A very loose prompt: a while ago I found a bunch of Stone tower temple theme covers (especially NostalgiCore's and TheNamelessBard's covers), and that got me in a Revalink mood: first, a pretty straightforward idea of Revali and BotW!Link somehow walking around Stone Tower ruins and wondering just what those ruins were in its prime, and second: the tunes living on, and Revali or Link dancing to one of them while the other is watching (also, the fact that one of the catchiest fan lyrics go "danger lurks around every bend, you cannot succed alone; sing the song, let go of your grief, solider comes whose heart is stone" could be pretty easily made to fit revalink: both Link and Revali have reasons to craft an image of themselves as an unsheakeble warrior (Link literally stopped talking out of fear of saying the wrong thing, and Revali tries to look like the most arrogant Rito to ever walk Hyrule, despite evidence to the countrary) as someone who may as well have a heart of stone, and both of them have things they grieve about, so them going together through Ikana valley - a place that requires putting ghosts to rest - would sound a lot like fulfilling the lyrics. Bonus points if they actually need to solve the Stone Tower puzzles together to go back to BotW and key Ikana characters are still around to help them(not really ship relevant, I just thought it would be lowkey funny when BotW boys would bump into Ikana undead and learn that one of the Hero incarnations had shown up here already).

iirc, termina is a completely different world from hyrule and oot!link somehow gets in after an altercation with skull kid who has the majora's mask. spoilers for people who haven't played mm? but i just read that termina was a creation of skull kid's own mind so it's not even a real world 😳 so i'm interested to know how link and revali got into the stone tower temple in the first place, or if another temple of the same name perhaps exists in hyrule analogous to the one in termina. like would they run into skull kid somewhere in botw's hyrule? or find the mask on their own (since majora's mask is available in botw as dlc) and somehow termina still exists within the mask? link why the fuck would you put on the mask what da hell?

i would assume that termina's existence relies on skull kid's active envisionment of it and link's constant resetting with the ocarina that causes the perpetual three-day time loop and prevents the moon from falling. and in addition, that termina was created with the purpose of being skull kid's plaything to . hurt and kill people out of his frustration? like i said, i never got to finish mm so i'm kind of iffy on the details of the story sawrryy ✋😭 but it's like. does termina go against the conventions of time? if we assume that termina is a creation of skull kid's imagination, will it be able to continue existing as its own world? will it always be in a three-day loop or after oot!link saves termina, does it continue in a regular continuous flow of time, therefore resulting in the ruins of the stone tower temple? would places like clock town still be thriving thousands of years later? like what if link and revali met skull kid somehow in botw, pissed him off, got dragged in termina, and had to go exactly through what oot!link did in order to escape LMAOOO

i could imagine revali and link bickering about how the other was the reason why they got into this mess, and then they step into clock town from within the clock tower and are completely shocked because they were just in the lost woods and now they're in the middle of a town??? you mentioned wanting to see them meet key mm characters specifically from ikana, but since i don't know any of them (i'm sorry again 😭), imagine link and revali meeting anju at the stockpot inn just trying to get a room to sleep and anju being like. huh. your name is link, too? and having to explain to revali n link that a child in green with the same name and disposition as botw!link had come to termina years ago and saved their town from the moon falling and destroying it. and revali and link are just like. link and revali joining in during the carnival of time, and maybe the carnival of time now has a segment where they retell the story of the child in green who saved termina through song and dance, and link gets roped into dancing with the townspeople during the stone temple tower piece. he doesn't know the dance at all, but one thing about link is that he picks up very quickly on everything 😙 so revali is off to the sides of the town center with everyone else crossing his arms, watching link as he begins to catch onto the choreography and keeping in step with the rest of the dancers. he spins and twirls and claps with the other dancers, a smile growing on his face as the song continues, and revali is completely enamored. link had always been beautiful to him, but he was constantly surprisingly revali. this might become one of revali's favorite aspects of link's beauty now.

once link approaches, his jog falters into a walk. "have fun?" revali says, rather softly.

link nods, smiling. "i didn't think i'd learn it that fast, but it was a really fun dance."

revali hums. "well, it looked like you had fun doing it. ready to turn in for the night?"

