Magnificently Cursed... the blog post ✨
🕰🍂🕯🌿📔🧣🌙
My writing log says it’s been exactly a year since I started writing Magnificently Cursed, my Dark Academia Inuokko Magic School AU! I find summer to be insufferable (my apologies to the sun) so I took an escape hatch to an early fall last year and immediately fell down this massive rabbit hole. Not only did I write the whole fic and make overly-intricate graphics for each chapter… I also made a ton of other content that I simply didn’t have enough time to post! (Fall is but one season… unless you’re me, and it’s two, because fuck summer) So as a little anniversary gift to me, I’m going back through the archives and finally putting everything in one place.
Let’s start with the character mood boards, shall we?
Toge Inumaki:
Tumblr media
I wanted Toge to have an earthy/natural, vintage-y feel, while Yuuta was all sleek and new. I’m still completely obsessed with this library-lizard aesthetic for Toge.
I low-key wound up buying a brown sweater after searching online for literal hours just like the one in the upper left so we could twin. That duffle coat still has my whole heart. Lavender mug inspired by Neara 🥺
Yuuta Okkotsu:
Tumblr media
The lil ghostie patch 😭 I still think Yuuta would look hot as hell in all these clothes- especially the speckle-y fisherman sweater. Coat game is strong here as well.
... so is it obvious that I spend too much time on Canva yet? 😅
The Timeline:
Tumblr media
My outline wasn’t outlining and I resorted to making an in-world calendar to make sure the dates were realistic. Each chapter is a different color, and the lines represent what days the chapters covered in-world. The corresponding stars represented each chapter’s posting dates… except the real life dates didn’t line up with the fictional dates (rude), so those thursdays were actually saturdays? I think? I'm actually not 100% sure what past me was up to here, to be totally honest 😅
(also, politely ignore that bit that says “epilogue - december” 💀i’ll get to it when i get to it. I don’t really like the idea of it being *over* so maybe i'll just gatekeep that bit forever)
Tumblr media
⬆️ Example of aforementioned “outlining,” which, yes, is unfortunately littered with as many potential tweets as actual organization 💀
Not pictured: the outline for the first three chapters… when i thought this fic… would only *be* three chapters. 🪦
Writing Log:
Tumblr media
I wrote all 92k between July 13th and September 13th (including 60k in August, nanowrimo style)!
Honestly would love to know what her regimen was because i immediately went back to being slow and undisciplined. I don’t foresee this coming august looking anything like this, lol.
Also, sidenote, hilarious that I took a break to work on it would make a whole in the middle of this? Because I literally just finished that piece this week and posted it today 😅
The Playlist:
Tumblr media
Spotify proving that July 13th commitment! If you start a wip without procrastinating and making a playlist for two hours first... did you really start a new wip?
The playlist was three and a half hours and i would listen to it nearly every day, sometimes multiple times in a day 💀. Listen during a rainstorm for peak vibes.
(other favs not pictured: The Butterflly Effect’s cover of “Lay All Your Love on Me,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Decode,” Liz Longley’s “Rescue My Heart,” and "Nothing's Gonna Happen" by The Staves)
Bonus:
Tumblr media
(fall baking... toge's fav pumpkin muffins of course)
Tumblr media
(my toge sweater knockoff)
Tumblr media
(editing buddy... clearly working very hard)
Tumblr media
(cider donut cider... for the ✨vibes✨)
Tumblr media
(obsessively drinking massive pots of harney and son’s victorian london fog tea as i tried to interpret my own bullshit)
Tumblr media
(me celebrating actual halloween like i didn't start in july)
.... ANYWAY (if you made it this far 😅) many thanks to anyone who read/kudos/commented/supported this fic, because (if you can't tell already) i had so much fun writing it.
Currently, working on another longfic rn that's also promising to destroy my life... but you never forget your first 😘

