrepresented which leads (among other factors) to harder access to diagnosis and resources for those people in real life. But! That’s a topic for a different day. (and not for a simbrl, mind you)

Back to the Curiouses! I just wanted to say that autism in media is traditionally associated with characters whose gender presentation, race and interests align with theirs. Those characteristic thus make a very convenient template for autistic-coding.

2: Inconsistent performance, huge gaps between strengths and weaknesses

Pascal, Vidcund and Lazlo are very skilled Sims by default, extraordinarily even for their age. Pascal has a skill maxed while his younger brothers both near maxing theirs.

But as you can see in Pascal’s default skill panel, apart from Creativity, all his other skills are extremely low, 0 points for Mechanical, Body and Charisma, 1 point for Cooking and Logic and his second best skill, Cleaning, has only 3 points. The same situation can be observed in Vidcund’s and Lazlo’s, except their strong suits are Logic and Cooking respectively.

Huge discrepancies within performance in different cognitive areas is a common trait found in those on the autism spectrum. We’re often talking extremes here and the scale of the difference is the defining factor. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, it’s just in neurodivergent people those tend to be unusually noticeable.

I think that skills, simplified as they are, are the closest The Sims has to possibly simulate that because they track the character’s performance and expertise in different areas and allow comparison. In real life, of course, this comparison is not nearly as possible and exact, nor desired, but for all our analysis-loving enthusiasm, here we’re still talking fictional characters.

3: Struggle with social cues

It is widely known that one of autistic traits are difficulties with processing social situations, picking social cues and successfully replicating socially desired behavioral patterns.

But these three are Sims, are they not? They cannot possibly display this trait, since they’re programmed the same way as others.

Yes and no.

It is true that there is no specific in-game feature that would allow Sims to behave with explicit neurodivergency in mind* but with the right combination of traits they can simulate behavior that really hits close to home for neurodivergent players.

*at least not in TS2, TS3 has traits that simulate some possible neurodivergencies but their names tend to be rather... ableist unfortunate and they’re not relevant to this post since they’re not autism related, and even if they were, we’re focusing on TS2 exclusively

Let’s take look at Lazlo here. He is, indeed, a playful soul. He likes to goof around, tell jokes, make others laugh. And since he’s very close to his brother Vidcund, close enough even to Tell Dirty Joke (an interaction that needs quite a high relationship to unlock), he autonomously does just that.

And oh boy, does Vidcund disapprove.

From my personal experience playing them, their relationship usually takes quite a hit from every cheeky joke Lazlo throws Vid’s way. They usually autonomously repair it very quick but it happens often.

But that’s a standard behavior. Vidcund’s very serious, he doesn’t take well to jokes.

No. I mean technically yes, Vid is definitely a grumpy old plant dad but, at least in my game, he tends to accept Lazlo’s jokes. All kinds of them, actually, except for the dirty ones. And Pascal, who technically has even lower Playful points (0 in comparison to Vidcund’s 4), doesn’t seem to mind Lazlo’s poor attempts at grown-up humor.

But! What is it that makes Lazlo try still? What drives him to attempt to make Vidcund laugh with a dirty joke over and over again? (and fail?)

I my interpretation, Lazlo doesn’t do that on purpose, he is just really poor at evaluating “dirtiness” of a given joke and frequently misinterprets Vidcund’s cues. The animation of a dirty joke being rejected even supports that as Vid doesn’t signal his discomfort with any exaggerated easy-to-read facial expression until Lazlo gets to his punchline.

No only that but as I mentioned, the invisible lines between spicy and too vulgar are often hard to thread. I can recall many times I thought I was saying a witty quip on an “adult” topic and was met with awkward silence or someone shushing me because “that’s not how you speak in public”. I can well imagine myself in Lazlo’s shoes.

A situation of social cues being misinterpreted or ignored can be observed also in Vidcund. Programming-wise, those are just his low Niceness and extreme Shyness showing but combined they again paint a picture of a very neurodivergent-looking behavioral pattern.

He often behaves like the concept of politeness or social rules doesn’t exist because the combination of the aforementioned traits makes him come off very blunt (lecturing and shoving telescope-peepers with no warning whatsoever) and distant (having a high chance of rejecting simple small-talk socials).

