Thoughts of Miguel O’Hara via ATSV Script

First off. Wow.

TLDR: I love Miguel STILL. Just not how he was originally protrayed in the script.

Within the script, there was a crazy amount of implications of him being some feral beast, words like “animal” and “prey” were used to further push that sort or characteristic onto him. I’ve looked around on X and saw how many people had a distaste for that and I am on the same boat. However, I’ll give where credits due and applaud the artists and Oscar Issacs himself for executing him way better than the script did. (Maybe the script was written in a way as some sort of gag. I mean hello, code name was WAM (WACK A MOLE). id poke jabs too.)

From what could be seen on the screen, what I see, was a broken man with tons of dedication towards his cause, keeping up with status quo by any means necessary. The tense exchange Miguel had with Miles in the Train sequence, I began to think Miguel saw himself in Miles, degrading and telling himself to not make the same mistake like before. Maybe I’m looking in it too deeply, but yk. However, if you only read the script, you’d think I’d be crazy. He was made out to be someone who is cold, inhumane, and absolutely unhinged. Something I’d never think about towards him after watching the movie. (Apart from him actually going on all fours occasionally. bro was desperate…)

It’s a little bananas how he was written, but my love for him as seen in the MOVIE did not waver at all because… why would it? I loved the movie and everything that came from it, I’m not gonna let a script just wipe away everything I like about him LOL.

I just hope they gave him some mercy in the BTSV script. (i severely doubt it 😭)

Anyone who wonders if animals have enough intelligence to understand, think like, and have a similar emotional capacity to humans needs to come to my house, where my fiance's hamster has literally begun doing demonstrations of how to feed her because she's upset that we realized she was hoarding food in her bedding and stopped feeding her as frequently, one of my cats steals only my things and hides them in a closet because she's mad that I won't let her into my bedroom (she literally jumps right onto the table with all my plants and fully lit candles) and has been confirmed to only act up when I'm around, and my other cat who literally mimicks human behavior to the point that she now has a designated chair because she saw one of us sit in it and decided that it's where she sits now.

I am sos for a shiny misdreavus and let me tell you… dont do it in usum

If you want to do it in usum you need to have a plan for perish song because otherwise the pokemon will kill itself in 3 turns. For this I used the following set up

- start with bisharp holding a smoke ball (because fucker only spawns 10% of the time)

- taunt to avoid perish song

- swap to alolan exeggutor (I dont have a trenant with harvest :( )

- use skill swap, taunt wears off

- change to bisharp and pray it doesnt perish song

- taunt again

- swap to dhelmise

- use switcheroo to give leppa berry, taunts wears off

- change to bisharp and pray it doesnt perish song (again)

- taunt again again

- swap to mamoswine

- use odor sleuth, taunt wears off

- change to bisharp and pray it doesnt perish song (again again)

- taunt again again again

- use false swipe (I needed to use it twice because of a low roll)

- use taunt again again again again

- switch to mismagius with imprision and perish song (I needed to breed for this dude) (I know about smeargle but I doubt it can take enough power gems while also one shooting the misdreavus and honestly I think the breeding was worth it cause I can use mismagius for Lapras)

- use imprison and I am free to use adrenaline orb and let the hunt begin

All of that while praying to not have an sos encounter and use perish song (it happened twice before I finally got it)

I had to do this twice because I accidentally run the first one I manage to properly set up

Also I began with a level 88 mismagius and now it is at level 98. I still havent found it.

Celeste is almost a great game.

Spoilers, obviously. Celeste is a great game - Frustrating, certainly, but a fun one nonetheless. Its mechanics are simple yet incredibly refined, with the dialogue being charming and cute.

(Despite the intense drug problems in Seattle, I love that magical land and the presumed wizard photographer known as Theo.)

Hell, even the plot and central idea is great - You’re climbing a literal mountain, which is a metaphor for overcoming your anxiety and depression: Though that’s not really needed, as you get hunted down and have to confront a very mean and vindictive part of you that LITERALLY MANIFESTS ITSELF. (Although you eventually reconcile with her and work together to reach the summit.)

So, why do I say it’s almost a great game? Well, just hear me out here: Madeline is trans. And I’m not saying that’s a bad thing! In fact, I’m overjoyed to have another trans woman in media that gender dysphoric adults and children can look up to. But you’re probably a bit taken aback to learn that Madeline is trans, right? Because it’s never explicitly stated ANYWHERE in the game. Sure, there’s a trans flag and pictures of a slightly more masculine Madeline in the Farewell DLC, but it’s only confirmed by Madeline Thorson, one of the main developers behind Celeste, who had to publicly announce it.

The reason behind it is because the game version of Madeline is a reflection of the real Madeline Thorson, and Ms. Thorson only found out she was a trans woman near the end of developing the Farewell DLC. Now, this doesn’t prohibit an update to the dialogue or a minor level change to make it clear to the player that Madeline is trans. However, such an update hasn’t been made. The reason? Ms. Thorson feels that the game version of Madeline shouldn’t have to “publicly come out,” as that could serve as a misleading sign to other transgender people that they have to be publicly trans.

However, it seems that Ms. Thorson has forgotten that Madeline is the protagonist, a person whose most inner thoughts are accessible by us. The fact that Madeline is trans can be conveyed to the player through clues - Or you could just be direct and have a piece of dialogue from Madeline to her mother or to Theo about her transitioning, as it’s still private - She isn’t in a public convention center being forced to scream it for everyone to hear.

But why do I want it to be obvious to the player that Madeline is trans? Well, it’s just as I said before - Trans and questioning people can look up to Madeline, hoping to develop and grow positive traits that she has, and eliminate negative traits that she doesn’t. For instance, trans and questioning people could be inspired by Madeline’s persistence and humbleness, while also attempting to eliminate self-deprecation.

Madeline is one of, if not the best, icons for transwomen in the entire transgender community - I mean, she’s small and cute! Now that’s some transition goals. But the fact that you only find that out on Ms. Thorson’s website is kind of a bummer, as Madeline is so cool and lovable! In fact, if I do transition one day, I’ve seriously considered using her name. (It’s got a nice ring to it.)