"mhm," link replies, and revali can hear the drowsiness beginning to seep into his ever-slumberous songbird's voice. the little hylian then moves forward to cling to revali's wing, and the rito glances at the stranger who's been watching their exchange the entire time.

"enjoy the rest of your evening," revali says primly to him. he tosses his braids over his shoulder as they turn away to walk back to the inn. while he didn't "own" link, it was true, at least, that his heart was for link to own.

i don't want this to get too long and end up misremembering details or something, but imagine some of the lyrics of the stone tower temple song resonating too deeply with revali and link after they think about it later, so they ask anju about it and she tells them about the actual stone tower temple in ikana valley that the song talks about and maybe that's how they end up traveling to the temple, exploring the ruins, somehow getting booby-trapped inside, and having to complete old-school dungeon puzzles to get out 😄

POV: Volo character analysis but you’re only 6 hours into PLA

making good progress in pokemon legends!!! just defeated kleavor (what the HELL is kleavor btw, i’ve never seen that thing before in my life) and i’m having SO much more fun with it than before! rly glad about that cuz it was just sitting & collecting metaphorical dust lmao. i still have my qualms, but i definitely see the appeal now!

i’d like to talk a little about Volo. well, as much as i can from my current point in the game.

full disclaimer, i haven’t even gotten close to beating PLA and i won’t for probably another 40 hours, but i do know what ultimately happens with Volo. my thoughts here could honestly be totally incomprehensible or may change as i continue playing. but i just think he’s neat :)

so i don’t think Volo is like…... evil? don’t get me wrong, he absolutely fucked up and there are no excuses for what he does. but i see a lot of people in the fandom make him out to be this irredeemable horrible awful murderous twisted cycle path and i just. don’t agree with that.

i think people prioritize vilifying him solely to further angst with a certain pair of twins rather than focusing on the nuance that’s embedded into his character. i don’t want to skrunkli-fy him either, but i think it’s important to recognize that he’s kinda just Some Guy. he’s not a cult-leader, he’s not a mob boss, he doesn’t have people who follow or look up to him much (as far as i know); he’s just some dude who works in retail, and he has realistic, human flaws that result in self-destructive behavior that ultimately harms everyone around him. he strikes me as someone with a boatload of (likely religious) trauma and a desperate, insatiable desire to comprehend some kind of higher being. i hope to expand on this particular train of thought later

this brings me to one of my favorite narratives in pokemon. he has Three!!! pokemon that evolve through high friendship. compared to ghetsis, with a hydreigon that was forced to evolve before level 64, holds a life orb, and absolutely obliterates with frustration with the highest amount of damage possible—it absolutely hates ghetsis. but togekiss, lucario, and roserade can only be obtained when they adore their trainers, this cannot be forced.

Volo also has a genuine interest in archeology and history and he wants to share it with people! this guy can infodump like a champ, i really respect that !

so my opinion can certainly change, but these are a few reasons why i don’t think he’s irredeemable. i don’t like how complex characters are always reduced to all or nothing values in fandom spaces. there’s so much more to these characters than 100% evil or 100% good.

this is not helped by the fact that PLA just. doesn’t seem finished? which is completely understandable considering the amount of crunch these artists and writers had to deal with. but it’s still unfinished. most characters don’t have closure or even any development at all. i’m hoping on dlc at some point but. augh

soooo yea das it lol. i hope to write some actual characters studies and analyses for this guy the more i play!! this was just to get my thoughts down, i’ll probably revisit and add to it down the line!