Hi Impromptu! If you're still up for writing Prince, how about preferred tea flavor headcanons? Whichever characters you're comfortable with 💗
Hi @scorchieart
Ok... lets go for this. I do drink a lot of tea, so let's see if I can do some tea pairings... either for the Prince, for to enjoy while route reading. Note, I've only read five routes, so there's a bit of guesswork here...
Chevalier - Ok, let's be real. The man doesn't need a cup of tea in the morning, he needs a caffeine bolus. But given that few are brave enough to stick an IV in him every morning, his tea is a high octane, extra caffeinated blend. And while a plain black tea, such as Bigelow American Breakfast with extra caff will do him fine, you might catch him in the library some afternoons with something slightly spicier. Route Pairing: Elevate's Orange Cinnamon Black Tea.
Jin - For a man with a sweet tooth, any time of day is a time for a dessert tea. Tazo Tea's Butterscotch Blondie (to be enjoyed with a Blonde, of course), or Celestial Seasonings, Gingerbread tea (to be enjoyed with a Ginger), or Harney & Sons Chocolate Mint (to be enjoyed with a brunette)... well, you get the idea. Route Pairing: Adagio Tea's Chocolate Truffle Tea
Luke - You know how some people drink tea with honey? Reverse that for Luke. One big ol' mug of honey, with just a dash of tea to loosen it at the sides of the cup. Route Pairing: Harney & Sons Pure Wild Honeybush
Rio - What tea do you like? He'll get it for you, even if he has to cross two deserts and a mountain range to procure it for you. Route pairing: Yaupon Brothers Spiced Peach
Yves - Earl Grey, steeped at 92 degrees centigrade, for exactly four minutes and twelve seconds, with a teaspoon of vanilla bean syrup, one half a cup of frothed cream spread carefully across the top (also called a "London Fog"). Route pairing - Yuzu Cream Earl Grey
Sariel - Do not give this man caffiene. Chamomile. Valerian. Just... get some sleep, dude! Route pairing: Oteas Sereni-Tea

O Great Lise, Master of Tea, I seek your wisdom. I'm a coffee person big time but for the sake of my dumb sensitive stomach I'm trying to switch out SOME of the coffee for tea. Please recommend me some caffeinated teas. I'm currently drinking a mug of Stash chai so as you can see, the situation is grave indeed.
master of tea! that's a new one. I'm into it though
so some caffeinated teas...I'm going to start with ones that are fairly easy to find at a grocery store and also not loose leaf only because I'm not sure how dedicated you're feeling to the bit (though if you are, my personal favorites are Victorian London Fog from Harney & Sons and Creme de la Earl Grey from Tea Chai Te, at least at the moment).
but as far as caffeinated teas I enjoy that you can find pretty easily, in my experience:
Good Earth Sweet & Spicy. This one I've had a weirdly difficult time finding in NYC but I think that might be an NYC problem? At any rate I should probably order more online. It's a nice sweet and spicy blend (as the name implies) that tastes good even when you accidentally steep it longer than you meant to.
Hot Cinnamon Spice from Harney & Sons. I introduced this one to a Swedish friend and got her hooked on it. Another one that's good even if you steep it on the too-long side. Also on the sweeter side as far as teas go, if that is a selling point or a detracting point.
Twining's Lavender Earl Grey. You might have gathered that I really like Earl Grey. It is true, and this is one of the variants that I enjoy (though not as much as the ones I mentioned above). It can be a little more elusive than just plain Earl Grey from Twining's, which is also decent, though if I'm going for an Earl Grey on its own I think I tend to prefer Harney & Sons', actually.
Twining's Chai (Vanilla or Spiced Apple). Their normal chai is fine but not particularly interesting, in my opinion; I like these ones for a little bit of extra spice (ha, ha).
I don't know how you feel about fruity teas - I don't usually like them but speaking of Stash I have a weird soft spot for Stash's Peach Black. It's possible it's just because it was one of the first teas I started drinking with any regularity, but.
if you feel like getting fancy I have other loose leaf tea recommendations (Winter Warmer Chai from White Heron is another one I quite like), but there's at least a few places to start!