Yes, I am fully aware that it makes a stronger case for him being an a**hole than autistic but... there’s no reason he can’t be both. Not all autistic people are sweet cinnamon buns, all personalities you can think of can be neurodiverse and, for some their neurodiversity can even amplify their inconsiderate ways, as I believe it is the case with our dear grouch Vidcund.

4. Their bios

Both Pascal’s and Vidcund’s bios point to a pattern-focused worldview with a strong emphasis on rationality as the center-point that anchors the way they understand the world around them and build their principles on. This “pattern-ization” of thinking is a common autistic trait, with rationality being a popular theme because emotions tend to be difficult to access and asses for many of us.

Lazlo’s biography is an outlier. But it still has something significant in common with those of his brothers: All three of their bios allude to a potential special interest of sorts.

Special interests as an autism-related term are very specific, in-depth and long-term hobbies or areas of expertise that make an autistic person happy and they tend to go to seemingly exhausting lengths, often at the cost of other areas of knowledge and most likely the person’s ability to talk about anything else for a long enough time. (a loving hyperbole, no disrespect meant) Mine are my characters and cats. An even more intense but a short(er)-term passion is called a hyperfixation.

Them potentially having a special interest is yet another possible autistic-coded feature.

5. Wait. Why does it matter?

Right. What does it matter if a Sim (A SIM) (or two or three) is autistic? What do I hope to achieve, pushing my autistic Curiouses agenda down your throats?

I got to write a long rant-piece about some of my favorite TS characters and I feel like I can finally die satisfied.

Apart from that and me sharing my happiness of finding some good pixels I can relate to, it is a matter of representation.

Remember by the very beginning I wrote how most of the representation our community gets in media tends to be just a one specific type of character?

And how the Curious brothers seem to fit the stereotype to a point?

There is something I omitted, something I saved for the last on purpose.

The role. The role in their story, the role in the society the piece of media portrays.

We often see neurodiverse, autistic or autistic-coded character as children, students, villains, lone savants, victims in distress, comedic relief sidekicks, either very vulnerable and needing protection, or detached and having their role defined only by their academic prowess or their special interest/profession.

What we rarely get to see them as, are... parents.

That’s what many of us autistics are or plan to be someday in the future. The dogma around autism has started to dwindle relatively recently and there are little to no examples of autistic adults being the care-givers for once in the media around us.

The Curious brothers are just that. They are chaotic, they are eccentric, they can be a little too much... but they are dutiful and loving fathers/uncles to their little aliens they raise.

They make it work. Even if they face difficulties, even if they don’t exactly fit the standard.

It encourages us to define family by love rather than traditional structures and it shows us that portrait of a functional neurodiverse family we need to see.

And goodness, is it a powerful sight.

Okay anyways hi I’m back after like, months lol, sorry about that (but I’m not actually back because I’m busy trying not to die because of school-work and trying to work on some MAP parts. I literally said five days ago on my yt channel “Hi I’m back now!! :-D” and school just said “no <3″ which, um, rude. So yeah I might come on and occasionally come post something but I’m really not gonna be coming on here to be active

OKAY OKAY but I need to explain these sketches because they will be suuuper confusing without context, I am very aware, yes, so there’s an explanation (+ some extra art and a non-shaded version of the stuff above) under the cut :-)

BASICALLY, @lulzyrobot​ made this AU of Pokémon Sword and Shield and now I have brain rot because of it. Also this AU will indeed be confusing to those who have no knowledge about sword and shield so here’s a skippable paragraph about the game:

(OBVIOUSLY SPOILERS BELOW)

Basically, SwSh is just a Pokémon game (no surprise there) and its gimmick or whatever is Dynamax, which turns Pokémon like. Really fucking large. (Some of them can also Gigantamax which changes their appearance as well as size, but we don’t care about that here bc it really isn’t relevant). In all gyms (except one, Spikemouth) there are power spots, which are needed for a Pokémon to Dynamax. If they’re not close to a power spot, they can’t do it. There are also power spots in the Wild Area (which is, you guessed it, an area in the game). At one point in the game, the villain -- Chairman Rose -- starts up something called “the Darkest Day”, which happened before in the Galarian region (which is where everything takes place), in hopes of getting infinite energy for them or something like that (really makes no sense but like ok pop off ig). To do this, he basically uses these things called Wishing Stars -- which are what allows Pokémon to Dynamax -- to summon a Pokémon called Eternatus. In-game, you basically just summon two other legendaries (Zacian and Zamazenta -- they’re on the cover of the games) and fight Eternatus and then catch the fucker. That’s all context you need for this AU so let’s move on to that now:

The AU is basically that Eternatus sends out a powerful blast which fuses trainers with Pokémon, to varying degrees. The closer to a power spot you are, the more likely you are to get it bad. If you’re far enough from one you won’t be affected at all. A person can merge with multiple Pokémon, but the more of them, the harder it is to not go wild. If you merge with a wild Pokémon, you’ll become a Wild Trainer (and those basically act like, well, wild Pokémon).