1, 2: the weather was So nice. lil cold in the morning but no more than a few drops of rain! the castle was super pretty too

3: i attended a lecture about video game music, this musicologist spent an hour talking about the legend of zelda theme and its origins. he also mentioned tommy talarico, i snorted at the mention of that name and afterwards no less than three people came up to him to recommend the hbomberguy video. also he kept being like 'haha i had more slides but we're out of time so i wont bother you all with that...' so i told him to start a youtube channel because people ARE interested in that. i couldve easily listened to this for another hour

4: anime cover band called trebulence! i got to dance hare hare yukai, fulfilling a childhood dream. truly an experience

5, 6: more bands! i rly ended up liking the stage area... there was a lot of room to twirl and dance 🥰

7,8: lunch break by the water! cant go wrong with bread on stick

9: there was a jester... very talented!

all in all i had a very fun day!! maybe again next year!

MUSE: zorya constantine FANDOM: graphics about sleuths RELATIVE: miss fishnets herself and some cunt from beatlesville DOES THIS MUSE BREAK CANON: surprisingly, no. there have been universes in the past that show her parents having reproduced, and in fact a complementary muse i play is her brother from one such universe. i tend to default to her being a visitor from another universe rather than any particular interpretation's child.

MUSE: 'valas' d*vir FANDOM: the gate of a norse god RELATIVE: 1-2's pc (father), v*conia d*vir (mother) DOES THIS MUSE BREAK CANON: prior to 3? no. v*conia's romanced ending -- the one i pursued as a baby kadi -- has her bearing the pc's child. after the character assassination of her in 3? yep. wretcheds of the c*ast completely scrapped her canon characterization to make a one dimensional zealot of her, so everything came crashing down for valas' lore. my city now, though.

MUSE: kayden c*nnors FANDOM: marvelous graphics RELATIVE: the l*zard / dr. c*rt c*nnors (father) DOES THIS MUSE BREAK CANON: yeah. she doesn't even get a zorya pass of other lore existing that at best doesn't rule her out -- the c*nnors only ever have a single son in the whole of comics history. writing kayden in as an older daughter in the family dynamic upends decades of comics lore, and i revel in getting meta w it.

MUSE: mira snow FANDOM: a ditty of icyhot RELATIVE: br*ndon st*rk (father), ash*ra d*yne (mother), assorted canon relatives DOES THIS MUSE BREAK CANON: ssssort of? it's implied her mother had a daughter prior to her death, and that it was a st*rk brother that was responsible. mira is me pursuing that plot thread and chasing 'what ifs' about her role in the already unconventional dynamics of w*nterfell. the big divergence is the kid is allegedly dead.

MUSE: danae sp*ncer FANDOM: the malicious dwellers of the zombie apocalypse RELATIVE: the properly dishonorable earl sp*ncer (father) DOES THIS MUSE BREAK CANON: yes, canon makes it clear the earl is the last of his family -- but. i can argue the phrasing 'end of his illustrious line' could mean the family name dies with him, as danae would be anticipated to take her husband's name, or as i write it, that danae was disowned, disinherited, and no more a true sp*ncer.

MUSE: julia mayfair FANDOM: cawabooty RELATIVE: v*kt*r r*zn*v (great-grandfather) DOES THIS MUSE BREAK CANON: in all honesty? no. we know nothing of the man's backstory or connections prior to the war, save that he had a father who was killed by germans. this is a case where you can say anything about her great-grandfather and there's nothing contradicting or supporting you. there's no canon to break.

Twilight: loves playing survival mode. He has a single player world with many many hours in it. It might not be pretty, but gosh does he love it. Nothing is automated though, my guy keeps chopping trees the old fashion way.

Wind: He likes the game a lot, but tends to not play it that much. It gets so... quiet... in single player... Alone with his thoughts... 😦

But he prefers hopping on servers with friends and doing lil pranks!

Wild: He doesnt rly care for the building side of things, and usually just keeps wandering from place to place in the game. He got bored of vanilla pretty fast, and now plays different modpacks designed with waypoints and new biomes!