Yessss I would love to see your tea opinions! Also have you tried silver needle? It’s a white tea that kind of tastes like cucumber water
i havent tried that! any good brands you recommend?
and my grand list of tea brands i love...
brands of color:
al-kbous tea: the fine grain black tea....j'adore. i use it primarily to make chai or when i make tea jams
tazah tea: the damask rose....swoon
alwazah tea (swan brand hehe): i love ceylon tea what can i say. black teas are my fave but i do also enjoy their green tea
wagh bakri: i used to obsessively drink their loose leaf masala chai blend 🙇🏽‍♀️
three rivers: when i lived near it my local halal market had their kashmiri pink tea and my GOD.....ive been thinking about it for years but i think they stopped having them in stock a couple years ago :(((
the bagged loose leaf tea i get from this random man at a local farmers market: ill have to ask his official brand name again but the assam tea he sells......good god its sooooooo smooth and i love it
el sol de méxico (i think thats the brand...?): just a big ole bag of dried hibiscus for agua de jamaica, also good for making hibiscus jam hehe
nitto kocha: ROYAL MILK TEA....because im basic and its good :(
3:15pm: the rose fruity milk tea is my favorite but i do adore their original milk tea and cafe au lait
white people brands:
downton abbey branded republic of tea: this raspberry rose tea....im sorry but its so good 😔 forgive me my trespasses
nina's paris: their marie antoinette tea which is black tea with apple and rose (see a pattern?)...i love it i do
harney and sons: i have their ~paris~ black tea rn which is alright, but i really Love their victorian london fog...need her....
my correct tea opinions are: black tea is superior, rose in tea is always good if its balanced correctly, fruit is best paired with something floral or earthy, and masala chai is always going to taste better when you make it for someone else

specific ask game 7, 13 and 18 !!!!
7. what animal do you look forward to seeing when you visit an aquarium?
Dolphins, Otters, Turtles or any fish that has pretty colors. I'm all for the pretty things. Oh jelly fish are kind of hypnotic to watch too.
youtube
13. first thing you’re doing in the purge?
Lord, I'd probably board my house up and hunker down and try to enjoy the time not going to work and all. How boring am I.
18. your boba/tea order?
You might regret asking me this one 😂
1.) I love bubble tea. My usual go-to is mango or passionfruit or pineapple bubble tea. Black tea. Over ice and half boba/ half coconut jelly( nata de coco) . If I'm crazy and am in the mood for the dairy, I'll take a coconut milk tea over ice again with the half boba/ half coconut jelly. Taro milk tea with boba is pretty good too.
2.) I'm also a BIG tea drinker in general. I usually take it without milk and a teaspoon of honey. My usual go to first is Twinings Earl Grey . After that, these are some of my favorite blends, in no particular order:
Twinings Prince of Wales
Twinings Lady Grey
Twinings Darjeeling
Twinings English Breakfast
Twinings Blackcurrant Breeze
Harney and Sons Victorian London Fog
Harney and Sons Tower of London
Harney and Sons Lunar New Year
Harney and Sons Paris
Harney and Sons Royal Palace Tea
Stash Tea Holiday Chai
Stash Mango Passionfruit (herbal)
Stash Coconut Mango
Stash Christmas in Paris
Stash Christmas Morning
Bigelow Toasted Coconut Almond Bark
Celestial Seasonings Chamomile Lavender (herbal)
Nina's Marie Antoinette Tea ( Black tea with apple and rose from the gardens of Versailles)
Nina's The De Anges (Black tea with strawberry and vanilla)
Jasmin Pearl Tea (any brand)
I have tons more here herbal, black., green, white teas . . but if I list them all this post would be ridiculously long. 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the ask, @kurtsascot !

Earl grey, matcha, herbal, coffee!
Aw, friend! Thank you :)
Earl Grey: How do you take your tea?
Usually Earl Grey black. When I'm not lazy, + one sugar. And if I'm wanting to actually relax, + splash of milk. I also like Hot Cinnamon Sunset from Harney & Sons. Starbucks = London Fog.
Matcha: Favorite Book?
English teacher, so buckle up LOL. Top three: Ishiguro's The Remains of the Day, Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. Nonfiction: Gottlieb's Maybe You Should Talk to Someone … and not to be this way but honorable mention to Miller's The Song of Achilles … it is so beautiful.
Herbal: a selfie?! cheeky. I don't take a whole lot of selfies but here: one in the sunlight and one from just now, on my terrible computer camera sitting at my kitchen table waiting for my shepherd's pie to be done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
coffee: black or with a splash of Coffeemate French vanilla coffee creamer. Am I boring? Yeah, babes. Yeah, I am.
Tea Asks :)