OKAY ANYWAY, back onto this specific sketch (wow I really went on a rampage there lol)

I decided to Dynamorph my trainersona(??????) (btw, both the Dynamorph version AND the “human” version are WIPs, I’m not completely happy with either of them) and this was the resuulltttt

- Their name is Robin (because I’m a bastard that does self-insert ships with no shame)

- They merged with their Arcanine (and I’m considering also adding a wild Lycanroc, both so I can give them Epic Claws™ and so that their whole extremely volatile nature makes any sense)

- They have some REAL trouble keeping themself in check. Like. They’re constantly on the edge between becoming a Wild Trainer and being “normal”

- Because I am, like I said, a bastard who does self-ships without any shame they are together with Piers. yes I am a simp for him. 

- Robin has their select group of friends (made up of all gym leaders minus Opal because they have no idea what the fuck is up with her, as well as Marnie, Hop and Leon. No they don’t give a shit about Bede) which they are super protective of. They have to be reminded that they can all handle themselves, because they might otherwise become a bit possessive.

- While they are a raging storm you do NOT want to get involved with in any way to anybody outside their friend group, they are really nice to be around when they really care about you. They may be pretty stubborn, but they always do what they think is best for their loved ones. On multiple occasions, they’ve gone out to collect any sorts of gifts they can find that they think their friends will enjoy. They are super gentle and kind with Hop and Marnie (which, by the way, they’d literally die for either of them) and they’re overall a good friend/partner. Their main flaw here is their temperament and somewhat possessive nature.

- If anybody did something to even moderately hurt any of their friends... hoo boy, you do NOT want to do that. They’ve nearly killed people for leaving so much as a scratch on their loved ones, and have to be physically dragged away so they won’t really kill somebody. 

- However. Despite really, truly believing they'd never, under ANY circumstances, hurt ANY of their friends... they’re wrong about that. The only ones they could truly never purposely cause harm to would be Piers, Marnie and Hop. Yes, it would take A LOT for them to hurt any of the others (like, they’d only hurt the others if they tried to, idk, kill them or something. Or if they tried or actually did kill somebody else in their close circle) but it could hypothetically happen.

- If they ever were to see Rose, he’d probably be torn to shreds on sight. Literally nothing would be able to stop them. 

- While it’s near impossible for anybody they don’t care about to calm them down, it’s pretty easy for especially Hop, Marnie, Piers, Raihan, Leon and Milo (and the others, but less so for them lol). 

- They were right by a power spot, like they were about to step into a den, when the blast happened so they were. Really fucking affected by it. They stayed in the Wild Area for a while after that, searching for their Arcanine who had “mysteriously vanished”, before they transformed. They were basically a Wild Trainer for at least a month before Piers found them and managed to get them to remember who they actually were over the course of two days. It was,, really concerning when they’d at first been texting him pretty much non-stop to update him on what was going on with them just to then go radio silent for a few days, especially since people had begun transforming at that point. Haha angst go brrr

- You must ignore how their clothes still kind of fit despite them growing to be both more ~muscular~ and tall and how it’s not dirty for the sake of my convenience ok

The one with Milo is Robin just. Being near him. After probably having some sort of panic or anxiety attack because they’re worried about everyone. Because Milo is a really calming person to be around.

Top one in the middle is Robin just patting the red eye-lens-things Raihan got from his Flygon because they find it to be Very Entertaining to just pat them for no reason at all.

The ones where they’re hugging Marnie would take place right after they come back to Spikemouth after their month(s) as a Wild Trainer. They still weren’t used to being around people (and much less BEHAVING like a PERSON) so they were pretty awkward about Marnie hugging them.

The one where they’re surrounded by darkness to the right and kneeling forward is them in the middle of their “transformation” after the blast happened.