He gets confused when playing with the others, realising some very useful things dont exist in vanilla...

Sky: He's pretty new to the game, was introduced to it by Zelda. He, her and Groose have a little server together. He often gets lost, and his builds look rather wonky, but he is having fun! He's been getting into pistons lately.

Time: He doesn't enjoy the quiet of single player either, often playing on servers just to read the chat, but to never partake in the convos. He likes building with logs and leaves, and is actually really good at pvp!

Minish: He watches a lot of tutorials and other guides. His bases are always full of automated farms and such. It all looks a little terrible but its certainly impressive!

...He doesn't really use those resources for anything though.

Ravio: He is a great builder but HATES getting resources. He'll struggle to build one tiny but pretty house and then beg and trade for anything he can get his hands on.

Legend: Says he doesnt really play or care for the game, but clearly has a lot or hours spent on it and is great at balancing many aspects of it. He builds rather cute houses.

Bonus stuff:

Mini likes burrowing in 1x1 tunnels all around the place. If you're anywhere near his base and dig down, you're likely to find some. Nobody is sure why he does this.

Ravio asked if he could use Mini's many resources, and was surprised to learn he allowed it. However in exchange he had to build Mini a big castle. He is still building it because every iteration is too small according to Mini.

okay considering my brain has actually REALLY latched onto this whole creepypasta au (to the point where i'm working on a game for it and genuinely i'm very excited to work on it and am actively kicking myself in the ass to finish it), i feel it apt to actually making a post to more thoroughly explain what this au is n what it's about.

what the hell is a scketti?

scketti is my take on the slender mansion craze, basically. making myself old here (/j), but i remember being SUPER into the mansion fandom back when i was in middle school, n with the recent resurgence of creepypasta content i started thinking...

the ben drowned arg has turned into a massive special interest of mine and i started wondering what all of the mansion lore could've looked liked with more elements from each respective story, so i got to work.

basically, scketti is the result of all this brainstorming. i'm taking canonical elements from both the literal lore of the original creepypasta stories and the fandom canon from all those years ago and putting them into a blender while also adding in my own ideas and thoughts. the name "scketti" comes from how i used to say "spaghetti" as a child, as a fun fact.

if there were gonna be a summary or cover blurb, it'd be something like this:

"Ben, a spirit residing in a haunted copy of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, awakens one evening in a strange forest with even stranger beings in it. How did he get here? Who are these people? And... why is the world suddenly threatening to spiral into chaos? Ben has accidentally found himself in a whirlpool of a battle between the physical and the metaphysical, and he may be the key to the eye of the storm."

or smthn like that! i HIGHLY recommend that anyone wanting to get into scketti be at least familiar w the common creepypasta lore n the lore of the arg itself (which spans more than the first haunted cartridge arc), but it's not necessary to. i plan to explain all the necessary nitty gritty details in the game itself, and i don't wanna accidentally spoil anything! in my humble opinion i'm really enjoying working with this au and shaping it into smthn its own :3

yugi: strategy games Of Course. he probs loves relaxing games like poly bridge or portal. i also DEFINITELY think he loves mobile games like he's a casual bc he touches grass but i totally think this dude LOVES candy crush. bro has spent 50 dollars on merge mansion bc it kills time while commuting on the train to kaiba corp. obligatory he is super into card games like blackjack, 21, and poker because he gets to host weekly fake gambling nights with the gang.

joey: arcade & couch co-op games so think overcooked, gang beasts, street fighter, smash bros. he is Very bad at games but the type of bad where he sucks and then spends 100 hours grinding cuz he gets embarrassed at losing too much and then everyone hates playing against him bcuz hes too good now. i dont think he plays games rly when he's alone but i think that tristan does & therefore he practices/plays a lot. i think a lot of their hangouts is playing stuff together and occasionally inviting over duke and yugi :)