~Cancer Inspired Tea Flavors~
Requested by: @hyeri-yah.
---
White: Numi White Rose.
Velvety and floral, this tea is a blend of subtle, fragrant white tea and spring-picked tender rosebuds. A delicate, uplifting drink. White tea it is the least oxidized and processed of all teas. This one is lightly caffeinated and ethically sourced.
Black: Harney & Sons Victorian London Fog.
London Fog originated during the Victorian era. Traditionally, it is an Earl Grey served with steamed milk. In a cup, this tea’s aroma has hints of vanilla and lavender blended with bergamot. It is a full-bodied orthodox black tea mixed with dried lavender and it’s just waiting for a splash of cream.
Herbal: Tazo Calm Chamomile.
This is how Tazo’s website described this tea: “We’ve always wondered what it's like to float away on a sun-drenched bed of clouds, so we crafted a tea that we think creates the same feeling.”
If that's too much like naming a flavor after a color to entice you, this tea is officially a blend of chamomile, hibiscus, lemon balm and peppermint. Uplifting and soothing.

Dual fika today (one in the afternoon and an evening fake fika). I wanted to try Harney & Sons’ London Fog (the London Fog Earl Grey with steamed milk), but I don’t like milk in tea. I may have enjoyed this. I think.

CQL Characters as Teas I’ve Had
This started because @needtherapy knows I'm a tea nerd and wanted an idea for what tea would lwj tell wwx he is... So pick a tea that suits the characters well she basically told me... and this spiral out of control... oops. sorry not that sorry. this is another tea post no one asked for... except maybe needtherapy. but she didn’t ask for THIS MUCH of it.
Wwx: onyx -- this is a tea i got at a tea festival last year from a guy based in chicago. it’s made from a white tea cultivar but made into a black tea. it’s really yummy and pretty deep. unorthodox for sure but still rooted in tradition and well crafted.
Lwj: aged fuding silver needle white tea -- if wwx is a onyx, then lwj is the traditional tea made of the same stuff. delicious. traditional. respected.
Jc: a young sheng puer -- needs to mature a little. Astringent. Need time make the edges soften some. the astringency sometimes make me think of zidian.
Jyl: lotus scented fuzhan - mellow, smooth, round bodied and fragrant. Same feel as jyl's steadiness and kindness (fuzhuan is a heicha, same category as puer) it’s a scented tea so sometimes tea snobs will look down at it. but it’s REALLY good so their loss (i’m looking at you ep 3-27 jzxuan)
Lxc:  aged white tea cake, over 25 years old. it’s respected and almost legendary but not necessarily pretentious.
Nhs: ducksh*t oolong - amazing tea. Ridiculous name. The farmer probably named the motherbush to deter buyers. kinda like nhs’ YiWenSanBuZhi title.
Nmj: muzha tieguanyin - strong flavor, took a little time to grow on me, classic though (not to be confused with anxi tgy, btw. very different teas. same cultivar though, iirc)
Jgy: hunan bloolong - this is a tea made from a cultivar usually used to make oolongs that was processed as a black. A named coined by harney and sons in nyc. While the tea might be decent and the concept good, it's inevitably tainted by the inexplicably awful naming. Just like jgy is tainted by his evil deeds even if he had lots of potential.
Jzxuan: jinjunmei - modern and well received. Quality but also very pricey. sometimes i wonder if it’s worth the price...
Lqy/mianmian: farmer’s choice baozhong -- i get mine from a shop in seattle. it’s a light oolong that’s floral and refreshing. i love this tea. i love mianmian. it’s not a particularly rare and definitely not pretentious. but it’s good and definitely one i love to drink.
Wq: there is a tea that i get from a vendor in chicago called “Black Dancong Champion” that’s made from a Mi Lan Xiang (Honey Orchid Fragrance) cultivar and allowed to fully oxidize. it’s a delicious tea that’s won best tea award at a competition before. wq is the best doctor of qi shan and definitely not 100% traditional so i think this suits her. also the cultivar has such a pretty name which also suits her.
Wn: so... this is a weird tea story but i have a tea that my dad’s high school buddy picked in yunnan. the best leaves were made into something i can’t afford. he had some cast-off leaves that he asked the tea master to process anyway. and then when we were in chongqing in 2017, he gave me about 300g of it. it’s PHENOMENAL tea but he kinda waved his hand at it saying it was second rate stuff anyway. that’s kinda what wen ning is. he’s amazing as a character -- loyal, interesting, sweet. but the cultivation world as a whole doesn’t appreciate him. it doesn’t make him any less good though!
Lsz: modern chinese lapsang suchong. The name suggests strong smoke (aka the Wens) but it's actually really soft and fruity.
Ljy: high grade jasmine green made from tender buds from an early spring harvest with jasmine flowers added and sifted out at least seven times. i love this tea even if it’s “flavored”. i like its personality!
Jl:  pre-qingming dragonwell - soft green tea. maybe described as nutty in flavor? you don’t get too many brews from it. first flush (hence the early spring picking) and tender. i think in a lot of ways this tea shows how young the leaves are -- just like jl shows how young he is in many parts of the story.
Oyzz: lychee tea blended with rose buds and honeysuckle buds. He's simple but delightful. (idk if this is a blend people can buy? i take cheap grocery store lychee and blend in rose buds and honeysuckle buds i buy when i’m in china... i really like a good rose and lychee combo but it’s a bit too sharp when blended and the honeysuckle does a good job of mellowing it out... this is also the ONLY tea i blend myself.. it’s just a thing for me. idk why)
Sl: aged glutinous rice scented puer - i like the texture of the tea and i also like how it ages well.
Xxc: jinxuan/milk oolong -- a cultivar that makes a really nice round tea. it’s slightly creamy in mouth feel and scent. there are milk oolongs have have milk flavor added. THIS IS NOT THAT. This is WAY BETTER.
Xy: unaged ripe puer - some people like it i guess? idk why. seems like a bad idea.
A-qing: london fog (Earl grey latte with vanilla and sugar) -- soft and yummy but don't screw it up or it may not be good. also not actually pretentious tea.
And for the antagonists:
Wzl: twinnings or bigelow earl grey. passible. doing the minimal work to get purchased. i don’t hate it but i also don’t love it. acceptable go to in hotels and restaurants when i forgot to/can’t bring my own tea.
SuSh*t: lipton. He's not good tea. Passable cold brewed I guess.
Jxzun: instant tea mix. >.> probably flavored. i’m not sure if i would even consider it tea... (i’m thinking a beverage like crystal light peach tea. i mean, i used to drink it and i’m not gonna judge people for drinking it but it’s not really a thing i would choose to consume anymore... but i’m a tea snob now...)