Rin is an absolute sweetheart. Like, hands-down the best boyfriend you could ask for. He may be a little clueless from time-to-time, but this guy does his damnedest to show you he loves you.

For instance, if you’re on your period he’d be a little confused why all the sudden you turned into a devil in the shape of his girlfriend. Normal things he would do or jokes he made just seemed to aggravate you. This would lead him to just storming off, confused as to what had gotten into you. He’d confide in Yukio for help on what to do. It’s at this point, thanks to his brother, he realizes what’s going on. To make up for it plans on surprising you with some home-made sweets and a stuffed animal. At the time, he was new to all this stuff. So, he was a little caught off guard.

However, now he’s able to pick up on it and will instantly surprise you with little goodies and cuddles because he’s aware of just how miserable that time of the month can be for you.

One of your favorite things to do with Rin is cuddle with him on the couch as ya’ll watch movies. Now Rin’s up to watch anything, but more often than not you guys end up watching some horror movie, which isn’t exactly Rin’s favorite. At all. Truth is Rin actually scares pretty easily. It’s a bit funny really. Him being the son of Satan and all. Nonetheless, he’ll just sit there with you leaning up against his chest trying his darndest not to show just how terrified he actually is.

So, why would he watch horror movies if he doesn’t like them? He knows you wouldn’t mind watching something else, but he just likes seeing you happy. So, if gripping you tight every time a jump-scare happens is what has to happen, then so be it. To be honest, that’s why you always choose horror movies. You love how the more scared he gets the more he clings onto you. Lol.

You tend to hangout in his dorm while he’s studying. You’ll be lounging across his bed, listening to music (Headphones in, of course. You don’t want to distract Rin from his studies because Lord knows this boy gets distracted easily.), either drawing/writing/reading. Overall, just vibing out as he’s hunched over the desk studying. In these moments ya’ll don’t talk, but simply just enjoy the company of one another. To be honest, having you around actually helps him focus more.

On the weekends, the two of you tend to head out into town. Neither of you ever really have any destination in mind. You guys mainly just end up walking and talking enjoying the sights and sounds of the city around you. Occasionally, you guys come across some cool places like a specialty cafe (cat cafe, anyone?), arcade, or a nice little park. Just some mini adventures that end up holding really special memories for the two of you.

The two of you are sarcastic little sh*ts, especially toward each other. However, you reign supreme everytime. Rin has nothing on you. Your comedic timing is flawless and your comebacks are *Mwah* magnifique. Hell, you even get Ryuiji and Yukio to bust out laughing. Meanwhile, you’re just standing there like...

While Rin gets a bit flustered when it comes to interacting with girls, I feel when in a relationship Rin isn’t shy to touch his S/O.

The way your curves feel in his hands drives him wild. So, you can just imagine he’d always find a way to touch you in some way throughout the day.

When he’s kissing you his hands will wander. He’ll start off with grabbing your face, pulling you into a kiss, and making his way down feeling you up until he makes it to your butt.

His favorite kisses are wall kisses. He especially loves it when you end up wrapping your legs around his waist. That way he’s able to grip your thick thighs as he presses you up against the wall further.

Kisses with him are very passionate. Bite, his lip and he’ll be a goner. ;)

However, he does love to give you forehead kisses when ya’ll are out in public. He saves the passionate ones for when the two of you are alone.

Rin loves hugs.

Now while he definitely is not afraid to initiate one he absolutely loves it when you hug him first. Baby boy, will turn into a blushing mess. He just can’t get over the fact that someone as cute as you loves him.

Now Rin does tend to get lost in his thoughts from time to time and can get a little down. In times like this he looks to you to be his rock. All he wants in these moments is to just hug you. Don’t try to push him away during these times. Just pull him in close and hug him tight.

Overall, the two of you just have a very sweet and fun relationship that, honestly, most people are jealous of.

Speaking of jealousy...Rin gets jealous easily. Lol. He gets very pouty when he’s jealous. Hey, Ame! Where’s my hug...What’s so special about that baka?...I can do that too. *whispers* I just don’t want to. He’s adorable when he’s jealous.

That and sometimes when you and Rin get to talking ya’ll get a little too animated. Because of this Yukio has to make sure to separate ya’ll in class and on certain missions. Otherwise, work might not get done and besides things are just quieter that way. Lol.