London fog tea sounds good it theory—essentially earl grey with vanilla also—but the Harney & Sons London fog I just tried was kind of meh. Next time I will steep it a bit less and maybe add less sugar, but I didn’t get any bergamot. The vanilla overwhelmed the other scents, and also it wasn’t a vanilla scent like “I just added vanilla extract to my cookie dough” and more like…a vanilla candle. Hmm.

Hey robin! I'm new to this tea thing but I want to try to find at least one or two blends that I like. Do you have any recommendations for tea shops(preferably online) for a tea beginner? Thanks a bunch for the help and have a wonderful day!
Welcome to tea! It sometimes takes a while to learn proper steeping and finding what you like but it's a relaxing and delicious past time. I also do most of my shopping online so I'll recc a few.
Harney and Sons: This was one of my first introductions to quality tea and it's been a favorite of mine. You can get both bagged and loose teas (a lot of teas you can get a sample for $2 which contains a couple cups worth and is a nice tester). Popular ones: Paris, London Fog, Peppermint, Hot Cinnamon Spice
TeaSource: I found this little teashop when feeling low after flying out for my Gram's funeral and I was an instant convert. All my tea used to come from here. This is a small business so I love supporting them and they have amazing teas! Popular ones: Minnesota Nice, Moon Over Madagascar, Tea Source Gold, Hazelnut Orange, Red Berries
Simply Loose Leaf: If you're looking for a tea of the month club, I cannot recc this one enough. It's not only one of the cheaper ones out there but the tea is Out Of This World. I've gotten a couple of my favs in bigger containers (I'm obsESSED with the Raspberry Lavender and Blue Lady Grey). You can get a sample pack with one green, black, herbal and surprise which contains about 7 cups each flavor!
Also look around at local markets and stores, a lot will have locally sourced teas which are cheap and delicious! There's plenty of places to find out about making tea but the main things is paying attention to Time, Temperature and Amount which most teas will come with. Happy steeping!

at this point maybe I should consider subscribing to a recurring order of harney & sons victorian london fog considering I’ve gone through, I think, two 8 ounce tins and most of a pound bag of it over the course of this plague so far. and it’s summer.