It’s not unusual for others to see Rin looking at you like this:

Thank you for what you said about being disappointed in the fandom and not in VM. I came to follow you through the VM fandom and I do remember you clearly drawing a line when the shipper/anti discussion got to be overwhelming. I respect that so much. I loved them as performers and as a team, and I have always believed them when they clearly said they were not a couple. I also believe they have now each forged paths that fit them and that were 100% what I would have expected given what they expressed interest in over the years.

How did you know when to step back? While I wasn’t a shipper, I mistakenly thought that the shipper discourse was all in good fun and hung around far too long. During that time, and especially around the WOF events, it felt like nearly every VM blog (even the normally neutral ones) had drunk the shipper Kool Aid and was taking sides between VM. I really can’t look at any of those blogs with any respect, to say nothing of the truly vile people who continue to propagate lies about VM to this day. So I’m now also very bitter at the fandom, because it put a darkness over the last year we got to see VM be a skating team, and we won’t get that time back.

I don't think I knew when to step back, I stepped back too late tbh. For a long time I tried to fight what was done to them because it was just such injustice in my eyes and in my character I find it hard not to fight for what I believe even when it costs me. I'm putting this under a keep reading since it turned out long.

I think my experience was different for many reasons, I wasn't on tumblr before TS, I didn't know what a fandom is and was never part of one, didn't even know what shipping was. So coming here in 2014 and lurking until I joined fully was a strange experience. And that's partly why I was a part of it but also always an outsider, I didn't have group chats or was a part of some clique. At times I chatted with other blogs but it was mostly impersonal. That's also why I was a very low-key shipper in some ways but I was also much more realistic in terms of what it actually means and what I expect from them (nothing at all btw, shipping them was always on me, not on them, it was my decision and they owed me nothing).

The thing with the TS fandom is that it was toxic from the start and I was completely aware of it. One of my first ever posts was me publicly calling out another blogger for being a bully, it wasn't even done to start a fight or anything, I just didn't know what the decorum was around here... But it was well deserved and only escalated from there. The fandom basically turned people into monsters in my eyes - people were bullies, harassing others, belittling them. Every time a blogger would come out and share a personal experience like TS helping them deal with personal heartbreak - those "monsters" would drag them both anonymously and publicly. And while it drove me crazy to watch it, what made it worse is that most people were reluctant to stand up against it. And this was when the fandom was way smaller than it became in 2018.

During 2016-2018 before they went viral the fandom still had many low points, they'd start a rumor about every person TS were seen talking to, every photoshoot Tessa did made people question her motivation and commitment to skating and made them angry at Scott for not trying enough, every skating related decision was questioned and they were announced as DOOMED about once a week. It was a time where the fandom will have a meltdown about once a month over the dumbest things ever. And yet at that time, it was still worth being around. The good outweighs the bad.

But it stopped being the case in 2018. I was so happy they went viral but the new batch of fans made things a lot worse. They came in knowing nothing and completely fell for the "monsters" that were always around, they needed the entertainment and they didn't care about the consequences of their actions. Some of them came from other fandoms and didn't realize that what you can do when shipping two movie stars, can't be done when it's two Canadian athletes who are much more accessible and way less prepared to deal with the insanity. It became a circus and TS were the opening act, there to either behave as the masses pleases or fall apart in front of them for entertainment purposes. Everything was fair game to those people, their private lives, their reputation, their families, their integrity, it was all a big game.

So even when it was fun I knew it won't last. There were too many people around that I knew in my heart were horrible people, I think about a month after the Olympics I started blocking accounts who were determined to make stuff up or those trying to "educate" new fans by telling them complete fabrications while still abusing the old bloggers that were around. But I was also getting to know new blogs and while some are still around and are totally great, most were either awful from the start or die-hard shippers who were bound to turn on TS once it will get out that they aren't a couple. And then all the rumors about TS being stalked started going around and things became way too much for me.

And I think I knew that it will be a shit show around here when it will come out that they are not a couple, but even I couldn't have imagined the level people were stoop to. The complete insanity that went down reached the media, other skaters were asked to comment about nasty rumors about them, they and their loved ones were cyberbullied.

I think the time I knew I have to make a complete purge to my timeline both here and on twitter was when someone tagged Scott's girlfriend's old husband in a tweet asking him to get her away by taking her back while attaching legal documents from their divorce papers. That was so demented that I knew I don't want to even be associated with those kinds of people. And there are tons of other horrible things that were done, it's just too infuriating to name more of them.

But the one consistent thing in this fandom was that a big part of it will always try to ruin the happy moments: Their first ACI - some tried to make up some guy Tessa is supposedly dating and was there, first SCI - they couldn't even beat C/B in the FD, a small error at 4CC SD - they are falling apart, a stumble at worlds - they won't be allowed to win the Olympics, they choose MR - it's a warhorse and the judges will laugh at them, the entire 2017/18 - they are doomed, touring Japan - they are a couple but are fighting just look at their body language, thank you Ilderton - can't even look at each other. I can legit keep this going for days.

About 95% of TS fandom is the absolute worse, always have been and always will be, and when anyone come across those "nice" fans who interact with Tessa on Instagram or are part of fs twitter - keep in mind most of those people behaved like horrible human beings, not only to TS but to other fans as well. Jul 5th - The day after the party, when all the guests post their photos online.

Britany posts a photo of her & Ben, Blake & Ryan, and Taylor & Tom. (x) The internet has a field day with Ryan's unimpressed facial expression. (x) (Ryan later says that it's just his resting bitch face as he wasn't aware a photo was being taken. (x))

In hindsight, knowing how Taylor and Joe play lots of Scrabble together including online Scrabble aka Words With Friends, and how they stayed in touch largely via texting that summer, it’s very possible she was playing against Joe.

Taylor and Tom arrive in Sydney, where Tom is about to start filming for Thor: Ragnarok. (x) Aussie media, including daytime TV, goes nuts over Hiddleswift's arrival in the country. (x)

Flying from LA to Australia involves crossing the international dateline, so they would have left the US on the 6th July local time and arrived in Sydney approx 15 hours later on the 8th July local time.

Calvin's new song Olé, written for John Newman, is released. There is speculation that it's a Hiddleswift song, written from Tom's perspective and containing lyrics implying that Taylor cheated on Calvin with Tom. However, sources also told multiple outlets that the song was written and recorded months earlier, and its supposed links to Hiddleswift were just for publicity. (x) (x)

Jul 10th - Taylor and Tom go out for dinner to Gemelli Italian restaurant in Broadbeach on Australia's Gold Coast. (x)

Jul 13th - Us Weekly makes a wild claim that Tom is planning to propose soon, and Taylor is going to say yes. The magazine cover also claims they're already talking about babies. (x)

TMZ claims that Taylor wrote TIWYCF, and that Calvin disrespecting Taylor following its release was the reason for their breakup. (x)

Taylor Swift really is the creative brains behind Calvin Harris' monster hit "This is What You Came For," and their relationship fell apart because he disrespected her when the song was released ... this according to sources connected with Taylor.

It's a fascinating story. We've learned an early fan rumor about the song is true, but to a deeper extent than anyone suspected. During their relationship, Taylor wrote the song, sat down at a piano and did a demo into her iPhone. She sent it to Calvin, who loved it. They both went into a studio and did a full demo with Taylor on vocals and Calvin doing the beat.

They both knew the song would be a hit, but Taylor wrote it for Calvin and both agreed it was a bad idea to let the world know they collaborated as a couple ... it would overshadow the song.

So Taylor, who kept the publishing rights, used the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg on the credits.

The problem in the relationship came the day the song was released. Calvin appeared on Ryan Seacrest's radio show and Ryan asked, "Will you do a collaboration with your girlfriend?" Calvin responded, "You know we haven't even spoken about it. I can't see it happening though."

We're told Taylor was hurt and felt Calvin took it too far.

It was a quick downward spiral from that point. One source called it "the breaking point in the relationship." The Met Gala was several days later, when Taylor danced with Tom Hiddleston.

Jul 17th - Kim posts an edited recording of Kanye and Taylor's phone call. In it, they discuss the 'I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex' line and Taylor says, 'Go with whatever line you think is better. It’s obviously very tongue in cheek either way. And I really appreciate you telling me about it. That’s really nice.' However, nowhere in the Snapchat video does Kanye consult her about the line, 'I made that bitch famous,' which is the line Taylor insisted she had never approved. Number 15

Just wanted to update everyone, I'm out of surgery and doing well! I'm up and walking and the surgeons have been so very kind.

I know the whole "don't talk about yourself on the internet" rule, but I hope that my story can help inspire others to be kind and considerate. I never want anyone else to go through what I did.

This one is pretty long, you do not have to read it all. The last paragraph is the most important.

I was diagnosed with Scoliosis back in the summer of 2017. I had just moved back to my small conservative hometown in the middle of Texas, but before that I'd lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for almost 8 years. I bet you could guess there was a bit of a culture shock there.

Since I was new, I had to have a full physical to join the rest of the students in 7th grade. It was the doctor there that gave me the initial diagnoses.

For those of you who don't know, Scoliosis is a deformation of the vertebrae and spine. You can be born with it or it can appear suddenly.

I was not born with it. We still have no idea what caused it either. I'm pretty sure I had had it for a while, because I had struggled with migraines and back pain since I was in 3rd grade. But no one had believed me, at the time. It took 4 years of pain before I even got the diagnosis.

It took months to get an x-ray scheduled and it was almost a two hour drive to get to the specialist. I was told there that I had two curves; one up near my shoulder, and one down near my hips. Both of the curves were severe enough that I was immediately warned about a possible need surgery and was prescribed a back brace.

The back brace was probably one of the most painful things in my life, both emotionally and physically. The brace was tight and restricted most of my movement. I had to wear undergarments, an undershirt, the brace itself and an over-shirt everyday in the middle of Texas. 18 hours a day too. It would have been decent enough to real with if not for my peers. They would go out of their way to mock how I leaned or the way that I stood. I couldn't wear jeans for a while because the metal would leave bruises in my skin from where the brace but the most pressure, and my classmates loved to point that out.

Some of my most vivid memories are from my classmates making fun of me. Like;

When the school nurse had to chack everyone in the school for it, since it is a quite common condition. The whole class turned to my and snickered. "I bet we'd know if we were freaks like them,"! They told me. The jokes lasted for weeks.

When some kids figured out which desk was mine for 4th period and placed several pieces of gum on the exact side of the chair that the side of my brace hung off of.

This one athletic dude in my class asked if I was too poor to get the surgery or if I just preferred looking like a freak. His family was rich too the point where he and his 6 siblings could afford to go to any school they wanted, not including the price of their house and yacht.

A bit of explanation is needed for this one; I used to stand with one foot pressed against the opposite knee so that some of the pressure from the foam was off my back. The foam would make it difficult to breathe sometimes so I would also move the chest plate forward every once in a while so that I could breathe. This wasn't usually a problem unless I had been standing still for a while. I had been standing for 30 minutes, way longer than what was comfortable for me. One of the guys in my class notice how I was standing, and moved to stand behind me. He spent the next 15 minutes pretending to 'subtly' copy my movements and eventually the whole class was laughing at me.

I was told in June 2019 that I no longer had to wear the brace. It had been ineffective and the curves were both already over 50°. I also was made aware that we were moving to a bigger city and when I tell you that I had never been so happy to move in my life, I mean it from the bottom of my soul.

I managed to make it through 9th and 10th grade. At that point my back hurt badly enough that I had to use a rolling backpack most days. My school does not have lockers, so this is where the bullying got worse. I'm not going to go into detail with these.

People went out of their way to kick my bag. Several of my pride pins on my bag were broken or destroyed entirely. Eventually it got to the point where my friends would carry my bag for me, because people were starting to damage the expensive art supplies that I wasn't always able to hold separately.

People would stare at my uneven shoulders and whisper.

I have a non-binary pin on my bag, and with my comfy clothes I guess I confuse people. Several freshman have decided to entertain themselves by throwing slurs at my partner and I. It got so bad that I moved it off my backpack to my purse.

I'd like to continue this later if any of you are interested. Mostly I just wanted to thank anyone who is kind unconditionally. I want to thank those who stop bullying or teasing. I want to thank the people who would stop and wait patiently outside a public restroom stall because they can hear a child in there crying, and struggling to put on a brace by themselves for the first time. I want to thank the old lady at the Farmers Market when I was in 8th grade, she not only watched my brace and bag because it was 90°F and she could tell that I was missing hanging out with my friends, but helped me make sure that my shirt wasn't caught on the Velcro before I left. I want to thank my friends who defended me when someone would talk about me behind my back, and who were always there to assure me that I was still desirable and loved even if I didn't think I was worth it

To all of the people who helped me, who inspired me, and you cared for me. I owe you all everything. Thank you so much.
